Reviews of pizzeria ida
Esteban Rubens
Mind-blowing pizza. Trust me, you need to get to Pizzeria Ida as soon as you can. The crust was pure perfection, both the ingredients, the bake, the flavor, the texture, just amazing. A testament to how it's possible to elevate good ingredients to incredible heights with skill and dedication.
Yuriy Sountsov
Good variety of pies in ingredients, flavor, and presentation. Towards the end of the day they stopped serving non-pizza menu items.
Noah Gootkind
Ive wanted to get here for a while, and finally today it happened. pizzeria Ida has an awesome open concept where you can see the food being prepared. The care that goes into each pie is clear. I got the classico round pie. This thing was HUGE and The flavor was great, not overly cheesy or saucy, but what really stood out was the crust- crunchy on the outside- fluffy on the inside. The vibe inside is also super cool, with tables for larger parties or stools along the bar. Going to IDA is always a treat, be it for the sandwiches, or pizza! Their passion for their food and quality of ingredients is unmatched!

Wow! This place is unlike any other. The best pizza we’ve ever had hands down. I’ve had more pizza in my life than I probably should have, this place takes the number 1 spot. My wife, daughter and I decided to come here while visiting Burlington on our journey to all 50 states. We were initially presented with a packed house, loud but fun crowd, and a menu that was nearly sold out. We were left with only two options on the menu and either choice was going to be the most expensive pizza I’ve had since Beverly Hills. While initially unsure we decided to give it a shot. We had a table right up front and watched the team run around preparing meals like it was the last day on earth. This crew was working so hard it was refreshing and inspiring to see all of them laboring to deliver a crafted product to their patrons. Once the pizza arrived we knew it was going to be special, you could immediately taste the love. The fresh ingredients, the quality sourced cheeses and absolutely perfect crust -My god. If you’re wanting the real deal and ok paying for it… Pizzeria Ida is the spot for you. After we ate, I presumed it was the owner (he was running the team like a quarterback in the Super Bowl) came to our table to see how everything was, I was short for words when I said.. “This was some serious, insanely good freaking pizza” he smiled and said thank you and welcomed us to stay around longer if we liked and then went back to the kitchen to keep pushing out orders. What a special place.

Best pizza spot in town. The BEST quality ingredients and incredible food. I always make it a point to bring friends visiting town here and I go in just about once a week to get the lunch sandwiches. Can’t rave enough about the Italian hoagies. The owners are interesting folks to chat up too.
Julia Berberan
WOW. I just went here for the first time and had the Honeynut Squash square pizza- it was an absolute masterpiece. SO DELICIOUS. Amazing flavor combo of toppings and a really thick & tasty crust. It's not a cheap pizza but it's worth it- it's high quality and is basically two pizzas worth of food in one pie. Highly recommend.
Michael Stevens
Does this place bring the divisive South Jersey/Philly attitude? Yes. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. Emphatically, YES. As long as you understand that what they care about most is the quality of their food and ingredients and you abide my their (admittedly many) rules, you're gonna be fine and you're gonna have some of the best food in your life. The decisions they make are mostly for the good of the quality and enjoyment of all the restaurant patrons, not just you. The flounce is real. Just chill out and enjoy the flounce.

Steer clear if you’re offended by obnoxiously loud and endless Grateful Dead guitar solos with subwoofer bass and incredibly overpriced pizza.
We got there before the crowds made it in yet saw multiple people who came after us being served before us despite having only ordered a simple plain. The wait time was almost exactly one hour… This is far more Grateful Dead than I ever want to hear in one lifetime.
Pizza was upper tier for Vermont, for sure but not a place I’d visit more than once.
Jasna Acharya
Delicious pizza! Bring friends, because their square pies are big and you won’t be able finish it alone.
joseph poulin
Great bread! Outstanding if I wanted bread
. But as pizza? It's mire like bread with pizza sauce and cheese on it. Having said that, it was very well executed. If that's what you want, then it is awesome. I was just looking fir more za and less bread.
idreamofcreemees
spectacular ice cream - love the attention to quality ingredients. Very thick and creamy. Also very good calzones.
Kate Castonguay
I was nervous because the reviews are all over the place BUT I think the whole experience of take out was great. Getting through on the phone took a little while but when they answered they were extremely polite and asked how I was before just asking what I wanted. It's something that small that goes a long way in my book. I was also asked about ice cream which I hadn't considered and decided why not. I brought it back to Hinesburg and heated it a little more. Pizza was great. Yes it's more expensive than most but I was looking for the best pizza, heard Ida had it, and figured it was worth a shot. I don't regret spending the money and tipping as well. They did a great job and we're equally as personable upon pick up. Be patient with the ordering process and order early. You won't be disappointed.
