Reviews of Hong's Chinese Dumplings

This was our first time trying Hong’s. Along with the food being so comforting, delicious and reasonably priced, we were treated like family here. The owner brought us our food as soon as it was ready while we sat on the cozy bench near the window. She gave my 9yo some attention and kindness and was also so sweet to the other family eating next to us. We also found it so charming that the owner was singing while cooking. You can tell she takes such pride, love and care in her restaurant and food. If your looking for great food at a place who appreciates your company this is it.

Homemade dumplings and bao. Somewhat bland. Sauces are extra $1.00 per small container. Dumplings were greasy. Sesame noodles with peanut sauce lacked spice.

Hongs is a fantastic dumpling resturant that has been seen on television. The resturant serves a very tasty assortment of dumplings with chili or cranberry sauces.

Sooooo good. I just felt my dumplings were a tad under cooked. But delicious. I got 4 dumplings and a bao... the fillings were delicious. And the portions are huge.

Came by ten minutes after closing, she was locking up. We asked if there was any way we could buy some dumplings. She graciously let us in, we forgot to lock the door and another guy walked in behind us, she served him too. We ordered 16 dumplings and watched her hand make them to order. We talked to her while she made our food. She is very charming and cute. There is limited stool seating but that was fine for us. She has multiple sauces for the dumplings. The dumplings are large and chewy. We all preferred the pork but the creamcheese crab was also well liked. The food was excellent but the 5 stars are for her. She is one of those special people, works hard, shares her love. The dumplings and restaurant aren't about the asthetics, dig a little deeper and you will find what you are looking for.

Stopped here for lunch. The dumplings are really yummy. The negatives are that you have to pay 1$ for dipping sauce... And the scallion pancake was good but not amazing. For the price you pay I want more than 5 pieces of scallions in my pancake. I'd come back but not too often since it's $$.

Wow! We saw a piece in the paper about Hong's and decided to try it. Just superb food. Very small space though so you may want to do take out. We had dumplings, scallion pancake, and fried rice. All were terrific! Be sure to try Hong's homemade ginger garlic soy sauce.

I love this place, personally. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea though! The dumplings are meant to have sauce added, but I honestly just enjoy eating them without sauce. Nothing really beats homemade dumplings! My go-tos are the veggie dumplings and the pork.
Sam Liebowitz
Very unique dumpling place! The dumplings are much bigger than expected and the bao were huge and tasty. Not many spots to eat in so be prepared to take the food to go if it's busy.

I used to wait all winter to get the dumpling lady’s dumplings in the summer on Church Street. When I first saw the storefront I could have cried :’) now I eat dumplings all year round. These dumplings are exactly what they’ve always been: tasty, filling, and economically priced. Hong is a friendly, prosperous, local success!

Worth a try if you're in the area. The sauces everyone raves about weren't any better than hot chili oil I've tried elsewhere, but maybe I got a substandard batch. The dumplings were very filling, and the scallion pancake was awesome.
Service was wildly fast, and there are cool pictures of notable visitors on the wall to look at during the minimal wait time.

This is really fantastic American Chinese Food. What to expect from the genre:
Sweet
Plenty of oil
Industrially processed veggies (baby carrots, frozen corn/pea/carrot mix)
Etc.
Enjoy it! Eat kale on Monday.
The scallion pancake, although small, was the perfect balance of chewy and crunchy. Beats any I've had in the dumpling shops in San Francisco.
The cream cheese and crab dumplings blew our minds. I loved the thick, homemade wrapper with the silken interior. The pork were equally satisfying.
We ordered the combos, with the peanut noodles and fried rice both being enormous portions. They were both tasty, but the noodles could use some more mix-ins and the rice some more seasoning. This was quickly fixed by the killer cranberry and chili sauces, liberally applied to everything.

The dumplings are being made on a table directly behind the counter, and fried on the stove right behind that. I loved it. You see the people making the food and the food being made, and get to enjoy it as soon as it's ready. I may have missed out on some sauces though, when I went there was only hot chili oil or cranberry to purchase, and I had heard great things about a sweet and sour sauce. I'll be sure to stop by again and get saucy then.

