Reviews of The Joyce Theater

Dance performance in NYC? You can't pass Joyce. The theater is intimate with good view wherever you sit. I like particularly its interior design. Check the program when you are in town.
For the moment, vaccine certificate with ID is required in addition to mask inside.

One of my favorite local theaters in NYC. It's a bit "vintage" but it has the advantages of every seat being close to the stage, comfortable chairs, a bit more legroom than Broadway or new movie cinemas. Given the neighborhood following, you are likely to see people you know. As a Chelsea institution, a good amount of LGBTQ, avant garde and lesser known productions come through. Once a year the Joyce sponsors a show at Lincoln Center where I saw the Pacific Northwest ballet. Most recently I made it to the holiday tradition Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Concessions and toilets are downstairs at the lower level in the center just off the main lobby.
Kaitlin Rau
I saw Les Ballets Trockadero at the Joyce Theater and it was thoroughly enjoyable! The venue is clean and comfortable, and the theater is intimate enough that all the seats have a fantastic view of the stage. The performance was excellent! I definitely plan to attend future shows.
Michael Abawkaw
Great venue to catch your favorite shows. The staff is very proactive and helpful.

I am always left in awe by the talent displayed at the Joyce Theater. They do an impeccable job curating performances.
Nora Fletcher
Phenomenal performance! We have been here many times and never had a single bad show. Tidy, clean, classy theater. Can’t go wrong!
Samuel Cortes
Went with my son. Great tap dancing show, named 'Chasing magic.' Great music featuring Arturo Ofaril and Ayodele Casel. Joyce theatre is a small and nice atmosphere, with great acoustics. Located in Chelsea NY.
Michael Barabash
Nice venue with good seating wherever you sit. Not the largest place but nice. Would return to for right performance.
Emily Feiner
The Joyce is a wonderful venue. Their shows are always so great and there's not a bad seat in the house!
Alice Davison
Wonderful theatre to attend a show. Not a bad seat in the house. Staff was friendly and helpful
Ayana Salvatore
cute little theater. i would prefer the drinks have a lid (since it’s a crowded space with kids running around). but other than that i’d totally come again
Brittany Miller Lappano
A nonprofit theater dedicated strictly to dance! I caught a Martha Graham tribute for just $30. The theater was on the smaller side, so there wasn’t a bad seat in the house (and trust me, we sat so close to the stage and so far right that we were worried!). Audience ushers seemed very strict but I appreciate that they’re volunteering their time for the love of dance.
Carlene Toron
Sarasota ballet was extraordinary. Have been attending the Joyce since they opened probably 30 years ago. Good viewing and some wonderful performances.
Cenk Gürdoğan
Complexions was one of the best performance I ever watch at NYC. I do definitely recommend this art of Ballet 🩰 mix of contemporary dance. Just magnificent! …
Nick Armstrong
The Joyce is always a joy. The four rather than five stars is because I'm a big guy, hefty and tall, and I have to be very careful about choosing seats... I've blitzed other venues on B'way because they've jammed seats in everywhere so that way hing a show is more like travelling ultra economy on a third rate airline than watching a B'way show. One fears for ones blood circulation... So the Joyce is doing fine....
The shows are consistently interesting, if not always to one's taste, which is to be expected.
As long as I'm in New York, and as long as they don't jam more seats in, I'm a reliable patron.
Larry Krauss
Best dance venue in NYC, imho. Troupes from all over the world. Mostly modern dance. Wheelchair friendly. In the heart of Chelsea.
Kevin Zeng
Here for a kids ballet dance performance. Oh those kids can dance and so much energy.
This is a run of the mill theather and has almost everything you expected. Tickets pick up at the window. Waiting area inside. Service drinks by the counter during intermission. And I saw someone bring in an order of sushi from outside. I shoulda done the same. :(
Shows run for about a hour to a half and seats are like a budget airline plane size. If you have long legs, pick a seat by the alias. From the look of it, the place is well run. We have assistance finding our seats and they are all the way in the back. If you don't want to sit, you can also stand in the back.
I think about every seat is the same here with the perfect view anywhere.
