It was amazing. We saw a Midsummer Night's Dream and had a blast. The staff was very friendly, we bought shirts and a blanket at the gift shop since it was a little cold inside. Everyone was really nice. Would come back again for sure. Beautiful place and a fun experience.

This was our first play (Much Ado About Nothing) at the Shakespeare Tavern and it was WONDERFUL! We loved the set up - very cozy and we got to really enjoy the show up close. The cast is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 🤩 Great acting, singing, humor - It was a blast!
The show itself and the food options are incredibly affordable and you get your money’s worth for sure.
It was great to be able to eat & drink there and not have to go out separately. All of the staff was so amiable and welcoming. We will definitely be back on the regular!

We went to the 2:30 pm performance of Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood, on Sunday in June. It is a small theater, cozy atmosphere, great seating. The play was wonderful...will definitely return. They also have Buffet lunch for purchase. Paid parking across the street in the Emory Park deck.

I can't believe I've lived in the Atlanta area for almost 8 years, and this past weekend was my first visit here! It is such a unique and inspired experience. It's well laid out, thought out, and executed from the moment you step inside. I love the option of eating and drinking while being entertained by true theatre professionals. The menu had variety (even for this vegetarian - their seasonal ratatouille was delicious). The volunteers are all so cheery and helpful. And there truly doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. We were fortunate to attend The Complete Works, and I don't think I've ever laughed as hard or as often - the cast was absolutely stellar. I can't wait to go back!

First time here, I saw Much Ado about Nothing with a few friends and was really blown away by the whole experience! The building/decor, the drinks, the stage, the staff and the cast are SPECTACULAR and really set a period vibe. The show was honestly laugh-till-you-tear-up hysterical with just enough modern references thrown in.
*bring a sweater, seriously, it's delightfully chilly inside

Great performances every time I’ve been. As they serve food and adult beverages, each performance is even more enjoyable. All seats provide a good view of the stage and the atmosphere is perfect. Performances also seem perfectly timed to allow for convenient bathroom breaks. Definitely recommend a visit!

This was my first time attending the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. It was a delightful experience. The staff are all polite and professional. The acting was excellent. The Tavern is designed so there is not a bad seat in the house.
The food was very good. No bad hot wings, loaded fries or greasy burgers. Real food that is made on site and very tasty. Kudo to the Chef!

Brought a class of 15 high school seniors to watch the Macbeth matinee.
The show, actors, stage, and accomodations were wonderful. Would've been a five star rating if only...
During the beginning of the show we (the audience) were advised that if we left we would not be let in until intermission. Additional "rules" were given.. none of which mentioned leaving the premises.
During the 20 minute intermission, a student asked if they could get a snack they left in the car. I agreed, seeing as the staff encouraged snacking during this time. When my two students were near the entrance, a staff member (blonde hair) yelled at them from across the room ("Nope!! You are NOT allowed to leave once the show starts get back to your seats"). This caused a noticeable hush among everyone and embarrassed the students. It was done in poor taste and if this was indeed a rule it should have been shared during the introduction along the other cited rules.
During the first act, despite having told us not be late.. the staff ushered in another school mid scene. The shuffling and seating of this group was sooo loud and disruptive that it took away from the scene. Additionally, the intermission was a mere 10 mins later. The tardy school could (and should) have waited until then to enter.
These isolated incidents put a damper on our experience.

My wife and I went to see a production of The Tempest on Saturday, November 5, 2022. It was positively FABULOUS. The performers were outstanding, the food and beverages (of which there was a broad array of choices) were delicious, and the volunteers and staff were friendly and fun. It was an excellent date night!

Shakespeare’s Tavern always delivers an amazing experience, but—as a special education teacher—I was thoroughly impressed with the steps they took before their Christmas Carol performance to minimize sensory overload for individuals with neurodiversities. They even provided a quiet space outside of the theatre with crayons and coloring sheets. The performance was wonderful and funny, and the food was amazing. I love this place and am already looking forward to my family’s next visit!
Greg Felzien
First time. Had a great time. The acting wss good and fun with the players interacting with the audience. The cafe was good but not great vegan options. The staff were helpful in making sure we got vegan fare. Will definitely be back.

This was my first time visiting the Tavern, although I've seen it and wanted to attend in the past. I finally went to see the compilation of Shakespeare's works performed by Ebony, O'Neil and Trevor and I had a GREAT time. I laughed until tears flowed. They did such an awesome job!! My daughter was visiting from out of town and even had the opportunity to participate (she "killed Hamlet") and that made her night. It was an unforgettable night for her and myself. I would love to see them perform again. But either way, I will return again. Thank you performer's, and Tavern employees for such a memorable experience ❤️. Oh, by the way, Trevor's monolgue( I don't remember what it was, not too knowledgeable on Shakespeare's work), gave me chills...BRAVO!
Anne
We went to see A Christmas Carol and it was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. There was too much pepper in the shepherds pie and the lentil soup was bland. The rest of the meal was quite good, as was the wine selection. I would certainly recommend this experience.
Sonya White
We went to see The Merry Wives of Windsor recently. What a phenomenal experience! The cast were lively and very talented. We only had desert, bit the apple crisp and cannoli were delicious. The venue is intimate, and gets the audience close to the experience. We're already planning the next trip.
Angela Hayes-Boucher
It was a delightful time! The theater is cozy, so even in the balcony we had good seats. The food was delicious and they served large portions for the price.
The actors did a fine job and really connected with the audience.
Stephanie Neppl
What a DELIGHT! Beautiful venue inside and out, excellent food and service and the ACTORS! The PERFORMANCES! Take us back - a wonderful place to spend a few hours!
Tamra Silvestre
We were celebrating two birthdays while enjoying Macbeth. Great way to enjoy the company of others without having to be the entertainment.
Liz Rich
I have been coming to the Shakespeare Tavern for over 20 years. After a 5 year hiatus I went to see Macbeth and was stunned. They have made so many incredible improvements to the place with areas to sit and now a full bar. The food has also improved and there are some lighter options while keeping old favorites (mmm zucchini bread) The performance itself was incredible. I have never seen a cast so effective at making Shakespeare understandable for a modern audience. Thank you to the staff, cast and volunteers for a wonderful evening!
Anita Sims
Great place to see a great show! Excellent food and a friendly atmosphere.
Meg McNaughton
Excellent show and great food. We traveled from TN to see Macbeth on their pre-release night where they were “still working out the kinks” but dang it if it wasn’t a top notch performance. We will be back for another show next time we’re in town.
Polly Corbin
It’s been many years since I’ve been to the Tavern and I’m so glad I got to see this production. It’s my fave Shakespeare work, and this was the most hilarious production I’ve seen. The Faircloths embraced The roles 100% and the whole cast seemed to have a great time, as did the audience.
Weese Calendar
The plays here are absolutely amazing. Everytime I go I think of another friend or family member I want to bring the next time I come. I would give it 5 stars but I held back due to the food. I think its the best they can do in the space provided but I've yet to find a meal I love there. I'll keep trying though :)
Cheryl Davis
Complete Works of Shakespeare was fabulously funny and entertaining! Great for an escape and awesome for a date night! The food was good, too. Enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks at the bar beforehand!
Brenda
This was such a fun experience! We saw The Merry Wives of Windsor and the actors did such a wonderful job! The food was great and everyone working made the experience very enjoyable.
Jeff Varek
Wow man! That is all I am saying. Tempest was absolutely amazing. I took my 14y/o daughter as we were in town for soccer from Charleston, SC. We both really enjoyed the show. Such a great performance by everyone in the cast. Jeff Watkins was just awesome as Prospero. Ariel's singing voice was amazing and all the spirits singing was spot on! We really enjoyed the performance of Caliban as well along with Stephano and Trinculo. Those three together we awesome on stage!! The entire case was just awesome. The play was well directed with a couple of modern twists intertwined with Shakespeare and loved including the audience some as well. The theater is also awesome. Such a nice little venue and perfect for a play like the Tempest. Staff and food were great as well. Honestly if you want to do something in downtown have a little dinner and enjoy a great show head over for the Tempest. I am also sure that all the productions they put on are just as good! Great job to everyone and thanks for making a lasting memory for me and my daughter!!
Red
Incredible company with a team of actors, designers, directors, set builders, and all the rest putting on amazing shows in an intimate, comfortable space with friendly people and delicious food and drink. I can't wait to go back!
Samuel Thames
This was my first trip to Shalespeare's Tavern and I was absolutely blown away. The ambiance of the venue is great, the food was terrific, and the quality of the performance was top notch. I can't recommend this place highly enough. We will be back.
Marjorie Lattibeaudiere
Wonderful experience for me and my mom, it was worth the trip and the show was great! The actors are very professional and do acknowledge their audience, after the show they mingled and took pics.
Esme Dunbar
I love this place, each time I go it's such a fun experience. There is none of the pretension that sometimes surround Shakespeare and can be enjoyed by seriously anyone, regardless of their knowledge of the plays. Highly recommend.
Steve Kallos
great way to celebrate an occasion (anniversary??). arrive at door opening - get your dinner. Acting was great; professional quality. Food is "OK". get the staples and not something fancy like "Cassoulet". Get the fancy cooking at your favorite French restaurant! We are repeat customers here - always a great event
rebecca siegel
Great acting by all. I was initially concerned that I wouldn’t be able to follow the story but the actors quickly made it easy. A wonderful Sunday afternoon! We’ll be back for Romeo and Juliet!
Joshua Garcia-Barreto
I would not recommend unless you are an extreme Shakespeare fan. The actors did a terrific job however if you’re not into Shakespeare and the old English language this would not be the place for you as I found it to be very boring. The food was okay but nothing to rave about.
Barbara Stacey
The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse is always a memorable experience. From the atmosphere to the food and the original practice plays, it never disappoints. We've been fans for 15 years and counting.
Eva Russell
Excelent directing, excellent play.
The atmosphere was gorgeous, the food very tasty and healthy kind, the staff ( who they are volunteering ) are very professional .
Thank you Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse for such a great time !
Mary Wasshausen
What a great theater! Spent a Sunday afternoon enjoying a great lunch and wonderful play. It was my first time at Shakespeares Tavern. I will definitely be back!
Austin Kovarik
Everything about this experience was wonderful. Lovely space, charming staff, great drinks, delicious food, and stellar performances. This is definitely going to become a regular thing.
Tim Childree
I've loved the Shakespeare Tavern since seeing them perform All's Well That Ends Well in college. My wife and I have meant to attend a performance of A Christmas Carol and just never had the time (or money some years).
This year, as we're beginning to do more things post-lockdown, we decided to make it happen, no matter what and give our daughter her first full experience at the Tavern.
The performance was SPECTACULAR. I loved the use of all the ensemble but Scrooge as a kind of (Greek) chorus rather than having a single narrator character.
A Christmas Carol, with its harsh judgment of greed and inhumanity, is a holiday classic for a reason, but the cast at the Shakespeare Tavern truly put on a transformative adaptation.

