Reviews of Chow Thai
Elijah Roberts
Truly excellent curries! The restaurant closes much earlier than one might expect, and the dining room felt clean but was not a good experience to eat in. The five stars was for feeding me my best meal in months. Moreover, they served very generous portions. Very vegetarian-friendly and you are asked to choose your ideal level of spiciness, so it can suite you if are super desensitized or if you can sense the presence of hot sauce from across the room. I asked for “very little spiciness” and another ordered “very spicy” and said that it was not as spicy as what is served in Thailand but enjoyed it.

The food and service are excellent. If I could give 10 stars, I would. When they ask how spicy you want your food just say no spicy. I ordered 2 which is mild and it's crazy spicy. 2 people with Thai tea, fried rice, $6 dessert, and Phad See Yew cost $30 and they serve big portion too. Their most well known dessert is Mango sticky rice with coconut milk. You should try that. They have menus on Facebook and also their own website.

Seriously it just keeps getting better... Everytime we visit the food, service and atmosphere is exceptional. As a vegetarian this flavourful menu is completely inclusive of vegetarian tastes. The quality and quantity of the dishes are deliciously generous! My friends from NYC ate here and raved it was the best Thai food they've ever eaten.... They saved the contact information for anytime in the area to visit again.

I ordered the pad see yew with chicken and the Thai fried rice with beef and it was amazing. It was so good the customer service there’s always great it’s definitely a must try if you haven’t.
P. S. It’s even good cold.
Brittany Lynch
Really enjoyed the pad Thai and the Thai iced tea. The woman who took our order was super friendly and accommodating.
Hannah Martin
Extremely delicious! Eggplant melts right in your mouth. Huge portions, too.

Chow Thai is one of the best restaurants in Charleston, WV. The food is outstanding and the customer service is wonderful. Highly recommend giving them a try whether you have time to sit down or you are on a time crunch and takeout. Also, Charleston 2 Go provides delivery service for them so if you can't make it to their downtown location you can have Chow Thai delivered right to your door at home. We try to eat there at least once a week because it is just that good. You won't be disappointed.

One of my favorite places to eat. Wonderful and unique food. My personal favorites are the stir fried eggplant with basil, the noodle bowl(lime base broth) and the coconut soup(Tam Kha gai).

Lady on register was a lot of help. I just love their food if you are in the are it's a must everything is so delicious!
Staff is friendly!
This is what we call a little hole on the wall back in cali!
Coming from me that I have tried many thai food places this one has my hearth!
Christina W
Chow Thai has enough vegan options that I’d have to go back a few times to try them all! The pad Thai was to DIE for!! It was different from most I’ve had in the past- the sauce was tart with some sweet notes, and the fresh sprouts added a healthy crunch. The coconut Massaman curry was above average. Just make sure to order with no egg/ fish sauce for y’all vegans.
Chris Claridge
Hands down the best Thai I’ve ever had. I was pretty unsure of the food scene in Charleston but this is a true hidden gem. Eat here, you won’t regret it.
Cameron Asbury
This place is difficult to find, but once you make it there, you're in for a real treat! The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and they're happy to help you make a decision if you're like me and not very familiar with Thai food.
I really liked the atmosphere they created with the decor and the music they were playing fit great with the vibe of the restaurant. They have exposed ceilings, which work well to give it a bit of a hipster vibe, but it works.
At their recommendation, I got mild massaman curry with chicken and fried rice. It was delicious - very flavorful and filling. I felt like it didn't have enough spice, so I asked if I could add some more heat to it and they were more than happy to bring me a small cup with the stuff they use to add spice.
This was my first time trying Thai food, but it definitely won't be my last!

I just recently moved to the area and am so glad that a great Thai restaurant has opened up. The spring rolls are the best that I have ever had and they are handmade along with the sauce. The prices are very fair and I love that they have brought authentic Thai food to the Charleston, WV area. There is limited seating but specialize in to-go orders and use all environmentally friendly items from the takeout boxes, forks, bags and even straws. They have been really busy so just be patient and check out their Facebook page for updated information about hours and offerings for the day. I look forward to lots of Thai food in my future.
Shayla Layne
Always has the best food. Highly recommended, my favorite Thai restaurant in Charleston
Christa B.
