Truly enjoyed our dinner! We had guacomole and salsa and chips for apps; steak and pork belly tacos and chicken burrito with elote and black beans sides for dinner. Margaritas were yummy! Dinners came out as they were ready which we do not normally like; however, there was not enough room on small table for multiple dishes. They forgot to put in our burrito and elote order, so there was quite a delay for that. We enjoyed our dining experience tremendously! They were extremely busy but still gave excellent service. The tacos were one of the best we ever had!

This place was amazing and was a great dinner choice. One of the best mahi mahi tacos I’ve had. The chips and salsa options were also incredible. My wife had the vegetarian burrito which was absolutely amazing, and huge so I got to eat half. Nice atmosphere and very attentive staff.

I went here to eat last night with a couple of friends. It was sort of empty when we first came in but by the time we got our food, the place was packed. I ordered their hibiscus mocktail and a quinoa bowl. Both were delicious! They also sell small tacos here, but if you order the taco, get 2 or 3 of them at a time for satiety. The service could be better but it was alright considering how busy they were. I wish our server would have checked in on us to refill our drinks.

I had a chance to experience this restaurant that was highly recommended by a local while I was visiting from FL. From walking in, being seated, the staff was amazing. The tacos where a highlight of my day. They were filling but you could tell the ingredients were fresh. Everything was PERFECT! Great experience 😀

Chicken quesadilla was really delicious. We enjoyed our cocktails and the variety of salsas with chips. Definitely a nice place for some appetizers and tasty cocktails in the evening.

Overall good experience but I’ll get straight to the points. Pros: delicious drinks and food. We had a variety and everyone was happy with their selections. Everything is really fresh and comes out when it’s ready (not brought to the table all at once). Cons: SUPER small inside and we lucked out to get a table but don’t count on that without a reservation. Second, it was busy so service was a bit slow. We had to wait awhile in between drinks, orders, etc. so only come if you have awhile to wait beforehand for a table and during.

Here from out of town for work (Jackson, MS) and was told about this place from a co-worker. Food was delicious and drinks too. I enjoyed the guacamole, steak and chicken tacos and a Enter the Dragon drink. So good ! David was awesome ! I highly recommend !!

We went here on New Years Eve and it was overall a nice experience. They don’t have an elaborate menu but we had ordered chips and salsa (I thought this would be free at any restaurant that serves Mexican food but it wasn’t here). All the three types of salsas were yum. The spicy one being my favorite. And then we ordered veggie, mahi mahi and chicken tacos. Decent quality and taste for all of them. I would say the cocktails there were my most favorite.

We sat at the bar. The waiter wasn't unfriendly, but he didn't seem to make us a priority by any means. He forgot my drink. The tres leches cakes was GREAT, and the food we ordered was good as well.

This place is 10/10. We came in at 945 and these poor guys got slammed like 5 minutes later. They were still nice and bright us amazing food with great service. I think our servers name was Richie and he was fantastic. There was a blonde guy in a plaid shirt that looked super stressed, but he was still killing it too and wasn't upset at all. The bartender, who was wearing a pink hat, was slaying it with drinks. This crew was awesome and the cooks were just cranking out gold. We came in after a concert and i have a feeling a few others did. We will definitely be coming back here again! Guac, bomb. Ceviche, bomb. Micheladas, bomb. Queso, bomb. House chips, bomb.

Wonderful little tapas bar. The ceviche was delightful, the shrimp wonderful and the house margaritas dangerous. The margaritas were the perfect balance of tequila and mix to the point they tasted more like a citrus sweet water than a drink despite the tequila undertones. The chips seemed homemade and had a nice crisp and thickness to them. All of the salsas were flavorful first, heat second. I'd recommend.

Highly recommend the Red Snapper Ceviche!!! Guacamole was fresh & delicious! They didn’t miss with their delicious homemade tortilla chips! Quesadilla was delicious! Enjoyed the tapas style dining experience. Only cons: Wait staff was a bit distant (lengthy between check ins leaving us without drinks), and not a fan of the salsa style; prefer a fresh pico de gallo rather than the sauce style.

I am not the biggest fan of margaritas in general, BUT Barrio’s margaritas were delicious. Nice upscale atmosphere in a great location downtown. Has a decent happy hour, the food I did have was good too.

