Reviews of Soberfish

The lunch special is a great buy as we ordered Vegetable Medley with chicken and wings, and Thai Holy Basil with Chicken and fresh spring rolls. Adding fresh herbs to the spring roll would make it more delicious. I loved the Thai Holy Basil as the vegetables were definitely fresh and cooked to perfection.
We came around 12:30 p.m. and the waitress and kitchen was slow. We waited 15 minutes or a little more. Make sure the bartender is helping if it picks up like it did before we left.
NinjaBaby Killer
Drunken wings, dynamite yellow tail sushi 🍣, holy basil fried rice with pork and beef. Ashai Japanese beer. Super delicious worth the trip & money every time. Complex flavors great made in house sushi.
Jeff Valentin
I have now been to Soberfish three times. It is almost like having your own omakase if you go during the slower times and sit at the sushi bar. King is an artist!! Please see the photos.
November Eclipse
This place is really dope and I love their main entrees. They didn't have a lot of none raw sushi, literally just two options I believe. But other then that they have amazing customer service and most of the food items are amazing. But can't say the same thing for the sushi just cause I don't eat raw sushi.

I have had some terrible experiences with sushi being delivered and so I had low expectations, but it was surprisingly good. The fish tasted clean and fresh. I was able to enjoy one of my favorites which was the Unagi (eel). I would definitely order from them again.
The only reason I did not give them a five star review is because I had the Tako Sensai and it tasted a bit off which was unfortunately disappointing as Tako is one of my favorite things to eat. Otherwise, everything else was great.

Good eats!
I like that the pandemic has not prevented sober Fish from still providing the happy hour menu many places have scrap their menu.
The sushi is still amazing!
My only gripe was with the Thai basil fried rice I asked for it with pineapple and tofu and I got that! That part was great.
It just didn’t taste the same as I remember from some time ago it’s like it was missing a certain seasoning so it fell flat.
All in all a great place to eat an amazing service to match! We didn’t need a reservation as it was not busy so that made it easy!
Pro: no reservation fast seating still same great quality of sushi. Wait staff is amazing!
Con: even though it was not busy inside Sober Fish it’s very busy in the area parking may be a hassle.
I would say maybe skip the fried rice and go with a curry or noddle dish instead.
Like my review if helpful
Thanks :)

Went pretty early for happy hour but still it took a long time for the food to arrive. The food was alright, but wasn’t quite worth all that wait
Zack Szyman
Went for happy hour and they had great food for a good price in a welcoming atmosphere.
Michael
We went for lunch service, and the sushi was delicious. The Satay Chicken (not pictured) was good, not great. The cocktails were tasty, but very weak. And the server was absent and not especially friendly. The rice & mango was tasty. Truly, the ingredients of the sushi and their preparation are what earn the most of the mediocre 3 stars.

I enjoyed my dinner at Soberfish. Came around 7 on a Saturday night. There was no wait to sit down, but there was a 40 minute wait on the sushi itself simply because so many people had ordered take out. The sushi is high quality with very fresh fish from the coast. Spoke to a chef and she mentioned their selection of sea food is never more than one day out of the ocean which is impressive considering we are in the Midwest! The only thing that could use improvement is the presentation. My friend and I ordered several rolls and they were all served on one big platter. Would have preferred separate dishes, but that is a very minor detail and didn't affect the quality or the taste of the sushi.
Will P
Good choice for Thai food in South Minneapolis. Service was kinda slow, but the dishes were well presented, aromatic, and delicious. The soft shelled crab and the salmon rolls were worth the wait.
Ywh Krgb
The service was fine. The appetizers were delicious. The main food was a bit on the salty side, like my friend said, it seems like someone might have forgotten to add seasoning beforehand and when they remember to do so, they just added it at the top of the food. It wasn't mixed well
Paj Laib
Been here twice and service is awesome. Food is always consistent, fresh, and hot. Atmosphere is mellow and pleasant, however, would prob suggest more music in the background. On our second visit, the previous bartender who served us 3 months ago even came back to say HI, and welcome back. This means, they notice and care for your presence back!
Jameson Johnson
Selection pretty good. Food was decent. They were able to accommodate gluten free. 3 stars do to cleanliness. The floors are pretty rough and you can see where the mop can't get into where the walls or booths meet the floor (it's grimy and dirty). The walls also had old grease and food splatters on them. The menus we're held in place with masking tape.
Gabrielle Noe'l
Soooo good! We haven't been this satisfied in a while. You gotta try the veggie egg rolls and the lychee sake!! And we were SHOCKED at the happy hour prices! Not to mention amazing service!
Khoua Eh Lee
Amazing place. Parking is a bit difficult but worth the experience. The environment of the restaurant has a sweet unique modern view to it. The employees are very helpful and super nice. We got our food in a timely manner. I always get the Pad Thai here and its always an amazing plate from start to finish. Pad Thai definitely resembles Pad Thai from Thailand and you can request how spicy you'd want your dish to be. The sushi is great. Everytime I order sushi, the quality of the sushi is very tasteful; rice doesnt fall apart and the meats 'melt' in your mouth versus constantly having to chew. Defintiely dimensions better than sushi from the buffet. Overall, a great place to eat if you're feeling a mix of Thai food and sushi! Oh yeah, they have a bar with many ranges for alcohol selections.
See
First time here. Good atmosphere. Great service. The tom yum soup wasn’t as expected. The other dishes were good as expected! Sashimi was AMAZING!!! Will go again for the sushi!!!
Yew Kar
Great service, food was ok, a bit on the salty side. It's almost as if they forgot to salt/season it in the beginning and remembered at the end and poured a bunch of salt. The appetizers were good though
Mai Lee Vang
1st time being there since covid. Staff was nice n accommodating. Food was still just as delicious. Got some sushi n Potak Combination Seafood dish. Sorry, unfortunately no picture. Forgot got to take a picture, but definitely worth ordering. A mixture of seafood in a coconut curry broth.