I heard of this places several years ago and have wanted to visit since. Finally managed to get here and it was worth the wait. Definitely not a standard restaurant experience, but more like handing Grandma money for groceries and getting to enjoy the results. All in the best way possible.

Hong’s is a must go to if you are in Burlington. Make sure to call in your order ahead of time. These are the best dumplings. The owner of the shop (Hong) is one of the hardest workers ever and her dumplings are made by hand using her own authentic recipe. For the price that you pay, you get SO much food (and leftovers for the following day). Both Hong and her workers are so incredibly friendly. I love going here!
Al Mann
Wow! Pleasantly surprised.
Great food and amazing flavor. Recommend the chicken and pork dumplings. Fried rice was some of the best I have ever had.

Hands down worth the drive from PA. We talk about Hong’s dumplings between trips until we can get back to savor the amazing comfort food that is Hong’s authentic dumplings. Gracious owner and employees who have always greeted us with smiles. Thanks! Until next time!

Oops. My son and I arrived before opening on a Sunday morning at 11:30ish. However despite our clueless barging in the proprietor graciously welcomed us and honored our hunger for dumplings and bao. The dumplings are country home style, without fancy pleats - that would take too long for the sheer volume of goodness originating from this tiny kitchen where you can watch the dumplings production as a performance art much like watching noodles made by a pro. The vegetable dumplings we got were just the right blend of crispness and softness.with wonderful flavor inside - a perfect trifecta. We took chopsticks and ate outdoors on a bench on nearby Church Street, saving our red bean bun for later. Take out only at the moment.
Matt Martinez
The dumplings are decent and clearly made by a Chinese grandma (she was making them as we ordered) but the other food we tried was kind of whack. The sesame noodles are just spaghetti with like a thin peanut butter sauce and the cucumber salad was super watery and on the verge of mush. The best thing by far is the spicy chili sauce; if you go make sure you put it on everything.

My sister lives in Vermont and raved about this place and she didn't exaggerate, everything was wonderful and everybody enjoyed the food. The pork baos are big and generously filled and wonderful, we also got dumplings stuffed generously with crab cream cheese or pork, and the scallion pancakes are amaaaaaazing. It tastes like they fried them hard and put everything bagel seasoning on them or something like that they are delicious.

I didn't expect the dumplings to be so large for the price, and they were very delicious. I watched them stuff, seal, and fry them to order which I thought was super neat. The three ladies working there at the time I went were super friendly and pleasant, even though we had ordered 20 dumplings near closing time. I'm a big fan of the crab and cheese ones, with their cranberry and chili sauce on the side for dipping. If I wasn't from out of town, I'd go here more often. Thanks for a great meal!
Daniel Wiedenheft
Great food, portions are huge! Only down side was no AC so it was miserably hot inside.

My favorite place for dumplings! Delicious, flavorful, and filling! The staff is always friendly and the food is consistently amazing. I'm really glad Hong has her own restaurant so I can get her dumplings year round. Some people are commenting about grease/sogginess, but I have never experienced any sort of problems like that, and my fiance and I have ordered from them many times. All in all, the best place in Burlington to get dumplings!
Brenda
Delicious pork dumplings! Hands down the best I've ever had. Scallion pancakes were crispy and delicious as well. Great customer service. Excited to go back!
Miriam
I have loved Hongs dumplings since she had a cart on Church street. Food is always so great. Love the guestbook so we can continue to show her our love.

IT'S ALL SO DAMN GOOD! EAT HERE, IT'S AMAZING!
Jennifer Shull
Absolutely loved the dumplings, scallion pancake, and giant bao bun! So glad we were in town when she was open. Such a lovely lady as well.
Nina Do
Very lovely place! The dumplings smelled delicious! I had four pork and four veggie dumplings. The dumplings are huge! However, the dumpling skin was WAY too thick for my liking. Also, majority of my dumplings were not sealed properly, so I could see the inside without even biting into it first.
Jon Noeldner
In town on business and needed to run to the post office. On the way, I happened to walk by Hong’s. Did I mention that I love dumplings? Middle of the day, but had to try them out. I am glad I stopped. Three pork dumplings for five dollars; done to perfection, good taste and served with a smile. I’ll return, and you should think about stopping by if you find yourself in Burlington.
Neal Rana
We had the most amazing experience today. The dumplings were on point and the sauces compliment them perfectly. It’s a must go to spot if you’re in town! I will be coming back before heading back to jersey tomorrow.
Ed Shannon
Simply Amazing dumplings, the best I have had !
Anthony Sciuto
Tried the pork and veggie dumplings, and the scallion pancake. Everything was excellent!! Seating was very limited.

