What a beautiful and memorable experience! The show was absolutely breathtaking. The staff who work here are extremely friendly and professional. Yes, it looks like an older theater. The seats are a little small and that would be my only problem with everything. I would definitely love to come back! Drink was delicious! Yes, things are on the pricier side but this is Manhattan come on.

I have wanted to see this musical since I hears about it in ‘97. I finally got the chance to see it with my 6 year old daughter. It was delightful. The costumes, the singing, the actors, top notch of course and it really amazing to see how the actors control the costumes at the same time. Simply breath taking! Go see it for yourself!

We viewed this black centric play on Friday, August 12, 2022 at The Minskoff Theatre. This play is held at the Minskoff Theatre and appears to have shows daily and weekly. We knew we were there, when we saw the big bright yellow The Lion King sign and sprinkling bright lights. Upon arrival outside, we were able to view the portraits of famous cast members including: Rafiki, Nala, and Simba. I purchased tickets at the box office the same evening. The playhouse is decorated very well with African themed elements. The theater was definitely clean, well-maintained, and tastefully decorated to incorporate The Lion King theme. Masks are not required at this theater, but are encouraged. They did have really nice gift shops inside which featured Lion King souvenirs. We did purchase a hoodie, T-shirt, bracelets, and keychains. There’s also a couple of nice bars which serve snacks, alcoholic beverages, and non-alcoholic beverages. We did purchase pretzels, the orange Creamsicle slushy, and the mango slushy. The orange Creamsicle slushy was really refreshing, sweet, and delicious. Once we purchased our drinks, we made our way down to the orchestra section where we were assisted by staff who showed us to our seats. We got excellent seats with a great view of the stage. The seating is all one level, so you have to look over the person’s head in front of you to see. The show did start on time and the big opening act was simply spectacular. All of the costume and set designs were simply breathtaking and amazing. The set was extremely colorful, bright, and engaging. The musical sets were simply amazing and all of the actors did a spectacular job portraying the story of The Lion King. They also informed us before the start of the show, that there was no video or photography permitted. I had respect for the cast, crew, The Lion King, and Minskoff Theater. I did not take any photography or videos during the play. It appeared that the majority of other people did not do so either. This is definitely a family friendly event and great for children and adults. After the opening of Act One, we were able to see very notable characters including: Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Scar, and Rafiki. I love that this play looked very similar to the Disney movie original storyline. This was our first time on Broadway and we greatly enjoyed the amazing performance of the most talented actors and actresses. It was also amazing to see the hyenas at the elephant boneyard, along with other notable scenes that we remember from our childhood watching this movie. Once Act Two came, the tragedy of the play occurred in the same way it was portrayed in the movie. This included the fall scenes with wire, which was very accurate and felt believable. All of the special effects in this play were also pretty amazing. They left me wondering how they were going to act out and adequately portray certain scenes, but they did so with ease. This included the stampede that occurred in Act Two. Even the way the actors portrayed the animals was spot on and easily recognizable. This included featured animals like birds, giraffes, and others. My favorite scenes were definitely in Act Two with Pumba, Timon, and Simba. It was beautiful watching Simba grow up with ease and having a carefree life with some of his best friends. Before Act Three, we had a 15 minute intermission where we were allowed to leave our seats and go purchase snacks and other souvenirs. Once Act Three came, we were able to see the amazing finale of Simba defeating Scar and taking his rightful place as King of Pride Rock. The story and play was simply amazing and more than we hoped for. It definitely exceeded our expectations. The beginning of the story was how the end of story was. The restoration of Pride Rock back to its original landscaping and with its rightful heir was the moment of this play. I do highly recommend that everyone in New York go see a Broadway play. If you can make it to The Lion King musical, you will immerse yourself in a world of African excellence and witness such amazing black talent on stage.

I knew this was going to be good, but I didn't realize HOW good it was going to be. The costumes are incredible and so creative, the music is obviously fun, and the way they do the set/stage pieces is really cool to watch. I'd totally go again, and recommend anyone see this. The theater is also right in Times Square which was fun.

2nd time seeing it and still just as phenomenal as the first! The lighting & transitions were stellar. I don’t have any complaints about the performance but if I could complain it would be about the people who came in late and disturbed the show, other than that it was out of this world.

