Reviews of Woodland Park Zoo
Joseph Rosenberg
This is a very lovely medium sized zoo. They grounds are very well kept, variety of animals is great, very kid oriented, but adults should have a lot of fun too. The food is not anything truly special, but it is not bad. They have picnic areas for you to use and saw many families using them which is great to see. Lots of viewing areas, and you get really close compared to 98% of other zoos. That is truly what sets this park apart from others. You might not see every animal, but those you do, wow you see great and kids just light up instantly being nose to nose with an orangutan or a leopard looking right at you 10 ft away. Definitely a must visit for tourists and I also see why so many locals are members.

We absolutely LOVE this zoo! I remember going to this zoo when I was a little kid, and now I have been taking my kiddos since they were babies! This is a Great place for absolutely anybody and everybody of all ages. There is So much to see and so much joy and happiness in one place! It really is such a beautiful zoo. There are so many lovely animals, a beautiful flower garden, a fun carousel ride, many food and drink options, places to sit, have a picnic, play structures for the kids to play on and so much more! They have they greatest butterfly exhibit, it is my absolute favorite! All the staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable. One of the things I love about This zoo is that it is such a huge place it doesn’t ever seem crowded. You could spend all day here. The food is pretty expensive, so I suggest packing a lunch, drinks and some snacks and have a picnic to save some money! There are so many great photo and learning opportunities here. You can learn so much together and have tons of fun! A great family friendly adventure and environment.

Lots of fun. I think we enjoyed visiting this zoo more than others. We went during the week on a day where they were doing Zoo Tunes (though we didn't stay for the show unfortunately). It wasn't nearly as busy as I'd expected for a summer afternoon. We didn't see all of the animals but the ones we did get to view seemed to have pretty nice enclosures, larger than ones at other zoos.

As a homeschooling mom of two having a membership to woodland park zoo is vital. We get to learn so much about animals, our environment and what we can do to make our world a better place for not only animals but us as well. We get to communicate with so many zoo keepers and get first hand information about all of the animals and what they’re up to. We have made countless memories at the zoo that mean so much to me as well as my children. I have captured so many of the highly sought after animal photos because we are members and visit often so I learn each animals routine and where their favorite spots/things to play with are in their enclosures. My family could spend all day in this area of Seattle. We enjoy starting off at woodland park zoo then eating lunch (I pack a picnic) in the woodland park zoo rose garden (which also has a music/sensory garden area for the kids) then we will hit up west woodland park playground and as a bonus sometimes on a hot summer day we will hit up Al A mode pies right there on the corner next to the park for some pie and ice cream (why not support a small local business when you can).
When you’re a zoo member you get so many perks like discounted parking, free animal feeding encounters and free carousel rides as well as zoo store discounts and food discounts. We have brought so many of our friends in for free to the zoo with my family passport membership. I have been a member for 4 years going on 5 and there is no way I could go without a membership to Woodland Park Zoo.
***As of 5/2/22*** The carousel is back open! Also, My favorite butterfly garden at the zoo, Molbaks butterfly garden is scheduled to open MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!
In all, I highly recommend Woodland park zoo to everyone young and old. It’s a great place for a quiet stroll on a weekday and a busy weekend day filled with friends and family.

Hands down cleanest zoo I’ve ever been to. Affordable price and the place is huge. I went on a Thursday and there was not a lot of people there. Beautiful park area to play, so many animals to see. We spent over 3 hours. You could easily spend the whole day. Take your family it is worth every penny.

This is a decent zoo with nice walkways and landscaping. The inside buildings and carousel are closed at this time. The exhibits and enclosures are in good condition and roomy for the most part. We enjoyed the maned wolf and the baby gorilla. There were other babies scattered throughout the zoo.
The Rainforest Food Pavilion made a really good cheeseburger. It appeared to be hand smashed and had excellent flavor. The fries were actually very large potato wedges and were seasoned well.
We took our time and were able to see everything that was open in less than two hours. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Such an amazing experience in Seattle! The zoo is so beautiful and meticulously kept. Each section has its own vibe and the animals are all stunning. I’d highly recommend coming early during the day and experiencing the whole zoo at your own pace walking from section to section. All the workers/volunteers I met during my visit were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be visiting again!

Fun day at the zoo, definitely got my steps in!
We went on a weekday and it was a pretty quiet day. It’s also off peak season now and the zoo closes earlier I believe. Days are shorter and it’s colder so the animals tend to sleep earlier and try to get warm. We still had fun and got to see pretty much everything, minus the lion.
The bear section was the highlight, first a huge brown bear appeared made it’s way near us and jumped in the water and played for a bit and later on two different younger bears were out and were playing together while eating lettuce.
Definitely recommending to check out the zoo and you’ll get over 10K steps if you try to cover everything!

What an amazing visit! The weather was perfect and all of the animals were out on display. The majority of the bird exhibits were closed due to bird flu concerns but it detract from the overall visit.
I love how accessible the zoo is, easy access for all ages and abilities. There was some great animal experiences that the zookeepers did, learned a lot about rhinos.
I will for sure come back again, and not wait so long between visits.

The zoo is laid out well with a lot of shade. It's easy to navigate with strollers and scooters but the viewing areas are very small. Some of them had bushes overgrown so it was hard to see anything. All of the birds are not out because of bird flu, bears were closed down as well. Overall we did not see very many animals or they were far away. If you want to see an animal up close you have to pay around $10 to feed them. The glass in the otter exhibit was hard to see through. They used to have a lot of snack places but we only found one coffee stand and a few snack stands. Overall the zoo needs a serious makeover to accommodate all the people. $27 a ticket is rather expensive for the number of animals we saw.
Busy Bee
Huge place. Many different animals and birds and creatures to gaze at. Very educational and informative. Great place to walk and explore. Great shops. souvenirs priced a bit high but worth checking out. Lots of various things to interact with. You can also rent scooters if you have hard time walking. Wished I would of rented one for me, but gave me a good workout. There's so much to learn and see.. Would go back and recommend.

Such an enjoyable and pleasant zoo! Coming here is a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busy Seattle life. The zoo staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable, watching them care for the animals and the ground is a true treat!
Some of the more exciting attractions are the giraffes, they are so playful and active, the Lions who, if you're lucky you'll get to hear just roar and roar and then the elusive snow leopards! All these majestic creatures, the helpful and courteous staff and the wonderful grounds make this a must visit for anyone visiting or living in the Seattle area.
Don't forget while here to support the zoo with a few souvenirs, some yummy treats and drinks and of course a membership or donations, it's a great opportunity to be involved and show your appreciation for all the Zoo does!

We went to see Zoo Lanterns. What a beautiful array of animal lanterns. From birds to dinosaurs. They also had a fire pit, hot chocolate, pizza, burgers, beer, wine. It was a great experience. It seemed like it ended too fast. It looped around the whole main loop. It made you wonder where were the animals! If you get a chance to see these lanterns around Christmas time, go see them. The ticket price is over $30 a piece but worth it. It goes to a good cause!
Fancy T
My sister was reluctantly agreeing to go with me to the wild lantern’s. Once there and walking around she kept telling me how glad she was I “talked her into coming” it is well done very nice to see. We went at 4:30 not a large crowd and were able to see all the lanterns at a leisurely pace. Definitely worth the money to go and see no matter your age. Although I did see a few small children in strollers that were scared of the large animal lanterns

This was the first trip to Seattle for my wife and I. We had purchased the City Pass and it was totally worth it. We had talked about doing a few different activities when in Seattle and I feel that having the city pass made it so much easier to accomplish. The Woodland Park Zoo is as amazing, the park was very well kept, the animal exhibits were beautiful. I think our favorite exhibit was the gorilla habitat. There’s something about being at a Zoo that makes me feel like a kid again!!!
Callisto Von
Such a beautiful zoo and so many beautiful animals!! The people were kind and informative on the animals and the little signs showing paw prints and facts about the animals made it much for fun! Although there is a downside! The maps are very confusing, my family got lost many times! And spent a good chunk of our time trying to work around the zoo, but that's all I have, made many good memories!
gina englet
I usually love the zoo. I think the animals are well cared for and comfortable. But, I did not expect to pay almost $30 just for myself and almost $20 for my kid to spend a day walking around to NOT see any penguins or Flamingos due to the bird flu. There were exhibits uninhabited and ones you had to "sign up" for at least a day ahead. What? I love the animals. But, the enclosure for the rhinos and hippos look way too small. At least the African safari is an open piece of land that the zebras and giraffes can wander freely. Still, the employees are nice and helpful.
Bill Nogg
Went to the zoo with the family. All the staff was super friendly and willing to help. The zoo facilities was clean and inviting. Lots of fun areas for the kids to run around and play in between visiting the animals. Lots of interactive and educational components at each exhibit. We didn’t get to see most of the birds because they had the areas closed.
Traditionally Modern Food
We prebooked our tickets online. They have a separate queue for online booking so we could able to get in without a wait.
We reached around 9:30, they had ample parking lots. Have to pay for the parking but we could able to find many free spots.
It took around 3 hours to finish the entire zoo.
Stroller-friendly zoo. also they had a lot of benches to relax.
Kids enjoyed the carousel ride. Need to pay extra for the carousel.
Clean zoo but I felt there aren't many animals. Not sure if it is worth the entree free.
Brittney Thornton
The zoo is well laid out, good parking, cool attractions for kids. I recommend the play place for smaller kids to let them run around as a nice break. There's a few places to eat soread throughout the zoo, nice so you can stop when everyone is hungry and not be 30 minutes away when you realize it's time.
It's expensive, of course, and the food is fine. You have to pay for parking also but there's two lots with good accessibility. Overall a nice place to take kids, the holiday light events are really cool too. The pictures are from zoo lights and wild lanterns.
Marissa Kuncheff
Great zoo. Small and well maintained with a variety of animals in humane exhibits (lots of space and privacy from visitors). The paths all around the zoo are well shaded so it's a great place to walk around with little ones any time of year. If you become a regular I highly recommend one of their season passes as they are a great deal.
Sheila Dilley
Best zoo in Washington! Woodland Park is clean, there is a lot to see and on our trip there were multiple volunteers for different exhibits there to give us additional information. The animals were up close and out which was super fun! I also really appreciate that the zoo takes care of the animals well. The birds were all away due to an outbreak of some flu but I just appreciated that the priority was in health of the animals!
If you are local and plan on going more than 2 times in a year and getting food, snacks or any gift shop item - I highly recommend the annual membership! It’s $65 for the year and you can have two people join for half price!

The woodland park zoo is a nice place to go with kiddos. I went on a Saturday afternoon. It was fun! I loved the kangaroo, penguins, giraffes and butterflies! And the highlight for me was the very charming orangutan!
It isn’t the best zoo I’ve been to, but this zoo is still fun and a great place to take kids! 🙂
Alexis Morales
Our first time going and it was quite the experience. We arrived early in the morning and I’ll say that in the beginning it was looking to be a disappointing trip. I say that because the majority of the animals were no where to be found. So personally next time I’ll be coming a bit later when the animals are in their spots because while we were heading out we caught a glimpse of them. It’s perfect decent, if it’s your first time. Pack lunches!! Especially if you have little ones, they have a resting area to eat which was nice. It’s a bit pricey but worth the money and walking. :)
Julie Garmon
May not be the biggest zoo, but the attention to details are never lacking. The foliage is amazing and one of my favorite things about visiting. My 2 year old has had an up and close encounter with the lions and jaguar twice now, which he loved. Our girl loved the butterfly room. Both of them enjoyed the carousel. And the food is top notch. Definitely better than what you'd expect from a zoo!
Paola Vallejo (Pao)
Amazing activity for any weekend or even weekdays. The zoo is really nice, be prepared to walk. All the animals look happy.
🍽 They offer food and drink options inside
🛎 You can buy tickets there or pre-pay them at their website
🚻 Bathrooms all around the park
🅿️ There is plenty of parking but it does have a cost.

