Reviews of Petite León
Matt C
Excellent - the food is very well thought out. The flavors are there, each dish we ordered was perfect. We had two starters the peppers (which were divine) and bison tartare (nothing simple here, each bite was a flavor bomb). The carne asada was cooked perfectly - amazing char with mid rare center, only thing is we felt it needed something more (alone on the plate). The pork was also excellent - melted in the mouth, tender, and blended well with its accompaniments. The star for me was the Arctic char - perfect seer on the skin, the fish was moist and flavorful - not overdone. The broth, corn, avocado, and radish were fresh and flavorful while rounding out the dish. Lastly, the service was excellent, very friendly and attentive.

Wasn't a big fan personally
Came for a reservation and waited in line. Waitress watches as 2 groups of old people cut in front of us and took over 15 minutes getting them seated before finally getting back to us.
Favorite food item was definitely the Al pastor tacos! Was very good would recommend!
The rest I can't say the same. Especially the fries were just bad. Very soggy with their "tumeric aoli" which was just mustard.
The pasta ravioli thing I had was fine. It was filled with a paste that everyone at the table couldn't really taste as the sauce completely overpowered the rest. Wasn't bad, but I could have made pasta with red sauce.

I've been dying to try the burger here and it did not disappoint!
We started with scallops as an appetizer and those were simply delicious, the yuzu blended sauce they are served over is so so good!
We ordered a lot of food for our main course... I got the burger and the beets (beets are a main dish, not a side), my husband ordered the steak bavette and frites.
The burger was great, crispy edges, melty cheese, perfect onions, yum! The beets, to my surprise, were served cold, but still a very delicious dish. I definitely didn't need both full size plates, but I wasn't in the mood for fries and the burger is serves as just a burger.
The steak bavette was very good, crispy crust, smoky flavors, served with avocado and a roasted jalapeno. Fries were perfect and crispy!
Decaf coffee is served in a french press, so that's always fun. I ordered a NA mocktail with a CBD boost, all were good!

We had a great dinner at Petite Leon, the new restaurant from chef Jorge Guzman on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. His food is complex and quite amazing.
We started with cocktails. They are unusual and inventive. I had one with pisco, the South American brandy, combined with grapefruit, dragon fruit, and lemon. My husband had the cocktail with tequila, orange, lime, and avocado. Both were balanced and very nice indeed.
For a first course I had their special, which was a raw tuna tostada served with melon. Perfect for a summer evening. My husband had the mussels, which were perfectly cooked and served with a complex broth and 2 thick slices of bread to sop it up!
For the main course, the carne asada was actually a perfectly cooked steak topped with a chermoula sauce . My al pastor was a tender and delicious roasted pork served with smoked pineapple and onion with warm corn tortillas.
Their cheesecake was scrumptious, creamy and smooth. I was not a fan of the arrow con leche, however. It was not sweet enough for my taste.
The service is impeccable and there is free on street parking.
All in all, wonderfully unique food in a warm secluded booth setting. Be forewarned; the food can be very spicy.

I was really excited to try this joint. Some really great things, some things were alright. The service was fantastic and the vibe is calm and cozy- which I really enjoyed.
Food review:
Piquillo Peppers- absolutely delightful. Wish we would have gotten 2 orders- they were that good. Contemplated getting another round for dessert even.
Market Oysters- loved the pineapple hot sauce they served with them. The best type of heat, wanted to bring some home.
Salmon Rillette- it was good, but I wouldn't get it again. There was an element missing and really missing the smoke flavor for my taste.
Roasted Beets- so incredibly underwhelming. We were really looking forward to see how beets and pilpelchuma come together. The lack of flavor was a huge disappointment.
Caesar Salad- I found this classic salad to be fabulous. The dressing was perfectly executed, excellently dressed with a blanket of goods on top. Will absolutely be back for this again, and the peppers of course.
The Burger- definitely not my favorite. I think we may have came on a bad night. I kept biting into burnt onions, which was all I could taste. The burger itself was super dry. Love the pickles and bun!
Frites- I mean seriously... other restaurants need to take note on how to serve a proper side of aioli, because here they do it right! You get a massive side of it and I was living for it.
Will be back no doubt! Hopefully for the Wedge salad next time!

Our dinner at Petite Leon last weekend was absolutely brilliant. Every course was memorable, so elegant and refined yet approachable. The mussels were so good, I unabashedly drank the entirety of the broth. The lamb birria was absolutely delightful, cooked to perfection.

We came for our anniversary and had a fantastic time! Service was great, drinks were all delicious, and food too! The gnudi was one of the best dishes I've had in a long time! And the cheesecake was incredible, too.

Some interesting things happening here. This is definitely the place to try if you would like some unexpected flavors.
Plating was excellent.
Ambience and overall quality was excellent.
They could benefit from some more gin options, as the ones present were somewhat limited and non-floral.
Great wait staff! Table was comfortable, even though it was directly next to a huge window, which was awesome.

Had a seat at the bar due to limited availability and it did not disappoint! The Yellowjacket special with the Modelo and a shot of Mezcal is a great deal. Wedge - Awesome. Burger - disgusting in a good way. Fries- crisp and delicious.

A great experience overall. The food was crazy good. Those Piquillo peppers were shockingly good, like I had no idea how tasty a pepper stuffed with goat cheese could actually get! The fresh oysters, delicious, the Bavette Steak blew my mind. The mix of flavors with the jalapeños, garlic, and chermoula is brilliant! Service was top notch as expected.
Wait, one more thing…. The mini smash burger? OMG. Yes!!!
Han Kim
Fabulous meal! The steak Bavette was unbelievably good. Lamb meatballs, roasted beets, and watermelon sorbet (creamy due to the liquid nitrogen freezing) just wonderful! Gluten free / dairy free for us too! So good.

