Some of the best food I've had in a long time. I've heard* that the recipes are concocted from the owner, which adds a great personal touch (*verified from a friend who has met her). The cream cheese wontons were perfectly tiny and amazing. The honey walnut shrimp was stellar--I went back for more (well, more of that AND the peanut noodles!!). I guess they're doing takeout only in these pandemic times, but certainly haven't skimped on product or service.

Perfect! I had the Walnut Shrimp (came with just the right amount of sauce but it was so good I’ll probably order extra next time) and the Green Beans. HOWEVER! Most amazing part was the habanero pineapple sauce coupled with each of the things I had it elevated the meal wonderfully. For an extra two dollars to have a hand made delicious sauce, completely worth it! Wouldn’t mind being able to buy that as a stand alone jar!

Best Chinese in the Twin Cities. Traditional favorites made lighter and healthier. Tammy Wong is a pioneer in sourcing fresh produce from local markets, pan-Asian cuisine with innovative dishes and addictive sauces. My favorites: Big Bowl wonton noodle soup, the irresistible turnip cake, and green beans. Everyone's favorite: sesame noodles, cold or hot. We look forward to the re-opening of the dining room to enjoy creative cocktails and the Koi tank. Tammy has done away with tips, and compensates all of her employees fairly with a reasonable check add-on. She is hands-on, does her own cooking, is present with her staff and customers. Whatever your Chinese favorite, try Tammy's version and you will be delighted.

Our son used to eat here with friends and rave about the food, especially the five-spice chicken wings, bacon fried rice and chicken in black bean sauce. With his endorsement, we picked up take-out tonight and the food exceeded our expectations. It was fabulous.

I've been itching to try this place and tonight I stopped by with my sister on a whim. Arrived at 5pm and things were just picking up. By 5:30 the place was packed! We were blown away by the amazing interior. Beautiful decor, cozy atmosphere, and a gorgeous fish tank. The staff was professional. The veggie dumplings were addicting. We tried two different big soup bowls (Chicken & Kale and Vegetable Mai Fun) - refreshing, delicious, and healthy. We also shared a pot of Evening in Missoula tea. We are definitely going back!

Pickup order was very fast and it looked cute inside. By the time I got home one of my to-go ramekins of sauce opened and spilled all over my boxes. The sesame chicken was pretty disappointing, very little flavor.

The best takeout I’ve had in a while! Every dish we ordered was excellent. The honey walnut shrimp was one of my favorites. Also enjoyed the sesame noodles, Chinese broccoli, and sesame tofu cilantro salad. Can’t wait to go back and try some more!

Probably the best take out I've had in the neighborhood so far! We had 1.) Singapore noodles, good sized shrimp and good bites of char siu(?) pork. seasoned well but lightly so you're able to eat a lot of it 2.) 5 spice calamari, came seasoned BEAUTIFULLY with lots of garlic ginger and green onions to compliment 3.) cream cheese wontons with what I believe is a homemade sweet n sour sauce. I'd also like to add we asked for chili oil on the side and I also want to believe its home made, it was yummy and complemented the flavors of the dishes we had well. Would recommend this spot for take out. Ordering online was easy to navigate.

A staple for Chinese cuisine in Minneapolis. This is not your 100 item folded paper menu Chinese place. This is real chef driven cuisine prepared with care. Beautiful space with a small amount of bar seating along with dining room.

I love this place! I order from Rainbow at least once each time in back in Minneapolis visiting. Everything I’ve tried is delicious, but now that I have my favorites, I tend to stick to those. They have the best cream cheese wontons I’ve ever had, with the perfect amount of cream cheese to wonton ratio. None of that gross imitation crab (I’m not sure why anyone likes that in their wontons). I also love the Sesame noodles. I’ve tried to find something similar/comparable at other restaurants and haven’t had any luck. I’m so happy this place is surviving the pandemic! If you haven’t been here yet, go! You won’t regret it!

We got takeout from here for the first time tonight and we will definitely be back!! My favorite hands down was the honey walnut shrimp. So good! We also got the broccoli beef - the broccoli was very fresh tasting which I appreciated. The cream cheese wontons were great as well. Thanks for a great meal, Rainbow!

Those wantons, those egg rolls! Soo good. Best in town. I also am in love with the crispy tiger beef. After that I try and order some other thing I haven't tried yet. Can NOT find anything other than delishiousness. Also take out is ready very quickly. 15mins - consistently. Lastly - I fully support these guys adding a service charge to pay their employees fairly!

