Reviews of The White House
Ben Van Raalte
Wow. What can I say what a great place to host a special event. The owners were very attentive for our celebration of life. They have an outside garden that is just beautiful for reception and an inside venue that is very family-friendly for a group of 25 to 40 people. Food was outstanding as well as the staff was attentive and friendly. It was just a great place to have this special event. They even made personalized menus in memorial. The scallops, filet, and wild mushroom pasta were all delicious.

I am a notoriously picky eater, and I have been to a lot of restaurants in Milwaukee and typically only leave reviews when things are less than stellar. But let me tell you the experience that I had at the White House this evening was borderline life-changing. The atmosphere was not only romantic and intimate but the food was by far the best I’ve ever had in Milwaukee. Chef Alexander’s menu had both my fiancé and I speechless! We chose from their great wine selection and started our meal with oysters Rockefeller, followed by our entrées (Filet Diane and they’re scallops which had the best sweet potato risotto) and then finishing with the crème brûlée and pomegranate sorbet infused with tequila. Allison, the owner made a point to come over and thank us for our patronage and to wish us a great meal. Overall 10/10 for both service and quality…I’m shocked they have not won a James beard award. We will be making a point to return regularly!

I had the opportunity to dine at White House last night. It was delightful. Our server was cheerful and attentive. The owner was kind and had the perfect balance of casual conversation but also allowed her guests to enjoy their time enjoying the fine establishment she and her husband have created.
I really enjoyed the craft cocktails, both the La Fleur & the Aviator. I had the Veal Saltimbocca and it was rich with some delicious green beans and some sort of pasta/orzo mixture. My dining partner had the Steak Diane and stated it was tasty as well.
The ambiance was lovely in that they had their Christmas Tree up and illuminated as well as some wonderful low lighting from the chandeliers.
This may sound strange, but the bathroom was adorable and I loved the attention to detail from the lighting to the simple decorations as well as it being toasty warm, especially on such a cold night.
I look forward to returning each season to see what the Chef creates for the cuisine as well as the craft cocktails.

Amazing Anniversary dinner at The White House Bay View! We’ve been wanting to check this place out for a long time and it did not disappoint. The fresh daily menu was amazing from cheese board to burrata salad, escargot, Wagyu with parsnip purée and white asparagus, gnochetti primavera and amazing cheese cake dessert. We will definitely be back to an ever changing menu! This restaurant is definitely the place to celebrate an amazing occasion. The hospitality here is second to none. #anniversary #anniversarydinner #finedining #wine #cheese #steak #pasta #cheesecake

I lived in Milwaukee for the majority of my life, so when I heard a friend telling me that we were going to The White House for dinner, it conjured images of what the iconic tavern in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee. Fine dining was not what came to mind. Add to that, having lived in Las Vegas for the past 6 years, I have come to appreciate ready access to a multitude of outstanding restaurants and their respective chefs.
I am reluctantly writing this review, because my fear is that it might ultimately mean getting a table will be difficult in the future.
To say that I was surprised would be a gross understatement. From the moment I walked in, it was an escape from the bitter Wisconsin cold. I immediately found myself in a warm, cozy, and intimate space. I had been in the establishment in its previous life, and it was now transformed into a true fine dining establishment. The character of the venue is subtle, welcoming, and classic. The historic bar and cooler doors on the wall anchor the room, while the plants and candles make you immediately feel comfortable.
The staff understands not just the essence service, but making it personal. Allison, the owner, and Grant, the general manager, are ever present. I noticed not only their interaction with me, but with all of the guests, making every table feel important, and valued.
Finally, there was food. Every course was a wonderful surprise, not only in terms of presentation, but in every element of the dishes themselves. Presentation, layers of flavors providing both balance and contrast, and texture, carry through each of the courses. By the time you are finished, it becomes difficult to say what your favorite part of your meal was. Chef Anthony Troisi has tremendous attention to detail, executing each dish with personal care.
Milwaukee has numerous high end restaurants. However, I cannot think of a single one that can present a such a complete fine dining experience as The White House. The historic venue, the personal and professional service, the warm and cozy ambience, and outstanding food all combine to make dining here an intimate experience.
7/29/2022 - Update
It’s been a year since I had the pleasure of dining at The White House. Many establishments can shine when they get started, and can’t maintain that initial momentum. This is not one of those situations. Last night we had the opportunity to dine outside by the garden, which made for a beautiful evening. The food seems to have gotten even better, and combined with a very respectable and reasonably priced wine list, it made for a memorable evening. The elk tenderloin, with mushroom and truffle risotto, gastrique, and white asparagus was spectacular. The desserts were incredible , and were as good, if not better than similar dishes from chefs holding some of those coveted stars. In Milwaukee’s food scene, Allison and her staff at The White House truly shine. Can’t wait to go back.

