Have to give this place 5 stars. Great staff, great food, great menu. We came at 12P on a weekend right when they opened, and we’re treated with prompt service and fresh food. The raw oysters were great and high quality, as was the fried grouper. Hush puppies were some of the best I’ve had, felt like we were near the ocean!

This is a great place for a nice lunch whether early or late. We ordered an array of different oysters that were all yummy. Our favorite was the Nola oysters which we ordered once more after the first batch. The lobster role was fresh with the bun being toasted perfectly. My shrimp and grits were rich in flavor. It was also very creamy. The prices are just right and food comes out quick and hot. Staff was very friendly as well. Great atmosphere for drinks. A stroll down the busy neighborhood street will help you work off the calories, so be sure to indulge and have a nice meal. Will come back here again when I’m in town.

O... M... G...!!! Is all I can say about this Great food, great service, great atmosphere restaurant. I have been on the search for oysters that can compare to one popular restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana. I tried the Oysters Sampler, and was very satisfied. I think the NOLA Oysters and the Crab & Bacon Oysters were my favorites of the three choices (Rockefeller Oysters were the third choice) . I must say they have THE BEST lobster Mac and cheese I have ever tasted. It is not just little sprinkles of lobster here and there. The fried okra is DELICIOUS, as if your Grandma cooked it, per our Waiter. He was RIGHT! There were several other items on the menu that I will need to return for in order to try. I brought back home for my husband and son the Cajun Chicken with red beans & rice and broccoli, and the Shrimp N Grits. They both smelled very good. And both of my guys were satisfied. My friend also ordered the Oysters Sampler. We agreed on our preferred oysters. She also had the Crab Cake as a Starter. She let me taste, and it seemed as if they already squeezed the lemon on there. That is preferred to be done on our own. In the meantime, the atmosphere was very welcoming as well. Our Waiter was Daniel B. He was the best. Friendly, welcoming, helpful, pleasant. A great person to have on your staff. Thanks for your service Daniel B. Thanks for your hospitality Fontaine's Oyster House. I'll be back!

First time trying raw oysters and I was not disappointed. They were absolutely fresh and delicious. After a short 30-minute wait, we were excited to try their menu. The peel-and-eat shrimp were juicy and succulent. The lobster roll was massive, at least half a pound of lobster meat. My daughter loved her seafood gumbo. Fontaine's is affordable with excellent customer service and good food.

Great oysters, raw or baked. Mussels with red saw was excellent. Calamari was good, 2 sauces were great. Crawfish sandwich was very good. Shrimp & grits was on the creamy side, nice touch with the spinach. Fried oysters were on the thick batter crunch side, excellent option with the Caesar salad. Lobster roll was plentiful, but I would skip this one - lobster meat was toasted with bun? Shrimp etouffee was a bit salty with the sausage & sauce. Lobster bisque was good, a bit on the sweet side. Crowded place, but fast & friendly service. We will be back. Get the oysters!

the restaurant was dimly lit and I guess that was good to preserve energy but my eyes are seasoned and need a little bit more light inside so I decided to go sit on the patio out back. Great choice. So about the cuisine: Maybe it was the region they purchased these oysters from but they seem more sandy/grittier than usual to me. Not all of them because I didn't send any back lol. I did enjoy the majority them. I ordered 1/2 Rockefeller oysters and a half of garlic.. something. The lobster bisque was absolutely delicious. The perfect consistency, color, smell and taste. I thoroughly enjoyed that treat! I was famished that day so I ordered the catfish nuggets too.😋 They were not nuggets they were thick pieces of filleted catfish cut in half. This place could have easily shared by two. They were palatable but I didn't care for the flavor. It tastes a little fishy to me. Not the breading but the meat. Sometimes the biggest catfish is not the best as far as catfish goes. My waitress was very pleasant and knowledgeable.

The food here was very good. I like that they had a lot of seating and you could sit outside with an outside heater. Our service was good and so was the food. The oysters were pretty good and the pita bread they gave with the dip was amazing. Overall the experience was good and I'll try them again.