Amy Anderson
My friend and I go there often. This time we had an entreé each and shared an appetizer. Everything was great! One of the dishes was less spicy than we wanted, but they made us a new plate, which was very generous of them to do! The server knew the menu well and communicated really effectively with us and the ones who do the cooking. This made it so we would get exactly what we were hoping for and were able to focus on our conversation and enjoy the space. Their happy hour prices are a steal! That is a great time to check out what they do best, if you don't mind a busy place.
Kathy Vang
I love the sushi at Soberfish! On this plate there’s ama ebi (sweet shrimp), saba (mackerel), sake (salmon), and hotate (scallop). Juffu is a sushi chef at Soberfish and I highly recommend visiting when he’s working (Mon-Fri, evenings)!
Austin Pray
Fantastic food (in generous portions) friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere.
Garrett Missiaen
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Great variety, quality, and well crafted rolls. Went two days in a row just to try more of their menu. Great lunch specials and drinks as well.
Brooke Amir
One of my favorite sushi Thai restaurants. Have been multiple times. Very much recommend.
Kia Thao
Staffs are always welcoming and friendly. If you like Thai food and sushi, this is the place.
Salomón Flores Hernández
Food was great, but service was very slow. Waited for almost an hour.
Mikky Daub
Fantastic happy hour specials!!! Everything was delicious and service was great.
Cheng Lo
One of the best sushi places in twin cities! The decor and dining area are beautiful. The food is flavorful and fresh. You will want to come back for more. Photo is Dragons nest sushi. I asked the chef on duty for Omakase and this was one of the dishes that came out.
Ro Sullivan
Definitely NOT a sushi restaurant. They have about 8 basic rolls you can choose from but their entree menu is large.
Sage TR
Great service and amazing sushi!!!
Hon Ki Cheung
It is a nice little neighborhood place for some pretty decent sushi and Thai food. To me the stir frys and hot dishes in general are average but a tad expensive. The sushi offering is very respectable, and it is done very nicely. It is on the pricey side still. The alcohol offerings however are very reasonably priced, and the cocktails in general are great. The atmosphere is mostly chill, but having the TV showing pawn shows was confusing.
Steve Gasser
Best food ever. Red curry is terrific. Try them for lunch. Great prices, excellent service.
Lah Vang
Love the vibe and the service is amazing. Prompt service with great food I forgot to take the rest of the food photos.
Shelley Kandola
I ordered the sashimi dinner and a Thai iced coffee. Once my meal arrived, it was amazing! I will definitely be back again. The only reason for 4 stars is because it took more than an hour to receive my food, and 30-45 minutes to receive the iced coffee. I don't know if this experience is typical, so I may update after the next time I go.
Miss Momo
Food and service is on point. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar. Bruce, Anthony, and Tahlia were wonderful! Extra shout out to Bruce making an impromptu date night out for this mother extra special with his above and beyond service. We'll be back!
Jeff Bernardy
I come here a lot. The food is always very good and the staff is always great. Always my first choice for sushi and/or Thai food.
Jim Thompson
You'll drive by and miss it. Don't! Good Thai food. Eat in or takeout, we've done both.
Mary Penny
Delicious, fresh and flavorful. No quality lost with soybean wrap substitute for seaweed. Will be back!
Peter Thomas
This place is quietly elegant, and very neighborhood...featuring an unusual combo of Thai and Japanese cuisine and a full bar with a small but varied and very well-curated tap beer selection.
Staff, service and hospitality are excellent, and they also do a hopping delivery and takeout business. There's a conference room for parties and meetings, if you need it... and I firmly recommend their Happy Hour !
Doug Hunter
Ordered takeout over the phone. The restaurant was very loud, yet the order taker was careful to triple check each item I ordered until it was right. Everything was tasty and wonderful.
Melissa Bjornson
Don't let the sketch neighborhood deter you from this gem. Great service, fabulous food + drink!
Gabriella
Gotten their sushi, appetizer, and entree dishes. Everything excels. Great cooks and friendly staff. The food always tastes so fresh. Their green curry is freaking incredible. Best green curry I have had in the Twin Cities so far. Sweet and sour dish was not what I expected but so so good. Sushi is great too. 10/10
Jo
EXTREMELY friendly and knowledgeable staff. I am only only on my appetizer and the service and food are extraordinary!!! The gyoza is the best.
Crispy Thomas
Good food a bit on the pricey side but tasty food. We had a fun and awesome waitress. Have to have a mask to get in and its enforced but once at table relaxed. My meal was good but a little too many cooked onions.
William Boland
Had a really pleasant interaction with multiple staff members and was very pleased with the spring roll, and the spicy salmon roll. Nice vibe inside, with a unique layout. Will definitely be back hopefully soon!
Adrieanna Bettie
Now please don’t try to go after 8:30ish, those doors will be closed because they will be cleaned and ready to go. I digress, you will enjoy your food and the wonderful service. I love that they have plenty of vegan dishes, seafood dishes, many more.
Please take your time enjoy the sushi, the apps, the soup, and the desserts.
Ohhh I forgot they have a bar too!!!!
Yi Fang Tan
Went on a quiet Monday night, service was excellent and food was even better. Would come again
Caleb Van Ornum
Great cute little place. Nice private tables and a quick wait staff! Fresh fish, and nice speciality rolls!
LaCora Bradford Kesti
One of my favorite neighborhood spots. Sushi and pad thai were just as I remembered! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Also, a great happy hour spot with great drinks!
olivia blomme
I’ve got to say Soberfish is my favorite restaurant, anytime my relatives are in the city I recommend we go there! My favorites on the menu would have to be the green papaya salad (spice level 4), the massaman curry, the thai iced tea, and the thai holy basil! absolutely delicious.
