Reviews of Hoban Korean BBQ

Make sure u have a reservation b4 going. They are busy for seating. They still take in walk ins, but the wait will b long.
1st time going back since covid. For some reason, the food just didn't taste the same. Maybe it's our taste buds, but we didn't leave feeling satisfied. Overall, food looks good n yummy but taste was ok.
Service was fantastic for being a very busy night. Our waitress was friendly, patience n outgoing.

Had a great experience! Went there for my birthday with my family. First time too also! The host was very friendly and I would also recommend booking a reservation in advance if all possible. Nice that they remain open late, but they still can be very busy. No menu, everything is online by scanning the QRC code on the table. Or, we never asked for one cause we saw the QRC code on the table. We did the korean bbq and had ordered the thick pork belly, marinated beef short ribs, bugolgi, some veggies and fried chicken wings with white rice. All comes with side dishes. All very good! We also ordered a lychee saku and it is nice to know it comes with a lychee fruit in it too (all in the silver pitcher, can’t see). Place looks clean and decent. Our waiter was very nice too! The reason why only 4 stars, street/meter parking only, no valet either. If busy, food/drinks can be delay, understandable.

Our first time here. We had a wonderful server who suggested some good food. Everything was delicious. We order beef and pork bulgogi, bibimbap and calamari stir fry. Bonchons were complementary. It’s a bit pricey, but if you go in a group it’s reasonable. Must try place in Minneapolis.

While in the Cities we found a place called Hoban Korean BBQ. We had to try as my cat's name is Hoban. lol It was our final destination for dinner for our trip to the Cities. It was a little weird when we went to the place. It didn't look open, and we didn't see anyone inside. So we were double checked Google and it said it was open, so, we went back and tried the door a couple of times and it was. I am glad we came back to make sure. The one thing we found in MN is restaurants serve a lot of food. We should have shared an entrée and appetizer. The food was good, just way too much. I realize that may not really be a problem, just something we were not prepared for.. We enjoyed all the food and would recommend.

Really love this place...Felt a lil awkward when we first glanced at the menu(as far as what, how much and how to order) but our waiter was very friendly and helpful in navigating the menu, suggesting options, and answering all of our questions.
The prices on the menu were quite reasonable( BBQ/self grill) around $15-40 per meat depending on what you choose(enough for two ppl). A lot of sides come with a single meat order and glad our waiter informed us beforehand or we would've ordered way too much.
There are tons of other dishes and options (huge menu) beside the BBQ but we came for the BBQ experience and left fat and happy.
It was a fun experience and would definitely do it again.

Customer service was excellent! I'd say food was alright. We ordered pork belly, beef bulgogi for the KBBQ, seafood bibimbap, chicken bibimbap, and Tteok-bokki.
Cathy Bauer
Fantastic service. Great menu choices. Excellent quality. Eaiter kept stopping by 5o refill the ample sauces and sides. They were out of the wings, but we left so dull I don't know why we would have ordered them. Loved every bite and will be back soon. My fave? The short ribs, without a doubt don't skip them.

Really enjoyed this Korean BBQ place. The food was fresh, the service was great, and it was a fun atmosphere. Watching peoples reactions when the food comes to the table is great.

This place was amazing. First time getting Korean BBQ. We came with some friends and couldn't have been happier! We got so stuffed from all the delicious options. The wings are so good!

I love this place! Second time having dinner and each time I received excellent customer service and delicious food! The staff is quick, recommends great items off the menu and have great attitudes. I always make sure to leave a massive tip because they provide a wonderful experience. Try the Kimchi pancake, chicken fried rice and strawberry soju.

My to go Korean BBQ place in Minnesota. The service is great and staff is always friendly. I would say the drinks are super expensive in my option. Otherwise, food is great!
Joey Jr
It was worth the wait, the kimchi fried rice had the right amount of spice and great flavor and the chicken was so crispy.
Valrae Svec
This was our first experience with this type of restaurant. It was outstanding. Food was amazing and the staff was so nice and helpful.

The service was great and so was the food. We ordered some mandu, i was expecting it to be a bit crunchy but it was a little soggy. Flavoring of the meat was nice for bulgogi and other meat. Wpuld come back here again on weekday since it doesn't get too busy.

It just wasn't as good as the price and ambience would have you believe. Ive had much more flavorful Korean food at much cheaper places, like Korean Restaurant in Dinkytown or Mirror of Korea in St. Paul.
Seafood stir fry was very underwhelming. Very little flavor, and many of the seafoods were overcooked. Cold noodles were bland, but passable and had plenty of radish. Spicy noodles were better just because they had some spice on top of the bland flavor.
My top two dishes were the kimchi pancake (very good!) and the pork feet (spendy but yummy). The pork feet still could have had more pungent flavor.
It's been 7 years since I've been here (ate the overpriced BBQ with friends then, and left hungry). I will go to cheaper places any time, for better food. Service was nice, anyway.

Fantastic! Went with 4 people, and got a huge smattering of food, which was all delicious. Every small plate that came with the bbq meat entree was so unique and flavorful in its own right. The meat itself was phenomenal, incredible poignant marinades that proved the grill-your-own-dinner was more than just a show.
Also had the wings and a cold noodle dish. The wings were the best wings i have had in a really long time, so crispy and had a great zesty kick to them. The noodles were great, came in a large quantity, which gave me plenty leftovers!
Presentation was so beautiful, cannot wait to go back and try more.

I actually every so often work at this facility. This restaurant is a God awesome place to eat. Being work staff we are wonderful and on time. The cool parties you have a heat tray in the middle of the table and you can cook your own bass meal and it's awesome. You can order other foods precooked but everybody doing it. I know the food is fresh . Your making it. Lol. They want a couple of these restaurants and they do so well. We were slammed this last weekend it was fun . If anything . If the one time that you do take my advice please come here please it's so much fun.

Had reservations for my mother’s 52nd birthday, did not get seated until 20 minutes later. The hostess was busy also waiting tables, cleaning, and all other positions. We did not see our server for about another 15 minutes, we didn’t get water for another 10 minutes. We ordered drinks to which the waiter said he was also the bartender but didn’t know how to make any of the drinks we wanted. Our grill didn’t come until an additional 20 minutes. Our meat didn’t come out for another 20 minutes, we had to ask for utensils to be able to eat it. Our rice came out way later, we had grilled and ate all our meat by then. It took awhile to get our bills, we then saw that one of the drinks ordered was way overpriced. $17 for a Moscow mule, that was short on the Moscow. Our waiter said that’s the industry price, which the industry price is around $10. We asked to speak with a manager and was told he was too busy cooking and would not be able to take a second to speak with us. All in all, the service was completely awful. We are extremely disappointed. The food was good but I would not recommend based on the terrible service.

Great food
A little slow on the food
Great ambience
Courteous server
I love the Grand entry door…

I love their customer service, really friendly and helpful. We ordered Yuk Gae Jang, big amount of food 👍 tasted great. We also ordered Mandu, it's cold when we received it but they still good.
Second visit, we visit in person. Love the Korean BBQ, will be back!

This was a GREAT experience! Everything was delicious and reasonable priced. We tried the lychee soju, glass noodles and a couple of BBQ items. Give it a try! It is definitely in my rotation now.
P.S. the portion sizes are great! Keep that in mind. We ordered way more than we needed, but I’m super excited for my lunch leftovers. 😁

If you plan to come here on the weekends Make a reservation ahead of time by calling in. I went on a Friday night and I did get a table waited 15 mins I didn’t have a reservation. They have lots of different meat choices plenty of options and great side dishes. My favorite side dish was the potato salad super yummy. I will definitely be back it’s not cheap to enjoy this experience plan on spending over $50+ for two people.

We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated about 15 minutes late. That wasn't that big of a deal, but then we didn't see a server until 7:30 and didn't get our food until 8. We only ordered food that we would be cooking ourselves at the table, so I don't understand why it took so long to get our food.
The food itself was just okay, definitely not worth the long wait or the prices since we were cooking it ourselves.
It was also incredibly loud, so it's not a good spot for a date night unless of course you don't want to actually talk.
May Sone
My husband and I choose the BBQ option and it is a bit pricey but the portion was plentiful... I really like the spicy soft tofu stew a lot too. Overall the food was delicious and service was good. I would go and eat here again.
Sophia Tran
The food was delicious and our server was great. Highly recommend the Beef Bulgogi for grilling!
shayna karuman
The wait staff was pretty overwhelmed when we went but it was also a Saturday, not a lot of vegan/ veg options here which was a sad point for our group. However the KBBQ was very good and fresh and sides were amazing! Nice ambiance as long as you’re okay with loud environment with tables being very close and echo,
Tina
Deliciously flavored meat as always. Expect to spend time there as it takes a while to cook the meat unless you're eating only the thinly sliced bulgogi. And you and your clothes will smell like bbq which you should expect. They were quite busy at 5pm Saturday night. We hadn't made reservations and got one of the last tables. I'll make sure to reserve next time. The servers are a bit overwhelmed so we had to make an effort to get their attention but they were very nice.
Annisa Wilke
Great place! Friendly staff and lots of food served very fast. Delicious food and a fun new experience for my friends and I for not having done a Korean BBQ before but we learned quick.
Claire Eseul
Absolutely LOVE Hoban! Brings me back to my Korean roots 😊 you get to grill at your table right in front of you. If you don't want to grill, you can just choose a dish that's already cooked from the menu. Their meat is juicy and savory 🥩🍖 …

This was my first time eating out at a Korean BBQ restaurant. I didn't love my first time BUT I absolutely didn't hate it either. I enjoyed it for the most part. We ordered the bulgogi beef, porkbelly, shrimp tempura and pan fried dumplings. They do serve you side dishes and vegetables. My friend and I thought the side dishes were pretty good with good amount of portions. I liked the bulgogi beef! I thought it was seasoned pretty well. The shrimp tempura tasted great, the pan fried dumplings was pretty good too. However I do wish there was a bit more meat. I gave this a 4 star because my friends water cup was not washed throughly nor was his silver spoon. It still had leftover gunk that was NOT washed off. Once in a while, if I'm up for K.BBQ again, I'll probably go back and order different plates. But if you enjoy eating out in large groups, check out this spot!