What a phenomenal dining experience! The flavors in every bite were like a warm hug. The service was top tier and our server Sam was so knowledgeable and helpful in steering us to all the best bites and beverages. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish so I’ll highlight the favorites. The lamb meatballs in salsa barbacoa made us want to lick the bowl clean. Seriously, that salsa barbacoa should be bottled so I can put it on everything! The piquillo peppers were *divine*. The peppers were so tender and the goat cheese so flavorful; every bite just melted in our mouths. The broccolini with mole verde was so surprising; that mole verde is a star! The crisp broccolini paired with the bright pistachio dukkah was a hit! The duck was my absolute favorite. The rich mole poblano made every bite feel like I was celebrating a holiday. I would eat that duck every day if I could. We finished the meal with the tarta de queso and it was divine; so creamy, smooth, sweet yet savory. Just pure perfection.
We also enjoyed several cocktails throughout the evening including the Strawberry Calpirinha (which I am obsessed with), the Brawndo, and the Moon Dog; all of which were original and note perfect.
Overall this dining experience rates as one of the best we’ve ever had. I only wish we lived locally so I could enjoy Petite León on a weekly basis. Truly delightful from start to finish!

The food was FANTASTIC. Service was great. But it is PRICY - the bill went way above what we anticipated for what we got. But the quality of food and flavors made it worth it for this "treat". Fantastic choice for a spendy date night - the atmosphere is very cozy and "date nighty"
Piquillo Peppers - 5 STARS!
Duck Confit - I've had better mole but this was a great duck confit taco!
Arroz con Leche - fantastic flavor combination. The cheesecake was recommended but this was a sleeper especially if you like coconut and pistachios!
David Trinh
Overall found this place to be a little disappointing. Not offensively bad or anything but wouldn’t seek it out again at all.
Drinks were a mixed bag. Manhattan was way way too sweet and made with very low quality whiskey. Other drinks better but for a cocktail focused place that first drink was pretty bad.
Food was fine, not exceptional. Al pastor (supposed to be a favorite) was good but incredibly fatty cut of pork.
Not sure about having the mandatory 20% service charge plus telling people they should tip at least 10-15% in addition. If you want to make the service fee 35% that’s totally fine. But just disclose that upfront. I think most people walking into a restaurant are going to assume a 20% service charge means gratuity is included.
Much better other options in Minneapolis than this IMO.

The vibe here is so lovely and refreshing. The ambiance is very cozy and the menu is thought out and non-pretentious. Definitely small plates done right! And as a huge mezcal fan, I was jazzed to see all the mezcal-based cocktails for the summer menu.
Carlus Dingfelder
My wife and I had reservations for our wedding anniversary on a beautiful late summer night. We were sweetly offered two glasses of bubbly in celebration as we waited for our seats at the bar. The bar was a great, lively place to sit and we got to engage with the bartenders throughout the evening. And the cocktails were wonderful. We mixed and matched apps and entrees for a very memorable dinner. And we highly, highly recommend the Basque style cheesecake for dessert; it is a standout on the menu!
Chase Nelson
I still don't know much about Petite Leon and I ate there, if that tells you anything. The cuisine is tough to place, using aspects of many cultures in their dishes. However, every single thing I ate was delicious and I ordered most of the menu.
Although I no longer live in the North this is still my home. I'm proud to tell people about places like this because it shows the versatility of our region's food culture.
If you haven't been here yet you should make a reservation.
Andrea Kiepe
Perhaps it was an off night? Despite raves from friends I found it deafeningly loud, overpriced and overrated. Very uneven with the cauliflower excellent and the beets almost inedible. Steak was tiny (served with an absurdly huge pepper garnish) and totally flavorless, though the sauce was great. Stuffed peppers were very basic and ridiculously overpriced. Cheeseburger was solidly delicious. Seasoning was all over the place. Cheesecake was incredibly bland, like eating plain cream cheese, yet the beets were doused in cumin. Service was very speedy and polite. Atmosphere was very very dark, but otherwise pleasant.
Cole Aden
Excellent dinner last night and great service. Highly recommend the goat cheese stuffed peppers and the Pescado Frito

