I wish I had the time to spend more time there however I was on a mission for churros and El Rey did not disappoint. In fact there were better than the churros I had south of Phoenix last time we were in Arizona. Unfortunately when I arrive they were out of the plane flavor however a young lady came over to check on me and asked what I was looking for. Within 3 to 4 minutes she came back with a bag of 12 plain churros which is exactly what I was looking for... Coincidentally my mouth was watering as I was passing the hot food deli... I am coming back to El Rey, very soon!!!!

I think I went when they were close to closing, so all the bakery and stuff was shut down, but that's what I went for lol, but staff was super nice, and easy to communicate with. (Let me reiterate, I understand it's a Spanish market, but it was very nice that people there spoke a little bit of English to help me since I speak 0 Spanish 😂) will always go back there. They have amazing food, and pretty good prices as well.

Great place to find Hispanic foods and products. Prepared food section is great, they have Chicharrones con Carne, Carnitas, Tamales, Flautas which are all good. Their fresh baked good section does not lag behind, their churros are some of the best I’ve had. Produce section is clean and organized, prices competitively set with big supermarkets. You will find all that you need in this store and then some. I will definitely be coming here again. Just restrain yourself from buying everything you see in here, your wallet will definitely be grateful for it.

Everything I bought there was delicious (after I cooked it) all the workers were cordial and I never thought I was out of place. I even learned a little Spanish). To add on to what I already know. I would recommend this grocery store to anybody looking to buy quality groceries....

I love this store. I am from Dallas,Texas and we have quite a number of Mexican Markets. Not just in Dallas but all over Texas. I moved up here to Milwaukee,Wisconsin, about almost 2 years ago , searching for a grocery store like we have down South. Well, I found El Rey's and I am so grateful to natives here in Wisconsin that directed me to this wonderful store. El Rey's has everything I need to make homemade Chile and tamales and their meat department is very nice. Their homemade Chorizo is so delicious. It reminds me of home. So, if your looking for authentic Mexican goods, El Rey's is the place to go. They more than one location too. The closest one for me is off of Oklahoma Dr. in West Allis/ Milwaukee County. I will be going there as soon as possible.

The trees leches cake from here is to die for. When I don't want to spend 8 hours making some refried beans it's nice to be able to go here and get a tub of them hot and ready to go. Their pico de Gallo is also something I would say is a highlight here. Fresh churros and tortillas every day.

Everything was very reasonable priced. I bought all the ingredients to make pozole. At half the price than pick n save. Also they had everything that I needed. Pick and "Save" was missing half of everything. It was a lot of work to make but was very very good and enough for 20-30 servings. Next time though I am just gonna go to Jalisico have have them make it.

It didn't have as much as its counterpart the El Rey on 16th and national but it had a good selection and they didn't have genuine Puerto Rican rice the tamales I bought were good quality and warm guacamole was good produce section was decent overall I gave it four stars sorry I didn't take any pictures

This El Rey Family Market location is very good! It is a family favorite. They do a great job with their curbside service. Inside the store, items are always stocked and plenty. The staff is super friendly and willing to help you. At this location, there is ample parking. The only reason I did not give a five star rating is because the pan dulce often has a poor selection or is not kept well. They could upgrade where they house it and do a better job of calculating what sells. So, when I go in for conchas, mantecadas or churros they actually have some! It is rare that I go and I find some. But when you are lucky enough to find your pan dulce, it is very good! The meat prices are decent and the salsa selections are great. They sell a nice variety of tortillas, tostadas and chips!

I love this place!!!! I have not had a bad experience here yet. The staff is friendly the manager is great. They have good deals every week. It's where I go to get my fresh chorizo, chicken fajitas, al pastor, the restaurants inside has fresh and I mean fresh made juices. Every week they have a deal of some kind of in the restaurant, the food there is very very good. Homemade chicharrones, the good kind with that little bit of meat on them. And I love that I am only three blocks away from them, the one on 51st and Oklahoma. And while shopping here. I found out that you can buy "taco meat" and I am hooked, and I'm not talking about ground beef people. I also like to get my pork shoulder here for when I make pulled pork. They sometimes have it priced at $0.99 a pound. I think my favorite thing here is El Rey's homemade flour and corn tortillas. And if you catch them on a day when somebody is actually making them, it's really interesting to watch.

If you have not been to El Rey what are you waiting on? It has a on site restaurant, a deli where you can purchase hot and cold food. You can also purchase pre cooked cold food such as as tamales, rice, refried beans etc. It has a full service butcher section, with a wide variety of meats and cuts of meat. To top it off it has a check cashing section. Above all it is very clean, organized and the staff is very helpful. P.s. Did I mention the amazing produce section? 🤔

I usually go in the morning when there aren't a lot of people. The hot food is always fully stocked, as is the bakery. There's always a bunch of selection of meats as well. Big coffee and hot drink mix selection like hot chocolate and atole. The produce is usually pretty good too. Whenever I have trouble finding crispy and fresh grapes, I end up coming here and wonder why I don't come here first because they're always exactly what I'm looking for. The only downside about El Rey, and not just this location but all of them...is that they close at 1900. I get we are still in a pandemic, but a lot of people still work and it's hard to go before work or immediately after when you have kids. Even 2000 is a better option. That one hour makes a huge difference for some people, including me. If it weren't for the closing time. I'd give them 5 stars.