We saw Much Ado About Nothing at the Shakespeare Tavern yesterday afternoon, and we loved it AGAIN. We've seen every production of this play that the Tavern folks have done in the last 20+ years, and we continue to be astonished at how they make each production new and exciting. Maybe we know the plot, but we will be surprised and pleased with new ideas that they show us. The other wonderful thing is that every actor in every role creates a real character, even the smallest detail gets thorough attention. Bravo again, Tavern!
Katie Douglas
Seriously the most amazing rendition of Romeo and Juliet I have ever seen! I wish it was recorded so I could watch it over and over. I can not recommend them enough!
Chris Anderson
A wonderful experience. Food, setting, and acting all very good!
Brian Stout
Beautiful interior and exterior. The food is always on point and the performances are wonderful. Great for a date night or for a solo relaxation venture.
Coral A. Norwood
The Tavern has long been a favorite place in Atlanta--it's a wonderful night out with excellent performances and food at a good price. I can't wait to return!
Angela Dodson
We had the best time watching Much Ado About Nothing!! The acting was amazing and the food was nice. Everyone should go at least once and experience this place!!
David Washburn
This hidden treasure, located just a few yards from the Fox Theatre, provides entertainment that is no less fabulous, and food and drink that rivals many of the restaurants nearby. A company of players provide enthusiastic, well directed, and effectively told stories from the Bard. The menu, while somewhat limited, offers tasty options including shepherd's pie, sandwiches and soups, salads, and desserts. The tavern has a good selection of adult beverages, both in the lobby and in the theatre itself. The theatre itself is a gem, with no bad seat in the house. The staff is friendly, efficient, and very appreciative. We've been many times, and always look forward to our next visit and performance.
Jenna S
I haven't been here in years. It's so welcoming that it felt like coming home. The performance of Romeo and Juliet was outstanding. I'll come back sooner.
Clara Morgan Diaz
We had such a great night watching "Anne of a thousand nights". I would highly recommend seeing a play at this quaint theater in the old Shakespearean style. A really great night out. Very talented actors. All the Staff were super friendly and made the night a great one!
Jessica Stansel
We saw The Two Gentleman of Verona last night, and had such a blast! Fantastic staff and volunteers at the Playhouse, from front of house to back. I loved the play, I found it to be accessible and relatable to a modern audience, with a fun dash of extra silliness to make it special. Wonderful performances from the entire cast, though Crab the Dog (played by Yoshi) definitely stole my heart! (Why can’t every play include a dog in a Victorian ruff?!) When we left the theater last night, we both commented that our faces hurt from laughing so hard!
Food and beverages were delicious, thank you for such a wonderful evening!
Jonathan Bonnet
Such a fun little theater! My wife and I had a great time as a date night. Id recommend going on a Thursday night, if you can. Tickets are cheaper, seats are better, and it wasn’t too crowded.
The staff are courteous and super friendly. I thought the acting and slightly modernized Shakespeare was spot on. They apparently do more Shakespeare plays here than anywhere else in the country! The experience definitely shows.
The food also far exceeded our expectations! It was affordable and delicious. I would highly recommend the vegetable curry and zucchini bread! The lentil soup was great too. You can’t really go wrong and should definitely eat there as opposed ti going somewhere else.
I’m sorry that we didn’t discover this place sooner, though we are excited to go back again next month!

An excellent presentation of Romeo and Juliet. Comfortable feeling. You're a good views from every angle the venue. Lots of food options that is very affordable. The performers bring their A game to their show. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu .
David Terhune
Always a great show. The shepherd's pie is perfect...and if you have a need to stay awake for a week straight, try their chocolate espresso cookies.
Justin
One of my favorite places to go in Atlanta. Always enjoy the show and the food. If I could leave a ten star review it wouldn’t be enough. Looking forward to seeing them again soon!
Lorrie Morris
Great production. Very talented and diverse cast. Good food. Great ambiance.
Debbie “Deb” Lewis
I couldn't stop smiling!!! We were at the theater darling! If you want to be swept away by Shakespeare plays with great sense of humor and wit come to Shakespeare tavern you will surely enjoy it!!!
Chip Blankinship
What a great venue! I can’t recommend it more strongly for a great theater experience. As to this particular offering, I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed until my sides hurt and the tears flowed. Thank you, Ebony, O’Neal, and Trevor, for an unforgettable evening!
Jordan Nowlin
I've been to Shakespeare Tavern a few times now, and every time is an absolute treat.
The staff is consistently kind and engaging; the players, wonderfully talented.
My last outing was for a rendition of The Merchant of Venice -- a difficult text that deals with some tough subjects, and yet the troupe handled the rendition with both grace and aplomb.
I'm sure I'll be back many more times in the future, and I look forward to each successive outing!
Alex Kovensky
Absolutely wonderful experience. Ebony, O'Neil, and Trevor were hilarious and did a great job. The food was lovely and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting if in the area and looking for something to fill an evening.
Gem Taylor
I saw Hamlet while visiting Atlanta, and it was a very professional production put on by individuals who know their Shakespeare. The venue is fairly small, but it makes the whole experience intimate, and the actors are able to move throughout the audience. I ate before arriving, only to discover that I could have eaten at the Playhouse itself, for they have a kitchen in the back that serves dinner starting 1 hour and 15 minutes before curtain! They also have alcoholic drinks available, and dessert is an option during intermission. I wish I had known that before my trip, but now I know for next time!
Hahna Robinowich Hayden
Loved it. It's an older building so creaky and it was interesting keeping 21 high school juniors from shifting or pacing upstairs (well, a couple of them 😉). Overall they all have rave reviews of Romeo and Juliet. (At least) One may have even decided that she'd like to try acting more once she goes to college and later. They loved the sword fights and the overall action/acting. And the desserts. I really enjoyed everything as well. Superb showing! Big shout-out to all the actors, in particular he who played Friar Lawrence! 👏
Daniel Keller
Great experience! The show was amazing, the food was really good including the dessert at intermission. The staff, including the volunteers, we're friendly and helpful.
Iteach Hs
Always a great experience! Excellent acting, yummy food and drink, intimate atmosphere, and great choices of plays. Just saw and loved The Scottish Play!
Ashleigh Skaggs
Nothing better than live theater. I'm always so blow away by the Tavern. Food is amazing and atmosphere is like going back in time.
Eric Silverman
Great food. Great show. If you like Shakespeare, you'll love it. Dress warmly, the AC is on high for the sake of the actors
Seneca Rae Watson
Amazing ambiance, spectacular performance, and excellent service. Menu was communicated clearly, and the ordering process was quick and efficient. A true pioneer in Shakespeare preservation.
Heather Deweese
My first visit to Shakespeare tavern was in high school. That was 14 years ago and I have returned again and again. It's such a magical place and its always a good experience.
Laura Barnaby
I have been to this theater twice now; when I plan a trip to Atlanta, I always check what's being performed. It's a small, cozy affair and the staff and volunteers are very welcoming. Can't wait to come back and see another play.
Jennifer Hennequant
Fantastic small theater. They also offer a number of school performances throughout the year.
We've attended during the school day, as well as at night and both were fantastic.
The worst part about this theater is you have to park in the hospital lot and it can be very full at times.
Michael Kelly
Ms. McDonald was once again singular in both roles as Puck and Lady Macbeth. Mr. Faircloth, on the other hand, I found wanting as Macbeth. Unfortunately, his performance was more reciting than acting, and he lacked the seriousness the character demands.
Lyudmila Magda
Great show for the whole family to enjoy. Modern references were a cute touch, and sharp jokes made the audience laugh hard.
Graeme Payne
This is a great place for a fun evening of food and entertainment. The tavern is the home of an excellent "original practice" company of performers specializing in the works of William Shakespeare. They do others as well; last time we were there it was for selections from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The company also does a lot of educational outreach to engage the interest of young people in literature and performance art.
Dinner and drinks are available before the performance, and dessert and drinks are available at intermission. (The cost of food and drink is in addition to the ticket price for the performance.) The best seats are the front row of tables, right in front of the stage. But be careful - you might get included in the action. (It happened to me once - fun!) If you go once you will almost certainly want to go again, and maybe even become a supporter or a volunteer.
Kat Pfeiffer
The "players" were FABULOUS! What a venue! Staff & Volunteers so welcoming! Never laughed so hard in my life! I'll be going back!
Matthew Worley
It was a great evening. Parking was easy to locate, being directly opposite the front entrance. We didn't get any food but the drinks at the bar were very good. The play itself was also amazing. We sat right at the front. They were doing Romeo & Juliet since it was around Valentine's Day. Well acted. Worth the money. My wife and I both enjoyed the evening thoroughly.
Andrew Jacon
Love the Tavern, been going for 10+ years now. Highly recommend if you're a fan of the Bard!
Phile S
I loved my visit here! The cast was amazing, and I loved how some of the lines incorporated 21st century references, which was good for the audience. It is only affordable and the food and bar is also amazing. My server was world class amazing! Loved him! Definitely recommend coming here!
Carlos V
Great show! Watched William Wycherley's The Country Wife. The Country Wife Actress and Doc had me laughing. Some funny play on words. Food was really good too! (thank you for having turkey chili!) Check out the funky beers too, all reasonably priced. It was fun, and a great change to do something different, the whole place is fun to look around and check out! Bring a group of 4 and try to sit mid lower if you can.
Eva Mihaly
Usually, Shakespeare Tavern is 5 stars experience; however, now we went to see The Merry Wives of Windsor, this time was not up to the standard. The place was freezing cold, you definitely need a sweater.
As to the play itself, any high school play brings a better performance than what we saw. I understand understudies have to jump in, but I would expect them not to read it from a book. Some were monotone reading, lost the line, it was pitiful. Actresses should articulate better, at least one would expect a clear speech on the stage. Too many unnecessary movements on stage took the attention away from major dialogues.
The volunteers were very friendly, helpful. They listened to the audience complaining patiently.
The food is nothing to brag about.
Karen Bohrk
My husband and I went to see Romeo and Juliet last week. It was fabulous! Amazing and intense. I thought the actors were really incredible!! The acting didn’t seem like acting!! I felt I was with the real characters! I highly recommend this play. I have to say I was terribly disappointed and saddened at the audience!! This cast deserved an encore or two. Or at least a standing ovation. It happened so fast that the clapping stopped and that was it! It bothered me even the next day. So encore encore to Romeo and Juliet and all the the cast!!
Lisa Olszewski
I Just saw Romeo and Juliet. The performance was wonderful! The acting evoked emotion in me on several occasions. The Shakespeare Tavern is a terrific place to take in a Shakespeare play. It is small and intimate, so you are sure to get a good seat pretty much anywhere. There are food and drinks available for an additional charge prior to the show and during intermission, which I would recommend, as the dinner and dessert were quite good. I highly recommend this place for an enjoyable afternoon of entertainment. Definitely arrive early so you can get to choose your table, as it is first come first serve!
Ulric K
I first stepped into the Shakespeare Tavern 15 years ago when I was a sophomore in high school and fell in love. I've been coming back ever since. The performances are just so much fun to enjoy. Don't be scared away by the prospect of difficulty with the language. They make it so very easy to understand and follow along with the plots.
And if you have kids, the educational summer camps they have are top notch. I wish I had known about it when I was younger so I could have gone even more as a child.
Whenever I am looking for something to do in Atlanta, the Shakespeare Tavern is always at the top of my list for places to go and spend and evening.
(PS: If you can, attend one of the history plays. You'll be surprised by just how fantastic they are. Drama, comedy, high stakes, etc. The histories have it all.)
Steven Stuglin
The staff is the best. We've seen half a dozen shows here and they always impress. The food is worth the price, if limited in options. They have renovated the waiting area and built out a full bar, which makes the 'show up early to pick your table on the main floor' period a lot better than it used to be.
Maree Allred
Our family enjoyed the production of Robin Hood this summer. My only issue was that I had checked to see if the play was family friendly before I decided to purchase tickets, and it said on the website that it was, however there were still multiple jokes with sexual innuendo that I felt had no place in a production geared toward younger children. It would have been so much better without them.
Michel Khoury
We just went to watch Robin Hood and this was by far the best performance I have ever seen. The cast is amazing with excellent performances from top to bottom. The pace is great and the directing was excellent. We always love the atmosphere at Shakespeare Tavern but this was a special night. I hope they can tape this to share with others elsewhere who can’t make it to Atlanta.
Ty Harnar
One of my favorite places in ATL! The building is fantastic, the atmosphere is cozy warm and welcoming, the shows are fun, and the cast is always hard working while clearly loving their work. Good drinks, good food, good shows, and good people. I'll be back many times for years to come.
Q L
Very good food and very friendly staffs. The show was even better than I expected as that price.
Parking is not a problem. There’s. Parking lot just next to this tavern. Walking distance 2minutes. $6 after 4pm for parking 12hours. Anyway, like here a lot. Definitely will come back for other show next time.
Brian Bennett
Attended Romeo and Juliet and the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. It was great. Food was very tasty. Staff was super helpful. Answering all of my questions made me feel right at home.
Be sure to get there early to get seated. Spots fill up fast. We parked in the gated lot right next to the Tavern. After you get your seats, be sure to check out all the tasty food.
F.G. Courtney
My middle schooler and I loved A Christmas Carol and Robin Hood. Such talented performers, and I like the intimate setting.
Herb Busler
We were here for the Robin Hood play. They did a great job. We didn't know they served dinner so we missed out on some food that liked good. No seat was a bad seat. Felt like I was in an old Tavern. Not sure how much the tickets were, my wife bought them. Over all we had a really good time.
John Reh
Play was very excellent and the food was well done it was a packed house and everything went very quickly and well organized thank you for the for the great experience will be coming back again
Brian Hamby
Incredibly funny, well-acted and innovative performance of Comedy of Errors. The food was very tasty. Beer selection good. We were welcomed warmly and had a great time watching the show.