Gail Jones
Great prices & even better during happy hour 3-6.
Food is tasty & decor fun.
2 glasses of wine, 1 cocktail, 2 appetizers, 2 sushi choices, 1 sales all of under $50.
We will definitely be returning!
Beatrice Blanc
Soberfish never lets us down!!! So delicious, so fresh, and SUCH great staff!! Shout out to Alex (former server), Danny, and especially Ricky, who makes the BEST lychee martinis!!
Linh Do
My favorite sushi place in the twin cities!!! The Tako roll never disappoints, totally my favorite. I usually grab a few rolls along with a papaya salad. As is to be expected from sushi it's not what you would call a cheap meal, but it's nothing crazy expensive. I usually end up spending $60 for my husband and I, but I've never felt disappointed! Well worth the price. I always find myself coming back here even though there's billions of other sushi restaurants around!
Beth Gasser
Outstanding food and prices. We came here on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint.
Lance Kinstner
Picked up some to-go sushi from here. It was solid. Ordered online and picked up at a window just inside the waiting area.
The spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and hot fire rolls were all good, but not particularly spicy. The hot fire was my favorite of these three "spicy" rolls.
Suzy Q, California, Philly, and Soberlicious rolls were good as well, just less fancy than the spicy rolls above. The Philly was too cream-cheese heavy for me. As for the others, I think I'd get the California again first.
Omar Diaz
There's a warm and familiar vibe here, the kind you get from from friends and fam when it's been a minute from the last adventure. From greeting to sitting, staff were off greatest company. We could feel our server Tahlia's smile through her mask. The sweet-ish sauce that accompanied the lightly savory and fresh vegetable spring rolls were an amazing start. Terrific fried tofu is exactly as titled. What was pretty damn fantastic was the Garlic and Black Pepper stir fry. The sauce in particular was subtle yet richly savory, and the portion was more than enough for two people. I, like many that enjoy great company/service, will be celebrating this experience. Thank you Soberfish and Tahlia for a tasty evening! Will be back again and again!
Andrea Kish
Soberfish has excellent food! Dishes we've had recently we thought were delicious: egg rolls, masaman curry, pad thai, sushi.
Tommy Van Wylen
Really nice bar and fireplace sets the atmosphere. The sober fish noodles are incredible.
Pete Boisclair
Yummy sushi and drinks, nice atmosphere and friendly service that gives you honest opinions. Went here with friends both times I’ve been here. I’d go here again but wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s my favorite place for sushi in the Twin Cities. Overall though it deserves 4 stars!
David Ward
Wonderful easy no stress atmosphere. Good food. Getting tired of all the places w/ multiple tvs. This has one ,muted, above the bar tuned to food stuff. Recommend it.
Drew W
Have eaten here a number of times. Never disappoints. Have tried many of their menu items, all are very delicious! Decent happy hour to boot.
Ira Dixon
It's okay. I like that they check your temp at the door. I never felt like going out when I was running a fever but still, in covid times, it's peace of mind. The food is really just okay. The service isn't too great but it's also not really bad. The sushi was good. The pad thai had what looked, tasted, and felt like spaghetti. Honestly I'd only go during happy hour. The portions are also pretty huge. I take my leftovers to go but always give it to my Dad. He loves the place. Thats also the other reason I go there. Also there's never a wait. That's cool and unsual at any restaurant.
Chelsea McCay-Bachtiar
Not bad, but did not have the authentic spice I was hoping for. Overall pretty good but will go somewhere else next time I'm in town.
Jonathan Fischer
We did take out due to covid so I'm unable to rank the service and atmosphere indoors. Takeout was extremely easy as they have a walk-up window for minimal contact. The curry and spring rolls were excellent. Large portions of curry; however, the rice portion was tiny - we even ordered an extra side of rice and that wasn't enough for all of the curry and sauce! This was almost a five-star restaurant.
Kalia X
We had a party of 8 and our server was amazing, as well as the food. I was pleasantly surprised at how non-greasy the fried vegetables tasted compared to other restaurants. The papaya was delicious! This place is relaxing and cozy. We were there for a very long time and never felt rushed to leave.
Joe Roloff
Great happy hour, drinks and sushi. Will definitely be coming back!
Michael Galdenzi
This place is amazing. The service is always really good and the food is always fresh. My wife and I live about 40 minutes but anytime we are within 10 minutes away, we make a special trip. Their lunch menu has great options at a very affordable price. The happy hour is also a great option because not only are there drink specials, there are food discounts too. Check Soberfish out!
Jessie
Great lunch combos, tasty food and good sized portions.
Nick Morison
Not elite enough to get a 5 but I end up going here a lot so obviously it is consistently very good. The happy hour menu is where it's at, with lots of good options sushi wise at great prices. I like salmon skin sushi a lot and theirs is pretty good, especially at the happy hour rate. Service is always good and the tap lines consistently clean so their beer tastes the way it should (not universally true, sadly). Would recommend.
Trish W
Great food! My husband grew up in Japan in sushi bars. When he is impressed, that's a big deal!
Chase Nelson
Soberfish does a great job encompassing many different cuisine styles. That being said their sushi is definitely their best dishes. The other dishes that I tried were very heavy on the noodles and didn't have a great base to match. I'd consider returning in the future since they have a vast menu, but I'd definitely order something else.
BabsJ Fruechtl
Food was excellent as always, especially the wasabi shumai. This is the only place I know that has it. Our on line order didn't seem to go through so had to place order when I got there. Was prepared rather fast. 😋 …
Connor Allen
Love their sushi and the prices for it is pretty accurate.