They are always so nice here and the food is always amazing. I enjoy that they open at 7am since I work 3rd shift and their entire menu is available in Taco Loco, and they have hot dinner-type foods available in the store displays as well. Their prices are beyond reasonable for the portions and the food is amazing.

Good prices. Smaller store but huge selection. You can find whatever you need and more. Restaurant in the store is also good. You can quick run in and run out for a small purchase or shop for the month. You can even pick up a hot dinner to go home with. Try the tamales. Love this place.

For the location and the size of the building this is a pretty well-run establishment. I would never have thought just by driving past a place that there would be a grocery store in that spot but there definitely is. Right as I walked in through the door you can smell the food cooking in the deli section. It's a little cramped but overall it's an excellent place and if you're looking for authentic Mexican food then this is definitely a spot.

This place is multiple things at once to get things straight from the start. It is a: marketplace, bakery, has a small restaurant inside, you can buy lottery tickets, wire money, and send mail which is nice. The marketplace is great for meat, spices, sauces but stay away from fruit! We lost almost $10 worth of fruit here! We opened a papaya and some mangoes...they were rotten inside! Double check expiration dates on cheeses. Bakery is good. The pre made food area by the bakery is not bad either. Restaurant is average. Have been to better Hispanic restaurants to be honest. Lottery area is convenient but only if there aren't people waiting to pay in the express lane which is where it is situated. Mailing area is also great when there is someone available. But have not done any money wiring. Bathroom is clean.

They have nice new coolers in the diary and meat aisles! Great selection of authentic ingredients. The food at their attached restaurant is always fantastic and very modestly priced. They have a great selection of fresh bakery and sweets, as well as fresh hot food by weight, such as tamales, empenadas, pico de gallo, and of course refried beans.

I stopped by El Rey for the first time this weekend, and I was quite impressed. Great selection of fresh veggies, fruits and meat. Everything I took home was fresh and tastes great. Their prices are fair, and I really like the no nonsense pricing. I'm sick of all these "sales" at Pick N' Choose. The aisles are a little skinny for my liking, but it wasn't that difficult to navigate. It was a busy Sunday afternoon, and the merchandise was all faced and looking fully stocked. Big selection of unique Hispanic foods, yet all the essentials you need. Give it a try, it will be a nice break from the crappy big box grocery stores.

Love the meat sales and they always have the best tamales I've ever had. I always end up buying some whether they are on my list or not. I can always find the ingredients for what I'm cooking and they have the shelves and coolers well stocked. Only problem I noticed is they don't sort their produce like they used to. I never used to see moldy or rotting or bad produce a couple years ago, but now, every time there's something that looks way past it's usability. I avoid produce for the most part and shop elsewhere for it now, but I will continue to patronize them for everything else. Especially tamales.

Conveniently located. They carry almost everything Latin ethnic foods. Their produce is fresh, good variety. The meat department has improved recently; it is way cleaner now. Kudos for management. Bought some pork tamales possibly they change the recipe. And they were more greasy than usual. And my wife ate four of them and she said the last one she ate had a taste like medicine or something. Like a menthol flavor in her mouth. We usually buy these tamales all the time but this time and the last time we bought them they just didn't taste the same.

A bit roomier than the 35/Burnham El Rey. Bakery fresher than some Mexi grocers, empanada just a tad greasy but very full inside and burrito not greasy but equally well stuffed. Too far to be my regular store but I will be making special trips. Such friendly cashiers, volunteering info I didn't even know I needed!

Great local Hispanic grocery store with a restaurant inside too! I come here for the fresh made tamales daily and the delicious bakery. Everyone is always friendly and willing to help you find what you need. The selection is not like any other in Milwaukee area.

My go to neighborhood store for produce and meats. Always clean and stocked. Plus the hot food from the deli (tamales, empanadas, chimichangas, rice, beans, etc.) is excellent. For those interested, the employees are all wearing masks and they have markings for 6 foot and one way shopping.

They have a little restaurant in here and im commenting on the restaurant part of this location. The food is rather good and definitely better then pineapple cafe, Jose's or other joints in the Milwaukee area. The price is good for the portions. The staff is usually quick to serve though they could be alot more attentive! The portions are good and the seats/ tables are usually clean. iv'e eaten here many times and enjoyed it! try it

A much smaller version of 2 other El Rey stores. This one has a wide selection of fresh produce with an emphasis on tropical products like Papaya and Mango and Plantains. They also include on site butchers and fresch as well as frozen meats and seafood the poultry cuts are always a bargain as well as the pork. The store the usual carries a selection of kitchen staples. An in store bakery with American as well as Hispanic sweets are always available and an in store Mexican eatery is also available with limited seating. Its worth a quick visit if you have never been in the area.

