THE LIVING THEATRE'S First Theatre Location. This is where the living theater Had its first reel theater space! The Cherry Lane Theatre location helped to increase the popularity and awareness of the Living theater. The living theater would go on to have several more locations, in The New York City area, where the living theater would go on to a chance name and history with productions like the connection and the brig.

Small intimate theater with great acting and music performance. I saw Coal Country, which was an emtionally moving documentary play. The acting was so good and convincing that it made me cry. The stage background was simply made to look like the inside of a coal mine, simple, dark, and moody. Go see this production if you can. It looks like they used to serve snacks and drinks but must've taken that away since covid. Friendly, kind staff. If you are a large person, you might have trouble sitting in the chairs. They are very narrow.

Although Cherry Lane Theater is not in the Broadway Theater District, it is well worth the journey a bit farther downtown. This is a lovely, intimate theater, perfect to enjoy an experience that is being given TO YOU. It is clean, modern, and feels - arty.
Sadie Batchis
Cute little theatre in Greenwich Village. I saw “Oh God, A Show About Abortion” there, which was incredible.
Juan Gutierrez
This cute little artsy theatre, on the quiet cute "only in the village/ off the city grid" street with a natural bend, under a canopy of tree cover, surrounded by historical buildings is itself a powerhouse of theatrical works. When you walk in the place looks just recently renovated - modern, warm and clean. Walk in, turn left and the theater itself is immaculate. An intimate, perfect sized box of a theatre. The Playbill told the history - used to be a brewery along other things, but converted to a theater over a hundred years ago and basically everyone in the theater world has passed through here. Mike Birbiglia performed here last night and his one man show "The New One" was great. Looking forward to attending many more shows here soon.

Located on quaint Commerce Street between Barrow and Bedford Streets in the West Village this off Broadway theatre is magical. It's tiny so it's really intimate, the ambiance is great and you're sitting that close that you feel that you're part of the performance. The staff is also great, most welcoming and very friendly. The Cherry Lane Theatre is a must visit. Highly recommended.

Go see Lambs To Slaughter playing until 7/3/22!
Excellent play written by Khalil Kain, starring him, Adiagha Faizah, Terayle Hill & Shaquila Gooden.

Let me begin by saying that this review is going to be very biased.
I'm going to rant a little due to the circumstances which encouraged me to go to the location, and I have no formal theatrical review experience. This entire writing is simply from my heart. Here we go!
Upon reaching Cherry Lane Theatre, my first thought was "It's very small" however my reason for being there was BIG.
The only time I've gone to a play was either due to being in it myself, or going for someone else. So let me establish the background first.
1. I'm a die hard Overwatch fan. For those of you reading who have no clue what that is, the internet is your friend.
2. Lucie Pohl was performing. She is very closely associated with reason 1; and is the reason I went to the theatre.
The establishment is located on an end street but in a comfortably friendly area of Manhattan.
The theatre itself on the inside is comprised of two parts. The first is a decent and cozy sized waiting area. The theatre itself is tiny, off-Broadway appropriate with about 20-30 seats maybe. These are simple steel frame, cushioned throw chairs. However this enables a production to get very intimate with its audience.
So I digressed. I play Overwatch and Main (frequently play) Mercy. Lucie Pohl is the voice actress for Mercy. Get where I'm going?
Anyway the stage was set up for the production and Anjali Bhimani (voice actress for Symmetra in aforementioned game) is also in attendance. The night was off to a wonderful start.
After a brief introduction to the wonderful actress, (I am terribly shy when it comes to meeting people I look up to) we are set to watch Lucie Pohl perform.
For a solo woman act that lasts over an hour, there was never a point where I felt I needed to stretch and get comfortable or feel bored. Every second of Pohl's performance was captivating. The house did a fantastic job of lighting, music cues and sound.
Pohl herself was able to keep you smiling the entire time, bringing small but welcomed interaction with us and having a great time with her storytelling show. Her many voices, character interactions including ups and down within her timeline enticed you to know the next detail. And hard won tense moments were broken beautifully by comically curveballs.
There were few times that you didn't think you knew the next task or occurrence which was important for me because I tend to pick apart movies instantly and know what's going on. Pohl was easily able to keep that curiosity going the entire time. Seriously, If you can see her show at some point... Do IT!
All in all I can justify my feelings of empowerment in the arts through Pohl's actions. Finding myself smiling after the show led to a brief and emphatically friendly photo op that caused me to spontaneously have a shirt signed (Thank You again Lucie for that!) and express my appreciation for both actresses in the short time they could gift to me.
While both of my idols had plans for the night afterwards, I found myself thinking of what to write for this review once I got home.
Honestly there is so much more I could say but unfortunately the review must stay somewhat focused on the location. However I can say that if Lucie Pohl does perform again at the Cherry Lane Theatre in the future, I am going to visit once more and enjoy the show again. in my vote, I put 5 stars. It really deserves 10/5 stars. Yes, that's 10 out of 5 stars.
If I can get a "Teleporter Online" so I can instantly get to the theatre next time, I'm 100% ready because this show's "Hero will never die!"
For reference, Pohl is on the left and Bhimani on the right in the group photo.