I love zoos and this one was fantastic. The exhibits for the chimpanzees, gorillas and bears were highlights for my son, aged 12. We loved our day here and used the City Pass to come here, the Aquarium, the Space Needle and a harbor tour. Lots of walking. Great volunteers.
Whitney Kraus
We enjoyed our time at Woodland Park Zoo. There's a wide variety of animals from bears, red pandas, giraffes ect. We went early being able to beat the crowd and have great parking. Some of the animals were not available to see but overall it is a beautiful zoo with amazing animals to see. We were able to see the whole park in a few hours and the kids were able to play and enjoy all the attractions.
Chaos Entertainment
I came to this park or zoo to check it out and have some fun turned out to be a really well great groomed park it felt like you're walking in the woods most of the time they got giraffes lions bears tigers tapers otters all sorts of animals for everybody to see.
They got three kind of like food places one is a cafeteria where you have pizza and burgers I went to the little taqueria called the Cafe grays I think it was and then you also have like a little coffee shop area and yeah it's you know like mine was $5 for a taco but you know it's really good taco and it's also your at a zoo.
I really like it because they do take really good care of their animals I've been to zoos where they don't care for them hardly at all and these are very well nourished and they are very well cared for there was some like bird exhibits that were not open just because the avian flu that's in our state so that means that the are taking great care of their birds.
So if you want to see a tour of it I'm going to be posting it on my YouTube channel chaos entertainment as green yellow letters and space background
Stella G
Very huge. Three hours walking. There aren’t many animals and the animals are always too far away to see them clearly. But the environment is super great and I got the chance to touch goats. Really enjoyed
Brittani Skurok
I really love the woodland park zoo. I am a member and have been going since I was a child. Every time is completely different. I recently went on a Wednesday afternoon and only had about 10 other people (that I saw there) in the zoo with me. I was really nice to walk around without a large crowd. I would recommend coming to this zoo if you haven't before.
Prapassorn
Nice and clean zoo. The animals look very healthy and I believe that they are in a good place. Me and my family have a great time. Can’t want for the summer then we can go back to see the butterfly!!
Scott Lebengood
Great signage made it easy to navigate. We saw nearly every animal there. I think morning is probably the best time to go. The zoo crew did an excellent job building an appropriate habitat for each species.
John Wattenbarger
Tickets were a bit more than I expected ($26.25 for adults, $16.25 for kids), but the zoo was well run with a lot of cool animals. I spent about 2 hours there and was able to see most of the exhibits. There are also annual passes if you plan to go often.
Ryan Johnson
We had a couple of hours to spare on a recent trip to Seattle. My wife surprised me with a trip to the zoo. We really enjoyed it, it was raining but the animals were still pretty active. It’s a great zoo that’s pretty large. We did go during some COVID restrictions but most of the zoo was open. I look forward to going again when we visit next time. It was relatively inexpensive for 2-3 hour visit. I would recommend an umbrella if you do plan on visiting during a rainstorm.
Michael
Oh my god, the woodland park zoo was so beautiful. We went in December and the weather was gorgeous and the landscaping was amazing. So many animals that I haven’t seen before and they were way more active than any other zoo I’ve been to. I could’ve easily spent all day there just admiring everything.
Ashley Guenther
Kids enjoyed it. Was clean and being able to see the animals was so nice. A lot was closed though, which sucked but understandable. Food was blah and way to over priced. But the did have gluten free options which was a bonus I never expected. Even if we waited 45 min for food.
Rikki Tyler
Had an ok visit. Not sure if it was due to the heat (in the low 80s) or what but lots of exhibits are closed. It was nice seeing all the other animals that were out though. Very clean, friendly staff, tons of things for little kids to do. We loved the butterfly exhibit the most I think.
Annie mou
Great Zoo!!!
This zoo was amazing. Went to the zoo with the family. All the staff was super friendly! The zoo facilities was clean and inviting. Lots of fun areas for the kids to run around and play in between visiting the animals.!!
Alexsei B
This zoo is so much fun! Great for all ages. It's never super busy anymore which is a plus. Parking is easy, right next to where you walk in and not to expensive. Lots of animals to see. Lots of actually really good food. Beer and wine sold in the zoo. And lots of clean bathrooms all around the zoo. We purchased the year pass and it has definitely been a great purchase!
Ron “ronskidude”
It was one of the best if not the best Zoo's I've been to. They really educate people about the importance of the Zoo aswell as take care of animals by providing them with ample space to roam around and instruct people of certain regulations on what to do and not to do.
I really enjoyed the place because I could read about a certain animal and know more about it since they have cards posted on each place.
Price is around 30 bucks regular, if you get it from groupon its even cheaper and they even offer military discounts.
Plenty of paid parking at the park but also there's a lot of free parking spaces outside. Just make sure to roam around first and try your luck.
Corey Hailey
The zoo was huge! And they had so many different types of animals! 4p.m is waaayyy to early for it to close! I easily spent a lot of time there from 12 until closing.
Also heavily recommend buying the Citpass it includes the zoo among a whole bunch of other things and practically pays itself off.

Woodland Park Zoo is a beautiful zoo, with trails lined with greenery, between each exhibit. The property is divided into habitats where each species is native to (temperate forest, African Savannah, Australasia, Northern Trail, Tropical Rainforest, Tropical Asia, etc.). We were lucky to be there on a nice day, so most of the animals were out enjoying the Sun. As of April 6, 2022, the indoor exhibits, like the Bug world and Willawong Station, were still closed, due to COVID restrictions. Sometimes, there will be zoo associates at certain exhibits, who you can ask questions about the animals. They are very knowledgeable and offer more education about the species. Currently, there is only one building where you can get food, like burgers and pizza. The food is okay, but pretty overpriced in my opinion. They do allow you to bring in your own food and drink. There are many areas where you can sit on the grass and eat if you would like. I think some areas are pretty aged, and in need of some updates. I also miss some of the indoor exhibits, like the tropical rainforest area, where the tree frogs, snakes, and birds used to be viewable. I think the ticket prices are a little overpriced as well… it comes out to just under $50 for one adult and one child. If you are a local and anticipate visiting more than once a year, then the yearly membership makes much more sense than buying a ticket each time you go. Overall, it is a very nice zoo, and worth bringing the little ones for the day.
Jessica Arechiga
This was soo nice. Lots of beautiful nature. But we did not see a lot of animals. My kids still enjoyed visiting and running around the zoo. We were able to bring in our own snacks and water. They had a little picnic area. There is also a little restaurant with tables. The food was ok. The bathrooms were ok not too dirty. There was always toilet seat covers ,toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels. The animals we did see were a little far away. There was a few we were able to see upclose. Please like if it was helpful.
Yousry Mahmoud
Attractive zoo and suitable for kids. Be ready to walk inside about 2-3 hours to see most of animals. Parking lots are available just outside the gates. Be careful to remember your parking lot before to go in.
Christi CURTIS
Had a wonderful time here with about 40 8th graders. A guide even walked around with us for a few minutes and shared some interesting personality facts of the gorillas. It rained, but we didn't mind. The trees canopy the trails well and helped provide a cover as we walked along. The food court area is spacious and accommodates large groups well. The gift shops were an attraction in themselves. Well done. Nice zoo! I would go again and try to stay longer next time.
Deejay C
What an amazing zoo. I've been to a handful and this is one of the best ones out there.
The zoo is set up to where you can view these animals in their habitat what they can enjoy their life and not feel confined
Antonio Valero
Affordable for a family of 5. Parking was easy to access for a small fee. Gives yourself plenty of time to experience the zoo to its fullest. Bring your own snacks as there's no restaurants open.
Gary Makries
A huge zoo but not many animals to fill it. We spent so much time walking but almost no time seeing the animals as most were not to be found in their exhibits. I understand that the zoo closed down certain ones because of the avian flu but we only found one out of every three areas to be populated. Smaller zoos in Texas are far more entertaining. The Caldwell zoo in Tyler and the Ellen Trout in Lufkin are both more engaging. We won't be back to this one, even if we return to Seattle. The staff was super friendly, just the zoo itself was lackluster.
Julie Dodge
I love the zoo here and always have :) I was so excited to find that WPZ had a flying fox enclosure recently! I don't really know what to say, except that I've only had good experiences here, and the animals are treated well. A porcupine decided she would take her time getting out of her crate at a show, and the keeper noted that they do t force animals to do anything, just train some ambassadors with positive reinforcement. Even with pouring rain, the Wild Lanterns event was super cool.
A. B.
Best zoo in the world! You won’t find a more passionate staff who care for their animals better than Woodland Park Zoo. The zoo does fantastic work towards wildlife conservation and takes a strong mission stance of providing meaningful experiences to inspire taking action for wildlife. Every dollar you spend there towards ticket prices, souvineers, anything, will go toward taking care of those important animals in their care, as well as wildlife conservation. Some examples of conservation foundations they work with are the Snow Leopard Trust, Tree Kangaroo Program and Malayan Tiger Project, among many more. It’s a must-visit if you’re in Seattle!
Jess Foster
The zoo is set in a lush vegetation background. The zoo animals seem to have small enclosures. The hippos seem to have a very small space. There are clean bathrooms and places to eat. The bird enclosures are mostly closed due to avian flu. Clean and nice for a visit.
SJ Cook
Went just for Zoo Tunes this time. Easy parking, easy ticket entrance. Well designed zoo and venue. Great show. Clean, well staffed and operated by experienced organized people. Lovely evening!
Angie Fatafehi
I wanted to give it 5 stars but it was a bit underwhelming. The place was nice and spacious. But could have been kept a little better. Didn't see much but the little that we did was great.
The highlight for us were the Silverbacks watching how they interact with eachother which was pretty neat. We could sit there all day and observe. The baby was just too adorable! The other great highlight were the penguins. We happen to be there as our second to last stop during their feeding time :) I'm not sure how the keeper remembers all their names ! Either way, it's a nice place. Not sure if I would go back though.
AG
Nice place to see various wild animals.. Sunny October is definitely the month to visit this place. Get to almost all animals.
I hope the place really helps animals across the world as it claims when you visit the place.
I would like to receive a copy of all the contributions done by the zoo, if possible.
Vinayak deshpande
Wohh.. it is simply one of the best zoos. Whole of the world's animals can be seen in this zoo. The zoo is so conveniently planned that none of the zones are missed or no visitor will miss his/her way out. Thanks to the administrators for maintaining neatly and thanks to the designers for their efforts to make our visit an effortless and educative. Also the animals are placed in their natural habitat which makes them also comfortable. Right from Australian kangaroo to Asiatic lions, Rhenos to African gorillas to anaconda.
Catherine Rogers
Well planned and organized, this zoo is a fabulous full day outing. Exhibits are organized by region and the animals are well tended and healthy. Facilities are plentiful with added exhibition space, outdoor performance venues and food vendors. There is plentiful parking and the site is easy to access by transit. Highly recommended.
John Britto Edinburgh
The zoo had plenty of exhibits closed but the ones open (white wolf, penguins, snow leopard etc) were worth it. What's more worth it in the winter is the Wild Lanterns show, it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! There was a lot of crowd to enjoy it too!
Eduardo & Jocelyn
Lot's of parking, we recommend going in the morning to beat the crowds and so you can enjoy looking at all of the animals. We walked around the whole zoo and it took us about 2 hours to complete. There were a lot of enclosures and animals. Our favorites were the monkeys, tiger, elks and the hippos! Great place to bring the family. We paid around $30 for 2 people including tax, great price for a day trip. There were a lot of areas where you could sit and enjoy the animals and have a picnic.
Rebecca C
Came to see animals during summer time was fun, but who would have thought winter is also good to visit the zoo? I went in again recently before WildLanterns ends this year. Pretty impressive on how many lanterns they’ve set up. Not only animals but also plants and some Chinese culture-related exhibits for the upcoming Lunar New Year. Designs are very vivid. If you are bringing kids, make sure to stop by the interactive area, the canons and bubble machines are my favs
Kristen Phillips
I always love going to the Woodland Park Zoo although sometimes it can be frustrating when the animals are not out and about. Not the zoo's fault 😉 I went last weekend to the WildLanterns exhibit with my husband and two small kiddos - it was magical!!! The former Zoo Lights was fun but they've really stepped up their game. It was incredible. I would definitely recommend!!
Arielle Vodder
We had a great day at the zoo. Lots of animals too see, even if the bird engines were closed to protect against Avian flu. We missed the penguins. But we got some great up close animal experiences.
Ravi Srivastava
Great park for day out with toddler. Download the zoo map and follow the main loop. They have pointers boards marked as A,B ….till P. If you are entering from south gate, Start with A so that you dont miss anything. They do have strollers and other necessities available on rent if needed.
Ticket price: 25 for adult ,15 for children, 0-2 years- free
Parking is $6 for 2 hours, $2 for additioanl hour .. 3 hours are sufficient with kids to cover the park.
Marlene Pierce
We spent a lovely day at the zoo. The $10 rhino experience is absolutely a must. The handlers went above and beyond to accommodate my uncle’s wheelchair and make the experience special for him. The butterfly house was also a highlight, and we would recommend wearing bright clothing and getting there early when the butterflies are more active. We had no less than 10 land on us while in the tent.
While the facilities are *technically* ADA compliant, be prepared for some steep hills (especially by the rhinos and monkeys) and to have to go all the way across the zoo for a single access handicap stall. The wheelchair accessible stalls that are in the other bathrooms are a tight squeeze and may require some maneuvering if the individual requires an aid in using the facilities. Some sidewalks are quite bumpy and/or narrow and difficult to navigate with the wheelchair.
Oci P
What a lovely zoo. Lots of natural space for the animals, and friendly and helpful staff. I highly recommend spending some time visiting the penguins! Will definitely return.

Today was the first time I’ve been to Woodland Park Zoo since high school! I took my son for his first time & we had a lot of fun!!! The reptile exhibit is currently closed until May 1st & there were no elephants, but basically everything else was there. Everyone was out roaming around or lying in the grass. We’ll definitely go back after May 1st. Someone asked me to compare WPZ to Point Defiance, but that doesn’t really work. WPZ is much larger, but they don’t have the marine life like P.D. does. So, they’re just different & I would recommend going to both. The idea of zoos can sometimes seem arbitrary, but if you look at it from different angles, it seems like a good idea. Animals are often trafficked & sold as novelty items & end up in bad situations. It’s easy to see these animals/mammals are cared for dearly. I wish parking wasn’t so expensive here, however. It’s already pricy to get in (even as a resident), then throw $13 for parking & you’ve got a hefty price of admission (tack on food & souvenirs). I’d suggest taking the bus & save yourself that part, at least. There’s a lot to see & you pay 0-2hrs, 2-3hrs, or 3+ hours. If you don’t want to sprint & see everything there is to see, just pay for all-day parking. They’re open 9:30am-4:00pm. If you’re from out-of-town, I suggest leaving your car at your hotel & just Google your trip via bus to save money. If you’ve just gotta have your car, then it is what it is. You’d spend more money parking at & going up in the Space Needle or on the Great Wheel down on the waterfront (which, again, I suggest doing). Be sure to pack an umbrella & a sweatshirt that’s easy to carry, as our weather is really unpredictable. Lastly, have fun!!!

