Reviews of Shuang Cheng
Sara Cathi
Went for supper with a group of 6 and were seated immediately at a large table with a lazy susan. Great place for Chinese food where you want to eat family style! Very generous with portion size. I’d definitely go back with a large group.
Cory
Always a good time. Staff is friendly, food is delicious with large portions and great prices. The Sesame chicken + pan fried dumplings are delicious. A to-go box is almost always a must.
Courtney Harder
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Tried the egg rolls, dumplings, and so much more. Everything was out of this world!!! Great flavor and spices in every dish. Service was amazing! Worth a stop in Minneapolis!!!
Jayden Ham
I have came to this place since I was little and it was the best. For newcomers I recommend the chicken fried rice, and the sesame chicken. Best service ever, I really recommend this restaurant. Please come to this restaurant to help the business.

I've been here a couple times now and always had great food every time. Shuang cheng has delicious Chinese food that I've liked when dining in and takeout. The quality doesn't change like some places.
I usually get their chicken in garlic sauce and the hot and sour soup. I've also tried their fried rice and noodle dishes which are really good! The chicken in garlic sauce is definitely my favorite. You can choose to have only the chicken or add mixed vegetables in it as well. When I order this to go I feel like the rice portions they give are a little small compared to dining in, but the entree always taste the same.
They have great lunch specials too for a steal. You get a lot of food for what you're paying for which is always a plus. I wish they had dinner specials too but the food is still great.
M B
They serve authentic Chinese food. We tried the lobster, beef soup and green beans. I would definitely eat here again.

This restaurant had very good food and is super tasty. Buy the chicken fried rice it is very good. 5 star restaurant for sure!
Adam Pfeifer
I absolutely love this restaurant. Portions are huge (easily able to split an entree with someone else). Prices are super reasonable, and the tea is awesome. The orange chicken is to die for. They can also do a lot of the menu gluten free if you ask for it (without an uncharge!)
Jason Dai
Me and my family have been going here for a while and this is as authentic as Chinese cuisine can be. The fried rice here is the best and all of the stir fried and salt and pepper dishes are delicious. My favorite is the salt and pepper wings!
Meshach Weber
Some of the most quality, clean, and consistent Chinese food in town. Very hygienic space. Some dishes are very authentic, others definitely adapted for MN eaters but still well done. Seafood is very well done, perfectly cooked. Szechuan shrimp is spot on for Hong Kong style. Walleye and Sea Bass is amazing (though I’ve heard the latter is not sustainable. Love the Chicken and Tofu soup. Perfect for fighting of a bug in winter.
Eric Nigg
Easily the best chines restaurant in the twin cities. Every dish is generous, flavorful, and served quickly. They also get big props for being so authentic, it's been there for ages, and it has a fantastic New York vibe to it.

After reading the reviews on Google I phone ordered the food. My husband picked it up. Yes, its true. Customer service is bad. Food is good. Food taste, packaging everything was good.
Customer service over phone was bad. My husband also faced little rudeness at the restaurant.
Rachael Acevedo-Hoffmann
Highly recommend their lunch special, which comes with an entree, egg roll or wontons, and fried rice. I always get the Szeshuan chicken, but the orange chicken is a super popular choice as well. You can call ahead and pick it up too, which is nice for those days when you want to eat at home. Parking is difficult in the area, so I would recommend parking in the nearby neighborhood and walking a few blocks.
Mark Miller
Best Chinese food we've had in a very long time. Huge fan of their sesame chicken and orange beef. Their pan fried dumplings are Huge and delicious.

Consistency is important for me when I like a place. I started going when I was an undergrad in college and after 20+ years I’m still grateful it tastes the same -DELICIOUS. Authentic chinese menu is available besides the egg fu young and chow mein dishes. I do love their egg fu young and the gravy that comes. It’s so good. If you’re expecting good service it’s hit or miss, but you’re not dining at a fancy place. You want excellent service you go to a 5 star Michelin restaurant. They’re friendly and will get you what you order, please don’t review their service because honestly I’m Asian and I don’t get special treatment. I like that it’s clean and pretty fast service and hot food always. Writing this review is making me hungry. Lol Try them out because they won’t disappoint.
Andrea Franz
By far my favorite Chinese place. I’ve been coming here for years, and it’s always tasty. Veggies are SO fresh and cooked very well. Wide variety of menu options, good service, hot tea served with every dine in meal, great lunch specials (the Beef and Broccoli lunch special is pictured, also includes egg roll or cream cheese wontons). Take out orders are packaged well. Fresh seafood options. Highly recommend!
Brian Poland
Best lo mein in the area, wontons are good they have regular cheese ones and they are crunchy on the outside with a good soft cream cheese center. Vege fried rice is really good and my favorite is the sesame chicken! If you want the best greasy delicious lo mein noodle look no further
Michael Nguyen
Have been to this place for over 10 years and have never been disappointed. The service is incredible and attentive. Food is delicious and comes out fast with large portions. Shuang Cheng always remains to be a great place to eat with other people with a family friendly atmosphere.

