Loved it! Very cute place with contemporary, fun Mexican fusion decoration, super nice and friendly staff and really good food. I wasn't expecting much from a Mexican place in Alaska but I really liked it. Ate too much just because I wanted to try more things. Everything was very well made and tasty. Would definitely love to come back!

A relatively small menu (except for tequila) but that's cause everything they make is next level. The calimari tastes fresher then off a boat. The goat cheese balls are flavored to perfection. The tacos worth every cent. Even the dessert kills. Are there people having a good time? You betcha. 10/10 would recommend for a good night out. Oh and the staff is fantastic. The waitress and busser are super available and knowledgeable, the bartenders are having a great time and showing their skills and the kitchen make magic.

THE BEST!! The atmosphere, the food, the drinks, the staff, i could go on and on. Everything was just absolute perfect. My husband and I went on a date night and wanted to try something new. Well im glad we did! The food was “the bomb”. I say that because we literally finished everything. The plate was clean! 5 stars and would totally come back again. If you’re looking for a chic fancy restaurant with good food and just good vibes, this is the place to be! Love, love, love it!

Fairly tasty food and decent drinks at the bar. Service was simple but satisfying. The odd thing about this place though was despite the quite lovely Mexico-themed decor they were playing kind of terrible '80s hairband music really loudly and I just couldn't get over it. 😅 There's probably better Mexican food around town but it's a cute place for a date if you're into Motley Crue.

Enjoyable overall. The tacos were tasty but lacked any defining elements to elevate them above standard fare. Cocktails and tequila/ mezcal selection is extensive. Service was friendly but slightly less attentive then I would have liked.

If you're looking for that " VIBE" ....this is the place to be!! I'm from Vegas so I'm always looking fir something similar to being back at home and this place had me at "How many?"..lol Food...Amazing, Staff...Amazing Big thanks to the G.M Amy!!!!! Thank you for making us feel at home and sharing a few laughs!!! Our waiter that night was awesome.. I don't want to misspell his name but he waited on us 6 Dec 22 that night....as he waiting on a large group of soldiers that came in as well.. See you guys and dolls soon!!

Good food, nice small portions so you can eat a variety and not feel like you gorged yourself. Drink selection is wonderful and the flights are on point. Service is slow in that it takes a while for staff to notice you’re there; food arrived quickly once we ordered. Our server was awesome and super helpful with the menu; hostess seemed like maybe she was having a bad day. Prices, like most places these days, are high - upwards of $100 for two adults and a kid (no kids menu, but the quesadilla was delicious). Great decor and atmosphere. Make a reservation!

Visiting from Arizona. This was our goodbye dinner. Service was great. I can tell servers were working extra hard since it was very busy. Food did take a while to come but that is understandable. Place was clean and so were the bathrooms. The drinks were super good and we tried the calamari and popcorn shrimp definetly recommend. Tacos were good. Tortilla soup, okay. The molcajetes were WAY overpriced for what you get.

Great service, good ambiance but food is just not good. The queso is basically melted cheese in a thin dish that cools very quickly and becomes gummy and thick. I ordered tortilla soup and it was terrible. It was more like stew. Tasted like shredded chicken in tomato sauce with very little flavor. Disappointed. Prices are high for the quality of food. The place has potentional but the food/menu need work.

The bar tenders Alex and Steven were amazing in their knowledge of spirits...specifically tequila. Alex educated me on all things tequila and Steven was quick on wit and giving opinions and suggestions! We're only here for a couple days, but this place will be worthy of at least 2 and maybe 3 visits in that time!

Flight of Mezcal was interesting, fancy margaritas were delicious. Ribeye was super tender, fat turned to butter. Duck tacos were phenomenal! Tamara checked on us exactly the perfect amount! She was an excellent server with a very cool accent. Worth the money!

I’m only giving three stars based off my second experience, my first experience was fantastic. First experience I was seated at a table and ordered the goat cheese balls and some tacos, my server was fabulous and the food was perfectly seasoned. Second experience I sat at the bar, slow and inattentive service, ordered two dishes (goat cheese balls and tortilla soup) never received the cheese balls and the tortilla soup tasted like it came out of a can.

Went for a drink with a friend. Was told that something happened the night before in the kitchen so it was drinks only and complimentary chips and salsa. We ordered the spicy strawberry margarita. It sounded interesting but was the worst margaritas we have ever tasted. We told the waitress and she brought us a regular magarita and the tropical margarita. They tasted the same. Horrible. It did not taste like a margarita at all. The chips and salsa were delicious. The chips were perfectly salty and the salsa had a nice bite and garlicky taste.