The food was delicious and David, our bartender, really added to the experience. It was a busy Friday night, and David claimed to be somewhat new to Barrio, but the way he was able to multitask around the bar while chatting with us, makes me seriously doubt that. I can't wait to come back and try more tacos and drink whatever David is serving up!

Barrio has great food and a fun atmosphere. The guacamole was so smooth and creamy, and both the tacos and tamales were fantastic. The servers were good and got the food out quickly on a fairly busy night.

I had a great time with friends at Barrio. Their atmosphere is fun and the cocktails are excellent. We had some great tapas and margaritas. I just wish they were open a bit later. Downtown Minneapolis seems to close very early.

Everything we tried was amazing. Our favorites were definitely the guacamole and ceviche. It's not often you find a fish ceviche and they nailed it with the red snapper. The staff was very friendly e en when being i credibly busy so close to close. I would definitely make a return trip next time I'm in town!

I made this a must visit again! The seating can be indoor or outdoor or in between! I love that they have open concept. From the skyscrapers to the decor - The view outside is beautiful. The waitress made some key recommendations on drinks appetizers and entree. The pictures speak for themselves.

Can't speak for the tequila, as it was lunch, but, those were some of the finest tacos I have had in downtown Minneapolis. Nice atmosphere, accommodating of a large group without reservation. Seemed a mite pricey for simple tacos, but, downtown usually is.

Great experience and food in downtown. Tapas style menu. A la cart tacos, enchiladas, tamales, etc. Not quite authentic Mexican, more of an elevated take on Mexican. Quality ingredients that come across in the flavor. Vast tequila menu as well.

The bartender had so much knowledge about tequila it was amazing. I learned a lot while getting reasonably priced flights for how expensive the tequila being poured was. Highly recommend this place if you want to try new tequila or learn about it.

Okay, another reason I moved back to the Twin Cities! I love, love, this place! First time there the bartender was very knowledgable about tequila. Lovely atmosphere and great music. I particularly am a new found fan of tequila. I tried two shot. Pictures are attached below I highly recommend both.

Excellent place to people watch. guacamole is fantastic and plenty. Make sure you try the hot dipping sauces with the homemade chips. Try the Pork Belly taco, it is delish! The Spicy Habanero Chicken Tamal is not very spicy. Fish taco is also fantastic. The other reviews are correct that they are alittle stingy on the product inside the taco.

Stopped here for a quick happy hour taco. Grilled chicken taco was really good. Grilled Gringo's taco had over flavored ground beef and a greasy shell. The saving grace here was the Slury Furious to wash it down. This place appears to be a locals spot cause it's not all that great. My waitress Marisa was not all that friendly. Other staff appears to do quite a bit of standing around fixing their hair and biting their nails.

Fun decor, good drinks, yummy tacos. The plates are tapas style so order more. This winds up being pricey, but you get good variety! Chips and salsa is a great deal, and the habanero is actually quite spicy!

Outside server with the blonde hair is beautiful. Would def eat all the guac instead of going to target for some off-the-rack salad again. Things could be more spicy though, we’re not all that Minnesotan. 5 stars cause my server (Andrew?) even moved an umbrella for me.

I am inherently skeptical of places on Nicolett Mall when it come to quality to price ratio but Barrio was truly excellent. We enjoyed guacamole, salsa arbol, a tostada with black beans and achiote chicken, the roasted vegetable tacos, elote, and roasted beet salad. Very nice and efficient service. Would definitely recommend and return.

We go here every time we’re in town. The tacos are bomb, chips are that perfect combo of crisp but not too thin, and the drinks are always on point. Service has never been less than 5 stars. My go-to margarita is the Pink Elephant.

To Go order. Food was great. I love a little spice and the pork tacos and tamal delivered. Might be a little spicy for some, but nailed my preference. Also had a carnitas taco. Great portions of meat in all items. They def didn't hold back. Great value, great food. I am from out of town, but will go again if I make it back to Minneapolis.

