Reviews of Ena
The food was absolutely amazing. Every flavor complemented each other. The food was done to perfection. Highly recommend! I would say this is by far one of the top restaurants to try!
The new menu has some lovely dishes but it is very expensive for tiny bits of food. Really loved the cauliflower dish, beautifully prepared and lots of layers of flavor but it was five bites for $12. The “avocado” (it’s guacamole) is incredibly good but it is $16 and would fit in a child’s teacup. I understand that not every place is Outback Steakhouse but when the food costs on a dish can be measured in pennies (the cauliflower and parsnip dish) it just feels mean spirited to have portions this small. As with other dishes in other restaurants by this owner, I found the seafood I ordered to be weirdly metallic tasting and disappointing. Change your supplier! Service great, ambiance lovely.
Tried this place for the first time and based on a reccoemdation. I enjoyed the meal we had, the place was a little small but there was abundant street parking.
I would recommend trying this place, the seafood dishes we tried were very flavorful and satisfying.
The food was amazing!!! Their virgin margarita was also 10/10. Yes, all in it can get pricy but, that’s everywhere in Minneapolis. Also, the 10% charge is very common too, so not sure why other reviewers are surprised by this. We will be returning!!!
Went for my wife's birthday at her request as she'd been there before and had enjoyed her prior dining experience. Avocado was great with tons of flavour, as was the chicken empanada. Looked like they were down a server, possibly a cook, but understandable in these times. Would go back again.
Café Ena is incredible- the owner and chef Hector is so kind and does a beautiful job with the plates and variety of flavors. The corn fritters with shrimp were stunning. People should be flocking to this place! A neighborhood treasure.
My husband and I ate at Ena for our anniversary and simply loved the experience. The wait staff was great, and the food was superb. I highly recommend the ceviche, guacamole, tomato and cheese “ensalade,” and the bass, chicken, and steak(we’ve had in the past). Also make sure to try their juices.
We stopped for a quick dinner: service remains outstanding, the foods are as good as ever. I really enjoyed the Bife de Chorizo, my wife liked her Salmon dish.
I love the covered patio! Excellent ceviche and empanadas. Great service.
Had a group of six for dinner and dessert. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes and the desserts were outstanding!
Also, our server Rene was helpful and pleasant. Great atmosphere too! Go, you wont be disappointed!
Really amazing food and service at a super reasonable price. Basically a fine dining experience and they’re never overpacked, I hope they never go out of business. This is a hidden gem everyone should know about. The guacamole and sangria on the patio in summer is superb ✨
Amazing evening on the patio! Beautiful weather superior food! Always a fan of Cafe Ena the food never disappoints and the service staff is very thoughtful. The guacamole appetizer is the best guac ever! I enjoyed the seabass and dessert was keylime pie and chocolate cake! Thank you Chef Hector! Highly recommend!
I was so happy to find this spot locally, I had no idea it was there! I had been craving Latin American food and was curious to check this place out. The one negative I will say is that they were severely understaffed. Them being understaffed did not help with the number of tables that were occupied (yes, there was social distancing.) This made them not really pay much attention to detail and messed up our appetizer order (gave us cheese empanadas instead of beef empanadas) and did nothing to correct it. Not the best customer service, in my opinion. Only negative!
On to the food!
Appetizers:
Guacamole - this was delicious and presented beautifully. All of the ingredients that went into it were fresh as if they were grown in the back. Top tier guacamole. 5/5.
Empanadas - We ordered beef empanadas but received cheese empanadas, they were still delicious and the roasted tomato salsa topping was delicious. 5/5
Entrees:
Bife De Chorizo - I loved this. However, I would have preferred another starch rather than fries. Maybe chopped potatoes or even mashed potatoes would have been wonderful. This meal was flavorful. I'm a very picky eater and absolutely hate artichokes, asparagus, and red peppers but I ate this meal like no tomorrow. Well done!
Carne Bravo - This was so full of flavor! The flat iron steak is pimento crusted, and it has sauteed baby potatoes and veggies. The demi-glaze is... *chef's kiss* I would highly recommend this dish.
Dessert:
Creme Brulee & Churros: Both fantastic dessert options. Delicious, perfectly made, and full of flavor.
I can't wait to go back to Cafe Ena. I'm excited to order from here to-go if we end up in another lockdown.
True fusion of Latin American/New American cuisines, tapas style. Everything, including cocktails, were delicious. Especially loved the veggie options!
This is our cute little find! We were dying to try something new one weekend and came across this on yelp and decided to give it a try and am so glad that we did.
Their food kind of speaks with your heart and soul. Their plate size was perfect and tasted delicious. Do try their guacamole and chips as its not like the usual one but nonetheless tastes exotic. The space is also nicely laid out with loads of windows and natural light coming through. Kind of made us feel warm even on a frigid winter day.
LOVE their food...LOVE their charming decor and I am pretty sure we are gonna come back often to this place.
Lovely patio. Friendly service. Fresh and tasty food. The calamari is done with care..not too much batter, not too fried and not chewy at all. The guac is fresh and chunky. Light on flavor, but still good. They could serve more chips with it though..we had quite a bit left after the chips were gone and just ate it by the spoonful. I had the salmon, again, no disappointment. We felt pretty good after splitting 2 carafe of sangria between the 4 of us. It's a decent sangria, but i wouldn't put it in my top 5. Either way it's a great place to eat outside and get fresh food!
sea bass topped with trio quinoas is way too hard to buy into, literally. Appetizer shrimps are great with that sweet sour pineapple sauce. My friend gave up after 2 bites of the steak, way over cook, even we told server no cheese still got it on top.