Really enjoy the food, atmosphere, and service here. The bar staff always knows their drinks and tequila, the kitchen staff always does a nice job making quality Mexican food.

Staff was very friendly and not shy about dish recommendations. The drinks were great as were the shrimp and carne asada tacos. Al Pastor tacos were overloaded with pineapple-which they *should* have but it felt more like a pineapple taco. Also, taco Tuesday is no longer half off. I will add the regular menu vs taco Tuesday menu for reference. Fast service here, too.

In every way, this is easily one of the nicest restaurants in Anchorage. The space is gorgeous with a full bar with higher end cocktails you won't find anywhere else. Service unparalleled, by all staff I've encountered. With taco Tuesday (1/2 off tacos), this is the perfect place for date night or a weekly watering hole stop.

Duck carnitas OMG The tequila choices are endless and have the nice top shelf you’d expect, tops out around $68 Shot for the gran daddy of tequila. Upbeat decor and great staff, always have great service and decadent foods! Unique foods here, nothing trendy and plain here... love this place, definitely a must see and eat place in town....

Unexpected treat! I'm a former Alaskan local whose sister took me here on my last trip home and I was blown away. The Anchorage food scene needed something as tasty and with so much flare. Our server was delightful, the food fresh and flavorful and the cocktails truly unique! I would recommend this to any local looking for something new or any tourist wanting to skip the crowded tourist traps. It's a little on the pricier side for the food portion, but if you're a foodie like me, you know that good food is worth a little extra.

Excellent food and delicious margaritas! Service was great, despite the fact that they were pretty busy. I had the salmon tacos, they were excellent! The server was very knowledgeable about gluten and cross-contamination, which was awesome as well.

Warning: I do rate on a bell curve I want to love this place, but I don't exactly... If you're looking for a place with ambiance/chic and decent/good food with nice cocktail selection (like a date) then this place is a good choice. But if your primary criteria is good food at a good value, I think you might be disappointed. Almost $100 for 2 people (queso app, 2 orders of tacos (3 tacos/order), 2 margaritas, 1 beer). I was quite disappointed with the queso - I expected a bowl of dippable cheese but got a small THIN plate of cheese that cooled down quickly accompanied with corn tortillas (?) = make your own quesadilla at the table? The $5 extra chorizo was bland with little value added. I did really enjoy the duck confit tacos though! 5 stars for that - flavorful! The al pastor was good, the salsa it came with was spicy but didn't taste spectacular nor necessary. The margaritas came in a slim tall glass (I was expecting goblets from Mexican restaurants 😬) but they are small and mighty! Started feeling the alcohol after the first drink. Overall lots of variety of mixed drinks and tequila to choose from to include tequila flights

The tacos were extremely good along with the cocktails and atmosphere. I would have gladly given it a 5 stars but we came on taco Tuesday so they were half off. I do feel the food is overpriced every other day of the week. If you don't mind overpaying for tacos and cocktails then this is the place for you.

Beautiful restaurant, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The waitress was kind. Their food is okay….noticed my food needed more seasonings. It tasted bland and lacked salt. If they fix that I wouldn’t mind going back and giving them another try and upping their rating to 4 or 5 stars. But, until then I won’t be going back…not worth the money since they’re pricey.

A large party with reservations arrived when they opened at 5pm. Had to wait a bit to be seated. The Cadillac Margarita was lovely. I sampled the calamari which was tender and not rubbery like I've gotten at other restaurants. The goat cheese balls were fabulous! You have to try them for sure. I ordered the carnitas a la mexicana and received three street tacos with meat, pickled onions, and cilantro. They were tasty but a tad dry. Overall a great experience, clean establishment, and friendly staff. One drink and one entree $30+

We came here for the grilled crab and would have rated it at 4 or 5 if it were the only thing we ordered. That is to say the crab was rather good, it is opened, grilled and seasoned without overwhelming the crab or disturbing the integrity of the flavor. The drinks were also good but the Baja fish tacos were quite the disappointment, barely any fish, far too much breading, scant flavor, not sure if this was a fluke but would not be prepared to order that again The service was also good.

Located right downtown. Would recommend a reservation since seats fill up quickly. Bar seating is also available. Service was prompt. The goat cheese balls were very tasty. The cocktails we had met the descriptions and had the right amount of flavor that balances and emphasizes the alcohol flavors. The cocktail menu was extensive with loads of tequila based ones as you would expect. Main menu has a mix of heavy and light entrees. Limited dessert menu.

