Easily my favorite gym/personal trainer experience. I reached out to Whole Body Fitness before relocating to Portland, Tiffany called me back soon after, and it was an excellent conversation. She asked about my goals, gave me thoughtful and helpful responses, and, a few weeks later, I was in the gym. After evaluating my goals, she paired me with Brandon as my PT. I can't speak highly enough of my sessions with Brandon. He's incredibly knowledgable, insightful, and an excellent PT and teacher. I told him early on I wanted a solid foundation to make sure I performed each exercise correctly, and he got it; he always made time to explain why each movement should be performed a certain way and how it related to other, more advanced movements. He'll push you, but he's not pushy. It felt great to make noticeable progress during my time there. I plan on booking more sessions with Brandon in a few months. I highly recommend Whole Body Fitness, especially if you're looking to build a strong foundation.

Whole Body Fitness rocks!! I've been working out with Jim and Tammie, the owners of Whole Body Fitness, for years now. They are extremely knowledgeable and have many years of training experience behind them. Our workouts are goal-oriented, individualized, energetic and fun, and Jim is continually providing great advice and motivation to push me to the next level. Additionally, they are able to provide expert nutritional advice, which is the key to success when it comes to diet and exercise. I can't recommend this awesome studio gym enough.

Hands down this place is the best! I've never been a gym person and I was skeptical to join. I'm so glad I did. I decided about 1 year and half ago to make some major shifts in my life, and getting myself to a healthy me was my number 1! I was paired up with Tiffany and I'm so glad that we met. She literally changed my life. She is so kind and fun and pushes you to do things you had no idea your body could! I saw a transformation and I was hooked. She is so encouraging without ever being pushy. She listens to what your goals are and is dedicated to helping you get there. There is zero judgement on her part, i always felt supported by her. I've been working out at Whole Body Fitness for almost two months. It's been a great experience for me so far. I had been pretty inactive for awhile and this was my first experience with a personal trainer. I really wanted to find someone that could give me personal attention and teach me to do things properly and I have found that here. I work mainly with James and and he is very knowledgeable and experienced and efficient. He works me very hard but is also encouraging. He also gave me some great nutrition information that has been very helpful and easy to use. I've already lost weight and gained some muscle and am looking forward to my continued progress. I've also had a session each with Tammie, Juniper, and Martin, and they were great to work with as well. I recommend this place if you want to get fit!

Tammie and James have both done a fantastic job helping me lay the groundwork for a healthier and more active lifestyle. Not only have they begun to teach me how to better utilize my workouts, food journaling and menu planing but they have been able to teach me why they have me working on what they do. Finally, Tammie and James are both easy to get along with. Amazing! I After years of injuries and bad habits my body was in pretty bad shape. I experienced pain every day from old scar tissue, joint instability, incorrect movement patterns, tendinitis, and severe neck pain. After working at Whole Body Fitness for over a year I can say that I have improved 100%. Not only have my injuries gone away but I have now moved past rehab into intense strength training! They truly understand how the body works and know exactly how to cater to what you as an individual need on any given day. The work never stops! I am always pushed to work harder and to keep improving. James and Tammie are wonderful people and really understand what it means to run a business. I've been training at Whole Body Fitness since early 2013. A the time of writing this, in Fall 2014, I'm the fittest I've ever been in my (soon to be) thirty-eight years. I'm very happy about this.
I had neglected my physical fitness for almost a decade and I was staring to see and feel it. I had never tried personal training before, but based on past experience, I knew that to make a long-term positive change in my fitness, I should seriously consider this option. When I first showed up, I discussed my goals with James, and he set me up with Brett as a personal trainer. Brett paid keen attention to my history and goals. At the time he left Portland, a year later, I was very happy with my increased fitness and confidence in my physical abilities. Brett and I also became friends.
When Brett left, Tammie transitioned me over to Martin who was just starting there. At first I wasn't sure of this transition, as Martin's style differed from that of Brett's, but over the next few weeks I came to appreciate Martin's style of personal training. He too, paid keen attention to where I was coming from and what my goals were. I highly recommend him.
When Brett or Martin weren't available occasionally, I trained with Tammie and Juniper. Those sessions were also great. I consider everyone at Whole Body Fitness to be very professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. Now, as I head out of Portland for extended travel, I'll miss training at Whole Body Fitness, but I expect that the habits and knowledge I've gained will support my fitness goals wherever I go.

