Reviews of Independence Hall
Victor Noel
Just a fascinating and inspirational experience. We went without tickets in winter and waited about 45 minutes. It was quite cold outside but that made us feel like we were part of the history! Tour guide was great with kids and also answered all of our questions. Definitely a feeling and vibe that can’t be replicated by watching YouTube videos. Must go in person.

This is a must visit for any American or tourist to get a great history lesson on the early development of the United States. The volunteers on site are extremely knowledgeable, and we had great conversations & debates about certain aspects that were raised. It is super that many objects within the buildings are original and been preserved for so long. Close to Liberty Bell & Independence Park, several parking structures nearby if driving.

This was such an amazing place to see. To be in the place where the Declaration of Independence and US Constitution were signed, where the founding fathers once sat and gave us our freedom just leaves me speechless. Make sure to get there before 7 as they do close and they do tours it seems like every 30 min. The tour was really good and we received a lot of great information. So happy I got to see this place. You also see the old courtroom. I've posted pictures of everything.

An iconic landscape for not only in the history of United States, but also for the world. This is the hall from where the independence from the crown was signed and announced, and the new democratic nation was formed. It’s thrilling to be there and see all the old setup- chair tables etc. we booked a tour from before. It’s only 1$ per person, and I highly recommend that. The tour guide will take the entire group and explain everything. Our guide was very nice. She explained great, and also answered all our questions. It was the 4th July weekend, so hugely crowded- but can’t beat the feeling! Anybody should visit if they are in Philly.
Phil Luthman
THIS WAS FABULOUS. It’s a tour of two large rooms on the first floor of the Independence Hall. However, the national park staff have an entire story to tell you in each room about the history behind the 13 colonies declaring independence from Britain. I learned so many things I had forgotten from elementary school :) Book online ahead of time, it’s only $1 per person (in fact, you have to, walk ups only happen at 5pm at the end of the day which I don’t recommend). The tour lasts about 30 minutes which was short enough if you have young kids. The website recreation.gov says you must arrive 30 min ahead of time (in case security lines are long). Our tour was at 12:20, we arrived at 11:50 and sat for 20-25 min not doing much. I would say arrive 15 min before at the most to get through security. If you visit in the Winter they may let you up the stairs to see additional rooms. When you hear the bell chime on the hour, that’s the bell at Independence Hall! So cool to be where history was made. If you are visiting Philly, don’t skip this.

The National Park Service guides do a good job presenting the Hall's history in a low-tech, engaging way. We had to reserve tickets online and were told to arrive 30 minutes before the tour time to clear security. We've visited a dozen times with guests, and last-minute types are still welcomed. The ticket also includes a visit to the Documents Hall and Congress Hall. Some of the best views of the Hall are from the Liberty Bell's window across the street.
Anthony O'Connell-Gros
Definitely worth going to! Only costs $1 per person when booking online. You get to see the historical buildings and documents and learn about them. There is a 20 minute tour with a park ranger and ours was really great and he was a great guy. Of course many people are interested but it is not overcrowded.
Victor Cano
Fair warning buy your tickets on the website and you need tickets to get in. Go to recreation(.)gov and find independence hall Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The tour cost only a dollar. Was so worth it though for a buck also since this a historical place. Please note you need to follow security procedures and understand that this is a historical area. Please respect the boundaries and the area they have place.
Overall, fantastic place. Love it here. The tour is about 20 minutes long but it is a great still and it only cost a dollar to get in. Not bad and love learning about our country.
Simon Kingsnorth
The tours of these buildings were very well done. The locations themselves are of course very interesting, but the Rangers add a huge amount of value as guides. Their historical knowledge was fantastic and they made it fun too. Kids loved it and so did I as an adult. As well as the paid rooms there are other places to visit for free that are equally fascinating. An essential visit if you’re in the area with plenty of other interesting sites and parking nearby.
Melissa C
Unfortunately I was not able to take the tour because tickets are required in advance, and when I checked there were no more tickets. I did however get to attend the Congress Hall tour which you don’t need tickets for, and that within itself was a great experience. The park rangers are very knowledgeable and overall very nice. Across the street you will find the Liberty Bell too. A great place to visit if you’re looking to learn a little bit of history while also looking at great architecture.