Everything was perfection. We went there for my husbands birthday and it absolutely exceeded expectations. The cocktails were delicious and the food was unbelievable! My mouth is still watering thinking of the Steak Diane and Crème Brûlée.
Beyond the food, the ambiance was spot on, a mix of antique and modern. I love the special touch of the antique books used for the check at the end of service. Allison and Thomas were accommodating, kind and you could tell how much the cared. This place has so much character and is filled with such good vibes. We will certainly be back!

Beautiful setting, complete with elegant candle lit tables and romantic old charm. I kept rereading the menu and was already thinking "I can't wait to come back here and try more!" The drinks and food were above and beyond. The Red Snapper, Hanger of Steer, and White House salad (seen in pictures) were flavorful and unique. Every bite was perfection! Thank you Alison and Sampson!

Excellent. My husband and I decided we were overdue for a nice dinner out just the two of us, and we decided to try the nearby White House that we pass every day on our way to work. Could not have been better. I think that was the best steak I've ever had in my life.

One of the best meals we have had in years rivaling anything other well-known Milwaukee restaurants can offer. Gracious, attentive staff, and absolutely beautiful setting. We will most definitely be back.

Awesome experience!! We went there to dinner, food was amazing , dessert were out of this world, ambiance was wonderful. Highly recommend it. Chef Alexander cooking is wonderful, tasteful and very creative.

Absolutely the best Sunday brunch in Milwaukee! Outstanding attention to every detail. Exceptional service and outstanding European themed food. Do not miss this Milwaukee restaurant. Outstanding to say the very least. Thank you all for your love & light!

Fantastic Experience All-around!
Got a nice tour of the renovated Estate. Indulged in a fantastic charcuterie tray! Also, you have to try their delectable duck cracklings. Pair it with one of their delicious red wines... Or white I guess LoL
Outstanding Job!
Such a Great Addition to the Culinary Promise in Milwaukee right now 🤓

Overall the White House was overpriced given the quality and service we experienced.
We went in for a Friday night dinner. The escargot was the best part of the meal. The beet salad was below par with very little flavor and a chunk of goat cheese hidden underneath a lot of beets - I love beet salads but it lacked flavor and was hard to eat and meld what flavors it did have. The main courses seemed over priced for what you got. The food was still good but had small execution issues given the price -ie fig sauce on the duck was watery and not enough thickness to stick to the meat. Or broccolini was over-salted.
Lastly the service crew was slightly over-attentive and a bit awkward. When asking where the bathroom was, the server not only told us where it was but that if we went too far we would go outside and have to pee on the dumpster. Weird. They paced the meals off so getting food before barely starting the previous one - just not the level of service you expect when you are paying $40-$80 for a main course.
Again, food good but overall experience is not worth the price. Love the decor.

Some of the best food I have had in the US. Foie Gras and escargot were amazing. My scallops were not overcooked and the bed of squid ink pasta was a perfect al dente. It would be a tragedy to let this place go out of business.
Emily Pohl-Stancato
My FAVORITE spot for Sunday brunch. The ambiance and experience of this classy, understated restaurant is unlike any other spot in Milwaukee. I love what Alison has done with this building, it's light and fresh, yet moody in all the right ways. She makes every customer feel like a VIP. Grant is the most friendly server/bartender we've met and skillfully whips up each cocktail to perfection. And the chef is SO TALENTED. I love everything I eat here, but his brioche french toast is the BEST I have ever had. This has become a "regular" spot for me and my husband.

Our dinner experience was phenomenal all the way around. The food was exquisite, some of the best fish I’ve ever had! Food presentation was extremely pleasing. The place itself has character and the owner clearly embraces this in every detail, down to receiving our bill in a Shakespearean novela. The service was top notch and personal, we were treated like family and royalty at the same time. Can’t wait to go back!