I love Rincon, so when I heard of Cafe Ena I had to try it. They have a super nice staff and a lot of variety on their menu. The best part for me is knowing I can go there for lunch, as opposed to Rincon which only offers dinner. I had the Salmon which was delicious. Stop by if you're in the area!
Amazing food and service. The Chile En Nogada appetizer is delicious, as well as the Sea Bass!
Very DELICIOUS and FLAVORFUL!!! The staff was very friendly and prompt. The seating was spacious with the couch seats actually being firm. I did not sink into the couch. I ordered the Argentine grass fed steak (see photo) and it was outstanding. Outdoor seating is also available.
Would not recommend the bife de chorizo (beef) the fries were terrible and the beef was just ok. The people I went with both got fish (halibut and snapper) and those were both delicious. Overall I would recommend sticking to seafood dishes.
I absolutely LOVE Cafe Ena in South Minneapolis. I've never had better guacamole in my life. My friend had the salmon and coconut risotto after falling in love with the guacamole and absolutely loved it. The patio is so adorable. I feel like I'm in another country.
My husband and I felt adventurous and decided to try Argentinean cuisine for the first time. We were not disappointed with the food. We started off with seafood empanadas, which were flaky on the outside and had a succulent, creamy seafood filling. We were off to great start.
We then ordered the rack of lamb and the grass-fed Argentine steak. The lamb was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Definitely a 5/5. The steak wasn't as great as the lamb, as it was a bit tough and saltier than I would have liked, 4/5.
But overall both dish definitely offered new flavor profiles which we both enjoyed. Would we come back? Yes we would, just not for a while until we start craving some empanadas.
I had the best dining experience tonight! I’m from out of town. I wanted to support a small business. I seen it was slightly empty but still was intrigued to come in. The place was very cute. The food was so delicious. I had food yesterday at Cowboy jacks; and it was disgusting in comparison to the food here. It had so much flavor and the meat was juicy and tender. I honestly wanted a desert but everything on my plate. Renee my server so was so amazing. He was polite, attentive, friendly, nice and overall super cleanly due to the covid conditions. We talked for a few and it was a great conversation. Their social distancing and cleanly standards due to covid made me feel so comfortable and at ease. If I’m ever in town I will not only come back due to the food but to see Renee as my server and make sure I request him.
Excellent restaurant. Photo is a stuffed pepper appetizer. All food was outstanding for table of four. Service very good. Atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommend.
EVERYTHING on the menu sounded awesome - I finally settled on the chilaquiles and the meal as perfect as they looked. Get the fresh juices! The pineapple mint was so good! 😍 for sure recommend if you're looking for authentic flavor in a fresh way. …
I had the "Lubina" (sea bass) which was delicious. My husband had the "Conchas" (scallops) which was also delicious, but his was a smaller portion.
We sat on their beautiful shady north-facing patio which was comfortable even though the temperature was in the high 80s.
The staff was efficient and friendly.
The avocado small plate is excellent. Micro greens, fresh salsa and cilantro oil’, dished up with house-mate corn chips. Hector has done it again!
Some of the dishes were really good (avocado and fritter apps). My Bife de Chorizo dinner from new menu was terrible. Overcooked, bland, unappetizing. Was also $40. I would never recommend this dish to anyone. I usually like the restaurant, but very dissatisfied with meal this time. Hope to give better review if/when I come back.
This place is phenomenal. So delicious, and with great service. Plus tons of outdoor seating. One of the finest restaurants in Minneapolis or the twin cities for that matter. Highly recommend. Get the empanadas!
Love Love Love Cafe Ena. Thoughtful food, great wine selection, friendly service. Family owned business. The owner Hector has several restaurants around Minneapolis and they are all of high quality. Highly recommend.
Slow pace, lovely atmosphere, the best sangria! All good is outstanding and memorable! Great for a date or quiet night out.
Tonight was a special 6 course meal with wine pairings. Hector Ruiz and his team did an excellent job, a fantastic meal.
Very friendly and warm atmosphere. The service is absolutely amazingly great. And the food is spectacular. I would recommend this place to anyone
My friend got a quesadilla with mushrooms that was really good. And I enjoyed one of three of my cocktails. most of their cocktails either have mint or brown liquor, so the place is more geared towards people with a bitter palette. They don't have customer Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, I missed taking a picture of this I could have sworn I did - I'm assuming someone in management put up this really creepy sign about how you should leave the bad stuff outside and only bring in the good stuff into work. I understand that for the sake of customer service you should put on your best face, but I feel like propaganda like that is telling people that they're not allowed to be human at work and that's really disturbing. What's really imposing is how big the sign is so people can't even ignore it. I'm not about places that put all else in front of their employees health and well-being, so I won't be coming back. A lot of people spend a lot of time and energy in their life at work. Time and energy that they won't get back. That's why I'm not about someone trying to uniform someone's behavior in something that takes up so much of their finite time on this planet.
I have enjoyed ena every visit. I have to say that the new menu is really a level up!! From flavor to presentation the options are amazing! I have tried the entire menu! Great environment and friendly staff! I recommend this for a casual dinner , date night, or professional meeting! They will meet all of your wants and needs.
