This place is such a gem. The best Jamaican food I've had in a restaurant in the United States (yes - even better than New York and the greater Miami area). If you're not lucky enough to have a Jamaican family, this is as good as it gets outside the island. They have so many great menu options. The proprietor is Jamaican so you know the spices will be just right. And there are plenty of Jamaican drinks to wash it down with. I ordered the jerk chicken and oxtails with a side of rice and peas and plantains. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Very decent portions, too. You won't leave hungry but you'll definitely want more. Come for the food, stay for the music and good vibes.

This place was delicious! I love everything we ordered. The shrimp curry, the brown chicken, and the cloud bread were all cooked perfectly and went well together. The collard greens and rice also added the perfect complement to the meal. My husband picked it up and he received outstanding customer service and such kindness. That is hard to come by these days. I highly recommend giving this place a try!!!

Yes! The food was amazing! Being a vegetarian, it can be hard to get a nice meal out that’s not a salad and this place met my need for a hot plate of deliciousness. The collards were the best I’ve had outside of my own. That cabbage and rice with a little spicy kick, just too good. I love me some plantains and Karubees hit the spot with them. It’s real home cooked food here. If you’ve been thinking about trying this place just go now. Your taste buds will thank you later.

This place is amazing all around, the friendliness, the cleanliness, and the food was top notch! I am absolutely blown away, this is the most authentic Jamaican 🇯🇲 cuisine I’ve had since visiting Jamaica in 2015. It is well worth every penny!! I can’t emphasize this enough, this is the best food you will find in Charleston. Skip the chain restaurants, spend your money on something worth it. Karubees is WORTH IT! 🔥🔥🔥 The cook learned how to cook everything from his Jamaican Grandmother! The food is freshly sourced! Nothing processed or packaged! They pick up their food fresh every week and you can tell! We ordered: Jerk Shrimp & Curry Goat with White Rice & Collard Greens. Curry Goat & Ox Tail with Beans & Rice & Collard Greens. They were almost out of white rice so the owner also gave me beans and rice on the side, she was the best at her job! We requested everything spicy 🌶 and they did not disappoint!!! 🔥

At Karubees , my boyfriend and I were greeted by the owners Wife , who was extremely nice and helpful. She allowed me to try the goat meat because I was unfamiliar with the dish. She catered to my taste and recommended us the best dishes! The food was amazing! Best restaurant in Charleston, WV! :)

Succulent, fall off the bone, Jamakin me crazy. Seriously though, I was a pescatarian before eating here. I’m glad I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try the curry and jerk chicken. This was my first time eating Jamaican and the man taking the order was so helpful and patient as I navigated through the decision process of what I wanted. The servings are big and the food is very tasty. I would definitely recommend stopping there.

Fantastic meal at Karubees. Customer service was exemplary by Carrie the person in charge in the front. He took care of us very well. Food was flavorful, spicy, and portioned adequately. Well worth the price in comparison to other Jamaican food nearby. Jerk chicken was spicy and delicious. Mac n cheese was the bomb. Ox tail was juicy, fatty, and seasoned perfectly. Rice and beans were some of the best I've had in a while. Fried plantains were the perfect balance to the spicy jerk. Carrie even gave us some curry chicken to try even though we did not order it (melted right in your mouth). Will be eating here again and again. Highly recommend.

The lady at the register was nice and welcoming as can be and the food was about the best Jamaican I’ve had out of 20 places across the country. Jerk was as good as it comes north of Jamaica. Collard greens couldn’t have been prepared better. Curry goat was spot on. Ox tails were very good not perfect but how much can you ask for in WV. Go get some.

Amazing! My family and I eat here quite often. Karubees never disappoints. The food is always impeccable. Each menu item is prepared with love and fresh. It’s authentic Jamaican cuisine. The staff is so kind and patient. Portions are generous. The restrooms are very clean. Support local businesses.