Delish! The salsas are great (the habanero one is the best!), both types of sopes we had were amazing👌🏼and the bar atmosphere is fun!! The guac... so good. The chilaquiles are ok. Drinks are well priced and they gave us one free for catching the bird that came inside the restaurant. Thanks!! From a couple of girls who know their authentic Mexican cuisine, this is a fun modern spin on it. I've been here a few times.... perfect place for date night, birthday or girls night. Thanks for letting us dine in our cosplay costumes. 😉

Went for a date night. The atmosphere was perfect for it. Staff were friendly, service was great, and food was delicious. I got the carnitas taco, a mahi mahi taco, and we shared the fried yucca and chips and guac. The fried yucca was the best I've had anywhere. The guacamole was lacking salt and lime. It was edible. Everything else was so delicious.

Easily one of the best restaurants I've been to. Our server was incredible throughout the entire time we were there, even though he was running the whole, packed dining room floor. We ordered the queso fundido and snapper ceviche as starters with chips and both were amazing! I could eat that ceviche every day. We each ordered three different tacos and they were all incredible. We made our way through a sampling of the margarita selections, I can't remember the names of the ones we tried...but there was a spicy one, a traditional one and one with the black salt that was easily the winner for the day! Cannot wait to visit Minneapolis and head back over to Barrio hopefully during patio season!

We had a steak burrito and the beef skewers over salad greens, very, very tasty. Service was fast but not pushy in any way, the servers are professional, informative and not overly chatty. Plates are small, sharing is a good idea as you may find you like your dining partner's food as much as your own.

Great Atmosphere and great Margaritas. Service was underwhelming, I will assume its due to being understaffed post covid? Sat at the bar and got a drink quickly but the food took forever. The chips and salsa I ordered came with my meal.. small detail but if your kitchen is backed up the least you can do its put those out asap. Food was great, just missed the mark on service overall.

In and out easily (w reservations) before a show at The Orpheum. Food was delicious, cocktails were tasty, staff was awesome. Will definitely return. Gluten Free dining was easy here, menu is marked for GF dishes, which is always helpful.

I am so glad that Barrio, Downtown Minneapolis is open again! I was heading to the Dakota and stopped at Barrio pre-show. The bartender was knowledgable and attentive. The food and drinks were 10/10. The restaurant could use a thorough cleaning and some maintenance. The bar stools were wiggly. I remember a very dramatic and large, red burning candle with wax in years past. Where did that go? It was so cool. The Barrio space is lovely and could look amazing with a little work and attention. Thank you for being here, Barrio!

A-MA-ZING! once I figured out what margarita I liked it was smooth sailing! Really recommend the black diamond! Bestie and I were there for a few hours and had many drinks in the evening hours. The staff is so sweet! We love this place! OH! And try the salsas! The medium heat one is sooo flavorful. The habanero is not a joke. It's very hot. I bought a pint of each! I'm one of those idiots who isn't happy unless I'm sweating and have my face running off me. It did the job!

I had a group reservation that ended up being larger than originally intended, so I called the day of to see if it could still work. Staff was awesome and assured me that we would be accommodated. I was a little nervous because it was a busy Friday night, but we were accommodated wonderfully, just as the manager (I believe his name was Patrick) said we would. Service was very good, our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. She made sure none of our guests were in need of anything. Food and drinks were super tasty as well. Overall, we had a great night and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to this location again.

I didn't know what I was missing! The lunch special is delicious, plenty of food, and only $10. When you consider that it's full of fresh ingredients prepared to perfection, that's a really good deal. I also found out that the vegetarian tacos can be made vegan. This is my new favorite place downtown for a date. The service is really great, too!

We visited Minneapolis for the first time and were delighted to discover Barrio Latin American food. The lunch special, mahi taco, and grilled tequila shrimp were deliciosos. The sangria was not too tart and the margarita was nit too sweet. Additionally, the service was perfect.

Typical sounding Mexican dishes served in atypical ways. I got an enchilada and quesadilla. Both were amazing! The chips came with three salsas. Two mild and one was crazy hot. My only complaint was the price. I'm not used to having to order and pay for chips & salsa at a Mexican restaurant. The dishes were also 30-40% more than I'm used to paying. And the dishes don't come with the typical rice and beans either. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the service was quick and responsive. Full bar as well. I'll be back because the food was good, but I will be looking for a more reasonably priced alternative downtown.