Solid neighborhood fare, great for lunches and informal dining, but not the foodie experience some writers allude to having. The wines were warm. Perfect outdoor spot.
The mole on the enchiladas = heaven. Mom had the arroz con pollo and it was well enjoyed :)
Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommended!
Food and service were exceptional. One of the very few restaurants that offer flavors unique to the taste buds. I can tell every dish was made with thought because all the ingredients together created an explosion of delightful flavors. Would 100p recommend.
Fantastic Staff and Food!
We were treated so well last night. My 6 sisters went out for a sister's 50th. Tables were spread out perfectly. The staff was so accommodating and kind. I really don't bother with reviews very often, but I felt inclined to leave one. The service was wonderful and everyone loved their entrees. I recommend the stuffed pepper- really great flavors! Sea bass was a hit as well. I will give them my business as often as possible! Thank you for providing a cozy and delicious space for us to take a night and celebrate our sister. It was really awesome.
Honestly I expected so much more. While the old fashion was amazing and the food was good, I just wasn't that impressed with the service nor the food. I'll give it another shot but with so many other options that live up to the hype, it's hard to argue going here instead.
This place is good but way over priced. I come from Miami and i have tried great Latin food for half the price. You can get amazing food like this in Miami in a corner for 75% off. For being in MN it’s not bad. The portions are small. Location is nice and the customer service was great. If it wasn’t for the prices this place would be a 5 star.
We had our anniversary dinner here. It's a charming atmosphere and the guacamole (avocado on the menu) is absolutely delicious as is everything else I've tried on the menu.
Magnificent steak, with top notch guacamole to start and unforgettable churros to end. Truly a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.
New twist on some familiar menu favorites such as scallops, sea bass, Quacomole, etc. Very refreshing cocktails and good wine.
The waiter was awesome!! 5 stars to him.
Ambiance and seating was ok....nothing spectacular either inside or out but hey......COVID 19 be gone.
Yes, I'd recommend the place for new flavor and decent price.
Creative, delicious food! Wonderful, knowledgeable service. Upbeat atmosphere. The guac is just the best.
Good food! Entrees are a bit pricey. Good atmosphere and outdoor dining in the summer.
So excited they're open again! And apparently so were many people as it was quite busy when we went last Friday. The guacamole is, as always, delicious as is the campesino salad. The ceviche is excellent as well. My son, the carnivore, always gets the steak which he loves although, by the time he eats almost all the guacamole, there isn't much room for food. Although there's always room for their churros!
Always great food. Love the guacamole and ceviche. And the chimichurri fries 😍 …
I’ve only been here twice, and both times it was amazing. The atmosphere is great, service is nice, but most importantly the food is delicious. I loved the lamb chops they had on the dinner menu. Planning to go here for my birthday! They should definitely bring back the ginger chocolate cake.
What an incredible find! Every aspect of our experience was top notch! Our server, Abby was very helpful with menu selection as I have some very specific dietary needs. The flavors in our meals were so bright and varied! Absolutely delicious- we’ll be back!
Had a wonderful time on the patio with great food and drinks!
This is my new favorite restaurant. Perfect for date night and priced reasonably for the quality. The sangria is fantastic and so are the scallops. There we're lots of options on the menu for gluten free guests as well as dairy free items. I will definitely be going back to try the avocado crusted halibut.
A great Latin American restaurant to check out in the heart of South Minneapolis.
Lovely atmosphere, kind staff, incredible food. It's on the pricier side, but well worth it if you're in the mood to invest in a nice night out.
I have been here 3 times now in less than 4 months and every time it has been great! I've mainly had a few appetizers and drinks each time,, for their happy hour and i think I've tried them all. I have to say, there is not one I wouldn't recommend.
Beer selection is a good variety and their housemade Sangria was a wonderful surprise.
I can't wait to try a dinner. I did ask, and reservations are highly suggested especially on weekends.
Cocktails, great. Small plates, great. Service, understaffed but friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back
Great first time at this restaurant. We ordered the guacamole as an appetizer, and it was a much different version of one of my favorite foods. It had bigger chunks of avocado, and came in a can shape for presentation. It was very tasty.
We ordered the grouper special (all 4 of us) and we all couldn't stop talking about how good it was. The service was average, the ambiance was OK. It's a little small / tight in the restaurant. The quality and taste of the food more than made up for any of its other shortcomings. We will definitely return.
Thank you Ena for another delicious meal. We brought two coolers-one for cold & one for hot. Then drove home to Plymouth. The ceviche was cold and delicious and our main dishes were hot and so tasty. Thank you for remaining open during this trying time. We miss dining with you and the wine tasting dinners. All in this together.
This was suggested by the owner of our B&B. The food was absolutely delicious and a large enough portion to fill without feeling overstuffed. We even shared a dessert. The only negative was the noise. It’s not really the restaurant ‘s fault. We asked to be seated outside because it was a lovely evening. The tables are on the sidewalk so there’s some traffic noise, not too bad though. Occasionally an airplane would fly over and that was very noisy. But I’d definitely go back for the fabulous meal.
Wow! This is a five star place. Six of us sat on the patio on a warm summer evening. The food was astounding, lamb chops, scallops, Chilean sea bass. The service was pretty dang good too. It's certainly not cheap, but it's REALLY a top-notch value.
