Reviews of Guacaya Bistreaux
Shelby Couch
Wow, the flavors and dishes they serve up here are amazing. (Cocktails pictured: la loba rosada & mula mula. Tapas: patacones, maize, & crawfish empanadas). Do yourself a favor and order anything that calls to you; everything on the menu is delicious.

This is easily one of my new favorite spots in MSP. The food is amazing, the cuisine and cooking styles are super diverse. The service was great, although it is more of a casual spot so you order everything through the app. But I think my favorite thing was that it was walk in only, that helps a ton, especially in downtown. I'll be back.
Adam
Very casual vibe with unbelievably tasty food served tapas style. Each plate was as visually exciting as it was flavorful. The variety of dishes and drinks was very fun and a cool exploration of Caribbean foods with some influences really bringing things to the top. Can’t wait to go back because there are many more plates I’m excited to try!

The food here is spectacular! The chicken is to die for!! Everything is amazing, order the entire menu you WILL want to try them all! Shrimp and grits, skewers, ceviche and all the drinks! Service is great, everyone is super friendly.

My husband and I visited Guacaya Bistreaux for a date night and will definitely be back. Beautiful ambiance. Fantastic food and delightful spins on classic cocktails. We ordered the cauliflower spiced with a beautiful, balanced heat, the brussel sprouts, combined with the pear which made such a phenomenal, complimentary flavor combination.
We shared the skirt steak which was grilled perfectly rare and tender, the chimichurri so bright! It was my favorite. And a large enough portion to share.
We tried both the bread pudding and the panne cotta for dessert. They were well matched together. The rich banana rum sauce and rum emphasized bread pudding alongside the tropical flavors of the panne cotta were a perfect end to our meal.
Generous portions for a tapas restaurant in everything. The wait staff and service were prompt and cheerful, Shelby was excellent. The bar service was detailed and fast.
I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu.

This is easily my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. I am originally from New Orleans and this dinner reminded me of home. It did not disappoint at all. The drinks were also really good. I would easily recommend this restaurant to anybody no questions asked. Can’t wait to come back here!

Amazing food! Caribbean / Latin - best in town! We ordered the Maiz, Patacones and Carne en Palito. The drinks are absolutely incredible. So recommended!! Don't miss it.

Guacaya was outstanding! It was our first time here and went based off a friends recommendation. First off, the ambiance was fun, welcoming, homie and inviting all at the same time. We had the following:
-Steak Skewers
-Maiz
-Leche de Tigre with Mezcal
-La Centuria cocktail
The steak was so tasty, I will be ordering it every time I come back. The corn was creamy and had crispy bits on top that contrasted contrasted the creaminess. I was surprised at the portion sizes compared to similar price points for tapas, you get your money’s worth! The drinks were fun, vibrant and well thought out. I had the Leche de Tigre had a jalapeño and chili salt, which played perfectly with the sweet and smokiness of the drink. My wife got the La Centuria cocktail which she loved.
The best part of the whole experience was the owner stopped by and talked to us. He told us the story of the restaurant and how everything from the decor, to the food, was culminated with love and friendship. He explained many of the recipes are his mothers and he wanted to showcase his family and culture through his food, which really showed. Much of the art work was from friends in New Orleans and many of the products, such as the lighting fixtures, were from local companies.
We will be returning in the near future! Guacaya Bistreaux is a must try.

Highly recommend. Really friendly service from start to finish despite being a QR code. Food and drinks were well thought out and delicious. Though we didn’t have anything bad, I would say my favorites were the boudin, churrasco, jerk chicken (which was more like a bbq chicken, but still amazing). The Isla del Rey and the Leche de Tigre were my two favorite cocktails. Great vibe, great food, great concept!

It was very delicious. The food was presented beautifully, and the restaurant very clean. I will definitely come back again to bring other friends.

This spot is a little hidden for being in plain sight--look for the white and copperish building with a patio immediately to the right of Deja Vu (can't miss that for sure). Ordering is super convenient since it is all done online. Food is great; I recommend the tapas menu!

Okay, you have to get used to a new dining experience where you order from your phone and everything is brought out to you quick Snap and by your name. Just get used to it. It's kind of cool and innovative and you can enjoy your meal more. It's a great place to come with friends because there's a ton of different tapas you can try and they're all delicious and definitely shareable. The presentation is top notch and so is the service. It was a busy Saturday night and it really didn't feel like it. It's a great spot and it even has free parking! I know. Come for the food, it will challenge and entice you and you will be a better foodie for it.

