Reviews of Smith Tower
Brett Skipper
Stopped in while visiting Seattle because we had heard good things. We were not disappointed. You cannot make reservations here. Usually if you just want to go to the observation deck you can get up there pretty quickly. We went for dinner and drinks in the Chinese Room at the top. It was about a 40n minute wait for a party of 4 on a Saturday evening. Not bad. The food and drinks are pricey but good. You can walk 360 degrees around the top to see Seattle. You get the history of the building on the way up, and both the elevator and the Chinese Room are unique. We would highly recommend visiting!

Charming self-guided tour up the building. I've been wanting to go in this building forever remembering it being a landmark tower on the early Sim City games back in the early 2000's. The art deco motif throughout the building is amazingly beautiful. The best part was the observation deck and the Chinese styled event room at the top. They have a bar there with some of the best ambiance and views, highly recommend.
So much history.
Paola Vallejo (Pao)
Loved the history of this building. The place is beautiful. You need to buy tickets to go to the top, it's the same ticket if you want to visit the restaurant/bar.
One of the things that I was most impressed with was the elevators, they are so pretty.
Truly recommend visiting.

Really cool early 20th century skyscraper with a rich history and unique self-guided tour. The museum portion told the stories of the tenants of the building, many of which had quite interesting lives. At the top of the building is the bar, which gives access to a panoramic view of downtown Seattle. You can see some of the newer buildings, the sound, and the mountains as well. The drinks were great and we had some small bites too which were very satisfying. For a bar with the cover charge being basically a ticket to a museum, it’s well worth the price of admission.

I had some extra time on a trip to Seattle a few years ago, and the Smith Tower was very close to where I was staying. There was no part of my visit to the Smith Tower that I didn't enjoy! I enjoyed all of the historical exhibits and Seattle history I had the opportunity to learn about. I enjoyed the beautiful views from the observation deck. I enjoyed the meal I had up there as well. If you're visiting Seattle, setting aside a few hours to visit the Smith Tower will make for a great time!
Kris C-J of InnerGi Consulting
Beautiful view, but not worth the price of admission. We read a review that said this was a nice alternative to the busy Space Needle, for great photo opportunities, but it was underwhelming. Once up on the top floor, you feel like you're in an open air cage, but at least the bars are wide enough apart to get your camera through for a better shot.
The employees lire you in with stories of those who lived in Smith Towers during Prohibition Era & you could read about some of their affairs & dealings... Cool if you're into stuff like that. To me, it was boring and I wouldn't recommend paying almost $30/ea just for a few photos.