The shrimp were like none I've experienced in my life. Every dish and appetizer we got broadened the variety of delicious flavors.
Atmosphere is worthy of nice night out for two or special occasions too.
I will continue to eat here FOREVER!
Great place, consistent food! The margaritas pair well with all of the food on their menu. Portion size to cost ratio is fair and the food is quality. I would recommend giving this place a try!
Unique place, Latin Fusion, absolutely incredible. Their lunch specials are great and super affordable for the quality you get. Dinner is a bit pricier but worth it.
They also make their own pineapple mint juice drinks that are delicious. I usually get beer or wine with my meals, but I go for these instead, they're that good!
I think my experience would have been different/better on a different (normal) day. I've never been here before and decided to try a new place for Mother's day. After reading a few other reviews, it seems this establishment's service may suffer on holidays.
My only complaint is about the service. It was slow and honestly, the server was a bit rude. Again, this is my only experience here and may not be indicative of the restaurant as a whole. It was also Mother's day toward the end of brunch. That being said, it's Mother's day! (I'm there trying to give the mothers in my life a nice lunch. I don't want to be treated like an ass for coming to your restaurant during your normal opperating hours).
The food was enjoyable. I can't say anything negative about it.
I just love this restaurant. I think the food is always spot on and has been for many many years. This is my go-to place in the Twin Cities for fish. They always have a ton of options, not just salmon like most places in Minnesota. The combinations are fresh and delicious. The fish is always cooked well. The atmosphere is beautiful and comfortable. I don't know why this place isn't more busy. You get your bang for your buck here with delicious food, portions big enough that you don't leave starving, and the great atmosphere. Unlike some of the newer, trendy restaurants in town, where there is a lot of hype, but the food is not that great.
Three of us had dinner at Cafe Eva on Monday and found it a wonderful experience. We shared an appetizer, salad, two entrees, two desserts and enjoyed the half priced bottle of wine, all of which were delicious. The waitstaff was very helpful with selecting a nice red wine for us. The timing of everything was prompt but not rushed. Most of the tables were occupied but the atmosphere was still intimate and quiet enough for adult conversation. It was an all around lovely evening. We will definitely be back and will recommend this restaurant to friends.
Expanded outdoor seating is nice and roomy. Feels safe from covid. Amazing stuffed pobalano peppers and Yuka fries! Also? Caprese salad thingy is delicious! with the charred cheese and cilantro oil. Yum!!
My wife and I shared the empanadas appetizers, halibut dinner and capped it off with the chocolate mousse. All were excellent. No loud music, easy to have an intimate conversation. Service was great. Highly recommend
Ena is our favorite restaurant!! We have eaten here many times and always the best food. Loved the sea bass... perfectly prepared. The gaugamole is a must have and delicious!! Loved the beet salad too. The waiters are always so friendly and personable. It is a joyous experience everytime!!
Food was delicious and the revel margarita even better. And Boris, our waiter was very helpful and friendly.
The nicest server, very prompt service, and all 6 of us were most happy with our various choices. I ordered the rack,of lamb cooked to perfection ( medium rate)with lightly orange-glazed veggies. Melt in you mouth delicious.
Highly recommend the small plates if you are in a group that wants to try lots of different things! The empanadas changed my life!
One of my favourites. Just good food. The avocado appetizer is simply the best I've had. The Caprese salad also super. The place is a bit pricier but for a great meal, can't be beat. . .so far. Dog friendly patio and good wine and beer selection.
This place has some great food. The menu has a good variety of options for people with different food preferences/allergies.
There is a great patio for sitting outside during nice days. They even let us bring our dog on the patio the other night.
I would recommend the churros if you get dessert!
wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere. Sangria was very good. I had a scallops special that was fantastic. So we had drinks, appetizer and each had a meal...I think my bill was around 40 or so? So pretty reasonable.
Loved it! There for breakfast/lunch and our table had the Mango French toast (excellent), the Cubano (excellent), and the mushroom quesadilla (good, but not as flavorful as the others). Will definitely return to try more!
Cafe End has been our go-to restaurant for the past four years. My husband and I dined here last Saturday evening around 7:00, and although the place was buzzing, the staff delivered, once again, a superb meal and friendly, attentive service. Thank you, Caesar, and all the staff at Ena for another enjoyable and delicious experience. We'll be back!
Two thumbs up, would visit again.
Went with my girlfriend and parents for dinner on a chilly winter night.
The atmosphere is small and cozy. And the food is wonderful. I will be returning to try something else off of their awesome menu.
We had 2 appetizers, 4 entres, and 3 desserts. They were all fantastic.
Cute neighborhood restaurant with a nice patio for sharing tapas and drinking wine :)
Went here with my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day and was thrilled and impressed with the experience start to finish. From the classy but not pretentious atmosphere to the professional and friendly staff everything about the dining experience was exquisite.
And the food. I chose Cafe Ena because I was looking for ethical eating options and they stood out. Cafe Ena did a phenomenal job delivering locally sourced ethical food that blew me away. I had the bife de chorizo and it was perfect. Served medium rare it was tender and rich and flavorful and packed with seasoning that was exciting and new but also seemed familiar like my grandmother’s cooking.
10/10 would recommend, will definitely be back
Wonderful and consistently good food that is an uncommon offering in the area. The wine list is interesting and has a range to it but is not too expensive unless you go for fancy stuff. Service is great and they have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. Love this place, it’s a go-to for me.