If you like to eat and watch a play, This play can be a good option.
It has student and group discounts. The theater is not too big so the second floor is good enough as well.

I have attended performances at the Shakespeare Tavern for 25 years. I have been a Club Member of the Shakespeare Tavern for at least 12 years. I love their performances (12 different Shakespeare plays, roughly one a month). They call it original practice - Shakespeare to your face, almost in your face, in a small space.
Their tavern menu is limited (usually two appetizers, two salads, two soups, two sandwiches, two entrees, two desserts) but tasty. They make sure to have vegan options. I don't drink alcohol, so I can't speak to the quality of their bar, except to notice they have beer on tap and some bottles, and wine.
Tani Woodlief
Quality performances every time. They make Shakespeare accessible and fun. lt wouldn't be Christmas without seeing A Christmas Carol at the Shakespeare Tavern. They never disappoint. Great food and atmosphere. Great artists. A jewel of a theatre.
Rachel Fullard
Just saw Robinhood! Great little venue. The food was fantastic! I had the gumbo and my date had the Shepard's pie. The ensemble was very entertaining and the cast was engaging. Perfect night. Will definitely be going back.
Marco Ciavolino
If you are looking for an affordable, incredibly fun break from your routine, definitely check out the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. Affordable parking, a great facility, moderately priced great food and drink, and of course, amazing acting make this a most memorable experience. Great for kids, couples, groups, the up close, intimate atmosphere provides an interactive and enjoyable time. Don't miss it.
Comfy Chris
Great theater company, and clean festival dining area.
Sarah Paige
We saw A Midsummer Nights Dream and it was SOOOO good!! Food was really good, and I thought the prices were very reasonable! I'll definitely go again.
Haddon Kime
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great FOH staff and volunteers that work the show. Horrible horrible sound. Almost ruins the show it’s so bad. It doesn’t though, because the actors are also great and Shakespeare is meant to be seen, not heard. I just wish they didn’t take this idea so literally.
Boots wilkerson
We have been to 2 shows now, and have enjoyed each show . The staff is friendly. The cast make the shows very entertaining!
Lori Kelly
It’s a small intimate playhouse. Food was good and the cast is incredible! Can’t wait to go back!
Cheryl Davis
Great place to spend a relaxed evening with food, drink and high quality acting! Highly recommended.
Clark family
Very special atmosphere, food is great and the performances never cease to amaze.
Nate Isenhardt
The play was very entertaining and the staff were all very kind and friendly. The prices for food and drinks were also more fair than I figured they would be. I when got to see a non-Shakedpeare play, which is not common for this place. Can't wait for a new show to give me a reason to return.

I stumbled upon the Shakespeare Tavern while Google searching for something fun to do with my boyfriend. I bought tickets for Much Ado About Nothing and got the Queen's upgrade. It was an awesome night! The venue is small and almost the whole theatre includes table seating. Word of warning, you will be close to the table next to you, so probably not the best place if you are worried about Covid protocols. They have a full bar and you can order dinner if you arrive prior to the start of the show. The queen's upgrade included a bottle of wine, of our choice, and a bouquet of roses. The food was outstanding and fit the evening. We got the Shepherd's Pie, the Cornish Pasty, and big side salads with gorgonzola cheese. We loved the wine we chose, the Annabella Cabernet. Everything we got exceeded our expectations. Great flavor, presentation and portion sizes. Also, the wait staff were wonderful! The only thing that was slightly amiss was that my Cornish Pasty was cold and I'm not one that needs a piping hot dish. In addition to dinner, the play alone was great! There is obviously a wealth of talent at this theatre. Several of the actors and actresses could sing beautifully and play an instrument! To sum up, I highly recommend The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse!
Li Eve
Very entertaining show! Food was just okay, but I had a good time.

A Must in Atlanta!
The Shakespeare Tavern is always worthwhile! It's an affordable, low-stress, high-impact experience of Shakespeare's funny and tragic plays. The convenience, value, and quality of this outing is extraordinary. I highly recommend you bring a small group of friends and try it for yourselves. If you think Shakespeare is hard to understand, you're right! But the Shakespeare Tavern makes this art accessible and enjoyable for everyone. I've attended with friends who speak English as a second language, and they really enjoyed the performances. It's immersive, and emotional, and very, very cool!
Extra props for the gender and ethnic diversity of the players who rely on acting skills to communicate the character they play, whether or not most folks would think they "look the part." Y'all, it's great. Get thee to the Shakespeare Tavern without Much Ado!
Samarth Brahmbhatt
Great place to catch a Shakespeare play while dining. The theater company is very well organized, actors are skilled, and food is delicious. Many vegetarian options.
4 stars only because the seating in the balcony is a little cramped with food in front of you.
Leigan Worley
We went on Saturday, February 12th, to see the opening of Romeo and Juliet! It was my second play and my first time visiting the Tavern.
The atmosphere: While a bit cramped, the building was absolutely lovely. The old building was stunning. The staff was kind and helpful. Moving through the food line was quick. I didn't get any food, but it looked and smelled amazing.
The play: Well it was truly marvelous. I enjoyed it so much. Kenneth Wigley stole the show with his performance as Friar Lawrence. He was truly amazing and I would love to see any and every show he is in. Charlie Thomas and Sean Kelley were hilarious, as well as Jasmine Renee Ellis who cried REAL TEARS at the death of Tybalt.
I very highly recommend patronizing the Tavern, and I hope it isn't long before my husband and I can go back!
Emily Dalske
Great hearty foods that you can dine on during the show. In balcony seating, a ledge for dinner trays is available and provides a hands-free experience. Different desert options are severed before the show than what is available during intermission. It's worth mentioning for the performance that there are no mics for the actors, and they must rely on projecting their voice in the playhouse. This may be an issue for those who are hard of hearing, but the performers in "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare" were amazing. I would recommend this show in particular for a casual and laugh-until-you-cry take on all of Shakespeare's best segments.

