I am new to strength training. Following physical therapy for a broken ankle, Steel Strength Training was recommended to me as a place to learn how to do strength training safely. From my first contact with Nate, I have felt comfortable and welcomed. Nate took time to answer my questions and explain the program. When I started in the gym Nate, Scout, and the other trainers offered great instruction, encouragement, and supervision. I am one month in and feel great. I enjoy the balance of individual attention and group camaraderie that the open space allows. I also appreciate that the staff offer accountability for the schedule I set and the goals that I am trying to reach. I am stronger, have improved range of motion, and am slimmer. Most importantly I feel great and getting stronger in the gym has helped me to better enjoy my other activities outside of the gym. I am glad I joined Steel Strength Training, and recommend it to anyone wanting to get stronger and healthier.

I joined Steel strength on recommendation of a dear friend. Through the pandemic I had gained alot of weight and used to feel horrible with my body aching and hurting on most days especially in the lower back region after an incident I had many years ago. Nate has been a God sent, very attentive and knowledgeable and very helpful throughout the journey of 4 months there. I have lost 10 lbs while continued to gain muscle strength and able to lift amounts I never thought I could. Throughout our lives, we have moments that truly change the way we live and for me this was one of them. Although I had to leave the city but Steel has set me on a path that continues to to be an essential part of my daily life.

Best gym experience I’ve ever had.
I have been in and out of gyms for the past few years. I was never able to stick with it long enough to produce results. I submitted a form on the website and honestly expected to try it and probably quit again. Nate called me and talked through my personal goals and how he would work with me to achieve them. Before I even stepped in the gym Nate was holding me accountable and pushing me in the right direction.
The staff is great and is very knowledgeable and personable. The workouts are catered to each individual. if you are having any issues in the gym they won’t downplay it. They will work with you to fix the issue or work around it while still making progress.
The structure of the classes is exactly what i was looking for. I go to sessions with up to 8 clients working out at the time and it’s a great number. Initially, I was worried that I would feel like I was on my own, but that could not be farther from the truth. I still feel as though i’m in a 1 on 1 with a trainer. They are very attentive and really want to see you succeed. And if 8 still feels like too many people for you, there are other options.
On top of the workouts Nate and the staff will help you with sustainable nutrition goals to help you even more. They are also very good about keeping in communication to check on you. You will immediately feel welcomed and wanted here and that has been the difference for me.
In just a month i’ve seen a tremendous shift in the way I look and feel. This place is great and I would recommend it to anyone. Regardless of your age or experience you will succeed at Steel Strength Training. If you’re looking for positive changes and a great community this is the spot.

Best gym I’ve ever been to! I started about a month ago feeling completely out of shape with a history of starting new programs with a lot of determination only to quickly lose interest or start feeling discouraged and so quit. But the Steel programs meets you exactly where you are. My first workouts were challenging but not defeating, and all of the trainers are so helpful and encouraging. Definitely a no-judgement attitude from everyone. After a month, I am still going regularly because I actually look forward to going to work out. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I met the awesome owner, Nate, through a small group with his wife. He is knowledgeable about health, fitness, and nutrition. The gym’s primary focus is strength training vs. HIIT/cardio (as you could probably tell by the name). As someone who has struggled with body image, disordered eating, and gym intimidation, a gym being able to make me feel comfortable and included is a BIG thing. The trainers (& other members) know you by name and are real normal people! The location has moved to an awesome/beautiful space near Pepper Place as well. I’ve been at Steel for over a year now and am very satisfied with my experience. If you’ve been looking for a place to call your fitness home, I cannot recommend enough!

I love my gym! Still seems crazy for me to be saying that. I am 56 years old and have always hated exercising. Therefore, I've never done it consistently. I went to Steel with a friend and it was great! I've been going for two years now 3 times a week. It makes me feel proud and strong. I have more energy. It has improved my balance and given me motivation to lose weight. The trainers are skilled and very helpful in pushing you to do your best while also providing needed modifications depending on your specific situation. We have moved to a new, larger location, so there will be plenty of room for you. Now is a great time to check it out. You're worth it!

I can’t say enough about this gym! I’ve been coming here for about 1 1/2 years now and everything is above and beyond. The staff is amazing…. Very knowledgeable, professional and always there to assist. The gym is clean and the equipment is well maintained. There is also a great variety of Clientele. The atmosphere is always upbeat and never pretentious or demeaning. It’s a very comfortable but challenging and a stressless way to work out.