The service was extremely slow, but I didn't care. They have a great menu, with good takes on classic recipes and a few traditional items. The churros were perfect. This restaurant gets extremely busy, so get reservations.
And did I mention the churros? They're awesome. I could return here just for them.
I have a serious complaint even though I ranked the restaurant as excellent in all categories. My wife and I were there for happy hour last Monday to take advantage of the advertised $5 deal on select appetizers (normally $8- $10). After we finished our meal and paid a staff member confessed that happy hour portions of these appetizers are about half the size of a normal order. Thus, the happy hour deal is actually false advertising. While we would have loved to go back for the quality of the food we are now hesitant to do that because of this dishonesty.
I don’t ever take the time to review places, but this place is literally so good I wanted to share. Their ceviche is legitimately the best I’ve ever tasted. Their salmon was fantastic, and so was the sangria. Lovely atmosphere, staff was super friendly. Will definitely be back soon.
Love the atmosphere in the south minneapois neighborhood! Sat outside and was relaxing for the most part. Only time it was too loud Was when a motorcycle or 2 went by. The food was good and I love the sangria. Nice to spend the money at a local restaurant . Yum
We have eaten there before, but last night took part in the wine dinner/pairing event. It was absolutely fantastic! Not only was the food exceptional, but the staff and wine representatives made it such an enjoyable evening. This restaurant will remain on our list of one of the Minneapolis favorites.
Absolutely consistently fantastic service and food!! I wish it were closer to our neighborhood but so worth the drive!! Chef Hector changes the menu at all of his restaurants so for people like us that frequent his restaurants we are able to experience new entrees with the same great service and atmosphere!
Delicious food, service a bit slow. Ditch the high-tech devices the servers have to use - they are counter-productive!
Cafe Ena is a wonderful place for a thoughtfully put together menu of super flavorful food. This is a frequent date night spot for us, but accessible and casual enough spot for a “just because they rule” visit.
In addition to great food, they also have a nicely curated wine list.
Cafe Ena just catered my son's marriage blessing. It was a small event -- we had 85-90 guests and everyone was raving about the food and the service! My husband, 2 sons, father-in-law and other family (and friends) have Celiac Disease and so MUST stay gluten free. Not a problem with Cafe Ena's menu ... so much is naturally gluten free. Barbara Ellis was amazing -- we were completely taken care of, I didn't have to worry a minute about the food or catering service. Highly recommend!
The food was delicious and the service was great. The curry crusted scallops were cooked perfectly.
After bringing our drinks and taking our order, the server ignored us until the food arrived an hour later. The service and flavor just didn't line up with the prices on the menu.
The food is so flavorful! I went with my wife, she had the Bife de Chorizo which was just as it was described in the menu. As for myself, I chose the Chilean Sea Bass also an excellent meal. The guacamole was good but I would have preferred some heat and a tsp of salt. LOL
I shall return
The shrimp and pork were done perfectly and the sauces were tasty. . I was very happy with my meal. Atmosphere was nice and quiet on Monday. The wait staff was friendly and fun
One of my top favorite latin places to eat in the city. This is our go to place on Sundays mostly because it's a little cheaper on that day. But I highly recommend making a reservation on a Saturday night this place is cozy and the dinner atmosphere is great for date night.
We had a casual lunch here Dec. 21 and I was INCREDIBLY impressed. Try the guacamole -- not only is it beautiful, it is beautifully crafted, with amazing mango and tomato chunks highlighted by a zing of fresh citrus. Amazing. For my main course, I had the Pollo Limon, which blew me away--perfect balance of hearty and lemony, with a nice compliment of beans and white rice to soak up the delicious juice.
The decor is great -- classy but casual, with lots of beautiful colors and textures. Not too overblown, as some ethnic restaurants tend to be. During lunch, it was quiet, but I imagine it would get quite noisy during dinner, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate meal, this might not be the place.
I will definitely be back.
Terrible, terrible service and our food was not hot. Barely lukewarm. The waiter would have known that if he would have asked us but we hardly saw him. It looked like the rest of the staff didn't care either. It was NOT busy so that would not be an excuse.
The guacamole was awesome but that was about it.
Lunch on 4/19
We loved this place!we started with stuffed poblano pepper that melts in your mouth. I got the pollo, and amazing gnocchi, and my husband got the Lamb, tender and flavorful. the portions are filling and not too large, the best food we have found in Minneapolis. End your night with fluffy, crisp churros and you wont regret it.
Lovely ambiance, perfect meal to introduce our 15 year old with the growing taste buds to the flavors of South American cooking. The empanadas are KILLER! Excellent preparations of both vegan-friendly and "happy carnivore" cuisines. Top-notch, friendly and informative service. Outdoor seating was divine in August on a quiet Minneapolis corner that features my favorite authentic patisserie, so a nice addition to heaven.
It was an excellent meal tonight. Party of nine people and noise level was a low enough to still visit across the table. Presentation of all the meals was excellent, and the taste of my sea bass was out of this world.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Cafe Ena. The sandwiches ordered were the Cubano and Negril. Both the sandwiches were excellent. The Negril was jerk chicken with spinach and pineapple. We also had an order of the house fries. They too were excellent, some of the best we have ever had. Along with a glass of Sangria it felt like a mini tropical vacation. A slice of lemon lime pie helped with that effect. The decor of warm earth colors and soothing Latin music finished the illusion of a peaceful day in warm place.👍
I will give a place a great review when the service is above and beyond. I came here for coffee with my boyfriend and they made a brand new pot for us. We weren't hungry and didn't get any food but I certainly loved the customer service and will be back to try their south American cuisine!!