Unique addition to the area, but a miss on ambiance and price
I was excited to see something new and different to the north loop area. There is definitely a lack of places that serve Latin cuisine and I was super excited to try this place out. While the food was okay and fairly unique, there were several misses. First the ambiance; the music was blaring as if we were at a club and I could barely hear myself think let alone hear my party’s conversation. Additionally I would not suggest coming here with a group larger than 4 unless you don’t mind bar seating. The only “large” group (4+) spots are backless bar stools and I personally don’t care to drop good money while hunched over all dinner long. Next the value of the food and drink. Like I said, food was unique and a nice surprise from typical North Loop fare but portions were on the small side, for almost $20 a appetizer that’s pretty disappointing. Our food was not hot and drinks were small and mainly ice. If you’re looking for a new spot to try and understand it may not be a knockout, feel free to try this place. But if you’re looking for a well rounded restaurant you’ll walk away delighted from, I’d skip this spot.

Went with a small group and indulged for a birthday! Tried nearly every dish. Favorites were the Mac and cheese (best ever had?), churrasco and the panacones. The boudin sausage was also very good.
Raul Suarez
Perfect fusion of latin and Cajun cuisine. We had a couple of starters before this plate, pescado frito. Each one a explosion of flavors! The cocktails are great too and have a good variety of NA drinks. Love this place

Went on a whim on Friday night, and were fortunate enough to get a table immediately!
The atmosphere was alive with a DJ spinning, a full dining room and staff aplenty.
We did the damn drinks, and they were delicious.
But then the food:
Pastacones- delightful, a great starter that was crispy and rich in every bite.
Shrimp and grits: These are special folks. Comforting and flavorful grits that are thick with seasoned shrimp 🤤
The curry: Wow! It's rare to get a fried okra dish in these parts, and have it be gluten free. This is a flavorful, unique dish that is a must try!!
I decided this is my birthday restaurant this year, and maybe more to come!
Thank you!!!

