Reviews of Northern Fires Pizza

Finally tried Northern Fires Pizza for the first time and it did not disappoint. This housemade sauerkraut + purple potato + caraway aioli (!!) pizza was out of this world. Really incredible flavors and ingredients and an excellent, consistent bake on the pizza. Can’t wait to try more!

MN - excellent/the best we have had here thus far, NY - very good. This establishment uses quality ingredients - good flour, fresh mozzarella, fresh and local produce. We LOVE the oyster mushroom pizza with extra mushrooms and have to restrain ourselves from ordering it too frequently. This pizza is worthy of sharing with out discerning, east coast family and friends. The squash and sweet corn pizzas are also very good.

I’ve eaten top rated pizza from Naples to Sydney. This is as good as it gets—but even better for being made with hyper local ingredients (even the wheat!) and a sourdough process. Many gluten intolerant people swear by this place. Passionate and caring people. Consistent and timely.

Amazing crust, awesome pizza. Got the Kingfield minus sausage add mushrooms. Next time I will have to try it as it is on the menu but the flavors are so so fresh! The ingredients stand out and I hope they continue to keep the quality of each ingredient the focus of these pizzas. My only request is to cut your oyster mushrooms up just a chop or two as some are really quite huge. They are delicious regardless and I think I detected a hint of tarrogon or fennel on the Kingfield which pairs perfectly with mushrooms, and I can't wait to come back. Prices are as expected for fresh high quality ingredients with wood fired pizza, I would go so far as to say this Northern Fires Pizza puts all other wood fired pizzas I've had to shame. When you start with high quality ingredients you get high quality flavor. Keep the fire on, Cheers

Fantastic. Finally got around to trying it even though I’ve lived nearby for a years. It’s easy to miss, take out only and a small shop so it flies under the radar but it’s some of the best wood fired pizza I’ve ever had. Great selection of extra local products too.

We ordered the sausage pizza and the veg. pizza. I, myself, am not partial to pizzas, but after I ate Ari's pizza, we will be going back more often. I couldn't stop eating the sourdough crust, because it was, phenomenally great! After I got past the crust and bit into the veggies, I could taste that the veggies were fresh and wonderful and then knowing, they were locally bought, said alot. My husband got the sausage pizza, and that sausage was a 10. The salad was a 10, and couldnt stop eating that as well. Was supposed to share it with my husband, but that wasn't happening. The lemonade, is my new go to drink! And I thought Chick Filet had me. I need to buy cases of this.
Hook me up, Ari! This was a great experience, and I wished we'd have done this sooner. Keep up the great work Ari!

This is great pizza! Just tried it for the first time tonight. It is a little on the pricey side. But our crew got a lot of pizzas and they were all great! Definitely worth checking them out!

I don’t think I’ve ever written a google review but this pizza made me do it. It is FANTASTIC — from the sourdough crust to the sauce, not to mention they LOAD on the toppings. If you like this style pizza, you’ll love it too. VERY worth the $17 price tag, no doubt. Will become a regular.

Ordered their vegan pizza. Flavorful. High quality ingredients. Delicious crust that was crispy and chewy. It came with a large bowl of arugula with a vinaigrette on it. Simple and satisfying. They had contactless pick up and the estimated time ready made it easy to know when to pick up. I look forward to trying some of their other options.

The organic lemonade made in-house is an absolute must buy. It’s incredible! The crust on the pizza is delicious and thin and the toppings are high quality and delicious. We had the Kingsfield and it was delicious. Definitely a top tier pizza place in the cities.

I moved to MPLS from NJ where pizza is revered! I thought I would never find good pizza, especially in my neighborhood (Standish) but I was wrong! One day I was driving west on 42nd St and noticed a small take-out only pizza shop named Northern Fires Pizza. Their menu is not extensive but the choices are all top-notch! They use locally sourced and organic ingredients as well as non-GMO ingredients. Their pizzas are creative and delicious. The pizza offerings change based on sourcing seasonal ingredients. Everything is homemade and fresh. The Cesar salad is amazing. I love the sourdough pizza crust. I highly recommend this local pizzeria. You won’t be disappointed.

Tried this place out recently cause I’m moving to a house nearby and I was not disappointed! Pizza and salad were both delicious! We’ll be making this a regular spot once we move.

Try the mushroom pizza! Eat it hot. Eat the leftovers cold. It doesn't matter - their mushroom pizza is great. Check their hours before you start craving this pizza!