Beautiful observatory and well preserved. You'll find a typewriter on the first floor where you can show your kiddos how we used to do our essays lol! The elevator is the original from last century and there is a restaurant-bar at the top where the observatory is. Nice view but is all fenced with bars unlike newer buildings where the look out is protected by glass to not affect the panoramic view. Is not very busy I guess because there's more modern lookout, but you can't reserve tickets and they say sometimes the wait time could be more than one hour Children under 6 are free and if you have Washington ID you'll get 20% off! 😉
Patricia Fruehwirth
Smith Tower in Seattle was amazing. Started with a trivia search game as walking to the elevator. Game gave you 10% off first drink at bar at top of tower. Elevator beautiful. Views from top tower fantastic. Even had photo machine for free photo at Smith Tower sent to your email. Highly recommend visiting if in Seattle.
Mia Stewart
It's has a great view of the city with 3/4 cheaper then the space needle. Food was great and drinks strong. Has great knowledge on the city on how it was built. Staff excellent customer service. Thanks for showing us California people a great time.
Big Nate
Had a wonderful time here! The tour where you see the life of someone who worked in this building was short but cool. The restaurant at the top has a great aesthetic. Price isn't terrible for the experience. My only gripe was the workers being quite robotic, the one who took our payment and got us sent up was nice but we had noticed she was using a robotic voice when explaining what to do and got her talking normal for a moment and then went back to the routine, same with the elevator guy. Not the end of the world but a little uncanny. The bars at the top deck obscure your view of the city a bit.
Rafael Torres
Every experience here is always amazing. I would suggest going during sunset or night time. Place closes at 11pm. The very top has a bar and kitchen. The outside balcony is gated but has beautiful views of the surrounding area. I wish the city was more expensive, but its still a sight to behold. One side is the Olympic mountain tops over the water and the other is the city.
SV Smith
The view of Seattle alone is worth the price. It's location helped me understand more of the city's orientation. I'd definitely recommend this building if you like architecture -- and want your photo taken as a wonderful memory of your visit.
Kmxix
Mind blowing high frequency good energy from the Smith Tower. So much history and amazing inside and out. The observation deck, cocktails, bar/restaurant are divine and otherworldly. Just GO!
Joss Slagle
This is the most fantastic attraction in Seattle. If you are debating go! It’s interactive and brilliantly designed for all ages although I recommend for those above 21 to enjoy the bar upstairs after solving the puzzles.
Adrian Borchardt
Awesome workup of the history of Smith Tower. Enjoy the Interactive experience then head up the Otis elevator to the observatory and have a drink or just check out the views from the top of the tower.
Scott Bauer
Amazing architecture and view! Did the tour and had drinks and pork dumpling appetizers at the Observatory Bar. Very good.
*Note: We were lucky to get the window table with the view. This table is normally harder to get.
Tori Twine
Disclosure: I am a rum runner. I’ve been going to the Smith Tower for years and have never had a bad experience. Staff is always friendly and the food and drinks are always delicious. Waits can be long on weekend evenings and you cannot make reservations in advance, so be prepared. Great prices on the weekday happy hour specials as well.
Heather B.
Such a cool, historical building! Only stopped in for a quick look, but we will be back for the tour to learn all about the history of this Seattle landmark.
Lena J
Waitress was friendly and quick. Food came out quickly and wine with cheese & cracker were great. The view is spectacular no pics do it justice.
Jorge L
Awesome prices, views, service, and atmosphere. The self guided tour is interesting and let’s you take a peak at the 20s, the elevator is also quite the experience and view since the cabin itself is from the 20s. The bar on the top floor is awesome, I ordered a old fashioned gojira and it was amazing. It’s a nice bar with great views. Check it out if you’re in the area.
Chris Phu
Cool tower with a great observation deck. Tour guide provided an enthusiastic introduction before sending us on our way to look through the history on the bottom floor. Going up the elevator was very cool as you can see into each of the floors while it is moving.
Peter Claydon
There is an exhibition showing the types of businesses that were in the tower in the early 1900s, which I found very interesting. The best part, however, is the bar on the observation deck. Sit and have one or more of their excellent cocktails while looking out over Seattle.
Dijana Danilovic
Awesome experience, amazing views. The staff are very nice as well. There is a bar/restaurant on the top floor too.
Cirrus Sanofi
It’s nice building with the history. But truly sad is the place where is that building. There are plenty of homeless people, they are noisy, smelly and yelling on everybody around. It is a dangerous place mainly for solo travelers even though it is in the middle of the city.
Samantha Santos
Such an iconic stop when visiting Seattle. If you’re looking for a chic rooftop with a beautiful view and tasty drinks this is the place to go. Not to mention the place is crawling with history and stunning architecture.
ariane wagner
Been here a few times. You get an amazing view of the city from the observatory. I love the elevator that takea you up, as its oldschool. They do fantastic cocktails at the bar.
Dondré
Nice panoramic views of Seattle from up here. On a nice clear night you can see all parts of the city. It's caged at the top but still open air so you can see without any glass obstructions. At the top floor there is also a restaurant. The food is pretty good. Definitely a cool place to hang out.
Malte Lantin
Historic skyscraper, the first one in Seattle. Nice exhibition, beautiful interior and an open air observatory on the 35th. It has a bar and restaurant on the 35th floor as well, a hidden gem of Seattle.
Sarah Summey
The views are world class and that makes up for the awkward greetings you receive on busy evenings when trying to just go up to the observatory deck. The deck was somewhat crowded but overall being able to see the city and learn at little about the history of the tower was worth it.
Elly Mioduszewski
Fun history, great cocktails and awesome views. Great business model to charge $20 to get to the observatory before buying drinks 😉 …
Alex Dmitriev
People that work here l, really want your experience to be too knotch. They know their history and they know their drinks. Nothing short of exceeding expectations
Marissa
Delish cocktails and apps, incredible views. As a local I definitely recommend Smith Tower over the Space Needle for skyline views of Seattle and the Sound. I'll definitely be back!
Dana Parcher
The views are amazing, especially at sunset, but the service is shoddy. Some of the staff seem to really care, which is great, so maybe we just got stuck at the one table that took almost an hour and a half for our first drink (at 7p on a Sunday), but it was off. In fact, we only saw our waiter twice all night, at the very beginning and very end (almost 2 hours later). The building is amazing, so immaculate and pristine. The ambiance is perfect! Highly recommend for that alone!
Bev Bromley
Architecture is magnificent. A walk through history. Lounge is beautiful with a view of the city
Carol Lwali
Views, food and drinks are wonderful. I recommend going at sunset. It will take your breath away.
Update 2022: There's a fee to go up to the tower. $14 for WA state residents (ID required) and $19 for non-residents.
Nickawanna Shaw
An architectural marvel of a bygone age. Such care and attention to an aging grand dame. Glad it's still here for us to access and see the sights. Also: Cocktails! What a view!
Jake G
My favorite bar in the city. Why? Well, the drinks are great but you just can't beat the views. In an ever changing downtown core, with new buildings sprouting up all the time, the Smith sits by itself in the south end of downtown in Pioneer Square. The views are unobstructed (save for the birdcage bars that prohibit people falling) and a sunset up here is hard to beat. Arrive early on a weekend, seating and space is limited.
Matthew Feller
We had a bit of sticker shock finding out how much it cost just to ride the elevator up. But the antique old elevator was really interesting. When we got to the top the views from the observatory were stellar.
Our server Adam was spectacular. Really excellent at his job and great customer service. Drinks came out really fast and happy hour pricing was great value. The only downside is we ordered a bento box that took quite a while to come out. But when it arrived it didn't disappoint. We had a great happy hour and overall enjoyed the experience!
Danyel Waller
Highly recommend. Pricey of course. We spent around $100 without tip during HH, but you're paying for the experience and atmosphere. Don't forget about the cost of the tickets up ($16) too. We tried various cocktails, food, desserts, and nothing let us down. Now that's saying something!
The bathroom is not wheelchair accessible that I know of, as it's down a flight of stairs.
Michael Beller
Recommended by our daughter who lives in Seattle we took friends who very visiting from out of state for appetizers and drinks. We were able to head up to the observation deck/bar/restaurant after paying the entry fee (not cheap but worth it for the experience). There is a small museum you walk through before taking the elevator up. We each had a drink and shared a couple appetizers which were quite good. Not sure I'd make it a habit of visiting due to the cost to access the lounge but well worth it if you haven't been and/or have someone visiting.
Lori Wentz
Nice view from 35th floor. Wish could have toured more of the building behind the scenes.
Kelsey C
After living on this side of the state for almost a decade, my husband and I finally visited the Smith Tower on our wedding anniversary, and it was fantastic! Lovely views of the city and the Sound, and the drinks were delicious. The wait staff was incredibly friendly as well. Great place to check out - so much cooler than the damn Space Needle.
Lee Marvin
On a 45 min waitlist then waited another 30 min. Burger and salad were good quality but pricey. Server was friendly. Views were beautiful. Mt. Rainier. 360 degree balcony. Lovely piece of history. May 29, 2021.
Kelly Stokes
Highly recommend a visit to the Smith Tower. There is a fee to reserve a spot in their rooftop bar, but worth it to see the spectacular views and have a drink. Check the hours and enjoy! Discount if you have a Washington ID.
Kevin M. Drury
Majestic landmark building with lounge and observatory on the 35th floor. There's an informative (self guided) tour of the building, which I found interesting. The lounge had a nice selection of cocktails and light dining options. The observation deck had a commanding view of Seattle but other large buildings blocked the view of the Space Needle.
Terry Huang
Great alternative to the Space Needle. The view is just amazing.
Chris Cairns
Amazing views from the top and really interesting and interactive historical exhibition over the first couple of floors
Mara Byleth
Came for a work event & had a great experience! Fantastic views, friendly staff, and the food and desserts were sooooo tasty.
Tina De Lay
was beautiful had original working elevators and fantastic views of the city
Thomas Safran
Great views and very friendly waiter. There was an hour wait since we went on a Friday. It was definitely worth it for the nice views from your table plus being able to walk around outside and the food was good too.
Israel Siria
Probably the oldest deck view building in town. I like the vintage style of the building. The AC at the bar at the top was not working, it got very hot and uncomfortable for a while.
The drinks menu is excellent.
Krystin Samms
Always love coming here for a view, amazing drinks, and the best service! Highly recommend getting a rum runners card!
John Foster
A tad on the pricey side, but nice historical tour. Nice view and great architecture. Good cocktails at the top. Try the Seattle Mule.
Kalin Fohn
Great date night! This was a fun place to go for city views and a drink. While exploring a historic landmark in our city. There is a short exhibit to walk through that provides some history on the building before taking the elevator up. It was busy at 8 pm on a Saturday, but we still didn’t have a problem finding a window seat. We spent just about an hour here, however you could easily double that by enjoying a meal. Recommend buying the Groupon. It’s about $20 for two people and that will save you about $10. Highly recommend doing this if you’re a local or tourist!
Lisa Ware
Well worth the trip up to the restaurant and bar. Go early so you get one of the seats with a water view. It is magnificent as are their specialty cocktails.
Anthony Guzman
Amazing views. Had some cocktails and bites in the lounge on the 35 floor. The food and cocktails were ok and the service is great but the views are the reason you come here.
Ken Wrobel
This is beautiful on the inside. Even the elevator was gorgeous. Now it is $14 per person to go up to the bar on the 35th floor, but you get great views of the city and really good drinks.
Felix Young
Beautiful views and interesting history. Came for a private event, and it was the perfect spot.
francisco gonzalez
Really awesome views. So much history on the walls it's verry cool to see the old time Seattle and publications of the smith tower from when it was first built. It was the biggest building in the us outside of ney york when it was first built. the alaskan marbel on the walls is really nice. If you can make it to the observatory it's well worth it. Verry kid friendly as well.
Nora Carria
We are RumRunner club members and enjoy sharing the perks with our friends. It's always a guess as to why we're placed at which table. Sometimes it's empty and we're given bar stools when we're planning on eating (akward)- and they change the menu fairly often so don't count on the delicious thing you had last time you went.