Downside:
The pad se ew was not good tho, too salty and clumpy.
The papaya salad is mainly just full of fish sauce that’s it, (not really authentic).
Christoffer Hanson
Quickly becoming my fave spot for sushi in the cities. They've got all the standard nigiri, which is always super fresh, and they have a very good selection of rolls. Never had a bad bite of food from here. Also, if you like soft shell crab, these guys got the goods. One of my go-to's for pandemic eats.
Audrey Clark
I have gotten both their Pad Thai and fried rice (veganised) and they are good but really monotone in flavor so I got kinda sick of them before I got full. Their veggie egg rolls are decent, better than standard takeaway for sure. The lunch weekday prices are really good but I wouldn't bother going at full price.
Rebecca T.
I went to Sober Fish with a group for Happy Hour. The selection and prices for happy hour were excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious. If you are a vegan, their are multiple options for you. They don't use egg or dairy in their tempura (surprisingly rare) and the spring rolls were very nice. I will definitely go again.
joyce campos villalobos
Delicious. I always buy food to take out there.
Adam Hanson
Great sushi bar slash Thai restaurant. I've been there multiple times with friends and have always enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of spicy food and they were actually willing to make my meal extra hot unlike many places. Also their happy hour specials are a great deal unlike many places.
Nikhil
I love this place. Pretty decent, sensible variety of food (sushi, Thai food, etc) with fun drinks. I think a lot of people order takeout from here, because that takeout window is busy! There's a table by a fireplace if you're feeling chilly, and their massaman curry will warm your belly (I also love their noodle selection).
greg moser
Love Soberfish! Appreciate the Covid precautions.. social distanced tables, took temperature. Came for happy hour.. the edamame was perfect, egg rolls were great, had a couple of pineapple mimosas and broccoli stir fry. My friend had a glass of wine and a curry dish. Came out to less than $50. Server was attentive and friendly. Definitely worth the visit
Bridget Tetmeyer
I’ve dined at Soberfish twice, once in restaurant and once take out, and they were both great. There are tons of vegetarian options, which I really appreciated because I get bored of not being able to try things due to them having meat, fish, or meat broth. The sushi was fantastic, the best I’ve had in the Twin Cities. Again, there were tons of vegetarian and vegan options, and the Veggy Roll is amazing. My meat and fish eating counterparts also agree that Soberfish is the best sushi they’ve had as well. Absolutely recommend.
Samantha Saykao
I came here with a few friends to try it out. I have never been a huge fan of fusion restaurants. The atmosphere was really nice and our waitress was attentive. I just wasn't a huge fan of the food. I ordered a noodle dish and it was slimy and not well flavored. It seems busy every night, but I wouldn't recommend coming here.
Stuart Raymond
This was my first foray into sushi, besides the rolls you get at markets. I really enjoyed it. I don't even remember what I had. Some eel and straight up raw fish not rolled up. All of it was good, very good. I'm definitely going back. Between the two of us we spent 60 bucks and that was happy hour prices. So the price might be high but as I said, it was my first time and we did indulge. And from what I've heard this is a top notch place so check it out.
Alyssa P
Nice and simple lunch menu. Good variety and reasonable prices (even for a couple on a budget!) Only missing a star for service because I didn't get that "wow" feeling I've had at some other places, but I will definitely be back!
EDIT: Came back again and I have to reiterate the service here is still pretty bad. But 4 stars remain and I attribute them all to the food. Well worth a trip if you're okay with getting dirty looks from the waitress. 👍
Blaine Cross
Excellent Thai and seafood and at a reasonable price. We particularly like the level of spices that can be added from mild to I-should-not-have-done-that. Exactly what we wanted, with a cozy, easy atmosphere. Great sushi, good beer and drink selection, many happy hour options, and friendly. It's a Seward Neighborhood best bet for sure.
Lara Hammer
Their happy hour is lovely. The spring rolls, cream cheese wontons, and shrimp tempura are great. The sushi is really good and there's lots of affordable happy hour options. I don't recommend the pad Thai. The drink options are extensive. The lychee flavor in the cheapest sake is really tasty.
Jonathan Sulisz (jpsulisz)
Went here with some family that came to Minneapolis to visit, unfortunately I don't think this left any of them to really think we have a really great fish food.
Half the table got sushi while the other half got noodle type entrees. Those who got the noodle entrees found that the mix of food didn't mix well. They were spicy dishes but the spice differed pretty greatly between the two.
The sushi wasn't bad but I know you can go around town for a better value.
Service was pretty good, though it was a pretty light night with half of their tables empty.
Overall, not a terrible place to go if you know what you want and happen to be in South Minneapolis but definitely better out there.
Vic W
Ahhh i really love this place. Their happy hour is amazing! I come here maybe 1 Saturday a month. Check out their pad Thai! My new favorite dish is the pineapple curry with shrimp. Quite cost effective, you can get a large meal for under 20$ if you're not going for the sushi. Love!
Andrea C. Harrison
Great food, but service was a little slow at times. The restaurant was not full so it was a little strange that we were not given all our place settings. Also, there were items listed on the menu that they no longer make.
Chloe BeadLady
Great happy hour. It's best to go during earlier hours though, or during dinner rush. Towards the end of the day, they don't seem to make as good of sushi. Unfortunately not my favorite pad thai by far, but the curries are great!
Ba Vang
I went during happy hour and the food we got as a group was great! Although it was on the salty side, everything was still good. I haven't tried their sushi but their curry, wontons, Thai tea, stir fry, water, and fry rice was satisfying. I definitely recommend to others + tourist to stop by and try their food.