Nah this mug mid fr over priced $20 for a bottle of soju vs $10 at total wine. Save your money and go to Fogo de Chao instead better quality meat and endless salad bar
Vinh
Good experience here!
The food was very good and decently priced for the amount of food in each dish.
Waiters were patient and nice.
Definitely coming back!

Uptown prices ✓amazing atmosphere a little louder than because of all the fans pulling out the smoke from the grill that's right in front of you but honestly you can perfectly here the people you're sitting next to and across from. Vegetables top-notch ✓style of meats fresh✓amazing wait staff and personable bartenders✓I've been to other places where they cook food in front of you but I would say this is my favorite it could be because I like grilling I don't know. Just amazing and tasty!

I've been to most of the Korean restaurants in MSP/St. Paul over the years, and I lived in South Korea for two years. This place has the most authentic Korean food I've had in years in Minnesota. Thank you!
Chia 'Tia' Stallings
This was my second time here but I've never had their Korean BBQ. Came in on a Thursday evening and was seated right away. The host was great and accommodating. We had a party of 4 and ordered BBQ items, shrimp, bulgolgi and pork belly. We started with a bottle of soju, which was a good size and gave each person at least 4 shots each. Portions were reasonable and price was as well. Started with Korean kimchi pancakes and calamari and one vegetarian kimchi tofu soup plus two bottles of soju. Total bill came to $187. With the amount if food and service, it was reasonably priced split between 4 people. I'd visit a few more times when I have a craving for a good Korean meal. :)
YeongMin Ha
The best Korean BBQ in this part of the United States period. Food is great, atmosphere is great, waitstaff is great (remember to flag down waitstaff as needed by waving at them with palm down, as they will leave you alone in typical Korean habit).
They have plain and flavored Soju, Makgeolli, and Hite.
Most of the time they have Kpop playing on the TV and speakers.

I love the beef here and the spicy chicken was great also. I recommend it for everyone to try it out. The employees are nice and respectful as well.

Making reservations over the phone was easy. Upon arrival, my wife and I were greeted by Rudy. He was welcoming and very pleasant to talk with. Our server was Cody. He was laid back and very chill. The food came out exceptionally quickly. This was around 4:30 p.m. As this was our second visit to the restaurant, we had ordered more variety than the first experience, and it was all worth it. Throughout our experience, Cody and Rudy were very attentive. Overall, my wife and I will be coming back as the food and the staff were terrific! Thank you!!

My sisters and I took my mother here for a weekend dinner. It was all our first time ever with Korean BBq. We loved every small dish, side dish , meat sauce and veggie. It was so much fun our waiter was very helpful and had awesome suggestions. i will def go again and again. i was bummed there wasnt any sake tho 😩☹️ Lol. But my margarita was 🔥🔥🔥

This was our first visit to a Korean BBQ place. Fortunately we were with some friends who helped us navigate which made it a little less intimidating. The food was very flavorful and getting to try all the different sides was an experience in itself.

We come here when we want to get some Korean BBQ in the Minneapolis area. Great atmosphere and the staff are great. A little bit on the pricy side but a variety of side dishes that come with the meat which I love! It's also in a great location as well. Yummy!!
Tu-Uyen Tran
We stuffed ourselves here. The complimentary banchan (small appetizers) was so enjoyable we must've eaten too much of it; the pickled radishes were especially good. Then we had the pillowy/crispy kimchi pancakes, which I think was our downfall. I had the seafood in fermented bean broth and was barely able to finish it. I really enjoyed it but wish I'd taken it easy on the pancakes. Our server was really great, always appearing just as we needed her.
Alondra Diaz
Absolutely delicious food, phenomenal service, great vibe. If you're a Korean BBQ lover like myself, you will not be disappointed. Amongst one of the best K BBQ'S i've been to. The atmosphere is just so fun.
Wander_Woman
Amazing food, service and atmosphere!
We had a reservation for after the recent Dreamcatcher concert. Due to traffic, we were late and called to make sure that was ok. They generously allowed us to keep our reservation with 1/2 hour left to close. We appreciated this so much as my daughter had been looking forward to trying their food for ages.
And oh my goodness, was it worth the wait!! Every dish was incredibly delicious. We had mul mandu and pajeon for appetizers and bibimbap for our entree. Perfect prepared and heavenly. Loved the bottomless sides, too, especially the kimchi and the sesame broccoli.
Great service as well. Just all around a perfect 10. Def coming back. :)

Food was great! Even though it was busy the waiters/waitresses managed to keep up. Our food came out pretty fast and it was hot. The fun part of it all was getting to cook the meat.
Lin Brown
Food was good and came quickly. Service was slow following the food but they were down two people so the staff were really busy.
Stef Masterman
The food here was so good! It was really fun having your own grill and being able to go through the meal at your own place. Definitely more fun with a small group, we were 4 people and it was perfect so that we could try a variety and share everything.
Carl
Food was pretty good, service pretty lacking. Felt like my party got the short end of the stick as we didn't get any fat to oil the grill. Waiter also forgot about our water and we had to ask to get it. Just strange things that other tables got we didn't.
Raj Vinjamuri
Having KBBQ here was a blast back in time three weeks when I was having KBBQ in actual Seoul, South Korea. The flavors of the marinade, the cuts of meat, and the side dishes (kimchi, sprouts, etc.) are all very comparable to the authentic Korean tastes.
I went to a few KBBQ places in Seoul, though mostly in the Itaewon area, which caters to foreigners a bit more. Returning to Minnesota, I was hopeful I could find a decent place to share the experience with loved ones here in the Twin Cities, and Hoban fulfilled that. The food and flavors are wonderful.
It's arranged with tables that comfortably fit 4, but I saw parties more than double that size. It was quite loud on the Sunday night I went, so I can only assume it's loud most other regular nights. Service was average (nothing notable).
Drinks are varied in price, but if you want Sogu and beer, you'll be spending a lot more than in Korea. $4/shot minimum (when a bottle was $2-3 in Seoul). The liquor variety is above average, with several East Asian mainstays as well, such as Tsing Tsao (which I was disappointed they were out of). The meal for two runs about $25/person.
Second visit:
The music is very loud and it's hard to hear one another talk.
Beer on tap runs out fast, where there was only one beer on tap left on a Friday night.
Food was still just as tasty.
Neal Margolies
Really enjoyed most of the food, it was a little busy and service was somewhat slow but that’s to be expected on a Friday night.
N S
The staff was super friendly and the food was great. The hostess even allowed me to use her charger which saved me from a very long walk to my hotel. Just for that alone, I give it 5 stars
Arthur Bishop
Love the service. Can't wait to try cooking table side meal. Good drinks. Great pear saki if you enjoy sweet.

The best K BBQ place in Minnesota very clean also friendly staff been there so many times already and will definitely go back again and recommend to anyone..

Went with friends and had a great time. The waiters were prompt, nice, and very helpful. As it wasn't my first time eating kbbq I knew what I wanted, however my friends were new to the whole experience and our waiter gave them recommendations that they truly enjoyed.
Reasonably priced menu and both the quality and quantity of food was great. Cooked and uncooked foods arrive to table within a reasonable amount of time. And the waiters check in without being overbearing. Our water and complimentary sides were consistently taken care of without much prompting.
Sans reservation we were seated within 20 minutes, but I would recommend that you do put in a reservation as the place definitely became busier during our time there.
It is a very lively place, so expect that if 1) you're sound averse, and 2) concerned about covid. However, the staff is masked and promptly clears and cleans each table. There are dividers in the tabled area, and booth seating is staggered as much as possible based on restuarant volume. As I am still concerned about covid myself, I very much appreciated this dedication to staff and customer safety.
As mentioned before the menu is reasonably priced for kbbq, as a group of 3 we paid ~$130 (an app, 4 meats, bottle of sake) inclu. gratuity.
Should I be in the mood for kbbq in the future I will be returning to Hoban. I also would highly recommend this place based on my experience.
Other details: went on a Sat. before 6p in March, sat in the back by the kitchen, place is neither cold nor warm, you will be grilling your own food for bbq option (just in case you're unaware of the traditional kbbq experience), everything from the floor to the lighting is very clean, lighting isn't overbearingly bright, for personal utensils you recieve chopsticks and a spoon (idk if forks are available), there are a few tables and chairs at the front for parties waiting to be seated. Parking easy to find, 2h of street meter was enough. No rush: they aren't forcing you out for your table/rushing you through the experience.
Houa Pha
Went during dinner time so it was busy, waited about 20 minutes for a table and then server just took longer due to take our order.
Chanantorn C
Finally found the Korean bbq in Minneapolis! The meat taste amazing. I ordered pork belly and pork bulgogi because you need to order at least two order out of the bbq menu to open the grill. There were like 10 different side dishes and you can get more if you want. Our server was so nice and he kept coming to ask if we need more side dish. Btw, the rice is not included in the bbq menu.
Elizabeth Gwinn
Wonderful experience! The food was show-stopping and the service super helpful. Our waiter was the best—he offered great suggestions on what to eat and how much to order, and gave us the scoop on Sac Sac! We bbq’d bulgogi, shrimp, and veggies. (We wouldn’t recommend getting JUST veggies, but they were a great complement to the meat.) The side dishes were terrific, especially the scallion salad and the bean sprouts. We can’t wait to go back!