I went back on 4/7/22 to Fontaine and still had excellent experience. The blue point oyster was great and the wine they recommended was wonderful with the oyster. The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was nice. I ask couple of customers sitting next to me about their meals and they said it was great. I had to agree with them, my meal was really great. It was so good I ate it without taking a picture.

Han was our server and he was awesome. He answered all of our questions with great knowledge and ensured that our experience was pleasurable. Appetizer: gulf point and NOLA oysters were great. Drinks: tequila mockingbird and blueberry bliss. Mmmmm mmmmm good Entrees: Husband had the jambalaya, tater tots (I couldn't leave his alone) and Me: I had the crabcakes, but unfortunately the consistency of the crab was more like a salmon patty. Han ensured that I left pleased with my experience and replaced it with the catfish and I was definitely pleased. The manager even came out to understand why I didn't enjoy the crabcakes. I appreciate that and it's a sign of excellent customer service. Dessert: Red Velvet cake. 😋 We will be visiting again...

Nola oysters and blackened shrimp pasta were delicious. My date had the shrimp etouffee and enjoyed it. I tried the hibiscus margarita, it was strong but it was on the bitter side so I didn’t care for. Definitely plan to return.

Great oysters from Connecticut! I found out you can order oysters 1 at a time to try out the different kinds. Limited seating and small bathrooms, but well-maintained and clean.

Tuesday deal!! Oysters were yummy. Grouper Fingers Fried, blackened shrimp basket, okra, fries and hush puppies. Very nice. We sat outside. The inside was nice and dim. Very cold too so great on them hot summer days. Staff was friendly. Parking in this area is tricky but you can find free spots on the street. I say go. If you like seafood, especially oysters, check them out

The Shrimp and Grits were absolutely phenomenal. The spinach cream sauce was divine. It is on my list of some of the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. The service was excellent, Andrew, was very attentive and gave great suggestions. I highly suggest if you are in the Virginia Highlands area that you stop in and give Fontaine’s a try, it will be worth it.

Great place, with amazing service by Rod. Get the crawfish Po Boy, it was overflowing with Crawfish. We also got the Tuesday Oyster special and bowl of the Oyster Stew. All was great and will be back!!

Great place for cocktails and oysters. Other seafood option are also tasty. My most recent trip, the oysters were fantastic. They are served in various ways but I just get raw. I also split the fried crawfish, okra, and red potatoes with my dinner companion. Great place for Po Boys. Delicious! A lot of outside seating and great patio. Parking is tricky if you aren't used to parking in the city. Use side streets in the Highlands or there is a lot at the corner of Los Angeles Ave that is around $6.

Everything is delicious! My only 'go to' choice for fresh oysters! My most recent was for a special occasion and they did not disappoint! Tuesday night "12 for $12 on the half shell" (my phrase) was a great compliment to the NOLA and Rockefeller Oysters. The option of 3 sides for $12 was great too. The fried okra and the Zucchini & Squash were prepared just right. My waiter Han was the best, and my bartendress Sue put love into the 'Hibiscus Margarita' and 'Tequila Mockingbird' ($12 each) that we ordered. (🤔There seems a common theme on price.) I wish that I could afford to treat myself to this delishness more often. "I'll be back!" 😋

Let me start by saying our server was awesome! She was attentive and she gave us pointers on the drinks. The food was delicious! I had the lobster roll and a side salad and a spinach dip appetizer. The bartender also made sure our shot was full!

Stumbled upon this restaurant after visiting another establishment in the area. The food was delicious, the environment was lovely, and our server was fantastic!! Fontaine's is our new favorite place and highly recommend to others to try it out! We ordered the raw oysters, low country boil, and crab cake dinner with the tastiest fries!