Always love attending performances here. I believe it's the oldest Off Broadway theater in NY. Fun location off Barrow on Commerce. Near a couple of good restaurants. The pieces here have always been interesting and sometimes extraordinary. Coal Country, which we saw this past weekend, was extraordinary.
Elizabeth Amato
Small off Broadway theatre with not a bad seat in the house. Staff is friendly, and tech seems very very good for such a small house.
Saw Coal Country here and loved the show. Can’t wait to see its journey continue!
Andrew McKenna
Saw "Oh God, A Show about Abortion" by Alison Leiby, which I really enjoyed. The venue itself is small and cozy, with a unique brick look interior that's cool. Definitely a good venue for seeing a comedy show, small play or other performance.
Clara Moneir
A hidden NYC theatre. Love all the exposed brick. Can’t wait to go back again. Staff are lovely and very organized.
Peter Casanave
Saw a limited run show.
Who am I to say they aren't the oldest off Broadway house? They were old when I came to town in 1971. Not musty dusty, though.
Brooklynn Pickering
No bad seats in this venue! I was in the cheap seats for a Neal Brennan stand up and could hear and see him perfectly. The space has good acoustics and comfy enough seats. Staff looked after everyone nicely.
Angela Diedrich
What a great theater in an adorable neighborhood. Super friendly staff. Love the more intimate setting for seeing a show.
Karin Krueger
The acting was superb! Plus, a lovely location.
Ken Jacobus
I saw Alex Edelman: Just For Us in December. It was a funny and fascinating performance. The venue is great- intimate with great seats and easy to hear the performance. Its on a quiet street and is quite a gem. I will be checking out their shows much more regularly after this experience.
Jessica Carr
Excellent venue! All seats are great, and the staff are the best. Saw Neal Brennan, whose act, stage, and lighting were perfect in timing and mood. Looking forward to going back.
Howard K Simon
Great (small) venue on a charming street...Excellent and welcoming Theater staff.
Saw ALEX ELDELMAN's one man show...Very entertaining and a lot of laughs! Recommended!
Andrea Wu
I came here to watch Actually, We're F*****. The theater is cozy and small, but comfortable and I'm convinced there's not a bad seat in the house. The play itself was interesting; I would describe it as a drama with social issues touched upon in it. The actors and actresses were pretty good, and they have student rush tickets for the shows here! $22 total and they're sold an hour before curtain time. Not a bad theater, would recommend!
Collin Casey
Helped that we were seeing Neal Brennan, but the theatre is charming, the staff is cool/professional/courteous and even the little street they’re on is cool. West Village on a weekend is barely tolerable, but it was well worth a visit to Cherry Lane.
Pete
Saw comedian Neil Brennan here 9/16/21. Theater is well maintained, intimate, and beautiful. It’s does justice to the iconic WV block that it resides.
But I’m taking a star off for the mask mandate. That’s on management. We here in NYC are doing the right thing, and getting vaccinated, so businesses like these can re-open and make a living, along with the talent that passes thru. Comedians don’t want to perform in front of covered smiles and muted laughter. The mask mandate here is not city law. And it’s excessive. Showing proof of vax is enough.
Most other venues are not doing this. Let’s not turn this into a neurotic, & phobic, industry please.
This is New York. Let’s try and avoid becoming San Francisco.
For that reason I will not return here until the mandate is lifted.
Submitted with respectful intent.
Pete
Henry
Wonderful staff and a great show…intimate theatre…reminds me of the dock street theatre in Charleston SC…quiet block with good dining options nearby on 6 AV or in the village..5 stars
Mary Cerrone
This theater is clean and comfortable seats.
Dotty Tulys