This was my first Jamaican food experience and I can't say enough good things about this place! If you've never tried it and want to ....go here! The food is delicious, the jerk has some heat to it (which I don't mind) but the flavors are amazing!! The owner and wife are wonderful, she told us some of their history, that he was taught by his grandmother and that they have spices imported from the islands! Awesome food, awesome experience..thank you! Will definitely be back!!!

Almost worth moving to Charleston just to go here! Another joke (because I genuinely like my mother-in-law) I'd even visit my mother-in-law just to go here. First, both the staff (owners??) and the other customers were delightful, we had great conversations. But go here for the food. It has that taste of Jamaica that my old friends used to cook. Walk in and enjoy the aroma. Then eat. You will not walk out hungry. I had a combo or some such plate with jerk chicken and oxtail. The rice and beans are my favorite. Oh, parking is across the street. It is not validated, but it is close and convenient.

Going here was quite the experience almost like being in Jamaica. Staff was limited. Certain things were missing, ( No Diet Coke ) Wasn't really sure what I was getting. Never had jerked chicken before, burnt my mouth LOL. But like I said it was an experience.

I ordered the jerk shrimp with beans and rice and cabbage as my sides. It was wonderful all around. Just the right amount of spice, friendly staff, tasted amazing. I am actually eating the leftovers now. Still great the next day. My favorite was the cabbage. I would literally eat a five gallon bucket of the stuff. It is a little expensive, but entirely worth it. I will be back next time I go to Charleston.

My wife and I found this place thanks to Google Maps and made a beeline for the door once we got checked into our place. Wish we had moved even faster!! They were understandably low on dishes as we had gotten there late in the day. I am shocked there was anything left. We had the Curry Goat, Jerk Shrimp, Curry Shrimp, Rice, Veggies and Plantains. Everything was flavor perfection. Service was enthusiastic, polite and welcoming. We bought home the leftover rice and Plantains to incorporate into a dish the next day. Do not miss this place if you are anywhere near it. Really incredible food and great people.

Really loved the jerk chicken. Super tender and the flavor was incredible. It’s pretty spicy so be prepared for that. The curry shrimp were awesome too and less spicy. Fried plaintains were killer. Next time I’m loading up on jerk chicken, some plantains, and I’d like to try the cabbage and the coco bread. This is the best culinary experience I’ve had since I moved to WV four months ago. Super friendly staff too!!!

The food was delicious! Our highlights were the jerk chicken, curried chicken and shrimp, rice and peas and plantains! Okay, so I've been waiting for this place to open it's doors for a couple of weeks. I work nearby and was super excited to have a new restaurant to visit. I was not disappointed. I had the Curry Chicken, with rice & beans and fried plantains. The chicken was so tender and just fell off the bone, and the curry seasoning was incredible. The rice & beans was the best I've ever had, not a single bite was bland. Finally the fried plantains were a great complement to the rest of the food with just the right amount of sweetness. To top it all off, it was a pretty healthy meal. Finally the price seems just right considering the generous serving you receive. If I could give them 10 stars I would!

Honestly, WOW. I know what you must be thinking - authentic Jamaican food smack in the middle of WV sounds unusual - but I guarantee you will not regret stopping in. This place has so many different delicious options for everyone! We got jerk chicken, steamed cabbage, plantains, the coco bread (SO soft and fluffy), and a beef patty. Everything was spot on; I haven’t had a beef patty that good since I was in Jamaica. The staff are super nice and the place is very clean as well. Very conveniently located downtown. Will absolutely stop in again next time I’m in the area!

This is my very very VERY favorite Jamaican food. Karubees has it all. They are temporarily closed for now, but I cannot wait for them to reopen at their new location. Their Jerk Chicken and Shrimp is to die for. But WARNING: IT IS HOTTTTTT!!! But soooooooooo GOOD! I miss it terribly. The Curry Chicken is yummy as well. I also love the rice and beans and mac n cheese. They are sweet! Actually all sides are wonderful! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Our food was hot and fresh. The coco bread was fresh out of the oven and the oxtails were falling off the bone tender. The curry chicken was very good and the beef patties were authentic. The owner, Kerry was extremely friendly and helpful to for us out-of-towners working temporarily in the area. If I had to give one complaint, it would be the rice was sweet. We will return soon!!!