Omg the food and service was Amazingggggggg... Me and hubby had the Rockefeller oysters and Calamari for appetizers then for main course hubby had the lobster roll and I had the blackened chicken pasta and added shrimp. Also the hibiscus margaritas was on point It'll definitely sneak up on you.

Always a delicious experience every time I get a chance to pop in here. I get the same thing each time; the cocktail: Every Rose Has Its Thorn, the starter: house oysters, the meal: lobster roll. It’s perfect for a treat yourself kind of day. The vibes are immaculate, lighting dim and relaxed, and the service is always on point. There’s a book store and cute shopping near by as well, or after you eat you can take a stroll around the quaint little neighborhood.

This was my first time here and I was not disappointed. We ate inside in the main dining area, but there is also covered outside seating. For starters we had the lobster bisque, which is a tomato based broth, and the NOLA oysters. Both were tasty. The bisque was creamy and soothing, but not the flavor palette I was looking for. I don't like oysters but enjoyed the NOLA oysters and the cheesy goodness in top. Entrees: shrimp and grits- creamy and flavorful. I give it a 7/10. We loved all of the fried foods. The okra was plentiful and had a lovely crunch that I enjoyed. It was cooked just the way I like it. The fried shrimp were lightly battered and nice sized. There were plenty crawfish in the basket... so good. The catfish filet was seasoned and fried to perfection. I'm usually a very lover, but preferred the tots over the fries. The best part is the prices were so reasonable. Our meals ranged from $12-$16. I'm looking forward to returning again.

Great service, ordered the lobster roll and it was pretty bland. The bun wasn't buttery, the lettuce was hot and mushy, the lobster was room temp and the aoili added no flavor. I nibbled on the lobster mac and cheese and it was pretty good

One of my "go to" spots in ATL for oysters. The broiled are good, as are the crab and bacon stuffed, UT the Rockefeller had a little too much cheese for my liking. The cocktails are refreshing! The location and ambiance is cool.

Fontaine's is Atlanta's best spot for Cajun food. They have great po boys and oysters, as well as tons of other classics. The staff are really friendly and the back patio is really nice. This is an excellent spot for a meal.

Great Tavern / a Oyster house in the heart of Virginia Highlands. This New Orleans infused restaurant is a great place to hang and get your Nola fix. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service is great. I started with the chargrilled “NOLA” style oysters and they were very good... Followed by blackened catfish and fried okra which was spot-on. Great place with a nice bar, indoor and outdoor balcony seating.

What a fantastic neighborhood restaurant. We enjoy the Tuesday oyster special. But my favorite is the rice balls. So flavorful. A must try. The cocktails are fabulous. Well made. The lobster bisque is really good, just give it a dash of hot sauce. They have a huge balcony for outdoor dining. If you are in the area you should try it. We enjoy taking out of town guests there.

Had an amazing dinner at Fontaines before the hawks game, not only was the food top notch but the service was incredible. Our server Hanish knew we had a game to get to, so he did everything he could to accomodate us. Fast, Friendly, and Delicous! We will be back!

The food was pretty good, we had the salmon with okra and broccoli. The okra had a salty spicy taste, which was not bad. The salmon was cooked pretty good (soft not flaky) good flavor. The two crabcake dinners, the crabcakes were ok, the sauteed spinach the other with steamed broccoli. The spinach had no seasoning to me, very bland. I love spinach so I would probably get it again and just add what ever I can to fix it🤷‍♀️. We ordered lobster bisque and the gumbo, and the bisque was very very good. I started to order more to take home but I forgot. The hush puppies are really good and they were hot and crispy. The crab dip was pretty good and tasty with the pita bread. We followed the meal with a Chardonnay (La Crema) that was okay but not paired right with the food we had but pretty good. I will go back to this place because of the atmosphere and the really good lobster bisque. Customer service was good, very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm sad I can't remember his name but he does have a beard. 🤷‍♀️

A place with steamed oysters! We were so excited to see them on the menu. It is a quirky place, with a beautiful bar and awesome outdoor seating. We really enjoyed eating at the bar and watching them shuck some oysters. The lobster bisque and lobster roll are delicious. Oysters are very good as well!