This was our first visit. Drinks were very good. The appetizers were delicious. The mole sauce was some of the best I have had, but it was served over a tough and dry chicken breast. That was disappointing considering the wonderful mole. The plantains were a pleasant surprise but too sparse. Your staff was wonderful and our waitress great.

Husband is a huge tequila fan and was not impressed with the variety of tequilas. He has had most of the tequilas on the menu. As for food, it was taco Tuesday so the tacos were half price. Not a bad deal when paying the sale price, but definitely not that great. The guacamole was overpriced and not very good. The Cadillac margarita was reasonably priced and tasty. We would not eat food at this spot again.

Visiting Alaska for the first time. As a Mexican, I love finding good quality places, that serve non Americanized Mexican food. This hits the spot! The ceviche and Blackened Salmon tacos were amazing! Eddie (Eddy?) Was an amazing server! Highly recommend this place.

Great cocktails, ceviche and tacos! The rice and beans have no flavor, so I wouldn't recommend those. Atmosphere is great, service is OK and pricing is what I would expect for this type of establishment. I would recommend to others.

Just had dinner with my hubby tonight, he told me many time about how great this restaurant is I am not too excited about that until I went tonight. First I was impressed with the decor, second I had very classic Margarita, tried two appetizers and main dishes and dessert, I love them because the ingredients, presentation and the excellent taste. Also thanks for the hardships to the chef, and servers, you do make customers falling in love with you. We need this good restaurant in Anchorage for sure!! Highly recommended ~

The drinks were good... the food on the other hand was... lacking. The tortilla soup tasted like tomato soup and the tacos were bland. I saw a guy literally take the salt shaker lid off and dump salt onto his tacos. I really wanted to like this place as the atmosphere is very nice.

The BEST latin food I've had in a long time, maybe ever. Better than some of the best tex mex I've had even in San Antonio, Texas. Excellent food, drinks, and amazing service. The waitress knew the menu and her recommendations extremely well. Overall very impressed and will definitely be back!!

Easily the best and most unique tequila drinks I have had. Very tasty and fresh. The food is good as well. The prices are steep, but lunch prices and happy hour are your best value. Happy hour offerings and drinks were better when they first opened, but it’s still worth stopping in. This is a place I look forward to when I pass through Anchorage.

This place is amazing! A group of 5 of us got 7 appetizers and shared them. Every single one was so delicious and had so much flavor. The cocktails are extraordinary as well, a little pricey but worth it! The spicy margarita was the best I've ever had. The decor in there is gorgeous as well, beautifully artistry. I can't wait to go back!

I'd never heard of this place before going, but the taco menu looked intriguing so we gave it a shot. The drinks were great, and the tacos were made with quality and experience in mind. We were there during happy hour, meaning the tacos were 33% off! During normal hours, the prices would be a bit steep, and even so our drinks were not cheap. But we had a good time, enjoyed a fun view of the tourists on 4th, and had some yummy tacos. We will be back, but for a special occasion, rather than as a standard meal, probably.

Made a quick stop before catching our flight out. Light but delicious meal. Fresh salmon tacos, blackened with mango, slaw and a mild sauce. Good and friendly service. Made sure we were on our way in plenty of time. Would rate higher but really didn't test their menu to see if it had any gems.

Pros: most drinks and Tacos were delicious. Great tequila selection. In my opinion to make this place worth the price go on Tuesday when the tacos are half off. Cons: Drink service was slow and expensive ~$13 each. Three of us ordered the same spicy margarita and each tasted completely different. Taco servings seemed really small for $14.

Eddie is amazing and the food is always wonderful. My girlfriend and I will bring family and friends there just to experience Eddie and we are always impressed with the food there too. The steak is wonderful and the tacos are top notch. Plus the margaritas are great, especially the tropical one.

I like this place but fair warning. My wife and I visited for mothers day. It was busy but they were able to sit us right down. The service was remarkably good and the food was also great. The one thing that stood out was a top shelf tequila that my wife wanted and knows perfectly, that when we ordered a second time was clearly not the same tequila. In other words, I'm under the impression they thought we wouldn't notice the difference but we did. Didn't smell or taste right. The waiter was adamant it was the right tequila, smelled and tasted it and continued to state it was this top shelf choice but I know it wasn't. He made it right, went to the back and apparently had it repoured for us. Came back, we tasted it, suddenly it was the right one. So go here, have a great time, enjoy yourself but be aware of the bartender tactics that saves the restaurant money- while costing you, the customer the same. Thats all.

