Nice little place across from fire station. Service is quick and staff is courteous. Restaurant has been there a long time. Almost like stepping back in time. Lots of choices from burgers to hot dogs, etc.. Food is prepared to order. Burgers are really good. Onions Rings are delicious. Sweet tea was delicious and refreshing. Prices are very reasonable. Good job folk's!

Mack's is like stepping back in time to a place where everything just seems a little better. And we went absolutely overboard, but we had to try a few things too. The burger was great. I can see why it was voted best in Columbia. The sausage dog was perfect. I literally can't think of anything that could have been better on it. The onion rings were great as well. The truly incredible thing is that all that was still under $15, everything was cooked to order and ready in no time, and the staff was friendly despite the lunch rush (the line was out the door).

Great Chili Cheeseburger ( put right up there w Rush’s ) and if you missing Sandy’s Slaw Dogs - Mack’s are even better. Fries could be crispier . Get there early as there will be a line. Very nice service from there crew . Will be back !

Awesome burger spot. A local dive with homemade pimento cheese and chicken salad. When you enter, go all the way to the end to place your order. Luckily the locals guided us! Super friendly people. Good eating. Perfect lunch spot for good comfort food.

Been looking for the best hot dog in Columbia for 10 years. Finally found it thanks to a suggestion from a Richland County Police Officer. Old school feel. Hard working employees who are happy to be helping you order and check out. Everything else on the menu I saw served looked amazing as well. I will be back soon. Probably tomorrow. Mack's is amazing.

Their hamburger is how a burger should be - simple and fresh ingredients You can taste the quality of the meat. The price is unbeatable. And they are fast too! Where do I begin? Mack’s Cash grocery (AKA Mack’s restaurant) has the best burger in SC! I found out about Mack’s from a SC eats guide which said this place was voted for best burger in Columbia and it definitely lives up to that statement! Great tasting Patties, perfectly melted cheese, fresh ingredients, and the good old fashioned sesame seed bun to top it off! They don’t mess around when it comes to getting your order to you as fast as possible! When you walk in and go to the back to put your order in, more than likely you will be out of the place with all your food in 5 minutes. The prices are also some of the best for the quality of food I have ever seen. A double cheeseburger and a large drink will only put you back about 8-9 dollars! I really like their milkshakes as they are the old fashioned style, but recently every time I go the shake machine is down. The place is older so I can understand that older machines are harder to fix. All in all, Mack’s is The best burger in SC. Hands down. 9.5/10

I was treated to lunch today at Mack's: cheeseburger, fries, and unsweet tea. Very enjoyable. Appreciate they have bottles of malt vinegar on the tables for the fries. Even though the line to order stretched to the rear entrance it didn't take long as cook staff is obviously on the ball. Love it!

The staff is always friendly to everyone who comes into the restaurant. Their food is great and they have one of the best burgers in town. They serve the lunch menu all day even from the time they open. If you work nights and want a burger when you get off you can get one at Mack’s. The breakfast menu is delicious as well. Prices are great for tasty food especially compared to what you get against fast food chains for lunch and breakfast

I know this place looks rundown, but the ingredients are legitimately FRESHER than Chick-fil-A. Super tasty and fair portion sizes. Fair priced too. Do yourself a favor and go here for a meal rather than waiting 30min in line at fastfood drive through breathing brake dust.

Breakfast country ham biscuit was remarkably soft and moist regardless of the fact that they used the microwave to warm the biscuit before adding the filling. Prices are also very reasonable. The lady that fixes the biscuits seems to rush you if you don't order fast enough though.

Great spot. I never knew about Mack's until I drove by today at lunchtime when I was headed to a nearby business...figured I'd stop in for a quick lunch. Two chili dogs with pimento cheese, fries and sweet tea for less than $9. Both the staff and other customers were super kind and happy and the food was excellent. I'll be back next time I'm downtown!