First time here and a friend walks in and tells my kids that “this is the best Chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities”.
We were seated right away as well walked in the door on a Friday night. There were able amount of people still in the restaurant. People were ordering takeouts also.
Food came in relatively fast. Dishes were not as big as I thought they would be for the price. Prices were probably $1-$2 higher than what I’m used to seeing. Tasted pretty good. Fried chicken looked burnt but was really good! Assort meat & veggies Fun was good except the noodles were broken up. Didn’t look fresh. Triple delight was good, I’ve had better. Fried rice was a little sticky.
Bus boy cleaned tables offend & server filled water often. I would definitely come back but it was not a 5 Star for me because it didn’t wow me.
Linda Thao
The portions are big and the prices are cheap. Food tastes pretty good. Only thing that bothered me is that in the shrimp with curry sauce dish they only put 5 shrimp in there. The rest of the dish is basically just bamboo, onion, and green onion. Wish there was more shrimp.
Michel Ceron
Good and fast service. The food portions are very big and there is a lot of options on the menu about vegetables, meat, beef, fish, noodles, rice, tofu, etc. Tasty food. Prices around 12 dollars, a bit less for side dishes. Cream cheese wontons are delicious!
Ian Allen
Food was super tasty and came out fast—they have great lunch specials! Service was friendly and the restaurant had quite a few large tables which is perfect if you’re coming with a large group. Will definitely stop by again for lunch sometime.
Suzy B
Wonderful selection! Delicious! The vegetable fried rice is awesome! It has asparagus, tofu, water chestnuts and more. General Tso was scrumptious! The shrimp vegetable (har chow) was soooo good!
Judy
Lunch hour can take a while so beware of the rush. A four of us went and we knew it would be a tricky time because we could tell they were understaffed with a waiting line.
Our food took longer than we hoped and they arrived in waves. The taste was great and the portions were filling. Next time I'm in the area, I'll avoid the lunch hour.
Michael Hughes
We ordered the Mongolian beef, the Mongolian Chicken and the sesame Chicken and all of them were good. I was surprised by the Chicken wings we ordered as well, I liked that they came with the onions they were cooked with. That was a nice touch. We'll be back soon.
Nancy Lo
Really good Chinese food in Dinky town area. They have a large menu with tons of variety. Food is within the 11 to 15 dollar price range for most dishes though some dishes like the roast duck cost up to 48 dollars. The duck is delicious. Space and be tight and it can be crowded at times but the food is good and plentiful. The portions are huge and you can have tons of left overs.
Ben Ernst
Great food and great fast and friendly service! You can never pass up their Sesame Chicken special! Great food with a great price in which you simply can’t beat!
Mimi X
If you’re hesitant about coming here, don’t. It is absolutely my favorite place of all time. I always go here for two things.
The baked spicy crab and the fried walleye in hot meat sauce.
Get those two, it’ll change your life.
Matthew Frisby
One of the best chinese restaurants in the Twin Cities. Great price, great service, great food. I'm a huge fan of their Ma Pao Tofu
Lauren Hallstrom
The staff are very welcoming and friendly! Excellent food and very great prices!
Jacob Wagner
Classic Chinese food that can't be beat! The egg rolls and cream cheese wontons I recommend so so very much! And wait staff was super attentive.
Johnathan Schuster
Home to my death row meal, Tofu in Brown Sauce. Delicious.
Heejin L.
The food is always delicious and the servers are kind :) Get the honey walnut shrimp 🍤
Rachel
Orange Peel Beef is our favorite but we haven't had anything here that disappointed. We come from an hour away and are so happy they are open again for dining. If you sit by the brick way you will notice something kind of cool. Always good service.
Tatyana Tuy
Got my favs eggplant w/ brown sauce and mock duck w/ mix veg in garlic sauce! Delish!
Norton Lam
My favorite Chinese restaurant in the Cities. My staples are seafood vegetable noodle, singapore rice noodle, and fried walleye in hot meat sauce. The latter two dishes rival that of any Chinatown in North America.
C Tang
Been coming here ever since being an undergraduate at the U. Has always been my go to for hardcore Chinese seafood. Their crab is always fresh and if you are not into seafood, then they have a huge assortment of other delicious dishes. Parking can be troublesome, especially on the weekends.
Bruce Lee
My family has been going here for years. Always great experience here but our last experience was not the best. Ordered 2 dish on Thanksgiving day. I get it, they are probably busy or what not but we got to the store before they even opened. Ordered 2 dish and one of the waiter puts both on the counter but did not say if both were ours or anything. He just said this one is yours and points to a bag. We left home 30 min later and found out it was only 1 dish. Called them for a refund on second dish and they would absolutely would not refund us. They blamed us for not grabbing both bags even though they only pointed to 1 bag and said it's your "bag" and not "bags". Horrible...... absolutely horrible they would not refund us the second dish and expected us to drive 30 min back to grab the dish that's been sitting there for over an hour. The owner and one of the gal waitress is really nice. But this 1 particular waiter and waitress was just being absolutely difficult.
Tab Fellows
Iconic college campus food. Order lunch to go and have enough to eat student style for days. One of the better Chinese restaurants in the twin cities. Shuang Cheng means twin cities in Chinese.
Whitney Grindberg
Always amazing. Fast and really good service. The lunch specials are great, though it's too bad they are $2+ more than they used to be (not their fault though). I love General Tso's, my husband loves the chicken lo mein, and the fried rice is so good. The cream cheese wontons are also delicious-- and no crab or anything in them!