Joyce Fitzgerald
Delicious food, excellent service, beautiful space! The owner greeted every table personally . The server was happy to answer every question and attend to every specific request. There were creative cocktails and well curated selection of beer and wine. People of many walks of life seemed very much at home there.
E
The spicy tuna roll was spicy for me but I am sensitive to spiciness. I branched out and ordered the Rama spinach curry with mock duck....I was worried the entire time waiting for my dish to arrive at the table. Lol it was delicious! The curry wasn't too spicy for me and had terrific flavor. The mock duck wasn't my favorite on it's own but worked well in the dish with the sticky rice that was served with it. I'm glad I tried something new. Would definitely come back!
Lisa Roberts
Best green and red Thai curry on the planet. Hands down. Sober noodles and drunken noodles are also fantastic! Had sushi twice there....not impressed the first time but the second time it was very good. And I love the squid-shaped light fixtures!!
Renee Jones
I recently ordered a few appetizers, fried rice, and sushi for the first time from here. The appetizers came with delicious sauces & dips and were very tasty. The fried rice with beef had been very appetizing flavor (not heavy on soy sauce!) and I appreciated that it had visible veggies with the beef. I also really enjoyed the simple sushi we had, the asparagus and avocado sushi hit the spot, since I currently can't have raw foods. Prices were what one would expect for such well made food.
Thank you!! We will definitely be back again.
Mai Vang Lee
Went there for a celebration with a big group. It was a challenge to get seats and order. As a customer, I can tell that the waitresses there doesnt have big groups often. So if you're doing a big group event, it might be hard. However, it was a great experience. The foods are great! It doesnt make you feel bloated after the meal! Definitely check it out.
Jon Yoon
Ehh I’m not sure what happened since this place has been historically good but I spent $80 on takeout for a family member’s birthday and I probably could have gotten triple the amount of food from Chinese Takeout. Each tiny takeout box was $15 and we were told that 5 dishes could feed 10 people; it barely fed 5. The only dish that was worth it was the curry. Will return when this place has doing-in available
Mike M
I've had the Green/Red/Panjang curries, the Pad See Yew, the Mothra Sushi, and the Spring Rolls, and all of them have been great. They also have a great happy hour with very reasonably priced curries. I'll also add that the service has been great and the atmosphere is very nice. This is a great date spot but it's still a cool spot to go with your bros and not break the bank. High praise for this place so far.
Gao Thao
Their food has great flavors that work well together. They have a selection of drinks, salads, stirfrys, curry, noodles, and rice dishes. The sushi bar is excellent as well. The food always leave me wanting more!
David Stirtz
Third time here and honestly I won't go anywhere else for Thai food in Minneapolis. The pad Thai is flavorful, complex, and doesn't need any spice to be delicious. Order it plain and use the spice tray to make it perfect with one of four spices. Lunch specials are great and getting two sushi rolls for ten bucks is a good deal. Their spicy salmon roll was delicious and it's obvious they make their own instead of buying it premade. I highly recommend trying this place out. The traditional Thai fried rice is also recommended.
Dale Gruber
I think Soberfish is very typical of Thai and sushi in the Cities. It does the job but it doesn’t demand you come back often. I go here often because it is by my house. For the most part I think it is good not great. Yet the price is pretty good and I haven’t had anything bad here.
Don’t come here for the best sushi or Thai you can have in the city. Come here for competent food, reasonable prices, and a nice staff and location.
Lizzie
love love love the sushi here. I always get the sashimi dinner with a side of spicy mayo. Very filling and plated beautiful
Diana Harris
Delicious food, polite service, and great atmosphere. They provide dine in and DoorDash delivery from what I observed while eating I very much recommend giving them a try
Aaron Johnson
I used to enjoy coming here as everything was pretty good and the prices were awesome. The prices are still really low but the quality of food had gone down dramatically. If you're looking for decent fast food in the areas you will probably enjoy this place. However, if you're looking for something more than that, you should have come here 2 years ago.

We ordered through Bitesquad tonight and the food was amazing! Pad Panang, red curry, fish cakes, spring rolls and the sushi platter! It was all VERY good!!! When I ordered, the time they estimated delivery was right on! And it came in 50 minutes (7:05pm). Great all the way around!!!
Hanahh Eggum
Really good happy hour deals!
AW Dorris
Awesome combination of Thai and Japanese food. Good range of healthy options and delicious “izakaya” comfort foods. Staff, service, and prices are fantastic. So is the space itself.
Their sushi bar and staff are particularly excellent. This might be the best sushi bargain in town.
For those who are seeking a more authentic sushi experience at an unbeatable value: they serve such delights as natto (fermented soybeans), and ikura with uzura (salmon eggs with a quail egg on top), as well as a great selection of the more common rolls, nigiri, and sashimi.
For the best sushi experience, sit at the sushi bar and ask for omakase (“chef’s choice,” essentially). You will *love* it.
Moss Schumacher
Happy hour was so nice on my wallet. 3 drinks, an appetizer, and 2 sushi rolls for about $30 is just about perfect. High quality food for the price, and very friendly service as well. Definitely recommend!
Amikogaabawiikwe
Soberfish is one of my favorite spots in Minneapolis. Happy hour deals are friendly to the pocket and has a great selection of tasty treats and drinks! Give the hot sake a taste..you wont be disappointed! A fun and hip spot with a friendly staff and quick service. A menu with something for everyone's taste. You'll find a favorite within your first visit.
