Paul from Athena Care has done a few projects for us this past few months. He's been absolutely terrific to work with. He pays attention and is absolutely concerned with what's best, and provides the most value, for his customer long-term. You immediately know you can trust Paul with your home, as he is personable and obviously completely honest and hard-working. Working with Paul is like having a good friend as a master plumber helping you fix your house! My wife and I will only call Paul when we have plumbing projects.

During the cold snap, our shower would not drain and I tried everything to fix it (snake, plunger, all the tools I had). I called Paul who I'm sure was extremely busy with other problems. Paul communicated very well when he would be by, was extremely professional, straight forward, and had amazing rates. You can tell that he takes pride in his work and tries to make a difference for people. Paul was new to us when he came to fix a burst pipe in our basement. He came highly recommended on Next Door. He was terrific! Not only did he fix the problem, he also worked with us on preventing the issue from happening again. He installed an outdoor spigot that was far superior to the one we had. He offered to replace it with the same one or do the upgrade - our choice. We chose the slightly more option and it works so much better. Update - Just used Athena Care again for a blown irrigation shut off valve. This had been a hard problem to figure out what had caused the issue to begin with and Paul tracked it down to a valve inside the house. He is always professional, quick, and uses high quality parts. Old review: I have been using Athena Care for twenty years. Paul is a plumber who knows his trade and gets the job done right. He also will give solid advice and share solutions that don’t require his home visit if that is an option. I recommend him highly.

Paul is not only a great plumber, but also a nice person. I originally met him when he repaired plumbing at a duplex I used to rent. He did all the plumbing repairs for my prior landlords. When I bought my own home and ran into some problems, I knew I was going to call Paul at Athena. He was always so helpful and considerate at my old rental. I had a shower drain repair gone bad and called Paul. He offered to alter his plans a bit and come that very same day. That didn't work due to my work schedule, so we scheduled in the very near future when it worked for both of us. He came out and was able to remove a piece of PVC that was trapped inside a cast iron fitting in a very tight space. He then offered to finish putting the drain assembly back together. He also sold me this cool "water alarm" which is similar to a fire alarm, so I could tell is there were future leaks in this hidden area. He did this all at a very fair, competitive price. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again for any plumbing needs!

Our water heater failed a few days before we were scheduled to have family staying with us over Thanksgiving last year. I called Athena Care and Paul was able to get me in the schedule right away. It was not a simple job, several things weren't up to code and there was also an issue with a gas valve that required someone from Centerpoint to come out. Paul was great and helped us handle the situation with the gas company in a way that I doubt many other plumbers would have done. In the end the whole situation was resolved before my relatives arrived. Additionally the quality of his work was top notch (I have since had it inspected and they commented on how nice the installation and pipe welds were) and he was punctual, quick, friendly, honest and reasonably priced. Truly not much else you could ask for in a plumber and I highly recommend his services. I rarely write reviews but felt this was not only earned but necessary; thanks again Paul! (And sorry for not getting this review up sooner!)

I had a plumbing emergency on a Friday and Paul arrived as promised, in the early afternoon. I am partially disabled and the only shower I can access was now useless. My apprehension was that I was at a plumber’s mercy for cost not only due to the urgency, but also because of my choices; I didn’t trust the bigger companies. Being mostly bedridden, it's easy to feel vulnerable to dishonest tradesmen and feel like I am an easy mark to take advantage of. The extensive information on his web site helped convince me I was going to be in good hands. An understatement. Paul was very straight forward in his evaluation of the problem and his description of what he needed to do to fix the problem. Imagine my relief and surprise when he handed me the bill for a fraction of the cost I had agreed to at the start of work, because he found an easier way to solve my problem. It is hard to imagine me finding any other plumber with this level of integrity. I really can't recommend Paul and Athena Care any stronger and encourage all to engage him with total confidence. We had a great experience with Paul and would highly recommend him to anyone needing plumbing services! We were out of town for the weekend when my daughter called to say there was water on the basement floor that appeared to be coming from the water heater. I sent a photo to Paul (on a Sunday) and read through his website about water heater leaks. With the information I learned from his website and texting back and forth with Paul, we were able to determine the true cause of the water (the condenser pump from the air conditioner, not the water heater) and were able to quickly fix the problem on our own. Paul followed up with us to make sure everything was OK and we didn't even need to schedule a visit. We will most definitely use him again the next time (and there's always a next time) we need plumbing work done!

I am a repeat Athena customer because Paul knows what he's doing, helps me problem solve first (he has had me fix quick fixes over the phone to save him coming over and save me money and I see in other reviews he's done that for others too); and is always fair and honest. If he says something needs doing, it needs doing, he is not up-selling or sneaking in extra charges. He talks me through everything he does and why. All the work he's done for me (three separate houses and 2 businesses) are done right the first time, and he can identify preventative options too. Today he recommending hiring a guy with a camera to look at my pipes, and boy am I glad I did! The pipe to the street was FULL of roots - a problem just waiting to happen. It was much better to do this preventatively than waiting for the problem to occur. I really think his advice like this has saved me money and future issues on several occasions. I enjoy Paul's sense of humor, don't find him to be abrupt like the 1 star reviews say. Efficient, to the point not abrupt. BUT - I'd be happy with a curmudgeonly plumber if he was as thorough, honest and efficient as Paul.

