Reviews of Spice & Tonic - Indian Cuisine & Bar

I came here for lunch on my birthday. Parking was a breeze and reasonably priced for downtown.
Right away, it felt cozy, warm, and aromatic when we walked in. Staff greeted us right away and were attentive and friendly throughout our whole experience. We ordered vegetarian samosas and two entrees from the lunch menu: Non-Veg Thali #2 & Non-Veg #2.
The samosas were excellent and the chutney was exquisite. We were so impressed that we ordered takeout at the end.
Both entree meals came with half order of naan, basmati rice, two curries, raita and gulab jamun, all so delicious and perfect for a dreary, cold afternoon. And the perfect amount for lunch.
Our server even brought out complimentary rice pudding.
I highly recommend this spot for any occasion!

While the service was on point and the place was clean with a great atmosphere, the food disappointment a native Indian pallet. I saw almost 5 star reviews and perhaps got my hopes a bit too high. The food tasted okay, but it wasn’t as flavourful as I was hoping. My hubby ordered rogan Josh but it looked completely different from what we would typically have. It tasted okay but it wasn’t rogan Josh and it was lots of garlic. I always like to get samosas for apps as they can easily distinguish good cooking… and these samosas filling was complete potato with barely any spices. Anyway I do think this is a great place for someone who is trying out Indian food for the first time, I think they will enjoy. I am not so sure of folks who are used to a lot more spices and flavours. I appreciated our server and his attentiveness.

The food here is great, and the service was even better. Despite it being pretty busy with a couple of large parties our server was attentive and our food came out quick. Everything was good, but I really liked the beef samosa with the chutney. Will definitely be coming back!

Outstanding Indian cuisine in the Minneapolis Mill District. Dine in or take out, and you will not be disappointed. Living in downtown, having an easily accessible, family owned Indian restaurant is so nice. If you are visiting from out of town and staying at the nearby Aloft, Depot, Curio , or other hotels, it is an easy walk downtown along Washington in the shadows of the U S Bank stadium and a stone’s throw to the Guthrie Theater.
Spice and Tonic is a family owned business; the father was one of the original owners of the bastions of Indian cuisine in the Twin Cities, Taste of India. The tradition lives on now in the Mill District! It is great!!
We started with papdum and the spicy snd sweet chutneys: very fresh and robust chutneys.
I had to try the Tandoori chicken as an appetizer: succulent, moist, flavorful chicken with fresh onions and lemon garnish.
The Chana Masala is incredible: a great blend of chana and a flavor filled masala.
The Lamb Vindaloo was tender, tasty, filled with potatoes which are fresh and carry the spice flavor of the vindaloo.
The plain naan was great to clean the bowls of any residual sauces.
A signature treat as you leave Spice and Tonic are the fennel seeds with small pieces of sugar coated licorice.
Finally, the staff is incredibly nice, helpful and polite. The overall dining experience is 10/10. Spice and Tonic should be on your list for outstanding Tandoori, Masala or Vindaloo: the Naan is scrumptious.
Highly recommend Spice and Tonic as likely one of the newest, top Indian restaurants in the Twin Cities.

This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever tried in Minneapolis! I looked at the menu and i was shocked about how cheap the price is, I honestly thought that since it's cheap then it's probably a bad restaurant or provides small portion. I ordered Dal (Lentil tempered with green chilies, coriander leaves, garlic and cumin). I have asked the chef if it's ok to him to add potatoes to my Dal, and he agreed! The food arrived, the portion was good and the taste of the food that it reminded me of my mom's cooking 😭 I will definitely come back again soon!!!

My friends and I had a wonderful lunch at Spice and Tonic. Imran, who waited on us, was an excellent host - he was kind, funny, and had great recommendations.
The food was fresh and flavorful, especially the masala chai which was perfection! I also really loved the kulfi which was creamy and delicious.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone interested in authentic food from the southEast Asian subcontinent.

This place is a great find. Went on a Saturday, and was relatively busy. Decore is simple but really effective. The staff are friendly and more than happy to help if you need some assistance with the menu. Them the good is fantastic, we had 3 dishes and they all had distinctive, different flavours. The rice was cooked to perfection and so was the naans. Highly recommend!

Spice and Tonic is fantastic. Being half Indian, I always love trying new Indian spots in town. I’ve taken out from Spice and Tonic several times, and today dined in with my mom. The staff were very warm, helpful, and friendly. The portions are generous and shareable. We ordered the vegetable samosas, peshwari naan, chicken shahi korma, matar paneer, chicken Makhani, baingan bharta, and the malai kofta. Everything was delicious. The chicken makhani, matar paneer, and Peshwari naan were exceptional. I highly recommend this little gem in the Mill District.

Excellent food, excellent service, excelent atmosphere! So much so my girlfriend and I came back the next night! We ordered some different dishes to try along with one we knew we liked. To say we were stuffed is an understatement! Best of all, you get all of the rice you could ask for! Excellent place for a night out!