This place has a "greasy spoon" vibe, and that's not a bad thing. Their burgers are as good as any of the local joints, but their prices are phenomenal. I had a pimento cheeseburger with fries and a large tea for less than $9, which puts their prices on par with the fast food joints, but with better quality food. They also have breakfast biscuits on the menu at very reasonable prices -- I'm going to have to give them a try. The restaurant itself is old and dilapidated, but not nasty. The service is a little bit different, as well, with a lady taking your order at one end of the line, another in the middle providing your drink and sides, and a final one taking your payment. It's a little slower than fast food, but a little faster than some local places with cafeteria-style service. All in all, I'd recommend it, if only for a change of pace.

This has got to be the cutest burger place in Columbia. The people who own this restaurant, you'll want to take them home with you they are so kind. The food is incredible for the price, and the atmosphere is a little hole in the wall southern food joint. Which honestly, my favorite kinds or places have this family run feel to it. Couldn't recommend this place more. I watched the owner of this place remove a very angry homless woman who came in yelling, she took her outside and sat down and listened to this woman for 15 min. These people have character and love and I will continue to support these guys who treat their customers like people too, no matter how different they are.

Mack's is a great place to go for a quick bite to eat. They are incredibly fast at giving you exactly the sandwich you want. Their milkshakes are great but take a little longer than the rest of the meal. My usual is a burger all the way, with onion rings, and a coke. Its never disappointing. The wood paneling inside mixed with the local prints and restaurant memorabilia make it a unique dining experience.

I love Mack's! It's been around for more than 50 years and the interior and exterior looks rough but trust when I say, you won't be disappointed if you want a delicious burger and onion rings. I've never had it but I've been told that the fried bologna sandwich is also a treat. There is a specific ordering process that is helpful to know. Go in the back door to get in line. Sometimes the line is out the door but don't let this deter you. The line moves quickly because most of the staff has worked at Mack's for decades. Once you get to the ice cream freezer, place your order for your sandwich only. Keep moving in line and arrive at the back of the soda machineand sometime we'l take your drink order and put it on your tray. They will also ask if you want onion rings or fries. YOU DO. Once you get to the register, it's likely all on the tray ready for pick up and payment. Find a table and enjoy. The entire offering process takes about 10 minutes at most.

We just recently discovered Mack's Restaurant, but all of us agree that it serves one of the best cheese burgers in Columbia for the money. They make a good chicken sandwich too, although it’s not quite as good as those at Drake’s Duck-In. In addition to these staples, they serve a varied menu including many breakfast offerings, hot dogs, salads, other sandwiches and fried chicken. Everything is made fresh to order and you can customize it as you see fit. I really like the double pimento cheese burger - better than Pawley’s Front Porch or Burger 77 at half the price. The food is usually ready by the time the cashier has rung you up. Our bill for 3, including fries and drinks has always been under $20.00. They do a brisk lunch time business, but we’ve never had to wait for long. The line forms in the back, so you may want to just go in the back door. It is one of those local joints that I’ve driven by a thousand times without ever realizing that it was there. One thing that really sets them apart is the friendly staff, who actually seem to care about making you happy. Although it is centrally located near downtown Columbia on Laurel St., there is plenty of free parking, even around lunch time. This a definite must-visit for anyone searching for an awesome burger. The only quirk’s are they are just open for Breakfast and Lunch (till about 3:30) and they only accept cash or checks - no credit cards. But don’t let that stop you as you can’t beat awesome!

I like that they steam the sesame buns for my cheeseburger. The country fried steak biscuit is good in the morning but I can't really make it there in the mornings anymore because I have to be at work so early and I'm not good with time. Nice place to get really good burgers like everyone else mentioned, there burgers are as big as your face.. Everyone wears a mask but it is pretty small inside so not too much room for distancing, and the tables aren't marked off, but you can call ahead your order.. But if you do come close to closing time they will lock the door while your still in there lol... Oh Annnnd if you have to use your phone.. Please don't be rude lol

Mack's is one of those, "diamonds in the rough". They're aesthetically questionable, yet they're very pleasing to the palate, reasonably priced, easy to get to, have great parking access (that's unheard-of for a downtown restaurant), and a hardworking friendly southern grandmother feel about the staff. They put their version of pimento cheese on a hamburger, and it turns a better-than-average hamburger into a culinary masterpiece. One of my favorite places to go for lunch.
