Reviews of Nashville Film Institute

I reached out to NFI for a large project our company needed to complete for a client. Prema responded to my request immediately and set everything in motion to make it happen. I worked with 12 NFI students and graduates and it was a pleasure. Everyone was very professional, knowledgable and patient. The quality of the work was exactly what we were looking for. The entire team, from the director to the editor made this large project of 39 videos in Spanish very doable and very professional. Thank you, NFI.

My experience with the Nashville institute was threefold. First, was the experience of meeting a graduating class at the screenings of their final projects. I was blown away by what the students there were able to create, the effort they put into their work, and the level at which they were all able to execute.
The second was when the school approached me to be a guest teacher...but then COVID hit. In a climate where many schools were closing their doors temporarily and permanently, the Nashville Film Institute was determined to stay open. I was inspired by that spirit of resilience so I came on board.
I went through three modules with different sets of students. I was inspired by all of them. They all were gifted, budding storytellers with a desire to know the brass tacks of working in the industry.
We were able to bring working producers, financiers, directors, cinematographers, editors, and actors who graciously donated their time to impart what wisdom they could from their experiences working in film and television.
The last experience I had was working professionally with a few of the students post-graduation. I was able to watch them place into practice what they had learned while in attendance at NFI. Very grateful for my time there, and especially for the students.

As a parent I was looking for a school such as this. A place where my daughter could learn the behind the scenes of the film industry without the requirements of a 4 year degree. We traveled from Michigan to Nashville with cautious enthusiasm. Upon arriving to tour NFI we were greeted by the friendly owner and made to feel at home. Instructors (who still work in the industry) were open to questions and students and former students were there to share their experiences. All was positive. I am looking forward to the support and guidance my daughter will receive. Now it’s up to her to work hard and develop a good reputation among people in the industry.

I’m a NFI graduate and I just returned from working on a Liam Neeson film shot in NYC. I followed a lead given to me by the NFI President after having all of my assignments turned in and expressing I was still hungry for more. During my studies, I was solely focused on becoming the best filmmaker I could with the skills presented in the program. For example, when I needed to use NFI film equipment I was required to make a detailed gear check out form prior to any project. I’m thankful NFI held me to high standards like this because these meticulous skills paid off while working on a professional film set. I also made sure to never get involved in administrative politics and remain goal oriented. I’ve now used the connections I’ve made throughout the program to earn a job on a another film scheduled to be shot in LA.

Nashville Film Institute is a wonderful place for students who want to pursue a career in the film industry. My experience at NFI was the best experience I have ever had. This industry is hard work, and NFI was a great place to get my career started. I totally recommend NFI for anyone looking for film school without the whole 4 year degree route.

Nashville Film Institute is AMAZING. I attend a four- year university majoring in film but I have been interning at NFI for a few months now and I am here regularly.(BTW, my internship is NOT paid. I'm gaining the experience and connections that I didn't get during my 4 years of college) Based on watching what these students get to do every day, I wish I had attended this school instead. Everything was hands on from the very first day, the connections they make and projects they get to work on are so cool. I was here to see a class finish their final projects and graduate, and I also got to see the new class start. Hands on from start to finish. These students got to work on a TRACE ADKINS music video. Kinda jealolus, not gonna lie! So glad my mom foud this internship for me!

I first had the privilege of working with Nashville Film Institute students on promotional and behind-the-scenes videos for Nashville Fashion Week a few years ago. We were blown away by the final products! The students were well prepared, professional and their abilities far exceeded our expectations. I've continued to work with NFI graduate Marci Badman on other projects and am continually impressed with her professionalism and can-do attitude. I give her total creative freedom and she nails it every time!

Had an opportunity to visit the Nashville Film Institute a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed with their program. I only wish that a school like this had been available when I was working my way through college. I would have been on track with my career much faster...and at a fraction of the cost.
If you're considering a career in motion pictures/television, check out NFI. The curriculum is great and you'll walk out with some real hands-on experience that will be highly valuable as you pursue your profession.

I am a local musician & part-time actor in Nashville and have loved working with the students at NFI. I took part in one student's silent film as an actor which lead to hiring her and her classmates as cinematographers/directors for a music video of my own that I wanted filmed. They did such an outstanding job that I proceeded to hire her and several other students going through the program at NFI that I met through her for the next 3 music videos that I have released. These students eye for cinematography, skillfulness with editing, and wonderful story telling are excellent and you can tell how NFI properly prepares the students for a career in the field. I am so thrilled that I took part as an actor in one of their school films which has lead to a fruitful working relationship!

My husband, Michael, has been at the NFI for only about 8 weeks, but within this short amount of time he has gained an expansive amount of knowledge regarding the film industry. I cannot express how incredibly impressed I am with the versatility of the program. Within the last week alone, Michael has worked on an international music video, a Blues documentary, and even an educational instructional video! Nashville is quickly becoming a hub in the entertainment industry and this program is undoubtedly providing students with the skills and abilities needed to pursue their dreams.

I attended NFI using my GI bill. I found it to be a school that suits my style of learning very well. It is a creative school that lets you be creative in the way you accomplish your given tasks. They provide every tool you will need to tell great stories and provide you with the advice you need along the way. You must be self-motivated in the film/creative industry if you wish to succeed and that is exactly how this program is designed. If you are serious about becoming a film maker and you have a passion for creativity, this is a good program for you. If you want a school that will hold your hand and place your fingers on the buttons and tell you that you did the work the instructors actually set up, find a different program. Because of my education at NFI I have been able to secure a full time position as head of marketing for a company in the firearms industry. NFI gives you the tools and tells you how to use them, it is up to you to put them to work. That being said, NFI has job placement to help you after graduation, I was even offered paid work while I was attending.