Wow! I had so many expectations when I got the ticket, and all of them were fulfilled above and beyond! The production! The live performances of our favorite songs! Everything is done to perfection, from the casting to the costumes, from the stage to the live orchestra. There are a few new very good songs (that were not in the movie). Everyone, from kids to adults, all had such a great time. You feel like you should go and give a standing ovation after almost every song. One of the best experiences I have ever had, definitely worth the (not so cheap) ticket. Probably will go again one day. I recommend to get seats in the orchestra (not the mezzanine), rows H or above (not too far though). Also, the technical management of the event and the theatre is worth mentioning. There’s no line at all, and there are many ushers making sure you are not lost and giving you all the help you need. The theatre is beautiful and very stylish. (By the way, the live orchestra is not actually visible since it’s mostly set under the stage. I was sitting in row J, but even in the first row, I don’t think it’s possible to see them. You can still hear and notice it’s done live, and it is absolutely fantastic).

The best Broadway show I’ve ever seen. It was also our 6 year old daughter’s first Broadway show. She was captivated the entire time. Don’t second guess, purchase tickets and go. Also, love seeing and experiencing the authenticity of Africa. Don’t lose or compromise that. I’m hopeful the show stays true to this level of authenticity and consider it throughout all casting. It’s beautiful.

I have always wanted to watch a Broadway show. What better show to start with then my favorite Disney movie - "The Lion King". I was so ecstatic to see this show. The entire experience was AMAZING! I would highly recommend to anyone who loves the movie to watch this play. All the performers were GREAT and the dancing/singing, OMG i couldn't get enough! This was a great start to my Broadway experience and I will surely be back to watch more. Thank you, Lion King and NYC for having such an amazing experience!

I was blown away by this musical. From the songs to the set and costumes, this was everything you could ask for in a play. I can see why this has been running since 1997. This is such a well done play and I was in awe from the first scene to the last. This is a show to not be missed even if you have never seen the movie the Lion King.

Took my daughter for her 10th birthday and we absolutely loved the show! The actors of Rafiki, Mufasa, Scar brought the characters to life! The actors who played the cub version of Nala and Simba were very impressive and professional, hard to believe their kids themselves! The costumes were incredible and we enjoyed the use of the theatre, although I wish we got isle seats instead of the middle! It was odd to me that they offered snacks and drinks (I did get one to try and get a Lion King travel mug) the drink was yummy too. Bathroom lines were long but managed to get back in time in between intermission and I wish the lady in front took her hat off (were inside Broadway for goodness sake - take your hat off!) it did seem at times that the choreography wasn’t in sync, however, maybe it’s the interpretation of the type of dance, it didn’t take away from the whole show!

What a show!!!! Costumes, acting, music, dance, story ,stage everything is just exceptional!!! It's expensive but totally worth the price. It's super crowded and you have to wear mask throughout the whole show. Definitely worth a visit!!!

Really good start to finish, nothing bad to say at all, first rate. Couldn’t believe it ever got a one star review so I looked at them, most of them complain about the ticket office, food prices and audience. Seriously? This production is outstanding, I wasn’t that pumped to go, went for the kids, but I left super impressed. Visuals were stunning.

FABULOUS SHOW!!!! Broadway at her best! Took my Mom to see this show for her 80th Birthday. We had front row seats. It was incredible! The acting, the choreography, the costume design, the singing, the music... EVERYTHING was amazing! Beautifully executed. Brought tears to my eyes. I especially loved, Nala's adult character. The actress portraying her in October 2022 was absolutely phenomenal. Fantastic singing voice, presence and talent. My Mom was so happy to finally see this show. I'm so grateful we saw this performance together. Definitely a beautiful memory. Thanks to the cast, the writers, the musicians, the Casting Directors... Phenomenal in every way!

There's a lottery you can enter for cheaper tickets. I've been entering that for several months and finally won. This is the largest theater I've ever been to, you. Go up flight of stairs to get to orchestra level. The nostalgia, the songs, the story is all pretty true to the movie. But the real gem and stand out of this musical is the costumes, scenery, puppetry. This is my first Disney musical and there were so many kids around - lots of talking during the show - but just embrace their energy and wonderment! For any musical lover, you must have this on your list. Disney does have its marketing/merchandising down though haha

The costumes and the stage are amazing. The singing of the lead role (adult Simba)…well well well, I was not impressed at all. Out of tune many times. Overall this is an evening performance for families with kids, who will definitely love the show.

