Reviews of Jefferson School Apartments

I lived there with my partner for 3 years from 2019-2022, and Joelle the manager and Kip the property manager were really great. They genuinely cared about tenants, were helpful and maintenance requests were timely. I was sad to leave.
The apartments themselves are very spacious, all have a dishwasher and washer and dryer. These are some of the most affordable apartments left in the city, and some units are affordable housing (section 42).
Most of our neighbors were really great, though some were noisy. We had issues with one neighbor in particular but the management was supportive and they were evicted within a few months. The neighborhood is a little rough around the edges but we never had any issues aside from street noise, which keeping the windows shut took care of.

The manager Joelle or Joe is the best most amazing honestly caring person you could ever have for an apt manager. She takes her job very serious and does whatever she has to to provide a safe crime free drug free place for people and families to live. They are very nice apts and they are in top of fixing anything that goes wrong FAST!!!

I lived here 5 years, and despite it's somewhat questionable location, I felt safe most of the time. (I had a neighbor for a while I had to call the cops on.) I did live in a small unit, but it was beautiful. Dishwasher, garbage disposal, in unit washer and dryer, big walk in closet, patio, and nice, quiet, and always empty, workout room, none of which I had in my overpriced Sugarhouse apartment. I loved Liz, the manager, she was always very helpful, friendly, and extremely prompt with requests. (She immediately went to the neighbor in question, after I told her the story of cop calling.) I paid extra for a garage, and it was well worth it. I never once had an inspection I want made aware of. My fees were never changed arbitrarily, they only changed with lease renewal, which is the norm. I'd never have moved out, if they allowed pets in my unit, as my then fiance had one. Unfortunately, I had to move to his crappy complex!

Maintenance is great. They fix things in a timely manner and as always, do great quality work.
Jo has made me feel welcome here. I believe that they are really turning the place around. They have been working on parking which is something that I've been asking for them to do. Yesterday I saw them winterizing the pool. The first night it snowed maintenance was here late putting ice melt down to make sure no one was hurt, unlike other apartments that I've lived in. I really love these apartments are great!

Jefferson School Apartments is a great place to live. Liz the property manager is always responsive and helpful. Maintenance is quick to respond to requests. Covered parking is really great. The place is clean and quiet. The gym is great and having a washer dryer in your apartment is wonderful. I have been here for over two years.

Single bedroom apartments are in good condition. Maintenance is fairly quick about responding to issues. Dumpster divers destroy the enclosed garbage areas so they're pretty disgusting. Neighbors are fairly nice.
If you're balcony is facing the Strong Volkswagen dealership, you're in for a bad time. You will be woken up to car alarms. If you have the work from home option, you can't concentrate on your work due to the car alarms. If you want to sleep in, can't do it due to car alarms. Complaints to both the dealership and the city fall on deaf ears. I know Liz, the property manager, called on our behalf numerous times. It is obvious she was ignored.
So not a bad place overall but if you're facing the car dealership, it's going to suck. Often.

I just paid the rent the start of my 7th month here. The venue is beautiful and well maintained. The apartments are comfortable without a lot of wasted space. The parking requires a talent for creative thinking as there is limited space on site, although there is ample room on the street; and, for $50 a month you can have your own, single car garage which works well unless you opted for the biggest vehicle on the dealership lot! Finally, the staff: friendly, responsive, knowledgeable. In six months I've had three "issues" which were all handled within 24 hours of the office being notified. Thanks to Liz and her staff. Yes, there is a negative: not a lot of storage space, either closets or kitchen. Again: be creative. This is your home, make it work. I've read the prior comments and have to say that, while this complex isn't perfect it IS a microcosm of life: you get out what you put in. Yes, there are noisy neighbors - human beings are a noisy bunch and, these days, "courtesy" seems to have dropped out of the language and the attitude. The front doors are spring-loaded, they slam. Children are loud, the parents say nothing, even at 10:30 at night. The young people and teenagers ARE a part of a gang: a gang of youths who attend Jefferson School and the magnet classes a block south. Jefferson School Apartments is a neighborhood. Don't like it? Be a better neighbor.
By the way: if you don't HAVE a car we are between the 900 South and 1300 South stations on the Light Rail. The 1300th Street station - Ballpark - is a Park'n'Ride and is a transfer point between all three trains (Red, Blue, Green) and a bus line.
07/14/2016 - Thank you, William, for fixing my toilet and putting up my curtain rod. Those were the last two things I really wanted done. You were efficient, polite and Very Helpful. I appreciate your service.

I'm going on my third year living here now and I have to admit that my perception of this place has changed since the first year. When I first moved in, the experience was perfect, especially because I moved over from City Park Apartments (which is an absolute HORRIBLE place to live).
The apartments are kept in very good condition, with all of my upholstery looking almost brand-new. I barely found any problems with my apartment and even then, they had already told me of the pre-existing issues that were there. We were lucky to qualify for the income-based discount so we pay a little bit less on rent that everyone else.
In the beginning, any concerns I had were quickly addressed by the leasing management. However, over time, that great customer service started to fade away. Let me state some examples. Last year, my dryer stopped exerting heat and it takes almost half a day for the machine to dry the clothes. I asked the management to fix it and one of the leasing managers told me to simply lighten my laundry load. I just deal with the problem now instead of trying to bug them over and over again about the same issue. Also, months ago, the porch light in front of my door went out so it was a little difficult coming home at night because I couldn't see where my key was going. I called the leasing office to fix the problem, but it was never fixed. I eventually had to call a second time to remind them. We'll see if anyone will come.
That's not the biggest complaint I have about this complex though. The walls that were built into the apartments are very thin, so it's very easy to hear your neighbors talking or walking around. In the beginning, I didn't have that issue because I was lucky enough to have sensible neighbors who were never loud. However, within the last year, I've had two different families with children move in next to me and below me. The family that lives next to me aren't as bad as the family below me. They blasted their music at night during the weekdays and I had to personally knock on their door to remind them people actually need to sleep because they have work in the morning. But the worst part about this family is the dad ALWAYS has to yell at his children early in the morning, as if he's rushing them to get ready for school. I can't count how many times my sleep's been disturbed because the dad think it's okay to scream at 7 in the morning. I always knew when they were coming home because their children always has to STOMP on every single step when they go up the stairs. This family's assigned parking spot is also right next to mine and I've found a couple of dinks and dents on my car since they've moved in, which I suspect is from their children recklessly opening the door and letting it hit my vehicle.
My point is, I've addressed these issues regarding my neighbors to the leasing managers. I don't know if they've actually talked to them or gave them warnings. But nothing has changed and all I can do is deal with it until my lease is over. The first two years that I lived there was great, but I don't know what's happened within the last year. Whatever it is, it's enough to make me guarantee that I will not be renewing my lease next year. The units are beautiful but I'm at that point where dealing with unresponsive management is unacceptable.

The apartments are beautiful inside and out. Jo was very helpful getting me into an adorable and spacious one bedroom. I'm very happy.

Under the new management, I see really good improvements. The apartment area is clean, they are fast in response over complaints. If they keep up this good work, this place will be great to live.