Joseph
Best pizza in the greater Burlington area. Made with excellent ingredients, and pure passion. You can see, smell and taste the difference. Don't let the pricing turn you off, the same money spent at another location would leave you with mounds of wasted, stale pizza. Have the spiritual pizza experience you deserve. Don't be afraid to close your eyes, chew slowly, and experience the dank that is Ida.
Kate Cartwright
The best Napoletano pizza I've ever had! This place has an awesome vibe and top-notch local + Italian ingredients. Their natural-yeast fermented dough is addictive in the best way. Love that it's BYOB!
Anthony P
You gotta realize that Pizzeria IS FINE DINING disguised as a casual pizzeria. Clearly this concept is outside the scope of a town like Burlington, Vermont. Pizzeria Ida belongs in NYC or Philly or San Francisco and LA. Burlington is a town of children.
Julian Soberano (SoBe)
Absolutely phenomenal establishment inside and out. From the quality of the pizza to the atmosphere of the restaurant there’s really nothing like it anywhere around. The highest quality ingredients straight from Italy or sourced locally in VT, combined with a true passion and vision, and all of the food being made by the owners and visionaries themselves, creates a truly unmatched product. They have raised the bar in the pizza world, and brought a wonderful restaurant to the VT, I always recommend people to come here when they visit. Anyone who has something negative to say about the establishment or the owners or way they run their business, is entitled, and doesn’t deserve to taste the taste anyways.
Bill BoBaggins
It’s definitely good pizza. Is it $40 a pizza good pizza? Nah. Owners are locally infamous for being rude people.
Lydia Slauson
Absolutely delicious. This guy cares about quality ingredients. We had the calzone, meatballs, cabbage rolls, and salad. Coming back for some of the fall square pies next.
Justin Holley
This place is great. If I still living in Burlington I would frequent this place. Pizza is the best I've had in Burlington. There sourdough crust is amazing. I met the owners they are great as well.
Marc Coviello
Meatball parmigiana sub was good. Bread was awesome. Meatballs big and filled the sandwich. Sauce was decent enough. Would have liked more mozzarella.
Opened at 5pm. Ordered at 5:05pm. Was told that it wouldn’t be ready until 6pm (breads wasn’t ready). I thought this was weird for a take out meal. Bread was worth the wait.
Food = good
Experience = ok.
If you can’t take feedback “you have much to learn”.
Dave Del Col
Best restaurant and ingredients in the state. Dine in it’s worth it. Iconic atmosphere. Sensational experience from top to bottom. Burlington is spoiled with what Ida brings to the table. Patrick S smokes rocks
Jake Mostov
If this pizza was $20 it would be the easiest 5 star rating ever. At $40 after tax it is really hard to justify more than a 4 star rating.
The crust is wonderful, the flavor of char slightly peaks through. The cheese is very nice, stretchy and slightly chewy with a slightly tangy flavor, but a tad greasy. The bottom crust starts off a little soft, but if it is given time and cools down it will hold the weight of the toppings. The EXTRA attention to detail are what make this pizza shine, the parmesan and fresh basil added after cooking enhance the flavor without blending into the mix.
As the pizza gets older the flavor dulls. A slightly salty flavor starts to jump out, followed by the tomatoes that were previously subdued under the cheese. The crust stays wonderful, chewy with slightly less crunch, and a hint of garlic starts to appear.
Absolutely delicious food. Get someone else to pay for you.
Joanna Robinson
I had an overall good experience.
The space is small but clean. It is clearly Greatful Dead fan space.
It was a little awkward when we got there, they seemed protective of their few seats in their small dining area. But they allowed us to take a high top table.
The three of us ordered different items, all at the same time, but we got the meatball sub (which was dope, high points for that delicious, crispy bread) first, and then the pizzas later at two different times so I would say not the best environment for a shared dining experience unless you feel good about staggered meals.
The menu reflected focus on the specific quality and caliber of the ingredients. And the prices matched.
I didn't see much/any in terms of local ingredients in the menu, nor did I see any commitment to highlighting local ingredients on the menu.
That being said the flavor profiles for the pizzas were really good honestly. It was an unexpected environment, high end pizza in the heart of a diverse working class community, playing Greatful Dead, in a stark space. I really felt well fed.