Food was good, oysters were great. Service was off- inattentive, long wait times for food, not very friendly. Drinks were not good, old fashioned was syrupy sweet with maraschino cherry juice in the cocktail and the beer tasted like the lines had not been cleaned in a long time. The food, the service —everything was top notch. My boyfriend and I started off with a calamari appetizer and then finished with oyster stew and blackened jumbo shrimp with sausage as a side. Everything on both plates was eaten and excellent. If you are looking for a chill seafood spot that won’t cost you your whole paycheck, you cannot go wrong with Fontaine’s.

Wanted to try places in the city that serves fresh and cooked oysters, however I was a bit underwhelmed. The NOLA oysters are the best ones all around, didn't care for the Rockefeller oysters as they put pesto in the mix which didn't taste good. There are specials on the steamed shrimp on Mondays, you get a decent bit for a half pound which was $5 but the shrimp were bland. Not much taste to the shrimp at all which sucked. However, the customer service was excellent and the place has a very cool New Orleans theme going.

I’ve been here several times for their happy hour on Tuesdays. The dozen of oysters for $10 are always freshly shucked and tasty. The bisque and calamari are also another one of my favorites. They also have a great selection of beers.

Much better experience! Today had a fun energetic crowd! We had the oysters on a half shell ( in which I ate a dozen!) And we ordered the $10 crawfish boil which were obviously reboiled😕! But kudos to the chef for accepting the constructive criticism and remaking them fresh for us! The service was very good and I had a 😋delicious $5 Fat Tuesday drink that I forgot the name of! 😁😁 We will definitely be back! #Tuesday date nights

We found this gem during Covid and enjoyed our family dinners there even though we could only eat on the outside deck. We we went back yesterday first time in 2 years and it doesn’t disappoint. I don't eat oysters like that but they were 1/2 off on Tuesdays! Sat at the bar and would have had a beer but they only had dark strong brews. Female bartender was not very friendly and not very attentive...no water no conversations...at least for us "brown" people....she seemed very chatty to all others though.🤷 Just the vibe we got …

Excellent spot for excellent seafood. The service was great and the food came out quick. Oysters were a little small but very fresh and delicious. The crab legs and shrimp were scrumptios and easily peelable. The lobster bisque was on point, very creamy and full of lobster and little filler. The crab cakes had a small amount of filler so they weren't "true" maryland crab cakes, but I would order them again. Highly recommend Fontaine's. I am normally a picture poster but the food looked too good to not eat first. Here is a pic I snapped after the deluge of peeling ensued. We will definitely be taking the trip from Macon to eat here more often!

Hadn't been to Fontaine's in years and had such a great experience a couple weeks back. This place is what it is - casual, fun, oysters were phenomenal and the lobster rolls and poboys we ordered were delicious. Great place to meet for a cold drink and unfussy meal.

There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about this place. The food was absolutely THE BEST seafood I've ever had at an restaurant not located near water. I can't wait to go back!!! Update... I've been back several times and had a great experience. Even though on my last visit the crab cake was a bit off. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was, but I was certain that it didn't taste right. Our server was great and allowed me to choose another item which was fantastic.

We celebrated my husband's birthday there last Saturday with family & friends. Service was excellent (Tay) our server was top notch. The Crabcake was pretty good but could use a bit of Old Bay. I'm a Maryland native & know a good Crabcake when I taste one. It was not Lump crabmeat. The guys totally enjoyed the Oysters on the half shell. They ate several dozen. Shrimp & Grits were ok. The Salmon & Po Boys were delicious. The Fried fish was good also. The Montana & Moscow Mules were great as were the other Cocktails. It is an older building & we enjoyed the vibe. Went for the fried oysters and they were just as I wanted: not too large with a thin flavorful cornmeal coating.. not hushpuppy batter. Also had the fried catfish and mussels in white wine. All delicious!! Only ask would to have fried whiting on the menu. Also, the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. The outdoor seating reminded me of French district at times.