Dee CrepitUS
I go here at least once a week. I love their happy hour options. My go to is salmon skin roll and fresh spring rolls. Oh, and their dynamite roll is totally dynamite! It's Thai spicy! Not Minnesota spicy. ;)
Norberto Vazquez
My favorite restaurant in the Cities. I always go here whenever I have business or travel in this area. Sometimes I'll go twice in one trip. Try their Pineapple Fried Rice and ask they mix in Sirracha into it. I always get the chicken, but you can get tofu or beef if I remember right. They also have a good sushi bar and a bar with alcohol <3
Steve Sheldon
First off... disregard the reviews of the previous folks, they must have been upset about something before going to this place. Our experience from the food to the staff brought us back to the wonderful time we spent Thailand. The food is great and so is the service. The wait staff all smile and go out of their way to help. Plan your next date night here and you won't be disappointed.
Loren Siebold
Great selection of vegan options. Lots of dishes can be made vegan upon request. One of the few places in the Twin Cities where I've found natto. Carcass eaters in our party also enjoyed their selections.
RayShell Yohansen
I am so lucky to live in walking distance from sober fish. It's like 3 places in one. The bar is a classic Asian Izakaya that service things as fresh as Mojitos with real mint and a sake bomb. There is a nice sushi bar with good choices. They'll even make things off the menu. Then there's the sit down portion which is great for big groups and has a solid Thai and Japanese menu. The staff are always welcoming and fun. I find myself here more and more.
Jessica Swartout
Everything was so delicious, the royal fish cake appetizer was melt in your mouth amazing! I had the Sweet green curry, spicy and amazing! Also had an order of sake nigiri, so yummy!
t y
Pro: Nice staff, bar area with drinks. Usual sushi dishes such as sashimi and others. Imported drinks available. Comfortable seating.
Cons: Our server was nice and attentive, but wasn't familiar with some basic sushi questions such as what Bluefin tuna was. Kinda suprised me a little. Small issue, but, food competency plays a role in the restaurants performance.
Stephanie Manthe
We'd ordered from BiteSquad once before, and it was great takeout. Dining in? It was even more delicious. Good service, nice sake list, perfectly flavored stir fry. We'll return for a curry or stir fry fix any day.
Alicia Emsley
Good Thai place, great service too. Nice mix of Thai and Japanese food.
Darren Wacker
Fun location and fun atmosphere. GREAT curry and friendly staff. Weekday traffic seemed light, but the quality was really top notch. I had a great meal and experience, even though I was just there on my own.
Joseph “Joe” Gentry
Excellent, had a great time, wait staff was friendly great location easy to get to nice colorful menu all around great time.
Anthony Proulx (Ase Anthony)
It was good. Service was slower then expected but the food was great. Went to lunch and they had a smaller menu then dinner, but will definitely be back to try the dinner menu out. Full bar options if that's your jam.
Cole Carter
Spicy means very very spicy - consider yourself warned, my mouth almost burned off. Great happy hour options. The regular dinner menu as well as the sushi menu exceeded all my expectations! The staff is friendly. Food can be slow to come sometimes but overall this restaurant is a hidden gem. Parking can get weird but I normally find a spot in the neighborhood nearby. Legend has it that they were going to name it "Drunkfish" but the neighborhood didn't like the name. Sit at the sushi bar if you can, thoes guys back there are great!
Becky Schneider
One of my favorite sushi places! The gyoza appetizer is fantastic, and their late night happy hour is a great deal. Susan is our favorite bartender 😁 she rocks! …
Kelsey Stern
Quiet, charming atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and amazing sushi. Very happy we found this place!
Bailey Stottrup
Fav Pad Thai and wontons in the Twin Cities
KJ P
Food was good although salty. Staff was friendly and competent. Service was fast.
MacLean Hawley
Pretty good, but nothing outstanding, and a little pricey. I got a veggie heavy dish, but my mushrooms were undercooked, and the broccoli was overdone! Great Thai ice tea though.
Bret Randolph
Great Happy Hour. Sashimi was very fresh and Sushi was just right. The wine was very good and it was a great value. The spicy tuna roll was just right. I asked for a special preparation of yellowtail sashimi and they accommodated my request happily.
Cecilia Hauer
Sevice wa good. Food was very good and drinks dreams specially the price haven't seen normal prices on drinks in a long time. Usually overpriced
Melissa Coombs
We love the sushi and entrees here! Also the green mussels are fantastic! Our favorites include the massaman curry and the lad na (gravy noodle dish)... Enjoy the atmosthere and have always had great service.
K Vang
Awesome! Went for a team lunch and we all got the lunch deal. It was the perfect portion for the perfect price! Everyone on the team really enjoyed the food! Thanks will come again.
Mary Hettrick
I got the drunken noodles and veggie spring roles. Both were good, not great. I was there early in the evening so didn't get a great take on the vibe but it seemed like it might turn into a fun place to hang out.
Robert Hain
Great place for happy hour. They are doing a good job on Covid prevention too. Nicely spaced seating. They also take your temperature on arrival.
Mary Vang
My favorite Thai and Japanese hybrid restaurant! The Thai food is amazing! I absolutely love their Green papaya salad, Soberfish noodles (with udon), and fiery beef salad. I get those all the time!
e rivers
We love Soberfish! We've eaten here multiple times over the last couple years and have never had a bad experience. Excellent gluten free and vegan options. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere.
Katherine Blauvelt
We went in a snow storm, the vibe was so friendly and our server was amazing with our 1-year old and made her smile and taught her high 5s. Also had a great broccoli stir fry, my husband had the massaman curry - YUM. Drinks were stiff too. Double YUM! Our new fav place.
Gemma Garcia
I got fired from this place, but during the orientation I got to try the Laab Salad. I've tried other location's Laab Salad to avoid coming here but this one is one my favorites. So I come back here often.
They give you a good deal of sticky rice and half a head of lettuce. It's a great choice, if you like citrus flavored meat.
They also have a great HH for suhi! Get the sushi during HH!!
Kellie Wilson
The food here is decent but not the very best. It is a good spot to meet with friends and have a decent Thai food and a drink. It is a bit pricier than it should be, as is everything in Seward and Longfellow, but you won't be entirely disappointed.