Great food, good service and amazing experience!

I consider myself a regular customer to this restaurant, I've order online for a while but all the time I do order extra noodles and pay extra for those noodles seem to me they always forgot, I get it one time but all the time it's ridicules, don't take me wrong the food it's delicious and I love it but to me it's not right to pay for something and then you don't get it all the time, I always spend $ 70.00 or $ 100.00 box all the time .
Leidy Monsalve
It was my first time going to a Korean BBQ, the experience was amazing! I love the way you crook your own food, all the variety of food and how tasty it was. I totally come back there with friends and family.
Darlyn Vue
Was just here last Saturday. Food was great, we had a big order. They forgot to bring out our jumbo shrimps for the grill and one other item I think was the baby octopus for the grill which they brought out, but still didn't bring the jumbo shrimps (which they brought out at one point) ... And.... we ordered spicy wings (totally forgot about the spicy wings til the next morning) and never got it. We tipped a good amount, not even realizing that we never got what we paid for. It's totally understandable because they're super busy, but when I told them that we never got our jumbo shrimps, they kept questioning us and it got awkward. Would go back, but may be won't ever make a big order again.
Ron P
Very good food. All fresh foods. Wait staff was very friendly.

Personally not the best Korean BBQ I have been to, but its solid in a great location of Uptown. Good for taking a date! The prices are a bit too high.
Nina Yang
My date and I came here for Valentine’s Day, and I don’t regret coming here! It was a 2 hour wait for walk ins, but the manager and staff were friendly and would always check up on us. This restaurant just upgraded their capacity, but it still felt safe to eat here. Our server, Daniel, was on top of everything and provided exceptional service. He was detail-oriented and would always check on us. The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. Not only that, but their staff was also giving out free roses and taking Polaroids to capture the moment! Thank you for a memorable Valentine’s!
Josh Montenegro
Great place. Sadly, not all you can eat, but the portions are great. Expect to be full with two orders of meat between two people..! Highly recommended. Get there early, though, place gets busy quick!
David Gindra
Had the heukdwaeji samgyeopsal and bulgogi and both were good. Somewhat expensive (as expected) but worth it for the fun of grilling your own stuff (make sure to get at least 2 bbq items!). Haven't been to other Korean BBQ places in the cities but it was close to what I remember having in Korea.
Robert Berg
My biggest question was how to rate this restaurant after going. I had a few obstacles going into my experience at this restaurant. 1) my party of 4 had a reservation ahead of time for 630pm this past Friday. We were not seated until closer to 7pm. This wouldn't have been as disturbing if we could have waited with a cocktail or other beverage from the bar as we waited. Our host explained that was not possible and that we would have to wait to be seated. I still laugh at that happening to us as we waited to be seated. 2. There is a learning curve to utilizing the menu. I looked up the menu earlier in the day to decide my choices since this was my first Koean bbq experience. The online menu is tough for the first time visitor to understand, luckily, our server was knowledgeable and helpful to answer our menu questions. 3) I was not prepared to cook my own meats! In reality I didn't understand before going, that the experience included you cooking your own main protein at your in table gas grill. I really didn't see the fun in going to a restaurant to cook my own food. Usually I would desire to enjoy someone else cooking a meal better than I can cook.
I can appreciate how this experience may be a fun venue for some, however, I will continue to explore other restaurants in the future.
Key takeaway....play the video on the restaurant website before going. The food we did order was tasty. I was happy to experience Korean BBQ. For a party of 4 dining with a beer each, expect to put down 200.00+ sorry no pics taken. The pics on the website are accurate.

First time to Hoban, I had a really good time! It was an interesting dining experience and eating was fun in itself! The establishment was clean and it didn't take long to get our food, but I need to come back and try another dish before I can give that fifth star. Two good dishes in a row and it deserves it!
Lauren Moffett
We stopped by here after a concert got out and really enjoyed our experience. We had never been to a Korean BBQ before and the staff was friendly and helpful. And the food was SO GOOD. i would recommend getting a reservation most nights though. We learned that we came on a pretty quiet night but it was still pretty packed for how late it was!
Sri Vinjamuri
Had a good time. Service was good. Food so so. Pricey for a place that doesn't give enough cutlery and serves dipping soy sauce in plastic containers.
Isabelle W
I would recommend making a reservation before coming here because it gets very crowded. The food was also a little expensive but it was delicious!
Robert Walbon
My 2 Beautiful Daughter's took me out for my Birthday . They brought their boyfriends and children . They made reservations for 8p. The waiter started off slow , BUT brought it strong !!! Our waiter was polite & friendly and knowledgeable . He was able to guide us in our choices . ( note ) I asked for an adjustment in temperature . DON'T !!! As a Great Chef once said " Food is ready when it ready !!! . ( lesson learned ) I guess I'm not to OLD 2 Learn 😜 We ordered Pot sticker , Chicken wings and Calamari (< was the star ) for our appetizers. For our entrees we had Beef short ribs ( oh yeah ) & Lg spicy Shrimp ( oh yeah ) plus Pork belly ( thick Bacon , w/ sauce ). FYI if you want fast . ( Panda express ?????) This place is a DINING EXPERIENCE !!!!!!! I Suggest for 1st or ROMANTIC Date . Playfully cook and Feed each other 😘.
Savannah Leasman
Loved it here! It can get a bit pricey (we had one of their drink carafes, delicious, but definitely for sharing among a few people), but it's such a fun experience! And everything tasted really good, too. Will definitely be returning at some point. A great place for a double date, too, I would think!
Jared Paulson
Ordered one of the stir fry's with calamari and baby octopus. It was scrumdiddliumcious! Spicy, good burn in the mouth, not too harsh. Also the waitress was very polite and patient with my deaf colleagues. Very deaf friendly lighting. It's understandably a bit pricey but the seating is a little uncomfortably close to other tables leading to distractions. Also the Tables have grills in the center with overhead fans that fail to get all the fumes. Over all would still recommend.

Nestled in Uptown, Hoban is a fantastic place for those looking to enjoy Korean BBQ for any occasion. The interior is undeniably classy but not pretentious, creating an atmosphere that's appropriate for both formal celebrations and impromptu dinners with friends.
The menu selection is large, and though takes a moment to get used to is ultimately quite descriptive.
The food itself is delicious, with cuts clearly picked with care and rubs and marinades packed with flavor. Even beyond the BBQ itself there is plenty to choose from for anyone seeking Asian fare.
Overall Hoban is a great choice for anyone seeking a satisfying, delicious meal in a modern atmosphere, so long as you're willing to pay the cost associated with such a quality establishment.

Amazing food!!! prices are reasonable for What the quantity is. Staff was amazing i enjoyed my experience especially because the server me and my friends had was very helpful, explaining how to eat the food and he overall made our dinning experience pleasurable. I didnt get his name but he has glasses and he kinda tall😂😂😂 so please reward him for his outstanding Service.

I'm going to start off by saying the food was amazing! We were a party of 6 and were seated without reservations very quickly. The waiter (whose name i don't know because he didn't introduce himself) came as soon as we were seated and served us water. We told him we were waiting for the other people in our party. After that, service just went down hill. We had to keep flagging him down in order to get any service. The appetizers came out with the dinner. 2 of us ordered the BBQ items and the meat was nicely seasoned. The rest of the food was awesome. We weren't offered a 2nd round of drinks. In order to get napkins we had to yell for him because he would not stop at our table. They didn't clear the plates away and just getting our check took forever. I'm going to assume the bad service is because they automatically included the tip in the check. I can't recommend the service - only the food.

Good food and great service. Check out their Weds. Nights as the vybz explodes into on of the best DJ hosting places in Uptown. #dsptv

Best Korean BBQ in the area... well, kinda the only one of this style. Sure you have to cook your meats yourself, but that makes for a great experience. We been here a few times and each time was really good. The meats are fresh and the cooked food was good as well. Service was good also, although they do get busy really fast around dinner time, so do expect some waiting.
Maddie Rose
The food was okay, although there is an after taste with the soup (Soleong Tang) and the jukbal, The jukbal, which topped a mix of greens, seemed to have been mixed with an herb that has a floral taste to it, which I find a little distracting. The fried chicken wings was fantastic, very crispy and savory with the spicy sauce.
Overall, I prefer the Hoban resto in Eagan, where taste and serving size is more favorable..
Lilacuity “Lily”
Amazing meat and side dishes!
I have been successfully put into a food sleep session.
Cheng Lee
Prices were quite expensive compared to different places of kbbq I've tried, quality is okay. They were out of a lot of wines also. Our menu and table wasn't well cleaned. Probably won't come back untill some improvements happen.
Jimmy Xiong
The food was bussing!!! Definitely worth your time if you are expecting authentic Korean bbq experience! The waiters were awesome and food was definitely worth the price you pay as a large group! Your girlfriend will love the date and experience! Definitely coming back to this restaurant!
Jose Gomez
Very nice place. Very roomy and covid sanitary. The food was delicious as well, the prices might make you flinch, but the portion size are well worth it. Plenty of things to choose from, the Kimchi fried rice with eggs is really good, splurge a little and get an extra egg or 2 thrown in. Would definitely recommend for a good date night out if you're trying to impress, but not blow the bank.