The crispy tiger beef was outstanding. But the general tso's chicken was inedible, with a really strange and off-putting flavor coming from the chicken -- the breading, or what it was fried in, perhaps? Huge waste of food and money when half your order goes in the compost

Stopped by for lunch on my own. Sat at the bar and had the house old fashioned. The whiskey was good. A little sweet, even for this queer, who grew up in Wisconsin drinking Brandy sweet old fashioneds. Bartender was very friendly. I ordered the Pineapple & Basil Chicken. It was awesome! The chicken was lightly fried in a brown sauce with lots of basil, red and green peppers, and onions. Ce with a small side of white rice. Rainbow would be a fun place for happy hour, or for a group gathering. I'm considering making Rainbow my spot for my birthday dinner this year. I'll be back for sure!

We had the pleasure of meeting Tammy who cooked & waited on us. Awesome egg rolls and pot stickers. These are some of the best I've ever had! We also split a wonderful shrimp curry dish and beef dish. Sweet service and excellent food!! We will be back!!

Amazing food every time. Chef Tammy Wong has this place dialed in. We had a large group of 14 and not one person had any complaints, and that’s saying something. I go out of my way to dine here any chance I can. The egg rolls are the best I have ever had. The Lo Mien and Fried Rice are delicious. The Honey Walnut Shrimp will blow your mind! Seriously enjoy this place, you won’t find one like it just anywhere!!

Ordered the beef broccoli and it was incredible! Devoured it immediately. The veg tasted so fresh, the filet was perfectly done and the sauce brought it all together. Rainbow does it so well! Can’t wait until we can dine inside again, as it’s so cute and great ambience!

Really cool place. Good food made with a lot of care. The menu is really diverse and I've never had anything I didn't love. Great for sharing dishes with lots of friends. The new remodel has a nice atmosphere and cozy feel. Definitely a fine dining experience. Also the bartender is one of the best in the city. He can make pretty amazing drinks that rival any of the so called fancy bars like marvel and what not. A really cool guy too. Just tell him your favorite liquor and he'll do something for you.

Fantastic food! I've been going there for years. They have recently updated their menu for the better. Decent wine. Loon juice on tap. The service is usually fantastic, we had a new waitress in her first day. She didn't have everything memorized like usual, she was friendly and tried hard. Try the flat rice noodles in black bean sauce

good food and quick and friendly service. price: average of about $12 per dish (plenty of cheaper options tho) wait time: super quick. our food was out in less than 15 minutes and we ordered 5 plates. Adam was our server and was always very friendly and ready to go. He came back multiple times to check on drinks and to remove plates. nice atmosphere with cool decorations and alternative music. would recommend. went with my parents and brother for his birthday and everyone loved it. my personal favorites: chicken fried rice and chicken lo mein.

Hands down the best food in town! I have been coming here since I was a kid and always remember eating there wonton noodle soup with my grandpa. Now I bring my kids in at least 3 times a month because we love everything about this restaurant, the food, the owner Tammy is such an amazing lady and the staff as well. Highly recommended the Rice Cake dish, no one in Minnesota makes it!

Some of the best Chinese food I have ever had! Build your own soup if one of my favorites and enough food for 2 meals as well as the gluten free calamari that melts in your mouth. For even more flavor try it with a side of sweet and sour sauce. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and don't be surprised if Tammy, the owner, pays your table a visit to make sure that you are having a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this restaurant!!

I love this place. Their food is the best Chinese food I’ve had and They go above and beyond for their customers. Tonight, my pork fried rice was missing from my delivery order and when I contacted them about it they went above and beyond to make sure I got my order of pork fried rice! When they were slammed with other orders they attempted to send my rice to me in an Uber and when that Uber driver didn’t show up with my food they made me a fresh batch and sent it to me with a different Uber and called me when he arrived at my door. The rice was still warm and so delicious. You all MUST order their food. They are wonderful and they care about their customers!

I've never come across another Chinese restaurant I recommend more. The egg rolls are a must have to start, but order several dishes and share them. This is one of those places you should try everything, but everything is great. Quiet atmosphere, great staff, and wonderful food.

I've been going to Rainbow since they were located across the street in the plaza. Always had great food and great service. Lately I've been doing a lot of take out with them and was happy to see they were doing curbside pick up during the Co-Vid pandemic. Order on line with a time for pick up, drive up and wait. They have a small table set up on the sidewalk and when your food is ready someone comes out and calls your name and places your take out on the table and back inside they go. I've been addicted to the Szechuan Wontons for years and would give good money for the recipe (hello, anyone listening?? :) )

Rainbow Chinese Restaurant and Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in Minneapolis and their dishes are refined and delicious. The place is not too crowded or loud as some Chinese restaurants can be, this one has more class, with beautiful interior decorations too. The staff is always fast and attentive, and we have a great time whenever I come with my friends.