Utterly delicious Thai food in a kitschy environment that reminds me of my grandma's house in the best way. Reasonably priced, clean restaurant with friendly staff and tasty food. We will make it a point to visit this hidden gem whenever we are in town. Don't miss it!
Noah Barker
My wife and I stopped in because it was next to our hotel and we love Thai food,we were not disappointed! The vegetable spring rolls were flaky and full, and the Massaman was perfect. I will return anytime I get a chance.

I travel often, and used to make it a point to try a thai place everywhere i went. I found this spot and have no need to do this anymore. The BEST thai food ive found is here, bar none. Its a hr drive for me one way and i come quite often if that says anything. So great! owned by very friendly people who love what they do, and it shows.
Adam Patnoe
This is my favorite restaurant in Charleston. We've been patrons ever since they opened, and the food keeps getting better. The staff are fantastic and friendly. Dining in and takeout are always terrific!
Gabe Cohen
Had a appetizer and a noodle dish. Both were pretty good, the pad see ew especially. Very nice staff! Keep in mind this place is very small, 4 tables total, so plan accordingly. They do take out as well. The restaurant is oddly located but its worth finding.
Michele Blazin
My first favorite restaurant ever. All of their curries are amazing, pad thai great, fried rice superb, I could go on. People who try to criticize anything they make are just malding that they've never had Thai food simultaneously so different yet delicious.
Michael Ramsey
This is a great spot for your Thai food. Been there four times and I’m hooked. Hot curry as hot as you want. I’ve had the #4 hot twice and loved it. Just try it. Thanks Jay for hooking me up. Thanks Chow Thai.
Ciara Brown
My absolute favorite place to eat in Charleston ! Everything is always sooooo fresh and perfect amount of seasoning. The owner and workers are very friendly and always go the extra mile.
Justin Budikentjana
Not the best Thai food I've had but definitely the best you can get in West Virginia. Very small dinning area and the main lady is very overworked between handling orders and serving food
Daniel Woldorff
Very very tasty. Nice staff. Fast service. Hopping joint on a Tuesday evening.
My favorite was the su ko thai, which was sour, salty and spicy, with a touch of sweet. The employee described it as a type of tom yum.
B Breutinger
This place is a little hard to find as the store front does not face the main Street. The decor could use updating as it looks very run down. But the food was good and the service quick. Generous portion sizes.
haitham siag
This was the first time trying this restaurant and even type of cuisine!
I had massaman curry Thai hot spiciness, and it was lovely, I wish some of the veggies were a little more cooked but this might be how the curry is made! I loved the flavor decent amount of meat, the portion was big enough I had to take some home!!! I also had mango sweet sticky rice !!! Really enjoyed it, and enjoyed their take on Thai boba tea!
Highly recommend.
Gabriel Massie
1st time trying literally the best Thai we have had in West Virginia.....Eggplant!! Spring Rolls!!
Steven Boston
I eat here regularly and cannot recommend Chow Thai highly enough! The food is always amazing!
EmmaLee Griffith
Only 8 tables, be prepared to end up with takeout or wait. Food is AMAZING. Everything is great, lots of options for heat preference.
Josh Zirkle
First time eating here, and lemme tell ya...Sooooooooo good! I found my new regular place to eat.
Harry Koval
This is my favorite restaurant in Charleston. I get food here pretty much every week and it's always amazing. You gotta try it if you like Thai food. The staff are also great people :)
Ania Swanson
Yummy food. We ate inside and it was a little chilly, but made up for it with the heat from hunt food. 🤗 …
David Haydon
Found this heading home from Florida. It will be a must stop place going forward. Easy off and Easy on I-77. Best Thia I have had, and I drive 30 minutes to a local Thia that I thought was the best. Simple plan dining area, but clean. Again Food was Great!
Frank W
Excellent food and great prices. Very good vegetarian options as well.
leeaf7
Aroi Aroi! What a pleasant surprise. I never expected to see an authentic thai restaurant in Charleston WV. Their curry was excellent. I can see that they modified it a little with stuff that goes into curry but mostly they followed the traditional thai way of curry and it really showed. Just right amount of coconut kha flavor for me. I did not try other menu items yet but it seems like the owner and the kitchen know what they are doing. I even saw them advertising kao niew ma muang (stick rice with mango) as a dessert so they must be staying authentic for the most part. Enjoy!