Recently held our team dinner here and it was such a great experience! Accommodated all event requests, and the food and staff/service was fantastic. They created a very elegant and special holiday dinner menu for our group too. Everyone in the party really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, high praises from all! A must add to your dining list!
Michelle Schultz
An elegant and refreshing dining experience. The space is gorgeous, beautiful and inviting. Allison the owner, has put such great care in restoring this historic and iconic building woth great love, you can feel it.
Staff and service warm, attentive and knowledgeable.
The cocktails and wine list - amazing!
The menu, Chef Robert is a culinary genius presenting a rotating menu that is simply delicious with fresh ingredients, some locally sourced. The veal is delicate and divine. Beet Salad - my favorite - the best in the city. And the soups - perfection.
Great for date night or casual mid week dinner.
Brendan
I feel like I could die happy following every meal here. Easily the most talented and welcoming staff at any restaurant in the entire city. We were greeted by Grant, who makes the meanest old fashioned in the midwest, and has the mustache I only wish I could grow. He gave us great drink recommendations and even better conversation through our dining experience. Samson and Allison are a wonderful serving team, making you feel as if you are right at home every time you go there. All of the staff remembered myself and my girlfriend after months in between our visits, even remembering our drink orders the last time we dined in. The food is absolutely to DIE for, from the amuse bouche to the custom dessert the chef prepared for my girlfriend’s birthday. The presentation and decoration of every single dish are just as impeccable as the flavors they deliver. We absolutely love it here and cannot recommend Grant, Samson and Allison enough!!
Nicholas Binder
The service is top notch and the food is a unique variety we don't see often outside our great tapas restaurants we have in town. It has a warm feeling about it; makes a great destination for a date night. My wife's black bass dinner is easily the best fish dish I've had in Milwaukee or maybe ever, anywhere.
John Wilson
The atmosphere was warm and intimate, perfect for a valentine dinner. The appetizers were very well done; the escargot was sublime and the elk tenderloin in a berry compote was the star of the night!
Bill Frey
We recently had dinner at the White House for the first time since it opened in December of 2019, and our experience was excellent. The historic decor and nostalgic music made for a pleasant and friendly environment. The service was prompt, the food was delicious and the beverages were well-paired with our meals. The hostess, Allison was very attentive and responsive to our requests. The staff really goes out of their way to give you a memorable fine dining experience. Finally, a quality restaurant on the Milwaukee's South Side worth returning to again and again!

Drinks and ambiance are amazing. My wife and I have gone just for cocktails and are never disappointed. Service is always excellent. We had a very expensive dinner once in January and it was hit and miss. I had ribs and my wife had steak both of which were disappointing due to them being very fatty. The side dishes were outstanding. We will give dinner another shot sometime for sure as the menu changes often.

Had a birthday dinner at this restaurant last night and I was blown away by the experience. The cocktails were delicious, every meal we ordered was fabulous and plated beautifully and the desserts were out of this world! The ambiance was intimate and relaxing with great service. The owner has done a great job restoring this beautiful and historic building. Fair prices for an excellent fine dining experience! You HAVE to check this place out!

First of all, thank you to all the staff at White House. They always take such good care of us and make us feel very welcome every time we visit.
The food itself is always excellent and above average for fine dining. Everything we have tried has been outstanding and we truly appreciate the care and preparation of each dish. Everything is homemade, even the bread! It is so refreshing to go to a restaurant where your expectations are exceeded with every visit.
Laura French
My partner and I ate here this evening and we were really impressed. I’m gluten and dairy free and they were so understanding and had multiple options for me to choose from. I ordered the lamb and just wow, seasoned and cooked perfectly. The lighting was perfect, the candles and unique flowers on the table were a unique great touch. The bartender even made me a off the menu mock-tail that I couldn’t get enough of. Highly recommend. Great spot.

FINALLY came here to dine! Had an amazing experience. Staff was attentive and didn't miss a beat. Atmosphere was a MOOD. Stunning presentation and everything was delicious. Allison, the owner is one of the best dressed around, worth it alone to witness her beauty and style. <3

I had an amazing experience here! I went with my wife for a random saturday night out. We ordered a bottle of cava for the evening. I had the lobster bisque soup which was amazing. My wife had the escargot which were top top top(first time trying them).
For main dish we had the veal t-bone and the scallops. Everything was delicious and you can tell quality when you taste it!
For dessert we had the creme brulee with lavender.
Staff is very nice and friendly. And they did an expectacular job with the patio area, if its summer sit outside!
This is my go to spot for a nice evening with my wife.

I was celebrating my first visit to Milwaukee and my 50th State! I have now visited all 50 and what an excellent restaurant to celebrate it! The staff was fabulous - great cocktails from Sampson and my server Grant was friendly, efficient and helpful. The escargot was delicious, the scallops and risotto with asparagus was amazing and my surprise Creme brûlée was the perfect ending to a wonderful evening. Beautiful historical building with the bar operating since 1893. Definitely worth a visit!