Came to Petite León for my birthday celebration on a Friday evening. Had a blast with the dishes and drink we ordered. Before going further I want to highly recommend to keep room for the Tarta de Queso. It’s a basque-style cheesecake with sesame-vanilla wafer crumble. Every bite of that cheesecake was absolutely delicious. Shared some dishes with my friend, chips and dip were different in a good way. Pan con tomate was beyond fancy version of bruschetta with perfect heirloom tomatoes. This restaurant is more of an experience than going out for food.
Mo Sheik
Awesome dinner experience! Food was amazing especially the burger. Staff was friendly and the service was excellent! Check them out next time you’re in Minneapolis!
Natalie Davis
Amazing amazing experience. Our server, Frannie was the perfect mix of respectful, social, and intuitive! Definitely read the needs of the table. She made the experience! The food…wow! Bursts of fun flavor profiles. Wonderful, keep working your art and making that magic. Thank you!
Taha
Very yummy food. The burger is delicious and should be its own entree in my opinion. Go early if you want the Pan Au Chocolate because they do run out!
Lauren Mau
Finally got to try this place out and it didn’t disappoint! The drinks were great (especially loved the pisco cocktail) and the food was excellent and well-coursed for us. Our server was attentive but not overbearing and the ambiance was warm and inviting. The piri-piri chicken and the mussels were both amazing and pretty large portion sizes!
Nick W
Great restaurant! I’m not sure why there are so many reviewers who have not had fun here. I think some people are showing up with preconceived ideas about Petite León just because the name is French. We love this place!
1. Come with a friend or two
2. Share everything
3. Enjoy the delicious & interesting cocktails
4. Soak in the vibe
Repeat visits were just as fun as the first time. Will absolutely be back.
Gaby Schwob (Foodie Delish MN)
We had a fantastic dinner. We were 6 and order a ton of dishes to share. Our favorite were the tuna tartar , piquillos, mussels, pollo al carbon and OMG the fries.
Leah Kippes
Our meal here was life altering and I’m not even kidding. The stuffed peppers, the salad, the BURGER…oh my. And the cocktails-to die for. The service is fantastic-efficient and professional. All in all one of our best meals ever! Keep it up Petite León!
Ali Gaffey
Excellent food. Great service. Cozy atmosphere. Every dish was flavorful and expertly prepared. Highly recommend. Make reservations in advance to ensure a table. I was initially on the waitlist and thankfully moved off to dine on a Tuesday evening.
Paola OC
A MA ZING! We are huge fan of the Pollo Bomba Torta (we always had it for takeout and hope it comes back) and since the restaurant open for dine it was on the list to come and try the other amazing food. The mussels and the pollo where our favorites! And the cocktails were also great! We wished we were able to try the Torta de Queso (but the kitchen was already closed) our server advised us to order all food at the same time but didn’t comment on the dessert and we didn’t thought we had to ordered in advance. We will have to go back.
David Kasyanyuk
100th review! So thrilled to finally be able to dine in here - love the team behind Petit Leon and the Yucatan-inspired flavors they dish out. Will definitely be back again and again!
Katherine Mumm
Delicious! This place is such a gem. Favorite dish of the night was the bison tartare, but that pan con tomate was a close second. Incredible flavors in every dish - my husband and I loved how every dish surprised us in the best way. Super friendly staff as well, even during a busy dinner service.
Zach H
Been multiple times and service is always top notch and food is awesome. Our favorite spot in Minneapolis. Great for a date night, we like to get a a bunch of plates and share, but just as good for a casual night with friends.
V W
My husband and I were excited to try a new place and heard great things. We were a bit disappointed with the service. Our server was not so great and very forgetful. The food was good, but nothing amazing. Spending over 150, we expected more. The drinks were just so so. Just nothing special. Not worth the drive for us.
Justin Wall
Not an experience easily forgotten! These guys have a cocktail and dinner menu with plenty of options. The pollo Al carbon was a favorite at our table as well as the tumeric aoili and fries.
Jillian Kratt
Went for dinner and cocktails before a show and it was AMAZING! Our server, Sara, was outstanding, and the owner Jorgè is delightful. Every dish was melt in your mouth delicious! We will be back!

If Petite Leon isn't on the top of your list, it should be! The entire experience was top notch. Cozy, chic atmosphere, warm greetings from staff, beautiful food made with love and intention, and fresh, bright cocktails. Must haves: the steak, the chicken, the grilled artichokes and the Verde cocktail.
Christina Dean
Had so much fun sitting at the bar and having the amazing dan serve us. Sad that we didn't know about the dishes we got with cilantro. Wish it was listed because it destroyed the dish for my spouse. Cheesecake was beyond amazing. Wish the rest was the same. Dan was remarkable though
Joseph Nowariak
It’s been a while since my visit but remember the meal quite well. We arrived early in the evening while the restaurant was relatively empty and the staff had the perfect level of casualness to make us feel at home, it was the kind of service that makes elegant food more accessible to those not used to more serious restaurants. I remember 2 dishes in particular.
The first was a cauliflower dish with queso. It was a perfect blend of growing up in MN being coaxed into eating your veggies by covering it in cheese sauce and loving Mexican flavor from all of the Tex-Max we have. Even if it was a bit heavy and clunky, it was super memorable in a good way. The other dish was duck breast and mole. Well rendered duck, check. Complex mole, check. Just a fantastic combo and great execution.
I live in D.C. and am always amazed at how much better the Mexican food is in MN. Petit Leon is at the top of my list in MSP, looking forward to making another trip to the restaurant when I’m back home.
Erin Waite
I love this place! Everything is perfect from the extensive well thought out wine list to the exceptional cocktails, unforgettable food, and beyond.. Definitely try the toast, char, and cheesecake. I feel like y’all will be seeing me here alot, maybe even 4x a week.. can’t get enough!
Avneet Hall
Food was delicious! Great ambience and service also. I loved the lamb tacos and the piri piri chicken was my fav.
Ryan Blum
Everything was exceptional the food, service, and cocktails were all top notch. The burger is a must! Can't wait to come back and try it again!
Ryan Stringer
All of the dishes and cocktails were great, but what surprised us the most was the french fries. Might be the best fries I've ever had.
Richard Saunders
Lives up to its fine reputation. We had an outstanding meal, made even better by friendly, funny servers and host. Made us want to move to Minneapolis.
Shanalyn Prudoehl
One of the best meals I've had in Minnesota. My husband, daughter, and I ate here last week. We all just keep thinking about it and bringing it up. I will definitely be back.
Justin Revenaugh
Awesome food and drink, fun staff and a cool spot. A little too dark inside for my older eyes, but not a problem. Loved it. Can't wait to get back.
Dan Bird
The doors are open and we were able to dine in last night. A great meal was had. Lots of shareables and the lengua and steak were our favorites of the night.
Lindsey
Petite Leon's food is time and time again some of the most flavorful food. I've had both their Christmas spread and some of the daily dines, and it's always fun to try new things. This is a restaurant where, usually a diner of habit, I find myself not wanting to get the same thing, because I'm curious where Jorge will lead my tastebuds to next. Here, the burger (dairy free style here, but the full on cheese version I'm sure is even that much more delightful) literally was a slam dunk. Caramelized onions, pickles, handcrafted bun, and a double layer of well-seasoned, juicy, burger patties--Each ingredient intentional and thought out. My little native AZ heart skipped a beat, and was transported back to my SW roots, when I took a tortilla chip face dive into the guac too. (Most definitely became a "single serving" of guac for me). Can't wait to go back and discover more!
Oh and if you're looking for great service, Jorge and his team has always exceeded my expectation with their kindness and friendliness, going above and beyond in making sure I was taken care of when (take-out) dining with them :)
Natan Paradise
Delicious food served by staff better suited to a budget restaurant, in a room way too loud to carry on a conversation across a small table. Overall, disappointing.
Eric Ebbesen
Amazing food and service. Lots of gluten-free options. Most spectacular tartare I've ever tasted.
Joseph Hartwell
Great service, delicious food. Definitely recommend the burger and the fries! Tamale and the sauce were also incredible.
Eric Bartz
Excellent to mediocre depending on dish and day of the week. We've had one of four experiences where it was great all the way through. We're big Jorge fans, but, as of now, we're more confident recommending some of the other outstanding restaurants in town. (Although there are others with consistency issues, too. Love the innovative culinary scene, but discipline seems to be an issue with some.)
Audrey Rice
Delicious. Service was wonderful and attentive. The food was some of the best I've ever had. Truly marvelous experience.
Andrew H
The dishes are all excellent and service is friendly and attentive. We only tried one cocktail but it was excellent and others looked great as well. The only complaint I have is that the design of the place makes it somewhat loud inside. I would highly recommend this place - the Al Pastor especially is an amazing dish.
Kate Thomas
Great food, wonderful atmosphere, prompt, respectful service. I appreciate the 20% service fee because I want to know people are being paid well and aren’t relying on the generosity of tips. Overall highly recommend.
All the food we had was excellent. The sauce on lamb meatballs is great. The broccolini is charred and smokey in the best way. The cheeseburger is the best smash burger I’ve ever had. And the cheesecake is worth the trip on its own.
Cullen Trobec
Came here for an anniversary dinner and can’t overstate how good our experience was from the food to the cocktails to the service. The menu isn’t particularly large for a meant-to-share style restaurant, but it’s clear that a tremendous amount of talent and care went into the chosen dishes. The bison tartare was particularly memorable, and the piquillo peppers were the perfect warm, savory starter for a cold night. Also, I can hardly remember a time when I had such an expensive cocktail that was worth every penny.
Highly recommended for a special date night or occasion. We will certainly be back.
Amber Matsen
Had reservations for 4 and were immediately taken to our table! The staff were super knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and warm. The food was INCREDIBLE. We split each platter and the carne asada and le petite hamburger are the best entrees I’ve ordered in a while from any restaurant! We also ordered both desserts, which were also amazing, and enjoyed the lovely atmosphere for the evening. 100/100 recommend!!
Janna Glaze
Restaurant with small tapas menu - food is great, we dine in for 2, our total was $130 ( they added 20% for fair wages )
Ryan Bolduan
A great local addition that I can't believe had the guts to open during the pandemic. Expect extremely comforting food with varying degrees of spice for everything I've had to date. Can't wait to have it again!
Update post pandemic. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. From the bar menu to the apps to the mains dishes and the cheesecake. Oh good lord the cheesecake, everything is always perfect. I love this place.
Yet another update. Here we are several years out and this is one of the best places to eat. The constantly rotating menu always holds something new and delicious, and the cocktails are still top notch. The James Beard nomination was totally appropriate.