Ray A
It's nice and clean. Food is delicious. Some order may take some time because they cook it fresh.
mommybeth70
We have a new favorite in Charleston!!! and for the more sensitive they offer varying heats. Thank you guys. The soups and curries are amazing. The staff is so friendly. If you haven't tried them and been hiding under a rock like us, run.
J. Newman
This place is fantastic. Can be hard to find because it's in the alley. The Thai hot is no joke. It's hot.
Food is prepared with plenty of bean sprouts and the noodles are perfect.
Sandy Vu
I love their suko thai, a noodle bowl in lime broth with extra bean sprout and peanuts. It always hit my soul in cold weather.
Jeff Lebowski
Food was great, the green curry is very very good. The staff are very friendly to
Seth Samples
Best Thai food in Charleston. Mind the spice levels they will have you sweating if you get too brave! Never had a bad experience here. If you are planning to order call I advance as they are quite popular 😉
Jim Prince
Traveling through Charleston and decided to eat here based on the excellent reviews. My wife is from Thailand and always wanting to try different Thai restaurants. Hands down the best Thai noodle boat we've ever had. Ordered more to take home.. We live 3 hrs away and my wife has already planned our trip back...just to eat here.
CHRIS Furby
Best place to eat in Charleston (maybe the world), food is delicious and the people are super friendly! Thai Fried Rice is the reigning champ for me 😁 …
Rachel Ashworth
Chow Thai is amazing! Even if you’ve never tried Thai food, you’re sure to find something on the menu that will soon become a weekly addiction. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are incredible. My go to comfort food. The spring rolls are perfectly cooked and flavorful. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!
Taylor Crammer
The food was amazing and a great value, would recommend this to anyone looking for some authentic Thai food in the WV area
Katherine Grindle
Great Food! Large portions. Heat level varies from day to day so I always order their most mild option (I do like spicy foods, but they can get too hot sometimes). I love their eco friendly takeout containers.
Pam Chase
Wow! Amazing! Fabulous! Delicious! Yum! It hits all the notes for taste. Spice, depth of flavor, rich, and every bite makes you just want more. The Noodle Bowl is fantastic! The Spring Rolls are the best I have ever had. The restaurant is tiny, however, the heart of the place is huge. I would recommend this as a great date night adventure, for foodies, for families, for take out or for just when you don't want to cook and want a great meal! I have eaten in and done take out. The portions are lovely both ways. I have made a couple meals out of 1 portion as they are quite generous. The staff are super courteous and accommodating as to amount of heat to add to the dishes. Whether you don't do spice at all or want it super spicy, they have a whole range of choices. I also recommend this to all my friends on a gluten-restricted diet. Most of the menu selections are Gluten-free. The dishes are primarily made with rice noodles. It is a total joy to be able to eat nearly everything on a menu.
Matthew Cooper
First time eating Thai food and this place is banging, definitely recommend

My wife and I were visiting out of town, staying downtown and looking for someplace different to eat. Found Chow Thai on Google maps. The reviews said it was small with good food and friendly staff so we decided to give it a try even though we had never eaten Thai before. First, the food was delicious. This was our first meal with Thai food but it will not be our last! Second, the staff was very friendly. They helped us pick a safe choice for our first experience with Thai food. The medium spice was perfect for me. Just enough to be slightly uncomfortable but not enough to overpower the taste of the food. My wife had mild spice and she said that was good as there was enough spice to be noticed but not enough to be uncomfortable. Third, the place was small but certainly not uncomfortably or claustrophobically small. It was very clean. My only complaint would be that the place was difficult to find. It is in the back of the building and cannot be seen or directly accessed from the street listed as its address. One has to turn into the parking lot beside the building then drive around back. A sign on the street would probably increase business substantially. Overall, it was a very positive experience and my wife and I are looking forward to trying new Thai menu items!
BukuBukuCha
I cant rate Thai food as I've never had it else where. But I can say the pad mama (all spicy levels) taste amazing.
Wish yall would open on guard weekends.
Zachariah Spurrier
10/10 Best Thai in Charleston and surrounding area. Been a local customer for 3 years now. Really nice service. If you're doing take out, order ahead! No wonder they're busy - everyone in Kanawha County loves them.