Will try again - but first experience the food was was okay (the arepitas were good). Skirt steak was fine, and cauliflower might have been good with more crunch in it. Drinks were solid, but definitely a little marked up for the neighborhood since they’re pretty simple drinks. NA drinks were good but more expensive than NA drinks should be.
Emma Swanson
Loved our meal and time at Guacaya! Yummy drinks and food to share with friends. The owner and staff are so friendly. Gotta admit though, the bread pudding was the star of the show. SO GOOD!!! Will be back. Cheers!
Kirsten
Very good food, however for the quality of the restaurant and the money we spent I wished we wouldn’t have had to eat cold food. The tapas and entrees came out together which was completely unexpected, the tapas were barely warm so it was obvious they had been sitting a while. We then rushed through eating the tapas as fast as possible hoping our meals wouldn’t get cold, well they still did. Disappointing for a $150 meal.
Ben Gorecki
Interesting concept, trendy casual setting, but spendy for a order from your phone restaurant. Bottles of wine are the best deal on the menu, cocktails are good but tiny for the price. For Latin/Cajun fusion we were expecting more heat with the food, it felt Minnesota toned down and lacked spice and depth.
George Gonnella
Loved all the food we sampled, cant wait to go back. Surprised there weren't more people there, it would have been nice to mingle a bit more. Never tried any of their specialty drinks, but looked like they were dispensing them from a tap, so only 4 stars for that.
Alyssa Anneken
We had an amazing dinner at Guacaya Bistreaux last night! The service, food, and cocktails were all outstanding.
Our waiter John was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and he gave us great recommendations for our meal. Also, Ricky, the chef de cuisine, was super friendly and accommodating for my allergy.
The cocktails: we ordered several cocktails - all of them were well balanced and delicious. The espresso martini w/ rum was outstanding - hands down one of the best I've had. The tropical negroni had great depth of flavor as well.
The food: we ordered several dishes (including a few based on John's recommendations alone, including the barbecue shrimp tapa which was INCREDIBLE - definitely a must order!). Highlights included the shrimp, ceviche, the cauliflower and the incredibly light and crispy yucca fries that were perfectly seasoned.
Definitely one of the best dinners we've had in the Twin Cities in recent memory - we're looking forward to dining again soon!
Lizzie Aby
The food was great and reasonably priced. Great place to go for groups - can share a lot of different plates. Our favorites were: arepitas, maiz, jerk pasta (we wouldn't have gotten this option, but the waiter suggested it and it was great) & the steak!
Also great service!
David Holt
Absolutely delicious! Stopped in for lunch (technically take out only for lunch) and will be back to try out the dinner and cocktail menu.
Garyione Hollins
Love the fusion concept. There aren't many places in Minnesota to get Cajun inspired dishes. The interior is neat and stylish. The menu was really innovative and exciting-bringing something unique to Northloop. I didn't even take picture because was immersed in my experience! We ordered tapas to share and loved the cauliflower and crab dip. I've never had empanadas-so they were different but good. The drinks were tasty and brought me to a beach. The wait staff were so courteous and friendly. Can't wait until it's warm enough for the patio.
Steve Rinker
Second time here, will not be our last. The cocktails here are amazing. The tropical negroni scores a 10 on my scale. The food is also amazing. The tapas menu is off the charts good and the entres ate incredible. If you have room for dessert try the bread pudding.
Jennie M
Great cocktails, food, service and ambiance! Their ceviche preparation was so unique. Slightly creamy and delicious. Loved the arepas. I’m still dreaming about the passion fruit panna cotta and I’m typically not a dessert person. Sebastian offered wonderful recommendations and was genuinely awesome. Can’t wait to go back.
Joseph Striegel
Wonderful experience for dinner. Service was paced well for what we were there for. Parking is not the greatest, but that's just a product of the location. Cocktail (tropical negroni) was very good. Nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. Dishes ordered: Arepitas de Lechon - excellent. The masa was cooked perfectly, well seasoned and tasty. Empanadas - very good. I prefer cornmeal based empanadas, but these were worth ordering again for sure. Patacones - fried perfectly and i loved the garlic mojo sauce. Slightly over salted and the mayo ketchup sauce is not my fav. Carne en palitos - cooked and seasoned well. The cajun crab dip - this was the favorite of the group. The waiter suggested getting more bread and it was the right suggestion. Tried both deserts - the tropical panna cotta was the favorite as it had a strong passion fruit flavor, which we all loved.
Nathan Gerdes
Every dish and cocktail was delicious, service was as attentive as possible given how busy it was, and Sebastian made sure my wife’s dietary restrictions were accommodated beautifully and they were made to feel so safe. Also, the only place in MPLS I’ve seen Mofongo on the menu. Excited to return!
Anjel Vaillancourt
What a nice, vibey spot
Between the music and the lighting, perfect for a night out with friends/family or a date night.
We had a group of 7 and ordered a lot of food - Not only did it look pretty on the plates but everything was *chefs kiss*
Starters We Shared: patacones, empanadas, egg rolls, Brussels sprouts, calypso crab cakes, maiz, colifor, & yuca fries
The Mains I Split: CHURRASCO (Cooked Medium Rare it melted in my mouth) & LOMO Y PASTA
LOVED Both Mocktails: Leche de Tigre (next time I'm not driving... I'll add mezcal) and Guarapo
The staff was so kind and the pace of the food hitting our table was perfect. We were there to enjoy each others company and the atmosphere.
Just... Wow!
Also, you don’t have to order from a QR code anymore for those frappin about it from when they first opened lol
You can tell some people never worked in a restaurant “the manager was working on their laptop at the bar”.
Daniel Anzanello
Been here twice and both times was really impressed with the food. South American flare to tapas. The fried yucca was authentic and the churrasco steak just plain yummy.
Zarine McDaniel
hallelujah!! Finally something different and inspiring coming out of the northloop. Thank you for joining the neighborhood! Absolutely stunning interior and the food and drinks are so unique and innovative. So happy your not another italian or burger joint. I’ll come back again and again.
alysha bellamy
Beautiful surroundings, lovely music. Definitely going back for lunch.
Kirsi Merikoski
I am doing my first google review solely for this place. Such a great place to share dishes with friends! The staff and owner were so great and the bread pudding is PHENOMENAL! Will 100% be back soon!
Katherine Hansen
Food was stellar! You could tell they were a bit understaffed and the place was very busy. So food was a little slow coming out but we didn't have to wait too long.
There was a miscommunication about course timing as my partner's food was served like 30 mins before mine so it was kind of awkward just sitting there while they ate (and vice versa when my food came out)
Kevin Skerrett
Went for tapas, very very good. The crispy brussel sprouts were a big hit, as was the Arepa. Good cocktails too!
Payton Rogowski
The jerk chicken was AMAZING!! Great cocktails, too 😊
Gray
Fabulous drinks, large portions, but some of the dishes leave a lot to be desired. Worth trying, may suit your fancy if not just for great drinks.
Michael Chen
On the whole we felt that all of the flavors of the food were unbalanced and not worth the high price tag of ~$18/plate. The service was fine given this is an order off your phone style restaurant, but again, we would have hoped for a nicer experience given the price point.
We ordered the Crawfish Empanadas, Fried Oysters, Crescent Salad, Patacones, Yuca Fries, and the Bread Pudding. All of these dishes either had either too much salt or sugar, or lacked a certain brightness that would have brought the dishes into balance. The bread pudding was particularly disappointing in this regard, effectively being sugar mush.
If you're looking for Latin flavors we strongly prefer Hola Arepa. We will not be returning and are frankly confused at how well rated this restaurant is given our recent experience.
Kattitudes
Food was great. The only complication was when you have questions, getting someone to ask and answer you. But once you got someone's attention they gave great answers. Still operating by covid to less
Rules. Scan QR codes to order and pay. Unfortunately fortunately my phone went dead so I had to pay inside. At one point I couldn't get ahold of a server so I called the restaurant, stated my concern and they came directly to assist. I had the steak Skewers, and the boudin egg rolls all was delicious.
Therese Kulas
New favorite restaurant on the MSP scene. Everything is beyond excellent, and is a great place to take groups since you order via your phone- no split check hassle!
Bob Sutton
I can't really rate the food or drinks here, as the online-only menu was mystifyingly obtuse. On the plus side, we saved paper, and the food where we wound up eating was pretty good.
Edgar Alfonzo
Great Food!!! Great atmosphere!! Very Unique Place!!
Larry Odebrecht
Great food, but the ordering process isn't my favorite. It would be nice to talk to someone about the menu before ordering.
Kathy Arostegui
Great experience. Great food and drink menu. Unique flavors. Fun cocktails. Great location. Fun atmosphere. Friendly staff☺️
kelli
FANTABULOUS FOOD! …. the ceviche and egg-roll flavors brought new life to what used to be a typical dish. EXCELLENT!
Zachary Shires
I quite enjoyed this place. The servings were larger than what I expected from a tapas restaurant and the food was a good value.
PJ ComJo
The drinks were so flavorful - the mulu and isle del ray were fantastic. Walk through the jungle a fantastic summer drink. Tried 4 tapas. The crawfish pies w/a great horseradish sauce was my fav. I always want more pickled cabbage. The maize was really tasty. Will try an entree next time. Great setting. Nice setup.
Will Waugh
Amazing food drinks, and service. We came in at 9:20pm before they closed at 10p.m. and the staff still welcomed us with smile . The food was incredible definitely recommend trying this place.