I dont think there are much to talk about here except to just write a little bit more. Oh yes super clean seats.check out the pictures I took.
Bea Moreno
Celebrated my Bday here & saw Ayodele Casel’ tap dance show Chasing Magic!! Beautiful dance venue in the heart of Chelsea.
David Krivit
An excellent hall for live performances. Please educate the seating staff NOT TO TOUCH guests. An usher (white curls w blue patch in hair) poked my arm hard enough to knock it off the rest to see my row (H) and rather than apologize she explained ‘I needed to see the row’. WRONG. Do not ever touch us. Have a nice day!
Nico Rodriguez
The Joyce Theater is the American home of dance. With consistently outstanding programming and a space with fantastic sightlines that put you close to the proscenium, it is truly unmatched.
Byron Cox
Keeping the stage alive for international dance performance will always be a noble gesture.
Ed Berry
Outstanding dance company! Wonderful venue for dance. No bad seats.
Ira Gershenhorn
Didn't see much of the theatre. Had fabulous front row seats. Not obstructed.
Kathy Young
I love the Joyce. It is a great place to see dance. I love that they continue with a mask on policy
Bill White
Awesome space! This is a consistently great venue for dance of all disciplines. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. This photo is Balcony Left, first row, seat 3.
riccardo perdomo
Great performance theater.
You can actually see dancers in full motion.
Blake Wolf
I love this theater and have been going regularly since 2007. It’s cute and there’s not a bad seat in the house. It’s a safe bet any time you go that the production on stage will be high quality.
Dawn Ohrnberger
First time at this theater and I was pleasantly surprised. The show was phenomenal and the seats were perfect. I will be returning.
K Stephens
No matter Orchestra Seats or the Seating at the end of the Auditorium every seat is a good seat at the Joyce. This is the perfect place to view dance in America.
Easily accessible to E or A train and all Chelsea busses.
Always great places to eat after performances.
The Joyce staff is always cheerful and happy to help you get seated and Enjoy the shows.
Full bar downstairs and light refreshments.
If you are waiting for someone who is performing the green room gives you closed circuit live viewing of the stage outside the dressing rooms.
Special seating, wheelchair and hearing impaired devices are also available.
Evening shows usually begin at 8 p.m.. Matinee on Saturday depend on the performance.
Julian Aptowitz
Terrific venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Saw Alan Cummings in his one-man show, "Burn."
Lu Zeng
I saw the Garth Fagan company from a "partial view" seat, and you know what? It was AMAZING. You can't see people's feet from the first row, but you do see every breath, every facial expression, every drop of sweat that flies off the incredible dancers. If you like seeing human beings do incredible feats of artistry with their bodies, come to this theater.
Bryan Mosher
We came to see the Trocks and the Theater never explained that family matinee means a program change until after the program changed. The box office gave us Management's email who then heard our issues and apologized. I might bump this up to five stars if next time goes better and it was just a rough day. Thanks, Joyce Theater.
Mark Hoffman
The Joyce is a great, fairly intimate theater.
They were efficient with checking vaccination status and ID by having multiple people do that outside the theater and a separate group take tickets inside.
I saw a great performance of US indigenous American dance.
Michael b
Excellent dance venue. A landmark in Chelsea. Unobstructed seating.
Maria Volchyok
I find the staff at times rude. But the theater itself and the shows are fantastic—my favorite place.
Felisa Colon
This is my first time after COVID. All broadway shows are “mask optional” but at the Joyce you have to show proof of vaccine + id + mandatory mask. I used to go often but now will only go to see very important shows to me. Disappointed in their rules.
Chris R
A friend turned me on to the many great performances here and it hasn't disappointed! Staff are nice and go through proper covid protocols before one is able to access the theater. Not outrageous in price and you get to be in a more intimate space. And it's right next to a nice restaurant/bar so your evening is easy to plan 😀 …
Jeanne Watkins
Bought tickets at the box office. Very helpful pleasant staff.
Steven V Z
What a beautiful theater and a great dancing show!