Went to a Midsummer Night's Dream. Using an all female cast isn't my interpretive preference. I couldn't tell if that was by necessity or design. Using the all female cast kind of made it feel like high school drama club, which isn't what I thought I was spending my money on. I was pretty bummed that they relied on humor (mostly oafishness) instead of emphasizing the fantastic/magical nature of the play. The former is easier than the latter, but it cheapens the production somewhat. Overall, it was fine for people who like that sort of thing.
The actress who played Puck was AMAZING. Some of the best physical acting I've seen. The other actresses also showed so much talent, and I think that Hermia + Helena stole the show.
The food was really good, an the atmosphere was inviting. A great date night with my husband. We'll be back, but hopefully for a more polished production, with male and female cast members.
Angela Lewis
The play was hilarious and soooo good!! The food was amazing and we had an amazing time. We will definitely be back! We sat on the main floor and it was worth every penny! I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends!
Drew Schneider
It's not easy to find performances like these so it's always a pleasure to visit Shakespeare's tavern. The food is well priced and enjoyable. The plays however make Shakespeare's works not only accessible but also very entertaining. I mostly make it out for the comedies and didn't realize how funny Shakespeare was until I saw a play here
Victoria Vane
Very good performance! We also enjoyed the authentic feel of the venue. Highly recommend for Shakespeare lovers!
Jonathan Peterson
The Shakespeare Tavern is a cultural icon for Atlanta. They're both a company that is serious about Shakespeare (have done 2 complete cycles of every single play, including the really rarely performed ones) AND incredibly approachable. They use actors with comic timing and skills for Shakespeare comedies. They lean hard into the horrible puns and raunchiness that we tend to miss when reading the words on the page.
And they're happy to make it even easier with things like Romeo and Juliet condensed to 30 minutes performed by 2 actors (Juliet and her father by the same one), or all of Shakespeare condensed into a single 40 minute play, etc. We just saw a cast read of The Princess Bride, only using well known Shakespeare lines mixed into the original plot and dialog.
Christopher Lamb
Great show. Great atmosphere. Lots of laughs! Thanks for a great night out with the family. 🙂 …
John Sakers
I cannot say enough good things about the Shakespeare Tavern. Everything from ticketing, to food service, to seating, and of course the players themselves, are top notch. What a great night of entertainment!
Swahili G
The show was enjoyable. The venue is very intimate.
Petra Glover
Thoroughly enjoyed the evening- a fantastic presentation- I was very impressed- great experience all around
Susan Beasley
Took my 8 year old granddaughter here to see A Christmas Carol, as her only frame of reference for it was Scrooge McDuff in Duck Tales. Best parking is across the street in the Emory Hospital parking deck. While not a completely traditional telling, we both enjoyed the show. Seats were great, food was very good, and staff was amazing.
Roy Evritt
The play we saw well performed and excellently directed! The price is next to nothing for a table next to the stage, and the food is awesome. The best deal in live entertainment in Atlanta bar[d] none!
Lisa F. Adams
One of the most hilarious shows I've ever seen!! A brilliant performance from three consummate Shakespearean actors!
Martha Stringer
The Shakespeare Tavern is an Atlanta treasure. When my adult children visit me in Atlanta, a must-do occasion is a visit to the Shakespeare Tavern, no matter the show. We go early to savor favorites from the Tavern dinner menu before the show starts, and then settle back to enjoy Shakespeare at its finest....or the occasional not-Shakespeare delight, as "The Country Wife," which reminded us how good it is to laugh. GO! You will be glad you did.
justin jones
A fun time. Great choice of plays. Fantastic food. A real personal experience. Highly recommend going and eating there. Not cheap but not that expensive. Well worth it.
Jesse Castellana
Saw Macbeth. Had a great time. Food was good too.
Rachel H
Both my boyfriend and I enjoyed the show. The performance was better than expected. It was fun and intimate. We saw the Complete Works preview.
$5 parking at Emory Hospital
$20x2 for tickets *on Friday preview night
$15x2 for awesome food
$8x2 for a large beer
~$80 for a very nice date
Casey Shiver
Loved the performance! Great Food too!
Conway Li
Had a great first experience at the Tavern! All the staff were SUPER friendly. The food was good and the acting superb. Would come back again.
Aryell Garcia
Absolutely amazing experience!!!! my fiance bought tickets for valentines and if youre a fan of shakespeare, theatre, and having a good time this is the place to be. From the moment we walked in youre immersed in the world, the actors we great! the staff was kind and friendly and the food and wine was AMAZING.
Lastly I want to thank the people of the tavern, after leaving I realized I had left my engagement ring and was heartbroken to say the least. Thought I would never see it again but after returning a man named Troy greeted us and told me it had been turned in by a kind woman named Patti. Im unbelievably thankful and will continue to rave about this place to all my friends and colleges
Brooke Sims
The show was hilarious and very audience-interactive. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m glad I went!
Amberly Main
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! I cannot recommend this place enough. We saw Midsummers Nights Dream and the cast was so talented. This was the best play I've ever been to. Food and drinks were great too. We will be back regularly and can't wait to bring our friends!
Diane Martin
Wonderful experience, small Dinner theater. We saw A Christmas Carol, the food was good along with some of the best deserts at intermission. There is also a wonderful small bar. An enjoyable experience all around.
Natalie Bowman
Shakespeare Tavern offers a great atmosphere, yummy food, and tasty drinks. It's so fun and the shows never disappoint. Great experience!
Tarah Blum
I've been here twice now for a date night, the first time to see A Mid Summer's Night Dream and then to see Romeo and Juliet. Both performances were absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see the next one!!!!!
Sattva Noblitt
Authentic, comfortable, entertaing, and good food. Well worth the experience!
Alex B.
As wonderful as I remembered it. The food was fantastic and they gave us amazing seats. We saw the premiere showing of The Country Wife and it was so well done.
Diana Collins
Old Willie would be proud this hilarious performance. and the zucchini bread in itself is worth the trip.
Joe Ballew
Wonderful place! Great performances and great food as well!
Fred Steffen
This was my first time here and I had a great time! The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was excellent! Lots of choices for wine, beer and soft drinks. The decor was interesting, a mix of exposed brick and now leds near the ticket counter. The highlight was definitely the play itself. The actors were excellent! Really pulled you into the story! I had a wonderful time. Highly recommend it!
Ebony Franklin
Been 4 times now, and EVERY time is a wonderful experience! Love it
Rachel Taylor
This is my second time at the Playhouse and it did not disappoint. The cast for Midsummer Night's Dream was absolutely phenomenal. I am so glad they've been able to bring this experience back to an audience after 16 months.
Teresa Colon
Wonderful experience! The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and inviting, the show was fantastic. If you are looking for something to do in syllabus, this is a can't miss!
J Ugwu
Wow! A wonderful unique place for entertainment for family and friends, the ambiance is excellent.
Jim Humphries
Always well done. My wife loves the potato salad.
Andrew Winch
The show was excellent! The food could have better: let's start with warmer, a side salad is more than just lettuce and it could have had a bit more flavor. The service was good and they have a good beer selection on the bar. We did enjoy ourselves for the evening.
Keith Mitchell
I am overjoyed that the Shakespeare Tavern has reopened. The staff, play, food and environment is off the charts. Every effort is being displayed for customers delight 😊. Love the place ❤️!!!! 10 thumbs👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 up. …
Gary Iden
This was our first trip to Shakespear Tavern Playhouse but certainly will not be our last. What a wonderful time! Everyone should go.
Lisa Merchant
Excellent show! Saw Much Ado About Nothing and even though I understood only half of what was said, I never felt lost because of the actors body language, facial expressions, and way they said things (my son called all this "blocking"). The show was hilarious and the actors fabulous! Food was good and reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
DairyKills
Wonderful atmosphere, talented actors, delicious food, great selection of drinks, and helpful staff and volunteers who strive to make the theatre experience special for you. Even a good selection of vegan food - best ratatouille ever. Reasonable prices. All said I can't wait to get back. Try it and you'll love it too.
Nicole Webb
The experience was great! You have the option of buying food prior to the show which was surprisingly good and very flavorful. It is cafeteria style, so you get your food then take it to your table. Seating is tight but doable. The play was 3 hours with a 15 min intermission, a little long considering the chairs, but the actors were lively and interactive with the audience. You have a chance to meet the actors after the show which was nice and unexpected. Overall, we really had a wonderful time and would definately go again especially since they change up the play every month or so.
Nola Taylor Tillman
Saw a great performance of As You Wish It, a Shakespearean take on the Princess Bride. Loved it but was disappointed that tickets for 7 people were bought at once but couldn't be reserved at a table
Matt S
This place is perfect for a wonderful evening. The staff is welcoming and kind. The food and drinks are simple but very good. However, the best is the show. I was able to see "A Comedy of Errors." The actors were phenomenal. The words of Shakespeare brought to life in the most hilarious fashion. It has been years since I've seen such excellent performances.
Glenn Lorandeau
Fun, inviting, and definitely that cozy pub type feel for a laid back evening of The Bard. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out on one of the best theatre experiences not only in Atlanta, but the whole southeast. If you’re looking for a great date night, family outing, or just have the urge to see some good theatre l, look no further.
Bonnie Hirsch
Enjoyed Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare’s tavern. The actors are incredibly talented. The food was good. This is my favorite theater venue.
Darrin Keaton
You will enjoy this place every time you go. A must for anyone who wants a great show, great theater and excellent service.
The Irizarry Crew
Very cool place, wish they had a better variety of food.
Jeffrey Summers
A special evening. Food was great, I had shepherds pie and wife tomato soup and we shared a dessert. Couple that with an excellent Shakespeare production and it was a perfect night
Anna Sass
AMAZING! Words CAN describe how wonderful it was, however I am not Shakespeare, and I do not have the breadth of vocabulary to properly express the genius and talent that is this theatre. The show was incredible! The actors and actresses are spectacular, and the feeling is so intimate and special. In addition the food was great. The staff are all so friendly, and I can't think of anything that could be improved upon. Absolutely wonderful. We laughed, we cried, we haven't had so much fun in years. We will recommend this to everyone we know. We would gladly make the 10 hour drive from our home to see this again, and to bring the rest of our family. For those who live in Atlanta DON'T MISS THIS!
Manuel Huber
Very nice atmosphere, great play, ok food.
Syd Addi
This is one of the most underrated place in Atlanta. I tell everyone about the STP and they never know what I'm talking about, and it's heart breaking. If your considering visiting Atlanta oe you live here and haven't been GO! The comedies plays are our favorite, but anything they put together is phenomenal!
Zach Andreasen
My wife and I have had multiple date nights here now. This is a great place to go out for a night and experience something fun and different that Atlanta has to offer.
august lerch
Hard to put into words how good the experience provided is at this establishment. Everytime I go the performance and food are excellent.
Richard Huckaby
I've been to this place 3 times in the past few years and every time is a great experience. The actors are amazing and the production value of each show is exceptional. The best part is they make Shakespeare easy to grasp. Also the food is delicious, although a bit expensive. This is perfect for a date night where you feel like splurging a little bit and seeing an amazing show
Alexander Smith
Great times, food was a little lacking, but the players were amazing.!
Suzy Life
Was fortunate to get to catch opening night of the new run of A Christmas Carol at Atlanta's Shakespeare Tavern, and it was delightful! Bravo!
Creative staging and ensemble script arrangement, lovely music, lots of humor, and just enough poignant moments to remind us that there are a lot of hungry children in our neighborhoods and very wealthy people that could help but don't care. I cried more than once.
The Tavern was a favorite haunt of mine in the late nineties and early aughts, but I haven't been there in a long time. The menu has definitely advanced! Includes vegetarian and vegan dishes. (The caprese mac and cheese was fantastic!) There's also a new gift shop with lots of lovely things!
Highly recommend the venue and this show! Such a wonderful story, always worth reflection.
Roxanne Daniel
This is a great place for a date but also just enjoying a little bit of theater a small venue.
Laura Wilmot
Wonderful show and wonderful food! Very friendly staff and not a bad seat in the house! A very entertaining evening.
S Neuwirth
A really fun evening! Professional acting and directing brought Shakespeare’s humor to life. And dinner options reasonably priced.
David Ratonyi
Always an enjoyable time with well done shows and refreshments
Miranda Thomason
Before the show, we were able to get a meal. The meals must be catered. The meals are served cafeteria style. I had the Ratatouille which was vegan and delicious. There are vegan and gluten free options on the menu. There is a bar in the gift shop and they serve specialty beers and wine where the food is served. The tables are small and a tight fit. The box seats are just behind the main floor tickets. We still had a great view of the stage. The performance was great. We had a good time.
Mark Embry
Best place for fun Shakespeare plays (plus other plays). Great actors and directors. The staff is courteous and helpful and the food is wonderful Tavern fare.
Tarannum “Tara” Lakdawala
FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!!! I loved every part of the evening! Went there with my family, and had dinner there as well. We had a little mix up with the tickets, but the staff was super friendly and extremely helpful with accommodating us and getting us seats. The food was delicious and the performance was so much fun! These guys know how to make Shakespeare one of the best and most memorable experiences of your life. If you're in Atlanta, this place is a must!
Delilah Kelly
My husband and I went for date night to see Much Ado About Nothing. Great cast! So enjoyable.
Chetara McKinney