Bomb. The staff and service was on point. Everything we ate was delicious! I would totally reccomend the Ceviche, Empanadas and Guacamole! The cocktails are tasty and I would suggest the Clase Azul Reposado for straight tequila..it was smooth and tasted like dessert.

Just get past the 10-second Tom at the host station who will literally ask your party and every other party waiting if he can help them or why they are here… after having already asked a minute ago. It’s a trip to watch his poor little brain. But other then that great place.

The food is really good. High quality. BUT...in all seriousness, I went strait to another restaurant and got food after I left here because I was still hungry. TINY portions. A full entree is the size of an appetizer. And it's not cheap. So to eat and feel slightly full you would have to order 3 or 4 dishes. I would only return for the drinks, which are strong, not the food.

Had a first good impression a couple months ago when my husband and I decided to come here for drinks one Friday night... we sat at the bar and all worked well: drinks, food and service. The atmosphere is just what I like in a place so I was very happy I went and tried on my own even with a few negative reviews here on google and yelp. This second time it was a bigger shot. I chose this place to celebrate my birthday with my friends... once again: Didn't disappoint! I'm so glad I called and made reservations here. Everyone was satisfied with their foods and our cocktails OH MY! one better than another now... can't skip talking about the service, or should I say our very own awesome server! He was FANTASTIC! Everyone left a (more than) decent tip and all we could talk about was how GREAT he was! Eddie is the guy for bigger parties or not! I'll definitely be coming back! I love this place!!! Best mexican fusion restaurant in Anchorage. If I could average going once a week I would. The staff is always friendly. The food is amazing, would recommend Jalapeno popper, calamari, goat cheese balls, guac...actually all the appetizers are great! And their carnitas tacos are my favorite with rice and beans. Margaritas are so good too. Support local!! Take care of. small businesses and order and pick up during hunker down order.

Wow, this place is just an amazing experience from just an aesthetic standpoint, a well designed art-deco style downbeat jazz lounge look to it paired with an amazing menu and cocktails that were all amazing. Staff was beyond excellent.

Food was decent. Prices of everything are pretty high in my opinion. The margarita I had contained very little alcohol which was disappointing for the price. Portions are small on the food. Seems to be a popular place, but it's nowhere I'd go back. If your a visitor this is the type of place I wouldn't recommend going.

Great margaritas, nice and light not super sugary or "pre-made" tasting like most places. Friendly staff and the tacos were delicious. I had the carnitas, they were juicy, flavorful, and the pickled onions were delish! Only thing if you're into sauces or sour cream on your tacos this did not have that but they had plenty of other options that looked great too with all that stuff! Definitely will go again!

Phenomenal food; underwhelming service by staff. My family and I went to Tequila 61 yesterday, and truly enjoyed our food. However, the service was terribly slow. The restaurant was not prepared for an unexpected Sunday night rush and it showed in their ability to keep their guests happy. It took 20 min for a waiter to take our drink orders after we were sat by the hostess. Overall, we spent around 2 hours at Tequila 61 when we had expected to spend at most 1.5 hours in the restaurant. Heavily weighed giving the restaurant three stars, but the food was too good to leave a three star review. I hope the next time I dine there, the service reflects the prices charged for the drinks and food.

We know good Mexican food and this is the place to get it in Anchorage! As Texans on vacation we were not expecting much of Tequila 61 but we were gobsmacked at the quality and authentic taste that they delivered to the table. The corn soup is as good or better than any I have had in Texas or Mexico. The service was a little slow, but they had just been slammed with 3 giant tables right before we walked in, so it's forgivable. Give this place a shot and you won't be disappointed.

I went to Tequila 61 last weekend for my bachelorette party. I was so impressed by the service and food, and my guests loved it as well! I know some restaurants can be weary about hosting a bachelorette party, but they played along with our energy and it kicked off the night! The table was ready when we came, they had a customer service approach by not getting finicky about a bunch of split checks or late guest arrivals, and everyone loved the drinks and the food! Top notch experience.

This place is great about handling allergies! Their prices are pretty high and their tacos are pretty small-- but not as small as they used to be. I still like to go for Taco Tuesday and buy two orders for the price of one. My favorite tacos are the shrimp tacos with a Jicama shell-- great for low carb diets! The wait for food is long, but the service is good. It's easy to miss from a moving car, so look for the Alaska Mint next door.