It was pleasant and fun. The lion and gorilla sections were great. Alot of the small attractions were closed like the bugs and a few shops. The animals were hard to find like the zebras. We went through the petting zoo area and most of the animals were asleep out in the open. It was a fun experience but I don't think I need to go again for a while. Lol.
Candice swanson
It was a pretty good experience. Really big so I felt like I got value for what I paid.
Most importantly, the enclosures looked amazing and well taken car of.
Maps were a bit confusing, random turns that didn't go anywhere. Otherwise good.
Jacob
Knowledgeable staff at different exhibits make this zoo one of the best. If you are visiting and they are available, don't miss a great opportunity. The animals, landscaping, and info graphics are wonderful as well. We went on a nice weekend morning and all the animals were active.
Leno
The zoo is pretty nice. Very big space with some uncommon animals. I really enjoyed seeing a Malayan Tapir and 2 komodo dragons. Unfortunately, most of the indoor sections of the park were closed. It was also outrageously expensive. You can get a small discount through Groupon, but it's still expensive.
BossLady Rae
Nice zoo. Plenty to see and some pretty great exhibits. I have three stars because not one staff member was friendly or welcoming by any means.
seattledrumguy
Great zoo, very clean and very friendly, well informed staff. They just need better thought out logistical signage as it’s easy to get turned around. Ended up doing a lot of backtracking.
David Santa Cruz
The Woodland Park Zoo is wonderful with all the different sections you can visit. Its very spread out which gives the animals space to roam around. This place is very clean and would definitely go again.
Dan Burnett
Super neat zoo, great exhibits, especially for being primarily outside exhibits. I’ve never seen a zoo incorporate mature trees into exhibits to give the animals a more natural habitat. Was super neat, especially seeing the baby gorillas!
Amanda Panda
Amazing experience. Never been to a zoo in my life and I had so much fun exploring this place. Even if it was raining I'd do it again.
David C
Lots of good animals and helpful staff posted around the zoo to give good information. Animals seem like their very well taken care of.
Huyennga Cao
Zoo Wildlanterns at Woodland Park Zoo was awesome, well worth my money, bigger and better than the Zoo lights a few years ago. It was very beautiful but cold because we went on New Year Day of 2022, all the snow from snowstorm day after Christmas was still on the ground.
La D
Go early so you can see everything. This zoo is pretty large so you would get a nice walk in. Some of the spots were closed off but it was a nice visit.
Marissa Morse
It's a very fun zoo! It's divided into sections for each environment of the animal. I do feel bad for animals in capacity, but the experience was great!
Anna A.
This zoo is fantastic. They have so many beautiful animals, the volunteers are very knowledgeable and the place itself is nice and clean.
John Parsons
Very fun place for the family to walk around and visit. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here, but even 4 if you eat a lunch. Time flew by for us - it's a pretty large zoo and takes a long time to walk around and see it all. Parking is self service kiosk and cost us $13 for 3-4 hours. We parked in the south "hippo" lot. The wildlife (bear, gorillas, rhino, wolves, and more) were very active when we went on a Saturday morning.
Louise Lapus (louiseez)
Love coming here. I have a pass and it's always a lovely stroll around the zoo. So peaceful and the animals seem happy. Although I do think the penguins need a cooler space over the summer.
Earl Mallonee
This was a family trip for daughter's birthday & granddaughters first trip to the to the zoo, our 4 year old angel had the time of her life, & wore her grandpa out but was well worth it. Hopefully we'll make this an annual event for our family, loved it & the weather was perfect.
Hong Wang
We visited zoo on Christmas eve,it’s cold and very few people. Actually the zoom is bigger than my expectation and definitely need half day to visit all. Also I saw few animals which I never saw before, meerkat, tapir.
Eugene Lin
Great place to explore w the kiddos and people watch (my boy couldn’t care less about the animals but loved seeing the people hahaha). Nice and clean. Yummy snacks. Spacious. Not Tiger King-esque at all.
Jackie Luke
The paper lanterns are amazing! We typically enjoy the zoo lights but this year's display was a step above! Very stunning and I highly recommend with gloves, warm socks and a hot tasty beverage.
If you do get a warm beverage from concessions they have hot chocolate, hot apple cider and Irish cream hot chocolate for the adults.
Joey Riggle
My wife, daughter and I went on a Sunday and it was a wonderful experience. All the animals were around and looked healthy. The park itself is clean and the staff are friendly. My only coming was how hard it was to find parking. I think a parking garage would be a great addition to this zoo.
Adriana Barrera Riaño
I was there for the lanterns. It was awesome, the lighs are just beautiful and some of the attractions have movement. There is an interactive place for kiddos to play and explore.
Al Glenewinkel
We visit Woodland Park Zoo every year! It is one of our favorite outings with the granddaughters. This year we saw leopards, gorillas, giraffes, hippos, wolves, brown bears, elk, penguins, emus, river otters, ostrich, kookaburra, colobus monkeys, Steller's sea eagles, and mountain goats. We were all ready for lunch by the time we were through. The girls loved reading the many signs giving information about the different animals. They also loved climbing on the bronze statues scattered around the park.
Jordan Jackson
Seriously one of the best zoos I've ever been to. Well maintained, a great variety of exhibits, and good parking. We didn't do any of the interactive activities this time with a 9-month-old, but we have in the past and it's a hit with the kiddos!
Christina Wann
Great place to go with children for an educational afternoon. Most of the exhibits were closed when we went but it was still fun.
Sweetpea
Loved this zoo. Animal habitats looked clean and well kept. The walk through aviaries allowed us to feel close to nature. The cafeteria was very gourmet. Pretzels and pizza were delicious. Very large zoo, definitely took some time to cover all ground.
Randy McCreary
We've been going to Woodland Park Zoo since we were kids. We love most of the changes that have been made over the years. The last two years we've gone to Wild Lanterns with our kids and grandkids. It was well done and very enjoyable. We will always be supporters because we believe it is important.
Kat Brashears
Wow! We had such an amazing time here! This is a conversation zoo zoo and it is absolutely stunning! Walking around the zoo is almost like walking through the woods it’s so beautiful. Definitely a great price for all the animals you get to see. Tip: you might want to eat before and bring snacks because there was not many food options outside of burgers and pretzels.
Stephaine Weiss
It's so big you definitely need to go more than once or start really early to see everything. We went for my oldest bday she loved it both of them did.
Amanda Flores
Woodland is top notch all year round. We’ve been to many events and love our visit each time. Highly recommend the lanterns in the Winter.
William Sturtevant
Got my adult son to go check out the Lanterns on a very chilly Sunday night for the Holidays.Very impressed with the display, but we kept wondering how they store all those steel wire frames. And the labor to apply the materials and paint to each lantern you understand why it's not a cheap ticket. Happy to pay and have such a great science and cultural amenity in Seattle.
Thank you!!
Beki Marshall
Such a fun experience. We went on the homeschool day and it was fantastic. It was empty and we were able to park easily and enjoy the day at the zoo! We enjoyed the park inside near the cafe. The penguins were our favorite along with the orangutans.
Timothy Hall
Most of the bird and flying insects were closed for the season, but the most of the other animals were out an about... very nice zoo and easily navigable with loops.
Jim Hough
Wowza. We came here in winter, which is objectively, a bad time to visit a zoo. Regardless of that, we had a great time. We couldn't get tickets to the lantern show they do at night, but we saw all the amazing displays around the park while exploring. The animals that were out and about were awesome, the monkeys that go "woooOOOOO" are the best. 1 star deducted because the food was really a let down. The stalls were closed so we had to go to the food court, and even by food court standards, the service and food were bad. Bring your own snacks and water and you'll have a great time
Mona Mo
What a fun zoo for kids and families to spend time together! So many kinds of animals and kids play areas, family friends restaurants too. Highly recommended!👍 …
Raven Kaeding
Even with most of the aviation exhibits closed to protect the birds from the bird flu, it took us all day to see all the exhibits. was a wonderful day, with lots to see.
Shellie H
Very well done zoo. The animals have lots of room, and their enclosers look natural. We missed the dinosaur exhibit, they were taking it apart when we were there. Some animals were not visible at first, but when we went back by a few minutes later they were suddenly out and active and highly visible. So, if you miss the ones you want to see, try to pop back by and you may catch them. I bought season passes for my family that lives there, and then was able to get myself in for half price when we went together. Doing the math, if they go twice, the passes have paid for themselves, and all the other visits will be for free. Definately worth it if you are local. The zoo workers and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. The park was clean and well maintained with lots of shade and seating. Most everyone wore their masks as required.
Erika Oberle
Love this zoo! It's wide open walkways, easy routes, bathrooms throughout, and easy terrain make it a great outing for our family with a toddler. Their memberships are super flexible and their staff is all very nice
C. Blaise Mitsutama
I attended the WildLanterns event last night at the Woodland Park Zoo. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It's beautiful and magical. Well worth the cost. Would definitely do again. There's something to see everywhere you look. My cell phone camera couldn't catch the full saturation of colors.
Manjot Sudha
It’s the holiday season and they have done a wonderful job with lanterns. The display is breathtaking. We really enjoyed it. It was worth the visit.
Alain Castineira
My wife and I visited the zoo while on vacation from Miami. The zoo was really nice. They have a ton of cool animals and a lot of shaded area while you walk through it. The staff was also kind and informative. Definitely recommend visiting here.
Narisa Ratana-Chen
Always love it here! Heads up for anyone visiting around 7/5. The penguin exhibit is closed currently due to avian flu risk. Most other exhibits open including the butterfly garden!
Brenda Gilham
My mother gifted our family a Woodland Park Zoo membership for Christmas. We paid our first ever trip to this zoo on January 14th, 2023.
We got there about 15 minutes after the zoo opened. The line to get in was surprisingly short, and scanning the membership QR code made getting in quick and easy.
The facility was very clean, and despite the cold weather, we still saw a lot of animals which was a happy surprise.
Our only hiccup during our visit was the mobile ordering system for their 1899 Cafe, which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. We are a family of varying tastes. So I had to go in and individually add all our burgers with our different topping preferences. And we almost all wanted different drinks (2 Sprites, a Coke and a lemonade,) so I added all of those individually as well.
We spent more time at the carousel than expected, and came 15 minutes after our food was ready. The man at the pick up counter was visibly irritated and a little passive aggressive about me picking up so late. He said to come back for the drinks because there wasn't enough room on the tray. So I brushed it off, took our food to the table and started dishing everyone's meals. We noticed rather quickly that EVERYONE got my oldest daughter's order. She likes patty and cheese. That's it. My boyfriend and I wanted the "secret" sauce and lettuce (and he wanted the tomatoes as well) which was all individually added to our order. So I went back to the counter for the drinks and told the man the issue. I told him I don't want a new order, we're hungry now, we'll just settle for some cups of the secret sauce to add to our burgers. Again, very passive aggressive "well that's what you ordered." Showed me the order ticket. It shows on the ticket as if I put in my daughter's order with a "quantity +3" which I did NOT do. He then says, "you ordered 4 sprites?" I said no, and again, "Well, that's what you ordered." No. I didn't. We ended getting our individual drinks and the cups of sauce as requested. But left feeling very underwhelmed by the food and experience for the price.
Anyway long story short, that big of a programming bug within their ordering system isn't acceptable with such a big institution. How on earth do so many people use this feature and get their correct order? I don't understand.
In order to make my mom's purchase worth her money, we will be returning at least 2 more times this year. If our experience with mobile ordering improves, I'll definitely update my review.
**note I had already ate about half of my fries before taking a photo**