Paul Hughes
So delicious... an employee of mine recommended this place. Considering she was born and raised in Thailand, I trusted her recommendation and so glad I did. Ordered the chicken Pad Thai and the veg spring rolls... so good! Ordered online and when I arrived they brought it out to my car. Can't wait to go back!
Only order it spicy if you like it hot... when they say spicy... they mean it!
Loretta Yingling
Literally found this gem while traveling down 77…it was right off the exit and absolutely amazing! Super fresh, quality Thai food with vegetarian and gluten free options. Perfect for our family! Can’t wait till our next road trip to come back!
Joshua Dunn
It's a tiny dining area, but the food is awesome. They will spice it up if you can handle it, and they will keep it nice and mild if you can't. I've never had a bad experience here. The spring rolls and rice are great for kids, and the sweet iced coffee is great for me! Call ahead and your order will be ready for you when you get there.
Brian Morgan
Not your typical Thai restaurant. Absolutely delicious.
Dave Chaffins
It's the best Thai food in the state. The season and spice in every bite is perfect for all levels of comfort. I'm a big spicy fan so I go for the Thai hot. It hits a perfect amount every time. You can really taste the fresh ingredients to!
Susan Baldwin
Delicious food! We ate in the restaurant, and this part left a lot to be desired. The building was an older building, and not much had been don't to the bare bones concrete and block interior other than to clean and set up tables. It's pretty obviously a take out place. But the food was excellent which is the main attraction.
V L
Small menu but what else do you need? I’ve not ventured much from the Massaman Curry because it’s so good. I’ve been to so many Thai restaurants in NYC but Chow Thai is one of my favorites and always try to go when I’m in town.
Amer
Wow this was tasty. I came here expecting it to be on a similar level as Chaang Thai in Morgantown but this blows it out of the water. I got the Pad See Yew. The noodles are perfect, the beef is very well cooked, and the sauce was very savory. This restaurant is genuinely the best Thai i’ve had in a while, compared to Thai restaurants in LA, Pitt, DC. Please visit this place and don’t let it go out of business like every other good restaurant we get in Charleston.
Jeremy Carte (KJ_Wicked)
This place is a little tricky to find, but it's worth the effort. Small dining room with about 10 tables. Friendly and helpful staff. The food is fantastic. The wife gets Pan Kee Mao with chicken, I get Massaman Curry Chicken with fried rice. Both are very good. Food is always very fresh and hot. Anything above "Little spice" is quite spicy, but I go up to "medium spice" because I like a kick to my food. Price is very reasonable for the quality and service. We eat here a couple times per month.
Jonathan Brier (wolfgang8741)
Best Thai Food in Charleston, it doesn't face the street it is located, but faces the alley opposite it's address and a better way to arrive. I ordered shrimp spring rolls (crispy outside - they don't have the soft sided ones), mango sticky rice dessert, and So Ko Thai with an egg and rice noodles. I'll definitely be back again for takeout and want to try a dine in experience after COVID-19 ends since they only offer takeout for now, but have friendly staff.
Charles Patten
Just passing through town and found this unexpected gem. I had the Pad Thai medium spicy and it was yummy. The medium spicy took me for a ride so would probably dial it down next time, but it was the best Pad Thai I've ever had. I will look forward to stopping here everytime I come through.
Lee & Nikki Murphy
Top 5 Shrimp Spring rolls! We tried 5 dishes. They were all very flavorful. Very friendly staff. The place is small only 4 tables, but well worth trying. We will definitely be back.
W D
We stopped here during a drive from Texas to DC. The fish cakes were terrific, comparable to ones I’ve had in Thailand, as was the Pad Thai and the Pad Sew Yee. Very fresh and full of flavor—it was a great surprise to find. Strongly recommend!
Also, it’s located in the back of the building!
Allison H
Best (and cheapest) dinner while visiting. Chicken Pad See Yew medium spice, mango sticky rice, egg rolls. Medium spice was lit my mouth on fire in a good way. (Thai spice is hotter than American spice.) Ordered takeout, done on time and every was there. Walked it back to hotel and it was still piping hot. Tried to do fine dining in Charleston... spend hundreds on dinner, and was severely disappointing. Takeout Thai food hit the spot and this place does it well.