Went here after a long day on the train from Denali. The food here was quite flavorful. First reasonably spicy food I've had in Alaska. I had the salmon fish tacos and they were half (ish) off for taco Tues. Very nice flavor though not the best I've had (which were the salmon tacos I had at Deckhand Dave's in Juneau) but very good. Wife got the rockfish tacos which she liked but were a little too spicy for her (not sure what kind of peppers...maybe hatch? Not as spicy as Serrano or jalapeño even). Annoying that they charge for chips and salsa and that it isn't refillable so they lose one star from me. Room is pretty loud (gotta love metal ceilings). Service was good but slow getting us the check.

As a tourist you will reach a point where Salmon at every meal will make you crave for a change. This is the perfect restaurant for that change. We stopped by Tequila 61 on a whim for dinner and it did not disappoint. The concept seems to be modern Mexican food with a few fusion aspects. We tried the ceviche and it was wonderfully put together with the right amount of kick. We got a few tacos as well along with the chips and guac. The cocktail menu is well thought out and the drinks are imaginative while being strong. The only negative was the sweet potato chips. They were inconsistent for both our orders with some not being fried enough while other being burnt. But all in a place that could compete with the restaurants of DC and NYC.

I sat at the bar, for dinner and drinks. The spicy margarita was delicious, not too spicy. The michelada was better. The guacamole was out of this world! The only downfall was the carne asada tacos, the meat was over cooked and tough. The atmosphere was laid back and pleasant. I would give it a second chance on the tacos if I had time on my trip. And I will go back if I come back on vacation.

As a permanent Anchorage resident, I feel we have limited options for dining out and, all too often, are "forced" to go to the same restaurants every time. Tequila 61 brings a nice variety to the dining scene in Anchorage and makes you feel like you are in a trendy place somewhere out of state. The decor is creative, yet tasteful. While Tequila 61 is on a pricey side, their drinks and food are fantastic. I do agree with another reviewer: this is not traditional Mexican cuisine (nor is it trying to be); it is more of a fusion with Mexican style base. I was very happy with their tacos; I tried all three varieties: duck, pork, and beef. I was surprised to read negative reviews about them. I am not a vegan/vegetarian and typically have some sort of meat/fish with every meal, but their grilled portobello/veggie dish was filling and delicious. However, my go-to meal is the chipotle duck crepe: it is indescribably good. Last but definitely not the least, Tequila 61 bar menu has a variety of mixed drinks that are refreshing and elegantly presented. Another bonus is that since this restaurant is not well-known yet, it is easy to walk in and get a table without a reservation even on a Friday night.

While I did visit on a quiet Wednesday, the hostess invited me immediately. I usually choose to sit at the bar & engage the bartender. I ordered the Mezcaliki and it was as described. Savory pineapple w/ a sweet chilli lime rim & light mezcal. I usually order multiple appetizers. This time it was the battered/stuffed mushrooms (nice & earthy), carpaccio a la mexicana (cool, refreshing, yet beefy), and the popcorn shrimp (sweet/savory & delightful). If you are looking for a traditional Mexican restaurant, this is not it. Do not take that to mean it is bad, it is just not a traditional Mexican restaurant. I would classify this place as a higher end restaurant with a Mexican theme. We ate here for lunch so I cannot speak for the dinner menu. For lunch we had the carnitas tacos, the stuffed potato, the tortilla soup, guacamole and chips and the kids had the waffle. The waffle was tasty, almost like a churro waffle. The stuffed potato and the tacos were alright but the carnitas they used in both are marinated and cooked with oranges, which is not uncommon for meats to have citrus flavors infused, however the overpowering orange flavor in both dishes was hard to overlook. The tacos were small like street tacos, and when purchased on Taco Tuesday are probably worth the price, otherwise I would pick something else. They do not have chips and salsa that most Mexican restaurants bring to the table. When you order the chips and guacamole the chips are sweet potato chips, not tortilla. The chips are tasty but again if you're looking for traditional, you may be disappointed. Also, none of the dishes come with beans or rice. The tortilla soup was OK, more of a tomato based soup not broth. All this aside, the décor and atmosphere are great and their tequila selection is excellent. A good place to hang out with friends downtown to get drinks and snacks, not for traditional Mexican food.

Exploring 4th Avenue during Rendez we ducked in to investigate, defrost and refuel. We found the staff lively, the decor of the gastropub an appealing combination of southern farmhouse and industrial. They were out of the hot toddy so we tried their version of the Paloma and sazerac, the mezerac, with mezcal. Both the drinks were quite good and the empanadas and chicharrons were creative, fresh and flavorful. We'll definitely be back!