Kim Johnson
Fabulous food, and lots of it. They were also helpful with allergy requests.
D Hampton
Super busy but worth the wait. Call in your order ahead of time to reduce your idle time the area is high traffic so parking could be an issue
Chris Valenty
Best lunch specials in Minneapolis!
Tara DeCrow
OMG amazing!! We drive 40 minutes to come to this place - because the food is that good! Orange beef and pan-friend noodles with chicken and vegetables are delicious. Customer service is always exceptional too. And we always manage to get a booth :)
Mary “Staz” Y
Huge portions and reasonable prices. Hands down the best Chinese spot in the twin cities. The roast duck Lo mein is my go to, and no it’s not mock duck, but they have that as well if that’s your preference
Candace Kassow
Most authentic Chinese food in Minneapolis. Always busy but always prompt.
Dean Ehrenheim
Wanted to eat local in Minneapolis. Looked online for Chinese food in this had a high rating. The reading sad that the atmosphere was very basic, and it is. But who cares when the food is as good as it is! If you like Chinese food and you’re in the Minneapolis/st Paul area put this on your list of restaurants to try.
I ordered the potstickers (see picture) and Chicken Kung Pow. Both were amazing!
Van Ripster
One of my favorite seafood restaurants. My go to dish for shrimp that taste like shrimp is shrimp with vegetables fried noodles on last page of menu. All meals include hot tea.
Q V
This has been our favorite restaurant for over 20 years. Very friendly staff and great authentic Cantonese dishes. The quality has always been top notch.
Will Nisbet
Tink of all the possible indicators of a good restaurant of this nature, Shuang Cheng has it. Tons of awards on the walls, huge portions, an incomprehensibly large menu. This is the best spot to go if you are in need of some Chinese food. End of story.
nuggie Nguyen
Delicious food, everything about this place is AMAZING. Super nice waitresses, I very much recommend! 👍 …
Formalda Hyde
The best Chinese food in the Cities! Being from New York I can’t believe I finally found a New York style Chinese restaurant!!!
Matthew Samuelson
Everything was delicious. I would say one of the best in the Twin Cities!
Matt Bondroff
Best authentic Cantonese food you can find in the Twin Cities! It's been our go-to for more than 5 years and the owners are wonderful people! The salt & pepper squid, spicy eggplant and any other their greens are amazing.
Judy T
I like the lunch specials it’s a pretty good deal. I got the beef lomein and my boyfriend got the generals chicken. We both thought there was not enough flavor. It’s not bad though maybe we just need to try other specialty dishes or maybe there style. I’m not sure if we’ve just eaten many Chinese Lunch specials that were Americanized so that’s why the authentic ones don’t feel flavorful. I would come back to try other dishes and maybe it might be different.
Cassie Heyman
Sadly disappointed after buying one of the lunch specials. I got Kung Pao shrimp with the cream cheese puffs. The sauce was congealed and didn't taste right. Puffs were OK, but didn't come with sweet and sour sauce? It came with a lot of food, but very questionable flavor and quality. I was so excited to have found a cheap lunch spot in dinkytown, but this was not it. I may give another shot but I'm nervous to waste time and money again for food I may end up throwing away again. It's cheap for a lot of food and staff are kind, but that's the only positives based on my experience.
Holli Vining
We love this place and visit there nearly once a week. The staff is friendly and responsive. The food is delicious with excellent portion sizes. We cannot recommend this place enough!
Oscar Shulman
The sesame chicken is to die for! Granted there is a lot of breading but it absolutely is the best sesame chicken I have ever had and who doesn’t like fried breading? The price is good as well and the regular sesame chicken entree is a a huge portion! 100% recommend this place as well as the sesame chicken!
Holly Asbach
Shuang Cheng is undoubtedly one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Twin Cities. We always order the DELECTABLE cream cheese wontons (you get 8 wontons with an order) and then try different entrees. My favorite entrees are the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's Chicken. If I lived up in MSP, I would probably go here weekly (because it's THAT good)! Parking is difficult in Dinkytown and you will likely have to feed a meter.
Aryanna Albee
This was the first place I went after I found out I no longer have a severe allergy (or any allergy) to shrimp. I ordered my favorite meal, honey walnut shrimp, and lived up to all of my expectations! Amazing.
Daniel Chulla
The lunch special is great value. The food is all made in house. Its not your generic "chinese restaurant where all the menus match. This place is a real gem and highly recommended it to anyone that wants actual homemade sesame chicken, orange chicken, beef with broccoli and all your favorites. The menu is HUGE so if you want something more "authentic" this place has that to.
Kelly Russell
My wife and I love Shuang Cheng. Ever since we moved to the area 13 years ago, we've been going back on a regular basis. The food is always fresh tasting and consistently good every time we've been there. Right now they are right in the middle of a big remodel of their restaurant, and we can't wait for the time when we can go in and sit down and have a beautiful meal there again.
Inderjot Malik
Very affordable, great taste authentic chinese food
clarence montgomery
Truck driver from out of town here.
Their won ton soup is far superior than any one ive tried elsewhere, it’s beautifully made, and perfectly seasoned.
I tried the Kung Pao Beef, with rice, which was also delicious. It’s made with quality beef, and fresh veggies nice and hot.
I ordered 6 chicken wings and they were nice sized, and fried nicely.
They don’t skimp on the portions, I will definitely be visiting again when I’m in the city! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽!!!