Omgah it was my 1st time at the Tavern and it was amazing. The staff was the best. Very friendly, very informing, and made you feel welcomed. The food was good and set up like a cafeteria style. It was a nice experience. You get to choose your seats and a member of the staff escorts you to you seat selection. Although it is a tight space, it is still an experience and a great one. The hiney crisps dessert was the best. The chili was very delicious and the portions are large. It is best to arrive at least 1 hour prior to show to ensure good seating and to get the full experience!
Lisa Caban
I love this place! The food, for me, each time has been flavorful and well prepared. It's not fine dining. It's more akin to going to your friend's grandmother's house for supper. This visit, I had Ratatouille and it was very good. As for the real rain why we are all there? It's SHAKESPEARE and this company of actors nail it! Great cast who are collectively quick witted, irreverent, and love the material they are performing... It's why I keep going back!
Lola Harmsen
This place is amazing! The inside is rather close quarters, but once the show starts, you'd on even notice. The actors seem to love their jobs, and it shows! They all look to be relaly enjoying themselves, which makes it easier for me to enjoy too! I saw a Midsummer night's dream, and would totally see it again. Their take in the classic okay was phenomenal!
Paula Archuleta
A great birthday surprise from my mister. We saw the last run of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The actors, sets and audience were more fun and spirited than I would’ve guessed. I’m only giving it a 3 because the food options were poor and the cafeteria style service disappointing for an event of the this type. The venue could benefit by a tapas style menu with some healthy options. I’d definitely recommend a show but suggest eating elsewhere before or after.
Ebony Oneal
Absolutely an amazing show. Food was delicious and portions are worth the price. Not one single complaint! Bravo actresses, y'all were absolutely amazing. #completeworksofshakespeare
Ford Prefect
Very well built beautiful theater. The actors were fantastic, they brought this Shakespeare play to life in a very enjoyable way. The theater was well staffed and they did a great job. It was nice to be able to enjoy a couple drinks and dessert while watching.
Jason Craft
This is the premier place to have a unique theater experience. The room is intimate enough that every seat is great and puts you right there in the middle of the action. The food is good, but not great. It's prepped ahead of time so they can efficiently accommodate guests during their serving times. The overall experience is fantastic enough that you won't mind paying premium food prices, and remember, it goes to support the arts, so it's worth it. Have a night out on the town that you'll remember here at the Shakespeare Tavern.
Joette Crews
The cafeteria style British food was surprisingly good. They have a good and wide selection of beers and even a full bar. The entertainment was wonderful! The actors were amazing and their interpretation of Shakespeare was modern and easy to follow. I have been here several times and each time they wow me.
Fatima
The prices are incredibly reasonable and the actors are mind-blowingly good. The food is delicious and cheap. I've never gone to a bad performance here or ordered food I didn't like. The area is very well proportioned so even if you sit in the balcony area you can see everything. If you do balcony seating get there early! It's first come first serve.
Mark Campbell
You MUST see this company!! Shakespeare simply cannot be appreciated any other way! The shows are the best we've ever seen and the food is fantastic.
2022 Update! The Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern is back in person and better than ever! The comedies, tragedies, food, drinks, and atmosphere are just the best. Take your friends, family, or significant other.
Mike Adams
Wonderful ambiance complete with authentic decor. The staff was exceedingly polite and welcoming to me as a first time guest. The food and drink was quite excellent, leaving both happy and full despite having a voracious appetite upon arrival. Excited to return to another production, and will be bringing along friends to this true gem of the city.
Patrick Landry
Very enjoyable evening. We saw Macbeth. Tavern-style table seating. Hummus was bland but the desserts were great.
Kelly Zapp
This place is amazing and they always put on such an amazing production and experience. Plus the food is good too before the show! Staff is always friendly and the actors and actresses have tremendous talent! such a great time and experience!!! We will be back again!
Keels C.
Fun environment. The place was cool. Didn't seem like a bad seat really anywhere. The food was good and the draft beers we're excellent. The acting was entertaining. Hard to follow some of the story if you didn't already know the story due to some of the dialect used. But would go again, just would study you first on the show.
Clarissa Murray
I was the first one of our group of 14 to arrive for a preview night. The amazing volunteer staff helped me to secure a box section right away so that we can all sit together and even helped me carry food to our tables. The food was great, I had the dragon noodles and Zucchini bread. The current show, Twelfth Night, was spectacular! The characters were each well defined and we howled with laughter. I would highly recommend seeing it!
Roman Grant
It was so good I request people 2 go and see it. It was so amazing and the plays are really funny you'll laugh your pants off, and they said it was sad but it wasn't it more funny as hell then sad.Midnight's Summer Dream and They had songs that kids now day would understand and like 70s 80s 90s and now it was really fun and good to visit and the actors and actresses did really good which was great and everyone liked, and enjoy, and they had trick moves and break dances that would leave you speechless and make you say wow!!!!!
Karen Wibell
What a wonderful and unique theatre experience. Shakespeare's plays come alive with great performances, creative staging, music and song. The dinner menu has variety and offers a taste of traditional English fare accompanied by a great assortment of brews and wine. The intimate seating in main floor will have you part of the action. Don't miss the apple crisp with ice cream at intermission. Have been coming for a dozen years and also love their production of A Christmas Carol
Candace Corbett
This place is neat! They have cafeteria style dining at reasonable prices before the show. The staff are volunteers. The actors are extremely passionate. Space and table size are very limited and your seating is determined by your arrival. We've seen Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It so far. As You Like It was by far my favorite. This place is great for a date night!
Garett Hammontree
It was a great production. The cast was incredible.
Noah Siano
My wife and I saw A Christmas Carol here last Christmas. The show was fantastic, had a truly unique take on the classic. I was delightfully surprised to see they sold cannolis at intermission! Great theatre, I look forward to coming back for more shows.
Duncan McAllister
Shakespeare Tavern is truly an underappreciated gem in Atlanta. It's a charming theater with food and drink service that's served cafeteria style. The food is nothing fancy, but tasty. There's a large selection of wine (by the glass or bottle), beer and mixed drinks. The staff are extremely friendly, and are volunteers which is great. The quality of the show was great! Will definitely be returning
Martha Daughtry
It is always a pleasure to attend a performance at this venue. The performers interpret Shakespeare in a way that almost anyone will enjoy it, even if they hated it in high school and college. I have introduced several people to Shakespeare Tavern who have become enthusiastic attendees. Serving delicious food is an added bonus!
Mary H
This place is always a good time. They lean into the bawdy side of the Bard and try to make it accessible to a wide audience. The food is pretty good and the acting is reliably great. Going on preview night makes it a fairly affordable night out!
Katie Hallock
I got to see my best friend in Two Gentlemen of Verona last night and I had a great time! The first floor of the theatre has tables where you can sit down and eat. It sounds like their tomato basil soup and their cornbread are quite popular! But they also offer salads and sandwiches. As well as desserts like apple pie a la mode.
The production quality her is great! The sets and costumes looked awesome. And the directing and performances were fantastic! I was happy to see such a funny show!! They handled the comedy with ease and made it feel very accessible!
Susan Brooks
My son and I went to see The Crucible on Halloween night. The show was fantastic! The actors are outstanding, the staff and volunteers are so helpful and friendly, the food is great, and I especially love that there's usually a vegan option for me! This was our second visit and can guarantee there will be many more! It is really a very fun place and I highly recommend it for a date night, a special occasion, or just a chance to get out and support the community and local theater.
Mi Ma
If you live in Atlanta there is no reason for you to not visit this place. I go several times a year and am always pleased. The cast is outstanding in whatever production they are staging. The food here will put you in the mind of a theater goer in Shakespeare's time. The beer selection isn't bad either.
Laurel Dorr
Fun, excellent players, great swordfights. Food was good, too. Went to Sun matinee: tmrecommend for kids
Stephen Beam
The worn, rustic feel of the theater goes well with the setting for these Shakespeare plays. Food and drinks are served so you can enjoy the play and a meal at the same time. Tickets are reasonably priced especially when you consider the length of most of the plays. Seating is a bit uncomfortable but regular intermissions provide relief.
Dmitry Krasnopolskiy
Amazing place! Taste foods and interesting show
Corbett Lunsford
Loved it. Will be getting an annual pass if it’s ever available.
Jim Wilson
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and masterful performance! Definitely going again soon.
Kelly Parry
I recently saw my first show at the Tavern and absolutely loved it! Plan to go for dinner at the theatre before the show, and then dessert during intermission. The cast was fabulously talented and very engaging. Afterwards they came out on stage and did a Q&A with audience members who stayed to ask questions. I love hearing about their rehearsal process and backstage stories! I will be back soon!
Peyton Young
Wonderful venue. Wonderful acting. Great food, although get there early for shepherd's pie. Old world entertainment un the heart of Atlanta that will leave you laughing hours after you have left!
Diana Schwartz
So much fun great show great food
Brian S
Fun and uplifting experience. Entertaining and no one takes themselves too seriously. Food was decent, cafeteria style, all part of the experience.
John Sackett
Terrific stage settings, food, and beverages offered. Actors were very confident, highly energetic, knew their lines and multiple roles perfectly. Based on the 90-minute production, they spoke their lines very quickly seeming to dissipate their genuine passion. "Tempo, pace, and deep emotion" come bursting through more fully when using those three actor implemented methods.
Phoenicia Malcom
This place is right by the Fox Theater and the Midtown Hospital so the traffic sucked. Once in it was very nice. Very medieval feel, low lighting and nice prop stage. The food was very good. The space is very tight though. The chairs are great for the look but not comfortable for the rear end. The actors were good. They threw in little jokes her and there which was refreshing. We did a couples night to see Macbeth.
Carter Grabbe
Best place in Atlanta to see live Shakespeare in my opinion. Tickets are pretty cheap and food and drinks are reasonably priced. I've always found the staff to be polite and helpful and the performances are always high quality and enjoyable. Great place for dates or going with friends! I always enjoy my time here immensely
Adell Anselmo
Absolutely fabulous! The show was hilarious! The food was good and I liked the selection of beer. The strawberry ale was my favorite! I will definitely be back and will bring more people!
Chris Dore
The atmosphere is very traditional. The location is in center of Atlanta, near Fox Theater and many five stars hotel. I came here for the first time to watch King Liar. It was played well. The food was not too pricey. Overall, this is an enjoyable experience
henri johnson
Awesome show, would recommend highly. Lots of old people, but very good for all ages as long as you like theater. Make sure to get there early so you can eat before the show, unfortunately I was too late.
Kyle Redden
Saw A Midsummer's night dream and had a blast!
The experience was presented in full. Food was presented in a period fashion of sorts. The beer selection was quite unique.
I was extremely impressed at the quality of show they put on. The actors we're phenomenal. The timing and the body language was on point. And the music! Performed by the actors on stage!
A must for anyone who ever visits Atlanta!
Tammy Ponder
I had a great time! I really enjoyed seeing a Shakespeare play performed live. The actors were very expressive. I liked the decor and seating arrangement also. The best part was how the actors involved the audience.
Jennifer Ford
Such a fun place with great food. Went on preview night to Twelfth Night and it was hilarious. Have been before and it's always so much fun. Parking at Emory Midtown Hospital parking deck is right across the street. Definitely a must do in Atlanta.
Eric Martz
My wife is a fan of Shakespeare, but I am not. However, they make the plays relatable, and I enjoy watching them here. It feels to me like they stick with the original content, but they allow the humor and feelings to come through in a way that makes sense. Great place, and I highly recommend it.
stephen wilson
I hated Shakespeare in high school English class but this place is always funny and entertaining.
Rebecca Field
Wonderful. Loved it all through college and now my family joins me. They loved it!
David Crow
Saw Comedy of Errors with wife and son. Very funny. Great actors make the early English accessible. I LOVE the Shepherds Pie (It's like a beef version of chicken pot pie) with side salad and good beer/wine selection. Interaction with audience is also fun.
Anthony Hajcukiewicz
Amazing place to see a Shakespeare performance. The food is OK, but does add to the overall playhouse/tavern feel. I recommend grabbing a table near the stage for a truly immersive experience. You can still see the action from the cheap balcony seats, but they're a bit cramped (and a pain to eat food).
Kat Cobban
Great show! Talented actors and yummy food!
Edmund Boys
The place to see Shakespeare, and other contemporaneous plays in Atlanta. Excellent resident company performing in original, Elizabethan style and settings. Plus, good food and ale available pre-performance. A unique and very enjoyable theatrical experience.
lisa smith
went to see bill cain's equivocation and the actors are WONDERFUL, even got a bit teary eyed as well as had a good laugh. the wine from the front was hot and id have liked if they served more than dessert during intermission but its understandable. crowd was easy going and nice mix of people. overall great experience.
kai weaver
The acting crew preformed spectacularly and was very lively. The food isn't the best but you don't come for the food, you come for the play. These actors who perform these plays are skilled and most certainly caught my attention. I laughed, I cried, and I would most certainly come back again. Could not recommend this place more
Zarya Steele
Awesome show as usual...keep it going!
Nidalas Madden
Beautiful place. Great staff. Really a gem in this city.
Sofia Briskin
Good play, tasty food and great atmosphere!