Teffy Albis
You'll get nice views of the city from the Observatory.
Uyen Tran
The view up at the observatory is awesome. It's not too high up like the columbia observatory but high enough to enjoy the view. The building has so much character. The food at the bar is great too. It's a good place to chill with friends and family. If you are a Washington local, you will get great discount. Remember to bring your Washington id.
Renuka C
Nice view of the city. Lovely building. After taking the beautiful antique elevator up 30+ floors, get ready to climb up the last 2 flights of stairs to get to the observation deck. There’s a bar up there to quench your thirst, if necessary. ( :
Dwayne Liddell
Very beautiful views from this vantage point. You get to see the architecture and how the building used to be ran. You funny have to do the interactive part but you can enjoy the history of the site. I highly recommend if in Seattle.
Ryan AKMohawk
The staff here is so delightful, Adam & Jess, everyone of them is amazing. Even scored a bow tie from an awesome boyscout! This is my usual spot when headed to and from Alaska!
Chris Rhea
Beautiful views of the city from the observation deck of the Smith Tower. One can walk around the outside of the top floor , but don't worry, there are bars to keep you safe. Those interested in history will enjoy all the old pictures and tidbits scattered throughout the building. There is a bar in the observation deck area and I believe they serve food as well.
Susan Gates
Cool spot with some great views, especially at sunset. Grab a drink at the speakeasy up top and enjoy the view. The history and decor take you back to the 1920s and let you learn a bit more about the history of Seattle. No views of the space Needle from here but you still can see Mt Rainier.
Will Cappon
Historic Seattle building with a great cocktail lounge. Decent views from the top. I enjoyed the small exhibit detailing the history of the building.
Outdoor World
Great place for wine / cocktail with awesome view. It can get quite busy here with long wait. Try to go early.
Janele R
Soooo lovely! It’s so stunning once you walk through the entrance. It was very cold and windy but the view was worth it. They also have a small booth inside that takes a professional picture of you!! Super neat
Alma L
Had an amazing time here! Such a beautiful building and so much history! We'll have tooi go back for a guided tour but the self guiding was fun for the later day visit, gave us more room to be flexible with our time. The happy hour at the top is reasonable, especially for a tourist attraction and the prices include tax so you know exactly what you're paying for. Drinks were delicious, still definitely have to try the food.
If you're looking for beautiful sights, a history lesson, architecture, and ambiance, this is a perfect destination.
Matthew
Some of the best views in Seattle!! A historic place that is truly a gem in the modern city. It’s a shame that they’re replacing the elevators with electronic versions so jump in and visit before they are placed!
Bar/restaurant is nice but a little overpriced and has a limited selection - I opted for lunch elsewhere but the view and gift shop/ice cream bar is totally worth a $12 local (WA Resident) admission fee.
Don Mix
I have visited this place once a decade, it's the best it's ever been. I would pay an extra $20 to tour the living area upstairs, and an extra $10 to go in the bubble. Spend some extra time to explore the building. They don't use quality materials like this anymore. Rest, relax, and enjoy the view from the cafe. Bring a real camera. This is a super adventure after you take the underground tour.
Nicholas Capman
Had a great time! I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar at the Smith Tower. It is very laid back and has the right amount of sophistication. The views are as exceptional as the had crafted cocktails. This place is a definite must for people that enjoy prohibition style speakeasies. The elevator was fun and informational and you can't pass up the opportunity to sit in the wishing chair. My girlfriend made sure to let me know that the clock has not started! Tick Tock
Daniel Bliley (DBli)
An amazing observation deck which gives you a 360 degree view of all of Seattle and Puget sound! Plus if you look straight down 2nd, you can even see the Space Needle in between the buildings!
The bar at the top, which I believe is called the Chinese Room, is so nice inside and every seat has a view. The food and drinks are appropriately priced for a nice penthouse style bar, but totally worth it for the service, taste, and experience inside.
Enjoy!!!
Andre Ruette
Restored very well, very enjoyable experience. Great views of the city and a nice bar to enjoy some cocktails while you watch the sun and clouds move on through. The Needle is great but this is where the local's go, don't miss out.
Rachel C
While visiting town I visited the Smith Tower. I waited 30 mins for the next table to be available. Security guys were polite and helpful. I paid $14 to go up to the 35th floor where the restaurant and the observatory deck are. Food is good, Drinks are fancy, tasty and very pricey. I ended up paying $60 for their “Chinese Room Soba Noodle” Salad and Two drinks, I guess you’re paying for the view and the Fancy drinks. The 360° view of Seattle is beautiful at Sunset!! You can stay up as long as you want, I did felt that I was being rushed to leave by my server, I was planning on having more drinks but she brought me my check as soon as I finished my noodles lol. It’s definitely of cool place to check out if you’re visiting Seattle, or just for a romantic date.
Pamela Fleming
I checked out the Smith Tower Observatory for the first time last week with a group of friends. We arrived after 6 so we missed the first floor museum but the lobby had some pretty nice history on its own. The ride up induced some vertigo, but I got over it. We had really great drinks and good food in an upscale environment. I recommend the sazerac and grilled cheese, so good! It's a little pricey so it's great for a date or special night out. Cheers!
Kristina Gav
This place was filled with amazing history stories, historical artifacts from the roaring 20's, a cool old fashion elevator and an awesome rooftop experience. You get to walk around the whole tower outside - literally 360 views , protected of course with birdcage like bars. They also has a decent happy hour and fancy hot teas. We personally really liked the free photobooth that we then got to email the photos to ourselves to then post on social!
Nick Rusch
Tour is reasonably priced and provides an outstanding view to the south, east and west for some distance. Looking north directly into downtown. Before entering the elevator there is a short self guided tour of the towers history. At the observation level there is a restaurant bar along with the observation deck. The restaurant is decorated in an turn of the century Chinese style. The interior of the building entry area on the first floor is beautifully decorated in brass, onyx and granite
Lance Stephens
Great view and drinks. Thoroughly enjoyed my Manhattan and was swayed by the bartender to get a red ale for once.
Probably wouldn't go back except when someone's visiting from out of town though. Got $6 off for being a resident, but the cover is $18 before drinks with elevator rides in 1 - 2 hour intervals.
Larry Canonica
Quite a view from the observation floor. They also have good food and a full bar where they can make you all kinds of vintage and modern alcoholic beverages.
Whether you're a tourist or a native, the Smith Tower is a fun place to grab a drink after work.
Donald Nielsen
The views are spectacular! The food and drinks are very delicious (a little pricey, but worth it), and the wait staff is very friendly.
B. Benavides
Just a great little visit. The workers there are super nice and the view is beautiful. Didn't get the chance to taste some of the food but their lemonade was bomb! For people over 21, their bar seems really freaking good. Perfect place for a romantic dinner :) just wish there was a little bit more to do but the historical aspects and the architecture is gorgeous.
Sue Kim
Seriously one of the most charming places I visited in Seattle. Cocktails were well made and the bar was cozy. Although you can see Seattle from many different spots, the overall experience with the historical self guided tour to the charming bar to the 360 degree views - a memorable place we thought!
Lina Skrz
Great views all around, and much cheaper than the surrounding observation decks. Has a speakeasy style bar in the evening, but that was a little on the pretentious side.
Mike LoBue
I am hesitant to talk aboit this place because I feel like it was one of the coolest spots during our visit but it was not over crowded! This was talked about after our Underground Tour and it did not disappoint. The views were stunning. The bar on the observation floor was top notch.
Ashley Brown Pollard
This was an expensive venture after the cost for the 2 of us to go up to the observatory & bar, and then to order drinks. I will say that the view is outstanding and the old fashioned that I ordered was phenomenal, would have appreciated some kind of discount for going up if you spend big $$ in the bar.
Patti Amundson
Beautiful historic building offers a self guided tour on the way up to the observation deck on the 35th floor. You can walk all the way around the building for a panoramic view of downtown at the end opposite of the Space Needle. The tour is good for kids: lots of old-time office equipment like switchboards they can get their hands on. The bar at the top has tasty craft cocktails and food.
Richard Brooks
It was a great bar with an amazing view. The entry price was a quite a lot if you are going for drinks.
Jacob Phelps (JdawgIII)
This is a great building with history, character, and AMAZING views! I was able to see the Olympic Peninsula, Mt. Rainier, Cascades, the Space Needle, and many other amazing buildings and places. There is also a restaurant at the top of the tower. There you can enjoy a wonderful view eating delicious food. Not only that, but you are sitting in a building from the early 1900s. I almost forgot to mention how incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming all of the staff are! I would definitely recommend Smith Tower as a place to visit on your Bucket List. Check it out because it will definitely be worth your while.
Ross Diaz
Not your ordinary tourist destination in Seattle! Great for history and design enthusiasts, lounge-heads looking for great mixology, and anyone who enjoys a unique view. The museum part of the tour is well thought out and gets visitors engaged by having them assume the persona of one of the local historical figures whose stories are wrapped up in the tower. Unfortunately the museum closes early at 7pm. In the summer, sunset is around 8:45pm. If you want to see the museum and also be upstairs at the observatory during the magic hour, then do what we did on our date night and visit the museum first and get your elevator time-slot reservation. Then go have dinner and come back in through the main doors in perfect time to ride straight up to the Temperance Lounge in the observatory.
Most visitors will come here for the view and the photo opportunities. This is a relatively new operation, and right now they are focusing on repairing the elevators (top priority). Hoping they will eventually be able to do an update on the observatory cage with clear plexiglass like the Space needle or Rockefeller Center in NY. The cage around the observatory catwalk makes it difficult to take pictures, but you can do it by slipping your mobile phone in between the bars (though it is very easy to imagine losing your grip and watching your phone plummet down 35 stories and probably kill someone....likelihood of this happening increases greatly after visiting the Temperance bar).
The observatory lounge serves terrific drinks at a reasonable (for a tourist spot in downtown Seattle) price and with great service. I had the Newcomer (because I am one) - it was fantastic and very alcohol-forward drink composed of single-malt scotch with citrus. I finished off with mezcal-based Pioneer but wish I had stayed with the Newcomer. The Pioneer was a good drink, but will immediately overpower everything you ate or drank that night, mezcal smokiness sticks to you all night like the black residue at the bottom of an ash tray.
All in all a terrific and unique experience!
Arron Sullivan
Great views and interactive exhibits.
Lareina Bellecour
A must! Service at the top is perfection. (shoutout to Adam!)
Just do it -you wont regret it if you like a view and a drink. Entry $10 between 4-6pm. Screen printed T’s $15 Includes: the marble, the brass & the roaring 20’s.
Happy hour $9. It is just a must and plus the atmosphere is amazing.
330MudPirates
Very nice spot to look over the town. With a bar at the top. Nice view. Make sure it's a clear day to see the best view. Sends you on a historical scavenger hunt!
Charles Stewart
Awesome views from the 35th floor. Happy hour specials on drinks, appetizers, and elevator ride up. They do offer Veteran and locals discount prices with ID.
Kevin Hines
I've been trying to convince my wife to check this out and she finally caved and LOVED it. There is so much history to learn about with this building and they did a great job tieing in the modern with the history. Great views of downtown with a perfect view of the Space Needle at a much better price. Great little gift shop in the lobby and a nice, relaxing area on the observatory level to get a drink and some food to enjoy the views.
Patty B
Worth going to! Views, then go inside for a drink while watching the city lights come on. Take advantage of Happy Hour prices, & get to see the view in daylight and darkness.
Lauren
Price is cheaper than the space Needle and views are just as good (and you can have the space Needle in your photos). Cute speak easy type bar at the top with food. Service at the restaurant/bar was not great, but food and drinks were good so all in all a good experience. If service had been better I would have given it 5 stars.