Osula Lam
I walked here from the place I was staying on a Monday morning in late June 2022. There was already a short line for security. They made you walk through a medal detector and scan your bag for any weapons.
If you scheduled a tour, like I did, just follow the signs that says "tour". These tours are very popular. They're 20 minutes each and pretty anticlimactic. You get to go inside one building and see how the Philadelphia courtroom used to look like. The second room you get to see is the room the Declaration of Independence was discussed and agreed upon
Personally, I did not find the Tour necessary. If you have not seen old government buildings before then it might be good to go but I did not find the Tour that interesting. If you do want to take the tour you must schedule a tour time online and reservations is only $3 or something like that.
Deepti Kalkur
Beautiful tour. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable guides. The tour lasted for about 20 minutes. It was informative, and they take you back to the 1700s with their narrative skills.
The tour is free from 5pm to 7pm on weekends. And otherwise $1/person.
Mike Ford
I loved this museum. The police standing guard around the area the volunteers leading the tour and teaching the history of our Great Nation. What an awesome and inspiring tour. Good job y’all. Your a lot nice the the revolutionary museum.
Kailey Parks
We really enjoyed our visit to Independence Hall. We went on a rainy Friday morning the week before Christmas, I had reserved the first tour group of the morning in the Parks app ($1 per person), and we didn't have to wait at all. The building interior all looked freshly painted, and our guide gave a nice overview of both main rooms. You are kept behind a railing on both rooms and can't walk freely, but it's a low railing and seems to provide a great view for all - including shorter persons and those in wheelchairs. So neat to see where the signing happened! Don't skip the other available buildings at this location! Everything in this area is incredibly walkable. You can see the Liberty Bell through the window in the building across the street, Congress Hall is a neat stop literally next door.
Jose Ortega
This was a great experience. To be in such an important room to our history was amazing. The tour really gives you a lot of information. Everyone at the NPS is really helpful and know so much about the history here. Getting tickets was fairy easy. I showed up in person to get tickets that were free early in the morning.
I grew in Southern California and they have a replica of the hall there but to see the real one was something else.
Ashlina Chin
We enjoyed our time at Independence Hall. It was really easy to purchase tickets the night before at our desired time. We arrived around 40 minutes early and they were able to fit us into an earlier tour. Our guide was funny and entertaining as she gave us a good overview of the history and what was going on in our nation at the time. One tip is that the independence hall visitor center is different from where your tour will begin so read the instructions provided with your ticket purchase.
Dallas
We wanted to make sure and see Independence Hall while visiting philadelphia. The tickets were only a dollar a piece online I'm guessing that's the limit the crowds. It's only a 20-minute tour and you get to see the two rooms in the building. The first room that will visit is the actual courthouse and the second of course is the constitutional chamber. The museum guide was very informative in a short period of time and I found the information to be very enlightening. The rooms are kept as close to original condition as they could.
Rachelle Marie
A historic must see. Worth the dollar charge for the tour of the debate room where The Declaration of Independence was drafted and other important documents were drafted. You also get to see the court room.
Purchase tickets in advance at recreation.gov. Masks were provided.
Cody Weikel
Independence Hall is a great 20 minute tour to view two very important rooms in American History. Tickets are required for the tour, but are only $1. You can buy them online ahead of time. The tour is only on the first floor, but the building is pretty impressive on the outside.
Veena Choudary
Humbling experience.
Very well organized, definitely must see.
Tickets for a timed tour are booked online through the website- a nominal fee of $1 per person. Book in advance as there are limited spots. Plenty of time slots to choose from. Each tour is 20 min long. There is security that you will need to go through. Plan accordingly so that you arrive on time for your tour. The tours seemed pretty booked.
There are signs for where the tour meets (outside). A Park Ranger leads you in. They take their time explaining things and allowing for photographs. The tour is short but well done. The Ranger we had - Quinn- was excellent. The entire experience was very well-coordinated. You learn a lot and it’s humbling to be in such a historic building- very well preserved.