Paul
Stopped here passing through on a road trip and have to say we all really enjoyed our meals. The sitting area and menu are small and simple but we like that about this place. The veggie spring rolls were also delicious. Will def return if I'm ever in the area. Highly recommend if you like thai cuisine.
Brenda Williams
We are so fortunate to have this authentic Thai restaurant in our little city. We have dined here many times and are never disappointed. The spring rolls are delicious with a a flavorful dipping sauce. We have tried almost every item on the menu with our favorite being Pad Thai. Lucky for us they can add tofu to any of the dishes and the fried tofu in this one is super good. Everything is full of flavor. The prices are reasonable, especially for the amount of food you are served. The owner, her husband and staff are super friendly and are always making sure we are happy with our meal. All dishes are cooked fresh and they are eco friendly with packaging take outs.
Brian Thompson
I love this restaurant. The staff is so friendly and the food is fantastic. My favorite dish is the Pad Kee Mow with chicken (and recently beef as well). They use really good ingredients, which is something that is important to me. I’ve eaten here dozens of times and never had any fatty meat and the veggies seem very fresh as well.
I am prone to heart burn, so I always get mild and it still has plenty of kick. I’ve eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants, and this is by far my favorite.
Be warned though, the building is very small and they have “maybe” 10 tables and are often packed by noon.
Matt Bucklen
Great place to eat and very tasty and delicious. Plates came out very clean and food was displayed excellent. Inviting and comforting atmosphere. WARNING:the spice levels are hot, i like decently spicy food but medium was a little hot so try no spice if you cant handle spicy foods.
shawn scott
Just happened to be in Charleston for the afternoon with a friend and after perusing the capital market pulled out our phones and landed on this establishment. Fabulous food and prompt service. Had Pad Thai for the first time here and they already set a high bar.
Highly suggest you check this place out. Menu is reasonably priced $5-$11 and the options are simple and well explained for newbies to the cuisine.
David Ward
Excellent food & service. It is a new “must go” place for us when in Charleston.
Nan Brooks
Great authentic Thai food. Thai spicy really is spicy (we like that) but they have no spice, mild, medium, hot for other people. The spring rolls were crispy and nicely cooked. All food was fabulous. Service also great
Richard Hubbard
I can’t compare to other Thai places because this is the only Thai I’ve had, however the staff is extremely kind and knowledgeable with reasonable prices. The menu isn’t big but that is to their favor, it allows for all dishes to be prepared with the same precision. The only issue I have is the 7 tables so at lunch time seating can become an issue. If you only have an hour for lunch, be there right at 11, if you have a longer time and can enjoy yourself, this is absolutely the place to do it.
Sherri Graley
I can't stress enough just how amazing this place is. Fresh ingredients, amazing flavor and fabulous customer service. My only complaint is that they aren't open Sunday and Monday. I wanted pad thai so bad one day for lunch on a Monday and ended up trying Taste of Asia. Wow, worst mistake ever. Never will I do that again! Chow Thai will forever have my business, even if it means I can't have it on Sunday or Monday.
A Edwards
I don't think great Thai in West Virginia but this was one of the best Thai food that I have had in a long time. I had the curry steak and it was the right amount of species and coconut milk. The atmosphere is laid back. The restaurant is small so come early to beat the lunch time rush.
Cole Batty
My new favorite restaurant in Charleston, and one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to. Good vibes dining in with perfect service, ambience, and food.
Lance Wheeler
Amazing restaurant serving authentic, reasonable priced thai food that you can't get anywhere else in the Charleston area. The service was fast and the cashier was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. And with it being serviced by Charleston2Go, you can bet we'll be ordering from here a lot.
Austin Brown
Excellent food and service. Good variety of food and drinks (they have a number of sugar free options) pricing is on par with similar cuisine and large amounts of food.
A K
Let’s start with how kind and polite the employees/owners are of this restaurant! Not to mention the food, which is much better than other restaurants. I eat there at least three times a week, and I have never been the slightest bit disappointed. It is independently owned, which allows much better service and quality! I highly recommend Chow Thai!!!! :)
Robert Hutchens
The proverbial “hole-in-the-Wall,” (small, but spotless) but really excellent Thai food with some seldom seen offerings. The restaurant only has four tables, but they stayed full, while take-out customers waited. Wonderful service from the Thai staff.