What a spectacular venue for concerts, Summer concerts that is! Beautiful grassy area, convenient parking, loads of food & drink vendors, clean and accessible restrooms, and a volunteer group of folks that are just delightful!!
daji knight
First time to this zoo, I don't have kids and my partner and I took the trp to see some animals in February lol. The collection of animals are very unique, though we didn't get to see all of the animals due to the fact that it is cold outside at the time. But still a great experience.
Louann Wright
Absolutely the most interactive and beautiful zoo. Great for solo family or date date. I'm coming back often
Anna B W
The best Zoo and SO MUCH to see. Get ready to walk (seriously because this place is big). So many wonderful animals and exhibits but also helpful staff and restrooms along the way. There are animals from penguins, giraffes, hippos, grizzly bears, red pandas…too many to share. There’s also many grassy areas to rest or have a picnic as well as beautiful carousel for rides.
There are in and out privileges if you get a stamp so feel free to pack a lunch or snacks for the day or leave to the car if you need. They also have an on-site restaurant to order a variety of food options. Also which animals you see may depend on the time of day or temperature or eating times so it always varies. Right now masks are necessary for inside areas.
Erickha De Guzman
Not crowded. Only few empty attractions. It was a perfect day to visit not too hot not too cold so a lot of animals were out and about.
Aleesa Parsons
Large zoo with beautiful exhibits. The greenery is amazing here. We loved the gorillas, grizzly bear, and penguins! They were really interactive today. The food was decent but expect to pay $$$.
Kevin E
Awesome experience! The baby gorilla was an amazing highlight, the food exceeded expectations and great memories were created with family. Looking forward to going again
Michelle Fredricks
Cute zoo. Some of the birds were off limits to visitors due to avian flu. Food is excellent, especially the Mexican restaurant in the center of the zoo. Butterfly exhibit was nice, but a bit small.
Oliver Day
I bet this place is very nice in the summer, and spring but DO NOT go in the winter or fall since the majority of the animals get cold and the zoo puts them in their habitats out of sight from people.
Morgan Holbrook
The trails are well marked. The atmosphere was incredible. There are so many beautiful plants and so well maintained. They have a great variety of animals. Lots of places to sit and have a picnic.
Alexis Jimenez
Very beautiful and very fun! But most of the animals weren’t out which was a bummer, I wish we had known this or had been told on the website before booking.
Todd Shibata
We had a lot of fun! A lot of beautiful animals. I was lucky to get some great pictures.
Jennifer Weiss
Wild Lanterns Light Exhibit is absolutely gorgeous and a must-see event!!! My family went last week and were completely blown away. It’s showing through January 30th and I highly recommend!!!! WowwwwW!
Christopher Gema
Zoo is actually pretty big. What I really liked about the zoo is that the animals had big enclosures outside for them roam around in.
Steve Martin
Pretty big sprawling urban zoo set up with themed areas that are fun to walk through. Great place for the children.
Kelley Vincent
Nice zoo, a little sparse on animals but that's partly due to the time of day we were there, which was 1:00pm, animals are much more active in the morning. This was still an enjoyable couple of hours. Multiple parking lots to choose from, not well marked from the surrounding streets.
Jim Freed
Absolutely incredible zoo. If you have never been, this is a must visit! The most amazing zoo I have ever been to ever. Photos are from 2021 Zoo Lantern Lights and that show in itself is incredible. Almost all the animals are away sleeping but the magical lights they set up and illuminate are truly amazing. Words cannot do it justice. Fun for all ages, with or without kids. Definitely worth checking out.
Update: 2022 Wild Lanterns was much more scaled back than 2021. We were very underwhelmed and surprised by how few lanters there were compared to the previous 2 years. Most of the exhibits are animals you would see in person, there are a ton of dragonflies, and the big field has just some Seattle display. Not worth the money this year to be honest. It's too bad..
K F
Beautiful exhibits, very well created and maintained. City Pass takes a few bucks off the entrance price, making it the best out-of-pocket option if you choose to do all the listed City Pass activities. Mornings on overcast days are great - not crowded & animals are out and about.
O S
Great thing to do while visiting town. It's a family friendly place. You can rent steoller, wagons, and powered mobility devices if needed. Lots of animals to see.
Turner “Demolitions” Merrifield
The zoo has a lot here to look at. Lots of animals, some are fairly active so your not just looking at sleeping Joe's all day. From a family perspective it's a great place to spend time with the kids and have some fun. From a single visitor perspective. You're going to be stuck behind kids glued to the glass unless you're going on a weekday where it's less busy. 4 stars because your visit is determined by your park length commitment and not all exhibits were open at the time. Otherwise decent place to go!
Bryli Elsner Blankenship
This zoo takes great care of their animals. Some are good at hiding but that's to be expected.
Tyler Davis
Lovely walkable zoo with great facilities, awesome kid friendly areas, and so many amazing animals to see!
Samir Abt
I wish we had a little more time to see all of it. With kids, you probably need at least 3 to 4 hours to be able to see it all. We'll go back soon 🙂 …
A Augustine
Beautiful zoo, the plants around the different areas were cool and the exhibits looked well maintained
Brian Block
Great zoo to visit! We went as part of the Wildbites event to taste great whiskies and easy gear food while supporting the zoo! Well maintained and easy to navigate. Although I prefer to see animals in the wild, this is a good zoo with well cared for animals and the people working there that we connected with were passionate about the animals. Recommended!
Dara Jolly
Hadn't been to the zoo for several years. This is a nice zoo that wasn't too crowded. Easily doable in an afternoon, our biggest challenge was finding our way around. The signage isn't very good and they don't provide maps anymore... Visitors can just download online. Lots of shade and places to rest as needed. Tips... Buy tickets online in advance and try parking in one of the lots on the west or north sides of the park.
Shelby Whipple
Great seeing the animals. Lots of fun things we didn't know they had. Butterfly room, ladybug room. Petting zoo/farm. This place is huge too! We got lost ha. They don't have some of the birds at this time either the penguins, flamingos etc. Due to the bird flu.
Kelly Downing
Plenty of animals to see (with an active 2 year old and a simi-active 61 year old), we all had a good time!
Michael Williams
While it was a cold wet day, it was neat to see some animals up close and the zoo is laid out nicely.
Tim Kelly
We love this zoo! The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, and very engaging for kids to learn many things.
Lauren White
Had a great day with the family. Wish they had more options through our the zoo to buy snacks and drinks.
Rachel Park
Perhaps because I went to the open time, there were not many animals, but it was good to see animals with nature.
I recommend comfortable clothes because you have to walk a lot.
If you have a stroller, I recommend you to take it.
Judy Perry Rose
WildLantern light show dazzled and mesmerized our grandkids and us! Creative enchantment of mystical, playful, immersive experience. Impossible to capture fully on camera. Smoke bubbles were something we’d never felt before!
Melinda Tan
Love coming here to check out the animals and get fresh air with friends! Perfect for those that have little ones, lots of cool animals to see and a great little food cafeteria with all the kid faves. The pizza is pretty decent here AND you can order an adult beverage to elevate your zoo experience 😁 I definitely recommend coming during the week days for a better and less crowded experience, it also seems like more of the animals were out and about too with less people!
Jachelle Sologuren
I still need to go to the zoo during normal hours BUT I just went to the Wild Lanterns event last night and it was amazing. Definitely a must-see/must-go during the Holidays in Seattle.
Bring your family or make it a date! You’ll spend about an hour to an hour and a half walking around. So it is money well spent, trust me! The artwork and lights are spectacular.
Glob zilla
We come here about 3 times a year with the kids. Zoo lights is always one of my favorite things for the holidays!
Paul Huguenin
I wish we lived closer. I'd be a member.
We went to Seattle to snag a hotel room because the oldest, our daughter-in-law, and our granddaughter were catching a very early flight to Cincinnati, and we live up North, which made getting up at 0100 with a 2-1/2 year old a poor proposition.
We managed to hit the zoo with only an hour to spare, but really wanted to at least see what we could.
Our daughter-in-law is a member of the Cincinnati Zoo, which shares reciprocity with Woodland Park, so we were able to save 50% off admission. A very nice perk for those who have zoo memberships.
The favorite seemed to be the brown bear exhibit, which has an "as up close and personal" viewing experience as one can get. I mean CLOSE! When a big a** bear leans against the glass you are looking through you'll understand what I am talking about.
The exhibits are numerous. The entire facility was clean. I have zero negative to say about our experience. If I find myself back in the area I will certainly make time to devote more than an hour to the wonderful experience this zoo has to offer.
Melody Welsh
This is to be one of the best zoo experiences I have ever had! Really great price. We got to see all the animals. They all seemed so active and happy and healthy! So great.
Manike de Wet
Always a fun time! Tickets are affordable and the animal enclosures are clearly very well taken care of. Will definitely be returning!
Sarah Santos
Very nice zoo! It’s very shady and very pretty in certain areas to walk through. I was sad to see though the indoor rainforest part was closed :(
Lot of the animals were out and about active. There bear was awesome!
I wish though you had the old ice cream( the one with color around it), and the parking is ridiculous. It use to be one price flat now it goes by hour and it ridiculous.
But that’s Seattle for you I guess
But overall was very nice
Rebecca A
Wonderful visit at the zoo I love this place!!! Parking is a bit confusing and have to pay about $5-6 for it but well worth it! Tickets were only $25 I think. Definitely got our money worth for the unforgettable memories. My fave was the giraffes. My kiddos fave was the kangaroos. Friendly staff, easy to navigate. Masks still required indoors. Didn't bother outdoors on a hot day when we're vaxed. Thanks for the fun time!!!
David Gunderson
What an amazing place for kids of all ages 1-99 to come dream and have an extraordinary time. Great lawn area for picnics and the park boasts over 900 animals, not to mention they have an amazing dinosaur exhibit! I had an absolute blast watching my daughter great friend's kids just smile ear to ear on the all day adventure.
Alexander Galloway
The zoo itself was great. Lots of animals that we had never seen before. Plenty of restrooms. Beware of the $6 parking charge and the line for paying for parking.
One huge inconvenience for us was just wanting a can of pop or a can of monster energy drink, which was $3.50 (16oz Disani water was $4.50). There's no cash accepted and they put a blocker preventing the insertion of cash into the vending machines. You can still use coins, but they won't give you more than a dollar change in coins because of a ridiculous excuse of a coin shortage, which seems to only exist in King County. Could not use debit or credit because the machines were saying cash only. The payment network for the vending machines was down. We walked from place to place trying to get change and trying to get to a vending machine that could accept debit or cash. No such luck. It was a huge bummer for such a simple thing that could have been avoided. There were no signs placed on any of the vending machines saying they were out of order, which could have made it a lot easier for people. I don't know how many times I saw someone go up to the vending machine try their card try cash, then get frustrated and leave. If you plan on relying on vending machines in this park, don't. The rest of the experience at the park was awesome. Just such a stupid inconvenience.
Muhammad Mahmood
Very nice place to bring kids. They have food/ coffee shops along the way. Nice ambience overall.
John Foster
This is a pleasant zoo although, it was a little pricey. I paid $12.28 to park "3-4 hours" then paid @$100 for five people of mixed ages to enter. At this rate, you should plan to pack a lunch and to spend at least 4 hours there to make the experience worth the spend.
Most attractions were open (not the rhino petting 😭) and the park was really busy around 11a-2p. Coming after these hours will make for an easier parking experience.
They also should ban smoking at the zoo and enforce it. I saw a few ppl smoking during today's visit, and with all of the kids there, it's no place for smoking.
Melissa Jenks
We were able to see most of the animals. We enjoyed the environment and different habitats of the zoo. The bay gorilla was adorable. Brought my 12 and 14 year old and they both enjoyed it. Lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes. It was a perfect day, no rain!
Scott Kriss
I was hoping the exhibits would be open but unfortunately many were closed and being remodeled. Slightly expensive for how many were closed this time. I do have to say the online ordering for food was a huge time saver. Staff was friendly and helpful which is appreciated
Preetham Venkatesh
We had a really nice time at this zoo! It's very well maintained, and the focus is on conservation and education. The location is great and is well-serviced by public transportation.
Rodney Ranch
BE WARNED. If your kid’s like beavels, they didn’t have Them. But, there is lots of other animal’s, such as jeraffs, and big cats, and rats, but I think The rat section is not closed all the way because they are running. Wild all over the place. I love animal’s.
Fran Schmitz
The zoo now has more capacity, but most people keep a reasonable distance and many still wear masks. Loved seeing the animals! I miss the staff that helped control crowd movement of busy areas during COVID. We've never seen the penguins being fed before and the lemurs were full of things to say! The baby gorilla alone is worth the trip. It is leaning to walk/crawl!❤️
Christopher Avina
I've been to this park a handful of times in the past. I have never been to this park during winter and experience the "Wild Lanterns" festival! I loved the life sized lanterns and wisteria walk ways. Very fun walk to experience with my partner, and a great place to bring your family! They do have cafes and food spots to enjoy food and drinks as well. Had a great time. It was a little too busy for my taste, and I wasn't able to enjoy the interactive exibits (not a lot of them) due to all the kids playing on them. Very family friendly though!
Dave Collette
Took the family to the Woodland park Zoo for the first time this week and everyone had a great time. It was a hot day but all the paths and viewing areas have shade if you want it. There are many places to fill up water bottles or grab and snack. We stayed there for 5 hours and saw all the animals, all of which were out and about. The zoo seemed clean and the animals all looked healthy. The warthogs and goats were my kids favorite. The part of town where the zoo is located is beautiful and has many heritage style homes and nice little restaurants. It was well worth the drive and we would all go back.
Sherry Fadely
ZooTunes ... one of the best ways to spend a summer evening in Seattle! Sooooo fabulous to be back after two years to see CAKE (!!) with a friend who had never been (I think she's hooked). Highly recommend. My experience: organized, friendly, families, and for an outdoor venue, a manageable size. No bad seats ; ) Bring your blanket and picnic and enjoy!
Tamara gray
Open concept, many of the areas were closed, and most of the animals were sleep or not visible.
Jessica Schule
Update: no longer has one way loop. The butterfly exhibit is now open and was a great experience!! Great place to spend time with family and friends. If you plan on spending lunch expect anywhere from 3-4 hrs pending on the foot traffic in the zoo grounds. Lots of places to sit and eat a packed lunch as well.
Bella A
Fun place to bring kids and friends! The place was bigger than I expected. Please plan to stay there for 3-4 hours to finish everything.
Amit Kumar
This is really an awesome Zoo. Nicely maintained and a great place to visit specially with kids.
Jonathan Crabtree
This is a great zoo! It was much larger than expected and even just walking around the paths is pleasant and feels like a park. The exhibits feel largely natural and you have plenty of viewing points for every exhibit. I was also impressed with the variety of animals. I've been to a surprisingly large number of zoos around the country and this is a good one.
Jami Vaux
Sad that Aviary exhibited were close due to bird flu but still so much to see. I am a member and love walking the zoo.
Liam Lian
Surprisingly large zoo not too far from the city. Diverse group of animals from near to very far (Southeast Asian & Australian animals).
J L
Small zoo yet well kept, wasn't entirely sure how the "encounters" were. Something about them pushed me away. Perhaps it was the potential of being charged again to see the animals, dunno..funny, where I was raised...residents get 2 months free admission. Yet, here seem more like a money grab for half the zoo!
Aurora Tijerina
Staff is really nice and animals are cute, pretty big zoo.
Teresa K
A lot of the exhibits were closed, but what animals were out, were beautiful. The butterfly exhibit is a must see!
Big Traveler
I’ve been to a lot of zoos around the country, while this one wasn’t the absolute best, it ranks in the top 3. Why? Because it was so well laid out. You never felt crowded, there wasn’t a long wait to see any attraction. It wasn’t insanely expense like some other zoos. And there were some unique animals like the Kea bird. Loved the penguins right out front.
Avoid the food if you can though. It wasn’t good and it was quite pricey.
Raman Dhaliwal
Came here back in August 2018 and it is an amazing zoo to walk around with some family and friends to look at the animals. There are so many different types of animals to see and other buildings as well. Biggest highlight of my trip here.
Terrie Snell
I absolutely loved this zoo!! The exhibits are so nice and the walkways are beautiful with all the trees and lush plants.
It is a must see/visit...
Justin S.
A bit pricey but worthy the experience !
Our little one enjoy it a lot !
Please look at parking listed in my pics

I go to the zoo/aquarium in pretty much any city I've been to for an extended period of time.
This zoo is very humane and the quality of the exhibits is amazing. They do a really good job replicating natural environments. My only complaint is that because the enclosures are so natural for the animals, there are a lot of hiding spots in some so don't expect to see every single animal listed (I missed out on the Jaguar and the tiger exhibits)