When it comes to Cantonese food, Shuang Cheng has been a family favorite of ours since I was a child. While their menu also includes "American-Chinese" dishes like sesame chicken, General tzo's, etc... the real gems are a bit more tucked away and hidden. So let me illuminate them for you...
1) Stir-Fried Mustard Greens (the best vegetable accompaniment on the the menu, rivaled only by stir-fried Pea Tips, but those are often not in stock)
2) Roasted Pig - Classic Crispy, Chewy, Fatty, Juicy pork belly. No sauce, but absolutely perfectly seasoned every time.
3) Deep-Fried Whole Walleye in Hot Meat Sauce - Exactly what the title says. Order this one and a side of stir-fried mustard greens and you have an epic dinner for 2.
4) Steamed Whole Sole Fish in Ginger Scallion Sauce - An alternative fish dish to the walleye, this one is much lighter, and the shaved green onions and ginger that it's topped with add a perfected, refreshing crispy texture.
5) Crispy Garlic Soft-Shelled Crab - This one is seasonal, but if you like soft-shelled crab (and why wouldn't you), this dish will blow your MIND. Perfect with a bowl of steamed white rice.
kyle mai
The best Chinese food in town.
Tim Kwan
Outstanding service and quite good food. A group of friends and I went to this restaurant for the first time, as a lunch occasion. We ordered a variety of items, from vegetarian dishes to my shrimp paste pork hotpot. The food came out quickly as did the tea. The food itself was very good, I noticed some quite high quality roast pork in my hotpot and the flavours were very good. (I believe this place may be Chinese Vietnamese, based on what I tasted) Also, noteworthy was the sufficient amount of rice the staff provided us, which is getting rare these days. I must note the service was excellent, with staff quick to refill the tea, replenish the rice and providing take-out boxes without a grumble. I would suggest better cleaning for the lavatories, however. Overall, I would most certainly come to this restaurant again based on the food and good service.
Pawan Sharma
One of my most favorite Chinese restaurants in Dinky Town. Their Fried Walleye is excellent, any way you cut it! The staff may seem rude, but they are busy and are fairly direct, but polite. The quality of the food here is excellent; I've never walked away from this place thinking, "Now WHY did I order THAT?" It's a popular hangout for the uni students and for anyone who likes Chinese food.
The mark/quality of a good ethnic restaurant is the number of customers of that ethnicity at the restaurant - the more, the better - and Shuang Cheng does not disappoint!
Jenifer Berndt
Love that they had a stir fried beef and asparagus special! The asparagus was fresh and cooked just right, plenty of meat and asparagus on the plate! Down side was it was pricey-14.95-and very heavy on the ginger. I mean, I love fresh ginger, but some bites I could only taste ginger. There's a huge variety of seafood, service was great and very friendly. Sesame chicken was delicious!
Alexis J
Shuang Cheng never disappoints. My partner and I lived in Dinkytown for a while, and found this spot. We now live a good distance outside Minneapolis, but still will only ever order takeout here. Wait times have been longer because of the pandemic, but it’s honestly so worth waiting and extra 10-20 minutes for. Great food, college budget friendly.
Bramwell Brown
Their food is always amazing. The employees are nice, and they do take out.
Simon Phillip Harms
Wonderful Chinese food experience. The food was lovely, the service was very attentive and fast. Everything tasted and looked fresh too! Great value!
Drew Cove
Best Chinese restaurant on campus. Plenty of dishes that are great, they certainly have a lot for the price, not to mention the lunch special being fantastic. I'm not usually one for cream cheese wontons, but they're better here than any other Chinese restaurant I have been to.
Jonathan Gonzalez
Place was overall good. In my opinion it isn't the best Chinese food I've gotten. But definitely deserves the 5 due to the fast service and the food was good. But not amazing.
Sally Marciniak
I love eating at Shuang Cheng. The food is always good. There are so many choices. I love that they have lots of vegetarian options, as well as many meat, chicken and seafood dishes. They even have duck on the menu. The lunch specials are a really inexpensive way to eat. The service is good and fast, too. I have been a customer for over 10 years!
Steven Shaw
I've been coming here for almost 20 years. The staff is friendly, the menu is huge and the food is top notch! I can never get enough Sesame Chicken. Try it, you won't be sorry.
AaA
Very good sesame chicken fresh and crispy 10/10
Perlita Vindel-Calix
I'm not sure its worth all the hype it gets. Ordered a hefty to-go order of sesame chicken, beef chow fun, chicken fried rice, fried walleye, cream cheese wontons and egg rolls.
The food was greasy and hardly seasoned. Cream cheese wontons stayed crunchy, but were the same as most American-Chinese restaurants. Sesame chicken was one dimensional, beef chow fun was extraordinarily greasy, the fried walleye and rice was pretty decent, but overall... a lackluster experience.
Someday I may sit down and dine, once COVID is in the past. Perhaps our meal was the result of the rush of making meals on Chinese New Year. Unfortunately, I was disappointed this time around.
Terri Stanley
Not nearly enough stars. We eat here whenever we are in town. No one does fresher or more perfectly prepared seafood. Wait staff amazing. Value amazing. Best sesame shrimp, baked spicy squid, ginger scallion seafood, garlic fried fish, sole and asparagus or any other seafood menu item.
Matt Cohen
If you know what to order, this is some of the best Chinese restaurants in the Twin Cities. First, for lunch, try the Cantonese rice plates for filling, tasty awesomeness. The BBQ pork rice plate is off the hook delicious and includes a large amount of greens. Anytime, try the specials up on the board, especially the fish. They always serve up a nice hot cup of tea at no charge. The only reason my review is not five stars is that the menu is a mixed bag - mostly great, but some dishes that just "meet expectations".
Evan Russell
Really good Chinese food, been multiple times and haven't been let down yet. Staff is hospitable in a "fill your glass when it's halfway full/empty" kind of way. Good atmosphere, not too busy for a wait but a full diner. Get their beef and broccoli and their noodles. The ginger and garlic in the dish is superb and soaks into the leaves of the Chinese broccoli.