I feel like the prices reflected an experience I don't believe I found. That being said, I did not have the opportunity to try the coffee, which seemed worth trying.
The chef and staff were very, very kind. And I don't feel cheated, by any means. I enjoyed the experience. But I believe the community surrounding the space may struggle with it's prices. It doesn't feel like it's the best spot for this experiment in high end ingredient pizza.
Tim Rooney
Great atmosphere, food and awesome servers and owner!
Lawrence Gardner
To all the reviews complaining about price, there's no doubt that this pizza is pricey, but you simply cannot get the same quality A) anywhere near here and B) for that much less. This is incredibly high quality. I eat some great pizza from Philly (where Ida's owners come from) and NY. This absolutely sits among my favorites. Pay for quality, folks.
Scoot
Worth the price, super high quality ingredients and a passionate pizza chef makes some killer pies and more
Kristy Brown
Location was hard to find but food was AMAZING! Loved the atmosphere. Pricy but great value.
Ben O'Sullivan
Here is the deal. Go early. My cheat codes to this place are as follows. Go with like 4 people, who can hold a conversation and whom you like, 2 bottles of wine. Get in, order, pop bottles, Chill out, might take 30 minutes for a pizza, but at least when you get the pizza it's going to be as perfect as you can get it. I've cooked from Napa valley to NYC, and this pizza is top 5. If you can't go in and enjoy the process, don't go.
Scott “Grnmntvt”
Chicken Parmesan Sub is the best I ever had. You can't get food like this anywhere in VT that I am aware of. He makes his own bread that I wish he would sell as it is so very good. The chicken not only was cooked perfectly, but is obviously from the highest quality of meat I could have hoped for. Where did you get your cheese and sauce, Italy?
Jesse Berry
I have had pizza all over the northeast, from New Haven, NYC, Boston, New Jersey, gone to Rome and Florence in Italy, even touted as the best pizza ever by Dave Portnoy at Johns of Bleeker in Manhattan..... the BEST pizza I have ever had and truly believe anyone will have, is Pizzeria Ida. The BEST ingredients with naturally leavened dough, real San Marzano tomatoes and incredible cheese, handled by expert hands..... equals the best pizza, I, as well as others, believe. These things cost money and time, but every minute and dollar are very much worth it. Dan is a rock star.
Alexander Fu
Waiting time is a bit long. Pizza is definitely hot and delicious though!
Isabella Caruso
A genuine and authentic experience in all ways: the best pizza around by FAR. I've never felt more at home and welcomed, feels like eating in the comfort of your home. Meatball platter is out of this world....and the Gulf of Salerno Anchovies are phenomenal. Love the fresh seasonal ingredients in your specials :)
Scott Pilgrim
This is the best spot in town and it’s obvious. In a world full of domino’s eatin jabronis ida caters to those who care. San marzano? Bufala? Naturally leavened dough? I don’t need to convince anyone tho they’re plenty busy. Like an off trail spot free from development, Get it while you can, or don’t more for us.
Addison G
This place is super legit, check it out. Worth the price. Great Sicilian pizza.
Liam Walsh
The hate is ABSURD. Super super friendly, amazing food, and the prices really aren't bad considering the portions and quality. This is by far the best pizza I've had in VT. Don't sleep on their sandwiches either. Haven't had a philly this good outside of well... Philly.
Sean Leonardi
We went with a group of 4 on a Wednesday night. Didn't have to wait too long to get out order in; orders are taken at the counter and you get seated after ordering. Split a square pie, burrata, and meatballs between 4 and it was definitely enough food. The dough steals the show, soft and fluffy inside, crunchy flavorful bottom side. We plan on going back soon; I see some reviews on here about the setup/procedure but just be chill and go with the flow, great pizza takes time.
Dave DeCristo
This is a great place. Simple Italian with the best ingredients. There are so many “pizza” places in Burlington - this one is legit. BYOB with a nice laid back and casual dining feel. The specials are amazing. Had a fried mozzarella plate that was phenomenal. The escarole pizza was worth every cent. It filled my heart and soul.
Keith Franchetti
Pizza is top notch! Service is mediocre to weak. Vibe is cool but not welcoming. We've tried both the deep dish and the wood-fired oven pizza here. Both are without reproach. But in a food environment like Burlington's (and for prices like these), there need to be enough chairs in the place; there should be knives and/or spatula strong enough to cut the crust of the deep dish; there should be a couple of drink options for kids and those not bringing their own bottle; and there should be a little more warmth from the staff, e.g, how was your pizza? I want Ida to succeed. The pizza is too great for it not too! That oven is a work of art! The stools that are there are great--just not need 2 or 4 more. This place is such a mixed bag currently. The napkins are terrible given the details of eating pizza like this. They just need to put a little more thought in the details of the whole experience. After 2 tries though, and for this price, not sure we would return without some improvements in these areas. Hope they make it!