11 out of 10. This zoo is amazingly interactive with each section having at least one exhibit that will blow your mind. The zoo it self is awesome but the staff behind the zoo make it even better. This past weekend my bikes battery was stolen there after an amazing day but not only was the security guard Lisa very understanding but saved the day lending us a spare battery, since my bike was a local company that woodland partners with. Become a member immediately, you won't regret it.
Crystal Riches
This is a great zoo. It's VERY big and could easily take all day, so the full day parking pass is perfect. The animals are in very big beautiful enclosures and seemed happy. Some of the water fill-up stations were closed, There are plenty of areas to eat a picnic. It is a very busy zoo, but since it's so big, it does not feel very crowded. There seemed to be plenty of parking. Very clean zoo.
Kate Scarlett Mathis
Amazing smaller zoo, with beautiful animals. Staff there will explain little things from the animals and how they got there
Alycia Stallard
What a wonderful use of space! The animal exhibits are well thought out with the animals' comfort in mind. Winding paths through beautiful vegetation make this a must-do! Give yourself several hours and bring a camera! In this visit I was able to watch a young grizzly bear chasing ducks and playing in the water. In the city of Seattle. Amazing!
Robin Briggs
We went for the Zoo Lights and it was gorgeous. We walked around for about an hour and a half, and saw a performance in the theater. We didn't even mind the rain.
Trista Chandler
Very pretty landscaping as you walk thru. The signage posted was lacking detail and confusing making it difficult to strategically see all the exhibits without going across the park several times. There were rats everywhere, inside exhibits and crossing walking paths. A staff person indicated they are normally around because of droppings although I've never seen or heard of rats around a zoo before. The staff was very kind and informative along the way.
Allison Olson
Love the zoo!!!! They do an amazing job with the animals. We got an annual family pass! Super deal, with everything you get!!! I'm so excited to use our passes throughout this next year!!
If you can, before it moves on, catch the dino exhibit!! My grandchildren were in awe. They really loved it!!!
Olia M
We went today with our 4 kids ages ranging from 3-13. Everyone had such a great time! Even though some things were closed due to covid it didn't ruin our experience. It took a good 4 hours with lunch and a few breaks to get through everything. Almost all the animals were out and visible. Grounds are well kept and everything was beautiful.
Steve Mcfadden
Great zoo with lots of space and tons of animals! Very kid friendly and Wild Lights is a must around the Holidays!
Michael Macnab
If you are a parent in seattle,
(Or visiting) this is a perfect half day experience for kids under 6. The carousel is an exquisite piece of Seattle heritage that needs to be celebrated.
The christmas light event is breathraking.
Sammie Able
It was great. Gift shop staff is rude but at least the animals are cool....at least the ones that are there. Seemed like alot of missing animals and closed areas.
J Hooks
It was my first time here. Nothing to brag about. Several exhibits were closed. No birds. No flamingos, which was what we really wanted to see (it should have been listed as closed in the website). Water was very overpriced. However, entrance tickets are reasonably priced. Make sure you read the FAQ: I am glad that I did. No straws nor lids are allowed on the property. We arrived around 10am. There was to of parking space.
We did enjoy seeing the giraffes and zebras. The hippocampus and rhinos were amazing to see. It took us about 3 hours to walk the entire zoo and stop for a bite to eat.
Overall I would go again, but I will call to see which exhibits are closed before going.
Tomás Rodríguez
A wonderful place to see animals from all around the world... some are quite evasive, but with patience, you can make it!!
Hawa Kourouma
I have visited quite a few times, we got the annual membership, which was definitely worth it. The only complaint is that a lot of different areas were closed, but recently they have been opening up more. There are a lot of animals to see, and going to the zoo makes a fun day trip! I would recommend it to anyone, for kids or for adults!
Bob Austin
Gone to the zoo since it was free and the Animals were caged. Then the zoo started making the enclosures more animal friendly and you could never see anything. Now the facilities are fantastic the animals are displayed in a natural setting and it is still a work in process. Hope the fee can be on a sliding scale somehow. Everyone needs to visit at least once a year.
Jasmine Ismail
Loved walking through this zoo! It’s very well planned out. During my experience it started raining really hard but my girlfriend and I continued to walk through the zoo! I think our experience was more fun with the rain and all! It’s a good place to go to kill some time and enjoy something that’s not super exhausting.
Barbara Hunter
Great place for the family. I love how open everything was and it was great to see the animals have their space to roam unlike some zoo's.
Brandon Hall
Very Clean zoo. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Plenty of animals to look at with out a ton of crowding all in all definitely would like to come back. Plus the dinosaur exhibit looks amazing.
Ana Alcazar
Best than most zoos in WA state. Love it! Plenty of activities to do here and they have a great variety of animals. Price is for sure worth it.
Elizabeth Dawes
Nice little zoo! Can see animals up close.
morgan lemons
Woodland Park zoo is the perfect place to take your friends, family, and (let's be honest) probably your enemies. This large zoo is full of eclectic animals ranging from a goat who loves being scratched behind the ears, to a tiger that likes to surprise guests.
My family LOVES dinosaurs and we went at the perfect time for them.
The baby gorilla was a fun surprise. And while the giftshop doesn't off a whole lot of children's clothing options, it made up for it by having a huge selection of fun knick knacks.
Renting a wagon and scooter are super easy for anyone who may need one.
I'm rating this a 4/5 because the park was wonderful! The food, was... lacking flavor in some parts. My family and I ordered pretzels but they were dry, tough, and the cheese had very little flavor. The macaroni my brother ordered was about the same. Pretty bland. The burgers were really good though. And my grandmother said the chicken strip where juicy.
I will say, the app that they have to order the food was pretty great though. Made standing in line, nonexistent.
Overall, we had a lot of fun and didn't even get to see it ALL after 9 or 10.hoirs we were there. Can't wait to go back!
Jordan Gamache
The Christmas lights event was very fun, with lots of interesting displays and great cider.
Amanda Dyott
Take a leisurely stroll along the loop, with plenty of benches and picnic spots to rest and enjoy the sounds of the wild. Both a family spot and a great place for tourists,as it feels like a pause in time. Be sure to give yourself time to explore, there’s plenty to read and learn. Great zoo!
Adam Cook
Large zoo with lots of great animal enclosures to see. Similar to other large zoo's, there are large area where you have large plexiglass viewing areas so the kids can get up close to see the animals. The grounds of the zoo are quite expansive and definitely as room to grow.
While not a internationally recognized, the zoo does offer a great stop when visiting the Seattle area with kids. This is a good place to spend a half day to let the kids run around as well as enjoy some wildlife, of the 4 legged kind that is.
Yamin Lin
Great place for 3 hours of fun. The design of route is very reasonable and logical. Most of time you don’t have to take a route back and you can see all in your way.
Kyle Roy
Lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my! And what in the holy hell is a Tapir? Clearly a panda-anteater-elephant-pig. Coolest things ever! I live 4 hours south with a zoo membership at home and I still go to Seattle Woodland Park with the boys
Debbie H.
Wildlanterns was a very enjoyable experience for our whole family, ages 2-1/2 to 70.
Helen Christian
Get day at the zoo! Go early before the day heats up to see the animals more active. Make sure to attend the zoo keeper talks to learn more about the animals, the zoo and conservation.
Michael Schroeder
Very cool, lots of exhibits even tho many indoor things were closed. Definitely top tier. The wallabys and emu were hilarious, and the penguins liked showing off.
Suman B
Nice place for kids and grown ups for learning about animals and getting closer to nature. There are so many shows organized to keep patrons entertained.
NorthVan Larry
We expected to see many animals in this zoo such as tiger, lion, jaguar, wolf, polar bear, etc. but didn't. It's a little disappointing.
Krystal Elliott
I am not a huge fan of zoos because many of them seem to care more about profits than animal welfare. I can say with complete honesty that I am pleased with this zoo. The animals seem to be well cared for. Their enclosures are sizable and safe, for both animal and viewer. We also enjoyed feeding the small birds. This park took us about 4 hours to get through. I would go to this park again.
Edit: Just attended their Halloween event in 2022 and we had a great time! The decorations were so nice.
Rikk Holguin
Super busy, but it's to be expected. Loved the animals so much and family really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit.. Always a great time for the fam!
ANGELA FLOYD
World class conservation of both flora and fauna. The topography is almost as exciting as the animal exhibits! The only improvement I would ask for is, PLEASE more accessibility for people that come from lower income brackets. This is a well funded zoo.. animals make us more human and everyone should be able to go feel that connection.. you'll have a wonderful time at this zoo❤
Pablo Mena
Amazing animals! I was there at around 2pm and it looks like they just ate haha, all the animals were super sleepy, but still got some nice pics!
Eduardo R D
It was a fun experience. Especially when bringing the family and kids. Bring a coat and hat, as it gets chilly at night.
Jessica Calita cachos
We went with some friends and had 5 kids!
This is a really good place with kids!
We were there for more than 3 hrs and we didn't see everything! It's huge!! I'm just amazed 😊 …
Kelli Erickson
We went for zoo lanterns. It was pretty but for the cost per person, it was disappointing. It was a sold out Friday night, so very busy and crowded. The reason I gave 3 stars, my 3 and 5 year old kids enjoyed it. I think I just anticipated more. More exhibits, more animation and more interactive stuff for kids. We probably won't do it again.
Laura Carpenter
We went in the winter in the rain. Not all animals are out due to weather, but neither were the people! Was fun with out 4 kiddos.
Rebecka K.
Great place for family fun! Huge park to get plenty of exercise, good walking shoes recommended. Great versatility of animals in this park. Going early in the day is recommended for best activity of the animals. Prices for admission are fair, but in two visits you could already buy a pass for the whole year.
Chris Johnson
The Seattle zoo is a wonderful place for a date or with the whole family, personally I absolutely love the indoor bird terrarium.
Not much variety for meals but it's close to many restaurants. Also wish they had more exhibits.
Still if you haven't been I would recommend at least one visit, it's apparent most of the proceeds go to helping the animals and chance for the next gen of kids to experience those animals.
Anastashia King
We had a lot if fun. Max parking time is 4 hours, no re-entry. Kids had fun, exhausted by the time we left, adults had fun too.
Bret Perry
Many of the bird exhibits are closed due to the bird flu. It would be nice if they posted on their website what is open, and what is closed.
Sarah Lima
Wonderful exhibits. It's very clean and the enclosures look natural and not obviously man-made. The animals looked lively and well cared for. I got to see a few bear cubs and gorilla babies playing (not with each other!). Come for Wild Lanterns in the winter; it's the best!
Nicole Pratt
Love the Woodland Park Zoo! I have been going for years and will continue. The animals are loved and have amazing enclosures. The best thing is to purchase an annual membership. I have a large family so purchasing a family membership saves us a lot of money and allows us to come as often as we want during the year.
Martina Aranguren
Medium sized zoo. I appreciate that it's very immersed in surrounding nature making it a plesent day out in nature and most enclosures seem very seamless between different animals and visitors. Entrances are not very well indicated.
Dan Young
Wonderful little zoo. Lots to see. Great for families and kids. The habitats have been turned into more a natural setting for the animals over the years. Parking can be a challenge on busy days.
Brianne Ankenman
Wonderful zoo. Lots to see and many activities for the whole family. World class facility that provides the utmost professional care for their animals. These habitats are exquisitely designed and maintained. Definitely go for the zoo tunes in summer, too!
DD Wilson
Well maintained zoo with spacious enclosures for a variety of wildlife.
Jeanna Hammar
Pay attention to the botanical immersion bringing you into the natural ecosystems of the animals you're viewing. It's truly amazing! For example, the Northwest Trail transects all the plants from the Denali range to Anchorage with each animal in its matching natural wilderness habitat!
Samantha Hollo
The zoo is always awesome! Pretty bummed a lot of stuff was closed due to covid...the reptiles and nocturnal exhibits are always a fun part of the trip. The dinosaur exhibit was really fun too!
Emerald Briscoe
Even with COVID19 precautions restricting several exhibits still this was a great time for the kiddos and we saw these animals actually moving instead of looking miserable. The enclosures look better and better every time we visit and the animal came right up to the zoo keepers every time one was near. I have a love-hate relationship with zoos but this was a great time.
Brad
One of the best zoos I've been to is Woodland Park Zoo. It's a good size and the enclosures don't feel small in most cases. This zoo seems to really lean into educating anyone who is interested about animals. I frequently see employees near enclosures answering people's questions. They also do special events like a beer festival and summer concerts. Parking can be a bit tricky on a busier day. The food stalls have mobile ordering as an option, which makes the experience easier.
Ashley “Leilani” Ziel
Was so sad that almost all of the bird exhibits were closed because of some bird flu. But other than that still lots to see and there are awesome enclosures
Jack Johnson
One of the Best Zoos in the country. We enjoyed our visit. They were hosting and fund raiser and awareness for Down Syndrome. So a little busier than normal, but sill very pleasant.
p s
This is a large and beautiful zoo. Nearly all of it is shaded. There is a lot of walking needed to see all of the animals, but the paths are easy walking and laid out well. Entry with the CityPass was easy. We spent about 3 hours looking at all of the exhibits.
Holly Denman
I have never been here in the daytime but I was visiting friends for the holiday and they took me to this Christmas light display. I've never seen anything like it. Extremely enjoyable, easy parking, timed entrance, plenty of social distance, even with the hour drive, it was well worth it. We had a great time with interactives and learning about a new animals. I would go again!
Jonathon N
Only park at the fenced Otter Parking Lot!!! Don’t park anywhere else. We parked at Flamingo Parking Lot (south side) and had our car window smashed in broad daylight. Zoo security said this has happened hundreds of times. 3 different people said, “Well, this is Seattle.”
Otherwise - this is a great zoo for kids! Lots of kid friendly viewing windows and easy to spot animals! The baby gorillas were a favorite. The indoor kids play area was a dream during the rain!
Jan Jepsen
Easily walkable. Fun family event. Toddler made it the whole way! Perfect weather. Interactive displays added to the fun. Hot cocoa and pretzels were a bonus. I was surprised at how un-crowded it was! Way to go Woodland Park Zoo!
Eysaak (Eysaak)
Really nice natural feeling zoo, went on a Monday and crowd was minimal. Some attractions closed due to the pandemic but still a pleasant experience.
Samantha DeVoir
Woodland Park Zoo is always a lot of fun. Their food is overpriced, as can be expected, but the quality of the food has gone up slightly. If I get something to eat, I tend to get fish. I do advise you pack a lunch and/or snacks even if you want to get some zoo food.
I love Keeper Talks, when I make it to them, and feeding the giraffes and rhinos is fun. The rhino feeding experience is much better than when they had elephants and you could feed them, as you are able to get slightly closer.
Cody Thompson
Wait until restrictions lift more before coming. An amazing zoo where the animals truly are as free as possible. Due to Covid a LOT of stuff was closed. If you look on their site it shows closures so you know what to expect, but there's way more closed once you get there. Tons of good views on the open exhibits have blocked off so its harder to see the animals, and during peek hours, only about 2/3 of the available attractions have viewable animals. The staff does their best to work with the restrictions but no one actually wants to stay 6 feet apart, keep their kids with them, or keep the flow going for the exhibits. Besides that, they do have some really rare animals that besides here, you would never get to see. Definitely want to come back when things are more back to normal.
Robert Maley
Saw the lights after new years, was spectacular, more then just a zoo
Alejandra Fierro
Beautiful Place!! All the habitats were big and well adapted.
We loved the tapir, orangutan, gorilla, otters, and giraffes.
Ellie
What a great zoo! Will def be back!! You can see lota of animals super up close and it was so lovely
Chetan Agrawal
Great place to bring kids imagination to alive. The better time to go is early morning/afternoon when animals are more available for lookout. We went around 3 pm and most of them were unavailable.
Vis Naidu
Was a nice day weatherwise but we went a bit late (in the afternoon) so some of the demonstrations were already done for the day. We did get a very nice closeup of a sleeping tiger that just was resting right next to the window of his enclosure. The whole zoo is walkable, even for a 7-year old, so that was nice too. There were also restrooms and eateries along the way. We really enjoyed the mexican food at one of the restaurants (forgot the name). We caught a bit of a demo of an eagle with their trainer. Last time we went here was when my son was 2 so, this time he could appreciate it more. Only downer was most of the big cats were sleeping. But, the penguins always keep us entertained. And, last is the additional parking was really helpful since it was packed.
Omesh Pandita
Good experience. You need around 4 hrs to roam around the zoo. Nicely maintained and food was good too. 👍 …
Autumn Ledbetter
I don’t like most zoos but this one was great. The animals looked happy and the layout was fantastic. Loved the little side roads to walk around slow walkers and strollers. Go early and the animals are very active!
R Syed
Kids loved the zoo. I liked the rental services where we can rent strollers, wheelchair, electric cart etc.
Vic
Very nice zoo. Lots of shade
Brad Lomen
There was alot of staff present, the animals have tons of room which is great to see. Anytime I asked staff about anything they were all very helpful and knowledgeable. Pricing for tickets was very affordable, the gift shop is a bit pricey, but I semi expect that as it probably helps maintain the animals. Overall probably the best zoo in the Pacific Northwest.
Bryant Givens
Got in at 11 left at 2:30 saw everything but a few that where closed. I'd recommend checking the schedule to see what events and talks are taking place on the day you plan to visit. 11 was a great time to get in start in Africa and work your way around caught multiple feeding and play times!!
CC Bee
Big zoo. We came right after seattle started opening up. Bring comfortable shoes as lot of walking. They had a dinosaur exhibit but it is extra/on top entrance fee.
Justice Erikson
We had a wonderful time, the paths were shader than I expected which was great. Beautiful animals, happier than they are in other zoos.
Jessica Oxley
Really nice, but a lot of exhibits were under construction/maintenance
Yazmin orozco
We enjoyed all the open exhibits. The best animals were taking a nap during the day. We still enjoyed the habitats the animals live in. More exhibits will be opening up soon. The wolves were great to see from the distance.
Martin Frasch
Fun stroll as always, but also quite a few empty cages. Very friendly and knowledgeable care takers. I want the elephants back. In this weather, be sure to put your rainboots on! Most interesting areas are not asphalted.
04/22: fun as ever. Some attractions will open in May, but still great time to see now.
Nolan Christensen
Great zoo! Solid covid precautions, wasn't as packed as it used to be. Got to see almost all the animals except a few in the temperate forest exhibit that's currently being remodeled. The petting zoo isn't nearly what it was but that's to be expected. Great time, enjoyed everything we got to see.
Did not visit the dinosaur exhibit as it cost a bit extra- I think $5 or so- but that was fine. From what I saw was mostly large animatronics.
Gift shop was open, food was available, staff was helpful. Would go again!
STREETBEEFS SCRAPYARD
We bought a year membership. I feel like for the price it was definitely worth it. My only complaint is parking. I don't think paying for parking should be a requirement. It's the zoo's lot, everyone there is for the zoo, why charge extra to park?
Michelle Roberts
Worth a visit. The gorilla's were amazing
RandomRaven87
Finding something to do while social distancing is difficult. The Woodland Park Zoo seems to be doing everything right to make a trip to the zoo as safe as possible. They are opened at 25% capacity, they have one way walking paths, all indoor exhibits and events are closed, and masks are required. They have outdoor eating spaces that are tented. My son and I had a great time walking around and looking at the animals and the lanterns. The employees were all very nice and helpful! Everything was very reasonably priced. I look forward to going back again soon!
Amber Osborne
Got an early reservation time which was great because there was parking. You have to have an app to pay for parking. They did a great job having people 6 feet apart. A lot of families did not respect the social distancing and at the exhibits would let their children run in front of other families or not have their masks on. It seems a few parents didn't care and let their kids treat the zoo as a playground. Downside to going early means some of the animals are still asleep. For what we paid, it was worth it.
Jessica Pacciotti
I've visited Zoos all around the country and this was easily one of my top experiences anywhere. The exhibits are close enough to each other that you're not walking forever but they also don't encroach on each other's space. The feeding penguins experience I highly recommend. I also was very enthusiastic about how the animal displays are built and how they provide for a close viewing experiance.
Audrey Serrano
NVR knew of this zoo but it's worth the drive. The admission prices are fair and the view and how they have it set up is even better. Don't recommend to buy the Mexican food in there now those prices are ridiculously over priced for the amount of food you get. They sell everything separately not worth it.
The rest of the zoo is clean. Will be visiting again.
Nikki Benson
We have a annual passes to the zoo, and go every couple of months. It is small enough to walk through the whole thing in a couple of hours but large enough to make a day of it. We love the carasouel and the PNW forest like play area for kids to explore.
Heather DeMarce
Who doesn't love a good zoo trip? Each corner filled with little pockets of what feels like magic. Taking you from continent to continent. Decent pricing, love that you can bring a Picnic. Don't like that parking is so expensive now
Patricia May Straker
Woodland Park Zoo is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon. Penguins, birds, gorillas... Zoo Lights is so great to take your kids, your grandchildren. Get a membership, the Woodland Park Zoo is awesome! Seniors... .50 coffee!
Jessica Maughan
An amazing place to spend the day!! Walk around all day or just spend a few hrs enjoying the animals. Everytime we go, we see something new!
Audrey Graham
A great zoo that you can spend all day wandering around. Animal enclosures well done and animals seem well taken care of. Food is pretty good too but a bit pricey.
Jamison Johnson
This is a big zoo and they seem to make efforts to care for the animals and make things accessible. They have fun shows and special Christmas programs with carols, lights, and such. Fun for the family!
Dustin Lawrence
Amazing Zoo.
Wonderful collection of animals. Really like that the rhinos replaced the elephants, though, it was Asian themed while I'm pretty sure the rhinos were from Africa (at least the ones I saw).
The orangutans and gorillas are probably the high point. They do so many amazing things and have really nice exhibits.
The brown bears and jaguar are very impressive and, usually come out to show off.
I do miss the nocturnal exhibit and reptile house though. Maybe they'll be back some day.
Overall, very great zoo experience. PNW folks are very lucky to have Point Defiance, Woodland Park, and the Oregon Zoos. All amazing in their own ways.
HA
Size is perfect for kids. Lots of viewing points for animals. My kid loved the Komodo Dragons. A few items were closed like the bug hut and there were no signage about that but it wasn't a big deal.
Elizabeth Olson
Lots closed due to weather and remodels, but still fun.
Mikayla Savage
I was here for a special event so I'm not sure how the zoo is during regular hours, but I can say this: the exhibit design was absolutely phenomenal, the zoo is very sustainable, the trails were nice, and they've got cute gift shops. They have not only recycling bins but also compost bins, refillable water stations, reusable bags, and they sell a lot of sustainable and recycled stuff in the gift shops. The collection of animals is great and I saw a lot of enrichment. Fantastic facility!!