I am a proud parent of a former NFI student. My son is former military and so he adapted quickly to all aspects this school has to offer. You get what you give. It is a lot to learn in a short time period. But all of this experience will help to guide you to the area of film that best suits you. My son began working part time in the film industry within 4 months of beginning school. He has worked on music videos, reality shows, documentaries and was also an extra in several scenes. NFI is located in the perfect location for the film industry. I was so impressed with the educators brought in from all over the U.S. This is a one of a kind educational experience. I highly recommend this school for anyone interested in film.

The Nashville Film Institute is the perfect place creatives to immerse themselves into the world of film. The atmosphere of the campus is one that is constructed to stimulate your creative mind. Classes at NFI are held in a small and intimate setting that allows the instructors to dedicate more time to the needs of individual students. The instructors have years experience in the entertainment industry with tremendous success. Additionally, the instructors are passionate about the craft of filmmaking. This is extremely important because their passion helps to ignite or even add fuel to the passion of the students. As we all know, the entertainment industry is one that is very competitive, however, NFI prepares you in a way that you will have a competitive edge. If you are looking for an institution that will prepare you for success in the film industry, then NFI is the place for you!

I work for Go West Creative in Nashville and we are so trilled to have a NFI graduate on our team. The skills, work ethic and professionalism this graduate has brought is beyond his years and we can't help but think NFI has a great deal to do with it. If you want to work in the industry, NFI is a foot in the door for sure.

I recently directed a corporate training video for TPX Communications with the assistance of NFI students and staff. The students were very professional and followed directions well while on my set and I was pleased with their conduct throughout. NFI also provided quality equipment and a perfect space to shoot. They could not have been more accommodating during this production and TPX could not have been more pleased with the product as a result. I owe many thanks to NFI for all of their assistance. I think it is fantastic that NFI sets it's students up for success with real-world opportunities, because in my opinion filmmaking is 95% about forming relationships during those opportunities.
Additionally, I am NFI alumni from 2012 and I must say that I take great pride in the fact that I was once a student seeking a chance to perform on set just like those I worked with on this production. It is my experiences through NFI that enticed me to contact the school and allow others the same kind of chance that NFI once afforded me. It was fun to come full circle!

We had the pleasure of working with several NFI students & one of their instructors on a video project for an event. I was absolutely blown away! Not only was the finished product moving and exciting, it was delivered BEFORE the deadline and the students were very professional and engaging throughout the process. They asked the smart questions before and during the event, acted with professionalism and efficiency at the event and we couldn't be happier. We will absolutely work with them again.

Had the opportunity to hire several interns on a indie film. All of our NFI students, were hard-working, eager to learn and quick on their feet. They took notes and we took their names for future hires. Hope to collaborate with NFI again soon!

My son graduated last week from NFI last week. It was the perfect school to get hands on experience in everything he has dreamed of doing. With out going in major debt. The school moved to a new building which is going to be a wonderful place for new students coming in. If you work hard and you care about learning about what you dream of , you will get that out of this school. This school is growing more and more popular and will grow bigger and better each year. Great school! Thanks Prema & NFI !

At NFI, I went from being self taught filmmaker to a real professional in the Film Industry. This place molded and finessed my skills to where I never thought it could possibly reach. Not only did I get the hands on training and education, but I also met some amazing instructors whom I have to thank for embedding their experience onto me.
I was the New Yorker migrating to the South to learn about film, and yes it was by choice.
What can I say? I wanted a real hands on education that was affordable and not clouded by egos. (sorry NYC, but its true) & that's exactly what I got. It was an intense fully jam packed schedule for 9 months. It was tough and took a lot of dedication and willpower but because of it, I wouldn't be the filmmaker I am today.
Most importantly, being at NFI I discovered my true passion in the Film Industry; Documentary Filmmaking. For one of our projects we had to complete a Documentary based on any topic that interested us. Of course, as the New Yorker that I am, I went on a quest for the impossible: Discovering the underground hip hop scene in Cashville. (Nashville) Turns out, I had opened up Pandora's box and discovered a whole new world that no one had really paid attention to! Next thing you know I'm filming at legendary studios, meeting hip hop celebrities and people who really paved a way for hip hop in the South.
My documentary has made a sensation on the Hip Hop blogs from both NYC, ATL, LA, & of course my beloved ca$hville. I will be returning to Nashville to screen this masterpiece!! I have many projects dropping this year but it all started from this special place in Nashville, Tennesee; The Nashville Film Institute! I'm forever grateful to NFI and to Prema who kept pushing me! I do this for them, for those that are no longer here and for the future generation of filmmakers.

I'm continually impressed by the hard work ethic by the students at NFI. We've worked with many of their students over the past year, but this past week really proved what their students are all about. I was on the same trailer shoot as Kappel and we couldn't have made it through our long week without our NFI guys.
As an AD, you're all over the place on set. You really need a 2nd that can read your mind. If you have to tell them something, you sure better not have to tell them twice. Having Tyler Manuel as our 2nd AD was an absolute goldmine. He took initiative, did anything he was asked and picked up on things extremely fast. I would use him on any of my projects in a heartbeat. He was there early and stayed late. He was also very friendly with everyone and was very level headed under pressure.
We had two PAs, Asher Wilkinson and Darrin Nelson, help out our Art Dept. Our fourth day was grueling. We'd already had a string of 12 hour days and this day was just as long. We needed to knock out over 25 shots that day. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THESE DUDES. They ran errands, filled in as extras, helped stage set, gripped and a plethora of other duties. I've never worked with harder working PAs than these guys. 10/10 would have them on my set again. I wish them all the best of luck and hope to work with them soon!

Simply the best experience I've ever had. I got real world experience as a filmmaker and was able to add work with companies like ESPN to my resume and work on many paid gigs prior to even completing the program.