Dining Al Fresc-NO
Arrived late with no reservation and they didn't have any openings in the dining room, but offered me a seat on their patio. It was a nice evening and I wanted to try the place so I took the table. That was a mistake. It is a busy street with a bus stop towards the end of the tables. I had to listen to one person talking on their cell phone while walking around and another skateboarding! I would not recommend eating on their patio. I understand it is not entirely in the restaurants control, but is frustrating when you are trying to enjoy your meal.
Food:
Smoked Salmon - 7/10 It was on the bland side and was a smaller portion It was creamy and had a good texture. Probably wouldn't order it again, but I still enjoyed it.
Carne Asada - 10/10 Can't say enough good things about this dish. I think they said it is cooked medium-rare, but it came more on the rare side of things. It really worked however, and the dish was excellent. It is hard to describe it, but it had a nice crust and the perfect amount of salt. The smoked jalapeno on the side was great.
Service - 9/10 Initially they were going to tell me they didn't have a table, but offered me the table outside. My server was very nice and made me feel welcomed.
Alison Kane
Everything was fantastic. The shrimp and grits are a must! Tip - share each plate so you can try as much as possible.
Tim Tackett
The hype is real. From the killer ham with Gruyère, pickled pearl onion, and brown butter, to their basque style cheesecake, this place belongs among the best restaurants the Twin Cities has to offer. The dishes are unique, and delicious.
Kiley Bastian Johns
Petite León and Jorge Guzmán are 10/10 from start to finish. Loved the Verde cocktail, piquillo peppers and the carne asada. Also check out his pollo pollo pop ups. Unreal!
Eric Norby
We had a great time at Petite Leon last night. The two of us shared the bison tartare, elote salad, cheeseburger, and frites. Each of us had two cocktails as well.
We were very happy with the flavor and quality of the food - I felt like the elote salad could be tweaked (smaller cut lettuce, more corn, some queso fresco would be a nice touch). The cocktails were fantastic. I started with the Brawndo cocktail and finished with the Moon Dog, while my partner had the Wapatui and the Verde. All four were top notch cocktails.
The service was good and prompt, the atmosphere was nice, maybe a little loud. I think the bar was a little backed up so we had to wait maybe 5 minutes for our drinks, but it didn't interrupt the pacing of the meal. I will be excited for the opportunity to come back again!
E M
Great food drinks. Service seemed a tad too serious though. It's possible to be amazing at your job and keep it light
Rachel Gall
Wonderfully attentive service, from the moment we walked in the door to the time we left. Each interaction made us feel valued to be there. We started with the pickled carrots, which might look sleepy on the menu, but wake up your pallet something awesome. Next we got oysters and a bottle of bubbly. The hot sauces served with them took oysters in a savory and round direction. Next, I had the burger, which lives up to the hype. Great ratio of meat, onions, pickles and cheese. They could almost call it a butter burger, because butter is a prominent flavor. My dining partner had the chicken, super crispy crust and spicy sauce which makes you feel like you are traveling in a foreign country. Finally we ended with the cheesecake. It was tangy, smooth but not sweet. Well made, but not what we wanted at the time. Definitely going back.
Eric Pitt
I know I sound basic, but the burger is phenomenal. Juicy patties with a lot of flavor
Vegas_Shortie “Amara Eagan”
Super cute and tucked away in Minneapolis, I happened upon this place from driving by.
I made a reservation and was kindly accommodated to a booth at my request.
The atmosphere here is mixed with vintage 1920’s and romantic Parisian Cafe.
My favorite part was the cheesecake! I highly recommend pairing it with a French press coffee with a splash of cream and sugar. ✨
I would come here again. 🦋
Blair Graham
We were, honestly, a little underwhelmed. Our 3 mixed drinks were decent but not fantastic. Then we got a smattering of things; some we're really good, others were just ok. The highlight was the piquillo peppers (though it could be easily replicated at home) and the carne asada. Neither of these were mind blowing but they were solid. The broccolini was undercooked and boring. The beets were good but not at all revolutionary. The arroz con leche was really not great. We left most of it untouched. And the service was not great-very slow, impersonal and the server needed to be reminded multiple times to bring drinks we ordered and silverware and plates...
I'm honestly confused about why this place was but James Beard finalist. With all the excellent places in the twin cities I don't think we'll be back here
Courtney Lind
I’ve been to PL many times, and it is always spectacular. We can always count on Jorge to reinvent the menu on a regular basis with surprising consistency. It’s a great place for four to try many shareable dishes on the menu, or go for a date night (like my husband and I love to do) for an intimate delicious dinner.
Our recent visit included the classic Caesae salad with a delicious twist and the pork collar al pastor was insanely good.
It’s a great mix of cuisines, and elevated in all the right ways. There is a reason he’s nominated for a James Beard award.
Pro tip: they serve Red Table meats!!!! And you can ask for a side of the delicious grilled bread w/chipotle butter (it comes with the mussels - also amazing) any time you are there. So very worth it.
They carry Matic wines which is my favorite orange wine. And their avocado margarita cocktail is excellent (the Brawny). I just can’t say enough good things about Petite Leon!
David Wrobleski
Some of the best food I’ve had dining out in a long time. Kudos for opening in a pandemic. I loved what they did with the former Blackbird space. Don’t expect big plates, don’t expect it to be cheap. It’s some of the most amazing flavors I’ve had since somewhere like when Grand Cafe was a thing, but I would say even more delicious flavors. I got the Verde cocktail which was excellent. The Escabeche was so damn good. I loved the Modelo and a bump of mezcal, bourbon, or fernet. The steak is a must. Don’t expect a Costco size steak, this is much more flavorful and much higher quality meat. Their burger was one of the best I’ve had in the city. The cauliflower ruled too. The servers were very kind. Expect to wait, expect to have small portions of some amazing food. It’s well worth it.
Andrea Rodriguez
The food is overpriced in my opinion for the portion and taste. Great cocktails though!
Sean B
Have you ever had a meal dramatically exceed your expectations? We had that tonight at Petite Leon. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and ordered so many great dishes off of the menu. From the Waldorf Salad to the broccolini, to the cauliflower to the steak, to the lamb meat balls, it was sooooo good. The service was prompt and the courses came out just as we were finishing the last course. The drinks were filled right on time. We will be back.
