I have always enjoyed the food at the several El Nopal restaurants I have visited throughout Louisville. They've all been clean, and have a pleasant ambience but this one seems not have an adequate sense of what good customer service should look like. It was 1:30 and except for me and the staff, the place was empty until 2 more customers came in. If I'm done with my meal, in need of a take-home box or bill and see that a restaurant is busy, I accept the fact I might have to wait a while to get a server's attention. This day, in a nearly empty restaurant I could see my server doing nothing. She never came by to ask if I needed anything during the meal. When I was ready to take home my uneaten food, I sat for several minutes giving clear signals I was done. I finally stood, grabbed a nearby Styrofoam box, scraped my food into it, still standing, giving clear indication I was ready to go. But my server, whom I could still see seated, didn't look my way. People in this country have a reasonable expectation of a pleasant EXPERIENCE at a restaurant. It doesn't take extraordinary effort for a server to provide that, in addition to the basic effort of taking an order and delivering it. Ignoring or being oblivious to a customer's needs is ultimately a management failure. When a server is put on the floor it is the job of MANAGEMENT to ensure that each server understands the various expectations of the customer. Will I return to the Gardiner Lane or any other El Nopal restaurant? Very likely, yes. Will I give a better review, if asked? I hope so.

Amazing food. Great experience i had the tortilla soup and steak tacos. Amazing. So much food. I even had take some home. Definitely gona finish later!! You have to come here! The staff is amazing as well!! Thank you for a great lunch

Order lunch specials today. Unfortunately the waiter didn't understand I wanted the special off the board when you entered and I got something other than what I wanted. BUT El Nopal is a good place to get food fast at a great price.

The waiter was not quite friendly until he brought the check. Hard to get refills on drinks or more chips. When we asked, he did not reply but would bring them after a long amount of time. Unusual, we used to love this place .....

We went on a very busy weekend night. The staff was great despite having several very large groups in and countless carry out orders. My special request for a dairy-free version of my entree was perfect! The kitchen staff was cranking out the orders and still maintaining their high standards. And even though they were soooo busy, they kept up with sanitizing menus, clearing/sanitizing tables, and the bathroom was spotless. Definitely eat here! Very professional staff and management!

I have been to many El Nopal's in the area and always order the same meal (chicken fajitas with pineapple) but this is the first time it came in a pineapple and was so beautiful and delicious. I will drive the hour to come back to this one.

The food was delicious. There are many options on the menu including TexMex and more traditional Mexican dishes. There are 2-3 specials you can choose. We had a hard time with the slow service--it seemed almost like our server forgot about us a few times. Did anyone actually read this? "Like" if you did!

I’ve had a few bad experiences here. One in which we found plastic in our food and when we told the waitress, she didn’t really react or offer to do anything about it. We aren’t really the type to complain, so we didn’t make a scene about it but it was gross. Then they messed up our bill, charging us for food they never brought us. However, this is a place that our extended family frequents, so we tag along often. We have also had very great experiences here too. So, some good some not great.

I got the chicken grande quesidila. It was wonderful. Great food, great service and great place for any occasion. Ate there again and had the tilapia with rice and avocado. I ate every bite. It was AWSOME!

only ate there twice and each time I felt rushed uncomfortable and like im being watched. the first time I was waiting on a friend and I sat there ordered a beverage and 30 min passed by my friend lived far and I was already on my way, waiting wasn't a problem in that 30 min I got asked 5 or more times to order when I repeated each time I was waiting on a friend. While being watched by waitresses and workers in the restaurant my particular waitress talked about how long I was there in Spanish in a joking matter with other staff when my friend arrived I explained to her my horrible experience and we took our food to go. the second time I ate by myself on a lunch break and I experienced being rushed to eat order and leave again i felt uncomfortable and being watched while I waited after I had finished eating I talked on my phone for 10min or so . I wont go there again that particular waitress was rude and nasty when I was nice and respectful even when upset I wont go again

There food is very good, I was carrying out which is a long wait. This is the second time I've carried out from there the first time I called my order in and still waited 20 minutes after I got there. This time I thought I would see if ordering there would be quicker, they weren't busy but my go order took 30minutes after ordering.

Friendly, warm, inviting staff. They are always happy to see us and make my daughter feel very special. Each meal is consistent, every single time. My favorite dish is a modified Monica's platter. A bed of lettuce instead of rice and topped with Pico de Gallo. I know, when I ask for it, it will delivered exactly as it was the first time I asked for it.

Love Claudia here. She always takes such great care of us when we visit. We actually switched from the Mall to this location when we found out she was here. I had to give a 4 star, because I am so burned out on Mexican food. It is good here, but it seems as if Mexican is the only place anyone wants to go anymore, and I'm done with it and pizza. Claudia got the 4 for El Nopal. I really enjoy the fish here.

My favorite El Nopal in Louisivlle. Two bartenders, Jose and Claudia are as good as they get. Always friendly and on top of their jobs. Food is normally very good. Love going during lunch hour as the prices can be as low as $6, depending on what you buy. Very decent prices for 32 oz beers.