Good food good service. All my expectations were met. I left feeling full and smelling like bbq. Will definitely come back.
Moriah Hamstad
There were 6 of us total. It was our first time trying Korean BBQ and it was great! Our server Jangwoo was funny and very helpful. The food was delicious. We got Kimchi fried rice, a plethora of meats to grill, and Mandu. The Bulgogi beef was my favorite--so flavorful and tender. Definitely will be going again.
Manoj Moorjani
Amazing Korean BBQ dinner. One of my favorite places to visit. Great food and great place to bring friends and family.
Leah Brooks
Hoban is a great place to stop when you've got the itch for Korean and you have the time to spend to get a proper meal. I've never been disappointed in the food here. The soju is always good and the banchan rotates so you don't always know what to expect. The tofu jiga is amazing.
Heather Vickerman
This place was awesome! My servers were very helpful. Here's a tip: cut the meat first.
Haha my friend and I looked pretty funny trying to jam the meat chunks on the grill. But our server came and assisted us. Be prepared for them to change the grill from time to time. They keep your food from burning! Such a great idea. Very helpful. Delicious. I'm definitely going to be back!
And this time, lol I'll cut the meat first. 🤣
Chad Carroll
This was my 2nd time coming here the vegetables was amazing but the ribbon seemed very tough I was not excited with it you can't cook with Butters like open flame it's like our grill at home and I really didn't like that I was looking for more like the flat plate like I thought it was a flat plate like before but I guess I changed it up and it's not the same anymore so I mean unless you like this type of cooking where it has just dry meat I don't like dry meat.
Nyla Worker
The service was incredible and the food came in a reasonable time even though it was super busy. I would recommend!
Sean Skinner
The aroma of the grills as soon as you enter really invite you in and raise you expectations on how the food will be. Sure enough the food met and exceeded those expectations. The food was amazing, the waitress was very kind and attentative. Will go here again if ever in the area!

Great experience!
Food was delicious. HH are such a great deal as well.
Josh the bartender is very friendly.
See you again!

Was there for the first time with my wife and it was amazing. The service was great and the food came out extremely fast. The waitress was very helpful for her knowledge of what to drink and having us select more than one drink since they were running low on stock.
Rozlyn Myer
As two individuals who were inexperienced with Korean BBQ, we were very impressed.
The staff were all very friendly and answered any questions we had (even if they were dumb questions).
As for the food: it was delicious! It was fun being able to cook our chicken and steak. The food was well seasoned and marinated. Additionally, I tried the steamed dumplings and those were just as good!
kawaii
tried Korean bbq for the first time for my birthday it was great! waitresses were all super nice and helped with all our requests. we were at a booth, and i thought it was pretty clean and safe since they had shields between each one and saw them use disinfectants between each customer use. it is a bit on the pricier side since it is in uptown, but worth it bc of the delicious food! will be back in the future :)
Hardik G
Great restaurant. Great food. Moderate prices as compared to other Koren bbq's in the city. But Service is subpar.
Also FYI, if you're paying via credit/debit card an additional 3.36% charge is added to your total.
There's a default 3.36% discount for cash payments. Hence all the prices on the menu are set to default cash payment rates at 3.36% discount.

My family and I got the bulgogi, 2 sesame beef orders, short rib, and the pork thick bacon for our entrees and the mandu as an appetizer. There were 6 of us and it was the perfect amount of food. The sides that came with the entrees were good, but they only gave us 6 small dishes so each person got 1 bite/piece which was disappointing since we want to have the sides with the entrees. The bulgogi was the best-thinly sliced and very flavorful. The rest of my family really liked the short rib then the sesame beef, personally I liked the sesame more than the short rib, but both are good options. Good korean bbq, fun experience, definitely pricier, but overall worth it if you're wanting to try a decent KBBQ place in the twin cities. Parking garage about 1 block away too if you're driving in.