Geraldine Glassman
The Joyce is my favorite theater for dance in New York. It's a small, intimate theater that has some of the biggest names in modern dance troupes in the country. Their friends of the Joyce memberships offer a full dance experience with receptions with dance troupes, access to rehearsals and many other perks. Their ticket prices are reasonable which makes dance accessible to everyone. It's a gem in Chelsea.
Camille Amoyal
Amazing theater! The production they have is remarkable
George Greenberg
This is the mecca for modern dance in NYC. Great sight lines, accoustics. Every dancer and dance company worth seeing appears here.
Jordan Griffith
A beautiful more contemporary theater. Their updated sound system is much more immersive and it's a good size for getting lost in a show.
Seana Anderson
Beautiful space, great staff. Every seat has an excellent view. Quality of dance companies is amazing. Most recent concerts were Ballet Hispanico and Complexions.
Koki Doktori
Moshe, stimulating, enjoyable evening. Great dance company.
Nigel Corcho
The entire staff and crew were very kind and professional Sarasota Ballet a Florida was amazing
Chris Reese
Great intament experience the only issue is the seats are very tight and I'm a small guy 175lbs. Other than that the lighting and sound and show was on point not a bad view in the house.
Madhav Shunmugam
Amazing theater, but compulsory mask mandate is sickening even for vaccinated people
Kim Ponce
A small theater that had an amazing program the night we attended. I don't think there is a bad seat here.
Darlene jackson
I scrambled down to the Joyce theater to catch some great inexpensive performances.
Ms Vee
One of the only venues in NYC that presents just dance. Great sight lines. There is no bad seat.....except maybe the first 2 rows, but that's why those seats are $10 and $20. Cant go wrong with that price.
Pete Burg
We like this place a lot. It's small and intimate so you are relatively quite close to the stage and don't have any bad vantage points. Also, they have some really great acts come to perform there on a regular basis. The bar/concession downstairs offers a good variety of things. And the people working there are generally friendly and efficient.
That said I find the separating space between rows to be too small. I have been to a great many theater spaces around NYC, and this is definitely a common theme among most of them. So it's in keeping with them. However, at 5'10" I'm only slightly higher than average height for a guy. And at the Joyce unless I'm sitting perfectly straight back in my chair my knees cannot help but gently push on the seat back in front of me...serving as a constant reminder throughout the performance. It's not generally this tight elsewhere.
But overall kudos to The Joyce!
Daniel Samir Hussein
Nice venue- we watched a ballet which was an amazing show.
hermes defrias
nice place ; just the right size theater, no matter where you sit , you will be in a good one . clean / updated ; didn't get any pictures this time
well located , good restaurants near by
roberta hunter
great theatre for dance. good sight lines.
Kevin Moeti
Great theatre for dance! They have really affordable tickets (starting at $10) for most, if not all their shows, and there's really not a bad seat in the house. Even the partial view front row seats aren't really partial view if you're taller than 5'7". The dance companies that come through here are world class.
Phil Douglas
This is a lovely old, small theatre. We saw a flamenco performance here and were able to get a real feel for the performance.
Robert Morgan

Ronald K. Brown's Evidence was Spectacular! Love, love his work and the dancers were Amazing! The Joyce is a great theater to see dance, drama, artistic expression. It's an intimate feel and to me every seat is a great seat. I especially enjoy 2nd floor 1st row balcony seating...the absolute best view. Staff are nice and I love the vibe.
Sharon Nelson
Beautiful theatre! Appears to have been recently renovated. There is not a bad seat in the house, and such comfortable seats, too! We attended the "C" performance of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Fabulous performance. So enjoyed both pieces in this show. A wonderful afternoon.
ismael diaz
1st time attending a live performance there. It was excellent! The staff was very nice and helpful also courteous to all the senior citizens who may need assistance. It's an old renovated movie theater. Im not sure if they had an elevator to access the balcony, we walked up a short flight of stairs.
Seating there are on custioned wooden
chairs which was ok.
Acoustics and lighting are great. Most importantly the shows are very affordable. Enjoy!