The food was amazing! So much flavor! The service was excellent and it's such a cute cozy space. Will definitely bring friends and go again
The lunch was great, with many choices of different Latin foods from mofongo, empanadas, ceviche, and tacos al pastor to name only a few. The lunch menu also had breakfast options. Plenty of great food and a wonderful atmosphere. The inside is inviting, reminds me of a place where it is a warm climate with wooden and tile laced restaurants.
Great friendly staff to help you. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday in November. Probably would be even better in the summer with a patio.
No real problems at all, can't think of one. I suggest taking the time to come by if you can.
Love this place! The food is delicious! Love the guacamole and always get whatever the waiter recommends. Sups tasty!
Excellent food with great prices. Highly recommend the Aroz con Pollo. One of my favorites, along with the Cubano sandwich & more. Staff are very attentive & friendly. Highly recommend Cafe Ena.
FYI - they will be closed 1/1 - 1/5 for remodeling & open again on 1/6/2020.
My experience at cafe Ena was beyond high toned. The environment is welcoming and serene. I just knew for sure that the prices on the menu would be out of the roof! But to my surprise everything on the menu was right within an affordable budget. And the food 😩 let me tell y’all.. Never tasted Latin food like this Eva! Fresh, delectable, and REAL ingredients. I did not have to question what was in the food, I did not feel sluggish after eating. But instead I felt a fresh burst of energy after dining at cafe Ena. Let’s just say, not only could you taste the love in the food but you could feel it.
I attended the restaurant with one of my girlfriends and my two boys (yes kid friendly with WiFi). The guacamole paired with the homemade tortilla chips evoked my tastebuds, and the Camarones al ajillo words can’t even describe 😭. Definitely the place you want to be for an affordable, home style meal in a deluxe environment. Enjoy! Thank you cafe Ena for your superb service to our community.
Great service and knowledge of all the dishes. Had the salmon and the accompanying sides complimented great flavors. I highly recommend for good cooking with the Latin flavors.
So good. We had the shrimp appetizer, sea bass, beef, and lemon-lime pie (which was similar to key lime pie). Everything was spectacular, and the service was great despite a very busy restaurant and cramped quarters. A few things to know if this is your first visit (as we found out on arrival).
1. On-street parking only, but it was not metered and there seemed to be plenty on a Sat night.
2.It is PACKED. Every square inch of the place is used, so if you don't like to feel crowded, don't go at peak times.
3. We got reservations for a Sat night, probably wouldn't have gotten in without them. (I don't know if any of this changes when the patio is open in the summer though).
4. Not very kid-friendly. Mainly because of the layout and tight quarters, plus I don't know if there is a kid's menu (didn't ask though). We made this assumption before coming and left the older kids with Grandma for the night, however we had our carseat-bound baby along with to sit next to the table as we ate. We realized upon arrival there was no space for the carseat next to (or even under) the table. In hindsight, I should have made a reservation for three even though he didn't technically need a seat, but for anyone considering this, or perhaps for people with wheelchairs or walkers, let them know when making the reservation. The tables are easily moved around, just not with people already sitting at them ;-) For us, the woman sitting next to us didn't mind her chair space impeded by the carseat, so we were fine, but I wouldn't count on that.
Wonderful experience! We went for lunch, everything we had was delicious. The staff was friendly, and very helpful & accommodating in helping us with our food allergy limitations. We will definitely be back!
lamb, excellent. scallops no. scallop dish needs work. off-taste. guacamole great. cheese, tomato appetizer good. bife was tasty, not paired with artichoke. halibut was good. service excellente. outdoor seating, wine lists were great. distraction of loud traffic with silly loud cars speeding thru intersection. else, great experience. repeating, scallops need work.
I really enjoyed my visit to Cafe Ena. We were treating some friends after they did us a huge favor, and Cafe Ena was a perfect spot. The service was great as was the food. They were both super excited to try it out with us. It was "fancy" enough that we felt good about our choice but were also very comfortable there in jeans because it was a relaxed atmosphere.
The service and food was so excellent, I could almost forget about Covid. Soilo provided elegant service and great recommendations. You can't go wrong with the camarones al ajillo or creme brule for dessert. The in-person menu has additional options.
Our first visit. It was great! Top notch food all the way around! Great value for a well thought out food experience. Understanding the ingredients and method of preparation were key to putting our experience over the top.
Food was excellent. I had the beef medallions with risotto and vegetables and the flavors were outstanding. Great service and I really enjoyed the interior decor. Entrees are $20-$25, but well worth it.
Cafe Ena continues to be one of our very favorite restaurants!! Hector's menu is one of the most consistently creative in the Twin Cities, always offering new plates that are a delectable and eclectic mixture of flavors to enjoy. The familiar and friendly wait staff, make each visit warm and welcoming, adding to the ambiance of this intimate, neighborhood destination. Truly a special place....so much so, that we were engaged there last year!