Super friendly staff, and the food was great, but there weren't too many options for entrees.

Best restaurant in Minneapolis!!!
Larry
For food We had the Firecracker Eggroll, Crab dip, Cauliflower, Jerk chicken, and Burger. These dishes are as good as any we have had in this city or other cities we have travelled to for that matter. The flavors are spot on. The sauces and pickled condiments were delicious and really enhanced the flavors. We appreciated that the chicken was deboned and corn was added to the risotto of that dish. For drinks we had the Alchemista, Life of Leisure, La Mula, and a Negroni Tropical. They were all yummy. The Guacaya has a great menu, wonderful staff, and it’s a very nice building in a nice setting.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Guacaya Bistreaux and it exceeded my expectations! The menu offers a delicious variety of Latin cuisine that captures a wide range of flavors and textures. The atmosphere is inviting and warm, and the staff are approachable and knowledgeable about the menu. We shared several different tapas and all were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The guacamole was some of the best I've ever had. Overall great experience, highly recommend Guacaya Bistreaux if you're looking for a top-notch Latin meal. 5 stars!
Christina Le
Amazing food and incredible service! Pedro owner/chef is amazing.
Paige Aleece
Amazing, would recommend whole-heartedly
Kate Spangenberg
What a great spot! The food was absolutely delicious (we had the Shrimp and Grits and the Etouffe special as well as some apps) and the drinks were fabulous!
The service we experienced was wonderful. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders and chefs and every single person was friendly, funny, and passionate about food/drinks.
I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu and the ambiance is lovely. Very warm and romantic. Looking forward to going back in the summer when we can sit on the patio!