Be Prepared but a fun place with great food. I brought my family (all adults) to celebrate a birthday and enjoy something special. The food, amazing! Nice environment and lots of fun. One big problem for us was that our server did not explain how they serve. The portions tended to be quite small and they were served in stages so there was never really enough food to share with others and yet three of the five of us were left with nothing to eat for over 20 minutes after the first plate hit the table. The manager (a terrific gentleman) explained this is how they serve and said the server would normally review that with us...she did not. SO, bottom line - by all means go and enjoy some of the best Mexican cuisine I have experienced anywhere. Order plenty of food and know the small plates are truly small so ask for guidance when ordering to share. Figure on spending about $25/person for food then whatever your thirst dictates to enjoy the excellent designer cocktails.

The food is great! I can't drink so I can't vouch for the tequila, but I'm sure it's good too. I kinda feel bad for the bartenders though, because they have to climb up a tall ladder to get bottles. They pour alcohol into tiny glasses while they're up there, and I'm surprised they don't drop them more often. I certainly would! Anyway, the food is really good.

The food was good and came quickly, but plates were small, we felt very rushed and it wasn't a good value for our money. The crab tacos consisted of two of the smallest tortillas I've ever seen and enough filling to adequately fill one of them. And that wasn't even on the small plates menu. An adult would probably need to order three or four things to get a full meal, which would get very expensive. What food we did get was delicious, and the restaurant is beautiful and clean. So not a bad place, just not what I was expecting.

Amazing place for small plates and apps. They have plenty of drinks like flights and tequila. And they have tons of good appetizers like shrimp, chips and guac, etc. Their large plates are delicious, and their tacos are well-priced. Glad they have a few TVs as well. Service was fast enough. Definitely come here for a visit.

We ordered some late night snacks - guacamole, elote, and chips with salsa. All were great. Three tasty salsas in varying degrees of heat are served with chips that were salted to perfection. The guacamole was smooth but not runny. My daughter said the corn was the sweetest she's had in years. We hope to go back and try more menu items.

We reserved a table ahead of time, and I would recommend this as the place filled up fast...several walk-ins were turned away while we were there. Jesse was our server and was very attentive with excellent recommendations; actually all of the wait staff and hostess were very attentive, keeping our water filled and dirty plates cleared. The tacos were very fresh and tasty; great chips and three kinds of salsa. A good selection of Margaritas and excellent variety of Tequilas. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to Minneapolis.

We went to Barrio for a beer and some food after work. The selection of beers on tap was good. We had chips and salsa. I liked the 3 different salsas, and the chips was good too, but it had way too much salt.The menu is kind of Mexican, but portions are a lot smaller compared to a typical Mexican. I had the chicken quesadillas and it was delicious! I enjoyed the dinner!

I have not been in a while. Sat at the bar and had the lunch special. The atmosphere was welcoming the server was great and helpful and most of all the food was really good. The lunch special came with 2 tacos and a trio of guacamole, with 2 salsas and chips for $12. A great bargain for the amount of food.

The Happy Hour here is unbeatable! $6 Barrio Margaritas and $4 tacos, it’s by far the best deal in downtown. Food is delicious and the drinks are even better. Service is fast and super friendly. I am so happy to see downtown opening up.

Great food and atmosphere here. Tastes very authentic. I've never been a fan of the pricey small plate concept, but its good for a tasting menu. Drinks are pricey, but good. Worth checking out. They have a quieter downtown St. Paul location too.

I visited Barrio with my mom and sister before a concert downtown. This place is great! They have a huge, and very fun, selection of margaritas and tequila. The food is tapas style so we ordered and assortment of small plates and tacos to share. Everything comes out whenever it’s done (not all at once like a traditional restaurant) and everything was delicious - my favorite dish was the wild mushroom empanadas and my favorite margarita was the Cesar Chavez. We all agreed we’d go back again!

Very good place. Good flavors, more general latin than Mexican. Some dishes were not typical Mexican that is not to mean they were not delicious in their own version. Some typical dishes are elevated to their own creativity and version. Service was excellent and loved the sangria pitcher. Value is ok as some dishes are on smaller portion so it ends up as higher end Mexican at at some maybe $30 pp with tip included. I'll be back of I am in the area, some plates are really good.

We started with cocktails. And then shared everything on the menu we ordered. It was really refreshing to eat out and not be served so much food you had to lug it home. Everything was a satisfying taste and perfect size. Except for the desert that was quite generous. The wait staff was attentive and well versed with the menu and a flavors. We were served quickly in our food was always warm. It was very relaxing and low key . The food was also delicious.