Great prohibition era speakeasy vibe. Take a tour of the balcony to see all of Seattle and order a Manhattan to really feel like you've stepped back in time. Elevator has an operator dressed in 1930's attire that will drop some knowledge on you about the building. Ours was pretty funny as well, making jokes on the ride up. I can't recall what we paid to go up, but it wasn't much different than what the space needle cost.
Space is limited at the bar due to the fire code, so expect to have a wait to get up and back down, but that also means you can find a seat easily. We didn't try any of the food, but it looked good from where we were sitting.
Really though just go for the view and the vibe. The lobby also has a bunch of facts about the building if you want to tour around it and read everything.
Into The Unboxing
I loved this building. It's like a time machine. It's so beautiful and even the workers uniform is adorable. I went during happy hour which is from 4pm-6pm and tickets were only $8. Go! You won't regret it.
Rachel Ewell
One of the things I enjoyed most during my Seattle visit! The tour is super cute and informational but the building itself is worth the price of admission - stunning Art Deco style and amazing views.
Plan on having a cocktail or two at the top - just spectacular!
FaLana Ruffin
Great place to visit to catch in the beautiful views of Seattle. Being a new resident, it was a breathtaking experience. Our tickets were affordable and easy to get. Personally can't wait to visit again and enjoy the experience again😁 …
Chester Kong
$19 bucks for a small interactive history tour and elevator ride up. Cheaper than the space needle, some cool views. Speak easy bar at the top for drinks and food.
S Smith
Amazing views and delicious drinks! Pretty expensive but its worth it for the experience. You are able to go outside and have 360 degree view of Seattle!
John Shearer
This building secretly owned by an individual but listed as a corporate entity professionally managed by a top-notch real estate management company professional team.
Terra-cotta exterior could never be replaced.
Lobby made of exquisite materials such as stone and copper and terra-cotta.
Chinese room can be reserved for private events very cool bar
Tina Truong
I had a wonderful experience here. Perhaps the weather was a huge factor to our visit too. We caught the sunset (which I would recommend going during the golden hours) and this place doesn’t have a touristy vibe. People sit, eat, and chat. You can step outside to see the view. There is a bar cage so might not be the best place for selfies. Overall, I love the vibe. Also, the elevator up was a cool experience. Old feel!
Kris Schrum
Great building. It's updated but seems original but well maintained in a lot of aspects of the building. Great views of the sound, security at the entrance is always friendly.
Ruthie Kataoka
We LOVE Smith Tower! It's such a fun place to go for drinks, appetizers or dinner. You get to learn about the bootlegging history of Seattle and the history of the building. It has a lot of its original features including a historic elevator. The halls and stairways are beautiful as you walk through the self guided tour before you end up at the elevator. The have events for New Years/Valentines day and I can't even imagine how beautiful that is! I highly, highly recommend coming here whether you live here or are from out of town. There is a great view Seattle bc you can walk around the outside of the building and take pictures. I'm afraid of heights so I mostly just take pictures from inside or just right outside the door where I can jump back inside the second I start freaking out. Coming here is one of my favorite things to do in the city.
Bryan Hernandez-Nieves
The view is amazing, it was a great experience. I’m definitely going to come here again.
Kyle Smetanka
The rating is a 3 because the views from the observation deck were incredible even on a cloudy day and the check in process and historical section leading up to the top was great. The negative was unfortunately service. We came in sat down, got our drinks quickly (which were great), and then well, I wouldn’t be surprised if our waiter still hasn’t realized we left. We wanted another round and a snack, but after watching him check in with three other tables and skip us and not come back to the table again (after checking in very shortly after getting our drinks) - we made eye contact with another waiter who helped us close our tab and go eat and drink elsewhere. Happy we went, but admittedly probably will not be back based on this experience. Highly recommend for everyone to go - just hopefully you’ll have better service.
J P
Very cool observation desk. Quick opportunity to learn some history. The lounge at the top at the observation deck looked nice. The vies from the observation deck is stellar.
Erica Harmon
Classic. Gorgeous interior with a silly, fun walkthrough theme. Observatory is beautiful, cozy, friendly staff. Worth the visit and half the cost of the Space Needle.
Gerry “Javi” Barillas
Amazing views, the ambiance on the 35th floor is amazing and the elevator up is extremely stunning and very 1920/30s feeling
Therese Marcel
So much fun. The elevator is old. The building is so nice. It takes you back in time. The views are fantastic and the roof top bar is alot of fun!
Eric Bryant
So much history, and the education displays are very well done. Excellent views from a different perspective. Enjoy a very tasty drink from the bar. Food options looked good.
John MacDougall
Just a cool place. The wait staff is really knowledgeable of the history of the building and the local area. It is spendy to get in but I is totally worth it. Nice to have some beers/wine/cocktails and get some good views in.
Karenna Osgatharp
I couldn't have asked for a better visit. Originally just was looking for a Speakeasy bar for a friend's birthday only to end up with an immersing historical experience. Once we arrived at the bar we had the absolute sweetest waitress we ever met. She suggested drinks perfect for both of us and had the highest standard of customer service I ever experienced. You would be missing out on an absolutely perfect experience as a prohibition fan if you do not visit at least once
Gabriel Oseguera
Great experience not only for out of town visitors, but it is an appealing option for Seattleleites to go have a drink and relax with excellent city views and tasty artesan drinks and quick bites for the hungry, good place to socialize.
Veronika Taylor
Seattle's Empire State Building! :)
Awesome story of the building, you can feel the spirit of 1910s in every piece. And elevator with doorman! The view is outstanding, I had a lot of fun.
Dorin Jannotta
Very cool exhibit which not only has great views of the city but also takes you back to the 1920s when the tower was first opened. The lounge that is surrounded the observation deck has fantastic cocktails and fresh squeezed lemonade.
Darnell Kebo
You really step back in time once you board those elevators. Such a great time going through the exhibits and spending time up top enjoying delicious cocktails. Looking forward to going back.
Rupin Talreja
The Observation Bar and the viewpoint is one of the best spots, this is as good if not better than the Space Needle and away from the tourist crowd. A true Seattle hidden gem.
Kelli Johannessen
Better views than the Columbia tower. I absolutely loved the views of the Puget Sound from the bar and the balcony at the top. What I didn't expect was the self guided tour through the history of the building - mostly focused on the 20s. The bar has a great selection of drinks. Service was more on the casual side when we went, so make sure you have time to truly sit down and enjoy a drink if you plan on partaking in libations.
Michael U
This is such an historic place. I can't believe how long I lived here in Seattle without ever having visited. When built (opened in 1914) it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi and remained so until 1931, and was the tallest building on the west coast until the Space Needle was built.
The bar at the top observatory level used to be called The Chinese Room, that changed just a couple of years ago. The reason it was called that was not only because the motif was Chinese, but it was actually furnished by the last Empress of China, Cixi.
The building was in foreclosure and the county assessed it as being worth less than half of its $40+mil mortgage and was sold at public auction in 2012.
It reopened about a year ago and the bar at the top and the observation deck are so with the price of admission. Highly recommended.
Erika Bataran
We loved this place. Fun exhibition of olden days on your way up to the view. Snacks were just ok but drinks were lovely.
Diane Yi
Interesting place. If your company is only 2 .it will be faster to be entered but if more that 3 ppl, You might have to wait pretty longer than like 40 minutes or more.. for weekend. Entering ticket Each person was more than $27 (i didn't pay so donno exactly )The guy at the front will explain about the history of this building and go 2nd floor . One of girl who stands grint if elevator will explain again about the history of elevator which has been almost 100 yrs. Not available taking a picture when ppl (not ur company)were inside elevator.
The view at the top which outside of restaurant was amazing . You can Walk around whole side . (Better to go the time Sunset ) . Get a table for drink and food.
Drink was okay . But The food wasn't great .btw there is not many choice of food.
Jones Gordon
Great stop that has a wonderful view. I really enjoyed the storytelling of the past and the present. I missed seeing the mountain on the rainy day, but the view is still great.
Rob Belle
Historic and fantastic views of Seattle!
Great new historic mini-museum downstairs before you go up the glass elevator and arrive in the Chinese Room and observation deck! Stay for a festive drink at the Prohibition Bar and watch eagles and airplanes flying outside.
Brandi F
I was seriously impressed! I have been to the Columbia Tower and the Space Needle and thought for sure the Smith Tower wouldn't be that great by comparison, but I was wrong!
Scott Macy
Enjoyed the view and the happy hour and the ambiance! Great Seattle destination.
Ferol Morales
Very nice place to park for the lumen field. Literally a straight shot to the games.
My answers to this is for the PARKING ONLY. thank you.
Ardi Tooki
Really beautiful tower. Really historic and amazing. However the pioneer square neighborhood is a sketchy neighborhood and takes away your experience.
Ann Boehm
The $20.00 admission fee kept us from taking the elevator ride up- even the walking floor level exhibit was off limits without admission. Reading the signage and historical plate will have to suffice. The building is well preserved and close to Pioneer Square.
star delucca
Smith tower is an experience though a bit overpriced especially if you are going to eat and drink up there. If you commit to eating and drinking they really should discount the ride up. The view was spectacular. It was probably the best view you can get of the sunset in Seattle. The service when you buy the ticket friendly and hysterical. The service in the restaurant ok, a bit uptight. We had a few drinks and some food. Like I said quite a bit overpriced. The Appolonia was delicious while the Leschi Lychee tastes like lighter fluid. Husband had the Gojira Old Fashioned and loved it. The pork potstickers were on the money! We wished we had ordered double. They were delicious. On the other hand the Thai Shrimp Noodles were TERRIBLE.The noodles were way undercooked and the dish had ZERO flavor. It was a disappointment to say the least. We did enjoy our time up there watching the sunset so I don't want to discount the experience but its a one and done for us
Catherine King
I think that Smith Tower is an absolute must visit for anyone going to Seattle. It wasn't crowded at all and the views it offered were quite wonderful. After walking around the observation deck, we were able to enjoy a glass of wine which was such a lovely way to top off the evening.
Bennett Cowie
A great landmark in Seattle and an epic old-school bar at the top. Well worth the cost of admission. Art deco style throughout the building, particularly the lobby area, and can't beat the views and drinks up top. Really fun to walk around the observation deck too. Had great drinks including the best Irish coffee i've ever tasted. Go here!!
H
I loved the Smith Tower. Historical, amazing sunsets over the city and a nice place to grab some food or drinks with friends whilst overlooking and being in the heart of Seattle.
Aaron Johnson
My interaction with staff working at the Smith Tower was amazing. Everyone there was kind and seemed happy to be there. Dealing with happy people is contagious!
Daniel Warner
Cocktails were good! Service was slow because they had two people for the whole bar. We ordered snack food, never came. Ordered a second round of drinks, and pop corn. Drinks came, but they were out of pop corn? Like, how do you run out of pop corn? The server redeemed himself by bringing some chips. Views were amazing! I will be back but plan to eat before or after
jason hanor
Great history with a self guided tour. Amazing views of downtown Seattle and Mt. Rainier when the skies are clear. Have a drink and enjoy the view on the observation deck.
Chris Lopez
Great historic building. Lots of information and beautiful views. If you make the sunset over the Olympic mountains is a sight!
Jeff Mullins
Cool place to see some history of Settle. Great views of the city. The staff wasn't very friendly.
Priyanka Singh
Beautiful views of Seattle from the observatory. Enjoyed every moment spent in the building. Gorgeous interiors once you enter. There is a short video that shows the history of the building. I left refreshed spending time gazing the amazing views.
Dan Linthicum
Amazing food. More amazing drinks. And even better views, history, and service! A+++
Gemma Dutton
Happy with our decision to go up Smith Tower rather than Space Needle or the other huge tower in Seattle. This place has an interesting back story which is shown in a museum exhibition on the ground level. The elevator is still the original, manual operation (for now). Sweet 360 views of the city.
Mosaic Mirage
I went here with a friend of mine for the first time. What a great experience ! The stairs and walls were made out of either marble or granite. The rules were made out of Spanish tile. The elivator was copper. What a beautfuo site to see. We ended up exploring off the grid and went into doorways that were left unlocked by staff and explored some more which was terrifying but still fun. The top was filled with hand carved wooden sculptures. The ceiling was hand carved as well. Each piece of art was different. The panoramic balcony view was breath taking. Worth the trip. Worth the money.
Andrew Niedziela
Great value, incredible history, very intriguing, engaging, and fun! Would visit again for a beautiful lunch view.
Paul Roberts
Interesting, but a little boring walking through the exhibit downstairs. The evevator operator was funny and a little weird. Be ready for some bad jokes. Must go up to the bar, checkout the view and have a specialty drink to get the full experience. You can get a free picture taken up there (sent to your personal email address).
Olypen Guy
Great little self guided tour. Love the style of the whole tower. So much history here.
Jessica Kimsey
This was a great experience for me. I did it myself so no guided tour but was able to take my time and go through all of the history of the building. Was able to do it once during the day and once at night to get amazing views
Ashton Campbell
A Seattle fave! Great cocktails, great views, excellent staff.
Jenny Gerstorff
Was once the best view in the city, but recent construction has obscured the view of the space needle on the horizon.
Food is mediocre (except the deviled eggs which are the best).
Drinks are classy, with a great sazerac.
Elevator attendants vary, but if you get the right guy then you’ll get what seems like a whole history class within 90 seconds, including at least a few laughs along the way. New facts every time I visit!
Touring the historical museum is very interesting - if you have any interest in WWII era, ask the staff about veteran signatures above the observation deck.
We love it so much we got married in the elevator on our way to the bar one afternoon and it was perfect.
Traci Crum
Cool to see the history of the building and a lot of the old character. Views are beautiful. Felt a bit out of place in the observatory with everyone dressed super nice.
Kathryn Cullum
A great way to learn some more Seattle history while also enjoying amazing views. The interactive displays were clever and informative.
Josanne Howard
I wasn't expecting the rich history and interactive play. It was much welcomed. Wonderful but pricy bar at the top with gorgeous views.
Mishka Liamkin
Very interesting building with good history. Staff is friendly, and I especially liked the elevator man, very punny guy. Views from the top are great and you can see a full 360 view. There are restrooms and a restaurant on top. Tickets are 19 bucks an adultand 15 bucks a student.