For over 100 years, Woodland Park Zoo has been a cherished community resource and a unique urban oasis. Generations of Puget Sound families have come to the zoo to marvel at the animals and be inspired by the beauty of the natural world. A national award-winner, Woodland Park Zoo features hundreds of rare animals and endangered species. They save animals and their habitats through conservation leadership and engaging experiences, inspiring people to learn, care and act. During your visit, feel free to make use of their free mobile app, which not only helps you navigate the zoo, but also offers secret zoo tours, hosts the daily schedule of activities, and provides fun facts about many of their animals.
Throughout the summer, Woodland Park Zoo also offers daily giraffe and elephant feedings at an extra cost, keeper talks, and family-friendly games and animal encounters in Zoomazium, including rides on their historic carousel. On the weekends, pay a visit to their African Village near the South Entrance to take part in an elephant poo paper making activity—a family favorite for zoo visitors. Woodland Park Zoo encompasses 92 acres and features more than 1,000 individual animals representing nearly 300 species. Animals aren't all you'll see here because the zoo also has a botanical collection of more than 92,000 plants and trees that represent more than 1,000 different species. The grounds are divided into what are known as bioclimatic zones, the unique habitats around the world, from tropical rain forests to the frigid climes of the Far North, creating the perfect environments for each animal.

I’ve already reviewed it here, but it’s worth mentioning again. This place is teeming with new and exciting things to see. It’s so good, I had to get a membership. Check out the new bears! They’re so playful!
Elyse
There were alot of animals to see today! We also paid the extra $5.00 to see the Dinosaurs. It was definitely worth it. My son had so much fun!
bryan lentz
Great Zoo, lots of animals, clean wide paths, easy parking.
I live 15 min away so I bought a membership and visit several times a month and always have a good time looking at the animals and letting my son run around
Scott Bryan
Great place for kids of all ages and animal lovers. Animals have enclosures with activities to keep them busy.
Baby Gorilla is super cute and a must see.
Tons of special events throughout the year.
Parking is pay by phone, app, or website.
During the pandemic tickets need to be bought in advance online.
Jackie Morgan
The light show was beautiful. The kids had a great time 😁
Rhema Neas-Gass
I have always been impressed by this zoo. It is ALWAYS very clean, inside the enclosures and out. The animals always seem to have as much space as possible, and lots of areas for personal enrichment such as toys, hides, and hidden treats. The zoo loop is fun, and a great walk with things to see along the way. I highly recommend Woodland Park Zoo.
This year was the first year they did Zoolanterns: Wildlights, the holiday light show. It was so immaculately planned out, and sold out....I wish I could have gone more than once! Zoostaff was making sure everyone was safe, and they also had warming stations scattered through the zoo...cute little bonfires to stay warm. The zoo sold snacks and cute winter themed sweaters as well. As far as the lights...everything was better than I could have ever imagined! Literally, they were lantern style animatronics! The fact that they moved really made everything cooler.
I hope they bring this back because it would be a shame to only see them once. They look like they took so much effort and it was a feast for the eyes.
Nikhil Verma
Great place to take kids. Well maintained and kept clean. Dedicated eating and resting areas through out the zoo. Wish the washrooms had no touch faucets and soap dispensers.
Nancy Boutwell
Nice care of the animal residents and the human guests! The Zoomazium is a great indoor play area for rainy days. We had the place practically to ourselves after a little rainfall today!
Trager Joswig-Jones
Every chance I've gotten to go to the Woodland Park Zoo has been an enjoyable adventure. All the animals seem to have adequate space and habitats. Given this you'll likely only get to see about 2/3 of the animals, as they can be hiding or out of the viewing habitat for some reason or another, but with the size of the zoo there is plenty more to see. The last time I went in November 2020, they were handling the covid restrictions well. The occupancy of the zoo was limited and staff were monitoring how many people were in any of the more closed off areas. Unfortunately most of the indoors areas were not open to viewing, but there were many more opportunities to spent time looking at the animals with a much smaller crowd around.
Emily Lozier
We like coming here but we were very sad to see alot of exhibits no opened and a lot of the animals weren't out so it ended up being a lot of walking. My son did love the dinosaurs that were there and geeked out the whole time.
Cyndi Markle
This is a great zoo. The enclosures are large and easy to view from different points. You can see Lions, tigers, bears, salmon, turtles, rhinos, and lots of different birds from all over the world.
dhiraj gupta
Wonderful Lanterns to showcase different birds and Animal themes. Our favorite one was from Africa, to be specific it is inspired from lion king. Overall great experience. If possible get into 4:30 pm slot, its not crowded and dark enough to enjoy lights
Angela Fessia
Absolutely wonderful experience! The habitats are well planned & wide open, leaving the animals to roam freely about in their individual habitats. Can't wait to go back!
nick caudill
92 acres is a lot. We are planning on becoming members and utilizing it as a regular hangout. There are so many places here to just relax, maybe have a picnic and take it easy. Our toddler loves it and it's peaceful. The staff seem to love it as well.