Independence Hall is pretty much a must-see when you're in Philadelphia, and it's free! I saw it in February when you didn't need a timed ticket to enter, but starting in March, you'll need to get a ticket online beforehand (and that may carry a small processing fee.) I queued up just a little after 9 am, the same as a good crowd of other people, and by the time everyone got through security (all coats and bags off!) and back in line to enter, I was just in the 9:45 group. They only let 17 visitors in at a time (and I took a little time getting my coat back on and taking pictures.) With timed tickets, this may be less of an issue.
Inside, there's just a pretty entry hall, a 1700s courtroom on one side and the room they signed the Declaration of Independence the Constitution on the other. It's a guided tour with a well-educated national park ranger and they're great with kids. I think the whole thing takes maybe 15-20 minutes, then you're out the back door facing the Liberty Bell Center. You can also walk into the original supreme court building to one side.
Glen Killian
One of the greatest experiences of my life. To be in the place where it all started. Our tour guide really spoke well, very knowledgeable, and brought life to the words and the world of those great men that set our country in motion.
Tommy
The weather was perfect on the day of our visit. Beautiful architecture, but most importantly, the significance of the site itself is the focus. It’s worth a visit if you’re ever in town. Otherwise, not much to really see.
Charity Brown
This was an amazing experience. I was super happy it was not only open, but free for the guided tour. You learn so much history on this tour. You are also able to tour the congress hall while you wait for your tour.
Eytan Yadlovker
Amazing piece of history but only a few rooms to see. I would have wished for more information, more to do then look at a room and be told this is the room where it happened. The guides and staff were extremely knowledgeable but only in response to questions.
Paola Sanchez
Great tour, reserved online with only $1 fee :)
I recommend doing it in advance. Tours are not long but very informative and interesting. I enjoyed it very much.
Ethan Z
Great Historical Site. The tours cost $1 and requires pre-purchase online. The tour was very informative and lasted about 15 minutes. The building does have alot of original parts including a chair President Washington sat in. It is really cool and definitely worth a visit.
Angela Shanken
Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable speaker/guide. Everyone needs to do this tour whether you are into history or not! Get your tickets ahead of time online.
Elizabeth Hadden
Such an informative visit! Our guide was very passionate about American history which made it such a great experience. Learned so much! It’s really incredible to stand in a space that’s packed with such history.
It’s free admission most days with a few select times of year that are ticketed. Didn’t need any reservations as there are rotating tours pretty frequently. A wonderful spot to visit if you haven’t been.
Leslie Hawes
Awesome tour! Very informative! Tickets are FREE, you just pay $1 pp as a service fee so basically we only paid $5 to visit and that's with making a reservation for the guided tour.
Jackson Campbell
Beautiful building where many important things happened like the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and the decision that we would be a Republic. The building has been well preserved inside and still has the original paint color.
They were doing tours of about 60 people into the hall every 15 minutes, so the line went pretty fast and wasn't full all the time either. Being a Sunday, the other buildings weren't open which made the hall the single main attraction in the park, which I'm sure made for the short wait.
I was encouraged by the historical accuracy of the tour guide and the points she made which progressives won't mention and even try to erase. A bit of fresh air compared to all the twisted history being pushed almost everywhere.
M. Jay Hilano
A National Park.
Birthplace of America where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution was debated and signed. Free tours given by the National Park Service Personnel. $1 per person. Online reservation are needed to reserve your tour time.
Melanie Holmes
I booked tour of Independence Hall about a week in advance, there were tons of times available (every 20 min). The park rangers are very knowledgeable and helpful. This is a "must" for history lovers. Be sure to see the Documents Building, where you'll see replicas of Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution.
Andrew Hood
Absolutely amazing Park Rangers that tell you a historic story about the building and who was in this incredible place while they were creating our country as well our system of laws and liberty. These Park Rangers really bring it to life and make you feel as if you were in the building with the Founding Fathers. Great job !!! Thank you very much !!!!
liz lo
Went there at night after all the crowds for tours had left. I was amazed at how close to history you could be, by being there and yet knowing that this is in fact a historical place where in 1776 we signed as a nation. Place is well protected by security as it should be. The place looks intact because it has been well preserved. Amazing!