Christine Longe
Incredible. Can't wait to go back. The piquillo peppers are to die for. The wedge salad seems so simple but the peeled, marinated tomatoes are flavor bombs that surprise you and the crunchy bits are magical. The steak is so tender it doesn't need a knife. And the service....AMAZING. Best in the Twin Cities right now. Ask for Ben - owner/server extraordinaire. You will get the best recommendations and learn everything you need to know about the food. So good I don't want you to go, it will just make it harder for us to get a reservation to go back.
Miss Momo
The food was so good I could cry! The service, cocktails, everyone who worked there from the host to the gentleman who was opening doors for people was superb! Our servers Dallas and Sam were absolutely wonderful and super knowledgeable about the menu. Sarah was also amazing! I will recommend everyone and everybody to this place because it is a culinary delight with top notch service. Reserve yourself a table now! You can thank your tastebuds later!
Karsen Yack
I still dream about the cheesecake at this restaurant! My fav dessert in Twin Cities area!
Ryan C. Van Wyk
Outstanding food and dining experience. Our server, Emily, introduced us to the menu with passion and an intimate knowledge of the cocktails, wine, and food. The Pisco, Love, & Understanding was excellent. My wife had the Field Recordings Gruner. The Old Fashioned was great as well. The Piquillo Peppers were an fantastic start to the meal with the roasted peppers encasing warm goat cheese. The Tamal Frito was an excellent accompaniment to the Pollo Al Carbon and Steak Babette. Both of the main dishes were incredible, at least in part due to their fantastic sauces The steak was perfectly charred and the chicken was bursting with flavor. Definitely looking forward to coming back to grab the burger and fries, as they looked delicious being served throughout the time we were there.
Bethany Charlsen
What a wonderful new spot! The entire staff was warm and welcoming to our multi-generational party. They modified the burger portion for our toddler and everything we had was delicious! Burger was a huge hit for everyone as were the French fries and wedge salad. We will be back! Ambience is causal yet modern and inviting. Just a delight!
Sheldon Vaz
Fantastic food and cocktails! Really enjoyed everything that we tried. 4 of us with healthy appetites split 6 appetizers and 2 entrees between us. Perfect amount of food. Hard to pick the best bite because everything was that good. The petite cheeseburger is a must try.
Merissa Russie
My partner and I came to Petite Leon for our 3 -year wedding anniversary. The staff made us feel so special and celebrated! Everything we ate and drank was incredible. Seems as though you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu-it’s all great! Wonderful atmosphere, staff, and food.
Oscar
I had the opportunity to dine at Petite Leon during its first week of being open for seated dining. The experience was fantastic, food was top notch, vibe was well set and staff was great. They include a 20% service charge in lieu of tipping, which I believe is becoming common in trendier restaurants.
I would highly recommend the burger and the meatballs. I will be returning and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fun trendy night out.
Christine Longe
Just had the most amazing meal and experience. The piquillo pepper starter was a beautiful start. The steak, burger and chicken entrees were all impeccable. Finished with the Mexican chocolate ice cream and cheesecake, both were to die for. If you like wine, try the Australian montepulciano - amazing surprise. The service matches the food, timely, knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely going back.
A Streep
Had dinner & drinks at Petite León last night. Everything was amazing. The cocktail menu was fantastic and refreshing. The King Crab was light but full of flavor and the Burger was top notch. Will be going back for sure.
Heather Deyoung
Oh.....my.........gawd! THE best restaurant we have been in a long time! We literally probably had everything and haven’t been this happy full in forever and it hurts so good!
The peppers are like no other, oysters out of this world especially in the Midwest and their little sauces in eye droppers are brilliant! Mussels are insanely awesome, Tamal was like nothing I’ve had and in a great way, and then to finish it off with the pollo and cheeseburger... now you see how we can’t move! Not going to lie, got the cheesecake to go. All and all I will definitely roll myself back and back! The atmosphere and service were not to mention amazing as well. Couldn’t have asked k for a better neighborhood restaurant. Will definitely be talking about it for awhile.
Thank you for all you do!
Liam Mackin
Absolutely blew our minds with the thoughtful, tasty little dishes! The cauliflower with queso, the goat cheese peppers, the roasted squash with mushrooms, and the escabeche were out of this world good. Really interesting cocktails too!
Adam Ford
Fun atmosphere, and good staff. I had the mussels and fries to share and also a burger. All were delicious.
David Johnston
This place is amazing! Fantastic dishes with interesting and creative ingredients, wonderful ambiance and décor, and a mind-blowing selection of agave spirits. Their cocktails looked really good too, but I didn't end up getting any of those (as I was too dedicated to trying the agave spirits, seriously they've got amazing stuff you can't otherwise find in this area). Their tepache was DELICIOUS, if you're looking for a nice N/A option.
The staff were really excellent, really professional and they seemed like they enjoyed their job and took pride in providing a great experience for their patrons. The owner was super kind to us and I won't soon forget that. We will definitely be back and bring our friends!
Sarah Fadell
I don't even know what to say, other than we are so incredibly full and beyond satisfied. We are now going to nap for two days and get up just to order again. Good Lord it was good. Every flavor was so special. We had cheeseburgers, frites, and sprouts. I believe this food was delivered directly from Heaven. We forgot to take pictures because we were so enamored eating it, but it looked just the really great professional photos online. Thank you and goodnight.
Ashley Gust
We ordered Petite Leon's Christmas Dinner and it was fantastic! At pick-up, the crew was so nice and helpful. They offered to help us carry out our food and we parked 2 blocks away!
And the food...it was delicious! The instructions were easy to follow and the product didn't suffer from home service.
Highly recommend giving them a try!
Ryan Vaterlaus
This place is out of this world delicious!!! Went here with out friends Jared and Alli tonight and can't wait to go back. So good. Steak, chicken, duck, muscle, red peppers, wedge salad, smoked trout, chips and cheese cake. Omg so soon. Cocktail list was creative and tasty. Highly recommend!