Great place to have Korean BBQ with friends and family. Reservation is only for a party of 5 or more. If you have less than 4, expect long wait times. When I went, I had to wait for about 45 minutes for a party of 3, but it was around 6 PM when we got there, it was normal wait times. The food is great. The meat comes uncooked, which you then grill yourself to however you like. The prices range between $16 to $25 per plate for your meat, and the portions are somewhat small for what you pay. Great place to eat once in a while.
When you are eating, I do suggest you ask for a big plate of lettuce for your meat as it is a free filler compared to rice which was about $2 for a small bowl.
Servers were pretty good. If your grill looks messy they replace it for you, only bad part is you now would have to wait for that new grill to heat up to resume grilling again. I did have to ask a couple of times for water refill, but they give you a whole pitcher to fill your water, which is super nice.
Jennifer Dippo
You don't just get a meal here, you get an experience. Had a great time with friends and the food was delicious.
Tahirah Crawford
Pretty good food. Wish they had sake by the glass, but by the bottle was OK, too. Have been to some all you can eat places for nearly the same price, but the food was good. Two neighboring tables that ordered the same thing received sauces and sides that we did not receive, but we didn't feel like begging. Our grill apparently went out shortly after being started. No one came to check that it was hot, but they did at all the tables around us. I started it and monitored it myself. Better attention to detail would be a plus...as would a potato salad side. The service was friendly, though.
Seth Porch
We really enjoyed this place. If you go make your trip worth it and get meat platters to grill yourself. The staff were friendly and helpful. The plate sizes are generous. If Korean BBQ is not on your list of go-to fun meals then you need to add it!
Bicky Nguyen
A fun experience & friendly staff. It is quite the busy place. Food take a little while to get to your table, but their drink menu & options will keep you busy. Prices are a little steep compared to the Korean BBQ places I have been to all over Toronto. They do have gluten-free options, as most asian marinades are not. Do not let the prices scare you away, you only need just a few BBQ items and a signature dish.
A great place to hang out with friends, over some good food & fun experience!!
Jou Xiong
The food was delicious! My best friend and I had the BBQ items and they were delicious. Maria was our waitress and she was amazing! She was very patient and continuously checked on us to make sure everything was going well for us! Would definitely recommend!
Kunfewe Mang
Water wasn't refilled consistently for a large group of 10-15 people. only got 2 small canisters. To go box wasn't given even though they had asked if we wanted any. waited for around 10 plus minutes for the waiter to return but he did not so we paid and left. Quite pricey as well. I would stick to cooking the raw foods instead of their signature dishes.
Kyle Engstrand
Great food and a dining experience different from other restaurants in the area. The main thing that sets this place apart is the fact that you cook your food right at the table. I've not had much Korean food and was unfamiliar with most the dishes but our waiter was really helpful in picking out meals and gave us a quick tutorial about how to cook and pair the different parts of the dishes. Wonderful experience and am eager to return.
Peter Neururer
Love this place, best grill your own Kbbq in the cities imo. Try the egg soufflé for a savory/fluffy appetizer! Even take out offers a whole tray of Bonchon is provided complementary, which was a nice remembrance to my time in korea vs most places in MN that try to charge $5 for a side of kimchi
Sao Vang
Tonight was my family 1st time eating here! The food was good and service was awesome! All the servers was very aware of everything that we needed! Will be a returning costumer!! Oue server gave us a free soju due to my wife's birthday! Thanks Josh!!!😀😀😀 …
Maegan Barberan
The food was great, my only issue about this Korean BBQ is that the service was so slow. We waited for over an hour for our food. Overall, it was good.
Patrick O'Brien
My wife is a Korean and we lived together in Korea for two years. This place brings back all the great memories of the food we loved when we lived in Seoul. I cannot recommend this place highly enough to any. I will warn you. You must be slightly adventurous to eat here. Korean dining is community dining. This means everyone at the table shares an entree as well as side's. You can have everything from plain to spicy and everything in between. I have never had a bad meal here. Traditional food and drinks. Well worth it.
Ale G
This place was really good. We ordered pork and beef bulgogi from the BBQ section and the Spicy wings as an appetizer. Top that off with a cold beer and we were set! We didn't think it would be enough food, but it definitely was. In addition, there was plenty of varieties of side dishes and we could eat at our own pace. Only 4 stars because the waits are long. We waited almost 35+ mins for a table. Also, they were out of some of the beers we wanted to try out that night and rice is EXTRA. We would def. go back if we happen to be in the area.
Chasity Randleman
So good definitely worth every penny!!
Maria Lodyguina
This place is fun! We got here on Thursday at 7ish. The service was great, sides were decent and the marinated sirloin and (spicy!) baby octopus were fun to cook and eat! With that and veggie tempura and a bottle of saki to share was $35 a person. STEAL OF A DEAL.
Denz Evangelista
I’ve been here multiple times, and their service is always fast regardless how busy they are. I love the meat options. Hands down the best Korean BBQ in Minnesota
Yennifer Soriano
It was our first time eating here, and the overall experience was amazing. Our server, Leto (not sure how to spell his name) was amazing. He gave us a rundown of the menu, gave suggestions, and was very friendly. Food was wonderful and full of flavor. I recommend the Galbi. For anyone looking for a new experience, this is definitely the ppace to try. We will be back forsure.
Steven Moua
Always clean and well kept as same as the restrooms. Kind staff, quick with bring the food out, don't bother you every 10 seconds.
Linh Kieu (Femig)
It’s my first time here at Hoban BBQ in Minneapolis. We came in a group of 5, and Jangwoo was so freaking nice to everyone. He checked up on us to see if we need anything else for at least 5 times. We all really like him because of his professionalism, and his friendliness! It was such a pleasant experience. Me and my friends kept talking about him being so nice. Thank you Jangwoo. ^__^ You made my dayyy!
Isaac M
Hoban is a delicious option for dinner if your particularly hungry. It’s a Korean BBQ. If you’ve never been to one, it means each table has its own grill for you to make your food. The food is delivered to tables pretty quickly, but after getting your food, the service is pretty sparse, so just be sure to order any drinks while ordering dinner. You may not get many more opportunities. You can, but more often than not, we have to try pretty hard to get someone’s attention to order another. Despite this, it’s delicious food, and it’s totally worth the experience. It’s a great date or small group place.
Luke Wiley
Not even close to impressive, or worth the prices. Good servers
Satoru “San” Asato
Good atmosphere. Grilling at the table is fun. They don't replace the table grill top during the meal. Service is slow as servers don't watch tables, have to ask for service. Even with vents are each table, fumes of Korean BBQ seeps into hair, skin, and clothes. Make sure to shower and air out clothes away from bedroom.
Larry Leigh
Great traditional Korean BBQ, food was well prepared/marinated. Staff was friendly and helpful. Due to glass front doors being broken and boarded, come dressed for some coldness. Highly suggest reservations.
Ben
Had chicken fried rice, pork bulgolgi, vegetables and some beef. Food is a bit too expensive for it's quality of flavor, though it's still very tasty. Waitress turned off the grill before we were finished (we still had things on the grill), residual heat was not enough to finish and we were left with raw vegetables. This ended the experience on a sour note.
Zodiac Kokoro
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! THEY PLAY GREAT KPOP (Korean pop) MUSIC, THE FOOD IS GOOD! ALSO THE STAFF WERE SUPER NICE, CUTE AND FRIENDLY! Although the menu isn't as big as I'd like. It was a great experience. Nice and clean. I like it at night when the cool lights come on! The waiters were super funny and charming! 5 stars!! I will definitely be back before months end!
Sumii Cheng
We were there very late on a Tuesday night. There were only two or three other people left. They were about to close but let us ordered. The food was good and the portion was large. I had the best pajeon here. However, our yangnyeom chicken was undercooked. It was still raw. A waiter took our plate of chicken to showed the chef and then came back to convinced us that the chicken was not raw and that is just how Korean fried chicken looks like. I might not be a chef but I do cook. I know raw chicken when I see it. I've also lived in Korea for years and know how Korean fried chicken looks like and taste like. The waiter wasn't willing to take the plate away. However, luckily another waiter came and was willing to take the plate away for us. Other then that, everyone was nice and didn't rush us even though it was past their closing time.
Good food but just keep in mind to check the chicken before eating.
Matt Christianson
The Bibimbap was kept very warm by the smoking stone bowl it was served in, too warm perhaps! But it was better Bap than Bonchon, but not as good as Bap and chicken in St. Paul. The ambience here is much nicer though and suited for a date night which I cannot say about the other 2 places I just mentioned.
Noukou Hang
Food is fantastic. To use the grill you must order 2 dishes to grill. This requirement was not on the menu. The side dishes were great. A must order is the rice pancake. Service was below average to almost poor. Had to ask multiple times to have our beverages refilled. Overall the food makes this place four stars.
Ivy Duchein
BBQ option was nice and a fun experience. Always love all the little side dishes. BBQ option didn't include rice, just lettuce, and there was no note of that on the menu.
Service was terribly slow and it seemed to be very under staffed. Our waitress was helping at least 9 tables from what we had counted, it took almost 15 min to get a drink order in, another 15 or so to get orders in, and she didn't come by unless we waived her down.
The music was terribly loud!
We had a group of 8 and we're split into two tables because obviously the tables couldn't be moved due to the grills, but a leaf insert in between the tables would have made it feel like we were all together AND it would allow a little more space on the tables. There isn't much room when the grill is in use.
Lydia Assefa
Really amazing experience with great food and great service. Everyone here is super friendly and helpful. Definitely a great place to go to eat with a group! Jangwoo was my server both times I’ve come and was always helpful and friendly!
Courtney Alivio
Visiting from Florida and our family took us out. They haven't had Korean BBQ before and the server was knowledgeable and helpful. We had a couple issues with the dishes but the server was ready to resolve the issues and it didn't ruin our experience. I'd definitely come back again!!
Beth Hee
Excellent food but very average and somewhat indifferent service. It could be a cultural thing but be prepared to ask for things, like napkins and silverware, more drinks and to clear the table. They need a ringing bell like other Korean restaurants have so staff knows when you need something. They could just be avoiding a lot of unnecessary interruption from the meal but many customers not accustomed to the traditions will take it as ambivalence. But the meat is AMAZING! It is so good. You come here so you can grill your own at your table. I recommend the bulgolgi. I don't know anyone who doesn't like it. We also enjoyed the spicy pork if you can handle a little heat. Please note, the bowl of rice also costs a $1 extra. Rice is usually included but due to the location and trendy atmosphere, things cost a little more. But the meat quality is worth it. Give this place a try.
Allison Plummer
amazing food, perfect for a date or a group get together!
Ngao Zhong Vang
Hoban serves one of the best kimchi soup ever. Customer service is excellent too. The sides that come along with the meats are superb. They taste just right. It would not be my last. Can’t wait to go back again.
Adam “Palmo” Palmerton
The food here is a pretty solid example of Korean BBQ, which is great to see in Minnesota. The problem here lies with two major issues. The seating and the price. Simply put the design on these particular tables leaves very little legroom, an issue i haven't experienced at other Korean BBQ joints around the country. And the prices are probably about 20% more than standard. That said the food is very good just mayve not 100% worth it
Grant Wells
Our first time at Hoban.
Very unique experience...
Seated around a table with grill built in.
Fresh seasoned meats and veggies to make your dinner.
Four of us shared 3 meats and veggies after our pot stickers appetizer.
Will definitely return for this one of a kind dining experience!
Pakou Vang
The waiting line takes a little long but great food and service. Our server Jangwoo is the best, super friendly and fun to talk. Definitely recommend this place and you won’t be bored if Jangwoo is in your team :)
ann 1222
The food and the side dishes are awesome! But, I gave it only 3 stars because the service isn't the best. Sometimes we would wait 20-30mins just to get our check and another long wait just to pay our bill. Or we would ask for a new grill and it takes a very long time for them to get back. Overall great food, but bad service.
Richard Whorton
Great service and amazing food. The whole atmosphere around grilling your own food is so well done that it leads to an amazing atmosphere.
Doug James
Love this place! depending on the time you go there might be a wait but it is well worth it. Godd place to have a conversation while grilling your own food. The endless side dishes are delicious. Reminds me of Korean BBQ places on the west coast.
Vaughn Hess Jr
Amazing food! The service was great and it was an good overall experience. If you do gon get the beef there. Best flavor and taste I has ever tasted in beef before.
Padra Moua
My husband and I just sat at the bar and got some drinks and appetizers. It was pretty good and the service was good as well. We were in at about 8:30 on a weekday and they weren't too busy. The staff was friendly. We will have to stop in another time to try the bbq.
Abigail Assefa
Such a good restaurant! We had the pleasure of having Jangwoo as our server, he was so kind and helpful! The food is AMAZING as well! Could not recommend this place enough :)
Kyren Tanner
Super good Korean bbq in uptown! Just wish the sides included rice
Serena Townsend
Rice has changed… possibly but the fried potstickers are still so yummy and that dipping sauce !! Made the rice way better !!! So not to bad of an experience

UPDATED POST COVID 19- Review on Delivery
Delivery rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Obviously, many of us have gotten the hang of ordering food and having it delivered. Hoban provides the best packaging and food. We would seriously order and pay the price for the level of attention in packaging and the flavors. (Way better than Hoban Eagan)
1. For multiple bags they label name and Bag 1 of 2 which prevents incomplete orders being delivered.
2. Side dish packaging- 👍🏻(see photo)
3. Labeling food containers 👍🏻

FOOD:
Moved here from California so I'll try to be fair on rating their bbq and service. Their food tends to be more on the sweeter side in marinade. For 1 order of Wang Galbi (Long rib) and 1 order of Black Pork Belly, I felt it was priced on the higher scale from a portion perspective. We also ordered the Seafood Korean Pancake or Pajeon. If you've never had this before, then this will suffice but I thought it was battered up with not as much/enough seafood that I'm used to.
We tried the YukHwe or Raw beef with egg aka Steak tartare. The crisp pear slices help clean up the heaviness of the yolk and balance the sweetness.
SERVICE:
I think there's a lot of room for improvement. Better communication from and between the servers. It's obvious that the servers are overwhelmed during and thankfully the owner or manager stepped in but it was disappointing to see certain sides or accompanying dishes not make it out on the table the first time. I think sesame oil with salt and pepper should always be placed on table. If there are 2 guests at the table, offering 2 sets of garlic/jalepeno peppers/pepperbean paste is given. To place 1 and expect it to last between 2 guests is being a bit too frugal IMO.
CONCLUSION:
This is probably the priciest Korean bbq for 2, I've ever seen. It's not a weekly place I would go to eat considering the value and service. I would recommend they improve their service to alleviate the burden of their high prices upon their customers.