Cassie L
No trip to Philadelphia is complete without visiting Independence Hall! On my visit I was able to read George Washington's copy of the constitution (with his hand-written notes), stand where Abraham Lincoln stood, and sit where James Madison liked to sit in Congress Hall. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and bring this historic place to life. It's absolutely worth a visit, just be sure to get your tour tickets in advance.
W. Ryan Ziegler
Glad to have been allowed the opportunity to bring a little slight of hand to independence hall with our talented event team @ Wizard Studios. In and out in less than 48 hours to produce an important presidential press event. The park was easy to work with and our commander in chief brought the space to life.
Ryan
Full of history! Make sure to schedule a tour prior to going to the hall. They fill up quick. Had a great tour guide. A must see in Philadelphia.
Tony Combs
This is great knowing tje history of the country. You know they signed to declaration of independence here at the hall. Maybe they did the debating of the bald eagle to this country in the same room in 1776. Who wanted the bald eagle as the nation's bird? In the same room. Who wanted the turkey as the nation's bird?
Erik Covert
We only had 2 days in Philly and when we went we did not realize you could not go into the building without tour tickets which seem out fast. Unfortunately we were not able to get tickets as they sell out fast. The building and ground is spectacular however!
jithin cherian
If you like history of America and if you like central city of Philadelphia don’t miss to visit this place. We can see the liberty bell and small home structure of George Washington. Also they have good restaurants nearby the building to get Philly cheesesteaks
Venugopal K
Independence Hall is the center piece of renowned Independance Historical parks. The Historical declaration of Independence was signed here in the year 1776. The framework for US Constitution was initiated by the representatives from 13 states. It's open from 9 am to 5 pm. Entry is by ticket which can be purchased online or by phone. It's located at 520, Chestnut street

Loved the place and the history. Great opportunity to mentally transport ourselves to the time where our founding fathers made important decisions that affect us every day.
Bathrooms are available, and clean. No food or gum please. If you get a passionate guide that will be your extra star.
Andrea A
I paid 2 dollars to reserve a time slot on a Saturday. Worth it to see I side the great hall and walk the areas the forefathers walked. It’s about a 30 minute presentation between the two main rooms. The interior is simple yet beautiful. El
Megan Clifford
Free tickets but you must book online in advance. Tour is short but very cool. Great to see where history was made and our nation began to take shape. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable
Susan Williams
I really wanted to see the inside, but all the tours were booked. I highly recommend booking in advance. Still, awesome to see a place I've only read about. The complex is much bigger than I thought.
Ashley Morrison
I went on a tour with a group of people for a first time. The employees there were so nice and helpful. I got to see untouched historical objects that were used in the 18th century. I actually got to sit on one of the chairs inside the Congress Hall next to the Independence Hall! The tour was short but fun. I would recommend anyone to come and be part of the tour group. 😁
Mauricia Day
This is part of American History everyone needs to see it was worth it and we went in and George who worked was very kind giving us information about Independence Hall. He let us look into the old city hall that used to be. It was a nice place to visit and we really enjoyed ourselves.
They had so many things for sale. Books, bookmarks, watches, postcards, Christmas decorations, copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights & all types of magnets for your refrigerator.
Everything for sale was high quality. It is a MUST see when you go to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Jonathan Fletcher
This is a fascinating place to visit for any American that loves history. To stand in the same building where our founding fathers worked to create our nation is a beautiful experience. The park rangers are knowledgeable and great at educating everyone on the history and significance around them. The entire historic district is worth multiple visits but this is the crown jewel. I look forward to visiting post-covid to see even more.
Christian M. Salas
First, if you are going to visit during the day ( before 5 PM), you need to reserve a ticket through the national parks service website. However, if you are not pressed for time, you can wait until 5 PM and be allowed I'm and wait in line without a ticket.
Cameron Sopsko
A great place to see where our country came to be, where our forefathers sat to write the constitution. They are taking tours, but you have to purchase a ticket for one dollar per person. Your tour will be about 25 minutes, but you learn a lot in that short amount of time. If you’re in Philly you should stop by to see where our country came to be and learn a little.