Earlier this year I went on company team outing with my team during the woodland Zoo lights show where the animals couldn’t come out for winter so they brought us Seattle folks the beautiful Zoo lights!
Truly an amazing experience and would definitely recommend!
Cathy Mitchell
Beautiful grounds. Most animals are in large enclosures. Had up all the lights for the seasonal light show up which were very cute without even being lit.
Patrick H
Been to many zoos...this one is done right. Some places felt like they brought in the folks from Disneyland to mock up the area with faux and real plants to make you feel like you were in the jungle, desert, etc. Great assortment of animals. Walking path is a bit interesting where there's an outer loop with some spokes and a set of interior paths...some times causing your to back track. All good.
Mary Elizabeth
My family an I enjoyed out visit an will be returning again. Everyone was very polite an professional, the park was decently maintained given the covid 19 situation.
Cristin Hendrickson
They have done an amazing job trying to make sure you get a great experience while following COVID protocols. We went right at open, spent almost 4 hours exploring, and were able to see all the animals except for 2.
Abhishek Malyala
Lovely place to take your kids. Make sure you drop the family off closer to the entrance with strollers and then go searching for parking. Parking is ample but sometimes can be a longer walk to the ticketing gate.
You might want to get the annual pass if you want to visit more often. It saves you a lot of money.
Depending on the weather, sometimes the animals aren't visible. The zoo has a great map and you should plan 2-3 hours before lunch, and 2-3 hours after lunch to leisurely visit all exhibits.
For photographers, long lenses are your friend in the zoo. Most places are out in the open. Some well ventilated indoor places, the flexibility of a f2.8 mid-range zoom, like a 16-55 works well enough. Some poorly lit exhibits like the bugs world would need a fast f1.4 prime to keep the ISO down.
I think they do allow tripods but it may slow you down, and are of no use as most animals keep moving.
If you have the skills to focus fast, a macro lens will give you some good pictures of flowers and birds, especially in the aviaries.
Hayden Golden
It was very nice and beautiful! Though it was pretty crowded. Some people were just walking in front of my way while I was trying to take pictures. People, displeasing. Lights, pleasing.
Brian Erickson
The Zoo Lights event at the Woodland Park Zoo is absolutely delightful. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of illuminated life sized or larger than life sized animal and plant sculptures. It's great for kids and adults!
Carl Horn
Was both my son's first tyme there. And there mom. They had such a good time. Only bad thing, I wished I waited one more day for the dinosaur exhibit to open. My boys love dinosaur. Tyme to plan another trip.
TH McDaniel-Rogers (Scott)
Not a bad covid experience. Plenty to still do and see with minimal crowds. Food gets expensive so bring your own (especially water, which is only sold in small $4.50 cans). All the indoor areas are closed so go into it expecting only the base animal experience. Took my friend there and we still had a 4 hour enjoyable day.
Candice Dhuri
Visited the zoo two times, once in the morning to see the animals and once at night for the lantern show.
Loved this place. The social distance measures were well taken care off. The orangutan was the cutest.
jae yu
I always enjoy visiting zoos. This zoo was compact so it was easy to loop around without getting lost. Bonus points for a dramatic mangoose :D
Joshua Granberg
This is a pretty nice zoo. Not the best I've ever been too, but they are getting new animals pretty consistently and seem to really care for the animals.
Lois Schneider
Nice zoo for a family with a small toddler. Fairly level, good amount of animals and exhibits. This was the best Flamboyance of flamingos we've ever seen. Not too hot and it isn't molting season. Beautiful birds today.
sagar athanikar
Healthy, happy animals. The staff is incredibly helpful. We went there thinking it’s going to be a 1-2 hour trip, but ended up spending the entire day and then have been there thrice!!
Matt Swift
Went there during covid. They have a great system for staggering visitors and ensuring good people flow within the park with a one way system. Unfortunately a lot of exhibits were closed for maintenance.
Jeff Lewis
Beautiful and fun interactive zoo.
We had a great time exploring the zoo and seeing as many animals as we could.
Even in a little Seattle drizzle it was still fun.
The food at the cafe was mostly decent, but can get pricey with a big party. Maybe pack something for a picnic for more healthy option.
I reccomend a day at the zoo to anyone, not just kids.
Support conservation, enjoy the animals 😀💚
Jenni C
Had a great visit with the family both my nephews and both my nieces my brother and my parents plus my coworker all had a blast here everybody wore masks and they had lots of cleaning stations throughout the park
Michelle Masson
I have loved WPZ since I was a child. They have set up new social distancing and a one-way path through the zoo, which is like 95% perfect. My only small complaint is that the signs weren't clear that you would miss some animals if you followed a specific route, so I didn't get to see my fave animals (the tigers). But we're members, so I'm excited to go back when the close-up experiences are open again.
Uttara Ananthakrishnan
What's not to like..Big zoo, animals are amazing..the Malayan tapirs are so cute. Great place for kids as they can run around.
Sebastian Banica
One word, AMAZING! It's a beautiful Zoo with a lot of animals, fish and insects. You can easly spend at least 5 hours roaming around and admiring the views around( I know i did). The animals have a lot of space to move around and they have everything they need. Sometimes this can be a little problem because you can't see them, so you need to wait for them to walk around. Anyway, it remains one of the most beautiful zoos out there!
Crewsont
Had a blast with the family here! A lot of different exhibits for all different types of animals as well as plenty of activities for your children if you have them with you to keep them entertained. Food and refreshments are a little pricey, but overall this is a great place to take the family for a good part of the day.
Michael Isaksen
Really fun experience for the whole family. Clean, safe, and informative zoo with extensively knowledgeable staff and great animal viewing opportunities. They also have plenty of interactive exhibits and regular events. It's roughly $20 per person plus parking.
Shane Mc
I had a great time. Big beautiful zoo. The animals looked happy and well cared for.
Bailey Demi
I was surprised not to see as many animals as usual but I took my baby there for her first trip to the zoo and she absolutely loved it. I wish we could have seen more animals though I felt like we didn't even get to see a quarter of the animals in their exhibits but I guess we just have to try again the animals don't know we're there so we'll have to leave a note next time.
Sophie Debs
I love the zoo :))
Ferniper (the two bear cubs) are lovely and I hope they get to stay in the same exhibit together forever I can't wait to watch them grow up
the new Northwest exhibit is really lovely too it's a nice little addition and I really liked seeing the turtle nursery
helps that part of the zoo feel very grounded in the PNW while the others branch out more
the tapirs are my favorite... I would really like if there was a meet-and-greet where you could pet them like some of the other ambassadors, but I understand that they might not like being around people.
zoo does a really good job and I really appreciate it as an important part of Seattle 🥰
Cameron Griffith
I haven't been to very many zoos in my life but I would say this one is too tier. Great view of many of the animals. Close up experiences with 3 aviaries with birds just flying around you. See attached map for animals that are in this zoo.
It's hard to do this zoo in just one day. The yellow loop (on the map) is one mile and you will probably end up walking closer to 2 miles because you can't just walk around the main loop.
They have extra experiences with the animals at certain hours of the day. You can look these times up on their website. For example there is an opportunity to feed a rhino but it costs 10 dollars extra. And you will have to wait in line. But it's a great photo opportunity.
There is a zoo cafe with some food. A little expensive but decent. See photo for food prices as of Oct 2019.
Niti Gupta
We went in peak winter so no tropical animals except lion. We did see penguins, gray owl, snow owl, flamingos, Komodo dragon, wolves, and red panda. Maybe not a winter activity but definitely will become a member to enjoy it more in summers.
Dragon Sharkbites
Staff were awesome. Social distancing was honored by other patrons as well as respect in allowing everyone a chance to view exhibits without hostility twords one another or hogging of space. Staff were very friendly and didn't rush anyone along during closing time. Just made sure they knew it was time to leave and to please do so at a respectful pace.
Emilygrace Piel
This zoo is absolutely wonderful and has some of the best executed reopening plans that I’ve seen since the pandemic started.
My partner and I visited twice before the pandemic started and a third time since they’ve reopened.
They had a very clear cut path for everyone to follow through the zoo and the staff were diligent but polite about making sure distance was maintained between parties but that everyone also got to see what they came for.
Some of the more interactive exhibits were closed, but that’s understandable and I’m sure they’ll be open again one day!
Ethan Z
Amazing Zoo! I would give this place a 6 out of 5 star review! There are so many amazing exhibits! The animals exhibits were large so the animals can live a good life! The grounds were clean! The penguins were the best they were swimming right by the glass giving you a fun show! The zoo has many different animals from different areas of the world making the experience great, I saw animals I would never see in the wild! Every time you go it will be a different experience because of how the animals act! Daily there are shows too! They let the giraffes go into the savanna so they cross the path 2 times a day! This is definitely worth a visit!
Stacy Inomura
This is the best zoo I have visited! Great experience)
They have many exhibits, all cages nicely maintained and cleaned. Animals look happy and healthy. My favorites are giraffes ❤️ also I enjoyed program with rhino - very interesting info from the zookeeper.
The zoo has big territory, lots of benches and resting points. Children will enjoy as well.
Parking lots are big enough for many visitors.
Alison Lafek
We had such a great day here! They have a butterfly garden which I loved.
All animals look well cared for, enclosures were clean and spacious and lots of information is around the enclosures to learn about the animals.
Chandu Kurali
Awesome wildlife park and one of my favorite places in Seattle. We visit this zoo multiple times a year and my daughter enjoys her every moment.
Great place for kids to learn about animals and have fun at the same time. Clean, well organized and the staff is very friendly. Plan on spending min 3-5 hours here. There is a zoo cafe with some food options. If you can , provide support to the zoo and help conserving the natural world :)
Dwight Amstutz
This was used with the City Pass. We loved the Zoo! This zoo has an easy to navigate layout. I love the giant trees hanging over many of the paths. The animals were very active today, despite the rain. We enjoyed the feeding the birds with the seed stick purchase. The Grizzly bears were fascinating. Just to witness their power while trying to get a back rub from the tree was so cool. I've seen a lot of zoos and we were impressed. Gorillas were napping during our visit out of the rain. I don't blame them. Butterfly area, kids play areas and the farm area are all well done. They have good coffee here as well. This is a must do for any animal lover. Parking was $7-8 .
Amit Das
Went to the woodland park zoo for the 'Wildlanterns'. We enjoyed our 2 hours of stay. Event was well organized and the staff was super helpful. Ample parking for $4 +tax (for 2 hours). Event was sold out but there still was a lot of space for social distancing. Nice and easy one way walk to see the attractions. My kids enjoyed being out after a while. I did get a bit cold though for which they had fire places at multiple points throughout. All in all, we loved the experience. Highly recommend!
Carolyn Wei
It’s a nice place to walk around and look at animals. We have an annual membership which makes it easy and more affordable to pop in and out and make short trips to see a few animals.
Jamie P
Loved to see the animals. With that said I wasn't to pleased with how they are doing things. Couldn't go into any of the attractions which is half the zoo. Plus all extra little stands closed down. But their little food spots were open but think $3 per every 12oz can of soda was just plain dumb. With that pricing the 6 of us just waited to eat after we left. And with the way people are being let in you end up with whole groups of people going thru every half hr or so which made the crowding a little much at the few spots you could find animals. Long lines to see said animals. The zoo was clean and animals looked well cared for. Enclosures did seem small for some of animals.
Estonian Family
Went first of August and they are operating pretty well with Covid. 100% face coverings on everyone and one way paths with everything outdoor. So it seems pretty safe for family. Some areas closed off so not getting full experience. I do like the limited attendance and selling only so many tickets for any given hour. They did sell out for the Saturday we went but got tix ahead. Overall they have decent animals but lots of other zoos bigger or better. Its ok for what it is.
Kianna H
Super fun and pandemic-ready. I think the pricing is reasonable and I love being at the zoo when it's empty and I can see all the animals up close and personal. I'm just sad that the budgie birds exhibit is not open. Also, SUPER grateful that I can just bring in any water and snacks I want. Free parking nearby too. Very happy with this place!
Stephanie Silverthorn
Very fun place! I recommend going sooner in the day to see all of the animals. They start taking them in for the night pretty early.
Alex Eby
Our family had a perfect day at the zoo! It was our son's first time (2.5yrs) and he loved every minute of it. He walked the whole way and could not get enough of all the animals! We were also fortunate to see the bears and the lions moving and in full view! The facility is really laid out really well and it appears all the animals are well taken care of. Definitely a zoo you need to check out!
Paul Sandoval
Fun zoo with a good walking path and nice exhibits
Annette de Soto
We've been going to the zoo more often during the pandemic and are so grateful they are open and helping visitors practice social distancing. When an animal is especially active, people still crowd together to get a good view so we just step aside. But their one way pathways and signage is much appreciated.
Shannon Riddle
The zoo is AMAZING! So many different and exciting animals, and there are encounters available too! We got to feed penguins, which was so much fun for everyone in our group, including my baby niece. Many of the animals were active, and some even engaged with the park visitors. The bathrooms and other facilities are very well maintained, and the paths are paved and perfect for wheelchairs and strollers. The gift shop was great too, and had some toiletries for visitors in need. Check online or in local brochures for coupons!
Angela Liao
I was pleasantly surprised to see a great variety of animals at this zoo. This park is clean, well-maintained and very family friendly. I went with my toddlers, ages 1.5yo and 3yo, and they loved it! The carousel was a nice bonus attraction to wrap up our visit here.
aaron euart
Amazing from price to experience I will most definitely be coming back again very clean the staff is amazing aswell as the exhibit's you can feed the penguins which is an awesome experience a place to absolutely visit with or without kids
Michelly Calzadilla
beautiful zoo! It is super large, has many animals of all types are divided into continents. The animals are looked after and clean. There are small shops and restaurants. the entrance is a bit expensive but it is worth the price.
Jeff Potts
The zoo was awesome. Plenty of safety policies in place for COVID so we felt safe. All the other guests were cooperative in following rules. A great day learning and seeing some amazing animals.
Summer Holeman
We spent the whole day here! The weather was chilly so the animals were out and about putting on a show. I forget about this little gem so close to home. We packed our food in and admission was not expensive (unlike larger zoos) so it was not an expensive day. And so many fun memories for the kids.
Kristen Deskin
I’ve been a member for years and every experience is amazing! My children have a new and fun experience. The animal feeding experiences are truly exceptional. Currently they have rhino, giraffe and penguin feeding options. The petting zoo is fun, there’s two different herds which are rotated so they’re always inter-active.Bug world is back by the farm area and is a unique experience. If you’re trying to cool off in the summer or need to escape the rain, the zoonasium Is indoors and is awesome, lets kids get out some of that big energy safely. They also have activity packs you could check out and take around the zoo. We preferred to take short trips throughout the year because we have a membership but you can definitely do the whole zoo in one day. You can bring a lunch to save money but the food there is really good!
Doyeli Chakraborty
Very nice zoo. Kids love the exhibits and very convenient with strollers and everywhere it's accessible. The zoo Cafe had very good choices of food.
Alex Keen
The wife and I have been here twice and we really enjoyed both trips. Very enjoyable atmosphere. Good variety of animals, no elephants at this time. (one of our favorites) A little pricey compared to others zoo's we have been to, but it felt worth it when we left.
Daylin
It's even better now! They really had a good system worked out, so much so that my 76 year old mother and her older sister felt safe to come out and do this with us. Besides feeling safe, we had the added bonus of so few people in the Zoo that we got to see everything more up close and without crowds. It was ideal, wish they could keep it like that always!
Lexi
Great zoo! Most of the habitats are well thought out to give the animals a realistic space to live. Make sure to catch the keeper talks. Especially the raptors as it gives you a chance to see the animals up close. There are volenteers stationed and they are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the animals. The butterfly garden is peaceful and beautiful. With four different exits/entries you don't have to worry about having to make walk all the way back to the beginning of the park.
Samuel Patterson
Really great zoo! Fun variety of animals, although a little confusing to navigate. Great place to go with friends or family. There is an area with many birds flying around, and you can buy a $2 stick with bird food on it and the birds will fly on you and eat off the stick, that’s pretty fun
Renee Steuer
I took my Grandson Elliott to the lantern lights at the zoo for his 2nd birthday. He was in awe, just as we all were! It was definitely a memorable experience. The lit up animals and plants were just spectacular! We loved it, and it definitely made a little boy very happy! Thank you!
Cliff Steinhauer
Love our local zoo!! The revised Covid policies are well thought out and they continue to improve. The animals seem happy and well fed and the park is always clean. Will be bringing our baby here for years to come.
Carlos Quezada
The Zoo was a lot of fun! I'm from San Diego so we have a pretty good Zoo to beat bit this zoo was a lot of fun plus its included in the CITY PASS which I recommend if your visiting Seattle. But pretty cool they have this little baby giraffe. I would recomend you plan out 3-4hrs to see everything. Its not the biggest zoo but will take time to see everything! Thanks Woodland!!!
Stef P
We visited the zoo while on vacation in Seattle and were only able to spend a couple hours there before having to leave. It is a fairly big zoo and we had to rush through. I would have liked to spend a longer time there and I can certainly see people spending a good few hours here especially families. I think you would enjoy it even if you weren't with the family. They have a big variety of species in the zoo and they do a great job of the exhibits. I did not try any of the food so I am not sure about that. I would not mind going back to the zoo if I am ever back in Seattle.
Bryan Zandi
Amazing place for both kids and adults. I’ve visited a dozen Zoos, but Woodland Park Zoo for sure takes the first rank. The number and variety of animals was great. The design of cages also was fantastic. However, other amenities such as bathrooms caught my attention by being filthy.
Karen Williams
Spent a great day here! There's a one way system in place to minimise crowding and the staff are all very knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the animals they care for. I think some of the exhibits were closed due to the season/covid restrictions so will definitely have to go back!
Babette Lenz
I love the zoo! The exhibits are great, lots to see. Bring a sack lunch, food is expensive. They have these great water bottle filling stations too, although I couldn't find one from the map and it was quite frustrating. Enjoy!!!
Kassandra Bell
Always great. We got there right at opening this time so some of the exhibits were still being cleaned and the animals weren't out but so we got scared it would be a disappointing day but we saw them all and so many were in great viewpoints that they were easy for even my 6 year old to spot. Her favorites are the zebras and giraffes and the flying fox. We got to hear the tiger roar this time so that impressed her, too.
Allyson Plaxco
Great zoo! It looks big but actually the animal enclosures are just massive! Like another reviewer said sometimes the animals hide do too the enclosure being so big you wont get to see them but this helps the animals have a better life I think! We walked the whole zoo and saw all but maybe 3 animals in about 3 hours.
Kevin Cole
Great place to spend a day viewing a huge variety of animals. Some hours are when some animals tend to sleep or rest, but you can usually see a lot of the animals out throughout the day. The layout of the zoo is also easy to go through and not have to back track too much. And the layout is sorted by regions around the world, so helps with educational purposes as well.
David Kassis
Great time with my 4year old son. Weather was great the animals and birds we visited were fairly visible. It was a little confusing following the maps until we figured out it was a loop. If you go, make sure you have ample time as it is well spread out. The only turn off is the food court, not a good selection and it is pretty pricey.
D.neil0 M
Brought my grandson and kids here for Labor Day weekend. It was so nice outside but only saw a few animals. It was also tough because the Covid rules were stringent but what we did see were some good ones! I’m sure if it wasn’t Covid season it would have been a better more free way to visit. I appreciate them trying so much though! We will have to come back after Covid season or election 😉
Steve Johnson
Cute zoo. However, very annoying to come in and pay full price, and only see half the exhibit. Half the park is closed, half the animals were out, didn't even see any of the 8 gorillas out today. Stuff was either under construction or closed off areas due to covid.
Tarn Gill
The zoo is great all the exhibits are amazing. It does take some time to see the animals come out. Once they do it's really worth the wait. In our trip we had a hard time seeing the tiger jaguar and the lion. But everything else was great. The middle of the zoo has a large open Safi with a few mix of animals that you can watch from viewing areas. My experience at the woodland zoo was great I would give your self no less then 4 hours to explore. I can't comment on the learning/shows that really place at the zoo as our visit was later in the day and they had already ended. All in all this is a great distention for families
Krystal Whittenburg
You can get here from downtown by bus. It's super easy and convenient to get to. I went there for a company picnic. The zoo was really nice. Most of the walkways have plenty of shade. Food prices are a little high as well as the gift shop. I would definitely bring a reusable water bottle as they have fill up stations all over the park (and it's free to fill). Will definitely go again.
Gena Vansickle
We came for the Wildlights on a Sunday night. I bought our tickets online to avoid the lines. They had a great display with plenty of warming stations and activities. Last year we went to the Zoo Lights at Pount Defiance Zoo and I found the experience at Woodland Park Zoo to be superior. (I suggest getting a Turtle Mocha, it was awesome!)
Stephanie Milliette
Such a great day for my 10 year old daughter and myself! The only downside was the parking, the lots seemed way too small for the area and as we came on a Saturday we drove around for a good half an hour before snagging a lucky spot on the street as someone pulled out. Otherwise the zoo was fabulous, well laid out and easy to find the different habitats. Food is WAY over priced, for example $2 for a couple tablespoons of cheese to dip a pretzel in on top of the cost of the pretzel is a little ridiculous when you can buy a 24oz jar of the stuff for the same price in a store. I would definitely plan on bringing lunch with me next time. I did appreciate the set up they had for the food court as it kept the lines moving quickly and the food hot. We saw lots of the animals, only a couple weren't viewable, they also had a great selection of stuffed animals, shirts, keychains, etc. in the gift shop and lots of deals to keep costs down which I appreciated. The carousel was enormous and fun. Overall great experience and we'll definitely be back!
Mari Griffith
What an amazing place. There are so many different environments and animals to explore. I appreciate that there are restroom stops frequently along the paths and several spots for snacks and refreshments. You need to definitely plan a full day here to really enjoy everything and not wear yourself out trying to hurry to get to everything.
They have several varieties of slushies at the snack area that are free refills, which was so nice for our family when we got hot & thirsty. We can't wait to go back.
Monique S
The zoo has a more natural setting unlike others. It is beautiful and serene. I particularly enjoyed walking through the tropical jungle type areas. The animals are exquisite. We were able to see quite a few of them the day we went and we were fortunate to have a sunny day in Seattle! They also have a wonderful carousel that is run by solar power. I thought that was AWESOME!
Mihaela Constantinescu
The Seattle Woodland Zoo has a big variety of animals/birds/reptiles. You can visit it in about 2 hrs. I'd suggest that if you're from Seattle, to go during summer time, this time the outside temperature is nicer and you'll actually enjoy walking.
The animals are well taken care of, there may be situations when some of the animals won't be available to see, depending on the time you're there.
A good experience, good for everyone, all ages. 🙂
William Mobley
Friendly staff. Lots of animals to see. Really nice exhibits for the animals. Really well maintained. Having many different food places scattered throughout the zoo was nice. Bathrooms were readily accessable thought the park. Prices were good for good and snacks too.
Y. Lee
This zoo is my favorite in Washington. I am a person who loves animals and curious of the animals. Therefore, I loved to visit this place and meet different kind of animals. In the zoo, there is place to rest like a cafe, so do not need to worry about being exhausted. I visit this place by purchasing all-in-one ticket (space needle, garden, zoo) and I think this was a great choice to save a bit money. If you love animals, I prefer you to visit.
Allison Fite
I loved taking my 1 year old for his birthday! He loved it. There was open space for him to walk around. Also adequate space to sit down for lunch.
Krista F
This an absolutely beautiful zoo. It's so natural, with dirt paths that make it feel less zoo-like. We were there with a large group of families with Special Needs kiddos while in town for a convention for our son's genetic condition. This zoo made us feel very welcome, and was fun for everyone that joined us! Oh, and they have DOLE WHIP!!!
Dana Wark
Well-planned , natural habitats are accessed along verdant green pathways. A wide variety of animals are available for viewing and because the zoo is so spread out it seldom seems crowded. Lots of benches and tables all around the zoo grounds to eat a picnic lunch.
Amanda Johnson
Where are all the animals. Seemed like half the zoo was under construction or no animals in the exhibit. Thank goodness it was part of the city pass or I would have felt scammed for the ticket price.
Zach W
The zoo offers a wide variety of animals to see and seems to be taking good care of them. Rest rooms seemed clean and well-maintained, and while the food court was a bit pricey, the variety was good and the food was tasty. I recommend the giraffe encounter: for $5/person, you can see a giraffe up close and feed it a leaf. No petting allowed, sadly, but then you ask yourself if YOU would want to be touched by a bunch of strange creatures all day every day and that policy makes sense.
Also, parking was ample and there were pleanty of shady spots for people to take a rest while walking around.
Luna Lunita
We were just there for my son's end of year field trip. It was awesome. So many animals to visit, so much information to learn about. Great exhibits! We loved it.
Rob Platt
This is a neat Zoo. Big, clean, neat animals and friendly staff. We were there for 3 hours and didn't quite see everything. We'll be back.
Jedidiah Esther
Beautiful place to go with the family. It was a great time walking the zoo but we were disappointed not to have some animals my daughter so wanted to see (hippopotamus most especially) and said was gonna be back in spring. The map given on registering is helpful for those who can use it so well, we got lost several times before we came to using it so well. I feel they can get some more animals to be close to view like the Tiger 🐅 (so far away and just 1 of it).
My daughter surely loved the Carousel that was cheap. The store is also a good place to get some animal character.
Colson
I usually go here once a year. Now that we have a little girl it makes it that much more fun. She loves looking at the animals and loves to walk around and waste all that energy. Big park with a big array of different critters to see. Highly recommend.
Kyle
Amazing zoo with lots of unique animals. My friends and I got there a little late so we weren't able to see everything but that didn't matter. There are so many different animals here and will definitely be going back!
Gordon Duzhou
It was an amazing experience at the Woodland Park Zoo. Every ticket bought supports wildlife conservation efforts around the world. There are free to attend shows that occur throughout the day so keep your eyes out for those, we managed to watch hawks perform on the day we went. The food there is decent but if fast food is not your thing then I would advise bringing some light snacks. At a moderate pace you can expect yourself to make a lap around most of the exhibits in around three to four hours. It is a great place to bring kids or even a date to if your significant other enjoys watching animals. While I am not an expert, it did look like the animals in the zoo were treated with ample respect and were given spacious habitats to live in. Highly recommended.
Luke B
Nice zoo. Some areas could use a little TLC. My son greatly enjoyed it. I definitely will be coming back during warmer weather and after covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
ankita ganapathy
Definitely offers a lot to see and enjoy.HUGE area to walk around in, take pictures, etc.Lots of docents on hand to give info; really good homes for the animals that are clean, well maintained, and have things to keep the animals engaged. We also went during the special lights event during december. This is a special event the zoo has during the month of December after the zoo closes for a few hours in the evening. I feel this one was very unique as it covers half the zoo and of course it is animal themed. They have and eagle flying to its nest , fish swimming, monkeys jumping, herd of elephants drinking from a water hole etc.
Jonathan La Salle
This is the most wonderful and complete Safari Park I have seen and toured. Each Ecosystem is perfectly tailored to each species represented precisely.
Let me remind you, bring your walking legs, wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Expect to spend the day there. We spent 4 and a half hours and I felt rushed and missed many of the exhibits.
There are many bathrooms through out the park, there is plenty of food to purchase and eat in the eating area.
This is by far the best and most positive family experience I have been part of.
Some of the residents will leave you breathless. We took tons of photos for show and tell.
Go early if you have little persons. Bring plenty of diapers, wipes, snacks and entertainment that will keep them quiet and engaged. The sights, smells and sounds are the whole reason we go there.
The Tropical exhibit is humid and soothing. Reminds me of Brazil or Puerto Rico. Smells and sounds like home. Worth mentioning, they actually have real Bamboo trees growing in the park. Unbelieveable!
There are Lions, Grizzlies, Hippos, Wolves, Leopards, Wolves, Elk, Eagles, Salmon, Zebras, aaaaw just imagine. Its there!
Besides the sights of Animals, Birds or Fish there are wonderful people looking at things just like you. Every ethnic background is represented. That makes it such more interesting. The sounds of other languages is truly an enchantment. The children yelling in excitement and the parents explaining what they are to them. The interaction is Magical.
With that said, come to this place. This Magical place and forget what is going on in the World presently. This is a place where Peace finds you.
One last observation. The Park is handicapped friendly and accessible. Plenty of Parking. You will not be disappointed. Bring your family, entertain friends, just go there and make memories.
Thank You to the friendly staff at Woodland Park Zoo. I moved here from Massachusetts just 2 weeks ago and we toured the park with our Daughter and Son and I am wicked impressed as we say in Massachusetts. "Wicked Pissah"