Oscar Morales
Came in earlier today for the first time. The service was fine nothing too outstanding, they did their jobs. The menu is HUGE, it was hard to decide what to order because everything sounded delicious and there was so much to choose. I ended up getting some pork fried rice and shrimp chow mein. The pork fried rice was very delicious and flavorful, the shrimp chow mein was very good too but I wish the shrimp was bigger and I wish they added more to the chow mein. I absolutely loved that they bring out some hot tea. Great food, huge portions and lots of variety for what you pay.
M@ Ott
Great food. Always ready quickly. can't wait for them to finish the remodel so I can dine in and have some of their delicious tea!
Renee Van Ryswyk
1st time here and we will be back! Service was excellent, and food was fresh, hot and delicious! 1 problem, so many great choices it was hard to choose (kidding). As I said we'll be back!
Julia P
There's a lot of seating, the food was good, and didn't take too long. We ate pork fried rice and general tso chicken. The presentation of the food was also nice very colorful (veggies) and they serve you hot tea at no cost.
Stephan Elze
Totally mediocre. While the setup and style resembles actual restaurants in Shanghai I have been to and even the listings on the menu are similar the food is not traditional Chinese. Sweet seasoning in all sauces we had, too greasy on meals that should not be, veggies too mushy or not mushy enough. The list is long. Price and quality seem appropriate though. Do not order the tofu - not at all like in China
Robert Wicks
I've been going here for 30 years or more. You have to know what to order. They're the best in town at what they do. Chicken tofu soup, Singapore rice noodles and steamed lobster and I'm in heaven!! Many other excellent items to choose from. I personally don't think that there's a better Chinese restaurant.
Jennifer Le
Been going here since I was little and I wouldn't change a thing. The food is great, the staff are wonderful, and I'm basically always craving their food!
My favorite dishes are the beef with dried orange peel and the sizzling beef with preserved vegetables!
Grace
Shuang Cheng has been my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities since I moved here in 2009. While the restaurant encompasses most of China's regional cuisines, I gravitate toward their "hot pot" dishes. These dishes are served in a (you guessed it) hot little iron/tin pot all sizzling and bubbling when placed in front of you. Flavors of these dishes vary greatly. (From the salty tang of the chicken with salt fish hotpot to the sweet and mild "East River Special," my favorite seafood, chicken, pork, and vegetable hot pot!)
If you're less adventurous, Shuang Cheng can provide your taste buds with the Americanized Chinese dishes of General Tso, beef and broccoli, and sweet and sour. I've had them all, and yes, they're perfectly delicious!
I've yet to have enough people to order such a treat, but their jumbo crab looks absolutely delicious, as do their whole roasted fish. They've got some lobster, too, if that tickles your fancy -- all market price.
All in all, this place is great. Their egg rolls are to die for, and I've actually considered stealing their containers of homemade roasted peppers in oil. (I tried buying some outright. They denied me but gave me ample takeout cups of it.)
Brave the college crowd and the cruddy parking to eat at this wonderful restaurant!
Rochelle Gonzalez
My husband and I chose to visit Shuang Cheng primarily due to the hundreds of Google reviews. I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu. The tea is brought to your table as is the water, immediately. Our food was brought out within less than ten minutes of placing our order. Our Server was a very friendly man, whom was very timely & observant. The restaurant was tidy and inviting. We were happy with the portion sizes as they are more than generous for the price. Will definitely be back!
Tim Moy
We've been going here for Xmas Eve for the last several years now. Used to be pretty easy to get a table but this place's popularity has sky rocketed.
Food is outstanding. However the concept of a reservation is lost when they are busy and service and food come to your table at a crawl. I think they are I'll prepared for crowds.
Matthew Gress
Been going there for 2[7] years. A friend took me there.
I admit, I am in a rut there. Usually the unbeatable Beef with Orange Peel or "whole dead fish on a plate" (as a friend calls it) with ginger scallion sauce, walleye if I can get it.
If you go there before ordering, always check out the grease-pencil board for specials and seafood. I just ate their wonderful Stir-Fried Seafood with Asparagus and it is great! Shrimp, squid, and scallops with only asparagus as a vegetable, unless you count real ginger slices in the light, delicious sauce.
This is not a cut and paste Chinese place you can likely get delivery from in your neighborhood. Some of those are passable, but nothing compared the real thing. Shuang-Cheng (Which means "Twin City" an actual place in China) has never natively delivered since they opened because they never have to.
Anne Clark
We JUST ordered from here for the first time … VERY impressed with the quality and flavor of the food, especially for the price! We’ll be back!
Data Wrangler
I usually order the chicken fried rice or chicken with vegetables and the flavors are divine as well as the amount you get. They definitely provide a good healthy sized serving! Not only that but it’s good for the price. The ONLY reason it doesn’t have 5 stars is because they tend to oversauce or overly oil their food and can get to be too much. If they found a way to balance how much sauce and oil there was in it I’d give them a 5.
Gary Cartagena
Really good tasting food.
You do miss some of the flavor and texture with take-out only. Crisp foods don't stay crisp, things get cold, etc. There is just a little of the experience and flavor missing.
But that is an unfortunate side effect of living in a Covid world right now.
Zach Geno
Very polite service from the staff. The lunch special was delicious and large quantities. Between 4 people it came to about $40 so it was also reasonably priced. The fortune cookies actually had fortunes, I don't know if that does anything for you but its a good touch in my book. Highly recommended.