Wendy Ray
Totally worth seeing where this country got it's start. Had a little problem hearing everything our tour guide said because everyone has to wear a mask inside and it echoes quite a bit in there. Definitely get your tickets online before hand to make sure you can get in.
Andre McMahon
Amazing piece of history right in the center of Philadelphia! Rangers/guides are very helpful and nice! You have to come here when you’re in Philadelphia!
ComradVibes
Very well preserved historic building where the declaration of independence was drafted and signed. The tours are free and the tour guides are very nice and give lots of information. There are only two rooms up for tour the majority of the year but those are the most important rooms in the building. It is definitely a must see for anyone in the area.
Joe Bercik
So much history packed in a small area. Being able to see George Washington's chair and the birth of a nation. It was great.
Terri Thompson (TerriT 3013)
Dave the tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. we love history and it is just the ticket.
Samantha Landzettel
Nothing more amazing then sitting in the same rooms as thr founding fathers!!! Our tour guide was pretty straigh forward and he knew his history!!! Don't skip this gem, especially if you forget where we all started out at!!!
Kelly Peart
We did the tour of Independence Hall twice this week. The first tour guide we had was Barry, and he was incredible. He was knowledgeable, made everyone think, and expressed love of history just by how he spoke. It was a welcome change to some other National Park tour guides. He needs to train the others. The 4 stars is because there were only 2 rooms we were allowed to visit, even though I understand they want to preserve the original flooring on upper floors. We loved visiting Independence hall, we just wish the security and other employees on site seemed nicer, and expressed some appreciation of the cool history there.
Jamie Fry
Truly a national treasure. The historical significance of this place is amazing. The National Park guides were wonderful in sharing information. Lots to see. Lots to learn.
BJ Online
Park rangers were very helpful and had lots of information on the building and its history... A Philly must see
b krmer
Well it is history. Almost all the furniture isn't original for good reason I won't spoil it. Book your tour online it is about 30 minutes total 3 rooms lots of talking by park ranger and your done. Don't miss the dream garden across the street most do go check it out
Anisa G
This is a must see when you go to Philly! It's really cool to be in this historic building where the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence were debated and signed.
Brian Lyster
Get your free tickets from the park ranger for the time you want. Then visit the parks around the area if you have time before your tour starts. Take as many pictures as you can. It's such a well preserved site. Be sure to go on the Congress Building tour too.
Michael Shanken
This is an awesome look into American history. It has a guided tour, tickets are required. Tour guides are very informative. A lot to see on the grounds.
jovihead
Reserve your tickets online for $1. We did that, and upon entry no one asked to check for tickets. So maybe you just need to be confident and make it through the screening checkpoint at the time of a tour?
Kerry Smialek
Great ! We entered the independence hall and the tour guides were very informative and made the complex history easy to understand!!
Bonnie Robinson
This is a must see for any history lover. A free timed entry ticket is required for this half hour tour. A park ranger takes you inside two rooms to deliver a history lesson on the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. If you have children, ask the park rangers about Liberty Trading Cards.
Adam Davis
Smaller then we thought it would be, but being in the same room that the Declaration of Independence & the Constitution were signed was pretty awesome.
Alpha Systems
To learn about the independence era and the constitution. Quick and crisp run-up to the start of the brief intro of Mattoon building and their thoughts.
Tom Bostic
Such an awesome experience, very moving. Make sure to get the needed tickets to enter, and be prepared for security checks.
Mary Evans
Well trained tour guides. Felt very involved in American history.
Peter Morello
So amazing to be in the rooms where our country was built. The printed copy of the declaration of independence on display is older than the one in DC! Truly Awesome!
Jenn E
A true piece of Americana. Had to visit Independence Hall on our trip to Philadelphia. Booked a reservation early which I highly recommend. Tour guides were immensely informative and engaging which made it all the better. Fantastic architecture, rich history, it is definitely worth stopping in. Tour wasn't more than half an hour. *Side note it's air-conditioned which is a total win if you're there on a super humid disgusting day*
Prajna Shenoy
Had a great tour of this historical landmark, thanks to the rangers who are very friendly and knowledgeable. The landmark and the surrounding area is so well maintained. The tickets are free, however get early to avoid crowd.