I just started going to Whole Body Fitness two weeks ago and am excited and happy with my experience so far. I was looking for a trainer who would really listen to what I needed and empower me to own the lifestyle. This gym is really close to my house so I thought that would be a good start at making a sustainable routine. The gym is simple and private and Tammie has been incredible. She lets me know why I'm doing certain workouts, and built me a plan for when I travel, as well as coaches my running. The workouts kick my butt which I love, and she even took the time to make sure I knew how to use the foam roller. I decided to see James about nutrition and it was a perfect compliment. He spent much of the time educating since this isn't just about following directions but about making smart decisions. Friending Tammy on myfitnesspal put it over the top that these guys are invested in helping people be healthy. I feel like I'm on a great path for success and love the team coach approach at WBF. I have been working out at Whole Body Fitness for a few months now, and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience so far. I think the idea of working out with a trainer can be a little intimidating at first, but Tammie and James make you feel very welcome. Not only will your body change, but so will your view on exercise and movement in general. I highly recommend taking a nutrition class, too - so much to learn. They make each session interesting and I always walk away feeling as though I've learned something new. Sure, personal training isn't necessarily cheap, but it's an investment in your overall health happiness. I have been fortunate to train with James, Tammy & Brent at Whole Body fitness and love them all.
I started with James, going back to Nutrition counseling. Sometimes we forget those basic principles, that are essential to understanding how your body works and why! It was great to go back and re-learn what what preventing me from seeing the results I wanted.
Then, I layered on the strength, weight and HIIT training. We always changed it up & they kept it challenging. I always like to say, if I am not sore in the morning, there's something wrong. I never EVER felt like that with them. They knew just how to kick my butt.
I would highly recommend them to those in need of just a kick start or want something more.
For those on the fence with Personal Training but really want results... I say, its WORTH the investment. You need accountability and to know that you'll at least get a really good butt kicking once a week :)

A five-star shout out to for Jeremy at Whole Body Fitness! I have been training with Jeremy at WBF now for 5 months and he is quite simply “THE BEST”. He has a great understanding of how the body works and how to get the best performance out of you. No “cookie cutter” exercise programs where you feel you are just “going through the motions”. Jeremy’s training style is functional fitness (though he does all kinds of training). The sessions are always different, evolving, and specific to your goals. I love coming to WBF! I was having a lot of trouble getting motivated to get bak in shape and lose weight, over 2 years after having a baby. Tammie and James have really helped me get into gear and I have seen so much improvement already. I selected WBF as they were recommended through one of my running group forums. After 4 months, I’ve dropped weight, gained strength and am running faster than ever. I've been training at Whole Body Fitness for the last 3 months. I'm not a gym goer, and because of my complicated back and neck issues, I knew I needed a personal trainer. I've been mostly working with James, who has been awesome. Our workouts are fun, challenging, and most importantly target the areas I need to work on.
James is extremely knowledgable and has tailored every work out to help me meet my goals. I've been working with him twice a week, for 1hr sessions. He is a great motivator, pushes me in the right direction, and keeps me accountable. He also does nutritional counseling and really sticks to the motto "whole body" fitness.

My experience training with Martin at WBF has been awesome. I have been working with him for 6 months and it is STILL NOT BORING. The workouts are challenging and intentional and focused on my goals. I wanted to lose a ton of weight and I have and I wanted to be strong enough to run without injury and I am now a runner again after ten years on the couch. When my weight loss slowed down a couple times, Tammie really helped me with some ideas to get back on board and stay nourished all day eating healthy food. I'm very satisfied with the support at WBF and the results. I'm much happier and all of a sudden 45 is feeling young instead of old. I'd also say that as an introvert I find most gym settings pretty overwhelming and I like that at WBF I just get focused, contained support without having to deal with a lot of people around me.

James and Tammy are both very knowledgeable and personable trainers - as are the other folks they have on staff. I appreciate that they take a no-nonsense, but realistic approach to health and fitness that combines exercise, nutrition counselling and measuring progress using body composition (not just weight). The workouts I've had seem to fly by because the WBF trainers change up the program constantly and incorporate a variety of equipment/techniques. As someone who is admittedly 'gym phobic', I've found the culture at WBF to be supportive and friendly. This is definitely the place to go if you want to make a real investment in your long-term health and well being.