The food was delicious. The waiter was really nice and came around multiple times to check in with us and refill water. I especially enjoyed the lobster ginger scallions. I would go back regularly for the yummy food!
Samantha Koshiol
Best lunch specials in Minneapolis! Less than $10 for a full entree with fried rice and cheese puffs or an egg roll. Super nice family run place that consistently pumps out quality food. Hidden gem defines this spot.
Melissa Riley
I'm from San Diego and in town for work. Shuang Cheng came up several times when I was looking for dinner recommendations. It certainly did not disappoint. I had the beef brisket hot pot with curry sauce and it was exactly what I needed after a long day. Full of tender brisket and bamboo shoots with great spices. Service was fast and helpful. I'm thinking of going back tomorrow night just so I can try something else.
Janda Saysamone
This restaurant was able to accommodate a party of 50 of us at last minute and allowed us to pay separate checks. The service was fast and outstanding. Food came out incredibly quick, was delicious and portions were generous. Their menu probably has the most options I've ever seen in a Chinese restaurant.
Santiago Reynal O'Connor
It's a hit and miss way to many selection to be fresh.
Jim Parker
Possibly the best Chinese restaurant in the state of Minnesota. If you can find parking, try to visit early on a Tuesday or Wednesday, so you don’t have to wait in line. Every item on the menu is delicious. Try ordering a mixed seafood dinner plate. Also, try the homemade fried chili in oil. It’s amazing.
Eric Mintalar
Great selection of dishes from vegetarian to seafood. They are usually busy but their service is good, nice selection of wines and beer. Dry fried garlic was just added a few months before and they are splendid, we ordered the Bok Choy, Singapore noodles, Dungenes Crab, dry fried garlic preparation .. they all were absolutely wonderful! We enjoy the authenticity and freshness of their dishes.
Amanda Müller
Nothing to criticize here. Their food is consistently good, and surprisingly fast. I also love how versatile this place is: you can go with colleagues, your partner, little kids, and you will always find lots of options, cheap prices, and good service. Although I also like Wally's and Blarney, Shuang Cheng is by far the most reliable and my favorite place in Dinkytown.
Tim Gisi
This is our go to for take out Chinese. Food is always fresh and hot. Taste is great. Prices are good too.
Bobby Cerza
Pretty decent Chinese food or at least for their lunch special. You're more paying for a good value then anything else. As a college student this place is a go to with a lunch special that nice although as a pro tip. Make sure to hit the special early so you can get the egg rolls while they are still hot.
Johnny P
There are some very good chinese restaurants in the twin cities, but Shuang Cheng is the best! You must try the 5 spice shrimp, crispy orange beef, or the crispy chicken. Honestly never had a bad experience in the 19 years I have been going there!
Julie Strothman
Super dope Chinese food in Dinkytown! Their lunch specials are an awesome value. Entree, chicken fried rice and 3 cream cheese wontons for 8 bucks! Great place for a quick lunch because you are seated quickly and the service is fast.
Tiffany Lee
These place never let me down. I eat it here since I was in college. The food is still the same and amazing service.
Emma Galligan
Ate here for the first time and I'm disappointed we didn't find this gem a long time ago! Food was hot, fresh, and tasty. The meat was very good, high quality. Vegetables were fresh. Egg rolls were amazing!!!
Leah Goldberg
I've been coming to Shuang Cheng since 1989. There is no other Chinese restaurant that comes close to this one. Delicious and good sized portions . I love the sesame chicken.
Pete Jacobson
Great food at a great price. I recommend ordering something you wouldn't normally find in a chain restaurant. Anything with black bean sauce is amazing and the Singapore rice noodles are incredible.
Ryan Kowlessar
One of our go to food stops when in MN. Delicious foods (seafood, curry, soups, garlic and black bean, etc)!and ample portions either for lunch or dinner. Food seems fresh and consistent. Never had a complaint for here and I ate here often while at the U. Staff is polite and friendly.
Meshach Weber
One of the first, quality Chinese restaurants in town and still a standout. Very good black bean sauce here. Chilean Sea Bass is very good. Orange beef is a very popular dish. Some of the best whole walleye (get it with their black bean sauce), live crab and live lobster (both amazing with ginger scallion sauce) in the cities. Some dishes are more average fare, but good ingredients and care put into food. The shrimp is always perfectly done. David, the owner os a friendly and personable fellow.
Patrick Hayes
I've been coming here for over a decade, and even while living in another part of the country, I always have made room on my visits back to the Twin Cities to eat here. Absolutely my favorite Chinese in the Twin Cities, bar none, and the best part is the prices are on the low end. College kids at the U of M are lucky as can be to have this right in Dinkytown.
The owner is often working right at the front desk, and is a lovely man. I'll proudly state I am a loyal customer, and as long as I am alive and Shuang Cheng is still open, I'll be a regular here.
Rick Kahn
Ordered to go on Christmas Day. Thanks to the incredibly hard-working staff, despite a ton of holiday business, the food was just outstanding, even memorably great. Definitely one of the restaurants worth supporting and helping to keep open in these shutdown times.
Jerad Starr
Rarely do I write reviews online, but this restaurant is excellent! I stumbled onto this place by accident and since I've routinely brought friends for their lunch specials. It's a hole-in-the-wall so don't expect too much on decor but the food is phenomenal and affordable. If you like wontons or eggrolls their deep-fry is the best I've had. Try the mock duck or the sweet & sour pork you won't be disappointed,
Emilee Wold
The BEST sesame chicken we have ever had- we drive back to Minneapolis often just for this! Also- get the beef with dried orange peel. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever had in the best way!
Maedelin Arbeiter
Absolutely LOVE this place. A phenomenal restaurant run by an amazing family! The staff are genuine and personable, I know I will always be met with a heartful smile. Would recommend this lovely establishment 1000 times over. And don't even get me started on the food!
Ryan Lutgen
Easily one of the best Chinese food restaurants around. My main complaint is that they get very overwhelmed when they are busy, specifically around the traditional lunch and dinner hours. I used to be able to predict when they'd be busy, but with all of the college apartments flooding the area, its getting harder and harder to predict the busy times. There are typically only two or three waiters/waitresses working the floor, so when every table/booth is full (roughly 30+ tables in the restaurant) it gets very hard for them to service everyone effectively.
If you don't mind going at off peak hours, then I recommend Shuang Cheng wholeheartedly. If you want to go during usual meal times, then hope the restaurant didn't just flood with tons of people who just placed their orders.
Mattie Hawley
I LOVE the food, but with COVID, and all food being takeout, they are not managing it well. They said 40 minutes, I showed up at 45 minutes, and they got me my food almost a full hour later. It was a disorganized mess. I felt so sorry for the ONE person who was collecting payments and expoing food.
Inga Schierkolk
Delicious Cantonese food, located in probably the cutest little section of dinkytown, and good service. It is a pay at the counter sort of place, I didn't really know that the first time I went and ended up kind of visiting with friends for a really long time before we figured it out. On the plus side, they won't kick you out I guess 😂 …
Tung Nguyen
I love the friendly staffs here! Excellent and authentic Chinese food!
Grey Boyce-Erickson
Always a great meal for the money! The cream cheese wontons are amazing, always freshly fried! I like the lunch specials, I usually get the General Tso with chicken friend rice. They bring you hot tea to sip while you decide what to order.
Jaime Alvarado
There 5 spice crab is my favorite. One of the best seafood places in the Twin cities. They have lobster and crab tanks. When you walk in you'll see so many awards that they've won and are well deserved. They're one of the twin cities best Chinese restaurants no question about it. If your from out of town this place is a must to experience true asian culinary at its best.
Jeff Chen
Even at times of covid this place still has outstanding Chinese seafood. Although it's still not as good as dining in, but still hits the mark! Deep fried walleye in meat sauce... So good.
Curt Anderson