I haven't enjoy korean food until i visited here with the wife and kids for my daughters birthday. Although the menu was a bit pricey. I had an order of the baby octopus and pork and it came on a sizzling hot plate, hot and sizzling. It tasted great and had a good spice to it, that was worth it. Also got "enough" meat for the bbq/grill (requires 2 orders of raw meat) it was expensive for such small portion but meat was tender and tasted great. Although the main dishes were better then others i had before the side dishes were nothing to be proud of. Besides that we had a great time and a great experience. Will sure to visit agian.
Mubassher Kamal
Oh man I can still taste the food! Ate so much and still went for more. Their beef/pork ribs were awesome and so was the bulgogi. Keep in mind that since it's a Korean style bbq, you do all the grill that is in the center of the table. Definitely recommend it
Cheng Xiong
Our waiter Daniel was awesome! Definitely made the experience fun. Food was Bomb.com!!

Im a gluten-free vegan
Altho its very limited to what i can eat, they accommodated and made me Japchae and i found it to be delicious!:)
(Asked for no soy sauce, no fish sauce, tofu instead of pork)
I just pick up and add my own soy sauce at home. I don't think it needs it- to me its reminiscent of pad thai but more clean tasting and simple(:
I'd recommend trying it ^-^
Apple Paw
First time there and the food we order was great but I give the sauce a 1 cause it for me it wasn’t that great and there are not a lot of dipping sauce options. But don’t take my words for it since we all have different taste😉 …
Alexander Paulavec
It's a pretty good place. The food is delicious and BBQing is fun. One problem is once it gets busy, you can smell there is too much smoke coming from the BBQ grills inside. Also the vents over the tables could be dusty. Can't they clean them? It's gross.
sabastian ly
Coming from Seattle this Korean BBQ spot isn't half bad. The portions are decent, and the prices aren't bad either. The food itself is average. But considering that it's in Minnesota it's probably the best Korean BBQ spot in the cities. Open space and neon lights, a really upbeat spot.
Carolina Maricic
We loved it and will come back again.
Kalynn Doebel
Great for both the toughest critics and the newbies to Korean BBQ. The marinated meat is tender and tasty with a good assortment of side plates. Service is quick and attentive. Priced around $18-24 for each BBQ meat. Stay later for drinks at the bar or explore the neighborhood, this place has it all.
Heather Spinar
I've been here twice. Once on a Saturday, once on a Sunday. The Saturday night service was terrible. Sunday night much better. The Korean BBQ is okay, if you've ever been to better, you'll know it. The tuk bokki is really not good here. Usually silky sweet and spicy, this was practically like fish sauce gravy. Plus the rice cakes were slightly under done. Not at all amused.
Soju variety is nice though. Also the BBQ itself isn't bad.
If you're looking authentic, go elsewhere. Otherwise it's fine enough for BBQ.
Michael McKenzie
Food was ok. The beef short rib was very good. The issue was no one really told us how to cook or do anything. So it is an expensive meal that you have to essentially make yourself if you order BBQ items. Difficult to say if I will be back. If the prices drop or the directions/service improved then maybe.
Dave Purscell
Food was great, but the real winner is the experience. We had a great celebration sharing each other's food choices. Oddly enough we all settled on the same two meat choices as our favorites.
Englong Tan
Normally Korean BBQ Restaurants are very expensive. I don't think that's the case at all. I get the bill and expect it to be huuuuge, but it looks like a good deal in the end and you get filled, as well as bring a lot home. The sides are really good, mainly the potato salad and the pickled jalepenos. No to the bean sprouts though, bleh. My waitress was Vivian, a feisty one. She's pretty friendly and does a good job with her services. I have gone there a lot this last year and most of the time she waitresses for me even if I was assigned a different waiter. I can fry eggs at home, but every time I go there, I always get a steamed egg souffle even though that is pricey.
*side note: tables are weird for big parties, that should be fixed*
Service: 5-star
Food: 4-star

Recently went to Hoban's in Uptown. There were good things about the visit and also not so good things. We started by getting seated and had our beverage orders. Had an attentive young man as a server to start but then they switch to a female server. She took our order and we waited. It was on a Saturday evening so there was a little wait for the food but not unreasonable. We did have to wait for a while and flag someone down to get out water refilled. Got our appetizers (fried dumplings) which were good and at a reasonable price. Ordered the kalbi beef with the bulgogi and a naeng myun.
You can judge most Korean restaurants by the quantity and quality of banchan (side dishes) that they have. The banchan that we got was okay but not as diverse as other places. Also the kimchee was not properly pickled. It tasted like it was just made that day without the proper time to ferment.
Then we got our primary order of meat but no rice. This is the only Korean place I've ever been to that charges extra for rice and almost $2.00 per bowel. If your gonna charge $20-$23 doors for a dish, I would think the rice would be included.
The Kalbi beef was pretty good with good flavor, some bites were a little tough. The bulgogi was good flavored as well and fairly tender. The naeng myun was bland and tasteless. The noodles were cooked well but there was no flavor to it.
At that time, we didn't see our server for a while so it wasn't worth bring it up to her. Finally had to track someone down to get our check and pay the bill. Overall, the experience was okay, considering there are not a lot of alternatives in the Cities to traditional Korean barbecue. Definitely not the best I've ever been too but also not the worse. The quality of food and service are areas that could be improved. If they did that, this place would be a great addition to the Uptown area.
Minimus Max
Decent but over priced and it's super packed on the weekends and service suffers. Everyone is nice and the food is OK but this place caters to Americans who have money. Nobody in actual Korea would pay these prices and he OK with this level of service. It's good on the weekdays when its less busy. Again, they're taking advantage of Americans who haven't been to or had korean bbq before
Ivy Lemonn
I went there earlier and the customer service wasn't as good. Waited 10 minutes for water, and I thought oh they must be busy. But as another group of people sat down next to us, they were served water before we did. I didn't think of much til later the brought out my rice cakes (Tteok-bokki) it said noodles were suppose to be served with it but there was none, I was disappointed when I saw the table next to us got the exact same thing *rice cakes* and they had noodles with it. Not satly at all, but they soon later came with a bowl of RICE! Opened it up and there wasn't any rice in there, looked like someone just scoop the rice out. Very disappointed and will not go back anytime soon.

made reservation for my birthday 1 week in advance. Evident in call log on phone. We had 15 in our group. Got there, they said they don't have us down for reservations. The host ignored us since there were 6 other groups ahead. Talked to manager. They got us seated for half the group, and waited for next table to open up to spread ou group out. Food was good, waiter nice, new, slow.

If you've been to a Korean bbq place before, then you know they're pricy. This one is no exception. Though, I do feel like they are more pricy than average. The Sokju drinks are even more so. It's an imported drink, but their price is almost inexcusable.
Despite this, the food was still good. The waitress was ok. Not a fan on their grill, but it did the job. Atmosphere was decent. Not a bad place if you've never been to one before.
Elle Bea
I absolutely love this place! Such a unique and fun experience cooking your own food. I recommend ordering the bulgogi. Added bonus: My boyfriend lived in South Korea and says it exceeds his expectations
Chet Woods
Choose from the menu and grill your own food at your table, comes with Korean sides. Throw in a bottle of wine and enjoy. Had a fantastic time.
Jason V
Huge portions and a laid back atmosphere make this a wonderful place for anything from family meals to date night. Just don't plan on having too much conversation as it can get quite loud.
Ethan Stein
The food is good, but they need to work out the system for serving. Instructions from the staff would be nice about suggested cook times for the various items. They also need to have more tongs and snippers available at the table, only having 1 set to handle raw meat and then serve you afterwards is not safe.
Hong Lee
Good place to have a good time with friends.
Helen Lin
Meat was pretty good...was expecting more flavor. The kalbi and bulgogi was the best. We had some weird issue with our grill where all the smoke was blowing straight towards one side of the table. Their waitlist process is really messy. Send someone there early to get their name and phone number down then go sit down for a beer somewhere because it's going to be a while.
Niff Tea
I'm not a huge foodie, but both the food and the whole experience were excellent. Having now been there both during peak and non peak hours I can say the service is not nearly as bad as I've seen reported in other views. The staff are all very eager to please and answer any questions.
This location is one of my new favorites.