The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse is unlike other theaters. It is a place out of time; a place of live music, hand-crafted period costumes, outrageous sword fights with the entire experience centered on the passion and poetry of the spoken word. With a Ready To Eat Café-Style Menu and a broad selection of Irish ales and premium brews, the Shakespeare Tavern® is a place to eat, drink, and nourish the soul (and you only have to park once!). Each month brings a different play, a different experience. Read what our actors, directors and staff have to say about the work we do at The Shakespeare Tavern® on our Community Blog.. Incredible gem off of Peachtree. The venue and atmosphere is the embodiment of a tavern. Intimate theatre that offers full food and drink service. A wonderful place to indulge in the arts. With a commitment to the craft the cast and directors deliver on all shows. Their passion is seen and felt and if highly contagious. Shakespeare Tavern is a must!
Robin Griffin
If you are looking for something a little different for a date night or family outing, this place is it. You won't be disappointed, and this has become one of my favorite hangouts. It's always fun to see live acting, I adore Shakespeare, and you can wine and dine while you watch the show.
Brittany Taylor-Reynolds
First time since a middle school field trip. I enjoyed the play. The cast w the s so versatile. The food was also delicious. A treat I wasnt quite prepared for.
Neesie Aldridge
Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern is THE one-of-a-kind Atlanta experience—WOW. Outstanding actors, set designs, acoustics—you feel as you are in an Elizabethan theatre! The food is amazing—a lot of care is taken in the planning, preparation, and service (menus change with each show). Be prepared: if you come for a date or event, then you will get hooked on this place!
Michaelle Self
We attended opening night of A Man For All Seasons last night. The play was amazing!! The actors and actresses were amazing!! Standing ovation for all last night!! The food is wonderful as well!!! Will definitely be back!!!
Terry Fortson
My wife and I had a wonderful evening at Shakespeare Tavern while enjoying the Valentines Burlesque show. The venue is very cozy with great views of the stage no matter the seating choice. We will definitely be back for more theater at Shakespeare Tavern. For your own safety...don't try to "help" the bartender! Lol...he'll know what I mean. Highly recommend.
jason ferrell
We have enjoyed coming here for the last 5 years. We have seen most of the plays and the food is excellent. The performers are wonderful and friendly to talk to and watch. It is always a pleasant evening when we come.
Amira M
Great acting! Everyone there did a great job in the “MacBeth” play! The fire alarm went off but the show much go on!
Lady MacBeth was friendly after the show! The actors came out to say hello to the audience! Such a great evening!
The food is already made so you can’t change it if you have food allergies, so check their website for the types of food they offer!
The bread is a variety option.
Matt Kirksey
First id like to say that the lemon samon salad and the pecan crisp with icecream was some of the best food I've had. Now for the play. I watched the merchant of Venice. This was a great atmosphere and the performers were unbelievable. They were so passionate I literally teared up. It was an amazing night with the shakespeare tavern. If I ever come back to Atlanta I will definitely go back. Better than the museums better than the aquarium. The staff were super friendly. I really can't say enough. Thank you so much well worth the money
Matthew Rockey
I've seen 5 or 6 shows here, and always had dinner beforehand. They shows have all been pretty fantastic but I especially enjoyed Coriolanus. There is really no substitute for seeing live Shakespeare. The food is generally very tasty, and a decent selection is available. I find it to be a bit pricey for what you get. In particular, the tomato bisque and the shepherds pie seem to be favorites among our little group. All in all, highly recommended and certainly worth the price of admission.
Jordan Hall
An excellent Atlanta venue for a wonderfully fun evening! We enjoyed half off pint prices on Friday and were treated to a highly entertaining show. The staff was exceptional and we will definitely be back often! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and unique evening in Atlanta!
Parc Elohssa
Don't get me wrong. This place is pretty awesome. They put on a fun show, with a dinner. However, its Shakespeare. Not a fan. I know, you are asking, "Then why did you go?" Truth is, I was there for a friend. Which says a lot about this person, because for me to endure Shakespeare speaks volumes about the love I have for this person.
Now, I am not trying to be a jerk here. Why would I only rate it 3 stars? Why bother rating it at all if I am not a Shakespeare fan? Few things. First, the food. While it is aggressively mediocre, it is over priced for what you get. There was a large group of us who attended, and most of us were underwhelmed with the overpriced grub. There were these amazing Orange Cream Soda pop drinks...but they were almost movie theater priced.
Not for me. But if you like underwhelming food, over priced drinks and Shakespeare, then this is your place.
Ikem Redwine
Took my little sister here and she loved it we all loved it and the food was amazing the play was amazing and hilarious
cjsjr67
You have to try the Low Country Captain's Chicken, it's Excellent. We had a group of 11 and had no problems with seating. Very good rendition of Hamlet. Overall a good experience. Definitely recommend going.
Diane Shleibak
The actor who played Cassius stole the show. Such a presence! Got a chance to meet the actors after the play. Had a lot of fun. The food and wine was good. Expect to spend a pretty penny to eat and whatnot.
Matt Beal
Went here on Halloween to see The Crucible. The play was excellent! We didn't eat dinner here, but we did have desert during the intermission. The apple crisp & vanilla ice cream was absolutely incredible! Can't wait to go back!
Ilya Tsokur
2 Gentlemen from Verona was performed with amazing skill and thoughtfulness! We were not sure of what to expect, but this became one if the gems of our visit to Atlanta.
Sandra Arneson
Hilarious, entertaining, totally a must see when visiting Atlanta. I thoroughly enjoyed my night!
Elgeletha Dizaar
Amazing experience,good food, great show
William Deas
Could not believe any one could make Shakespeare funny but they were great. Food great and very affordable. Loved it.
Martin Salazar
I fun place with suprizingly good food. It's a not for profit institution, which made it easier for me to enjoy myself.
Alek Searcy
So good to be back! I knew the performance would be amazing, but I forgot how warm and hospitable the whole staff is! Thank you for a great night out!
Austin Hughes
My wife and I had a delightful experience, once we found parking in the hospital parking deck, which is right across the street and gained our bearings.
The environment is wonderful and the staff is very kind and helpful! The performance was hilarious! Enoch was my favorite actor during the Canterbury Tales.
I will be returning for a Shakespeare play very, very soon!
Audrey Hill
The show was very entertaining and it kept your attention on what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed it.
Dawn Cain
We come to the playhouse roughly 4 times per year, we bring our kids at least once. The venue is perfectly sized to give attendees a great experience, but it isn't tiny, so you get the full theater experience.
Seating is first come first served within each section.
Arrive early and eat at the great restaurant. They have homemade entrees, bread, craft beers and ciders, and desserts - yummm. The prices seem a tad high, but the portions are huge, and the quality is great.
FYIs FOR PARENTS - this theater experience is great for older kids, but don't come thinking they can just "play on their phone" if they get bored. The playhouse will not allow that, as the light is bothersome for the actors. My kids agreed to try the "Cornish pasty" and found it to be great, they said it was "meatloaf wrapped in a crust". Also, each play has a " difficulty meter " listed on the webpage. Use this to know if your kids will get much out of the play... Or call the box office and ask, they are great at assessing the age level fit for each play.
Cora May
Delightful first play since the pandemic shutdown. All female cast performs A Midsummer Night's Dream. Newly remodeled theater.
J.A. Peterson
Wonderful performances and amazing food. This is a hidden gem in the Atlanta entertainment scene. Intimate surroundings put you right up in the performance. I very much recommend this playhouse to visitors and locals alike.
Kevin Hagan
The tavern is great. Drinks are fine, the food pretty much sucks but that is okay because the performances are TRULY TOP NOTCH! I have traveled far and wide across this fair land of ours and I cannot think of a better value for seeing classically framed Shakespeare done with passion and bravado. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If your visiting Atlanta go see it, if you LIVE in Atlanta or the area make it a regular part of your cultural endeavors.
Ron Wielage
We recently saw Hamlet at Atlanta Shakespeare Company. They said it would be completely uncut (3 hours+) and performed in a tavern-like setting. So we were prepared to leave at intermission. But it was wonderful! Especially the actor who played Hamlet. An unexpected pleasure from beginning to end! Give it a try if when you're in town.
Todd Hudson
A true professional Shakespeare group in an intimate venue with a great vibe. The theater is a replica of the Globe. The pub style food is delightful, as are the many volunteers who make this place work. This is one of my favorite places for a night out in Atlanta. If you can catch actress Haley Platt, all the better!
Lisa Eckman
Great night out with my sister. The food is good. Try the zucchini bread. Best I've ever had. The performances are fantastic. The talent on stage is incredible.
Darin Lewis
Redefines the word "awsome"! Can't say enough great things about this place.
Friends took us there when we were in town to see Canterbury Tales. We expected the standard affair, but they re-wrote it, gave it a modern flair and absolutely killed it! Would love to live in the area...we would be regulars.
Food and drink was ok, but that's not what you're there for. We would eat there and enjoy a show weekly. Can't recommend the place highly enough.
R Cranford
Faithful reproduction of Shakespeare's work (Henry V when we went) which for a while seemed so hard to find. The actors and consuming were on point. Food and beverage are available preshow and during the intermission, cafeteria style. Pretty damn excellent selection of bottled beer, I might add. Food was well enough, no complaints. Would definitely come back!
Adrian Dole
Great acting and atmosphere. The actors were very expressive and really brought the play (Much Ado About Nothing) to life. If you think Shakespeare is dry and academic, this will change your mind. He wrote his plays to entertain people and that really comes through.
Tia Brooks
I took my best friend, who was an English major in high school, to the production of Merry Wives of Windsor in our girls trip. We had such a great time. Not a bad seat in the house. Food was delicious and the performance was fantastic!!
Colin Thomas
The actors put on great Shakespeare productions. The theater is really informal and had a very chill atmosphere. You can arrive early and enjoy a meal and drink before the show is you please.
Elizabeth Sadler
One of my favorite places to go for dinner and an amazing show. Thank you for helping Shakespeare come to life in the 21st century!
Isaac Pérez
Came here for school field trip. We watched Romeo and Juliet and it was very good. The actors made it all seem so real. Very passionate and did a good job executing it. The tavern itself is nice. The location in Atlanta isnt the best but the inside is nice. The outside was made to look like the globe theatre in the UK
Konstantin B (KB)
Oldie but a goodie. The Shakespeare Tavern is still a favorite, after all these years, despite changes.
Their performances are great. I do recommend to eat beforehand as their food leaves something to be desired.
Lila Bradley
Always a delightful evening at the Shakespeare Tavern! Great performance, excellent food, terrific beer!
Kathie Battillo
Terrific food. Outstanding play. A wonderful adaptation of the 3 musketeers. Great acting. The first act was fun, and the second act gripping. Loved every minute if it.
Adam Fiddler
Had an incredible experience seeing King Lear. Excellent food, drink, and performances.
Gail Ortega
Wonderful service help. Great price points on food and drinks. Accessible parking. Fantastic small production Shakespearean playhouse. And the chairs got to go. Seating ie chairs need a serious upgrade.
Cosette Newberry
Got to see Midsummer Nights Dream on opening night. Delightful and hilarious. If we lived locally we would definitely have bought tickets to see it again already.
Alex Hall
My family and I love the Shakespeare Tavern. Show up early. First come, first seated. Enjoy the pub food and full bar with craft beers, then settle back for a fantastic performance.
Paul Forté
If you enjoy live theater and classic plays, The Shakespeare Tavern is a one-of-a-kind experience. The stage is quite large and versatile for such a cozy and intimate venue, and the Atlanta Shakespeare Company puts it to good use with each production. The costumes and set design are well-thought-out, and you can usually tell the performers have studied every syllable of their lines. They offer "preview" nights just before opening with first-come, first-served seating and some possible rough edges if you want to save a little money on the tickets. As with most theaters, the food is pricey, but not bad.
Robert Drake
The New American Shakespeare tavern is a wonderful place to see a show! The actors take the work seriously and the stage is set to look as though you were in England in the 17th Century. The company does the full range of shows including histories, dramas, and comedies.
They do some non-Shakespeare as well.
While they have a wheelchair entrance, it is not the main entrance and is in the back and you'll need to wind your way uphill.
The food's simple and not bad though the Turkey can get dry. They've dessert, coffee, and a good beer selection.
One could drive, but parking is across the street at the Emory Midtown Hospital. Better to take MARTA and walk from the Civic Center station.
Drew Candela
This is a great way to see a play and support the arts in Atlanta. The stage is really close to the audience, so the whole show feels intimate. They also serve dinner and drinks here, so it makes for a great date night.
Jessica Skilling
I love this place. NEVER had a bad experience. This is a great place for tourists but even better for locals. Support local theater and go have dinner and a show at the Shakespeare Tavern. You will not regret it!
Rebecca Mountain
THE place for Shakespeare in America. The Shakespeare Tavern is a temple devoted to the Bard and his fellows, inhabited by devotees and oracles imparting theatrical experiences unrivaled in craft or skill. The number of shows they put on is amazing, and the dedication and professionalism poured into each is astounding. Do yourself a favor and get tickets now.
Kristin Weidick
I have been to Shakespeare Tavern almost every month for the last year and have yet to be disappointed. The Crucible was chilling and Much Ado About Nothing was pee your pants funny. I have bought tickets for a group and had friends back out and they always give me credit for tickets and even put some on a gift card for food. Speaking of, I have yet to have a bad meal: the sheppards pie is always good as is the pear and apple crisp and cheesecake browse.
Candice Weigle-Spier
Great plays exceptionally well done. These productions are the best, accurate and believable, exciting, moving, and funny. And don't miss A Christmas Carol. Terrific food too.
Dan Howard
We saw Henry V just last night, very entertaining . Cast did a great job as always. We have been going to the Shakespeare Tavern a couple of times a year for the last 6-7 years, never been disappointed .
Ludivina Villasana
It was a great experience, the play was great, good was better than I expected and desserts were delicious. I really recommend to visit this place.
The volunteers were awesome, they gave us a great service.
A must go.
Thomas Rogers