I will go out of my way to eat here. Amazing food. One my my go to menu items is the sesame beef. This place does it right. I have only ever found one other place that makes this dish well. Parking can sometimes be an issue. It is very close to the U of M so the area can be very busy. Well worth going. I always get enough so I can take take home a meal or two worth of food.
Asim Musliar Akath
Tried Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings as appetizer. Best wings I had in a long time. Heard a lot of praise from my friend about their Fish Fillet in Curry Sauce. So tried it and I too loved it. Just the right amount of turmeric in their curry sauce.
Kim Kok Gan
The fried rice with beef and hot pepper is terrible. It was almost inedible to me. The beef brisket soup noodle is average, plain but not tasty. Overall I think the score of 4.4 is too high for them. It should be 3.0. One of the worst Chinese food I have eaten in US.
Kiki Snell
Got take-out. Pretty tasty sesame chicken. None of the pieces were soggy or had cartilage. The egg rolls were good and crispy. The egg drop soup was fishy like it's made with something seafood related so I didnt eat it :( I will definatly order from here again though!
Steven Meads
A staple of Dinkytown. This is probably the most consistent Chinese place in the cities. If you find a dish you like you always get what you expect when you return. Fast turnaround, great lunch specials, great neighborhood. If you work on campus you probably eat there once a month. There's lots going on in the neighborhood, a cool little cobbler across the hall, a bike store, a theater, and you're smack in the middle of campus. Eat some food and then take a walk down to the river you won't regret it.
Karen Wang
We came to try the three-course Peking duck. $44 for crispy Peking duck wraps, duck and mustard green soup, and stir-fried duck with vegetables. Needless to say, the two of us brought back a lot of leftovers. It was all delicious. I think it could've easily fed four. Comes with a huge bowl of rice to share. I wish the soup had rice noodles in it, the way my mom makes it, but the broth was delicious.
It does take 45 minutes to an hour for them to make the duck, but in my experience the wait is normal.
Jacob Hill
Delicious food at a great price, huge selection of food options. In town for a visit and worth the stop here for sure.
Kurt Guenther
I ordered Spicy Eggplant as it's a favorite of mine even though it usually comes slathered in a too sweet teriyaki sauce. To my surprise, this came with a sauce that had ginger and garlic. It was delightful. Not what I expected from a college eats location. Thank you!
Jody Stadler
Been coming here for years. Shuang Cheng has always been a delight in what is otherwise a pretty boring group of restaurants within walking distance of my office. The lunch specials are practically pocket change in terms of cost, and served up fast to a hungry group of University students and staff who are on a time crunch to get back to the office or to the next class. I recommend the chicken with hot pepper lunch dish, and always order an extra side of egg rolls.
Sami Q
Great Chinese food. The service is usually really good too, even though they don't have that many people working there--they are just very efficient. The price is good too (you get A LOT of food with each plate), especially their lunch specials!
Michael Gofman
This is by far the closest thing to the big Chinese restaurants in NYC's Chinatown. Perfect balance of American version of Chinese dishes and actual genuine things. Great place to visit with the kids as there are plenty of options for them as well.
Wish they had Dim Sum on Sunday mornings. It would definitely be a Twin Cities staple.
Patrick Kelly
They have a small bowl of spicy sauce made of peppers and oil on each table which is great but mine was burned so I grabbed one from another table but it was also burned. There are little tea cups on each table but mine had an old fortune stuck inside and some other debris. The egg rolls and pork egg foo young I had were mediocre but the server was very good so that's what keeps Shuang Cheng out of the 2 star or worse category. You can find significantly better Chinese within walking distance from here.
Heather Kremen
A casual Chinese restaurant that has delicious food! Their menu is extremely long so it is easy to find something for everyone. It's a great place to take a group of friends or family.
I have tried dozens of their dishes over the years and never found one I dislike. My latest meal was the plain sounding "Chicken and Vegetables." There was plenty of chicken and a wide range of perfectly cooked (al dante) vegetables in a flavorful brown/garlic sauce. It was labeled as spicy, but while I could taste the chili pepper it was by no means too spicy to eat, and I have a low spice tolerance. Some of my other favorites included their Mapo Tofu, the Honey Walnut Shrimp, Pork and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, and tgeir chicken and vegetable pan fried noodles. Tea and water are always provided with the meal.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the service is usually quick.
Allie Belle
Food is delicious, and their service is so nice I didn't want the egg roll included in my lunch special so they offered me extra fried rice which I want expecting. Will definitely be back.
Michael Vu
One of the oldest Chinese restaurants on campus. The food is tasty and comes out fairly quick. Try their garlic squid if you like something salty and their fried rice never dissapoints.
Lucie Mulligan
Great food and prices. Very nice staff. Only downside is sometimes timing of food coming out of the kitchen, but that's more understandable as they are super busy most of the time with dine in and take out orders.
Keely S
Decided to grab dinner here instead of going to a concert I had tickets for and I have no regrets. Excellent food and great atmosphere.
Kristi Sanek
The greatest food and dining experience, a bit on the pricey side but well worth it.
Eponine E
The food here is excellent. A star got taken away because the bathroom by the kitchen was absolutely disgusting, as in never cleaned! I could hardly breathe in there. I would definitely go again, just not use the bathroom.
Martin Nguyen
One of the top 3 Chinese restaurant in Minnesota for sure. I recommend anything in garlic sauce it's amazing. Also the beef in orange peel is really good and not something most people order.
Cheryl V
We take our out of town visitors here everytime. We love this place. Food always is fresh and a great price. At times you will have to wait as they sometimes only have 1 waiter. It shows you the peak times but it generally is always busy. We have never waited more then 5 mins for a table.
Harsh Parikh
Great food for a great price. Such a wide selection, even some foods for the picky younglings. Offers options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Additionally, one of the greatest desert menus of all-time!!
Lyle Wray
Great fast well made Chinese food for decades
LeeAnn Mateffy
I’ve been eating there since 1985 when I was in school at the University of Minnesota. The deep fried garlic green beans, Chinese broccoli, chicken black bean crispy noodles and crab asparagus soup are fabulous!
Grant Nelson
Always great Chinese food! We get take out from here all the time and are never disappointed!
Yakker
On the 4th of July when it was very busy the cook came out to tell me that he was an hour and a half behind and that he could only serve us a fried appetizer. The appetizers really really sucked. I went back another occasion and the food was alright. Don't write home to Grandma.
Christian Wilkie
Perfectly acceptable Chinese/Vietnamese food. The interior looks nice, like it would've been formal dining about 30 years ago. I've never had a bad dish here, but nothing really exceptional either.
Jay Kim
Same taste as my college years, 27 years ago. Fried walleye in hot meat sauce, stir fried oyster in black bean sauce, and 5 season black pepper squid is awesome.
Trish Deutsch
Nearly zero gluten free options. But the rest of my family loves the food. The roast duck fried rice is a favorite.
mark mckeever
I have been getting food from Shuang Cheng for over ten years and it is hands down the best Chinese food in Minnesota and maybe the world , and if you doubt me just ask Andrew Zimmerman and the other local chefs I see eating there and try it for yourself because I guarntee you will love it!
Kris K.
Decent Chinese food. Not the best I've ever had, but far from the worst.
Muamer Husnic
Always fun visiting here. Don’t complain about the price, because you get huge portions! I usually have enough food at the end of my meal to bring home.
Nivedha Manohar
The food is really good. I used to get take out - and they remember me by name and 'usuals'. Amazing customer service.
Thomas Jackson
Authentic, big menu, clean and quick.
Shanèe
Best Chinese and Cantonese food in Minneapolis! Parking can sometimes be a challenge and there are times when they are very busy, but the prices are low and the food is delicious. 5 Stars! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 …
Luke Liu
One of the places to go for Cantonese dishes around U of M East bank. Student friendly pricing for pretty authentic Canton dish. Good stuff.
Alaudin Cerimovic