Joan Parker
This is our go-to Thai restaurant with a variety of options, especially for vegetarians. Level of spiciness is inconsistent from one visit to the next. Also there should not be any extra charge ($1) to substitute noodles for rice. And I was charged an additional fee ($2) for additional veggies. The person taking our order didn't advise about either additional cost. Otherwise enjoyable.
Vincent Nguyen
You can modify your pad thai by adding stuff like broccoli and bell peppers to it. Highly recommend this for an extra crunch to your pad thai!
Maik B
I often do my Vacation in Thailand, so I know there food very well.
Very good food, original and authentic.
Very friendly stuff.
The comfort was rustic and not so comfortable.
Conclusion: Recommendation for an visit.
Brady Campbell
We love this spot. A hidden gem in downtown charleston where you can get great food while challenging yourself on the spicy scale if you dare. Keep in mind that the restaurant is quite small, so tey to get there a few minutes early if you're going for lunch or dinner on the weekends. I definitely recommend this for out of towners or those whole like non-American foods.
Lindsey Somos
Great hole in the wall spot for Thai food. They were really nice, my only caveat would be that I don't recommend it if you have actual celiac disease or gluten sensitivity/allergy -- they where helpful about which parts of the menu were GF but I definitely still had a reaction so there was probably some cross contamination.
Gary Blackhurst
Very busy for lunch crowd. Great Thai dishes and good value for what you get served up. Been there twice and will go again soon. Hope the owner plans to expand. The business looks like it's doing very well.
Ella Shaye
Chow Thai is one of the best restaurants in Charleston. I’ve never been disappointed by any of their dishes. I am addicted to the su ko thai soup. I’m super white girl so if you’re like me, you better get “little spicy” or you’re gonna need a medic.
Aileen Curfman
This place is minimalist when it comes to decor, and the menu is limited, but what they do, they do just right. I asked for massaman curry with little spice. I got a generous portion of veggies in a subtly flavored coconut milk broth, with plenty of rice served on the side. My friend ordered pad kee mao with moderate spice; the server told her she thought light spice would be better, and after tasting the dish, my friend agreed. We enjoyed every bite. We were in town for an event. I'll stop by again on my next trip to Charleston.
Kaylee O
Wonderful food, wonderful service, and a fresh breath of air to Charleston! It is a small space with limited seating but my family had no problem sitting down for a meal! Loved it and will be back soon!
edgar lopez
Favorite restaurant in Charleston. Delicious food and great portions. Good choice if you like spicy food because you can select between 4 spiciness levels. Try the pad si yew
pickledtoenails
Super flavorful food, I personally would order a level down on how much spice you want- they do not mess around with the spice, but if you like it hot, you'll definitely like this place.
Chris Jansen
The food here is amazing they got the flavors just right. It is one if the best Thai restaurants I've tried outside of Thailand. They also have great vegan and vegetarian options.
Aleesa Schlup
I'm still thinking about the food I had here days later. I'm so glad we decided to stop. I had yellow curry with rice noodles (I forget the name) and my husband had the Sukho Thai. We both fell in love with this quaint restaurant. I really wish we lived closer. We'd probably be regulars at Chow Thai!
Nicholas Quinn
Incredibly polite and helpful staff with THE best Thai food around. One of my favorite places to eat locally. Huge fan of the Papaya Pad Thai and fried spring rolls.
Scott Stapleton
The food was fantastic! The prices were very reasonable. I have had Asian food in Chinatown new york, chinatown san Francisco, and Europe. Chow thai was just as good. the Atmosphere is simple but i go to RESTAURANTs for great food, not snobby atmosphere.
Mary Selvaraj
We had the chicken pad thai, spring rolls and the eggplant with chicken and egg. Everything was fresh and awesome. This restaurant sits off the beaten path, but i highly recommend it!!!
Dale Cooper
Everything is delicious that I've tried. The larb has this addictive slightly sour quality that's so good. The Khoa Soi is simply divine; slightly sweet with lemon grass flavor sauce. Very light but a little creamy.
This is one of the few places that will REALLY give you spicy if you want spicy. The "Level Four" heat is probably too much for most people, but it's legitimate hot. I love it.