One of the most unique experiences in Atlanta! Arrive an hour before showtime in order to give yourself time to enjoy your meal. They have a great food and drink menu
David Hackney
Excellent actors and actresses. Food, pretty good considering the short amount of time they have to serve. All in all a trip worth taking again, and we will.
Craig Osborne
Absolutely great performances and awesome place to see a show. Food and drinks available that really compliment the feel of the venue and time of Shakespear era. Plenty of parking close by (in lots.) Can't wait to get back.
Christopher Eskew
A golden gem tucked away in the heartbeat of downtown. Friendly staff, from the front door to meeting the cast! Relaxed atmosphere, amazing food, easily accessible and a new favorite "go to spot" for the wife and I.
Brittany Campbell
My fiancee and I live this place. Such great actors, violent errs, and atmosphere. There foods great, a bit pricy but worth it for the experiance. We definitely will be attending as many plays of there's as we can!
Greg Nowicki
I have seen an untold number of plays here. All have been a pleasant experience. Be sure to arrive early to eat before the show as the food never disappoints.
Gloria Greene
Totally enjoyed the play Comedy of Errors. The Elizabethan English is somewhat challenging, however the actors portrayals of the story line made it easy to follow. Very entertaining!!! (and we arrived one hour late with the misunderstanding of the start time!!!)
Philipa “Flip” Wang
My first time here and it was wonderful. You sit and eat your food through the acts. Also set up like a traditional Shakespearean theatre. The actors are great and the food was wonderful.
Denise Colon
Small intimate theater keeps you close to the actors. Food was great as well. Plan to see another show next time we are in town.
Dee Lee
This is a modern rendition of shakespere very much a parody. The way the seats are set up you might have a neck cramp and seating can be tight. Actors are high energy and put much effort but this is not a place for a purist. Most of the people here are white. They seem to enjoy it the most. Lots of 90s references and it's all a joke not much of a classic performance. I probably wouldn't go again. It wasn't my style but it could be yours try it out.
Karen Webb
Great time seeing A Christmas Carol with my husband and daughter. Not a bad seat in the house and the acting was very good. Great concessions too. WARNING!!!: However, if you park in the lot next door, BE SURE THAT AFTER YOU PAY FOR PARKING, THAT YOU GO BACK TO YOUR CAR AND PUT THE RECEIPT ON THE DASH OR THEY WILL BOOT YOUR CAR AND CHARGE YOU AN ADDITIONAL $15 FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF REMOVING THE BOOT. It's a total scam and REALLY pissed me off. Providing the receipt where we paid did not matter because my husband didn't read the fine print on the receipt and put the receipt on the dash. What scumbags!!! Definitely tarnished our happy outing.
D Williams (DGWilliams)
The Shakespeare Tavern is one of Atlanta's great treasures. I have enjoyed at least six different performances at the Tavern (the rarely performed Pericles proved to be my favorite). With each outing, the performances have thrilling and the meal satiating (the coq au vin was particularly good). Even if Shakespeare is not your thing, I'd say it's worth trying at least once for the experience.
Josef Myers
Great place for a date night. Staff is very friendly and there's not a bad seat in the house! Make sure to try some desserts in the intermission too, I recommend the apple crisp and ice cream :)
Racheal Lacy
It is a lovely place and so much fun. The plays are amazing and worked hard on and very entertaining. The food is very good as well, and the overall design of the place is beautiful.
Doug Turner
I love this place. Great performances and nice people. I see several performances per year. Spring for the floor seats with a table. The balcony seating isn't comfortable for 2-3 hours of sitting.
Daren Moore
The place is absolutely beautiful and wonderful. The performances are amazing and I love their desserts. It has definitely become one of my favorite places to go.
Jonathan Waters
It's difficult to say enough good things about this place. Loved every show that I've seen here. It's a terrific place to encounter some new Shakespeare and fall back in love with some of your favorites.
Kat B
I have been going here to years, and I always have had a wonderful time. The food is decent. The tickets are a good value. Arrive early because the seats are not assigned, and are given in a first come, first served basis.
heather lasseter
Small cozy atmosphere. Actually feel as if a participant in the show. Food and adult beverages available for purchase. Great performance. Highly recommend!
Mark E-W
Excellent, Exellent EXCELLENT. Not the Globe but close. Food choices varied and wonderful. Acting SUPERB. We'll definitely go again next time we're in Atlanta.
Karen Cannady
Shakespeare Theater is a wonderful intimate theater. The performances by professional actors are always first rate. The food is good too. It's a great place to go in Atlanta.
Ryan Mulderig
The Tavern has been hitting it out of the park as of late. Barrymore, while not well known, was well worth seeing. Geoffrey Watkins did a fine job of bringing a complex person to life. Bittersweet, much like I suspect John Barrymore's life was.
Their production of Hamlet was absolutely first rate. Hamlet was portrayed in a particularly noteworthy fashion. Lee Osorio present the famous soliloquies with a sense of discovery. All to often, when To Be or Not to Be starts, the light dim a little and spot focuses, then the actor declaims the speech rather than performing the role. Similarly, he did a great job of presenting how Hamlet was trying to convince others that he was out of his mind. It made the outstanding performance of Shelli Delgado as Ophelia resonate. Ororio's delivery of "get thee to a nunnery" made her heartbreak incredibly powerful.
James E
Twas Amazing. A great experience. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic about the job. The actors were hilarious and I would love to go again!
Tripp Cox
Great performance. Eat beforehand.
Jeremy Rogers
The Bard as he was meant to be experienced... in a crowded theatre with a tall beer! (Or three)
I've been going to shows here for the past 15 years, and have never been disappointed by a performance.
Kathryn Patterson
A wonderful place for a gathering of family and friends. I love the Shakespeare Tavern; I love the performances, the actors, the food, and the volunteers. You cannot go wrong when you visit the tavern.
Barbara Ferdinand
Really enjoyed the experience. The play was very professionally done. The actors were excellent. The seating was tight but all good seats.
Kenneth Gaughan
The performance was fantastic and the tavern itself was very warm and comfortable in general. I would definitely recommend going out of your way to see a performance if you're in Atlanta.
John Steeber
Flew to Atlanta in November of 2013 to meet someone I met years ago and turned down due to my having been in a committed relationship. I wasn't sure if it would work out, but when she insulted Shakespearian plays and became an all around nut job, I suited up and headed to the Tavern. Glad I did. The acting was top notch (King Lear) and afterward the cast came out and we spoke for a bit - Informed them that the Orlando Shakespeare Theater doesn't REALLY do Shakespeare all that much... so I would gladly drive 9 hours (or fly) to see another production in ATL. The food I had was excellent and I am a picky Williams-Sonoma/Cooks Illustrated/Anthony Bourdain food snob. It arrived in front of me in a timely fashion, it was flavorful, attractive, yet simple and dollar for dollar.. at the movies I would have spent more on the "Large Combo" with a lot less to brag about afterward. NOTE: They say you can't leave the theater until the end of the play, but something told me I may not have locked my car (in the lot next door)... They made an exception during intermission... Thank goodness I had locked it, the area is not the best for hanging out after dark.
Daniel Marcos
A must-see in Atlanta, and an excellent date. I recommend buying tickets online in advance as it does tend to get full. The food is expensive and not great, but there's plenty restaurants around--I would dine somewhere else, then go there for a performance.
Johnson McCool
Great intimate theater, decent food, and always a great time. The cast has a whimsical love of their craft, and there's even a convenient place for a smoker to step outside.
James “Alan” Sellers
We try to attend at least once every time the swap to a new play. The shows are hilarious! The food is great too, it makes for a great evening.
Emily Rhoades
This place is so much fun. The actors fully commit and the entire experience is exactly what you want from a Shakespeare play.
Timothy Rhodes
Truly a unique and exceptional theater. Performances are always fantastic, atmosphere and aesthetics are warm, and the food is fantastic. Can't recommend it enough.
Steven Just
Arrive one hour before the show start time and be prepared to dine (and have a drink). It was a stellar performance with the perfect amount of humor - I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Richard A. Causby
The actors and crew are very passionate and always put on a 5 star production. Come early and enjoy a superb meal and pint of stout!
T. Martin
A very enjoyable evening out. Good food and drinks and a great show .
Barbara Jankel
Some actors spoke their lines far too rapidly to be understood. Also more projection skills are needed. Women cast in male roles strains credibility, but I realize the necessity to do so.
Amy Bonecutter-Leonard
I have been fortunate to see productions put on by Shakespeare Tavern since I was a kid when they came to my high school to do workshops. I can go there again and again (even seeing the same shows) and it is another great experience every time!
Daniel Brown
I love the Shakespeare Tavern. It's one of the great, long time theatres in Atlanta. The venue is great. The volunteers are great. The performances are of the topmost quality.
Michael Flood
Maybe too "hidden" a gem in Atlanta... The neighborhood isn't great but the quality of the experience here more than makes up for it! If you love live plays or Shakespeare, you'll love the Shakespeare Tavern!
MarbleLinda Marbleous
The actors at the Shakespeare Tavern are fantastic! The costumes are amazing! The music - when there is music in a play - is superb! And the food is wonderful!
andrew deloach
Watched twelfth night at the tavern and it was incredible! All the actors were well versed and kept us laughing and engaged the entire time!
Eddie Snipes
This is my favorite place to go. The food is good, and the acting is great! I come every chance I get. The Shakespeare comedies are the best.
Amanda Adams
So fun! Great performances, unique atmosphere. The food is delicious and they have options for most dietary constraints.
Daniel Pope
We see a Christmas carol her every year. We find it more charming and intimate than the larger, more grand productions. Great service and food too.
Frank Ditore
Great place for a intimate live play and great food served cafeteria style. Arrive early for best seats and enjoy your food before the show.
Curt Shumard
Fun night. Good show. Great staff & service.
Barry Cranford
Great food, amazing staff, fantastic cast. If you love a well put together play with a great atmosphere this is a must do in Atlanta.
Kevin & Holley Priger
The most unique entertainment option in Atlanta! Unpredictable. Creative. Great food and beer! Love every show we've seen.
Beth
Love love love this place! It's unique and always a good performance. I got to perform two Shakespeare plays with their company in high school there myself and it was great.
Curtis Marks
We've always had a great experience here. The Shakespeare plays are very well done. I have recommended this playhouse to others frequently.
Alena Alasdar
I love this place - wonderful actors, great plays. Sadly I can't recommend the kitchen. Suggest eating elsewhere.
Elyse
I adore this place. It's cozy, it's entertaining. The food is great. There is everything to love about it and I encourage everyone I know to check out the Shakespeare Tavern.
Ashley Young
Great Christmas Carol show and the food was amazing. Also, if you get the Kings Package you can always get unlimited macarons!!
Elena Atanasova
The concept is great! The food was ok, the actors were not great but it's still something different to do rather than a regular old dinner.
Leonardo Negron
Wow. I loved this place. At first I was skeptical because there was a line and I would think they would benefit from online printing. The food and the performance wowed me. I was expecting mediocre food and performance but I was happily wrong. Love this place.
Cindy Battles
Love it. Talented actors, great food, amazing vibes.
Casey Tripp
Came to this theater in 1998 and revisited in 2018. The production we saw was amazing. Recommended for any fan of the Bard.
Cheryl Lindstrom
I have visited many times an I m always delighted. It feels like Shakespeare that is meant to be enjoyed rather than Shakespeare that is merely meant to be admired from afar.
Andy Hopper
Dinner theater performed by a dedicated troupe of actors. Don't let the name fool you; they aren't exclusively Shakespeare!
Gordon Geise
Never thought I would actually enjoy Romeo and Juliet, that pair of eye-crossed lovers--but ASC's production is really effective. Funny up front, deadly serious (at one point terrifying) in the second half.
Duchess Veronica Warner
Amazing rendition of A Christmas Carol
Kevin Priger
One of our favorite places for live theater in Atlanta. Great food too! The volunteers are friendly and make it a great experience.
Megan Roberson
One of our favorite Atlanta spots! A wonderful, welcoming environment, with talented actors, delicious food and drinks, and many tears and laughs to be had.
Amanda Durr
Awesome actors and actresses are part of the acting company here! The menu is awesome! The food is consistently awesome!
Laura Diers
The actors were superb and the audience interaction made you feel like part of the show! My 9 year old had an absolute blast!
Sandy Weaver
The bard himself would be proud of the tavern and the troupe. Shakespeare with a side of great food and grog. Well, ok, beer and wine, not grog. :)
Emily Anne Boyter Hager
I love the Shakespeare Tavern so much. The actors are amazing, the food is scrumptious, and there's not a bad seat in the house. Love. It.
Waseem Al-Shurafa
Julius Caesar was well acted out. I liked my Ocean Spray Cranberry juice too. Overall fun day.
Will Jenkins
A true gem in Atlanta, and a really great place to take a date. A small venue, it is best to eat beforehand. Atlanta needs this, support them
Catherine Martinez
I wish there were more places like this around town. Fast, efficient, and courteous service. The bill was appropriate for the quality. I can see why they have a lot of positive reviews.
GamerGirl
Absolutely fantastic! The cast is amazing, and the venue is beautiful! I will be returning and highly recommend!
Talon Talon
Had the bbq pulled pork to eat, lot spicier than any other pulled pork I've had. Saw Taming of the Shrew, don't really like that play in general but the acting was authentic.
Shannon ITConsulting
We had such a great time! The staff were great, food was delicious and the performance was wonderful. I will definitely be back!!
Peter B. Slayer
We saw "The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged" It was a fun show. The food and drink were good at reasonable prices. We will back.
Brent Sattelmeier
Great shows, volunteer staff, friendly service. Some menu items run out, so get food early if you can.
Jennifer Davis
Wonderful experience! Excellent food, the play was beyond exceptional. I cannot recomend this place enough.
Michael Coates
Great venue .. great show. Amazing volunteer staff. Please go to enjoy (and tip).
Michael Kallstrom
I volunteer here every chance I get, the food is always amazing, and the plays are just as good, my only regret is not being able to volunteer here more often
Bellamy Watson
I loved this venue! I need to come back and see a play here some day. I also really want to act on that beautiful stage.