Sebastien Salin
Really nice theater, small, close to the artists. Confortable I recommend it. Really nice show
E. Thompson
An amazing dance venue. An intimate space, allowing you to see the performers' facial expressions as well as their footwork. We have not had a bad seat, and do not think there is one. Thank you to everyone at The Joyce. <3
Carlos Franceschi
Ballet Trocadero presented excellent show.
sistalinda
Fantastic space whether performing or attending.
Orlando Ferrand
I've been coming to this theater for over two decades and I always have the most pleasant surprise with the array of dance performances in its programming. I wouldn't hesitate to say that the Joyce Theater is a unique performance space not only because of the eclectic high quality performances but also because of its design. Regardless of where you sit, your view will be accurate and unobstructed without parallel.
Matthew Poe
A really great dance venue-- we sat in the side balconies and had a great view. This place feels nicer and better-kept than many of the performance venues of its size in the city. I'd happily come back to see a show here anytime.
Peter Lijoi
One of the best dance theaters around. The independent companies that perform there are amazing and no seat is bad. You can often meet the dancers at the end of the show on the lower level, take selfies, or just chat
Jeffr' Bunny Bunster
EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE!!!! KUDOS to the entire Cast & Crew!!!! Front House to the Back, Artistic Director, Production and Everyone Involved & Including Patrons for keeping Theater & Dance Alive and Well!! THANK YOU!!
Alia Aldalli
Loved the Dorrance group and their tap dancing show. The first part was more enjoyable I think because the stage had no more than eight performers so you could watch the footwork. And they they had this melody/dance between the musicians and the dancers. Memorable. The second half was a rendition of the Nutcracker and there were just too many dancers on the stage so I kept falling asleep it was confusing. So I nearly.missed some fabulous costumes of vegetables and flowers!
SÉRGIO PARREIRA
Theater experience was great. There are no waiting areas outside the sitting room inside. Long day. Extremely tired but still went to the show. Got there bought a tea literally no place to seat and wait. Set on the steps a security guard made me stand. Almost left the theater... Whatever you are going to watch there don't show up earlier!!!!
Nora Berger
First time at The Joyce this evening and I got to see Michelle Dorrance and her company. The stage floor was very well mic'ed. The theater itself is rather small, but that is what makes it so great; no matter where you are seated, it feels like an intimate experience. Would absolutely go to The Joyce again
Lisa Schnettler
It's a great venue for dance. There are almost no bad seats. It's also nice that they let you inside prior to opening up seating. (so if you arrive a little early you don't have to wait in the rain or cold)
Bestar Mujaj
You need to buy a sippy cup in order to bring your drinks upstairs.
Don't bother getting a beer if you plan on bringing it in to the theater...
You will pay for a whole bottle and only get about 75% of it poured into the sippy cup that you need to pay for on top of the drink.
Bad deal... That's why 4 stars.
Wanted to give three, but everything else wasn't too bad, and I got a cocktail, while my friend was stuck sipping on 75% of a beer he paid for. Lol
The "Loge" seats are probably the best seats in the theater.
They're also the cheapest. You want to sit towards the back of the house, the closer to the stage the harder it is to see the full stage.
Otherwise it's clean, okay service, and amazing performances.
Just avoid the 75% issue with beers and you have nothing else to be disappointed about.
Enjoy!
Ellen Molken
Dorrance Dance was excellent! Almost all seats at Joyce are fine for viewing. As with most NY theaters space between rows is in adequate unless you are short. Medium size venue works well for performances.
Kate Kosche
Saw a ballet performance here. I had never been here before, (and frankly didn't know it existed) but I was very impressed with the venue. Good size, very good sight lines, comfortable seats. I will be on the lookout for future offerings.
Ariel Torres
I arrived late, so I had to stand during the performance (my fault, of course), so I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to see the stage so perfectly from the standing room area.
I'm convinced that there are no bad spots from which to see the stage.
The staff is so nice, by the way.
Gabriel O
Great dance venue in NYC. A few bad sight line seats, but not a deal breaker. Enjoy this rare gem of a theater for everything from modern dance companies & classical ballet to more experimental dance artists.