First time here and will definitely be back. Wish we had something half as good as this in Duluth. My son tried everything and loved it all. Next time I won't do table side gauc it's not worth the 11 bucks. Get the regular stuff. The salsa trio was great and I also like how you order individual tacos.

The food was great. Went with a large group for happy hour and sat upstairs. The waitress, Jaqui K, was so rude and had such a bad attitude, that everyone at the table noticed and I asked her what was going on. She said she had to be strict with us because the reservation was for 10 people but more showed up. Our group comprised of doctors, lawyers and business professionals, looking to enjoy our Friday night happy hour, sans attitude. I get that it can be an additional challenge to take more orders than expected, which she handled the orders well, but the attitude was so off putting that many of us will not return.

Amazing food and atmosphere! Serving a table of 8 in the middle of a dinner rush on a Saturday night with no flaws in execution or timing of apps and main course is not always accomplished at many places. They nailed it! When others beside your server run your food to the correct person it is a sign of a place having their stuff together. My tacos and quest were amazing. Everyone was friendly! You don’t get that in a lot of cities during late night fun. Thank you! We’ll be back!!

A great mexican restaurant in the city center area. The menu has a good selection of small plates, tacos, and more, which includes chicken, pork, beef, fish, and veggie choices. The tuna taco was nicely executed. Good textures and seasoning. The shrimp taco was tasty, not spicy at all. The fish taco had a good crunch and good flavors. Three tacos were plenty. The tequila and drinks looked amazing, although didn't try any. It was a packed house on a Wednesday evening, which is a good sign this place would have some righteous bites.

Food was very good. Best Tequila bar in town. It would be criminal not to try a new brand of Tequila here. The menu is a little confusing. They have small plates, large plates, and appetizers. One order isn't enough food, it's hard to figure out how much to order. The food we got was excellent though.

I feel as if they should cook their steak more Other than that the bartender was nice to me. So I am giving it 4 stars :)

The atmosphere was great. Music playing and people talking but not loud at all. The tacos were delicious. I had a chicken and a carnitas taco. All served on corn tortillas. Didn't expect much from a tequila bar in downtown Minneapolis but was pleasantly surprised.kitchen closes at 11pm but bar stays open till 2pm.

We enjoyed a great happy hour. Unfortunately the outdoor patio was full but that didn't deter us from finding a seat indoors amongst that crowd. The margaritas were excellent and went down quickly. We had a couple of tacos and the chilaquiles were excellent. FYI...the chilaquiles were the best value. The service was very good and we enjoyed our time here.

Hand down my favorite happy hour spot. I mean, there's margaritas and guacamole. What else do you need? Happy hour often turns into staying for dinner. I'm a big fan of their taco selection. Lots of good fish, beef, chicken, and veggie options. The chilaquiles are the best I've had in town so far. The ambience is quite nice. It's definitely a popular spot so it fills up quickly after 5pm. The patio area is super popular during the summer and it can be hard to find a spot to sit. It's a major accomplishment to nab a table for lunch on the patio during the summer, but totally worth it.

We arrived for happy hour. So my wife had the house margarita. She said it was the best margarita she's had in a long time. The waitress said she'd be back before happy hour ended, but we were unable to flag her down in time. When she finally got back, she said it was too late for the happy hour specials. So, I went with their old fashioned. Their tequila was Los Nahuales, which was very good. Definitely one of the better old fashioneds I've had, but the garden-variety maraschino cherry was a minor disappointment. We started with the elote as an appetizer. It was very good - noticeably less hot than at Barrio Cafe in Phoenix (no relation), which shows they're in tune with their MN clientele. We also had the shredded pork tacos - excellent. Probably our favorite item. Were it not for the waitress forgetting to come around in a timely fashion, I would give them a 5-star rating.

A smaller bar and restaurant with consistently delightful food. Yummy, mix and match tacos and outstanding chilaquiles. There's a wide selection of tequila and a solid margarita. My only qualm is that I wished their salsas were thicker and chunky, instead of sauce-like.

Grabbed lunch with six colleagues today. They called ahead and had a table waiting for us. Even with six of us, the service was fast and the food was excellent. One colleague ordered an extra taco and it was out within 5 minutes. Small plates based lunch menu with some large plate options. Nice for sampling or a faster lunch. I had the Cubano and was impressed. Very impressive list of tequilas that I hope to try when I'm not working afterwards.