Leonard Krause
Wonderful small plates, creative flavors, friendly atmosphere.
Gabrielle Stein
The service was impeccable. Every person of staff was pleasant. I went with a friend, but it would also be a cute date spot. I ordered La Petite Cheeseburger and the Frites and would recommend them both.
Grace G
Wow, what can I say... the food was so delicious and flavorful in all of the right ways! The dishes were unique and surprising. I told the waitress that I hesitate to order the steak at some places because a lot of the time it’s something I can just do at home, but the steak was worth it and I cannot make that at home! We had the frites, piquillo peppers, lamb meatballs, tamal frito, wedge salad, and the steak. The piquillo peppers, tamal frito and steak were the best for us, but every dish was amazing. I also had the margarita and it was fresh and delicious. Also everything came out fresh and quickly. Highly recommend, perfect for date night. Good place to share plates!
Lauren Fleming
One of my favorite restaurants. Everything is delicious!
We were pleased they were accommodating in keeping nuts off of a vegetable dish due to an allergy.
nathan maki
Fantastic food and great staff! The staffe really know the dishes and drinks well.
charles hansen
Dined in last night and was blown away. Tried 1/3 of the menu and will be going back to work the way thru the other 2/3rds. 5-stars for cocktails too!
Gabriella
Awesome awesome food. We tried the chicken torta, fritas, the basque cheesecake, and cheeseburger. Everything was still warm after a 10-15 min walk (thank you for thinking thru your takeout packaging & system!) back home to eat. Can’t wait to go back & order more. So excited to have this place so close. Hoping to try their cocktails once I feel safe to go inside a restaurant again.
Paul R
Just ate here for the first time (Carry out), and the food was *phenomenal*! Every dish we tried was loaded with complex and surprising spices and flavors. The fried chicken torta, in particular was absolutely perfect; also really enjoyed the Sikil P'ak and the goat cheese stuffed peppers. I really look forward to ordering again and exploring more of the menu.
Brady Otterness
We had a reservation and they sat us at the bar which was disappointing. The food was good.
Greg S
Wonderful from start to finish. One of the best meals we have had in quite some time!
B N
It has been over 12 hours since I first tasted the masterpiece that is the La Petite Cheeseburger and I cannot stop thinking about it. This burger will be what all others will be judged against. The incredible, flavorful, and juicy patties complete with the perfect amount of cheese and onions. Set on a bun with just the right amount of char. It was a flavor explosion in my mouth. Make sure to order the Piquillo peppers as well. My general opinion is just about anything stuffed with melted goat cheese is a must try and these did not disappoint. Perfect balance of flavors from the cheese and pepper and the added bonus is using the bun of the burger to soak up the extra juices from the peppers.
We will definitely be ordering again and look forward to the full dine in experience.
Amy Cooper
Food was good, atmosphere was great, hostess was friendly, service was horrible. I’m not sure if it was the 20% service fee automatically charged, or the color of our skin. Either way our service was horrible.
Jeffrey Wright
Have been to Petite Leon a few times now and the food is hit and miss. They certainly are trying but there were issues across the board.
Excellent dishes include the beet salad and stuffed piquillo peppers (which, however, lacked the promised chipotle butter)
The albondigas (lamb meatballs) were under seasoned and the sauce pretty bland and uninteresting.
The hamachi aguachili lacked acid, salt and any noticeable flavor.
The mussels were also bland - the green chili sauce was lifeless.
The steak was the only really good dish.
Overall, this place has the makings of a nice neighborhood gem. It’s a nice space and a great front of the house staff. But the kitchen missed the mark more often than not.
John Myers
Simply amazing food. The beets were incredible. The burger is fantastic. The sausage was enough for two meals and our kids ate everything. Perfect amount of spice and every bite uncovers a new depth of flavor.
Atticus Pomerantz
The Chicken al Carbon was amazing - hands down the best take-out meal we've had in months. At $55 it's not cheap but it was plenty of food for 2 people & we had enough left over for breakfast too. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!
Mecca Sygnifax
Food is great and it comes out super fast. Amazing service. The menu is fantastic.
Molly Wyss
Petite León's food was excellent! The pozole in particular was amazingly delicious, but it had heavy competition from the meatballs, elote salad, and cheesecake. Everything reheated well (takeout) and was easy to plate ourselves. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back in person when possible!
Cody Walter
I was very excited to try this restaurant and was surprised to see a new restaurant open up during this time. I got the Bomba Pollo Torta for take out and was very impressed. The breading was very crispy, the chicken was juicy, and the flavor was great. The staff was very nice and my order was ready when I arrived. Even though I didn’t get to go inside it looked very inviting, cozy, and the neon sign really makes this place stand out. Can’t wait to try more dishes and have a drink inside when the time comes.
Sarah Houghton
We had the pickled carrots, oysters, octopus tostada, and the steak. Everything was cooked well and well seasoned. We also tried some agave and the bartender was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We'll be back. Thank you!
Becky Anderson
We loved every bite and sip of our first meal at Petite Leon. My negroni was perfectly crafted, the oysters were amazing and the Pollo al Carbon was delicious! Excellent customer service to top it all off. Can't wait to head back soon and try more on their menu👏 …
Lauren Lathrop
Amazing food from the heart. We've been anticipating the opening of this restaurant for several months and our first takeout experience more than lived up to the hype. The Pollo el Carbon meal fed us for two days and we loved all the little touches. Can't wait to enjoy a meal here in person when we're able!
James B
Amazing food! I wished I still lived in Minneapolis solely for Eat Street/Nicollet and add this place to another must go to. I've only done take out, so the in-person interaction and service is hard to gauge. However, in a previous enterprise, Travis catered by wedding and the food and service was top notch!
Zelen
Absolutely next level cuisine.
I wish I had more words for the level of flavor my partner and I experienced at Petite Leon. Earthy, deep, and intensely rich flavors are what make this experience so exquisite.
Expect spice. Expect depth. Expect intensity.