Solid pizza at a premium price. Good to try but there is better pizza at a lower price to be had in south minneapolis ie: Pizza Biga
Frances Durkin
My goodness the pizzas are amazing! But if they’re selling the quart of tomato sauce with meatballs it’s an awesome thing to have in your freezer - huge meatballs and plenty of them with sausage mixed in. Yum yum. Fed me and my husband for about 3 meals.

This is our go to place for wood fired pizza. The crust is incredible - thin dough with the perfect amount of char from the oven and a hint of sourdough bite. The ingredients are shockingly good - so good that I wouldn't expect to find them on a pizza. For example, a seasonal mushroom pizza of theirs stands out as one of the best mushroom dishes I've ever had, pizza or otherwise, simply from the remarkable flavor of the mushrooms. The owner is also super responsive via email whenever I've had questions, and they're branching out to have more sides, bread, etc. I could write an entire post about the bread they gave us on Halloween during an evening of baking tests with their oven. I bake sourdough at home, and that bread was pretty much the ideal that I work towards.
My wife and I are big fans of Northern Fires; they seem to care a lot about taking care of their workers and suppliers while putting out a killer product. We'll keep going here whenever we're craving thin crust, wood fired pizza.

You can just tell when a business is using real ingredients to make you something fresh. Northern Fires is no exception. My partner and I tried their Kingfield Pizza, and it proved to be a delicious classic wood fired pizza. Price may be higher than averafe for a 12 inch pizza, but ingredients and superior tatse justify it in the end. Will be excited to go again.

Awesome wood fired pizza. The dough is chewy and delicious. The sauce has a wonderful fresh taste of tomatoes and herbs. I got the Kingfield and they put a good amount of toppings on the pizza. I highly recommend trying it if you're in the neighborhood.
Irene Tlatenchi
My first experience trying their pizza and I was pleasantly surprised! I'm not a huge pizza fan but was so impressed with the mushroom pizza. It was so flavorful without being 'heavy' or greasy. I will say that the texture of their dough is different and it took me a few bites to get used to it but all the flavors are on point and I would definitely go back for another.

Really Superb! They truly believe in high quality ingredients and work to make their pizza's based upon what is grown locally and seasonally here in MN which isn't the easiest thing to do. Quality People working there and Quality Eats!! Their menu has some staple options as well as it changes which is fun and always tasty! They have a beautiful artistic flair to each pizza created!! Feels like luxury pizza for ALL persons cause their prices are very reasonable!! I say, Yum Yum Yummers!! Damn Straight!! 😉

Very friendly service. I like that they source local ingredients and pay their employees a living wage, so I didn’t mind the slightly higher prices. It is clear that a lot of love and care goes into their food. The pizza was very flavorful and fresh. The Blanca had great garlicky flavor and I loved the cheddar. The sausage and pepperoni on the Kingfield tasted homemade and so flavorful. One downside for me is that it has that floppy wet crust in the center that so many of you love for some reason. Not really my thing. I like the slice to hold together. Though the outside of the crust is soft and chewy and really good. It is similar to Punch but I think better. If you’re into that neopolitan style crust, you will love this pizza. For me, I just really liked it.

Some of the very best pizza in the Twin Cities. Amazing sourdough crust. Fantastic toppings of which many are vegetarian. The Margherita is tough to beat as well with it's delicious red sauce. The sides (carrots, shishito peppers, and salad) are tasty as well. So happy they have a location now and don't have to wait for a Farmer's Market to be able to partake in the deliciousness.

'The Dude' is always a favorite. Super cool pizza shop, focused on doing local the right way. Variety of rotating seasonal toppings. This week they had a special container of mushroom ragu to take home, and it was fantastic! Don't skip the take home, try something new!
Check their Instagram for where they'll be as they do pop up at a variety of farmers markets, and adjust their store hours based on the week.

Rustic, wood-fired pizzas that cost a bit extra but are worth it! My favorite is the standard pepperoni pizza, which has a nice Italian spiciness to the pepperonis. The Dude is a good, unique pizza that wasn't particularly spicy despite the jalapeños. And the margherita is also plenty good with a nice basil flavor. The wood-fired sourdough crust is sooo good that any pizza toppings added will be solid. 2 hungry humans can eat 3 pizzas, since they're thin and only 12 inches. I look forward to trying some of the other flavors in the future too!

Excellent addition to our South Minneapolis neighborhood!
Neapolitan style pies created from locally sourced producers.
Reheated leftovers are as delicious as they were out of the oven.
Polite and enthusiastic staff and easy pickup. Worth every penny!