Rainbow is hands down the greatest Chinese Restaurant I have ever been to. Every time I have been, I've been greeted with nothing less than excellent service. The servers are extremely friendly and the food is to die for. I thought I knew Chinese food before, but when I tried Rainbow I knew it was just the beginning. The drinks are all creative and original, not to mention delicious. The dishes take my taste buds on adventures to unexplored lands of flavor and deliciousness. Just the eggrolls alone make me want to cry tears of joy as if I just witnessed the birth of my first child. My review may seem over the top but that's what this restaurant means to me. It provides so much more variety than your other American Chinese restaurants that can be found all throughout Mpls, and does not disappoint. A favorite dish of mine that I'd recommend every time is the Chicken Black bean with Fun noodles.

The Wonton Soup is not authentic and tasted quite bland. Being a Hong Kong person, I have had many better bowls of this soup at a fraction of the cost. Also, there was an error with the billing that was a hassle to resolve and the waiter was not particularly friendly. However, the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, with a unique atmosphere.

The food is top tier in regards to the multitude of other chinese cuisine in the area, the honey walnut shrimp was delicious as well as the kung pao and the Hong Kong chicken and black bean noodles, I didnt realize those noodles would be so small and crispy but it was a good surprise! The egg rolls are gigantic and delicious, but didn't get a dipping sauce for the cream cheese wontons. Staff was friendly and the food was hot and quick. Gonna come back for the gai pan & beef for sure!

Every time I come here I remember why this is the only Chinese restaurant I frequent. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees between two people: the egg rolls, Szechuan wontons, cilantro and hot pepper pork,and beef and gailan Hong Kong noodles. Everything was amazing. The spice levels were perfect. Our server, Heidi, was charming helpful and gracious all night. Our food was so good, in fact, that we ordered some to go on our way out.

We have liked Rainbow Chinese for a long time. It became a family ritual when we had Season tickets to the nearby Children's theater. Now we go less often, but did go yesterday for Chinese New Year. Rainbow had dragon dancers, great fun, great food. We went with a group of 10 adults and had a good family gathering that everyone enjoyed.

I have been here many times but have never been disappointed with my experience. To sum it up: Delicious, fast service and a great atmosphere. parking lot is a bit small but I would literally park a mile away and walk if I had to. It's that good.

I have FINALLY branched out from my usual (sesame noodles and chicken fried rice) and I've tried almost everything on the menu at least once now, and nothing disappoints! Turnip cake! (Nowhere else have I been served this.) Tammy Wong's egg rolls are no less than exquisite! Wonton soup is a must! I like Walnut Honey shrimp, but Tammy scowls at me when I order it because it's ... (probably not good for my waist line). My partner inevitably orders Summer Satay, which is great as boxed-up for breakfast, cold. Mama Wong is also my most beloved because she's so wise and genuine. Tammy Wong is the best chef in Minneapolis, and doesn't need the James Beard award to document her sense of excellent cuisine.

Tasty food and yummy cocktails. A variety of flavors. Each dish was uniquely flavorful. The cocktails were potent. I'm a little tipsy as I'm writing this. One of the cocktails has ginger in it and it's zippy. The sangria was a disappointment, like they made it with cranberry juice, so that was weird, but it was only one of the cocktails and the rest made my brain happy.

Take Out: 5/17/2016 @ 6:01 p.m. I called and had a giant serving of piping hot deliciousness on my table in 24 minutes! Very good experience tonight 3/18/16. The only time I've had a mediocre visit to Rainbow was when the kitchen got bogged down with a constant stream of Bite Squad orders. We ordered the egg rolls and cream cheese wontons which are perfect together. Ask for a little spicy condiment rack and you have a nice heat with the egg rolls and a sweet counter with the wontons. For entrees we chose Chicken with black bean sauce Hong Kong style noodles and Honey Walnut Shrimp. Both were delicious and provided for plenty of leftovers.

Food was lukewarm when it came to the table. When we asked for it to be reheated, the server responded as if it was an unreasonable request. Food tasted ok, though the seasoning was not what I would call subtle. Went after the Children's Theatre, looking for a fun restaurant to make a tradition, but it won't be this one, I'm sorry to say.

This a delightful place for a bargain lunch. Combination plates including soup ar about $8-11. The egg rolls are large enough to accommodate the egg rolls from other restos inside them. We share one order of egg rolls and a combo platter for lunch. Not much more than a fast food chain.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities. Go with a group and get several dishes to share; you'll want to try them all. Only problem with Rainbow is they dont have a ton of vegetarian options.

I live in San Francisco and I know real Chinse food. When I visit Minneapolis I do on occasion dine here. I would say it is not exactly Chinese but it does come close to what I can experience in San Francisco where there is a Chinese restaurant on almost every corner.

Best cantonese chinese in the TC. A shame they arent able to be back to there former ways pre-covid, but Ill always support them! Prawns in red curry, pork fried rice, singapore chow mai fun, and szechuan wontons or anything in that black bean sauce are my absolute favs!