We went to the cities for the weekend to hangout with friends in Mall of America and try food places that we don’t have in Grand Forks. My husband and I loves korean food! Hoban Korean BBQ satisfied our cravings! Very authentic. The only downside is they don’t open until 4pm. We waited for them to open before we drive home, it’s worth it though!
kemurphy00
Great experience, lots of food. Glad we had a friend who'd been to Korea and explained that it is expected that wait staff should not approach the table unless called. Definitely plenty to share with another couple.
Chaff Amatoury
We first thought it was pricey, then discovered that any barbecue choice comes with a zillion refillable side dishes of kimchee and other appetizers.. service was great, food was delicious and portions were perfect. Highly recommended!
Ken Andrews
The meat and the side dishes are all tasty. Energetic atmosphere and fine customer service. Overall an excellent experience. Would definitely recommend anyone to dine here!
Menga
Place is always crowded and you gotta call just to reserve. If you go right when they open, then you have a better chance at getting a table instead of coming late.
Adam Twardowski
Really excellent. As a lifelong fan of Korean food, I've been waiting for Hoban to establish a presence within the city of Minneapolis, and as usual they don't disappoint. The selection, quality, and service are all fantastic, as is the location. I look forward to returning.
Daniel Larson
The short ribs are great! Place was packed ask for Freddy and he'll take care of you.
Natasha Knoll
Very fun experience and food is also really good! We were a group of 6 and would definitely be back again! The staff is friendly and seem to take care of their customers as soon as they can. They deserve a 5 out of 5.
Julie Yang
Parking is hard to find in the street. However, there's parking ramp & fees depending how long you go for. Our waitress had good customer service. Korean BBQ taste great. Will come again!
Christopher Rogers
Food was delicious and well prepared. Heads up you need to order two bbq dishes minimum. Highly recommend the bulgogi, the short ribs were a bit chewy. Have to try everything!
Kan L.
A great place to self cook and eat! Prices were decent and great portions for a big group. Food was delicious and nice environment. Only minor problem was service was slow, otherwise everything was great.
Cole Dazell
So much fun to come here with the wife or any friends / family. Really cool atmosphere and the food is absolutely to die for.
daisha jones
Always have a nice time when coming here. The atmosphere is great and as close as you can get to Korean bbq - that you bbq yourself atleast. Lots of side dishes, yummy food, friendly staff overall always a good time and worth the money. Can be a bit pricey but great for a night out or a date night.
Suntho N
The food was great and the peach soju was honestly the best! We was so stuffed afterward and the bill wasn’t too bad. The place was very crowded but we didn’t have to wait at all which was very surprising for a weekend night. I 100% recommend this place.
Cindy Lee
I love coming to Hoban with my friends to enjoy the delicious KBBQ food. The only thing that I do not like about this environment is the lighting ( it hurts my eyes ) and how there are homeless people outside. I would only come here on the weekdays since the weekends is always jammed packed. Good job to those workers who works on the weekends...it gets super busy.
Andriy Bezpalko
Great Korean BBQ (they bring your your raw marinated meat and you cook it yourself). You can also order food prepared by then. Usually service is pretty subpar and it’s pretty pricey, but definitely one of the best Korean BBQ places in Minneapolis
Layce Thao
This is how all Korea bbq restaurant show be like. The food is amazing along with awesome side dishes. The services was good, they even come by and switched out your grills if it starts to have burnt stains after grilling for a while with a new clean one.
liana Clemens
Our server Jangwoo was amazing and the food was amazing too. Would 100% recommend to others. Also, a great place to bring people to try something new!
Christine Bae
Lunch is not open here. Early in the evening, it's a happy hour. Korean-style chicken wings and several menus are available at a low price. Korean barbecue is the main dish in this restaurant. There is a grill on the table where each barbeque can be eaten directly. Rice, kimchi, and some side dishes are given for free. And if you want, you can ask for refills fo side dishes, which is also free. Galbi is well seasoned, tender and delicious. It plays K pop and the Korean K pop video is always on the television screen. I strongly recommend K pop and Korean food lovers.
Windy Xiong
Love the food here, great every time I go back. The only thing I hate is the waitress and Waiters they take forever to serve you or even bring water. But overall the place is great.
Nidhi Desai
What I liked: the meats and food in general.
What could improve : Service definitely needs improvement, some staff were helpful, others weren't. Also, the booths are kinda small and inconvenient to share food!
Lamar Sanders
Food was great. The staff was very fast and friendly. They were more than willing to help when a glass was broken at a table
margo
Good HH specials on food and drink. It's pretty fun to order the raw meats and then cook them on the grill at the table. I don't know of any other Korean BBQ spots in the Cities that have grills at the tables for patrons to use.
Mama Bear
Great customer service!!! Most of the food we got was good but some werent as good... Still recommend going but be vigilant about some food choices. Very fun!
Yna V
Service isn't that great here, it's so hard to just have them refill our waters. I feel like the seasoning isn't always consistent, the first two times I had it the beef and pork was so good, but the last few times haven't been the same. I'm going to stay away for a while.
Johanna Sturm
Jangwoo, our server, was amazing! Great food and not too spendy when you’re with a group (plus you can order more). Love coming here!
Nancy Yang
Jangwoo was honestly the best and nicest waiter! Refilled our water and made jokes with us! I had a really bad day but he made it better!
Sayu C
It was Just okay.
RB
The food and the customer service was just good. The plates and spoons were not cleaned properly.
Carina Castillo
We ordered 3 varieties of Koren BBQ - samgyeopsal, bulgogi and short ribs - and I loved them all! Side dishes were superb, especially the kimchi, pickled onion and the scallions. We also ordered tempura and fried calamari. The ssamjang is also tasty. I am Asian so I definitely appreciate Korean food, and how it is prepared. This is not the place for hungry people who instantly want to eat as you have to grill your food. They play loud Korean music too, which may annoy some people.
Jeffery Kounlavong (Ch00n1990)
Was good ordered 3 plates of different meats for 2 shouldve ordered 2 since it was for 2 people but was great got some left overs. Would definitely go again especially with a group of people.
Soju-Like Kdramas
Hoban's is always amazing. The service is great and the food is excellent. Just be sure you are prepared to split the bill evenly with your party...its just easier that way if you buy a lot of meat to grill
Cynthia Durant
Saturday evening, got there about 6 wait staff was on it. Not even half full. By 7pm not a open seat and hardly see the wait staff at all. Good is fantastic. $2 per small bowl e rice.
Stefan C
Wednesday All Day Happy Hour is top notch. Go late at night to take advantage of $1 Soju Shots, $2 Rail Drinks, and $4 Apps. Oh and there is also a DJ who kept the crowd lively playing great music the entire evening so bring your dancing shoes!
Alec Barnick
Absolutely delicious. Beef bulgogi was fantastic. Server was very friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to go back!
Lynna Long
Had the bulgogi, dark bulgogi, grilled rice bowl, kimchi scallion pancake, and sake. Continuous refills on ban chan (pickled side dishes) had all five of us full. Great service and no problem getting a table at 6:45 walking in right away; although posted numbers online are wrong so couldn't call for reservations anyway. Highly recommend for groups of 4-6 to try most variety of dishes.
Kim Vo
Great food. Fresh meat, flavorful, and we had a great time there.
Jefferson Grimes
I absolutely love their dishes and service, great area close to my apartment. The staff members are always very nice. Highly recommended.
Craig Kitching
Fantastic Korean BBQ, we greatly enjoyed Hoban on our visit. Recommend the bulgogi, the standard one which is beef (I did not enjoy the pork bulgogi as much), and the galbi (which are beef short ribs). If you've never had traditional Korean BBQ, you are given the meat and you cook it yourself over a hot grill in the middle of your table. The meat is sliced very thinly so it cooks fast. You are served a slew of traditional Korean sides that all come included with the meat so you won't be making any decisions there. If you like Sake, I'd also recommend the Korean Soju (they have both).
Sarah Mwaniki
Our server was great he took the time to explain the menu and made sure we had plenty of side dishes and water. We will be back!
Selene De Luna
A whole different experience all together. Take your time cooking straight from the grill or order entrees. Specially drinks are great. My favorite is a cocktail with lychee.
Skye Nguyen
Loud music, difficult to hear someone else in the restaurant or have a conversation with the people you are eating with. Food, however was great and friendly/ helpful staff.
Axel Z
Good variety of food to choose from to make it fit for a group too. Your jackets will smell a full day and remind you of the great food you enjoyed there.
Ej Thompson
Very delicious food and fun experience with a group
Michael Hutson
Best Korean option in twin cities. Spent almost 2 hours enjoying the many fresh food dishes served. Satisfied with service and options. Grill it table top
Heidi Johnson
Staff was helpful and we had quick service even though it was very busy. Food was amazing, traditional korean style bbq and sides. Will be coming back for sure.
John Teisberg
Tried some new food. Octopus. Definitely won't be having that same dish again. However will be returning. Service was good, atmosphere was good, prices were good...ish.
Jojo W.
The food was phenomenal. A really cool cultural experience! The price was very reasonable for all the delicious food my party ordered.
Pa Yang
Good place for some Korean BBQ. Can get pricey though. Definitely would go again. Great place to go out with friends, clean environment and friendly staff. Food was good and easy to order.
Rocco Puggs
Amazing place. Our server Lito was the definition of a fantastic waiter. Will definitely be going again. Great food, best service, fair prices 👍 …
Kosue
The food was really good and the waiters were really friendly. I didn't really see the prices of the food before ordering but the food was worth it.
Michael Hirsch
Very helpful service and good food. The table BBQ was something I had been looking for a while. Their Wednesday's happy hour (all day) has good appetizer and drink deals.
Cody Garage
Great food, and fun place. Best Korean I have had in Minneapolis. Usually easy to get a table, sometimes hard to get the waiters attention.
Tammy Conom
Excellent food, excellent service. Jonwang was our server. He made sure we had everything that we needed. The peach soju cocktail was amazing!! Highly recommend!!!!
Lito Biala