Benjamin Sommer
Super historic building with tons of history. Tour was just the right amount of time. Overall great experience. 5 stars.
April Wheeler Ruhland
Fantastic! Tip: reserve your tix in advance. We did not and they were sold out by the time we got there. Even without the tour though, there is still lots to see!
Brenda
Another one of my bucket list items. I always wanted to visit the birthplace of our country. The buildings are historically beautiful and there is much to see directly in this area.
Ajith Rajeswari
The guides for the independence hall and the Senate hall was very knowledgeable, the story telling was awesome, reservation recommended as the tour has limited slots, only 1$ to reserve, you can ask any park agent for the meetup location
Rick Bame
Excellent guide I had. Lots of history here. A must see if you are in Philly.
Norman Tweet
Yep, this is where the Declaration of Independence was signed! Every American should visit this place at least once to experience what happened here.
Definitely get tickets during tourist season as it can be packed. There aren't as many people if you go in winter, like I did. Still, probably worth it to get a ticket and plan your visit. Also be prepared to go through security. Basically try to minimize the amount of metal you bring and be ready to take your gear off if it's cold out.
You enter as part of a group with a guide explaining the history of the building and what happened in each room. The your takes about 20 minutes altogether.
Damir Tadić
🇺🇸birthplace - The Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed in this historic building …
Wayne Wilkinson
What an incredible experience especially considering the true nature of the building and what it meant for the country.
Let's face it, where ever they'd written the constitution would be historic, but the fact is it was here. It costs nothing but a short walk and some time to get the tickets (they are free) but required for the tour.
You get to stand where George Washington stood. How cool is that. Out in front there are plaques depicting where Lincoln and JFK stood as well.
The Park Service has done a wonderful job preserving and presenting this little piece of our history.
If you find yourself in Philadelphia and.not sure what to do, may I recommend this little nugget.
Ross Lewis
A must see attraction if you're in Philly and interested at all in history. The National Parks Guides provide a nice overview of the key points, while keeping it brief enough that you can bring your kids through. Check the National Parks website for changes to ticketing policy or tour sizes.
Md Nafiul Alam Nipu
Went there during holiday. Didn’t get the chance to go inside. Parking in Philadelphia is a nightmare. I would suggest to go there early to find a parking spot.
Nick Yates
Great value attraction, with friendly and knowledgeable tour guides. Really interesting stories behind the rooms.
The reason it isn't 5 stars is because of the unbelievably rude security staff. I understand that it's an important stage, but being treated like cattle and criminals at the checkpoint wasn't appreciated. A bit of friendliness would have started this visit on a much nicer note.
Ha Nguyen
The wait was not long. There is a free guided tour (15-20 mins long). It s neat bc it is right across from the Liberty Bell. The last tour is at 4:45 pm.
engels 1920
Great Tour. worth going to! It costs us $1 per person when booking online. It was 20 minutes tour. Tour gave us lots of important information. Photographs are allowed. Well preserved place.
Aaron M. May
This is hallowed ground. It is Independence Hall. Formal birthplace of The Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. Both documents would catapult change in human history. This building housed the meetings, discussions, and votes which lead to forging of these important documents.
Not only is this building hallowed ground, it is clean too. The grounds are kept very well and security is tight. The tour is free, make sure to get your tickets early, I hear they run out and are hard to get. We just happened to bump into a staff member who told us this and rushed us down the street to collect the last two tickets for the day.
Expect the tour to take about 15 minutes. It is less of a tour and more of a presentation. Two presentations to be exact. One in the courtroom and the other in the actual hall which the Continental Congress met. The architecture is beautiful. According to staff most of the original materials and design is preserved.
All in all, this is a worthy place to visit. I’m glad we did. The staff was accommodating and I learned a lot. Honestly, it is an inspiring place to visit.
Tiff Travelstheworld
Amazing preservation of history. Knowledgable folks on site. Enjoyed seeing the past in the present!
Dhruv Patel
This is an amazing place to visit if you’re in Philadelphia. We arrived late so didn’t get a chance to get in.