Experience of a lifetime !!! I can't properly convert my emotions into words when " Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba" beginning of Circle of Life was voiced suddenly from somewhere in the theatre and then slowly the whole scene of the rising sun, running deer and other animals running around started to assemble, cast members walking towards the stage in their animal getup, and the famous scene of Rafiki carrying simba up, i was just too emotional, goosebumps in my whole body. Seeing a childhood book/ movie coming to life, that too a broadway show, too much of an assault on my emotional state. But it was worth every $ I spent on the ticket. And this is probably the toughest Broadway production because all of the cast portraying animals. So dancing and singing and acting while wearing the animal headpieces were definitely tough and special mention to the ppl who were playing "grass", their synchronized movements were just too good!!! The changing of backgrounds were done so smoothly, the music, the singing, the choreography, the whole production was mind boggling !!! And i don't think there were any dry eyes in the audience when Mufasa died. This was just one brilliant show, not to be missed. The ticket IS pricey but after seeing it, gonna definitely feel it was worth every penny !!! A true once in a lifetime experience.

If you are looking for a show to watch with the whole family then I highly recommend this show. It is split between a musical and a play for me. I wish they did more singing. The costumes, set and actors were phenomenal. The actors are very talented! I understand now why this show has been running for a long time. It’s my first time seeing it and they 100% delivered on entertaining and keeping me engaged the whole time. The Minskoff theater was nice. The view of Times Square from the main lobby is lovely. I recommend the show. It was awesome!!

Oh my goodness !!!! What an AMAZING, breathtaking show. I cried when it commenced. So many emotions arose. I felt like I was in the movie. The scene changes were so realistic. This play & Aladdin are my favorite Disney productions. If you can try to get an isle seat, it worth it because the animals come down the isle throughout the play. THIS PLAY IS A MUST SEE ! My photo is from row O in orchestra seating. Oh, and as we were walking later that day. My daughter noticed the girl who played young Nala & she got a photo with her ♡ It was a perfect ending.

The show was amazing and lived up to the hype! The seats however are tiny. If you need leg room, I suggest getting a seat on the end of an aisle so you can stretch your legs for a little. Other than the seats, I absolutely loved the show. It kept my attention the whole time.

They were all so creative and beautiful to behold. The sunrises, the stampede scene, and the waterfall had my favorite sets! My favorite costume is the cheetah, whose dancer gracefully maneuvered it using her own legs for the cheetah's hind legs, two polls in her hands for the front paws, and two cords attached to her head and the cheetah's, allowing her to move the costume's head by simply moving her own. The scale of the giraffes makes them feel almost real. The music and dance are exquisite, with a heavey African feel that bring life to the entire musical. You won't be disappointed by this show!

What a great performance I got chills as soon as they opened the curtains. This is a great experience for everybody no matter age nor language. Get tickets in advance and do wear a mask it is required but they will provide one if you don't have.

The show is great. My only complaint is that those seats there are so narrow. I had a heavy man sit next to me and it made it very uncomfortable. First it was super hot outside. When you walk into the theater, the AC is fantastic but one once you enter where the show takes place, the AC is not on full blast. I saw plenty of patrons and employees fanning themselves.

Whether you have kids or you are a kid at heart, this classic will take you back in time and make you walk down memory lane. Be sure to bring tissue and get ready to sing along, clap, and stand for their awesome performance. You will not regret coming here! Oh and do splurge on a drink so you can take the cup home!

If there is ANYTHING you need to do in life - go see this! Naturally, no photographs were allowed with the show on, but what I saw will be forever put into memory. It is an astonishing show. At the opening of it, I started crying uncontrollably because it was so beautiful and overwhelming. I looked around and saw some other folks were too! A childhood favorite story reimagined with the most glorious of costumes, actors, props and awe-inspiring music. Every single element of this show was flawless and it is not surprise why it has been in show business for this long. Go see it and experience magic!