Stopped by on a night we didn’t have a plan for dinner. Walked right up, put my order in and within 15 minutes they had me on my way with the pizza. The pizza was thin, crispy and flavorful. Will definitely be back to try more!

Northern Fires is out new go-to pizza spot in the neighborhood. The oyster mushroom pizza is our favorite but everything is tasty. Prices are a little bit high but they pay all employees at least 20 dollars an hour and source almost all ingredients locally, so it’s worth it for me.
Maple Opichius
Pizza was good, not soggy or doughy like some places. Was given no napkins but was sure asked for a tip.
Christina Czichray
We bought pizza dough from them. My toddlers will only eat pizza they make themselves and I found out i could get dough here! In my neighborhood! It was delicious!! I cant wait to buy a pizza there for myself and not need to cook or clean. Next treat night im going here!! Highly recommend they were super kind and gave me lots of tips on working with their dough.

I wanted to like this place, pics looked like my style, and I hate writing negative reviews of small places like this so its a shame.
I've only had it one time and I ordered the Kingston. The pizza looked well done but at the same time, it had no crisp. It was so floppy that it was impossible to pick up a slice without losing the toppings even with the fold technique. This was compounded by the relative lack of cheese on the pizza so there was nothing to bind the toppings together. So for feedback to the restaurant: Too much flop, not enough crisp, not enough mozzarella (out to the edges is key!).
It was very expensive and yes I read how they pay their employees well and use quality ingredients but it didn't come through in the final product to be totally honest. I didn't give it 2 stars because based on the other rave reviews I HAVE to assume something went wrong with the dough or the oven and this was a fluke.

So glade to have this place in the neighborhood they have some of the best pizza I’ve ever had!!
Jessica Opheim
So glad they opened in the neighborhood, we have been loving their pizza at the nikomis farmers market but glad to have a year round option! Both the mushroom and spinach pizzas were fantastic. Salad was simple but delicious. Excited to see what other seasonal offerings they will have!
Jacob Cooper
Delicious Ceasar salad and Margherita pizza. Will be back for sure.
Amy Workman
Ordered the Kingfield and the pepperoni. Big fan of woodfire pizza, so I've had my share and this was right up there with the best. Amazing flavors. Love that they use Red Table pepperoni. My three year old was even impressed and loved the charred crust. We don't order out much, so $17/12" pizza seemed like a splurge, but two pizzas was more than enough for a hungry toddler, a breastfeeding mom (#alwayshungry), and a dad. So worth. Order from here and keep them in the neighborhood! Read the ordering instructions and you'll be in pizza heaven asap.
Logan Camilli
Super friendly and helpful staff. Really great pizzasthey serve 1-2 people per pizza. Excited to go back once they reinstall their outdoor seating, due to COVID understandably. For now it's best for just takeout.
Steve Scofield
This is the best pizza in South Minneapolis - only a few others in the whole city even come close. I’m surprised they’re able to keep up with demand - it’s amazing. Must be word just hasn’t gotten around yet.
Anne DW
The best pizza I've ever had! Every single time. The flavors are out of this world, so fresh and delicious. I highly recommend Northern Fires!
Emily Benson
We got pizza there tonight. It was really good. I really liked the crust. Soft and flavorful. I got the spinach and red onion and was pleased with my choice. They were busy. Clear to see why.
Andrew Oehmke
Excellent, fresh ingredients. Soft crust. Absolutely delicious.
Doug Wilson
We were excited to try a new wood fire pizza and this place beat my expectations. We ordered the Kingfield and the Margherita. Both were excellent and I was impressed with how complex the flavors were in these.
DM
Wow, this pizza is awesome. Super fresh ingredients and the sauce is flavorful. Service is friendly and helpful. This pizza is the best I’ve had in the twin cities. Thank you!!
Jason Thompson
Best pizza I've had in Minneapolis
Peter Goldberg
Ordered the Margherita and Winter Squash pizzas along with the roasted carrots and parsnips side. All food was complex and delicious. There was a little wait at the pickup but that was minor. The biggest downside was the price was a bit higher on each item than is typical, so the overall value was not fantastic. But if you are looking for very high quality hot oven pizza then this could be your new go-to.
Steven Metzmaker
Got to watch my pizza be made from the sidewalk! Excellent sauce with a unique and delicious crust. Try the king field pizza it will not disappoint!
Bradley Service
Like.. I love wood fired pizza. And this is some the best wood fired pizza. And in my opinion, affordable for what you get. A+

Toppings were VERY GOOD. The bottom crust was a little bit soggy but the pie was good. I'd recommend them and I'd go back again.