Good service, fun atmosphere, knowledgeable bartenders. I went once by myself and just tried tequila, and the bartenders I worked with were very helpful and helped me find drinks within my price range. I tried more food on my second visit. The guacamole is served in a sort of volcanic rock bowl, which looked neat, but was annoying as we got down to the bottom because the guacamole got "squished" into all the holes in the rock and we couldn't get it out. The cocktails are imaginative, and cater to a variety of tastes from sweet to spicy. I think the average diner could eat 2 of their tacos. I recommend the Pacifico beer battered fish, which was crunchy and well-flavored. I was a little nervous about the ahi tuna, since it's so soft, but it was served in a crunchy taco shell which made up for the texture (not that it was bad). The pork belly taco was quite spicy, but that would be my other major recommendation.

Perfect spot for a lunch - they have a $10 taco deal each day that includes two tacos and chips. The guacamole is fresh and tasty, and the seasonings are done right. Gets loud in there, but it's lively and great atmosphere. In the winter, ask to sit far from the door - the drafts from patrons coming in and out make it uncomfortable.

Great tacos and tequila selection. The bar tenders are friendly too. Good location and very easy to walk to from many places in downtown. During the warmer months they open the outside patio which is also a very nice perk as well. My two favorite tacos are the ahi tuna and pork carnitas, delicious! You probably only need 2-3 tacos, but I had to have a second of the ahi tuna. I also had the pork belly taco and it was very good too.

My wife and I wanted to go down to Chevys Fresh Mex but found that it had closed when we checked their website. We were looking for someplace downtown that would offer us something different then your standard Mexican place. Well we found it! Remember this a Tequila bar that also serves food. Don't bring the kids in hoping for booster seats and coloring books, it is a BAR. We were a little disappointed that we didn't get a reservation earlier because we had sit at the bar. The bartenders were very helpful and quick to help out with drink orders and to explain the food. We loved everything we tried and plan to go back again someday. Mexican food is our favorite so we like to see places that put a new spin on things. The food came out fast and was nice to look at and even better to eat. Our favorites were the Spicy Shrimp Taco, and the Crab Epandas. The chips and salsa were a nice assortment of Hot, Medium, and Mild. We plan to come back someday to do some drinking they had many nice looking drinks that we would like to sample.

I hope you are ready for tequilas! We ordered tapas style, so we covered most of the small plates they offered. To my surprise my favorite may have been the chicken skewers. Of all the other options from steak, to ahi, or shrimp, there was just something about the seasoning on the chicken that clicked for me. The only negative I have isn't really a negative, I came knowing we were going to have a bill that was 75% alcohol, 25% food. I was right. That said, the waiter was brilliant, he directed is to a few flights after answering a couple questions that were spot on. And it wasn't a money grab, he suggested a couple of the cheaper flights to my surprise and they were amazing. The exception was one tequila he said was simply amazing, so I ordered it (the shot was more than most bottles in the average liquor cabinet)... Wow. It was so good I had to hunt down a bottle for home It was asombroso extra anjeo, and tasted like a good tiramisu. Just. Wow.

Barrio definitely has a lot going for it, but it's got some growing to do in order for it to make its mark. The Good: It's interior is harmonious and elaborately designed, and you can tell that much effort went into every tiny detail: the multi-colored water glasses, the plating, the dancing mannequins, and the western movies playing on a big screen. The food is great, and for once reminds me of authentic Mexican cuisine (not just a Minnesotan interpretation). For those expecting gargantuan portions and mountains of red beans & rice, you will be sorely disappointed. Rather, the portions are adequate, elaborate, and appropriately priced. A dinner for two consisting of 2 small plates and 4 tacos will cost you under $30, but I HIGHLY recommend throwing in the chips for an extra $4. They aren't free, but they're far better than your average dried corn disc & economy sized salsa you might find somewhere else. The Bad: While well designed, the small footprint of the building makes for uncomfortable, cramped quarters and it gets downright UGLY on a busy Saturday night. Busy hours should be avoided if you don't like sitting at the bar and getting elbowed by waiters and customers clawing through the small passageways. While most of the food is very good, some dishes aren't up to par. Avoid the shrimp skewers: they look fantastic but the measly little cocktail shrimp are overcooked, swimming in sauce and have little character. If you've got a desire shrimp, get the taco instead: they are served with mint and are excellent. Also avoid the crab soup: it's old, smelly crab disguised inside of a spicy, creamy broth. I've noticed that most of the reviews reflect the lack of customer service at Barrio, and I generally agree, with some exceptions. The servers are a mixed bag, which means you have about a 50/50 chance at getting a good one. This would be tolerable risk if the hostesses weren't so abrasive. If you don't have a reservation prepare for the worst: you may wait all night. Barrio is best experienced during slow times: weekday nights.