L D
Both Thai food and sushi are ok, it is your run of a mill food, nothing extraordinary. The bartender was busy doing other things and never was attentive. You need to ask for every little thing. If he has time, he is watching TV.
Mallory Lammers
I’ve never had anything here that I didn’t like! I’ve enjoyed dining in-restaurant (pre-Covid) and getting take-out. The Dynamite Sushi and the Pad Thai are my go-tos.
Rachel Baltuff
The food was delicious, and had lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Wonderful staff and great ambiance!
Chad Davance
Great Minneapolis local spot. Been coming here for years and it's always good. The sushi is good the recommendations are always good. One of our go to sushi spots
Spencer Bingham
Fantastic food, and great happy hour deals! Covid compliant for dine-in, but if you're worried, their take-out is basically the base of my personal food pyramid 😂 …
Ian McLaughlin
This is one of my wife and my favorite local restaurants. We are particularly fond of the Massuman Curry, Green Curry, Larb, Pad Thai and Drunken Chicken Wings. It is the best massuman curry I have ever had. The service is always fast and friendly. The lighting could be a bit more romantic (on dimmers), but the food, service and atmosphere makes up for this. They have a good happy deal on both food and drinks. The sushi is ok, but not as good as the entree dishes (which are incredible). A must go if you enjoy Massuman Curry.
Julie
My friend and I ordered Vegetable Tempura, the Choo Chee Curry with scallops and the Sweet Green Curry and split it. The Tempura was unique and delicious, with great vegetable choices. The Scallops in the Choo Chee Curry were soft, plentiful and delicious. The curry sauce was rich, and complex with just the right amount of spice. Zero complaints there. The vegetable choices, however were cheap "filler veggies" cut very coarsely.
My greatest disappointment though, was that they failed to include long eggplant in the green curry, despite that being listed as one of the vegetables in the menu description. Long eggplant are one of the main reasons I order this dish whenever I order Thai. The curry sauce was also lackluster, neither spicy or complex, tasting mainly of heavy coconut cream.
Jon Chin
SO GOOD!! Best food and happy hour in Seward. Happy hour twice a day 2-6, 9-close, 7 days a week.
I've been there 2x a week since they opened and have tried just about everything on the happy hour menu and several things from the regular menu. The service has always been quick and responsive.
The Thai food is great, as good as anywhere in Minneapolis and almost as good as On's in St Paul, though overall I prefer Soberfish because the service and atmosphere are SO MUCH better. The Pad See Ew, Soberfish noodles, and drunken noodles are SO DELICIOUS! The red & green curries are the best in town and discounted during happy hour.
I've tried Soberfish's sushi several times and have always been pleased - good rice, fresh fish, and creative rolls served quickly. For the price, the sushi is hard to beat. Much better than many dedicated sushi joints around town (Tiger Sushi, etc), though I have yet to try the big specialty rolls to compare to my favorite top tier places like Wakame.
Andy Wicevic
It's a very nice restaurant. Very clean & quite charming. The food was excellent as well as the service. Nice menu & reasonably priced. I will certainly will return & highly recommend.
kat h
Good but sometimes overpriced. They have a sushi bar which I would say is it's best thing. Lots of other variety too though if sushi isn't your thing. Very modern and high end looking.
Lisa Andrews
The most flavorful massaman curry I have ever had and I have eaten it in many places around the country. Vegan and gluten free are accommodated, just ask. Prices are reasonable.
Kelly O'Connell
Very good food and larger portions. Wait time for carry out or dine in is a little slow. Only thing I wish differently was a lunch buffet like True Thai once had.
Alice Ts
Best bloody mary I have ever had to date! Their crispy pork belly & chinese broccoli seasonal stirfry is AMAZING. Along with their sushi (the green tiger is my favorite so far) and happy hour. I tried the sober soup with ramen and beef and was also impressed. The service is always incredible. 10/10 MUST TRY SOBER FISH. ♡
Randy King
Really great price-pairing options for sushi or entrees. Expertly prepared and plated, great decor and service. And, quite delicious sushi; I had a combo of salmon roll and Philly roll. Perfect.
Haley Weiler
I got the pad Thai for take out. It was good and had a saucy lemony flavor but the pork was extremely dry:( 6/10
Sarah Kottke
Better than I remember. Delicious local restaurant. Super busy with Bite squad orders! The menu is overwhelmingly large, guilty of ordering sushi and papaya salad. Lot's of great options.
Shannon Miller
Our server, Alex, was amazingly fast for the large group. We had 20+ people and he handled it all on his own. Food was great and affordable!
Joyce Malle
We go to the laundromat across the street. We go in almost every time we do laundry. We often do the lunch specials. Our favorites are the sober wings, the pad thai and the fried rice. We also love the thai ice tea.
Melanated rich Convo
Great egg rolls great egg rolls very nice interior , full bar cv19 ready elegant dining.... Waited 30 minutes for my egg rolls and they were send me cold how does that happen even after I ordered delivery and they came hot
Eli Ross
Awesome sushi! Inviting atmosphere. Good service. Wide selection of sushi with some of the sushi at happy hour prices. Happy hour 9pm until 12am.
Beth Ryan
Food was amazing. Fantastic spring rolls. Staff was great! Happy hour had great food deals.
Steve Backoff
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Usually not too busy, though it looks like they do a lot of takeout.
Xavier Cajune
Great food. Service was poor however. The waitresses were on there phone the whole time after serving us. I had to go up 2 them and ask for our bill and boxes.