I've hired Paul for several jobs and really enjoy working with him. Most recently he replaced a water heater for me. Paul is extremely prompt and responsive. I called him on a Thursday morning after the water heater died and he had the new one installed by 10:30 am the following day. Paul is a straight shooter and really knows his stuff. He holds himself to a very high standard in terms of the quality of his work and the materials/products he uses. As a result, he might not be the cheapest bid you get, but you generally get what you pay for.

I've called Paul to come out several times to my home for minor plumbing issues. Recently, I had him come out to fix a minor gas leak. What I really appreciate is how Paul tells me up front what the estimated cost will be for the job. This time, the minor gas leak turned out to take much longer than he anticipated, and he still stayed within the initial amount he quoted me. Not only that, he went above and beyond to help save me some costs on another problem at the same visit. He's a great guy, I knew that the first time I met him and why I immediately called him again. I think because I'm a loyal customer, he will always go above and beyond and will continue to provide me with not only excellent service at fair prices, but information on how to save money with fixes I can do myself.

I don't live in town and have to drive in quite a ways to deal with any house problems. Our new house had some left over plumbing issues. Paul at Athena Care had a good rating and is located in our area. how lucky for me. Called Athena Care because that's what came up in a google search with my area and plumber in the search field. Paul came the next day, explained to me the potential costs, the situation, and fixed the drain very quickly, he even went as far as replacing the gaskets and aerator around the sink at no extra cost. My husband and I were amazed with Paul's integrity and helpfulness. Our job was pretty unique as a leaking pipe under the basement floor and there was no way to know beforehand how involved the repair would be. As it happened a long run of pipe had to be replaced not just a small area as we had hoped. I contacted Paul for several plumbing issues. The first being a leak in the shower. Before proceeding with anything he advised me to follow his tips to diagnose the problem. Turned out to be a gap in the caulking which did not require a plumber. $$$ saved and problem solved, who wouldn't appreciate that? I did need to have a drain pop up replaced - no I did not know what it was called, but sent Paul a picture and he explained it. Paul did a great job replacing it. He even noticed a minor toilet problem and took care of it as well. All was done within the estimate given. I would highly recommend Paul. Take his advice, he definitely knows what he is doing and will help to solve your problem in the most effective way.

I can't say enough good things about Paul! I live in a S Mpls house, built in 1923, and the plumbing is original. The Monday of Thanksgiving week, I came downstairs to discover that I had water all over the kitchen (which is directly below my one and only bathroom). I remembered that my parents had recommended Paul to me and I called him immediately. He answered his phone (this was around 7:00AM), talked me through the scenario, and although he had a full schedule that day, he moved things around to make time for me. He was quick, efficient and completely respectful of my old house (I have found in the past seven years that there are many service professionals who do not know how to treat an old house well.) Paul reset my toilet, which had become more and more wobbly over the last month, and billed me more than fairly. Unfortunately, I woke up the next morning to another soaking wet kitchen. Although the toilet had desperately needed resetting, the real culprit of the wet kitchen was my SHOWER. A frantic text message to Paul elicited another quick response and before long he arrived, along with a second plumber whom he sometimes calls for 2-person jobs (who was also amazing and friendly), they determined the issue, fixed it very quickly and two days before Thanksgiving, I had a fully operational bathroom and no more wet kitchen. There had been a small erosion in the shower's waste water pipe that was allowing the bath water to flow freely out of the back of the tub's plumbing (it's an antique pedestal tub with some of the hardware above-floor), across the floor to a small gap in the edge where it meets the molding, and straight down the wall into the kitchen and further into the basement. Long story short (too late!), it's been a month and everything has worked perfectly. When my old house decides to have another issue, I will not hesitate to call Paul immediately. He is honest and fair. He tells you exactly what he thinks instead of wasting your time telling you what you may want to hear (refreshing!) I found his billing to be affordable and more than fair. He's speedy with a diagnosis and gets right down to business--no time wasted. And on top of all that, he's a super-decent guy, SMART, he TEXTS (which is awesome!), fun to talk to and, I have to say, honorable--a quality that is hard to come by these days. I trust Paul and would recommend him completely (and I have!)

Paul came to my house for an issue with my toilet. After helping diagnose a myriad of issues we had, we came to find out the cause was my kids flushed a hand towel (a fix I could make myself). Paul has provided excellent plumbing services for our household for nearly a dozen years. Last week he installed: 1. A new toilet for us in our upstairs bathroom. This is the same toilet Paul installed in our kitchen bathroom and has provided us with great service. 2. A water alarm ($35) under our tub drain to detect any leakage before it led to big problems. This was correcting a leak in plumbing work done by a a handyman. 3. And finally, rectified a leaky outdoor faucet hosebib with a shut off valve extension. I had a kitchen sink leaking into the basement and outside along the foundation. My house was built in 1940 and the pipe in question was inside the wall. I blindly searched for plumbers in the area dreading the experience as related to unknown cost etc. Upon reading reviews and taking to friends I decided to try Athenacare. Paul was frank and to the point with an over the phone assessment. He fit me into his schedule, showed up exactly on-time, and proceeded to tear into the issue. After a few hours of work, the offending pipe was replaced, and the issue fixed for good. Paul was consistently conscious of cost, kept me informed of every step, and completed the job expeditiously. The end result was a kitchen drain pipe replacement including the "T" on the ventilation stack and a drain that has never functioned so well since I bought the place 7 years ago. Paul set expectations, then beat them, for a concise delivery of Customer Satisfaction at a very reasonable price!