This is a really great zoo! I take my kids there 2 or 3 times a year, and they still keep asking to go back. Great exhibits and loads of volunteers make the place hum. Animals seem to be well kept. If you go with a little bad weather, duck into the zoomazium which will make the trip a little better. If you take a bus or bike there, take your ticket stub or helmet to the front for a discount.

Went with my brother and his family. Love that the paths loop around so you do sections at a time. We got there late so we didn't have time to do the whole zoo and most of the exhibit encounters were over. I didn't like that so much of the special encounters cost so much extra however in all fairness they need to feed the animals

Absolutely WONDERFUL zoo. So many unique animals I had never seen at other zoos, habitats are large and well-designed (both for the animals living in them and the zoo patrons) with multiple viewing points for many of them, so that you can see the animals wherever they are in their homes. Multiple contact points- feed the parrots and waterbirds, pet the farm animals. We ran into a peacock in the line at the Graze Cafe- he gets to roam the zoo as he pleases. The variety of birds is especially impressive, and there are multiple netted enclosures for them to fly around zoo guests if they choose. The animals all seemed so happy and active, nearly 100% were visible when we came by their exhibits. 11/10 will visit again.

Awesome family experience. We were there about five hours. Friendly staff and beautiful animal habitats.

Beautiful zoo!! The space is huge, with an open concept that makes it look like the animals are in their narural space. There are many areas and beautiful trees. Expect to walk a lot. Great place to get an outdoors feeling in the city. The food isn't that good and it's expensive so I'd suggest to bring your own lunch. :)