Highly recommend.
jeffrey price (SebRex13)
Super cool hidden treasure of Seattle. Became a Rum Runner in 2019 and go here at least once a month now. Ask downstairs about Run Runners. So worth the money. Great bar, great food, awesome staff, and amazing views. Remember to tip the elevator operator!
Neha Sarraf
I visited this place for my friends bday. We ordered cocktails , green tea dessert and hummus and vegetables. Out of all these one cocktail , I don’t remember the exact name but here is the description- mezcal with orange and it was smoky and spicy, it was AWESOME. As a supertaster I loved that drink and that green tea dessert.
Ben Lefor
Wonderful view and a great experience for locals and tourists alike. The bar at the observation deck also has great cocktails.
Morice Martinez
Sad I did not come up here a long time ago. Everything from the elevator ride up to the bar to the views are like nothing else Seattle has to offer. Perfect view of the space needle amongst everything else from this view.
Erika Glunz
Amazing views, architecture, and staff! The drinks are a little pricey but worth every penny!!
Matt Fuhr
Great place for a drink and a view. We had no idea they had a restaurant as well. They didn't have a menu on their website anywhere otherwise we would've gotten dinner as well.
Jason Kline
One of the best “touristy” that is also fun as a local in my opinion. The drinks and ticket up are obviously a bit pricier than down on earth, but the views and the atmosphere are worth it. Especially on a clear day. Great spot to grab a Happy Hour drink before the sun goes down, plenty of tasty spots to grab dinner at afterwards within a short walk.
Aaron
Cool place to have a drink and get an awesome view of Seattle. Less crowded than the Space needle, and a much better deal. Be sure to check out the well preserved oriental ceiling tile work too.
Gary Marschall
Great venue, go at night! Such a cool vibe with drink menu that brings you back in time. The decor, the elevator ride up, everything takes you back. Then the walk around the top with views in all directions, so worth it. Another place to reserve your spot ahead. If not plan to wait about 30 minutes. So good!
Shane
Good vantage to see the area. Bar does not open until 3pm.
Norman Tweet
The Smith Tower experience is two-fold: first, the building itself. Smith Tower is 38 stories and dates all the way back to 1914. This was an exceptionally tall building for its time, and it wasn't until the 60's that other skyscrapers in Seattle began surpassing it in height. Even now, the observation deck (which goes 360 degrees around, and is close to the tip) gives you a commanding view of every direction except towards downtown. But before you go up there, be sure to take a look at the exhibits on the lower levels, which give you a great historical background of the building's earlier days. Finally, this is a very rare example of a building that uses the historic Otis elevators. The elevator recently was automated, so it no longer need an operator. but it's still fun to ride.
Secondly, there is a bar at the top level (same floor as the observation deck. It's a fun place; the bartenders are friendly and helpful. Plus the views are probably better than any other establishment in Seattle.
All in all, I think it's well worth visiting Smith Tower at least once. Maybe more if you enjoy the bar!
Darlene McCleary
Great place to see, Would have eaten a meal in the top floor, but we had already eaten. Beautiful views
Gastón Villamea
Very nice view of the city, and gorgeous building
RC Brown
Smith tower was a fantastic experience even for a local. The views out of the tower are breathtaking and the food and drink service was top notch. The history at the bottom of the tower was really interesting and provided lots of opportunities to interact and learn about Seattle's early history and the Smith Tower's influence on the west coast. The Asian themed bar and restaurant offered a plethora of options for food and drinks that were not specific to Asian cuisine so don't worry if that isn't your cup of tea. The only downside is the caging on the outside walkway doesn't cover you from any rain so be prepared if you venture outdoors.
Dan
We stopped in for a few adult beverages. We were greeted by a friendly host on the first floor that gave us some exciting things to look through in the museum before we took an exciting elevator ride to the bar and viewing are. The elevator was super fast and styled in an in correct timeframe for the building.
Once we got to the top our new host encouraged us to step outside to the fully enclosed viewing platforms. We took our time taking in the sighs and views of Seattle.
We were also fortunate to be on time for Happy Hour. We indulged in a few tasty cocktails at a nice happy hour price.
I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area!
Jenelle Reynaga
This place was definitely something I am glad I got to experience. The view was amazing, the hallway to the elevator was fun little history lesson about different people, all and all its something I would encourage people to do at least once. Bring a camera.
Louis Duran
It shouldn't cost $57 for 3 people to go up an elevator. The history and such is interesting and the view is great but when we got to the top after about 5 minutes it began to hail and thunder and didn't seem that pleasant. Drinks are expensive at 36 stories not sure why so much more than at ground level but they are. Been there done that. Probably not again.
Jason Gruenwald
Great bar, fantastic employees, decent food, amazing view. Don't go!!! I don't want my gem getting blown out.
Scott Simerson
A bit pricey but worth it for the view and the old school decor! Super friendly and helpful wait staff, good food.
Megan Kraus
You cant buy tickets in advance so you'll have to get there and buy tickets right there. Overall, it was an awesome experience!
Elizabeth Evans
I hadn't by to the Tower in years and the new self guided tour was fun and the atmosphere at the bar was very nice. The service was excellent too
Darius Weaver
Entrance fee is overpriced, but the history and beauty within the tower is why it gets 4 stars from me. I had a couple drinks at the bar on the 35th floor and they were pretty good. I recommend the newcomer and the Smith Tower Sazarac
Kelli Oswalt
The displays on the way up were interesting and the elevator operator was funny, he definitely added to the experience. Enjoying the view at the top with a few delicious drinks was great, and it's cool to walk around the top outside to really take in the sights.
Michael Foley
Great views from the bar upstairs! Very friendly staff and tasty food and drinks. Prices are a little steep, but a fun place to check out! Good stop if you have friends or family visiting from out of town.
amanda mays
Loved this place. It was a great experience , the staff was fun. The restaurant is also amazing, loved the staff they were so wonderful!
Rae Roving
A beautiful classic with a twice or fancy speakesy bar with a wrap around open air deck that has an amazing view of the entire seattle
Ryan Sagare
Space Needle? What Space Needle? I can't believe I haven't been to the Smith Tower before. This place has rich history, amazing views, and a cool bar scene. This is a can't miss stop in Seattle! I will be coming back...this is for sure!
Would be a fun place to take a date or friends visiting the city!!!
Ian Rieger
A little kitschy, but the observation deck and bar was great. Nice cocktails and an amazing view of downtown Seattle. We had light bites which were good, but they were served on paper plates.
Dan Young
Amazing view! Love the slice of Seattle history. You can enjoy wine, food and the view at the top. Views are worth it.
ML PC
I would recommend to watch the nght view or even the day view here instead in the Space shuttle. The price is cheaper than the Shuttle, plus you get to experience to ride the old fashioned elevators and free picture.
Zack Horvath
This is one of our favorite spots for happy hour. There is a discount for WA residents, but if you're here all the time the pass makes the most sense. The appetizers are great on the HH menu, and the cocktails rival the best places in town.
Scott Abendroth
Great location to see old Seattle, Ferryboats . You have to visit when in Seattle.
Vašek Štefela
It was recommend to me and I was happy. The view is amazing and the building has its history. I was charmed by staff at the entrance. They were gorgious. :-) thank you for this place.
Jack Francis
Really enjoyed visiting Smith Tower, it was fantastically put together with a prohibition/early 1900s theme throughout the experience. The bar at the top was very impressive with amazing views and equally impressive drinks. Enjoyed Smith Tower more than the space needle.
John Baglioni
As a skyscraper enthusiast, it was awesome to see the oldest skyscraper in Seattle, and one of the tallest outside of NYC when it was completed.
Georgin Mathew
Great view of city from hope floor. U can even see the space needle from here. Less crowded and great view of every landmarks. Highly recommended, make sure to carry your AAA card, u will get a discount
chichi gates
Pls. refer to my review of The Observatory Smith Tower.
Aida McQuien
This is a beautiful historic building. The observation deck is not just a spectator location it is a work of art that should be experienced. Go there, have lunch and a drink.
Little Byte
I went here for a fundraiser activity and fell in love. The cocktails are some of the most delicious I've had. Also, you CAN NOT beat this view. You feel like a million bucks snacking and drinking up here. They have a walkway all around the outside to really get a good look at the city. Furthermore, you get to ride an old fashioned elevator (bell hop included) on your way up to the top. This is now a spot I will take out of town visitors! A must see!
Jamie Sedlmayer
Great view. So much neat history with easy to read info on the building. Groupon really made it worth it! #seattlemustsee
Suzanne C
Been wanting to visit for years and the venue and service and food selections and views were exactly as promised! Can't wait to return
Serena T.
Haunted building & extremely old !!! The top floor has a Asian restaurant we drank and ended the 360 views
Craig Jones
Excellent views and cocktails at the bar up too. A must visit Seattle destination.
Adam Hagen
Great history of the building. Menu in the restaurant is very limited.
Gregg Allen
That was a great experience! I loved the musuem. Drinks were great and the views are second to few!
Gregory Smith
The tour and the tower are a must see (pics from the top of the tower). Bar is a great place to sit on a rainy day, have a cocktail and take in the view.
Charles J
I've been lucky enough to get to the 34th floor a couple of times now, each time they have provided impeccable service and care. Their menu is small but we'll curated and includes veg/vegan options, their mixed drinks are well crafted, and the views will always entice me to come back.
Cara Delozier
We were charmed by the old-school elevator operator and sweeping views of vintage and new Seattle. Price is a little steep sans-Groupon, however.
John Lucas
Go 42 floors up to a scenic view of downtown. Restrooms aren't on ground floor. If you are looking for one on ground level, try Irish pud down the street
Martin Burdette
$14-$19 just to get up to the bar. Specialty yuzu old fashioned tastes like a normal old fashioned and costs as much as the admission. Only gets 3 stars because of the view!
Francisco Valenzuela
Paid to go up to the observation deck and it is a bar, so you also have to pay more if you want to be seating at the deck. It makes no sense, the price should include a complimentary drink or dessert, or remove the price to go up and raise the prices in the menu. It is a nice bar but I don't think I would go back up.
Bobz Illa
The building is beautiful and the little walk through history before going to the top is nice. While definitely pricey, the drinks and food are delicious and worth it imo. The service is great and the views are amazing. I'm beyond happy that we stopped here on our short trip to Seattle.
Jennifer Blevins
Excellent view, would make a wonderful place for a date!
Anthony Andrade
Very nice roaring 20’s style bar and building. There is a pretty small exhibit that tells you the story and history of the building and Seattle. It ends with a really cool elevator ride up to the 35th floor. The bar/restaurant area was a very nice roaring 20’s style with awesome 20’s jazz style covers of popular songs. The drinks were what you’d expect as far as quality and price from a upscale bar. The food was amazing! My fiancé and I had the soup of the day: butternut squash coconut curry with a 3 cheese grilled cheese. If it’s still there when you visit this combination is a MUST TRY. Recommended by our server. The pork pot stickers were also really good. The flatbread was a miss for us but still overall very good quality food. The observation deck surrounds the bar/restaurant seating and has beautiful views of the city. Definitely a must visit in the evening.
Lindsay Johnson
My husband and I came here for some drinks on our anniversary. The entire experience was wonderful. Everyone we talked to was very nice and knowledgeable, the drinks were delicious, and the menu has a really good range for costs. I didn't get any pictures of the view, but it's definitely worth it, even if you're afraid of heights. We ordered our drinks and then took a lap around outside while we waited for them to arrive.
Drinks pictured are the Pride Paloma and the Agave Traditions flight.
antoine rondenet
Awesome view, but the elevator to the top, was being serviced when I went, so, you have to climb three floors with the stairs.
Berkeley Le
Beautiful view of the city, rivals the space needle! Definitely give this place a visit!
David Kneedy
Great place to take visitors on a nice day.
Jenne Holmes
This was one of those should I or should I not type of things. I'm so glad I bothered. The views from the observatory were stunning and pretty much unobstructed. The view of Mount Rainer was similar amazing and while it's not a cheap ride, the elevators are Otis and so you know you're travelling in style.
Even for this solo traveler who does not like heights, this is one tower I am glad I decided to ride up. Stepping out onto the small observation deck was breathtaking but I still felt safe.
If you're in Seattle and the space needle is busy or you simply want a different view, the smith tower comes highly recommended. Well played Mr Smith. Well played!
Deb Correia
What an amazing place! We attended a wedding here, and it was spectacular! Great food, beautiful views of the entire city. We'll be back!
Trevor Anderson
Amazing views, the introductory tour is super neat and interactive. Views at the top were amazing, definitely order the whiskey flight and potstickers. Props to Donny for the extra facts!
Christopher Horton
Terrifying if you are afraid of heights but an amazing experience. The elevators alone are interesting enough to make the visit worthwile.
Mary Wood
Very happy we got to visit the tower. We only did the bar and restaurant part.35 floor. Get there early. Table's fill fast. Then its a late system. We waited 45 minutes. Went for a wine tasting just down the road. Other people coming in later were a 2 hour wait. Now the views were amazing. Drinks were lovely. And we had cheese/meat board
Yummy. Highly recommend 👌
Brandon Olander
One of the most iconic views in Seattle. With a cocktail bar on the top to enjoy.
oisin breathnach
A must see for any tourist to Seattle, lovely staff great views try to go at sunset.
Mike E
Bad ass mystery spot of Seattle. And there's cool bar at the top! A piece of American history.
jimbo jankens
I enjoyed this more than i expected to. It seemed like an arbitrary piece of history but when you start reading and looking at the sets they have displayed you become emersed in it. The bar in top was also very good with very welcoming workers. The view from the top was worth it alone so it was a good cherry on too. The only wish i have is that the historic walkthrough had more to see but even as is, im glad that i decided to go.
Ashley Folkestad
Great place. Unfortunately, the smoke obscured the view. Great cocktails and ok food. They offer a AAA member discount on tickets.
Sven Johnson
Nostalgia meets real world. Drinks were savory (I had an Old Fashioned)!
Aleasha Barnes
Got at happy hour, its leas them half price. Its worth $8. Not really worth $20. But worth doing and seeing :)
violeta ionita
It's a must in Seattle
Cynthia Lepore
Very cool place to see, even if you're a local. The architecture, the view, the bar upstairs. Hope to visit again during live music nights!
Lucas Magnatta
Bar on top of the tower serves great drinks. Beautiful view of the city. Cant go wrong.
Kristi Dmitrieva
Pretty cool place, nice view + little tour. It was romantic. A lot of bars though, so made it look like a cell.
Hula Geisha
This is the best place that I've ever owned in office before. The elevators are all up to date and very nice. Security is exceptional yet overzealous. And there's a little Restaurant and bar downstairs as well as at the top in the observatory.