Suzanna Zeitler
I adore this theater. So happy that I have been able to expose my teens to great dance. They love it too! Helps that my mom's name was Joyce so I feel a connection with her each time we visit! T-shirts all around!
Juanita Mcleod
Went to see Savion Glover and his awesome dancers. I had a great time with my honey. Mr. Glover and his troop were so down to earth. Talked with them and they all signed my shirt. Best experience ever.
Norman Garner
Great venue for dance with good sight lines from every seat. Caught Dorrance Dance holiday Program A. Still showing why she won a MacArthur Genius award for original tap works. High energy and great skill.
Kman Da Great
Went to see INK and it was great. So many different aspects of today's world mixed into a dance with music. I saw myself and my struggle in the movements of the dancers. In today's world men and women move the same and listen to the same beat. Everybody should get a chance to watch this show.
cy
Dorrance dance. Great venue.
Leslie Peterson
The Joyce is a small intimate theater in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. It features modern dance companies from the US & around the world. I saw the Aspen Sante Fe Ballet Co. perform yesterday & they were outstanding. There is a small cafe downstairs that serves coffee, wine, desserts, etc. They have family matinees for some of the dance companies, which is a very nice way of introducing young children to the world of dance.
Zoe Long
I’ve seen two productions here, both of them absolutely incredible. Comfortable seats with actual foot room and great service. Bar is not insanely over priced, about the same as any bar around the area which I appreciate.
Carolyn De Melo
I attended the performance of the Hong Kong Ballet, which was modern and beautiful, with some small whimsical and touching details. The space is a warm accommodating theatre, with elegant architecture and accessibility. Audience members were wonderfully polite, before, during, and after the performance.
Google User
This theater should be permanently on your list of places to go to. Dance performances venue. Majority of NYC dance companies and others perform their works there. See Complexions, Momix, Trockadero, and others. Students get discount and dance students get some kind of work study offers, talk to front desk. Inexpensive and high value. Staff are very polite and professional. Best experience I have had.
Lindz
Great little theater with excellent staging and lighting and acoustics. Women's restroom accommodates many! The lower lounge lacked air conditioning and was very uncomfortable.
Yoonju Kim
Lovely, small theatre that props up the modern dance. The chelsea location will be sorely missed when they relocate downtown. Along with the City Center, some of the most comfortable seating in a performing arts venue.
Jonathan Zacsh
Don't have much experience seeing live performances in theaters like this (I saw "D-Man in the Waters" - was fantastic), but loved the space. Small, stadium style seating so every seat has a clear view of the stage. Orchestra had a small space stage-right and the sound was wondrful.
Mikell Grand
The Joyce Theatre is New York City's preeminent dance venue. With a great location Chelsea , good seats, big stage with good views. The Joyce is surrounded by really nice restaurants allowing for a quick bite before or after a performance..
Alana
Visited today to see a performance by Che Malambo an Argentinian Dance Company. I was totally blown away by the performance it was nothing short of amazing.
The theatre is very cozy seating is spacious and the staff is very personable.
Scott Gabrielle
My favorite theater in NYC. Consistently hosts the best dance companies in the world from the well known to the up and coming new and emerging talent. Not a bad seat in the house either.
Malea Grubb
It's a very small, intimate dance performance space where companies generally from outside the city perform on tour. I find for contemporary works, this sort of performance space is ideal, particularly for smaller companies. It's definitely not a venue on the scale of NY State or the Met, but it generally works for the sort of work that is performed here.
Karola De la Peña
I saw a great show in Joyce. It is a small theater so you can see very good from all over. It was worth it.
And for some shows you can call and you get supe price. We were in the front row though, but even you miss some foot, the expresión and the energy it's totally worth it
Adam Segal-Isaacson
Saw Pilobolus. As usual they were very good. Some of the dancers were amazing. Most of the choreography was excellent although one piece seemed confusing. Pilobolus' use of short videos as interludes between dances is interesting but some are better than others.
Hana Frluckaj
No matter where you sit you have a good view of the stage. I've seen some really fun and entertaining shows here, including Jim Parsons and Thwyla Tharpe. The theater is small so you're pretty much always going to be close to the stage.