david thao
Dishes average about 12$ and up, depending on how fancy you're tryna go. But the portions are BIG, and taste is definitely one of the best in the area.
Ryan Hanson
My mom showed me this place and I now try to swing through ever time I am in the cities. I have been to China and it is very good food that I would compare to some places I found in BeiJing. I love the authentic feel and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Eric Fritsche (Spyball Center)
It's the perfect place to eat some authentic Cantonese food at; a must eat!!!
Michael Coddington
Outstanding Chinese food experience. Definitely in my top 5 experiences. Fried fish in hot meat sauce was exceptional.
Jacob Anderson
The food is always great, and they've been busy everytime I've been there. The staff is helpful and friendly. I would Shuang Cheng recommend to anyone.
John O'Neill
This place has been a family favorite for many many years, in part for the excellent food and wonderful staff, and in part for the great memories that this place is the perfect place to make. Easily our favorite chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities.
SC Memken

Claver Williams

Theresa S
Best Chinese in Minneapolis in my opinion! Plentiful portions at a reasonable price. Love their lo mien and fried rice.
Doug Hyun
I was attracted by the hand written menus on the wall for lobster, crab and fish dishes. I'm still thinking about incredible pork lo mein. It tasted the way I can't even find in Los Angeles. And cheap.
Vasathayi Yang
Came here with my buddies on the UofM trip. Out of all the restaurants we picked this one and I do not regret it. The Banh mi's here are my favorite, I get them every time
Souk Her
Love it. I've been coming here for over 15 years and this isn't your cheap washed out chinese food. This is one of two locations in the twin cities that I would suggest to family.

Great value for lunch

Best authentic restaurant in Minneapolis in my opinion. Every dish has its own taste personality and you don’t come away with the feeling that all you ate was salt.
Adam Ford
Good Chinese food tucked in Dinkytown. Fair prices for what you get and attentive staff. They were helpful and accommodating to our group of 11. Great place!
Melissa Fry Beasley
Excellent service, exceptional food. Great experience here. Cannot wait for a return visit.

The food is pretty good, and you get a good amount for the price. The hours are also a plus, open much later than other restaurants. I was a big fan of the customer service, and food comes pretty fast if you walk in.
Cua Mai
Loved their food! Definitely coming back for sure! I don't have any photos to share because I ate the food right away when I was served.
Emerald Frog

Zach H
Everybody loves orange chicken, and this place had the best orange chicken I’ve ever had. I have many friends that like this place too.
Liz Johnson
I usually don't eat in at Shueng Cheng's so I'm not certain on their service in that capacity, I usually get take out. Though they always sound like they're super busy and in a rush they always get my order correct, on time, and very delicious!
Mikkel Folting
The chicken chow mein was delicious! I will definitely get takeout from here again some time soon.
Sherry Zimmermann
We all enjoyed our meals. The service was great!

Service is alright. But hey I was there for the food.
Forrest Rhoads
Take out only at the moment, but still the same generous portions and high quality that I have come to know over twenty years

Literally been coming here for 25 years. Absolutely love this place!! My great grandpa brought me here when I was a child and now I bring my children here!!
Mark Zhong
The fry lobster is really nice, generally good seafood, but we had one dish mushroom with vegetable & bamboo isn't very good. But highly still recommend
Annika Kohrt
Great lunch special -- though there was unexpected chicken in my sesame tofu dish (kind of a bummer for this vegetarian -- could be more of a bummer for stricter vegetarians)
Patrick Hammond
Good size portions. Ordered the peking duck and it was tasty but underwhelmed that they used totillas as the pancakes.