Really fascinating play, superbly orchestrated and executed stage effects. I can't really say enough good things about this, but know that I am not a lover of live theater. In fact, I'd generally prefer to pluck my nose hairs out with tweezers than go see a play, so this speaks to the kind of show that Lion King is. It's not about the art so much as the "Wow" factor. Your mileage may vary.

I teared up at least 6 times from nostalgia starting with the opening scene. The singing is a 7/10 and the hyenas didn't enunciate their words enough to be understood, but the costumes, choreography, props and the spectacle of the whole show was an AMAZING 12/10. The seats are also relatively roomy with leg room and width, and even the worst tickets have a great view.

I've seen the musical before in London about 11 years ago and loved it. Now we were here in NYC for our honeymoon and just booked two seats as a spur of the moment idea. It was perfect. Even though we were sitting at the back the theater is small enough that you can see everything perfectly! During the opening scene we both cried because it was just a perfect moment for both of us! I had chills multiple times during the entire show. This was the pendant to my favorite movie! The entire musical was just as awesome and fun as you might expect and a little bit more. If you like the movie or love musicals. Catch a show when you're in town! Just magical!

Absolutely gorgeous! What a magnifique performance, from beginning to the end, everything is perfect, the costumes, the music, the voices, the visual effects. I am not so much fan of the movie, actually I didn't even remember it clearly, but when the show started, it all started to come back to me and I was truly enjoying it. Definitely a must see in Broadway, it is presented at this moment at the Minskoff Theatre, right in the middle of times Square. No photos or videos are allowed but it is no needed as you will not forget the experience lived.

It’s a great musical for kids or adults, just make sure to eat or drink before getting there because prices at the theater are really expensive. This play has been on my bucket list ever since it was released. I’m a middle aged woman that still loves everything Disney. I was finally fortunate to get a ticket for this show this past Saturday. I felt like a little girl, I was so excited. My seat was right in the middle a few rows back, very close to the stage. In all honesty I don’t think you can get a bad seat in this theater and if you have children try to get close to an aisle. The moment Rafiki does her opening song “Ingonyama Bagithi Baba” I’m not going to lie, I got chills. All of a sudden the animals start coming down the aisles (recommend child seat) from behind you on your right, your left and it was so breathtaking. The imagination, the vision, the art that went in to creating these costumes. I was overwhelmed. The set was colorful, beautiful. I literally welled up with tears. This show promises everything I had hoped for. It was funny, dramatic, suspenseful and perfect for all ages. A must see. I would see it again… and again!

Seth Rogen would make a better Pumbaa. From a physical performance and choreographed perspective, the Lion King on Broadway is one of the most amazing works on Broadway. What is lacking is an over reliance on lip syncing, acting and originality. Sound: The choice of voices used for the characters is Timon with a strong New York Accent, Simba as an over excited 12 year old and an underwhelming Mufasa. With the majority if not all of the performance lip synced, I feel they truly lost the audience in creating a true Broadway experience that highlights the strengths of the performers voices. Story Line: Not much originality here outside of just a few jokes. This was a complete copy of the Disney Cartoon Movie. There was so much here that could be improved on, from better jokes from Pumbaa to a better connection with Simba and Mufasa. The front top left speaker was also broken and could be heard when the volume increased. Acting: The best performers of the night were the young Simba, Nala and Timon. The rest felt as if they were not truly engaged in their characters. The head movements of the teenage Simba were very hard to watch for over an hour. We get it, he's young and curious. Not sure on the decision for that move. One of the greatest strengths of the digital remake of the Lion King movie was Pumbaa voiced by Seth Rogen. He brought uniqueness and humor into a movie that most of us know too well. That originality and laughter were much needed. The cast looked tired of repeating the same story that has been told since 1994. Set design, choreography and visuals. This is by far the only true strength to the play. The transitions were remarkable, the layout and lighting truly breathtaking. The giraffes walking on leg and hand stilts takes so much strength and expertise. Without these, the play has very little to be proud of.

Thought about giving four stars, but the minors have nothing to do with the show and the organization. Some people around us were a little bit too annoying - talking loudly or folding and cracking their snacks at beautiful or sad moments. Maybe they shouldn’t sale cracking snacks, it’s a thing of art after all. The applause and the atmosphere in general were great though. Absolute highlight!