My husband and I took our family here last weekend. This was a great place to visit with family and friends. We ended up being here for quite a few hours and ordered quite a bit of oysters raw and roasted as well as jambalaya, shrimp and grits, and a shrimp po boy. This place was fun, but I do have to say mind your walk to the bathroom. The floors are a little uneven and if you get a little too intoxicated, you might have some tripping issues. There is also parking behind the building if you have any trouble with streets parking.

We called ahead for reservations. We were told that reservations was not required and there was no wait. When we arrived there was a 45 minute wait. There is limited indoor, so it is more likely that you will be seated outdoor. The heat lamps make the cool weather easier to handle. Overall the food was good and the vibe is chill.

Their food and drinks are wonderful!!! Their table service is terrible though. Our waitress was always flying by us like she was super busy. She was pleasant but barely gave us the time of day. We had to yell as she was flying by us when we needed something. The first time we went we sat at the bar and had great service there. This time we went for dinner so we wanted to enjoy our meal at a table where we had plenty of room for our food and didn't feel cramped. I highly recommend trying this restaurant, go in with the mindset you're going for the food not the service.

Went for Monday night half price peel and eat shrimp, crab cakes, fried pickles, and a side salad. All were high quality (and I am SO picky with my seafood) We got a hot pound for $9 of giant shrimp, The crab cakes were very good quality and more crab than cake (also why I hardly ever order crab cakes unless I know they are good). The patio seating was super nice tonight and the service did it's job. I would actually say this is casual, but no complaints. Parking was easy as well, The wood place next door has a parking lot that is free after 6 pm.

Stumbled upon this place when coming to this area to get my nails done. It looked really quaint. The smells were so amazing that by the second time I came to get my nails done I just knew I had to try this place out. Thank goodness I did, the atmosphere is amazing, sitting inside or outside on the wrap around balcony upstairs, it’s perfect for a date night or night out with friends. The lighting inside is low and the atmosphere is cozy. The food and drinks was amazing and the service was good. Nice friendly waiters, and food came out in a decent amount of time. I will definitely visit again.

Dined here with a large group from work last evening. The service was friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. From all of the appetizers we shared to my grouper basket, it was all prepared well and I couldn't really pick a favorite. My one and only tiny remark is the limited wine menu but I was able to find a suitable Cabernet Sauvignon. I would definitely recommend this establishment.

I went to Fontaine's awhile back and 1. The scenery on the outside patio was AMAZING 2. The oysters were great and 3. The beer paired perfectly with the oysters. It was ice cold and perfectly poured. Fontaine's is always delicious! And right now they are doing a great job accommodating for COVID. All dining is outdoor only and they have extra tables out of the sidewalk and masks are required to dine (can take off at the tables outside, but please put it back on when your server visits you). It's admittedly a bit chaotic being on the side walk (the back patio was full when we ate there), but the food was still delicious and the service was great!

One of the only true oyster bars in Atlanta, this place has a great variety. The inside is mostly bar and a few booths but there's a real nice covered patio area in the back which is elevated and overlooking a parking lot. Not really for the view but the ambience. Adam was our server and he was really attentive and told us about the specials and a few suggestions. Extremely personable, professional, and friendly. Tuesdays are half priced house raw oyster day so you better believe we had a few dozen oysters. Also finished it off with their lobster bisque. I could literally eat here 3 times a week and not get tired of it.

You'll have to find parking on the street, which can be tricky. But, when you arrive you'll be greeted by friendly staff and a casual atmosphere. The outside patio is a lovely place to enjoy a cold drink and their excellent sea food! The house oysters are great, and the low country boil is enough for two! I highly recommend Fontaine's if you're looking for great see food in town.