Guacamole is incredible, place is beautiful and the service was good, my husband ordered a sandwich and it was delicious my shrimp wasn’t the best, but maybe I’m not used to the strong flavor. Would recommend
This place is delicious. Great fish, vegetarian options are not plentiful but they are tasty. Nice patio in the summer to sit out on and drink a carafe of sangria. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
Some of the best ceviche in the Twin Cities. The bar sangria has a gorgeous mash of fresh fruit. Seafood plus safran bouillabaisse, can't miss.
The Amazing Gustavo creates delicious works of art made with farm fresh ingredients, I should know, I've delivered tomatoes and others vegetables here for years. Cozy atmosphere, wonderful staff
Food was amazing. Service was great, but food coming out of the kitchen was slow.
Best seafood risotto I've ever have eaten. My husband raved about the sea bass. The beet salad and guacamole were also must haves.
I have been there 3 times and each experience has been fantastic. The appetizers are all excellent and the main courses are delicious. Can't wait to go back!
Hector and the staff offer a wonderful ambiance, fantastic food and drink and exceptional service.
The best food in the TC! Superb service and desserts that you must save room for. Especially the Tres Leche and Cherros, all homemade. Get there quick.
Got takeout and everything was fantastic!! The calamari & ceviche were the best we’ve had in the city and the mofongo was wonderfully seasoned and very hearty. Can’t wait to go back!
Ceviche was south American style and excellent
Cafe Ena was fabulous, Ben my server was very attentive, since I've never been there before, I went with his suggestion of 2 items I was torn between, Carne Brava, which was excellent!! I had a Sangria, it too was awesome. Service & food were great!
Great service, very attentive waiter. Food was great, had beef medallions with red and green pepper risotto and asparagus with andolliui sausage. Only downside is a little on the expensive side.
Great food! Interesting flavors, nice beverage list with great happy hour specials. Prosciutto wrapped pork tenderloin and veggie empanadas were particularly good. Great service as well.
The 11 dollar guac it's well worth it, yes pricey for an appetizer but it's good, I had the steak+mofongo it's was heavy on the salt tho, the rest of my friends were extremely satisfied with their choices.
Great patio, everything was yummy, waiter suggested port with our dessert and it didn't disappoint
The outside seating and hanging baskets caught our eyes. Ambiance was great, the service was good and the food was awesome. We will find a way to stop here again.
5 Star service, flavors, wine, quality. A very nice experience indoors or out (in summer). Details throughout and fresh ingredients that are unique and just WOW. Relax and be ready to enjoy.
This place is a yes, please! The guacamole is by far the best in the cities! They have a great lunch/brunch menu, but dinner entrees can be a bit pricey.
Great food but so-so service because they want to turn over tables fast. They were in the hurry to get us out on a busy Saturday evening. Pick a less busier time if you want to go there.
Cafe Ena is always a treat. If you enjoy Latin food in a relaxed neighborhood setting, this restaurant is hard to beat. I especially enjoy their seafood dishes.
This is one of my favorite go out somewhere nice places. It's not very good for kids but has amazing food, sangria, and churros. They also have outside seating which is fantastic when it's nice out.
Fine, out of the ordinary menu. Each of our four meals was great. Very good service at early weekday dinner. On street parking only.
The food and the service were excellent. We were very pleased.
I normally never eat desserts... But these churros!!!! They were crunchy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, and the chocolate!!! I would have another plate right now!
While the food is tasty, this restaurant certainly has issues with consistency. One thing is sure: either the waitstaff or the kitchen or both don't know what the menu calls for. And to add insult to injury, neither has any difficulty not delivering what the menu calls for or, for that matter, substituting without pre-advising the customer. I also heard the people around me complain to the waitstaff "that what they were served did not compare to what they ate on a previous occasion", and that comment followed their having first received food that belonged to another table.
To go into more detail, I decided to test this restaurant for lunch on 4/20 and asked for a Stella Artois beer. The waitress gave me a puzzled look, told me she had no idea what that was, and suggested I order a Pacifico. I later got hold of their wine list and there it was: Stella Artois (among many other premium and European beers).
Subsequently, I ordered a Boliche: pork loin in a mojo-sofrito sauce, accompanied by fried yuca, moro rice garnish, and pickled red onions. When the food was delivered, the fried yuca and red onion relish were decidedly missing. I asked for the yuca. Again a puzzled look from the waitress. She had no idea what yuca was but offered to ask the kitchen, after which she returned with a dish: "Yuca", she said. "No, not yuca", I responded, after taking one bite, "not fried or otherwise. It's mashed, wet, baked potato." The waitress returns the dish to the kitchen and advises: "We have no yuca today".
Still, the rest of the food was well-prepared. The loin was served in a delicious sofrito full of red peppers, tomatoes, and onions that were still chewy and not overcooked. And the moro rice appeared to have been put together Dominican style with red beans, red peppers, and tomatoes, in a manner that I had never tasted before. I decided that I wanted a chef friend to taste them, so I returned the next day to have him do just that. Same story, however, even though we had asked the waitress to ensure the availability of the fried yuca.
What my friend got served was totally different from what I ate the previous day and again, NO fried yuca. What he ate resembled more what is described as "Bistec Encebollado", and the rice had been prepared with BLACK beans, the Cuban way. We complain. Answer: "The yuca is somewhere cooked in the meat dish, and we are out of red beans." Excuse me, but could we be told BEFORE you serve us, and would you please not substitute things without asking your customers for their O.K.?