Sangeeta Yesley
Always a joy to see wonderful dance shows at the Joyce.
Pebbles Napakh
AMAZING performance space! No bad seats! Always a wonderful show.
michael rock
I've been coming here since 1984. Not really a bad seat in the house. The staff is generally professional and helpful. An amazing range of dance performances.
Esther Brown
So many interesting, inventive dance companies that come through the Joyce. Love the art deco exterior. Come here to see Martha Graham's company, or the latest new thing from Brazil or Africa. Prices are also really, really reasonable. You won't be disappointed -- small, intimate theater ensures a memorable experience.
Tamara Pal
This was a stunning Surprise, like finding a JEWEL in the middle of THE " COSMOS " Great Acoustics, Seating so comfortable no one's views were blocked by anyone else,
Impeccable cleanliness. INGRESS &
EGRESS well corordinated by ushers and security as to safety! It is a Beautiful experience in every way!

RONALD K BROWN EVIDENCE at The JOYCE Theater...IS MUST SEE, LISTEN and FEEL Dance Performance!
Beautiful People,
Last week I went to The JOYCE Theater to witness a performance of the RONALD K BROWN EVIDENCE Dance Company. The JOYCE Staff was warm and welcoming.
Instead of merely witnessing, we went on a journey of healing and hope. The storytelling, the music, the costumes, and lighting set the stage for us to receive the energy of the magnificent dancers.
Blending African dance with contemporary choreography filled with ying and yang energetic and technically challenging movement and dancers with personalities; those of us in the audience were invited to experience a range of emotions.
We laughed and cried through HIGHLIFE. We identified and felt moved by MERCY. We embraced Divine Love through GRACE.
And having journeyed for 2 hours with these exquisite dancers while reflecting on our own personal stories, (our conflicts and hardships, our joys, our struggles, our hopes and dreams)...
At the end of the Finale of GRACE, We All Rose, and Clapped with Full Hearts.
Then Artistic Director, Ronald K. Brown joined the dancers on stage. And Again They Danced and We the Audience Were Inspired to Dance In Gratitude!
BRAVO! BRAVO TO ALL INVOLVED IN CREATING A MAGICAL, MEANIFUL, MEMORABLE EVENING at The JOYCE !
Live & Love...
Always, Melony 💚

The best venue to both work in and see dance in the City
Van Fisher
I saw Camille A. Brown & Dancers perform. The performance was electrifying, insightful and amazing. Camille's choreography for Mr. TOL E. RAnce is progressive and thought provoking and woke. Her dance encourages us, the audience to ask questions about stereotypes in the past, present and future. Where do we see ourselves going as a people? "We Wear The Mask..." the poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Danny van der Rijn
Awesome theater. Not a bad seat in the house. Amazing dance performances for a community that loves dance on all it's forms. A truly special place.
Jasper Garner
My chill out spot.
TYree S
Portable ramp on very accessible public street. Push pad auto door entrance into elevated building with eaccessible restrooms available
Antonia Bryan
A venue devoted to dance with many extraordinary performances. But on this brutally frigid day, it was stifling inside. Audience members were fanning themselves with programs. Wear layers if you go.
Rachel Scott
Classic venue with great international dance performances.
Chuck Vassallo
The premiere performance space dedicated to dance in NYC. Dance companies from all over the world come here to present their work. The sightlines are terrific from everywhere in the house. And the snacks and coffee available at the bar are delicious.
Galo Ortiz
Centrally located in Chelsea and easily accessible. I've been here many times for great performances.
T CASTRO
The Joyce Theater was actually very nice. A Theater we will definitely return to.
Guy Bar Yosef
No bad seats in the theater. Always great dance performances, usually switching quite often. Large stage too, so it is all quite nice and topnotch
Emily Chu
Intimate, well-designed and well-maintained theater. We recently saw Ib Anderson's "Play" performed by Ballet Arizona here and sat in the $10 first row seats (available by advance phone order), which allowed us a surprisingly decent view (except for the brief moments when the dancers laid flat on the stage).