I will be back.
August Jennings
Had a great dinner! Can't wait to come back.
Alex Boylan
Great vibe from the moment you walk in More importantly, every dish, I mean EVERY dish we ordered was delish. Normally, there are always a few that are forgettable but not tonight. Thanks Ben, our server extraordinaire, for a wonderful experience.
Megan Brang
Wow! PSA: Eat this food as soon as you can. So far everything I’ve tried has been fantastic. I love when restaurants slay it at the simple things in addition to the “fancier” items. The frites and turmeric aioli are a must. I love love the pequillo peppers. Burger is downright mouthwatering-ly delicious. Their take on elote is unique, different, and tasty. Can’t wait to work my way down the list (menu). It’ll be such a joy when it’s safe to dine out again. This place is walking distance and I already know it’ll be a second home. So yeah, order this food.
Sean Nykaza
Absolutely wonderful experience. The flavor was absolutely busting out of each dish. Highly recommend the Al Pastor and broccolinj
Mary B
I visited in early November for a girl's night, and we all loved the food. Their vegetables are wonderful, and we'd highly recommend the stuffed peppers starter, the beets, and the broccolini.
Troy Midboe
The food is outstanding. Sat at the bar and had the lengua, pulpo, carrots and artichokes. Mixed in great drinks and a superb agave selection then finished with the pollo carbon - Outstanding. Keep this place busy!
Jeremy Olsen
This food is absolutely delicious and you need to try it. The fried chicken torta will be our new go to. The posole is also highly recommended-the red broth and chicken has a depth of flavor I’ve not ever experienced in posole before. Online ordering was easy and the food ready on time.
Pieter K
Very friendly service, nice atmosphere Great dishes. Casual dining.
Sarah Engstrom
Incredible new place in South Minneapolis! The crispy chicken sandwich is perfect - breading and crisp is perfectly balanced with a moist chicken, bun supports but doesn't rule, and just a delicious experience. Also, the beets are a flavorful blast. Enjoy!
Anika Duckwall
Food was delicious but the atmosphere was too loud for normal conversation
Efim Shukalovich
Amazing food, excellent service, perfect night out!
Basia Minta
What a great place!!! Shared the spiced beets, the cauliflower dish, the broccollini, and the roasted squash. Of course we shared the arroz con Leche and the cheese cake!!!
Claire Stobb
Just incredibly delicious food and great service. We had the birria brisket torta, lamb meatballs, beet and labneh, fries, and a slice of the basque cheesecake. Everything was incredible, but the meatballs were a standout. Must try.
Chance Prigge
Came here a couple weeks ago for our second visit and it again did not disappoint. The pacquito peppers with goat cheese and chipotle butter were a highlight. The guac was about as smooth and fresh as you'll find in the Cities. Also had the gnocchi and burger, which were great. Lots of options that you won't find elsewhere, especially during the pandemic.
Brandon Dahl
Super fun ambiance, great food and good service. Can't wait to go back BUT...feel confused and a bit "duped" by the 20% service charge.
On one hand they say it's to provide fair wages and benefits but on the other they say it is not a gratuity.. They also include a tip line on the bill so it really puts the customer in an uncomfortable position in trying to figure out what's going on.
We were having such a good time that when the check came, we added a 20% tip without even thinking about it or remembering that there was already a 20% service charge.
If you're a "fair wages" kind of place with a service charge, remove the tip line or, at least, confirm with the customer that they are aware that a service charge was already added when seeing another 20% on the tip line. I'm sure our server was VERY pleased but should have confirmed that we were aware of the service charge.
Hoping this is unintentional and not a strategy to try to get the customer to pay more than necessary but it would be an easy fix if they wanted to make it less complex and confusing.
norah kelly
Our experience at Petite Leon was outstanding! The food was delicious, the space was absolutely gorgeous, while still comfortable and inviting, and the staff was friendly and knowledgable! I cannot wait to go back!!
Emma Wan
100%, absolutely yes. Everything we've tried from Petite Leon has been an absolute FLAVOR EXPLOSION, and consistently tasty time and time again. It's about a 20-min drive for us to carry out, but the food and the flavor travels well.
shane Burgess
This French Mexican fusion restaurant was a breath of fresh air after the covid affected food culture malaise. The piquillo peppers were subtle yet inspiring. The butter poached salmon (fish special du jour) was top notch and the cheesecake was the best I have ever head. Prepare to pay for ingenuity.
Mike Plantan
Really fantastic cocktails, different drinks each time we have been. The broccolini is a must have.
Marco Vincent
The steak and chicken were better than the pheenomnom four courses we had prior. Such accelerative pleasure, accompanied by perfect cocktails and real sweetheart staff. Best meal we’ve had since COVID rampage, and possibly since our two-week trip to Spain - two years back. Trust your server, they know what’s best. My better-half was sober cab tonight, and fully agrees. That is a testament. Were four starring Spoon and Stable and Martina in recent weeks; and this is a five star staple. Don’t change Lil PurrPurr. Dont change.
Megan Evans
Amazing food - and they take food allergies seriously! The lamb meatballs are to die for, the brussels are perfect, and the Linguica an unforgettable dish. Highly recommend.
Tony
Cheeseburger and Birria Brisket Torta were both amazing. And you absolutely have to try the stuffed peppers! Will definitely be a repeat customer
Jordan Jessen
Best burger in Mpls. All of the other food and cocktails are terrific as well. Probably one of my favorite dining experiences in MSP.
Lois Donnay
Pretty place. The plates are made or sharing. The food is good, very imaginative. TIp included in bill. 4 people, 4 plates, 4 glasses of wine, came to about $115.
carlos ortiz
Creative food. Adequate portioning. High prices. Drinks are awesome. I'd come back for the drinks.
Diana White
Good food. The burger was my favorite.
Bernice Reyes
You won’t regret it! Perfect place for a delicious date night! The stuffed peppers and the Al pastor is a must!
Cassidy Flannery
I loved the noise. After a year of not having any it was great seeing people excited and happy. Oh yeah and the food was fantastic and Travis is killing it behind the bar.
John Reid
Incredible, delightful experience. Solid chef, solid restaurant, everything above par. If you’re in the area, or just a local looking for a night out, this is your spot. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Interesting food and wonderful steak. It is very loud in here and impossible to have a conversation with your dining companions.