I wish we didnt have this pandemic that closed the theater. It is the best place to go where you can enjoy yourself. The actors are great and put on an awesome show. You couldn't ask for better staff. I wish they would open soon. I cant wait to go back. Everyone be safe.
Jean Newton Unser
A jewel of a small theater with a lot of impact. I saw the Confession of Lily Dare. The writing, acting and staging were tremendous. It illustrated that an actor can portray any age or gender through their craft and we can believe. A classic Hollywood tale with campy delivery that still sincerely touched my heart.
Deborah Schwartz
Beautiful off Broadway theater.
Mary Dailey
Cherry Lane has one typical older theater space & a new small but renovated space. The older space is not particularly comfortable but certainly better than the tiny seats of many Broadway houses.
The new space has good acoustics & provides an intimate space where seats can be placed on three sides of the performance area. Because the stages are so close to each other it's impossible to use the lounge while the second stage is in use.
Steven Smith
Nice little theatre to see some cool shows :-)
Jessica
It is a good, and intimate theatre. However the space is very limited. Which is good for those who likes to engage with the actors. The restroom is very small with only 2 stalls. The seats are comfortable, and the staff was friendly.
K E Nagy
Show was pretty good, acting was pretty good, BUT; after the show and before, the bar cafe area was not open, no food no coffee no drinks no opportunity to chat with friends and mingle, just arrive , sit and watch the show , it’s so sad that that’s all we do and we do not interact or have a chance to interact and discuss the show or have the actors walk around and chat maybe , too bad
Brenda Perez
Its tiny, intimate space which makes it easy to get immersed in the production but also makes it uncomfortable for long periods. The show we came to see was only about 80 minutes which made it bearable, so keep that in mind. Interesting programming. Located on a quaint little street in the West Village, and you can pick a number of great restaurants to visit before or after.
María Beatriz Delpech
I loved the place. I saw a very off broadway play that was very good in the studio ( they had cancelled their main play but couldnt say why). The studio is a small room maybe for 50 people... beautiful. It was a great NY Village theatre experience.
Simon Alebachew
I watched an amazing play called "Fade" here and although the theater is very small, I happen to think it's exactly why it was needed. Very easy to access and a very nice set up. Loved the theater I watched there. Overall a nice place to watch a play.
Maria E. Nicolosi
I saw two shows her in Nov and Dec 2021. Small, intimate theatre. Great experience
The Corcoran Group
Beautiful and very small theater that attracts some big-time talent. The acoustics are so great and you sit so close you really feel like you’re part of the action.

Nathan Kline
Charming spot with picturesque streets and lovely old brick buildings.
William Growney
Well kept off Broadway theater and black box studio. Consider this an opportunity to see shows off the main strip. Nestled in the heart of the West Village. See a show here and have a unique experience.
Patricia Houser (Pat)
Intimate, yet comfortable venue. I've attended at least a dozen performances here and enjoyed them all. Extremely difficult location to find though, so head out early to arrive on time for the performance.
Matthew Poe
Very friendly staff and a very comfortable theater. Primary Stages, whose home is Cherry Lane Theatre, does excellent productions of new work in this historic but recently renovated space.
Alexandra Dolan
Cute little theater tucked into NYC's historic Greenwich village. I went to see Mike Birbiglia and thoroughly enjoyed the intimate setting. Staff was friendly and efficient.
Major points! - there was a water jug at the front with cups that you could refill to your heart's content. This is great in the summer heat, but even better to find in a theatre where common practice leaves you with $15 water bottles
Thanks 🍒 Lane!
Joseph Brown