Went there for a field trip to see A Midsummer Night's Dream and it was amazing! I loved it! Great cast and crew!
Morgan Szymanski
This place is fantastic, the shows are great and I love the food. It's a little pricey, but that's always the case with professional theater.

One of my favorite theater companies. They make Shakespeare entertaining and understandable. Acting is 5 stars. Food is 4ish.
Jennifer Garlen
Love the fun atmosphere and great performances! Go early and eat dinner. The pork loin sandwich is excellent.
Heidi Campbell
ALWAYS the best!!!!! Never liked Shakespeare until I found this place! Exceptional talent!

christopher funte

Cool atmosphere, good beer/wine selection, slightly overpriced but good food. The performances are always creative and funny (where appropriate, of course).

Amazing experience, tons of gluten free options on the menus, can't think of a single bad thing about it! Would highly recommend.

Intimate venue that's good for both dates and friends. I recommend knowing the story before coming in- it may be difficult to understand otherwise. Also, it has good prices.

Country Wife = Very witty - well acted and well-cast.

The best Shakespeare experience around. I try to take my students every year and they truly enjoy the shows. GO!!

Attended a play and had dinner. Good acting and good food. I wish the actors wore mics as sometimes the volume was challenged!
Caroline Sutton
Cozy and affordable. Gives their plays a personal feeling. Food is good but could definitely stand to be warmer. Friendly staff!
Josh Freeman
This is possibly one of the best Shakespeare theatres in the world, and I've seen the Royal Shakespeare company in London. While I think the comedies are best, I've never been disappointed.

Love the Tavern, gives you a timeless sense of theater and the actors are always engaging. Don't go just for the food.

I have a season pass, and I love coming here every month for the Shakespeare plays. They also have shows by other groups, which are fun also.

Really nice place, actors were amazing! They have a bar and gift shop as well.

This place is fantastic. You are so close to the play and actually involved in it. The food is not bad either.

I was great. I didn't have any of the food, but it looked and smelled great. The actors were great.