Lava Brain
Some of the absolute best pizza in this country, at the moment, happens to be coming from Burlington, VT … Pizzeria Ida is easily the best Italian joint in Vermont. No contest.
Will Wright (home)
Unbelievably great pizza! We went early on a Saturday and were able to sit right by the kitchen & oven where we had great conversation with Dan & Erika, the owners & chefs. They have done a wonderful job decorating the place with some unique stools and counters. We ordered both Sicilian and Neapolitan style pizzas and a salad. The salad came first and was made of fresh local produce, just like we make at home after visiting a farmer's market. The thick-crust Sicilian was better than any other similar pizza I've had. After cooking in a standard Blodget pizza oven, the crust was crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle, a perfect mouthfeel (is that a word?). The cheese & toppings were top-notch, with bufala cheese imported from Italy. The Neapolitan is, I my opinion, the best in Burlington. Again the crust was perfect (all sourdough with a special flour mixture aged overnight), the tomatoes and cheese imported from southern Italy. Their oven is a piece of artwork, imported from Naples, and cooks a pizza at 900 degrees in about one minute. Crispy, chewy, flavorful. If you read about Neapolitan pizza, there are very special requirements, and Pizzeria Ida checks all of the boxes. We have our new favorite pizzeria, and I highly recommend that you check it out!
Matt Grady
super friendly people, tremendous quality for the money, very easy to feed 3 people with one pizza, a real gem. very lucky to have this in BTV.
Anastasia Crowe
This is the best place ever! The food is absolutely AMAZING the pizzas are so real and authentic napolean or Sicilian style (and their big oven they cook the pizzas in is beautiful). They are always super nice and accommodating (I have some dietary restrictions they are always very willing to make something I can eat). Appetizers are all amazing as well. We like to bring our own bottles of wine and Tupperware to bring home lots of leftovers! Inside the place is very aesthetically pleasing as well, with very high ceilings, a direct view into the kitchen to see how they make everything, and a variety of seating including a bar, high chairs, and tables (also a couch!). Very young and hip vibes. It is a little hard to find from the road, but ABSOLUTELY worth it.
Shawn LaFave
The wait was longer than expected but the food made up for it. The square Pizza with pepperoni was outrageous.
Peter Guarco
Best pizza in Burlington, in my opinion. There are other great ones in Burlington, but Dan and Erika at Ida go above and beyond to make Italian pizza with high-quality ingredients and an authentic method. Both the napoletan and square/Sicilian pizza are delicious. Prices are higher than average, but so is the quality. I daresay it's some of the best pizza in the Northeast.
Stephen Campbell
The dankest freaking meal I've had in a looooooong time. Every single thing that came out of the kitchen was insanely delicious. Big love to the owner/chef for taking great care of us. Can't wait to come back.
Karla Zurita
you cant get a pizza like this in the whole state of Vermont! grow up about the price- I know pizza in Burlington that is the same price and inedible ! Pizzas at Ida are made with love for ingredients and for the craft!
Marc Truedson
Some of the best pizza dough I have ever tasted.... A little pricey, but a really really good pie!!!
Connor Moore
If I was on death row, pizzeria Ida would be my last meal on earth. And when asked what I’d like on today’s menu for that last meal, I’d be stricken with silence. Puzzled. Everything on the menu is good. Each item on the menu is a beautiful piece of art: unique in every possible way except in the way that I can’t pronounce any of them. But I’ve never had a bad anything there. Not only that, but Sitting at the front counter with the warm rays of light and steaming “pizza air” reaching my brow, I watch this pizza master’s hand sensually craft a masterpiece of a pie.
Do you appreciate art? If you do then get your behind to Pizzeria Ida! Art is everywhere. To describe the interior is like this heavenly, warm, dank dungeon of mouth pleasures. But it always feels like home.Last night my girlfriend saw me eyeing our finished plate and said, “Babe please don’t. I know it feels like home, but it isn’t.”
Now yes I’ll admit it’s a little pricey, but you are paying for every ingredient. Their ingredients are the most top notch and they bring so much to every dish. I hate wasting my money on any other pizza than Ida. Because no one can compare to the ingredients Ida has. You pay for the ingredients, but they bring the passion. This isn’t about money. This is about passion, pizza, and spreading the dank. I don’t really know what it means, but it sounds cool, and it makes sense when you are there.