Jairo Molina
I love the happy hour here. The food is top notch at very affordable prices. The ambiance is modern but quiet and servers are friendly and helpful. Sober Fish is our little treasure in the Seward neighborhood.
k e
The food always looks so delicious on the menu but unfortunately is underwhelming almost every time. And I've also got sick twice after eating there :-(
Chi Poe
Good foods along with great service just make a good first time experience!
Mark Holmes
We go here often and the sushi is always consistent delicious and priced right!
Tai Tai
The waitress was humble. She messed up our order and fixed it promptly. We then ran into other problems and she fixed it. The food was okay and decently priced.
Joel Rogness
We had a very nice time. Only ordered off the sushi menu, and everything was very nicely done. The food came out quickly. We'll be back.
Don MacLeod
This is a really nicely laid out restaurant. The food is good, but a little overpriced for what get. They do have takeout, which is nice. I have eaten here several times and would go back.
Dominick Briggs
Shockingly well priced Sushi in a great location. Service was fast & friendly and the food was even better than I expected.
Stephen Gray
Taking over the old True Thai location, Sober Fish is a worthy successor to that legendary restaurant. Hands down, the best and most authentic Thai food in Minneapolis. Highly recommend the Panang Curry.
Christopher Ray Hunnicutt
Once True Thai found itself gone the way of the buffalo with perpetual problems & inner issues, Sober Fish came to fill those tireless shoes. Simply put, the atmosphere is warm & inviting as soon as the first scent of Thai cuisine is breathed in. With excellent flavors & a fun staff, Sober Fish brings an enigmatic energy both in taste & appeal, but as always, a FEW warnings abound:
(1) Prices. You'll not find better prices around town for such a diverse & spirited menu. Though the flavors aren't of the highest quality, it is far better to pay for what you are getting, than paying for the hope of the ends justifying the means, when it RARELY does.
(2) Happy Hour Specials. It is VERY DISAPPOINTING that the classically creative, cream cheese wonton selection is not included in the price cuts, but despite this oversight, Sober Fish's Happy Hour menu is extremely well put together, and gives you a tour of what the place has to offer WITHOUT sacrificing portion size, flavor or anything of that matter.
(3) Portions. Even though you're paying less than ten dollars for most entrees, the portion size is EASILY enough for two to three people to share together.
(4) Staff. With a smile, fresh greeting & nod, your service will always begin & end. Everyone, including the "powers-that-be" are intimately interested in how their curious cuisine is perceived, often offering taste tests of new menu items, as well as, compensations for meals of which were not received by the guests as he or she was hoping for. This could, however, be an EARLY indication of overcompensation for approval, where once True Thai was a place revered for its great flavors.
WARNINGS…
(1) Spice Scale. Many places toute the five-pepper scale, and more often than not, you'll find yourself underwhelmed by their own notions of what "spice" really is. Sober Fish is an exception to the rule. HOWEVER… the "three out of five" selection is more like a "five out of five," and the "five out of five" is off the charts. Miraculously without distracting from the flavor, each rung of spirited spice does an excellent job of putting that necessary spice there, but don't be American & ambitious. You have nothing to prove, and now have the knowledge beforehand that their scale is NO JOKE, truly.
(2) Sushi. One might expect with such a grandiose logo, bold branding & restaurant name, this would be a must-see-to-believe establishment for such. It is the exact opposite. The prices during Happy Hour are to-die-for with the selections offered, but the foul, fishy scents are uncontrolled, unwavering & reminiscent of those found in Cub Foods' sushi crafting area. Then, upon receiving the sushi, you will find the taste of the rolls, the authenticity of the flavors completely incorrect, poorly presented, and worst of all, cheap.
sirhsharrington
Soberfish is an interesting name, because the happy hour is very good and I was not sober leaving. The sushi was delicious and fresh. The saki warm and cheap.
Swarup Ray
Great sushi! I like the gyoza they serve. Awesome pricing during happy hour! Late night happy hour starts at 9 pm.
Brant Goneau
Great service along with quality reasonably priced Sushi)Come at food happy hour and get the best for less!I have been here over a dozen times with Daughters. .that's 3 thumbs UP!!

Bay Wilkinson
Delicious thai food at a small cost. We had a little bit of every category on the menu and enjoyed it all! Great happy hour prices as well.
Forest Green Jindra
Thai menu is similar to original sawatdee bar and cafe menu but better. Sushi is average for this market. Massaman beef Curry and seaweed salad!!
Bailey Waters
Great variety of thai food and the sushi selection was great. Good lunch deals with an appetizer and entre for $10.
Rayjennae Bass

Patherchia Thao
Best papaya in town. I eat here almost every week. You won’t find a better happy hour for sushi.
Seán Kelly
Great food, great service and just quiet enough for conversation during f it's not busy. If they had better sound dampening (e.g., more accustic dampening panels) it would have gotten a five from me.
Kate Joy
The ambiance and fireside feels so smooth n nice. Love that you can select your desired level of spice heat!
Alex Rose
It sucks that this place replaced True Thai...but I won't review based on that.
It's ok sushi, and their staff seems rushed to get you in and out. I'd recommend a few other places before I went here.
Christina Julian
They have a great lunch special! But always seem understaffed. Come prepared to have a long lunch and you won't be disappointed.
Sharon Her

Micah Farenik
Fantastic happy hour deals, and pretty good sushi. The masaman curry is some of the best I have ever had.

The selection of fish was good but the rolls themselves were lackluster for the price. I'd go here again for the selection of fish but probably wouldn't buy a lot of rolls if any.
Ashley Strawn

Great food. Start posting updates to current hours online ANYWHERE! Google Maps, your website, Facebook, literally anywhere. Can't tell when you're open or gone for family holiday. Frustrating!
Ian Swordsman
Lunch special is a good price, though some of the dishes are less than awesome. Some of the dishes are awesome though, so guess and check to find out.