7 years ago, I was living in Vermont with my awesome roommate Martin. We discovered Hong's dumplings on Church Street out of her little cart. We were instant devotees after our first try. Thankfully, she was on twitter and posted regularly about where she'd be next. We followed her religiously and I have never forgotten her amazing dumplings and that ridiculously awesome red sauce. I still dream of Hong's dumplings and am thrilled to see that she has her own restaurant now. It's so well deserved and I wish Hong all the best! Can't wait til I'm in Burlington next so I can enjoy her dumplings with my family!

Awesome little spot. Dumplings and Crispy Scallion Pancake.
farmgirl9923
Very good house made dumplings and fried rice, delicious sauces as well! The place is TINY with very little seating, almost more like a deli take out spot rather than an actual sit down restaurant. The menu is extremely limited, but what they offer, they do well. If the weather is good, I'd suggest getting your order to go, then enjoy it at the park or on the Church St. mall, as the place can get pretty crowded since it's so small.
Robert Cole
These are the best homestyle Chinese grandma style dumplings I've ever had in my life. They're huge, they're unwieldy, there are only like six kinds, and they're all amazing. Try the fried rice as well. If you need a cheap tasty lunch, this is the place to fill that pit of existential midday dread you've been working up all morning.

Tried one of each dumpling. Unique dipping sauces . We liked the cream cheese best

Hong's is a comfy little restaurant. With a small space it might not be the best for a family sit down meal. Sit down eating is perfect for a group of 3. The exposed kitchen and friendly staff are very welcoming. I recommend you try the dumplings and the giant steamed bao if they're on the menu for the day!
Rachel Alberico
These dumplings are the best, the best lunch/dinner for your money (especially if you get the combo.) Plus, there is always fast and very friendly service! I have been a happy and loyal customer for years and will be for many to come!
Lissa S
Delicious dumplings!! Small local location, great food, love stopping here! I wish there were more items on the menu but it's a very small business so it's understandable. Food for take-out. There are not places to sit and eat inside the restaurant.
Cameron Bradley
I love this place. The dumplings are fantastic and the owner is one of the nicest people I have met. It's always a pleasant experience to grab a meal there to either to sit in the window, or to grab takeout.
Aaron Bernstein
Super delicious! Hong is a Burlington icon! Everything is great but definitely try the scallion pancake
Eli Atticus Jager
Just as good as the food cart. Probably better. The location is a little odd. I don't find myself on foot in that part of turn all that often, but when I do I make a stop. This place is great and I'm glad she found a place to make it work.
No thanks to leunigs and their completely unnecessary acquisition of that small building some 30 feet away from their main building.
Hong's deserved that spot.
Either way, this place is good and affordable.
Well worth a visit.

I was a fan of Hong when she had the cart on Church Street, and still a huge fan and customer today. I ALWAYS , no matter what, always get the crab & cream cheese dumplings... TO DIE FOR. I Would have ratwd five stars...HOWEVER, i notice i get charged different prices sometimes, and i ALWAYS get the exact same dish. This has happened more than once, even after the correct and official price was given to me. I sometimes think--careless or intentional? I'll still be grabbin' them, though. The staff is always friendly, and you get a lot of food for your dollar. Wish i could pre-order online.

Delicious but they need better to-go packaging.
Ashley Williams

Fresh, home-made dumplings! New location, same great food! As someone who has eaten a lot of dumplings, Hong's dumplings are excellent and a great part of the Burlington food scene.
Craig Bushey
The dumplings are the best in this state. You get a lot for the price you pay. The wait is not long at all. And the workers are very friendly. I recommend trying it at least once.
McCall Eddington

Authentic made by hand dumplings and Bao. Expect a bit of a wait during lunch hours as they have a small number of employees. Worth it though.