I love going to Steel Strength Training to workout. It is a friendly, family oriented atmosphere. The personal trainers are all great. All of them know my name, and that makes me feel really special. They are going to make sure that you are doing your reps correctly and, if they see that you are struggling, they will gladly help you. When I missed a few workouts, the owner, Nate personally reached out to me to check on me and encouraged me to get back on track. l needed that push. Steel Strength is a great gym to join if you want to get into shape but don't know where to start. I was very athletic growing up but found myself nearing 30 and not being happy with my overall health. Larger gyms and group classes intimidated me but I needed the structure as I didn't have the ability to create well rounded workouts for myself. That is exactly what Steel provides! Every day is a new workout that you can modify and take at your own pace. The trainers are very hands on to make sure you're performing the exercises properly to prevent injuries and to push you when they see you can do more! Steel has revived my atheltic nature and renewed my confidence!

I was starting over when I joined Steel Strength Training(SST) over a year ago. I lacked discipline, motivation and endurance, just to name a few things!
My first stumbling block to conquer was my lack of knowledge/familiarity of gym terminology like ‘rows’, inverted rows’, and ‘pull-aparts’. There were ‘barbells’, ‘kettlebells’, ‘dumbbells’ and ‘bands’. Then there was ‘form’! Thanks to Steel’s professional and dedicated trainers, I’ve learned so much and have made great progress in my strength training! I’m 67 years old and am now at DL(deadlifting) 135 pounds!!! I began at 35. The staff is positive, always encouraging and pushing me to work hard. I am sooo motivated, so much stronger and able to complete each workout session!
If you are looking for a gym where you can get professional training, lots of support and positive feedback from staff and gym members, Steel Strength Training is the place!

As someone who is shy, unathletic and hesitant to try new things, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have found this place. One big advantage over the other gyms that I have tried is the way they structure the "classes". Instead of everyone doing the same thing at the same time, each person has a specific workout written out for them, that they take to their own station and perform at their own speed. There's no holding the class up because you don't know what an RDL is, there's no trying to figure out what a beginner variation of a pull up is while everyone else is cranking them out like Navy SEALs, there's no pressure. And more importantly, there's time to learn how to do things correctly. That's where the coaches come in. I continue to be impressed with the staff, they manage to be attentive and encouraging without being overbearing or disinterested. No one at this place has the vibe of a drill sergeant or motivational speaker, neither of which I personally find motivating. They're just down to earth, nice, knowledgeable people who want to see you succeed. Last point I'll make in this novella, if you want to see changes in your body, weight training is a great, if not the best way to do it because it rewards consistency in a way that I think a lot of other types of training do not. While you are waiting impatiently for the lbs to drop and the 6 pack to emerge, you get to see the weight go up really quickly so you can know that its working, things are changing, and you are making progress. Having that constant reassurance that you are moving forward makes the consistency much easier, and as everyone knows, consistency is everything. So give it a try, and try it here!
Also there's very little cardio, and cardio sucks.

I enrolled with Steel Strength Training at the recommendation of a longtime friend. We had talked often about doing something to improve our current weight status. We decided to join and it has been the BEST decision ever for me. I'm in at eight weeks and I feel fantastic! I wake up on training days so excited about what my opportunities for the day will be to improve my body and mind. Nate is patient, attentive to everyone's needs and an encourager. Not once have I left the gym feeling discouraged or defeated. He is cheerful, good natured, honest, professional and sensitive to the needs of his clients. It's hard work, but it's well worth it! I set a goal and I am well on my way. I'm not in for a quick fix but for a real life changing experience and I believe that Nate Johnson is there to assist me on this new and exciting journey. Nate Johnson is a really nice guy. He's always sending great information on ways to lose weight the right way and motivating me to continue to strive to be a better and much healthier me. I haven't been able to make it to any of his workout sessions but I must say despite that fact he continues to work with me no matter what. He also does different special offers and things like that which could come in handy for those who aren't financially able to go all of the time. Check him out even if you only subscribe to his email group, he'll eventually reel you in.

I've had many challenges with my weight and general eating habits probably for all of my adult life. And I've tried just about every program you can think of. I was bored and surfing Facebook one weekend in August when I came across SST. I spoke with Nate Johnson that Monday morning and after hearing his story and the passion he has for what he does I had to join. I've been going consistently (3) days a week since August.