Tammie, James and the WBF team are focused on helping you help yourself as well as kicking your a** into shape with tailored, challenging, results-focused workouts. I'm a believer in positive change - Tammie is helping me to further understand the complexities of the mind/body connection and how to reach my goals, even at middle age. She is appropriately considerate of my individual concerns each time we have a session. And if that isn't enough, I also love that the team continues to educate themselves. I am a skeptic of any newfangled knowledge, so knowing that the teachings are thoughtful and well-rounded is extremely important to me. This team will whip you into shape as well as give you tools to continue to stay health-minded for the long term.

Now that my first 24 session package is coming to an end I wanted to share my experience at Whole Body Fitness.
I honestly didn't know what to expect when I first met with James. Starting out as a 200 pound, 43 year old man that hasn’t consistently worked out since high school I didn’t know what to expect when considering a personal trainer. Like many people, I’ve tried the standard gym membership, but never really knew what I was doing and never really saw any change. Even though I felt like I needed a personal trainer, I didn't know if I'd sign up when coming in for my consultation and even after I did sign up, I questioned myself. Is this going to be a another version of my standard gym experience?
I started working with James to get my nutrition on track. We talked about my fitness goals, and planned how to achieve those goals. James took the mystery out of the whole process. He explained nutrition and how my body uses what I eat. Something I’d never considered before.
Early in my sessions, James had me start working with Bekah who I can't say enough good things about! If before starting at WBF I had to describe my expectations for an ideal personal training experience, Bekah would easily exceed all of them. She’s thoughtful and fun to work with, easy to get along with, she challenges me every time we work together and she keeps the workouts interesting. Her encouragement motivates me to push harder than I think I can. She has made a daily impact on my life. Work hard, lose weight, gain muscle, sweat a lot, breath, create new habits and have patience because change doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen.
Anyway, all of this to say that after 24 sessions I'm seeing and feeling the changes I was looking for. I'm looking forward to my next 24 sessions, and for any hesitation I had starting with WBF, continuing with them stopped being a question for me a long time ago. Thank you James, Tammie and Bekah!

Two words: LIFE CHANGING! I was an extremely overweight soccer mom running a small business. My sedentary yet busy life had me gaining more and more weight each year with no time to even think of a way to change. By 4PM each day I was wiped out. One of my clients was a Whole Body Fitness devotee and I marveled at her energy, glow, and just overall health. I felt that I was too far gone but to my surprise she had WBF reach out to me for a free consultation. That was the beginning of WBF helping me dig myself out of the pit I had created. I am also LOVING their WEIGHT SOLUTIONS program. I meet with James once a week for maximum accountability (hey, I need it that way!). His knowledge of the human body and nutrition is unbelievable. I have learned so much from him. Best of all, I'm losing weight every week! I don't know who gets happier - him or me when I weigh in. We are doing things safely, little by little, and it feels very manageable. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. It's never too late to invest in yourself. I've been going to WBF for over 2 years now, doing both personal training and classes, and I can wholeheartedly recommend both. All the trainers are friendly and accommodating but will definitely push you and give you a workout that's worth the money. The kickboxing class is a great mixture of conditioning and skills training, and since it meets three times a week it's an excellent way to keep active on a regular schedule. Since you can try a personal training session or a class session for free, there's really no excuse for not checking it out. I can guarantee you'll love it.

I never thought I would work with a personal trainer. I thought it was too self indulgent, too expensive and unnecessary. Something shifted when I read an article about the philosophy at WBF in the Laurelhurst Living magazine. What captured me was an emphasis on functional strength and balance. Since recovering from breast cancer, I was aware that I had lost a lot of my strength and balance and it concerned me. Still, I was skeptical when I called WBF to schedule an informational session. I was still unsure when I signed up and committed to 24 sessions. I even had buyer’s remorse until I had my first session with my personal trainer, Jeremy. Our first session together, and every session since has been informative and challenging.
Jeremy is impressively knowledgeable about how the human body works and how to gain strength and correct imbalances. He is well read, passionate and enthusiastic. I trust the exercises he chooses for me to strengthen the areas I am the weakest. I feel safe trying new exercises with Jeremy right beside me making sure my form is correct, that I am not going to hurt my spine (due to severe osteoporosis). I am already feeling stronger, more energetic and excited to continue with Jeremy and WBF.

After just twelve sessions at Whole Body Fitness (WBF) over eight weeks, I feel great and am stronger than I've been in years.