ManiH H
Hard to find but well worth the search. Went for lunch. The food was good with reasonably sized portions. Prices were reasonable too. Only surprising thing was that they charged for any extra white rice in addition to what is given as part of the meal.
Will Thompson
This place nailed it. The pad Thai was very tasty (I’ll be trying hot instead of medium) and it was steaming when it came out. Darn near burnt my tongue! Loved the food and the service. Will return.
Jelique Jerry
Very good Thai food. I always get the Thai Fried Rice with chicken and the Massaman Curry. Delicious
John Butterworth
Just great food. What a great addition to our food scene. They were slammed and still were kind and very hospitable. Service was quick and the food was perfect. The spring rolls are the best.
Wanlada B
They have best thai iced tea in the area!
My go to are boat noodles and fried rice but everything i have here is delicious
Gary Goodman
I asked for Red Curry w coconut milk. They offered Pha Naeng as close substitute. Very tasty, chicken, veg, red bell peppers. Thai rice also good. What Pam Chase said below about flavors.
Small-ish portion imo, but delicious and sufficient. Ginger tea good. Nice cashier/server.
Only about 4 tables in small room, so not fine dining. Order at counter, then find a seat. They will bring food & drinks. More carry-out and good quick chow Thai.
Located just east/behind Quality Inn and Capitol Inn tall hotels.
Rachel Ashworth
I love Chow Thai. It’s really authentic and you can tell they love making their food. I recommend anyone wanting to try a new cuisine to get the Chicken Pad Thai!
Paul Thompson
Great food, everything was delicious. Very pleasant counter service, small menu for a small restaurant, not a full Thai offering but still satisfies your need for authentic Thai.
Jesse Meier
Food was terrific, if I lived in Charleston and not just passing through, I'd certainly come by on a weekly basis.
Jorge9156
While in between doctor appointments at the Mayo Clinic, we stopped in at Chow Thai. We had the best Thai meals ever. The Mango salad is phenomenal and a work of art
Richard Clark
Pickup ready when I arrived. Cashier friendly and food was hot and tasted great. Some of the best Pad Thai I ever had.
Nathan Anderson
Getting to-go from there this week was a life changing event. The best BEST thai food we have ever had. I look forward to eating there weekly! Keep up the great work!
David Hammond
This tiny little place on Shrewsbury Street is a jewel. The food is authentic and delicious. Very casual atmosphere, with limited seating available.

One of the few Thai place in Charleston. Menu is simple but most of the dishes are tasty. Recommend the Thai tea and Panang curry
Elizabeth Baldwin
Delicious! John was great at helping newbies to Thai figure out what we wanted. The fact that the rice noodles are gluten free is a plus!
Upendra Prasad
They can make these properly spicy if you ask for it. Highly recommend!
Audra Walker
Delicious as always! Love the new hot bar and also had a super fresh poke bowl, simply scrumptious!
Tre Brooks
2.5 Food is great.. but hours are terrible. Always closed for some reason or another. most frustrating thing ever.. Holiday break till the 5th?!?!?!? must be a government restaurant with that schedule
Corey Zinn
Chow Thai has become a Charleston staple. I can't avoid it, sometimes multiple times a day. Love the Khao Soi and Pha Naeng curries especially. Get the real deal and order it "Thai hot"
Humuhumunukunukuapa 'a
Their schedule is awful and the location is easy to find but the food is perfect
Westley Smolder
The food here is amazing. Huge portions. The Pad See Yew was my go to but I tried the Pad Horapa last time and it is somehow better.
Michelle Chen-Kieger
This place is more like a takeout restaurant with limited dish choices. The menu is only one page. Food is ok, the chicken massaman curry only has few pieces of potatoes and onion for vegetables. The staff is friendly.
Ted Endriss
Best massaman curry I've ever had. Period! Delicious small little gem, a must find and enjoy though!
John Saloiye

Taidan Johnson
Neat hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurant. Food is fresh—and even better because you can tell them exactly how spicy you want it. Great service and staff too.
Matt Schwartz
Excellent Thai even if the menu seems a little short. If you order spicy, expect it to be that way! Very flavorful!
Cathy Wallace
Get the noodle bowl!! That's all you need to know

The food was very good, but I had to wait 45 min for it to arrive. Servers should've given me a free voucher since I had to wait that long, but that wasn't offered.