A. Ambrose
Any seat is a great seat! Came here to see Batsheva and it was beautiful. Lots of good food nearby if you want a quick bite before the show
Lola Maskovsky
Love The Joyce! As a member I get all good benefits and staff is very helpful. The prices are great...all you have to do is purchase 4 tix and you get 25% discount for one season. You can buy extra tix and still get the discount at any time. You can exchange your tix forr a future show if you can't make the event that you originally chose. I don't work for the Joyce. I just find my experiences there to be outstanding...and the dancing is pretty good too!!!!!
HERM PAZ
Hands down the best place to.watch dance in NYC, easily in the USA, if not worldwide.
Ana Calero
Wonderful theater. Friendly and helpful staff. Great show. Convenient and safe location; accessible by public transportation and plenty of spots to have a meal and/or drinks and appetizers.
viv237
Modern theater. Didn't feel sqwished. Every seat has a good view. Most performances are modern or avant garde. Located in the trendy Chelsea neighborhood.
Stephan Grütering
I went to see a show called "Le Ballet Trokadero de Monte Carlo" I almost peed my panty because I was laughing and laughing. It was so funny, an all male troupe.
The place itself, was mediocre at best... I am almost 2 meters tall, which made my sitting arrangement a bit tight. As in most New York theatres, they do not have real Foyer, therefore u have to drink your coffee at the Starbucks right across the street.
Bruce Qua
It marvelous, intimate venue for dance performances by variety of New York, US, and international performers. Their motto, "Get closer to dance," is truly apt, there are no bad seats.
Setpheap
The best dance theater ever. Joyce is the only place that you can see many kind of dances, performance from difference companies and from all over the U.S and the world.
Aisha Hicks
Comfortable seating, friendly staff, clean & fresh facilities! I've seen several shows here and I'm never disappointed!
alby tarzia
this is a great little theater in Chelsea that specializes in dance performances...the place looks great, it's very clean and well-run, and the dance troupes that perform there are world-class...it only seats 472 and there's not a bad seat in the house...it's easy to get to via public transportation and the neighborhood is full of interesting places to get a meal or have a drink...highly recommended!
Akua Dixon
Ronald Brown Dance Company is excellent. I loved the dancers and the choreography. I took off one star because the seating is tight for taller people.
Irina Roskina
Love Trocadero Ballet of Monte Carlo! Always fun to watch their performances!!!
Ivette Rivera
perfect size to view a show seating is comfortable and the shows are fantastic always. Saw the tap dancer adyelev casel fabulous
Paul
I love theater it touches the soul
Reed Palmer
Great experience watching contemporary ballet. Had limited view of dancers feet in 2nd row. Overall good value considering price.
Jeffrey Macklis

Powerful, intense, amazing dance. An incredible variety of companies and styles. A gem. And great eats nearby. Or the High Line. Or the Rubin. It's downtown Manhattan, what can you say.

In all of the theaters that I've attended, The Joyce is unique in that it is intimate, the front-of-house staff is personable, and not only is equity and inclusion stated with a mission, it is also acted upon in collaboration with artists, students, and the community.
An artistic institution, and more specifically, a dance presenter, such as The Joyce, is needed in the NYC community to be a model for all generations who support the arts. From presenting Dada Masilo's Swan Lake last year to presenting Hawaiian company, Hālau O Kekuhi next season, The Joyce not only states diversity in its mission, it shows action in its stylistically and racially diverse company offerings and its artistic and scholastic support opportunities. The School and Family programs department, to my knowledge and from the Times, supports youth from all socioeconomic backgrounds, and recently, had a collaboration with Parsons Dance and the Theatre Development Fund to be the first dance theater to present accessibility programming in New York City. The community outreach throughout Chelsea/Meatpacking District is definitely a first for an artistic institution in the neighborhood. Just want to give kudos to them for their staff's hard and humble work. This is AMAZING!
Upon attending The Joyce's offerings and seeing them progress, they have caught my attention as more than just a dance presenter, but rather a model for positive change in the arts community and for fellow students like myself. I give 5 stars for now, and infinitely more for the future! Cheers to The Joyce!
Aleksey