Stumbled upon this restaurant because the one next door had an hour wait. We actually ended up sitting at the bar because this place was also full. We had tacos ($5+ per taco), quesadilla ($12ish), and lots of drinks ($9+) . They have a lot of Tequila selection! It was cool spot and walking distance to other bars and restaurants. Oh and its close to Target!

My husband has celiac, which means he can't consume any gluten. We found the Barrio on some "celiac friendly" websites, and happily went for dinner last night. Many items on the menu had an asterisk that was identified at the bottom as gluten friendly. I went ahead an asked to ensure that items we were looking at--starting with the chips and salsa--were actually gluten friendly. Nope. They cheerfully fry things like kids' wheat breaded nuggets in the same fryer. It's one thing to point out that *unintentional* cross contamination in a kitchen preparing both gluten containing and gluten-free items is possible, but that you're doing your best. It's quite another to claim certain foods on the menu are okay for people who can't eat gluten--but you're really cheerfully and knowingly contaminating those foods with gluten by sharing a fryer. That being said, I ate the guacamole and chips. The guac was a tad salty, but overall, delicious. I ordered the yuca fries with chimmichuri as I wasn't terribly hungry. The could have been fried hotter and made more crispy, so I only ate a few. Our hostess and waitstaff were very polite and friendly. I knew it wasn't the waitress's fault about the gluten, so we didn't take that out on her. The place was busy and folks seemed to be having quite a bit of fun for a Monday night. I would recommend the restaurant for anyone looking for a new place for Mexican night--but absolutely not for those with a gluten allergy.

Delicious food, had the house made chips and guac, carnitas taco and ahi tuna taco. Guac was smooth and mild on the crunchy chips, carnitas taco was two unctious bites in a corn tortillas, and the ahi tuna taco was fresh and clean with a bit of smoke from the cumin. Although I do agree with Omid Ferdowsi’s rating (scroll to 4 days before this one), I know he is a little harsh, so I had to make our total rating a 3 star (2 + 4 = 6 / 2 =3, for the mathematically challenged). The food was very bland, the restaurant is a bit small so everyone is very close. The drinks were good. The price was extremely high for what was placed on our tables, I mean honestly, play-doh has more flavor than those tacos did. I have been to every Barrio in the state of MN, because of the Barrio in Edina. Edina’s Barrio has AMAZING food. The staff is always attentive. Their drinks blow you away and the vibe in that location is everything. If you want a good experience I suggest Edina. Now, I mentioned that to the love of my lifetimes but he insisted the Minneapolis location. And here we are...

The last time I hit this location was a near disaster. We went last year on St. Patty's Day. We had a group of about 10 for a bachelorette. We reserved the upstairs corner booth. Remember it was about 80 degrees? They hadn't turned on the AC, they were short on plates, silverware and servers for the celebration, the food was not up to par. My recommendation is to go during Restaurant Week. Tons of food for $15/person. Drinks are good but pricy.

my mother and i had lunch here, after shopping for wedding gowns downtown. we had never eaten here before, and we were most impressed. the ambience was wonderful, the drinks were reasonable... and the food was amazing. i loved the ala carte nature of the menu. if you don't want a big meal, you can order a taco here, an enchalada there, a cup of soup etc. and it's not expensive. we thought we were eating in a fancy gourmet mexican restaurant like you might find in New York City. i strongly recommend this restaurant. We can't wait to come back on a nice day and eat on the sidewalk right on the Nicollet Mall.

Their $5 dollar margaritas are hard to beat especially with on of their many delicious tacos. If you are feeling a little more wild why not have a flight of tequila, or one that the very knowledgeable bar staff recommends. Whatever direction you decide to go you will be glad that you came to Barrio because it is always a party here.