This is a bit of a drive for us, so we don't get here as often as we would like to! We enjoy coming here. We're retired, so we like to come during the week, mid-day, when it's not busy - maybe around 2:00 PM or so. We like this time because the staff isn't rushed, they're in coast mode until the next wave, and will talk a bit with us about their day, etc. We enjoy the atmosphere, the look and feel of the place. We enjoy the oysters - we like ours steamed. We like to sit at the bar, where we can talk with the bartender. We usually order some type of appetizer, then 2 dozen steamed oysters to share. We go through those pretty quick. Then we might select, and split, an order of Oysters Rockefeller. We might have a beer, or try a bourbon or two, served neat. All-in-all, a nice way to spend some time, while having an oyster fix!

Food was really good. I ordered the Alfredo pasta with blackened shrimp, it was delicious. I also really enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip, instead of tortilla chips they served it with warm pita bread. They didn't have lemonade, which I was surprised. I usually order an Arnold Palmer as a drink but couldn't. Other than that this is a nice spot. Very intimate and dark, we had a party 15 and they were able to accommodate us. Will definitely go back. Heads up there is COMPLIMENTARY VALET after you pass the restaurant on the same side of the restaurant, a few businesses down. Don't pay the $2 parking. Lol ENJOY!!

Super hard to find oysters in Atlanta period let alone good ones. Had been wanting to try Fontaine's for a while and finally got the chance. The raw oysters were great quality and the new Orleans style ones were pretty good too. Definitely go raw if you're into that sorta thing ;). Dope beer and wine selection along with being open late makes it a nice place to chill and enjoy good drinks and food with friends. Five stars well deserved.

Oysters rocafeller were disappointed. The charbroiled are better and the bacon and cheese are ok. My blackened Alfredo was so salty I couldn’t enjoy it. My partner had the blackened Alfredo as well and his was not salty so it may have just been mine. The waiter argued with us that it’s blackened and should be salty.

Ordered seafood appetizers : warmed large peel n eat shrimp, (added extra old bay seasoning)+ cocktail sauce with horseradish; crab dip with pita bread; fried calamari rings and sweet chili dipping sauce; -all taste really good. Portions was large enough for 3 people to share. Also, ordered the seafood gumbo which included smoked sausage, shrimp, chunks of white fish, okra, veggies, the gravy was just okay. I taste a heavy amount of Sherry which made the gravy taste sweet, but after adding 4 house oysters to the bowl and a splash of tabasco the gumbo taste delicious. Lobster bisque was a thick, creamy, cup full of generous chunks of lobster meat - without sherry. (maybe the kitchen expeditor splash the sherry into the wrong soup dish)😁. However, it was very good. As a beverage try the hot toddy.👍👍👍

The food was great. We had the fried scallops platter, fries, alfredo pasta with blackened scallops, and the seafood gumbo. The scallops were delicious on both dishes, cooked perfectly. The seafood gumbo was very good, though I like it to be a bit spicier and thicker than it is made here. The alfredo was also good, more creamy than cheesy like one may get at an Italian restaurant, and with a touch of spice that ties it up very well. The waiter was not very attentive, but the service was better in previous visits. Will refurn to check out more of the menu. Oh and the $12 crab legs, which are on special each Wednesday were delicious as well.

Didn't really have any flavor which surprised me being a lot of the reviews I read it was a recommended dish however I wasn't impressed. Service was good. I wish they would take reservations especially when they have limited seating because of Covid and they won't let you wait inside because of social distancing (I suspect) but to be forced to wait outside in the cold for an hour really took away from the experience. Overall it was just ok. I wouldn't drive an hour to come back, maybe if in the area I would stop by.

I’m from WI so I came to ATL looking for fried whole catfish. After an hour and a half looking I sadly realized that it’s a thing of the past for ATL. However I found the next best thing... FONTAINE’S OYSTER BAR!!!! They have this catfish basket served with juicy catfish chunks/fingers. They were falling apart like it was coming off the bone. I was super happy and it was sooo GOOD. I highly recommend this place if your looking for good catfish.