One of the employees recommended the beef tamales. I had never had them before. So I tried them. They were okay I was not very impressed. The Masa was very very thin. Not very much Masa at all. The tamales were very thin all together. The taste was okay they were just very thin and flimsy. Definitely not worth the price.

An awesome store with wonderful produce, meat and bakery goods. The food at the restaurant and take out counter is very good. The churros from the bakery are amazing. And their pico de gallo is worth the drive any day. So fresh! I have yet to try the shredded chicken from the takeout – next time for sure.

So so thankful for the deals on meat! And they don't waste- many packaged up parts, I even saw a cow head once! They sell other unique meats too. Today I saw frog legs and octopus in the freezer section. I always use the ad before making a stop but I love finding new things there and the store itself looks great.

just picked up a few things from the hot deli and the Churros were so good got the caramel filled one, the chili rellano tasty and yummy had the chicken and pork falutas they were not over cooked and again yummy have the puerto rican rice and that lacked a little flavor but hey its there recipe the best El Rey to get the Puerto Rican rice from is the one on 13th and Burnham. but over all the hot deli is really good eats.

I have been going here on and off. Some things have changed over times (tortillas,churros, and tamales). Despite some of the subtle changes to those products I still love coming here for the groceries and in store restaurant. Some of the ethnic foods here can be hard to come by if this place wasn't here. Having lived in that area it is a good community store.

This store was still trying to find it's feel for the neighborhood when it opened six months ago. But they have adapted. If you have a question about any of the products they offer...ASK! They are more than willing to assist you. Love their produce department which is far and above the best in the area. Can't wait for the cafe area to open this summer.

Well stocked store. They have a plethora of items not usually available in most stores. Employees very helpful, although several are much more fluent in Spanish than English... Not a problem for me. I did not stop in the restaurant this visit, but it has wonderful food!

El Rey is an absolute must if you're looking for quality Mexican ingredients, but it's also just a great grocery store in its own right. The produce is excellent and cheap. The meat department has a great variety and I really appreciate that they use the whole animal. I've seen chicken feet, pork feet, pig heads, and many other things you normally don't see in a supermarket. There is also an in store restaurant serving Mexican food and a prepared food deli and bakery. Everything I've ever purchased has been fresh and delicious. El Rey is great and worth a visit.

Went to El Ray for gift cards. Got those, but also cruised the produce aisle. If you want Hispanic specialty foods, they have them in abundance. I bought cilantro at a very good price. To my great surprise they had watercress. Watercress! I haven't seem that in the big box supermarkets maybe ever. Passed it up this time, but made a mental note of I ever need some, or cactus leaves, or asian sweet potatoes, or interesting root veggies. Hooray for El Rey!

My husband and I went to this store for the very first time and we will definitely be back. We were trying a new recipe that required a bunch of different peppers we couldn't even pronounce. We found everything on our list at the store. The variety of dried peppers and spices is great. Also, the produce is fantastic and reasonably priced. In the past, my husband would've been on a four hour scavenger hunt going to Woodmans, Festival, Metro Market, Sendiks, etc. looking for these unique items. We got all of the items we needed and then some. I love that the store isn't a HUGE market. It feels like a neighborhood grocery story.

Update: March 2022 - indoor dining is available again. The good times are back. El Taco Loco (Attached to the El Rey grocery store) El Taco Loco is a restaurant attached to the El Rey grocery store. You can enter through the store itself or through one of two separate entrances. El Taco Loco serves real Mexican cuisine at very reasonable prices. Breakfast is served from 7 to 11 am. The lunch and dinner menu is served from 11 am to 8 pm. There is a fresh juice bar but no liquor is served. Everything can be ordered alacarte or as part of a dinner. Occasionally certain items are available even though they are not a normal part of the menu (Tamales and Stuffed Peppers for example). There are daily specials for both food and soup: Monday - Chimichangas / Caldo de Res (Beef Vegetable) Tuesday - Tacos / Caldo de Res (Beef Vegetable) Wednesday - Barbacoa Burger / Fideo (Chicken Noodle) Thursday - 12” Mexican Pizza / Pozole (Pork and Hominy) Friday - Fish Fry Taco / Sopa de Camaron (Shrimp) Weekends - Barbacoa (Braised Beef) / Menudo El Taco Loco is not ‘chain style’ Mexican food - it is the real deal.

This is a nice store, very clean, variety of fruits, veggies, fresh deli meats, all Goya products, rice, every seasoning you can think of. The reason I only give this specific EL REY 3 stars is because of the prices are a bit higher than the 35th & Burnham location. Also the inside is very cramped & to manuver through the small aisles when the peak hrs hit its not a big issue but they need to widen the aisle. The main reason I lowered it to 3 stars is Because OF THE most recent visit there I had purchased chorizo regular and it was so horrible. It was overflowing WITH RAW GARLIC & ONION. That totally over powered the real flavor of every other seasoning in that. I've been raised eating this and this WAS THE WORST EVER I'VE EVER GOTTEN FROM EL REY. I won't visit this store again. I'll stick to 35th & Burnham!