Máximo Coeli
Very interesting.
It's important to get the admission ticket in advance so you can go and take the guided tours.
The tours are guided by US rangers that know a lot about history and are eager to help.
Tony Powers
Wonderful history and beautiful buildings. Easy to get into and what an adventure. That close to the liberty bell and great pictures. And don't forget to ask any question very knowledgeable personnel all through these buildings.
Nigel Walsh
Loved this place and our guide was energetic, passionate and enlightening. Loved every second of it
Craig Kirsner, MBA
This is an amazing piece of history and the buildings are perfectly symmetrical which I love! Ha
Kolby Hadden
We had a great time visiting the literal site of our nation’s independence! The staff was phenomenal and the individuals that presented were well spoken, passionate, and thorough in their explanations. They were extremely knowledgeable in the history of the location, and some of the artifacts found in the room that weren’t part of the primary presentations. I would LOVE to visit again and spend a little more time exploring our history.
J Brady
So much history! Plan you visit to be there on the hour and listen to the tolling of the tower bell.

Independence Hall In Philadelphia. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin… signed on the paper 246 years ago in this room. Let’s not forget the spirits of founding fathers of this land of promise. Unalienable rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, come with a cost.
Francisco Nogueras
Wonderful tour!!! Our guide,. Savannah, did a great job presenting. She's very approachable and knowledgeable. Tickets are required and cost $1 each to reserve online
Matthew Henderson
It looked pretty cool! Glad we got to see it!
Jan Czarnecki
It was a thrill to get a competent guided tour to the halls where the US Constitution was born. We enjoyed also the tour to the first House of Congress nearby. A must-see when visiting Philadelphia!
John Junge
Park personal are great to inform you of the events that happened.
limitbreak84
Beautiful grounds, will be back to attend the tour
Donna Fortune
Memorable. We had a great tour guide
David Lawrence Scuderi
The birthplace of the United States. The tour is free. Normally you have to reserve your ticket on line, with a $1 service fee for the ticket.
Since I was there on a wet November day, at the visitor center, the National Parks Service gave me my ticket for free.
The Parks Department does NOT keep the $1 fee, that is for the online company issuing the ticket.

This is one of my favorite historical things that I’ve done in the states and the top thing to see if you’re in the city of brotherly love. The Park Rangers offered a great tour and they gave us a lot of perspective on the history of the building and of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The building itself is very beautiful and is very well preserved. A tip would be to make sure you get there early so you can be able to secure a ticket or a place in line as they do get very long. But besides that it is well worth seeing.
Kelley Zamzow
Quick two room tour in order to get inside independence hall. Must buy tickets and be there 20 to 30 mins prior to entry time. Security line with metall detectors is to the left of Independence Hall.
Pasha
Fantastic experience, with a knowledgeable and passionate host👍🏻 U.S.A. 🇺🇸🙌🏻
Cosita Linda
Great historic building about our country
Madison Lombardo
Some much fum and so beautiful! Shout out to the amazing park rangers that made sure all of our questions were answered! What a fantastic example of preservation!
Bonnie
It's free entrance. The ranger who gave us the tour did a marvelous job. He gave a very enjoyable American history lesson. The youngsters probably would learn a lot from this short time tour than sitting through their entire history class. I sure did learn something. It was nice to walk through the rest of the facilities too.
Lisa S
I had such a great tour when I came here back in August. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The landmark and the surrounding area is so well maintained. The tickets are free so it is well worth the wait in line across the street at the Independence Visitor Center.
Kyle Riesner
The birthplace of this great nation! The building excellently maintained considering its age. It is free to get a tour! However, they distribute tickets at Independence visitor center 2 blocks north and could potentially run out of tickets for tours before the day is done. The tour guides were fantastic in explaining what would be happening in each room.
Aerielle Downey
This was a wonderful experience. The tour guide, Larry, was knowledgeable and engaging. You can feel the history, it gave me chills! The free ticket system assigns you a time so you don't need to wait forever in a long line to get in. The architecture is beautiful and the story is deeply rooted in American history. Highly recommend.