In the four years that my wife and myself have been together we have eaten to my count at approximately 200 different restaurants in 5 different countries. The White House is well to the top of the list. The ambience and the unique characteristics of the dining space added to the meal. It was relaxed and intimate. Cool, mellow jazz played at an appropriate volume level giving our time there a 1940's/50's feel. The room is furnished in an eclectic manner that promoted warmth, encouraged conversation, and allowed for not feeling rushed as so many eating establishments do.
The food was nothing short of exquisite. It is obvious that there is pursuit of excellence. I started with a cream of asparagus soup that was flavorful, and complete in its flavoring(a nice healthy helping as well) The spinach salad with duck was fresh, crisp and tasty. Finally an old world schnitzel as my entree was probably the best I've ever had. The meat was juicy and tender with a coating that was beyond description. My wife had the tenderloin filet which she commented was prepared to complete perfection.
While it was slow this particular evening the service was sharp, attentive(without being overbearing), nicely paced, and more akin to being served by old friends as opposed to a typical wait staff.
Proprietors Allison and Zach, as well as their operations manager Grant have learned their trade well in their time working for Mader's (still one of my favorites in Milwaukee) I admire what they are creating in a landscape of average chain restaurants. That being a unique dining experience. They are to be applauded. In the future our 3-4 visits to Milwaukee per year will include dinner at The White House.
Derek Broyhill
They were extremely busy and understaffed. We were served by both owners at the bar and at the table, which was concerning, but, great to see them passionate and hustling. It’s just odd that there was no other waitstaff but maybe one, on essentially Valentine’s Day. However, I’ll give them a pass there, because obviously the quality is among the top in Bay View and even Milwaukee, and it only recently opened. The worst part really was the appetizer (antipasto) which was good but not much food for $14. I feel like this is an easily prepared and cheap menu item for them to get right, so that was a let down, especially since the wait for main course was very long (over an hour) and a few pieces of meat and cheese and bread lasts but 10 minutes. This on top of goofing up our reservation—we sat at the bar a while, 30 minutes or more, until a table cleared. Everything else was fantastic honestly; it seemed like a one off experience, the main courses and upscale hip-chic ambience typical of Bay View did not disappoint. It’s great to have another fine dining establishment in the area.
Alyssa Geisler
I really wanted to love it, but was disappointed by the lack of Covid awareness/protocols. It was chilly, so we reluctantly agreed to dine inside. We had a beautiful table in a small room by ourselves, which felt safe, however, several staff members walked right past our table and talked to us/served us without wearing masks (this even in spite of the fact that I put my mask on whenever a server approached our table). I will not be back to dine inside - definitely not the service I would expect from a high quality restaurant such as this.
Patricia Ball
Outstanding dinner at the White House. Amazing scallops with divine mushroom risotto. Clam chowder was the best we’ve ever had! Spacious and well-appointed dining room. A Bay View gem.
Erica Festge
The quality of food and service can't be beat. From the warm ambiance, friendly staff, and care put into every dish, it is clear that the owners, management, and support staff truly care.
If you're looking for a place to enjoy a fine dining experience, incredible craft cocktails, or just drinks and dessert, The White House is the place to go.
Robert Dallman
So impressed with the creative dishes. Even more impressed with the waitstaff service - especially Allison(the owner). Great prices. I’ll be back in coming days as it was that good. Note Allison , for health reasons , doesnt wear a mask altho everyone else does; i am comfortable that.
David Nestingen
Excellent restaurant, with wonderful large windows looking out on a broad Bayview street scene. Service was personal and warm. Food was inventive and yummy. Only concern was the prices a bit high and the drinks a bit skimpy, esp. the wine.
George Blomgren
My wife and I enjoyed dinner here tonight. Amazing. Great food. Awesome service. A wonderful ambience. Reasonably priced. The best schnitzel I've ever had, and delicious pate. I can't wait for my next meal there!
Tanner Kreitzmann
You know that part in the Pixar movie Ratatouille? When the critic has that one bite that blows his mind. It's like that, but for every dish and cocktail served here. The staff are incredible, and the venue is gorgeous. I can't wait to come back.

Most romantic spot in Milwaukee. The food and service is outstanding. My boyfriend and I have been coming here since November of 2020 and have never had a bad experience. The owner, Alison, has created a beautiful spot for an excellent dinner. My go to-the Duck and Escargot. Never goes wrong and is impeccable. Their wine selection is top notch and puts many other restaurants to shame. If you want a romantic evening come here and get the crème brûlée with extra black berries. 10/10 and always recommend.