No apology either............ Also not for my "Camarones al Ajillo", which were supposed to have come in a garlic-butter sauce, accompanied by fried plantains. The sauce, while tasty, had no garlic or butter to speak of. Instead, it was very lemony and loaded with paprika. Fried plantains? I'm still searching.
All in all, this was a disappointing experience and I would counsel future diners at this establishment to keep a copy of the menu next to their plates to ensure that what is delivered matches what was ordered. Then tell the waitstaff: "No deletions, no substitutions, unless O.K.'d in advance."
This place has the winning combination of delightful decor and atmosphere, friendly and efficient waitstaff, delicious authentic food, and good cold cervezas. I wouldn't eat lunch anywhere else in Minneapolis.
Christmas Eve dinner every year in addition to regular visits. Never disappointed. Great service. Fantastic food. Approachable wine list.
Great food preparation and menu selection. The service was polite and attentive. The food took a little long to prepare, but the quality of it made it worthwhile.
Never have had a bad experience at one of Hector Ruiz's restaurants. He's creative and isn't afraid to experiment with different tastes and textures and they always turn out.
Great service and Fabulous food. Unique and delicious
Went here on a whim on a Friday night, and couldn't have been happier! The food was incredible and service was top notch. We definitely will be returning!
Delicious Cuban food. Great atmosphere. Higher prices but I love it.
I heard so much about it, its been in my list forever. The food was good. Service too. Food came very fast. Tortillas and camarones al ajillo wee great. Tacos needed punch.
Excellent staff. Amazing food.
Excellent service. Delicious food. The guacamole some of the best I have ever had. Unique and very tasty. Everything was VERY ggod
Awesome service, food and drinks!
Great seasonal foods and delicious wine. I enjoyed the Loreto's Salad and the Lubina (Chilean sea bass), I would recommend both!
Guacamole was awesome! Best I have ever had! The mushroom quesilldillas were wonderful! Great service! We were there for lunch.
This is a profound statement by a french trained chef who knows how to fuse latin American authenticity to the nordic taste buds of Minnesota. Want to impress your friend and drink some amazing wines, go here
Took wife to Cafe Ena on her birthday because it's her favorite resturant, and she's a gormet cook. We're never dissapointed. Bit pricey, but always worth it.
Wonderful breakfast and lunch options for all tastes. Be sure to get the churros!
The service was great an the food was even better reminded me of home w/a twist!!! Well worth money spent you'll see us there again..Denorn / Jane Harris!!!!
Great experience and very creative and delicious. We met Hector the owner tonight...very passionate and friendly. I love cafe ena...so good. It's a local establishment.
Tasty and interesting food. Wonderful presentation. Make a reservation if you don't want to wait.
Can't go wrong with this place. Super fresh and excellent food that is reasonably priced. I've always had great service to boot.

Fabulous halibut, sea bass, scallops, salmon and lamb! Guac and sangria, of course. And amazing lemon-lime pie and creme brulee!
Nice experience ❤️❤️
Fantastic! The guac is TDF and both beef dishes were so savory. Service was also top-notch. Go!
Good food, nice atmosphere. Service was fine, but I expected more given the price and quality of entrees. Will definitely be going back.
Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend!
Awesome! Loved it. Wonderful service and a fun and lively restaurant. Be sure to get a reservation. It seems like a popular place.
Excellent food, good service. Enjoyed the semi-urban experience on the patio with ambulances, hot cars, and locals out for a walk.
Always delicious, amazing service and a cozy atmosphere. Love their guac and wine selection!
Out of this world food, especially their sea food. Great wine list and our waiter, Rene, was excellent.
I have NEVER not been amazed by this place. Guacamole, sangria, wine selection, lamb, beef, everything is always awsome. 5 stars!
Chef is excellent. Group of 10, good service. Outstanding preparation especially fish. Nice atmosphere.
Food and service were excellent! Never a bad experience. If you have not gone, do so!
The guacamole, porchini risotto w/fish and green beans are musts. The staff and ambiance complement the fresh, bright flavors.
Our first time there, was on Valentine's Day, I had the scallops and rice, it was delicious.
Great and amazingly wonderful tasting food, a little pricey.. and not a sweats type of environment but it's not a full blowen Fancy place
Great service and excellent food!
Delicious food in a small cozy atmosphere. Beer and wine only so if you're hoping for a cocktail you won't find it here.
Food is delicious and surprising
Why wasn't this on my radar? Sublime guac. Beet salad I could eat for days. Ceviche was out of this world. Wish it was in my neighborhood.
Good food from an interesting menu, moderately high prices. Great service--we sat indoors.
Very attentive service. Always delicious food. The best guacamole I ever had.
Service is great and food is just awesome. I enjoyed every single dish I ordered.
Nice space and delicious food.
Our server was very attentive and very cordial
Good. Not fabulous. Average service on the night I attended with only one forgotten order on a not so busy night. Pricey for the quality.
The food is really good. I just would like they do something about the mold smell when you enter to the restaurant.
Great food and friendly service. Try the guac and churros.
Never heard of Cafe Ena till we drove by. So glad we did, wonderful food and exceptional service.
Make a reservation for a dinner, lunch is generally open though. Really great Latin fusion food and excellent wine.

So under rated - one of the best restaurants in town. Phenomenal food.