The show is fantastic. I watched with my family from the orchestra row in F. The view there is amazing. The theater looks bigger in all of the online photos and virtual 360 views, but it is not that big. We would have enjoyed the show from row z. I stood back there for a few minutes before the show started to get a view of the stage. Get there on time or early so you don’t miss the beginning of the show. The beginning is absolutely marvelous. They lock the doors and no one is allowed in or out during the beginning. I repeat, do not miss the beginning.

We had a very large group of almost 50 people and they were able to sit us up in the balcony where we were all seated together. Although we were in different rows, we were still right in front of one another. All of the students who were there really enjoyed themselves.

Amazing show. Great Broadway interpretation of the Disney classic with a few new songs. All of the actors gave a stellar performance, especially Rafiki. Even though the actors wore a mask on their head, you can still see their facial expressions and ranging emotions. The costumes and set pieces were breathtaking. The opening scene was the best! I was in awe pretty much throughout the entire show and felt like a kid all over again! I was also impressed with the musicians playing the instruments on the side. If you haven't seen the Disney movie, you should watch it first before seeing this. Otherwise, you may be a little lost. I suggest getting seats in the middle orchestra or front mezzanine. Also, aisle seats are good too if you want to see some of the actors up close. We paid full price for our tickets ~$169 each for front mezzanine.

If you don't see anything other musical, see "The Lion King" (especially if you love the movie). I saw it few years ago (2011 I think) but it was incredible and I'm sure it still is. Like the film, it's hilarious but also has a universal message. However, the production, the set & costume design, the dancing and the overall performance are what make this musical unlike any other experience. It deserves every award and accolade it's been given and I can't recommend it enough!

While we were in New York, we went to see the Broadway show "The lion king", it was on my wife's bucket list, and it was really nice. I think it's because they have all the props that normally don't have on the traveling Broadway show. This show was incredible!! The special effects are great and really add too the story. Her actors are very good even the young boy and girl what talent. My wife and I were very pleased with the performance. Everyone went dressed differently. Some people dressed in thier going out dancing dresses and some in casual attire jeans and shirts that was women. Now the men went in nice shoes, slacks and a shirt or nice blue jeans and a shirt and boots. But you still had people both men and women in shorts and t-shirts. I dressed in nice boots, nice dark jeans and a buttoned shirt. Dress like You're going to church you know? Either way the theatre is very elegant inside. Over all a good experience.

My tip... a couple times throughout the show, you'll wanna turn to the right and left to catch the aisle entertainment! Also... if you're driving, arrive a bit earlier so you can find parking on the street. The meters are a lot cheaper than a garage.

It's been 15 years since my last viewing of The Lion King on Broadway and I'm happy to say it doesn't disappoint. Songs are as lively as ever and there are several off-the-cuff ad-libs that wink to contemporary pop culture. Set designs and costumes are still incredible. Ticket prices are expensive but the filled-to-capacity theater clearly demonstrates that the demand is still high.

Amazing performance and worth every penny. This is one of the must see shows in theatre land. We have seen this in the UK and its just as captivating. The queues to the performances can stretch around the block at times, apart from the odd queue jumpers its quite a civil experience! After the show you can make a small donation and have your face painted buy the professionals and for a larger donation you can go backstage. All the money raised goes to good causes and charities in South Africa so a very worthwhile cause. Remember to book dinner afterwards as every joint is full due to the amount of additional people in the area.

Loved every minute of it. I loved how they came down from the back in the beginning when the presentation of the baby simba was being done. About midway through the giraffes bowed and the front row could touch the tops of them for a second. They added some slight humor about frozen which kept it fresh. The guy who played Pumba and wore the suit really had a face that made me see it and think, "that's pumba" which stood out and drew me in. Overall it was amazing. All three of my kids loved it. From 4 to 15, it was loved by all my kids

They seemed off balance and not coordinated at all (talent was there , just not passionate ) , I got the impression that they were just “wing it”. Best part of show was SCAR , Timon and the music. Teenage Zimba dancing was very good but not manly at all. This is supposed to be a KING IF JUNGLE. Kid Zimba was also good but lack singing. Again for being BROADWAY , I was disappointed. Kids who ask many questions aloud during the show are their parents responsibility.