Ness Smith
Very historic place, had an amazing experience and would love to even go back. Very friendly stuff as well. The place it self is gorgeous!
Marisa Smolka
Delicious drinks... amazing view. Definitely a new go to for when guests are in from out of town!
Brian M
Fantastic little tour through the history of Seattle's first skyscraper. The observation deck and restaurant give you a beautiful view of Seattle and the surrounding area.
Aryn
Awesome decent view! Ticket price plus food is a little much and there are alternatives that are more delicious around and places with a better view but it has a pretty alright view and decent + food plus a cool elevator so for the price I'd say it's pretty decent!
Katrina Hayes
Incredible view, fantastic staff, delicious food and drinks. I will be back!
Felicia Murrell
It was too foggy to see a lot, but great view of the stadium and other sites from the top.
Roy Johnson
Half the price to the top than the Space Needle. Then a nice view and good cocktails. Nothing stood out on the menu, but I did not try anything.
Chris M
I was up on the 14th floor today with Regus. Very nice young lady up there nice meeting you thank you for all your help today. Oh and the security lady at the front desk was very nice and very helpful with directions to which elevator LOL. Thank you again for making my experience easy Seattle is not always the most easiest place to navigate
Chris Wall
Epic part of history here. Grat veiws with cheat cards telling you what you were looking at under it.
Cierstynn Welcher
If you chose to do the interactive portion and answer questions in the pamphlet be sure to tell a employee by the time you get to the top!
Kevin Morris (Borris)
Really cool place to get a great 360° view of Seattle. The history of the building was really great to hear as well. Kinda a steep price to just ride up there, but great drinks and snacks while enjoying views
Emily Monroe
The Smith Tower Observatory Deck and Bar were absolutely amazing! The staff was phenomenal and the food and drinks were excellent. We had The Lyman pizza, Yesler Old Fashion, Pride Paloma and PSL Martini! I'm not a coffee fan but the PSL Martini was still great. The decor and ambience is incredible, I wish we could've stayed all night to view the sunset!
Jonathon Dyer
Best views in Seattle. Great craft cocktails.
Fred Thomas
This is a must see for both locals and tourists alike. Fabulous early twentieth century marble, wood and brass architecture including the awesome elevators complete with operator. Nice little museum like displays on the lower floors. The viewing deck is spectacular and the food is good. Around $10+ a plate and drinks start around $8. Fun Seattle history spot.
Danita Day
Fun place to take company for views and drinks. They also serve food.
Jacob
Great place for drinks and appetizers. The views are amazing. It has a nice elevator ride up to the bar which is historic and very interesting. The only drawback is the homeless camp near the building. It's not attractive at all and not safe. Stay north of the tower and you'll be fine.
Daniel Vazquez
Felt overpriced, the tower is not particularly tall, and there's not much to see inside it, from the historic perspective. Columbia tower offers a much better view.
Suprada Chethan
Unfortunately we couldn't go inside as they were closed on Mondays. But from outside the building looked pretty good. Something like this.
Thomas Rubatino
Such a cool place to check out! The elevator guy, Dick, is awesome! It's a great place to hang out and enjoy the view of Seattle.
joshua iszler
Dick the tour guide made this a night to remember so many fun fact and the the view with a tasty cocktail!
Alexander Nikolaus
They recently reopened and it's gorgeous! Definitely worth the visit!
Google User
It was awesome beautiful view just to cold of course but other than that it was amazing!!!
Nicole Esche
Really great veiws, beautiful bar area in a really cool historical building
Juan de la Cal
At the first glance it seems is just an old fashion waste of time, but everyboy deserves to discover the history behind and the landscape around this beautiful tower
Kylie Starkenburg
I checked out the bar and the views were amazing. The drinks were tasty, too. A very cozy historical feel to it and the service was friendly. I went alone( but will probably bring a friend next time.)
Christopher Jones
Very nice for an easy in city vacation visit:-). Nice views, small but nice museum history of the building. Very limited food menu due to fire regulations. Good drinks, shoot for happy hour,
Ravyn Williams
It was a slow Sunday, but we had an amazing experience!
Andrew Carroll
My #1 pick for best “tourist” activity in Seattle...and I mean tourist lightly...because there are so many people local to Seattle that don’t know you can go up to the top of the Smith Tower. Every time I have gone to the top of the tower it has always been a memorable fun experience, the bar always makes great drinks and the food is wonderful too!
10/10 stop by if you can!
Jehú Torres
It has a nice observatory at the top level and it's currently open to the public (7/24/2020).
Timothy Chase
Smith Tower offers the best view of downtown Seattle. On the observation deck you can walk all the way around and see in all directions, look out over Elliot Bay, or look North and Northeast towards the heart of downtown. You are not so far yup that all you see are the roofs of other buildings but at just the right height too appreciate the nearby skyscrapers.
Shawn McMahon
The bar and atmosphere was fantastic. A real hidden gem. Adam the bartender was fantastic and very accommodating.
Royce Hamel
The view is absolutely stunning, but the bar and food service is slow. Not sure if it was because it was Tuesday at 5:00pm, but it is very loud in the Chinese Room. Food was pretty good, if a little pricey. Drinks are expensive, but delicious. Also the price of tickets to the Smith Tower itself are expensive, but the interactive bits of the tower are a lot of fun, and there is a lot of cool history in this building.
However, get photos. Beautiful room and even better view from the Chinese Room.
Tamella H
Location requires it's price. Food was fine so were drinks
Jacob
The Smith Tower is a wonderful idea for a day trip, there's restaurants around that are delicious, different ethnic foods, the Smith Tower was amazing, the experience of being really High up is weird, an odd feeling. Lot's of fun, the kids will love it. Enjoy 🌴 …
Ian Payne
Great view from the top. The elevator is a work of art. However, the restaurant at the top is mediocre. Not much in the way of choices and if you want a cocktail you'll need a second mortgage plus they are pushing the whiskey based cocktails. Go for the view and you won't be disappointed
Farana Sadiq-Khan
Road trip In USA..was visiting from New Zealand..friendly staff and neat clean environment. Pleasant stay .
Stephen Hentges
I had always wanted to visit this iconic skyscraper. We stopped by for the view but we were blown away by the experience. The building has been beautifully maintained and restored; you truly feel as if you are stepping into the past. The displays are well done and very interesting with a marvelous personal touch. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable especially the elevator operator! Our visit to the Smith Tower was one of the highlights of our trip to Seattle.
Krista Hopper
I love this building so much. The architecture alone is stunning, but to learn about its history and experience the views make it so much more wonderful. I highly reccomend heading to the speak-easy style bar at the observation level. Great drinks with an amazing view.
Ty Walsh
We went late (@9) and got to go through the tour before going up. As an avid history buff, I was thoroughly impressed. The tour is short and the backstory behind the building is amazing. The top floor was absolutely amazing. Great photo opportunities and good drinks.
Nathan Tyler
Great views! The fact that you have to pay full price for a tour just to get to the bar is over priced. It cost us $42 to get upstairs for a drink that was worth $12 but priced $17. Overall I paid $59 for a $12 drink and an hour wait for a decent view and mediocre service. The next night I spent less than $50 on great atmosphere, same drink x2, and 2 amazing burgers. Same price, two different experiences.
Deanna Shaw
Fun for a drink at the top, beautiful view. We were surprised by the great view at the top, and the bar. Had a good drink and took in the view of Seattle from a different vantage point. Its always cool to see these old buildings with character and style. They have done a nice job of showing this off.
Victoria Scott
I did the historical self-guided mystery tour and it was a lot of fun! The elevator ride was great, the elevator operator was full of little historical tidbits and you can tell he really enjoyed his job! It was nice to be able to walk around outside and see all the city lights at night up on top of the tower
tias
Very cool elevator & nice lookout
Riley Smith (wispy93)
A wonderful experience. It is a great place to get a great view of the city. The building is really historic and the elevator operator was dressed as if it was 1950s. It is too far away to see the Space Needle but you can see almost everything else including the stadium. It is only $14 to go up after 9pm.
Regina Carter
I really enjoyed Smith Tower. There was a cool interactive historical section where I could learn about the history of the building, then a fun "antique" elevator ride with a really nice attendant, and when you arrive that the observatory you can walk all the way around the tower on the exterior balcony. Inside the observatory level is a bar with craft cocktails and some tasty bites to eat. The food was a little hit-or-miss (but mostly pretty tasty) and was a bit pricey but that is to be expected in this type of tourist venue/historical exhibit. Overall I had a great time there and the views were wonderful.
Erika Breen
The view of the city is spectacular. The food and cocktails, and service was outstanding. The history of the building fascinating, the architecture amazing. Worth every penny!
Mike
This is truly a beautiful part of Seattle history. The food was delicious and drinks were just right. And the view during the sunset was great.
An Actual Breadstick
Really neat, historic place. Must see if you are visiting Seatown.
Rich Coffing
Was at the Irish Pub! Loved the bartender. She was great!
Michael Darnell
The Thai Beef Udon was really good. Noodles were al dente, bok choy was crisp, broth was rich and flavorful. Needless to say, the views of the city were great too.
Amandip Ubhi
Amazing views, a lot of history and the elevator operator was super informative. PS - Check groupon for cheap tickets!
DeQuan Watson
This is a nice place to go for an interesting night out. Though you'll end up spending about $100 all things included for two people.
There's parking across the street in two lots, so you'll pay for that. Then you have to pay for access to the upper floors. Then of course your food and drinks.
That said, it's real nice up top. It's almost like enjoying a secret bar in a speakeasy or something. You can look out over the city. The drinks were very tasty.
The food, while good, was a bit slow. Might have been short-staffed that night from the looks of things though. The menu is small, but reasonable diverse enough for everyone to fine something. The best description is sophisticated, upscale bar food.
If you haven't been here and want to try something different, give this place a look.
Leanna Brouse
Beautiful view from the top, and learn about the history of the building on your way up!
Bob Rodgers
Great looking old skyscraper that not only offers great views at the top (along with a nice lounge/restaurant) but allows you to learn about its history and some of Seattle's. The interactive elements were really great, especially if you enjoy treasure hunts and the history of the Prohibition era.
Meghan O'Neill
Views were fun and the cocktails were great but it seemed like there were a lot of arbitrary rules and there weren’t a ton of good food options.
Stephanie Carson
I recommend the Smith Tower of you're looking for a great happy hour spot with awesome views, but don't want to pay Space Needle prices! The building has great history, beautiful art deco fishing, and the elevator is the last manually operated elevator in the city. Great prohibition-era cocktails and Manhattan menu. The food is honestly nothing to write home about and is overpriced, so plan on grabbing a cocktail and appetizer.
The bar/ restaurant is small so you may have to wait, and they do stop selling tickets to get up to the top at a certain point. So get there early.
Collin Ashbaugh
A nice view of the city, the interior itself is very nice and staff are friendly
Derek Reaves
This Smith tower takes you back in time to the 1920's and 30s. It was the 3rd tallest building in the world when it was built. They've done a great job of keeping a lot of original decor and putting signs up that told how it was originally. The bar at the top has great cocktails and takes you back to the prohibition era. It's a great place to catch sunset and has great views of the city. You can walk around on the viewing deck and then have a drink. They also have a small good menu as well. I'd definitely recommend on your visit yup Seattle.
Tobias McCurry
I've always loved Smith Tower, and the fact that they have a phenomenal observation deck experience complete with comprehensive museum exhibit is amazing.
The experience is streamlined, historically informative and even worth it to get a membership as a local in WA state.
The service is top tier, and the food is excellent. While the portions aren't phenomenally generous, they have excellent food and a myriad of unique and high class cocktails to choose from.
The venue caters to dressing up for a fancy evening, or having a more casual but classy meet up with friends and associates. I personally will always take my business friends from out of town out to the Smith Tower.
Their precautions with COVID have been solid, and I have no doubt their staff has been operating in the upmost professional manner regarding taking the pandemic seriously.
I. M. da Silva
I stop by the Smith Tower every time I am in Seattle. It offers wonderful vistas of the city, although the view of the Space Needle was obscured by another building this last time I went. Affordable in comparison to other "observatories" in other cities. The bar serves amazing cocktails, food is overpriced but decent. I highly recommend the devilled eggs.
Service has generally been good, though the last time we went (on a weeknight, last night), it was very lackluster, and as it wasn't busy, I was surprised by how slow and inattentive the service was. Other servers ended up stepping in and helping our server because she ignored us for long stretches of time.
HOWEVER, this is a great bar with a nice view, cute little museum, and nice staff (on other days, lol).
Tanner Smith
Very cool feel to this "speakeasy-esque" observation level bar. Awesome selection of beer, wine, and cocktails, and some good selections for food as well. Wait staff has always been awesome as well. Became a member after the first visit and don't regret it at all!
Adam Velebil
Great exhibition and outstanding views. Nice price in the happy hour and good drinks.
Matt Perrone
Smith Tower is a pretty neat little historical spot in downtown Seattle. It has some interesting history behind it and you can find out all about it through the tour they have (which also allows you to go to the top). The elevators are super old which is cool, but the view from the top is great, and it has a little bar up there which is nice (you can also order food depending on the time of day). If you haven't been up there, it's worth the few bucks to go see the view.
Laura Bensona
This was on our list for two reasons. Number one. This was the first original skyscraper in Seattle. And had a speakeasy themed bar which we hope to have some lunch cocktails in. The whole experience was a lot of fun and the bar was quiet I think probably due to the fact that it was middle of the week but also because of the entrance fee to go up to see the views. Well worth a visit if you’re in Seattle. We liked the class and theme and vibe of the bar.
Margo Maxie
Best staff and best sunset of Seattle! Do self a favor and check this gem out!
Stefan Russell
What an awesome experience! Lived in Seattle for awhile now and finally checked this off the list! The history is great, the bar is great, and the elevator operator was fantastic! This is a place you can come back to over and over and not get bored of it! Looking forward to another visit!
Aline
Be ready to travel back in time and enjoy a fancy drink in this stylish rooftop bar. The view is stunning - especially at sunset! It's also possible to take a 360° walk on the little patio outside the bar.
Luke Meyers
Finally got to visit, nice bar up near the top, great place for drinks.
Julia Veir
