It’s interior is dingy, and is meager in comparison to many modern fast food facilities. Particularly, in stark contrast to fried chicken competitor, Raising Cane’s. However, rather than it’s value completely lost, it is displaced and saturated into its food. The six-piece chicken wing with fries (and for the love of god and all that is holy, get extra lemon pepper salt. Wow. And no, this is not your grocery store lemon pepper, this stuff is DIFFERENT) are next to none. Having visited Hook and Fish just after attending the state fair this August, I confidently choose this to be my most memorable and favorite meal. That nearby Raising Canes on Lake Street comes nowhere near. And arguably, that’s how things should be. Ask me and the decision is simple. Hook and fish makes Raising canes taste like Cub foods fried chicken. I’ll always choose high tier and low-priced wings rather a flashy bureaucratic template fast food chain setting with lackluster food. Every. Damn. Time. 5 stars.

Place is rough appearance wise. Was on a mission to get a friend a fish sandwich and fries. He said they were delicious 😋 Service was fast and friendly.

One issue is it took a very long time to cook two 2 pieces of catfish, over 10 minutes, next thing is the kitchen as you can see from the counter is dirty, messy and disorganized. I was wondering why there wasn't a single car in the entire lot. However I do have to say that you get a pretty nice large size portion of delicious, fresh tasting catfish, shrimp and fries for the price. Pretty good overall fur a quick decent meal.

My spouse enjoyed his meal much more than I did. I've never been much of a seafood person, but trying to expand my horizons, I ordered the Combo #2, chicken tenders and fried perch. It also came with fries. Everything had a wonderful seasoning on it (lemon pepper?) that made the first bites very tasty. I liked the chicken, but I wasn't a fan of the fish. It may have just been my own tastes, though. My spouse really enjoyed his chicken wings. I thought that the dining area was quite dingy and very cold. I felt uncomfortable dining there. That being said, it's in a great location, and it has its own dedicated parking lot. Lots of people came in ordering wings, and the food came out quickly. This might be worth a try if you're a fried fish kind of person!

This place is awesome, haven’t been disappointed once. The chicken strips/nuggets are prob the best I’ve had in Minneapolis. Gentleman at the front counter is super friendly & actually remembers people. Definitely recommend.

Had a great experience here, just got done hooping and wasnt really hungry but still pulled up. The employees were awesome and the manager was the nicest. Chicken was an 8.3/10, fries were an 9.1/10. Lemon pepper was bangin too. first time at hooks was successful.

The boss man/manager is a top notch professional that always goes the extra mile. Ever time I walk in he knows exactly what I want. Great place for food and service. The samosas are the best thing on the menu alone with the gyros stake burger.

The 3 stars is based on the fact the food was good, but not sure I'd ever go back. First of all, both the building and parking lot were very dark. Absolutely NO lights in the parking lot and most of the building windows were boarded up. So I was not even sure the place was open, in spite of the "open" sign being lit. Secondly, even though I was the only customer in the building, it took 6 minutes for someone to take my order. But my biggest issue is the fact that the wings I ordered (the 10 wing meal) were without question the smallest wings I have ever seen! All 10 of them. They were so scrawny there was hardly any meat on the wings! Completely unacceptable to serve these wings. Maybe this was an odd exception but doubtful I'd try then again.

Stopped here for the first time a few days ago. I was really excited by the prospect of a local, non chain, fried chicken spot that wasn't over hip and over priced. I was thoroughly impresses by Hook. My only complaint is the service time. Waited 10-15 minutes for my to go order during a non busy time, but it was worth it when I got home and tasted the chicken. I was also very happy with the portion size for the price. Will definitely be back.

The food really is fabulous. The food is the reason to go for sure....but expect it to take a long time to prepare. The wait is worth it. This place isn't in the best of neighborhoods and can be a little sketchy after dark..at the same time I've never had any issues. I'm not sure I've had better fried catfish or shrimp anywhere, though.

The best fried catfish and shrimp. Always fresh and hot. I ask for the mild sauce for dipping and have them add the lemon pepper on my seafood. The frozen drinks are refreshing and you can mix flavors.