The bartenders are the best! Get the Seoul Train with a very live crowd!
karen Nikolai
We ran over between films at the MSPIFF film fest yesterday and only had time for apps. We had a DELICIOUS pancake and also some good wings! The wing sauce was just a bit too gooey, but they were good!
Hellen Nakaweesa
My experience was beyond what I expected, I loved the food and the fact that I got to cook the meat myself( as I have long been seeing in South Korean dramas)😊
Plenty of food and it was beyond great!!!
It's a perfect place to experience the South Korean Culture!!
Beth Gasser
They struggled to have enough staff to wait on all the tables when we were there. Very busy, which is always a good sign. It was our third visit to this location. We continue to try items off the menu; some are very authentic.
Dan Renegar
Good quality meat. Do the KBBQ. Order the meats. It's a lot of fun and the only one in town I believe. Furthermore, it's in a fun area of town near lots of bars and clubs if that's your thing. Parking and traffic is a little tough.
Clinton Hanson
We had a very nice time here, party of 5 newbies. Staff was very helpful and food tasted great. We arrived when they opened at 4pm so we got right in.
Amx Xiong
I’ve been at this place so many times and this place NEVER disappoints. Love Hoban!!
Viviana Quinn-Amalia
Food is good and service is good too. Impressed but not overly impressed. Would not give 5 star but 4 star still seems low. 4.5?
Franco Gallagher
I tried this place already with my friend and I am addicted since then. I liked the excellent atmosphere and flavorful dishes and beverages. 5 stars from me.
Harry Wilkins
Have a dinner recently together with co workers could not be more helpful food was good and plentiful. We had BBQ Pork and Short rib very good evening and value for money.
Vanessa Boualouang
The food and the portions were great! The service was good, but a tad pokey. Definitely a place you have to experience!
Y Xiong
It was busy and having to fit a group of 6 was tough so try to get there early. Food was great though! Definitely a good place to bring out of towners to.
Connor Graham
Excellent food. Service could be better but I didn't come to this restaurant to be pampered. I came here to EAT. Delicious brisket and pork belly. Will be back
Blake Doblinger
We got the short ribs and the pork loin, food was delicious. Fun and different place, cooking your own food is a new experience for us.
Dee Noree
Best on the grill dining experience in twins city. My family enjoyed this restaurant on weekly basis and always experienced good quality food and service every times.
Caleb Trantham
Great spread, I don't know what their bulgogi marinade is but it's fantastic and the meat retains juiciness despite being sliced so thinly and grilled.
Pete
Really hot weather and hot inside with the grills but as always, authentic Korean BBQ fun with family and and another great round of memories.
Drew Cradit
The restaurant had very few people and the service was very slow and sparse....had to ask several times for our drinks...food was good...not great ....the typical korean sides were very good. Not the best korean bbq.. but their restaurant in eagan has very good food.
Kalliopi Panagi
Nice place for drinks. However, I had a bad experience the last time I visited with regards to cleanliness :( I seen a rat in the restaurant...I am not kidding 🐀. I hope the owner sees that and takes care of it cause I would like to come again! …
大野いつき
I went to here with my friends to introduce Korean bbq. The servers were so kind for us and food came so fast and it was delicious. I’d like to come here forever!!
Daniel Liu
Pretty good food. Nice variety of banchan. The quality of meat was good though the portions were smaller than I'm used to.
TréChon
Great staff, excellent food and the general managers superb. I encourage all my family, peers and similar, to check it out, it's quite challenging not to be impressed.
Will Powers
Excellent Korean BBQ in Minneapolis, however, it is very hard to get attention from your server! Had real challenges just to get basic needs, like silverware or a refill.
fay Jay
Great food. We ordered too much food not knowing the portions come big but still a nice experience.
J B
Great food. We go there every time we are in Minneapolis. I wouldn't go there on a friday or saturday for dinner unless you got there super early or willing to wait for along time.
MICHAEL HERNANDEZ
This is a very fun environment everyone there was friendly I went to the other night when DJ sota was performing they had appetizers that were half off and bottle service wasn't too bad it does get crowded but they had the air on at night so it wasn't bad it is located right around the corner from cowboy Slim's and next to it is a McDonald's there is parking along the roads but I tend to go towards a ramp alot of them are 12 bucks for the whole night
Win
Food is fantastic! It's as close as I can get to being back in S. Korea. It's pretty expensive and the service can be a bit slow but the food more than makes up for it.
THELEGITZILLA
Food is great but it be better if it was "ALL YOU CAN EAT" but it is what it is.
Alex H
This place is awsome. Great food, thought it was a bit pricey but portions were much bigger than I anticipated. Servers were very friendly and $1 soju on wed rocks!!
Maria Maria
I'm glad we went to this place. The food was super good and friendly staff. Can't wait to come back.
Kay Ru Htoo
Good food at reasonable price. We had 5 difderents dishes and eat them all. Plus, handsome waiters.
Yiran Tong
The dipping sauce is kinda weird (salt in oil)...The grill rack should have been more frequently replaced, because the food residual accumulated so quickly...
Aileen Rheault
1st try at a Korean BBQ restaurant in Minneapolis....lemme tell ya....this is DA BOMB.COM!!!! Our server Sophia was amazing....ask for her when you dine....WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK AND BRINGING EVERYONE WE KNOW!!!!
Miguel Mellon
The best Korean restaurant in the twin cities, the barbecue is like no other. They don't mess around.
Anney Vang
Food was great but me n my friends ended up waiting 10minutes for our credit cards back n the cashier messed up our payment too charging me twice n 3 times for my friend. We were so mad! Her card was evn declined after. Nvr going there again!!!
Alexander Shneim
Love me some bibimbaps and the Korean side dishes are on point
Amanda Yang
Impressive food! But expect messy service. The management seems unorganized. We had to constantly fish around for available staff to help us.
Karter Ballard
This place is worth trying. They have big portions for convenient prices. Always neat and with good mood. Will come visit again.
Gabriela
I loved it! The food was amazing! The ambience!
Jon Mes
Delicious veggie potstickers, fried mushroom tempura, and veggie plate for the grill! Plenty of vegetarian food.
Dario C
Great taste and it's a quick wait to be seated! That said, it's a little pricy and the wait staff can take a while to get around to your table.
Luis P
The food is decent, but the service/attention is very bad. Waited 20 mins at door without being greeted or being seated. Will not be coming back.
Brian Dahl
The food was fresh and of very good quality, but I was disappointed by the flavor, or rather lack of. We had bibimbap and fried rice
jonathan salaun
Great place if you like meat.
I had the cold noodles soup.
It was like it’s name, a ball of ice cold noodles.
Pretty gross, I suggest not to try it.
Tom MacNabb
So happy to have a Korean BBQ restaurant in Minneapolis. Nothing beats cooking meat on an open grill. Don't miss out on their bi bim bap as well.
Jonathan Dao
Hoban is one of the first if not the first Korean BBQ joints in all of Minnesota.Korean BBQ is a social experience in itself. You cook the meat right in front of you.So its best if you take a group of friends or your s.o for the full experience. The food is very good you order what you are going to grill of the menu.I usually get the samgyeopsal(pork belly) and beef brisket. To top it all off order a bottle of soju and drink it with Hite which is a korean beer that I can only find here. The service is quick although there is a wait on the busy days. The servers are really nice and will check up on you from time to time.Shoutouts to Nancy for being the best server and Freddy the boss man for coming up and checking up on us.
Anthony Bensonl
Love this place. Good food and the staff are always friendly, but if you go there when it is buay, you may have to wait for some time.
Sally Phu
The atmosphere is great. They're usually busy and the waiter and waitresses will make things happen for you!
Drakirah Deichert
Great service! Jangwoo was attentive and described the process to us. Would definitely come back.
Nazifa Wazirzada
Amazing food, really nice service, just a little pricey but it’s a great experience you’re paying for, totally recommend!
Ziqian Wu
Busy place, waiters are a little bit rude because it is a busy night. Not the best Korean BBQ place but worth the trip and wait.
Somsai Keophilavanh
Food was great. Service was a little lacking. Understandable it was pretty busy. Over all would go back.
Cole D
The food was delicious and everything was brought to us as quickly as possible. We had a great time.
D D
DELICIOUS!!! I will always order from this restaurant!! I have been dying to find good fried rice and I have finally found it!! Yum!
John Thompson
Enjoyed Korean style side dishes served with meat that we grilled ourselves at the table
Trevor Hanson-Voss
BEST PLACE IN UPTOWN. CANT BEAT THEIR HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS. FRIENDLIEST, AND MOST HELPFUL STAFF. BEST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE IN MINNESOTA HANDS DOWN.
s thao
Food is expensive. Taste pretty good. But not that special. Restaurants in this area are just so much more expensive. I wish there are more korean bbq restaurants here.
Sue Yang
They stop selling food at midnight. I was a little disaapointed, but its understandable. Just writing this review for others, who want to eat here after midnight.
C V
Great service.
But get the hobanger. It's great to taste, mild, fragrant and a creeper. Dont sleep on it.
It's also a visually great to look at
Ayanna Young
The food is good if you know how to cook it. Had a nice time but i wish the staff could taken some time to help you more.
Joanna Erickson
Delicious food!!! Love the music! Might get crowded but just means how great the place is.
Mason Vang
Probably the best Korean food I’ve had in a long time and awesome service. Highly recommend!
RKFilms
Excellent food, it would be nice if the servers would check up more often so you could get refills on stuff as you run out of it, but it wasn't a huge problem
Ben Lindquist
It is fun. Interesting set up with a sort of DIY menu. This may be common knowledge for some but was a new experience for me. Kind staff.
Megan
I've been here twice and both times where incredible. Very tasty food, wait staff will try to up sale you though
Sin Collector
Always great service. Amazing food and drinks. I consistently eat here.
Brent Lageson
The bibimbap was not cooked entirely how it should be. But still a fun experience to cook up some meat at the table.
Jean Paul Vang
Nice and clean with good food..
Had some good time eating there on my date day...
ANGEL M.I
Great experience, food really good. The place just needs a deep cleaning and NO Parking lot.
Devlin Shaughnessy
I really like their beef bulgogi and variety of kimchi!
Mike Johnson
Josh is amazing always telling me to slow down on the brisket !! Haha hands down best customer service