This was a pretty good experience. They've turned the top floor into a bar (prohibition era theme: attractive interior) and it is surrounded by an outdoor walkway. In addition they have small informational stations on your way up with interactive exhibits regarding the history of the building: it was interesting and kids would likely enjoy it. The first floor/entrance has an old fashioned soda fountain: I'm not sure of the hours but it was very attractively designed and would be fun to visit by itself.
The day we were visiting you had to walk several additional flights of stairs after the elevator to reach the top observation level: I'm not sure if an elevator was out of order or if that's standard.
The drinks were standard offerings but executed very well and quite reasonably priced considering it's a tourist attraction in downtown Seattle. The views are great and it seemed less busy than the Space Needle. I would definitely consider this a great alternative to the Space Needle as a general attraction and if you're looking for a bar with great views, well, it would be hard to beat this one n Seattle.
Jacob Schmitt
One of the best views of Seattle on a clear day. We had no wait to get to the top. We were able to walk around the observatory to see 360 degree views. Had a drink with the best view of the water and sunset and had a meal that was surprisingly good for a place that you would think the views would be the main attraction. Unique environment, atmospheric music, interesting drinks and a few good food choices. Definitely a place to visit when in Seattle.
Melanie Peterson
So much better than the space needle! we loved sitting down in the intimate Chinese room during sunset to watch all the harbor boats go by. It has great 360 views of the whole city- you can even see some mountains in the distance. We got two different drinks and they were both delicious- you can tell they put some craft into their menu. will certainly be returning on our next trip to the city
Anthony Wade Jr.
Great place. The tour is self guided, but the view at the top is amazing.
Leah Perrien
We were here on a Thursday morning and the place was super quiet. $19 for the 'self guided tour' seems steep for what you get. We watched the video, participated in the character scavenger hunt and enjoyed the view. There's a bar at the top, but $14 cocktails didn't really interest us. The view is great though and the history gives it a fun twist.
Anthony White
This is a pretty building! However, some of the old charm was lost when the switched from the old manual elevators. You have to pay to get to the bar at the top of the building. I don't think that's right. The bar is really nice and serves great drinks. The bar and bartenders have that old charm like the building. The tour is ok, there is some neat things to see
Claudia Elena
Amazing view. This building is so classic. If you love vintage, you will love this place. So many spots for neat pictures with the vintage vibes. A nice place to get some good drinks and enjoy a classic vintage seattle view.
Ben Carson
This is great historic place in Seattle. The first skyscraper and the tallest building this side of the Mississippi for a long time. Although this building had been updated, they've kept a lot of awesome details, line the original doorknobs. The office spaces allow for great views and a fun office and the bar at the observation deck is great as well. Be sure to take the self guided tour. It's awesome!
Reltetso Heidde
Great views of the city no doubt. The prawn cocktail took quite a long time and the cocktails were a little low from the brim.
There wasn't much to drink..
Hilary Pointer
Smith Tower is one of the most highly underrated attractions in Seattle. Construction was completed in 1914 and the builders spared no expense. The building is absolutely beautiful and covered in marble. The bottom floor has a wonderful gift shop (seriously - where else can you get a $15 screen-printed t-shirt?) and a soda & ice cream shop. With your paid admission ($20, I think they have a local discount) you go through a very well-done museum then up the original brass elevators to the 35th floor. They even have elevator operators (my favorite guy is the one who asks you to pick a number...just try it). The top floor is an observation deck that goes all the way around the top, and a newly renovated bar & restaurant. Prices are a little high but the cocktails are delicious. If you're a local, I recommend getting the Rum Runner membership - you can take a guest with you every visit, 15% off food and alcohol and the gift shop, and you get a discount if you buy two memberships. Highly, highly recommended.
Alex Tran (Schimiggy)
I always have a great time at Smith Tower. I joined as a member and can go with a visitor as my guest any time I wish. They have WiFi so you can somewhat work from the tower and enjoy the views.
They have their lookout open during the summer, so definitely come by. They also have Happy Hour drinks and deals for their Rum Runner (and other tiered) members. The cocktails are creative and flavorful.
We'll definitely be back! Love being members here!
Arthur Sacramento
Beautiful building finished in 1914 with amazing staff and some interesting historic area before getting to the beautiful elevators. Everyone was kind and knowledgeable. On the top floor there is an observatory with amazing views and an excellent bar for drink watching the sunset. Not to miss in a visit to Seattle.
Bobbi
So we went to Seattle for a birthday get together recently and some of our friends ran a little late. We ended up with a few hours to spare and figured we would check this place out.
OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS THE BEST BAR IN SEATTLE.
It doesn't feel like a tourist trap, the drinks are amazing, the decor makes you feel like Michelle Pfeiffer in scarface, the food is out of this world and all locally sourced and the view!!! If you've been on the ferris wheel by the ferry and thought that was high up.... just go in the smith tower.
The prices for locals were awesome and it has become the first stop I make in Seattle to pre-game.
Katie O'Riley
What a cool place! They have an outside balcony with a 360 view. As you walk to the elevator you get to read some of the history of the building! Nice cocktails and if Rainer is out, $2.50 rainiers! There is a cool "wishing chair" to sit and take a selfie in as well. I would love to go back and also try one of their jazz nights out.
Carrie Payan
Spectacular view. Obviously. I loved the history facts at the bar. The drinks were really great too! Our server was really sweet too. I wish I tried more from the menu. We only had the potstickers. They were great! I went at night and it was a clear day. I am definitely going again during the day
Melissa g
Nice history and a great view of the city.
Diggler G
Great view, great cocktails! Food is decent. They also have a promotion, for $100 for the year, you can bring a guest up the tower for free and get 20% off your bill, alcohol included!
Sharon Chafin
Just knowing my mom worked here in the 1940's was good reason to visit! We enjoyed the Monday Blues n Booze event. Nice ensemble, tho I was looking for more New Orleans style, with some seasoned dancers. Limited food selection, but enjoyed the salmon poke - nicely done! It was a very nice evening - not to mention the history and 360 views from atop!
Sarah Black
Beautiful view for less than half of what the space Needle costs plus drinks!
Florian Verhein
Great view of Seattle. Nice bar. Lovely old style elevators with friendly (and funny at times) operators to whisk you to the top. Think of this as the non-touristy space Needle, certainly worth visiting more than once, and somewhere you can travel back in time to experience some of Seattle's history. After all, this was the tallest building in the US for a period of time if I recall facts correctly.
Jerry Mumm
Did the tour.... And the observation deck. We did drinks and some food. Was very nice and the views were great. Got very busy around happy hour so get there a little early. Classy and casual....enjoy!
Sean N.
Smith tower is a great little gem in downtown. Some fun interactive history keeps you engaged and provides some fun context to old Seattle. Fun bar at the top where the drinks are great but not enough to justify the price tag to go up just for drinks. Head there between 4pm and 6pm to reduce the cost. Overall really pleased with the experience.
Kevin Chung
I came up at night and really enjoyed my visit. The staff were all very friendly, and the place meshes with the theme very well, with nice touches on the uniforms and decor. The views are also great around the observatory, putting you at a nice height to see great views of Downtown and Elliott Bay.
SJ
I'm not one for heights but the views we're spectacular! There was an interactive self-led tour that was very educational and fun. The hand operated elevator was a bit scary but the operator was full of fun information. Definitely a must do when in Seattle!
Vickie Ji
Beautiful place, wonderful view, nicely done!
Ron Weisman
Amazing for the views and historical context. The drinks were good, we did not eat, but if one paid the price of admission for just the history and access to the observation deck, it would be a great addition to your itinerary.
Mike Alvarez
Not a tourist trap at all, just one of the better kept secrets in Seattle that very few people go to. This place is awesome not only for the history but the awesome bar at the top, the view that rivals (IMO beats) the Space Needle and super friendly staff. Honestly I'd rather Seattlites keep ignoring it so we can enjoy one of our favorite date night spots! If you go a lot, consider the Rum Runner membership to save a lot of money.
fernando ramirez
this isn't the tallest building in downtown but i do believe it has the best view! the interactive museum was a blast! i highly suggest stopping by here and learning a bit more about how the tower came to be. the viewing deck above is also awesome because you get the full 360 degrees
Brian Goad
Wonderful observation level with a fast elevator, great service and an excellent wine and beer selection. We went on a Wednesday and there was hardly anyone there. I highly recommend and the atmosphere was very elegant looking in Seattle. We loved it and will come back again.
Ric Mayer
This provides excellent views of the city from an early 20th century tower. There is a fee for the tour. (Make sure you ask for the Locals rate; it is even better the the Senior discount.)
A Chinese-decor restaurant offers at reasonable prices. And, you can get to the restaurant (and attendant bar) without having go through the tour (and entrance fee).
Tom Turner
Surprised and delighted by the self guided tour, my family really enjoyed our visit. Fun interactive exhibits, we meandered through to the 2nd floor where an elevator operator whisked us up in a gilded and historical elevator to the observation deck, which provides stunning views in every direction. A much more interesting experience and a far better value than the Space Needle, I have to say.
Patrick Kenger
An amazing experience and view. Had a drink at the bar and looked over a good chunk of Seattle. The highlight of the trip was actually the elevator ride up. Joe is a wealth of knowledge and keeps things very entertaining. You can tell he has a passion for the Smith tower and Seattle itself. Very impressed.
pnw max
I went here for the observation deck. Awesome views, great history, including the old elevator experience on the way up and down. Worth a visit for residents and tourists.
Kaci Stingel
Fabulous service and View. Building was beautiful, elevator was old style and very cool! I sat at the bar, charged my phone, and had myself a Riesling wine and some strawberry ice cream. More fitting than going to the space needle for personal liking/decisions. Highly Recommend.
Lori Aspenleiter
Such a historical interesting place with beautiful ambience, good food & drinks. Great service and reasonable prices and the sunset view is stunning! Highly recommend! Fabulous place for a Wedding proposal or special date night! Dress casual or dressy!
Jason Santos
A gorgeous view, in the most fabulous of surroundings, serving well curated cocktails. Where this location needs to improve, is in its food. It was rather low-grade when compared to everything else being served.
Andrew Hsiao
This is a little gem for tourists. For a relatively expensive entrance fee you get to go to the top of this historical tower. It used to be the tallest in the city but now there are so many other buildings taller than it. I enjoyed being on top and looking down still though. What made this place great was the bar and restaurant on top. The atmosphere was great and relaxing. Prices shown on menu for drinks were inclusive of tax already too which I was delighted since tax in seattle is high at 10.1%
Sean Lariz
Great view from here. Historic building in Seattle. A fun alternative to the over crowded/overpriced space needle.
Elena Whitaker
We included Smith Tower in our Spring Break plans last week and it turned out to be one of the highlights. Yes, the view was incredible and the cafe / bar at the top was a cool place to enjoy a break. However, my favorite part was the interactive exhibits. Everyone gets to be a character that was a part of the tower's history, so rather than merely running to the top of the tower, we (adult & kids) read through the various exhibits to learn about our characters. It added some fun historical learning to the trip. I highly recommend it.
Isiah Sevenly
Get your vaccine card and head down to this historical Seattle land mark. The observatory is the place to be for drinks and food with a gorgeous view, even at night.
Keith Zeller
I almost don’t want to write this review. I’d love to keep this place a hidden gem. But you must know, that the bar near the top of the Smith Tower is absolutely amazing! Walk around the viewing platform, enjoy the incredible decor, and of course be impressed by the cocktails. Both locals & tourists will be equally impressed 😀 …
MELANIE Willis
The interactive character cards were a great addition to the museum.
Chris Walgenbach
Very interesting history! 360° observation deck has amazing views of downtown and the surrounding Seattle area. The bar/restaurant at the top is a cool touch; a little pricey, but that's expected.
J. Oles
The "speak easy" self-guided tour is kind of lame but the observation deck is amazing. The food and drink prices are average, they have an interesting selection of drinks, and the staff were wonderful. Plus their attire is interesting and 1920s-esque.
David Butkos
Fantastic history, interactive educational exhibits. The views from the top are amazing. Could use a little updating [some info plaques are faded, or missing]. Didn't care for the "canned" speech by the elevator operator, and the bag asking for tips [for elevator operator] was in poor taste
Captain Becks
Nice historical exhibit and excellent views.
John van Bockxmeer
Smith tower boasts beautiful panoramic views across Seattle and the Puget sound. You can take a small elevator up to the top floor where there's a restaurant serving nice drinks and small eats. I love this restoration and the historical information displayed at the bottom. It is still an active office block so I wish it wasn't as expensive to access.
Danny G.
Really great view and interactive exhibit. Nice lounge on the top
Joe Warwick
Super history lesson and great views and atmosphere.
Eric Clark
Great location for food, drinks, views and history on Seattle. Everybody working here was incredibly nice and informative.
Alicia Irving
Small fee for an AMAZING view of the city! Bar wise, drinks are decent, the microwaveable food is way below average tbh could be way better for the price lol. Overall the small fee is worth the view alone! 😁 …
The English Princess
One of the best places in the city to watch the sunset unobstructed and without the crowds. Do the puzzle on the first floor for a discount.
josh eller
The architecture of this building is amazing, and the history is very entertaining. We spent almost two hours at the top looking out over the city. My grandfather said it was exactly like it was when he toured it in the late 50's. The bar is slightly more epensive than others in the area but the view can't be beat.
Samantha Colden
I've got a bit of a thing about tall buildings and I was really excited when I found out that the Smith Tower had recently undergone renovations. The building itself although not the highest in town, is certainly one of the most attractive. It costs $12 to take the old fashioned elevator up to the 35th floor, but before you do, there's a fun and really interactive exhibition that tells the story of the building and about the history of prohibition.
The elevator only takes 6 people, so unlike so many other tall building tours, you don't have the feeling of being herded sheep. We loved the little touches of the staff being dressed in 1920's style uniforms.
The bar at the top had some really attractive features but in many ways we felt it missed the mark; no table service, many tables dirty and food served on disposable plates with disposable cutlery. That said, service was friendly and the views are amazing.
The outside observation deck offers awesome views on a clear day and it's not crowded either so you can really appreciate the views. Well worth a visit, if you love history and want a sky high (almost) view of Seattle.