Definitely the best Jamaican food I’ve had in my entire life! Never would have thought I’d find such an amazing Jamaican meal in West Virginia but I surely did. I had the large curry chicken platter with rice and peas and plantains which was all eye opening and shockingly delicious. It’s definitely one of best food experiences of my extensive domestic travels. I also had a side of coco bread which was soft and addictive, especially once you dip it in some sauce. If you are ever remotely near this place or even a hour away, take the drive and go! It’s 100% worth it for an incredibly flavorful and authentic Jamaican meal!

Sooooo good! Homemade, authentic perfection! The jerk will light you up with spice and heat but you won't be able to stop eating it! Have the plantains, rice and peas, and a Ting and enjoy! Seating is somewhat limited (although I've always had a table, no problem) and they are happy to do takeout. As if the food wasn't enough, they are also the loveliest people.

A solid operation with very friendly folks. The chef was born in and leaned how to cook in Jamaica which added authenticity and a sense of adventure to the food. The food was interesting and tasty. I am a picky eater yet I enthusiastically cleaned my plate. As I lost myself in the delicious rice and beans, every bite of the spicy chicken slapped me back into focus. The meal was a welcomed experience which delivered me from the mundane and typical. Very well done.

After spending our Honeymoon in Grand Ochos Rios, we fell in love with many Jamaican flavors. The food here is very authentic and delicious. I have spent 16 years cooking Jamaican food myself ever since that trip. We are big fans of the cabbage, rice and peas, and fried plantains. The jerk seasonin is perfect as well. I have not had anything bad here. I am so glad they have been able to make it through the pandemic so far. We have lost lots of small restaurants already. Let's help keep Karubees around for a long time.

The best Jamaican food near Charleston. One of the few restaurants in the area which can do spicy. Neighborhood takeout vibe. A little pricey. Good sized portions. No ambience so grab your food to go. Also they prep limited quantities. If you arrive closer to closing time you might not get your first choice. Overall a great addition to the Charleston WV scene.

Nice staff. I wasnt able to get through on phone but they were busy. I received my food in good time. The plaintain was soft but not very sweet. The collard green were still ceutxhy and not as soft as i would have wanted. The flavors are there but it needed salt. The jerk chicken also needed some salt but was made well. The jerk sauce was alot sweeter than I expected. You can door dash also which is convenient.

Waited at door for older gentleman to finish with person ahead of me only to have him tell me to hold on when it was my turn so he could walk away to talk loudly back and forth with to another employee about something I didn't need or want to concern myself with. Not able to get jerk chicken as they were out. Overall disappointing ☹️

Hands down the BEST Jamaican food I have ever had! Every single bite of food I had tonight was utterly amazing. We ended up all eating off of each other's plates because we just kept saying "oh, you gotta try this too." We had jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, curry chicken, collards, mac and cheese, rice and beans, and plantains. Literally it was all just SO GOOD. I seriously cannot praise the food enough. And the lovely woman (who I am so sorry I missed getting your name) who served us and is the wife of the cook made us feel SO WELCOME. Like, y'all, we could have easily been sitting around their kitchen table. She was kind and friendly and I wish we'd come here sooner so I could come back again and again. Sadly, I'm not local, but if I am ever in the area again, you better believe I am coming back!

Visiting Charleston for the weekend and wanted something fun for lunch- Karubees menu is amazing and we wanted to try everything. Best lunch I have had in a very long time, and after we finished there was enough food for three days of lunch left. Chicken and goat curry, jerk chicken, oxtails, Mac and cheese, collard greens, rice and peas, fried plantains..... Everything was AMAZING and has its own flavor. Bina was an amazing host and took great care of us, definitely will return when I'm back in Charleston.