I’m a poor college kid who hates paying while going out to eat, but Ida. I’ll give them my money, because not only is it the best meal of my life, they busy their Philadelphian butts (that’s where they are from) working with wood flames at their backs displaying artwork and craftsmanship on demand to bring me a pizza that makes my heart drop 10 bpms and calms me into this coma of flavor.
It’s tough if you are lactose intolerant, but the farts are worth it. Trust me.
It’s True Passion. Straight Blaze.
Andrew Homan
Best pizza in the area. It’s all in the naturally leavened (and not sour) dough and the care with which Ida chooses and prepares its ingredients. The calzone works magic. Or make a meal out of several “snacks.” Go early to avoid crowds and follow Ida’s Insta to see when they are open for to-go only on Sundays.
Erin Kirkpatrick
Delicious pizza, nice atmosphere, but a little pricey on the wallet. Pizza really was incredible, though. The crust was perfectly charred and bubbled, and flavorful. 100% will go again.
Christopher Peck
In many ways, this is the perfect connoisseurs’ restaurant. The owners are the only (visible) employees, and the elegant space is arranged so that the two of them can manage every aspect of their business fluidly, from taking orders to preparing food and serving. Ida conjures old-world flavors, almost exclusively from local ingredients. The place is spotless, airy, not too bright nor dim, and acoustically pleasing.
That said, my wife and I have to steel ourselves to eat here. One of their quirks is distrusting signage. Menu is a tiny, moveable type board, tucked into a nook at 90° to the register. There are no explanations, so customers are forced to ask a lot of questions that the owners resent having to answer, over and over again.
Seating is assigned after one’s order is taken and paid for, which is a sensible arrangement given the limited space. The customer, however, has no way of knowing that until the hosts bark at them for securing seats ahead of time. No signage + counter intuitive seating system = confusion and irritation.
There needs to be more restaurants which, like Ida, experiment with dining arrangements and prepare food as the chef thinks appropriate, rather than catering to the diner’s stagnant preferences. If the restaurateurs cared to jot down their vision (and menu, and rules), all the better.
Julianne Curtis
Expensive but really, really fresh, delicious pizza. BYOB for now. If you love focaccia and fresh, fluffy dough you will LOVE the pizza I got.
John Beard
I haven't had the pizza here yet, but the hoagies are the best I've ever had. They are worth the price.
Brett Tofel
You will order a neopolitan pie and watch while it slides into the huge tiled oven, brought over from Naples. The sauce, cheese and dough ingredients are lovingly chosen and well arranged. If basil isn't the perfect variety then it won't be available that night. You will still be hungry if you split that pie with a friend. Splitting a calzone next should perfectly fill you up. Bring some red wine. Not cheap, unless you compare it to plane flight to, and hotel costs in, Naples. Think of it as travel to a beautiful space and experience.
Nate Getzow
#1 the best pizza in all of Vermont. Prices and policies clearly listed. Flavor is pure gastronomic bliss. If you're going out you're going here, there's no reason to go anywhere else.
Michael Zirngibl
Very good pizza and hoagies. The staff was very welcoming and attentive to our needs. Definitely worth a visit and I will surely return.
Paul Varricchione
Real San Marzano tomatoes. This isn't Pizza Hut. This isn't that "NY style" pizza place. These are real, fresh ingredients that make all the difference. Eat it hot and fresh.
Joshua Huber
Best restaurant in town. Nothing on the menu will disappoint. Dine in if you can.
Carol Guglielmo
Pizza was S tier 👌 loved the Grateful Dead music as well
Mark Capeless
Best pizza in town. Great atmosphere inside. And their insta feed should be a reality show.
Tom Chamberlain
Best pizza in Burlington with a great environment and friendly staff. You get served at the chefs pace rather than the diners pace so be prepared to wait but 110% worth the wait.

Top tier pizza right here, one of, if not the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Super people working, friendly and welcoming 2 out of towners on a cold December evening…. Caesar salad, supplis, meatballs, #1 square pie… everything perfection!
Justin
Genuinely the best pizza I have ever had. Based on the size and quality of the pizza, it is more than worth the price.
Dave Gaida
A pizza chef works here. A variegated experience awaits you in every slice. I hope they never close. The crust is flawlessly flawed and absolutely delicious. I like to think this pizza is filled with good intentions.