Everything is good at Hook! Kids love the frozen lemonades, mom loves the fish, and we all love the fries and chicken. The phillys are delicious too. Only bad part is deciding what to get!

Hooks has and always will be one of the best fried chicken and fish spots in Minnesota. I hope the owner eventually remodels it. The place looks worn down and is located on Lake Street which doesn’t help because of the reputation of the neighborhood but trust me you won’t be disappointed in the food! It takes roughly 10-30 minutes to get your food but is worth every minute.

Very clean restaurant, fast service, tasty food. The seasoned fries are amazing!! We had the walleye and some pizza puffs, which were very good. Fish is breaded in cornmeal and was flaky and well-seasoned. Prices are reasonable, and its one of the only places where you can get sambusa, Italian beef, walleye, and Chicago dogs all under one roof.

They doing a real good job here. Place is clean even if most of the clientele is not. The Philly cheese sandwiches and the Gyro burger are fantastic, the catfish is very good and don't get me started on how good the chicken fingers are. Give it a shot.

This was my first time visiting Hook's and I am happy with it. The hush puppies were perfect and the catfish was very good. I think this is also a very good price for the amount you receive. I will be going back soon.

This place is like JJ's fish and chicken. It's basically deep fried chicken wings and various types of fish fillets, and sides like fries etc. I think it's a southern thing to include a slice or two of wonder bread to soak up oil and make a sandwich. The place looks run down and scary but it's not. Super good food! Highly recommend!

He asked if I wanted lemon pepper on my food. I told him no. He asked for and looked at my order receipt and then he put lemon pepper on my food. This was after he had called my number and then made me wait another ten minutes while he served someone else.

Tried for the first time today with bf and I am happy to say it is better than Popeyes (thankfully), so we know where to go for fried chicken and shrimp! I tried the #1 combo which is 2 fried catfish filets and some shrimp. Surprisingly, our fried food was hardly greasy! Coleslaw and fries were good too! The parking lot was heavily littered, so that could use a lot improvement. Staff was friendly and service was good although it could be a bit quicker.

Portion size was good for the price. The quality of the food was decent but not great. The booths and tables were falling apart and dirty. I hate to be too harsh because if I had to eat there again I would, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

This food is so good! It reminds me so much of home (CHICAGO). I hate that it's 1hr and 30 mins away though. I can only get it when I'm visiting my Bestie, or picking my Mom up from the airport. I make sure I get it every time I go. You can not find food like that in Rochester or anywhere close to there. I'm hooked on Hook's fish and chicken! I know that was lame, but I don't care.

Good fish chicken and gizzards but they're charging extra saying it's a wing shortage and the wings aren't any bigger. So right now it's not worth it when you almost pay double for meal.

Had their gyros today. Outstanding. And some of the best fries Ive ever had. Free big jalapenos and big pickles. Place is clean, service was great. Sandwich was so hot and fresh I had to let it cool a bit. Ill be back. Often. They also have fresh fried walleye, perch and catfish. Slaw, fried zuchinni, lots of good stuff. Got get something. And they deliver. Ok, updae. I was just there, had 2 hotdogs. They were great, piled with FRESH toppings, and as usual the fries were excellent. You wait a bit for your order, but thats because its all fresh and made after you order. And the staff are very friendly and greet you like youre an old friend. Ill be back there soon.

The jumbo shrimp plate was better than many sit-down seafood restaurants! Huge, fresh shrimp and crispy, seasoned fries. I will definately go back to try the tilapia, chicken tenders and regular shrimp. A special shout-out to the friendly, young manager who personally thanked me for my business. He displayed real class and professionalism!

A family run restaraunt where the owner is the first to great you, working in the trenches and I could see he takes pride in everything he makes. I generally order the philly or chicken fingers( huge selection of food choices) and I swear, wondered how they deliver the hottest burned my. tounge, fresh every single time.. Because everything is made fresh after order. Certainly not the healthiest food around but the best quick huge menus of chicken , fish, and much more! Love it.

Okay so I just left hooks and I look at my receipt and I was charged a $1 service fee for using the ATM which is written on a piece of paper in front of the cash register that no one notices. I don't feel like I should be charged a dollar to come and give you my money I will not go there again until that is changed.