Petite Leon allows only 1.5 hours with a reservation for two, so I studied the menu and made my choices at home. I knew we wouldn’t have time for a bottle of wine.
The mussels were a pleasant change from the simple classic recipe often used by others; I must order them again. The Bavette was also nicely prepared with much flavor, but I’ll try another option next time. Of course the piquilla peppers must also be ordered next time. There are so many tempting items on the menu I’d like to try. Food so delicious deserves to be savored.
Alas, our 1.5 hour dining allotment was over and we didn’t have time for desert. Next time we’ll also forgo our pre-dinner cocktail so we won’t feel so rushed and might be able to try a delicious looking desert.
Our party of two didn’t find an issue with conversation because of the noisy environment, but we did leave by 6:30. The staff was welcoming and attentive. I hope Petite Leon has a long and prosperous run.
Phyllis Warner
I will go back. Such a great place
jorge guzman
Had dinner at my own restaurant. I’m giving us 5 stars because our staff f’’ing rocks. From front to back of house I can’t say enough about how amazing our staff is! ❤️🖤
Tif M
Finally had a chance to eat here after years of it being on my list of "places I'd like to try". We ordered the peppers stuffed with goat cheese, aquachile, the widely-popular burger and fries, chicken main, and rice pudding for dessert.
Overall, I loved the appetizers specifically the aquachile. It was very fresh and refreshing to eat. Loved the yuzu vinaigrette. The burger was good and I can see why it's very popular. My least favorite was the chicken dish. I did not enjoy the piri-piri sauce.
I would come back here again and try the other items I didn't order.
Tom Hangge
Our experience this evening at Petite León was amazing. We sat at the bar and the bar manager Maria was so delightful. She was very knowledgeable about all the menu items and gave us great recommendations. She was so friendly and made our evening so enjoyable!! Thank you for having such great employees!!