The observation floor of Smith Tower offers a great view of downtown Seattle and the harbor. Expect to pay about $20 per person to get to the observation floor, but this also gives you access to a well designed exhibit which let's you explore the history of the first local skyscraper before you're taken up to the top in an elevator ride. The observation deck has a prohibition themed bar with great food. It's all a little pricey, but well worth the few extra dollars if you've never been to the top of Smith before. I recommend this both for locals and travelers.

The observation deck is so much fun! plan to be there for a while and hang out on a clear day. They have some drink specials on Fridays and they had a $2 tall boy of Rainier special if the mountain was out! Our server was Adam and he was awesome. The drinks are mostly specialty cocktails but don't let that hold you back from asking them to create you something original. Adam made an amazing spicy, grapefruit drink with egg whites in it... amazing and actually spicy!

Iconic Seattle landmark. Worth the cost to ride the cool retro elevators, take in a breathtaking view of the city and Puget Sound, and imbibe in an adult beverage or tasty fare in 35th floor restaurant and bar. Interesting and fun self-guided tour, full of local history and insight into the early days of the city. Fantastic grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup.

My branch office is here, so I can visit observartory. I can see beautiful scenery of Seattle coast and city

Very beautiful, historic Seattle building. The girls when we walked in weren't dying to help us but eventually we got what we needed to head on up to the observatory. The views are amazing and it's nice to enjoy a cocktail in the China Room. Worth seeing.

Great city view; mediocre food.

Love the bar at the top - great cocktails and appetizers. Nice views and really unique interior design. A bit pricey but not bad considering the location/tourist attraction aspect.

So so
We wanted to catch the sunset, but they assign times to groups. So technically they control when you go up. We missed the sunset group time, but went up with the group afterward. We were a little puzzled as to how to get to the elevator and wish there were better signage advising guests. The elevator operator was quirky and his work outfit matched the theme of his job.
Although we missed the sunset, it was still nice to view the city, water and other sites. There is a bar at top so you can have a cocktail and enjoy the view. Upon exiting the tower, keep in mind your exit location is different from the entrance location. I wanted to get Seattle based chocolate at their mini gift shop, but was unable to because of the different exit.

View and history great! Ambience lovely, old and classy. Food good but not super upscale. Sandwiches, flatbread, soups, salads, not hot entrees really. Great drink options! Friendly service

Provides a cool view of Seattle and an interesting history lesson.

Great place! The updated Chinese Room really something special. If you're a beer drinker try the Rude Parrot IPA. Excellent place to view Seattle and relax for a little while. Pioneer Square not far good place to stop for some ice cream and take a pic of the Chief Seattle bust.

This place was amazing. A great place to hang out whether with a friend or a date night to have a couple of drinks and watch the view. The service was really good as well.

Beautiful view. Service could have been more friendly

Iconic building in downtown Seattle. Walk around the neighborhoods around it for a great experience.

Like walking into history, the exhibits of the Smith Tower give you a chance to explore the 1920s in a way unlike anywhere else in Seattle. Take your time and explore opening every drawer you can and every door that's available you'll never know what you'll find as the exhibit has plenty of surprises! The view from The Observatory is 80 feet lower than that of the Space Needle, but being outdoors it gives a terrific feeling.

Christmas Party Venue for our company. This was an intimate, cozy place with a killer view for around 100 people. Drinks were great, bar service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was classy. It's a space that lends itself to mingling during a group gathering.

Self-guided tour has a nice history of the tower with important characters for guests to role play. One can spend lots of time here reading all the facts and murals. Observation deck is nothing like the Empire State Building grandeur but is worth a visit. They have cheaper rates for hometown guests.

In town on business and took in 1 site lol! We had Jessica for our waitress and she was amazing! Went above and beyond with her service tonight! View was great we had night time, with rain and fog, but the fog lifted so we had several beautiful picture opportunities.
A must see!

It's considerably shorter than the Space Needle, but I went during happy hour for the Observatory (Mon-Thu 4-6pm) and admission was $10.50. You take a old timey elevator up and I got the Space Needle in some of my pics, which you can't do if you're in it... they have a small happy hour menu at the bar as well.

Very nice views at the top.

My fav view in the city and love the elevators! You get a panoramic view but it feels quaint and personal. Although I do agree they could do more with the room at the top where you purchase your ticket... who cares about the inside? The view is outside!
Jonathan Ruvalcaba
Great piece of history. Visiting right after lunch time was perfect because it wasn't too busy. Observatory is decently priced and some say, it's a better view than the one from the space needle.
Fernando Martincic
Great views. The bar is a bit overpriced, but i guess that's expected from a tourist destination. Cocktails are quite good though. Food is a bit more hit and miss though. I'd avoid the flat breads, but the rest the menu is good.

Amazing views of Seattle. No lines or crowds. Self guided tour with loads of history. Viewing is on the 35th floor with a restaurant you can take your time and enjoy The view. The restaurant had a great lunch menu and bar.

If you want to see great views of Seattle without the crazy tourist line-ups, Smith Tower is for you. Great art deco architecture and one of the highest points in Seattle before the modern skyscrapers. Great lounge at the top for a nice cocktail.

Really enjoyed the view from the top and the fact that it wasn't a crowded attraction. It really is a beautiful building! At $20/person the fee to top felt a little high but reasonable compared to other attractions

A Must Do in Seattle! It is $12 for WA residents, $12 for everyone after 9pm. The whole thing is an incredible experience! You get to walk through the building and they have it setup to tell the story of the 1920s with people who actually worked in Smith Tower. It was so fun! You get to interact with the displays (for example, a switchboard). The service was amazing! View is amazing! Chocolate truffle dessert brought tears to my eyes 😍🤤

Got a great Groupon deal for 2 people here. Not the tallest tower but definitely the most interactive and immersive experience that was a trip back in time! The observatory at the top was beautiful with a nice restaurant. Would recommend!

Smith Tower (original name), or Ivar's Tower (current name), is such an icon of Seattle. It was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River for decades, until the Space Needle rose past it, for the 1962 Worlds Fair. Beautifully clad in terracotta, it has withstood all of the earthquakes of the decades since it was built. The interior is incredible marble and brass. Absolutely beautiful. The elevators were once controlled by suited operators, but I understand they have gone automatic now - very sad - it was an image of bygone days.

Great experience, great views, great food and drinks
Ashley Scott
So much fun! Way. Way better than the space needle. The self guided tour is well designed and interactive. The observation deck wasn't crowded and has some unbeatable views of the city!
Emily Alexander
For my friend's birthday, I went to this location. Cocktails, green tea dessert, and hummus and vegetables were on the menu.
Nate Jacobson
Great place to grab a drink and see amazing views of the city. Also to read and interact with history.

We loved the spirit of the building, it’s elevators (they are old and look exactly like in Titanic movie) and it’s beautiful exhibit. Rooftop/ observation desk, however, was a disappointment. It’s almost impossible to take good pics there, and a Space needle is lost behind other tall buildings. The free photo booth saved the day. Come here for the spirit of Old America, not for an observation desk!
Gerardo Dinglasan
Great view of city. Good food on the observation floor.
Sally Sheck
Great drink menu with unusual offerings and features small, socially conscious distilleries. Good selection of non alcoholic beverages and delicious and healthy menu items alongside the bar classics. Friendly staff.