Guy Sykes
A great and important place where a lot of the political history of what would become the United States when it was the Pennsylvania State House and where the first Congress met after becoming the United States. The Court met here for both the revolutionaries and the British depending on who held the city during the 1770's. The second floor was a British hospital for American soldiers for awhile. The Assembly Room saw the signing of both the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. The same silver service was used for both and is on display along with some original documents including the final draft and Washington's copy of the Constitution. The docents are a wealth of historical information they pass on a lot in a short period of time. A tour only takes an hour or so and tickets are free. They can be obtained at the ranger desk in the Visitor Center on a first come first served basis. It opens at 8:30 but the line starts forming at 8:15 or so and is a couple hundred long by the time the door opens. Tickets are available for all entry times during the day but the first two at 9:00 and 9:20 seem to be the least busy.
Robin Faehnle
Be still my heart this is an amazing experience! If you love your country and its history, you must go to Independence Hall! Kenny the tour guide did an amazing job walking our tour group through the rich history of the place where our freedoms were born. The inside of the building is 70% original and the outside is 90% original. This is a must see building. It brought tears to my eyes. The building is across the street from the Liberty Bell which is displayed within an arms reach for viewing. It's also a breathtaking piece of iconic history to behold.
Jason Georgacakis
In order to visit Independence Hall you need to either purchase tickets ahead of time online (I think about a week or two prior) or first thing in the morning go to the national Park office across the park Wait in line and get tickets for later that day. When your time comes up you need to enter into the courtyard through security. Give yourself a little bit of time to get through the metal detector so you are not late for your tour. The tour starts with a short oral presentation by a national park ranger, then you move into each of the wings of Independence Hall. The first is where the declaration of Independence was signed and the second is where the Constitution was signed. The tour is excellent and worth the money. Independence Hall is air condition so even on hot days it was very comfortable. The tour will more than likely be full so taking pictures is a little difficult.
Colin Collins
Amazing story to be told here about American history. I felt the tour was well worth the cost. If you have any interest in history you will love the tour. After this head over to City Tavern for a pint that one of our founding fathers would have drank.
JT
Full of history, great place to visit. To bad congress doesn’t have a six year term limit anymore. The tour guide was very detailed with the history of the hall. So much history in this small section of town.
Christina White
Parts of this are free entry, but there is also a tour. Be sure to get tickets before you go thru security if you plan on doing the tour. Beautiful part of history. There are also some brochures in the museum.
Ru Sarina
You feel the importance of this Hall when looking at it just knowing the history that took place in this building and the amazing people who were in it while it was all happening. You have to get free tickets at the tourist info center about a block away or if they run out of tickets then you have to be on standby at 4:30. We were able to go at the 4:30 tour and the National Park Ranger has a great sense of humor and was extremely knowledgeable. He was engaging and went out of the way to engage with children. There is air conditioning only in the briefing room and no air inside the actual Independence Hall. There aren’t any restrooms either. Make sure to get your National Park Book stamped at the gift shop next door. We just started our that day and were very excited about that.
Our Haunted Travels - PANICd
Was not able to get tickets for the tour for the day we had in Philadelphia, we had to chose between Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell due to time. We now know, you need to go early to get tickets. We were able to see outside the building, but will be going back some time to take the tour inside.
RUSSELL HENNINGER SR
This was a dream come true by finally seeing were this document came to be. I could visualize them sitting in their chairs discussing and arguing over the language to be in the document. Very well maintained and cared for and in original condition.
Abi M.
Visited on the 4th of July. It was crowded and had to wait about an hour in line in 90+ degree heat but it was worth it. It is a 15-minute guided tour and they take in 70 people at a time.
It's awesome to be standing in a room about 10 feet away from where the country's founders and the frames of the Constitution sat/stood nearly 250 years ago. Don't miss it!
Cave Arnold
We really enjoyed the tour of independence hall. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly and answered several questions asked. It was a unique experience to walk through the meeting rooms where much of our US founding documents were discussed, written and signed into law.
Jo Claire
The guided tour is really rewarding, particularly if you ask the knowledgeable National Park Service Staff about the Declaration Of Independence and the Constitution. There are multiple versions handwritten by Jefferson, copied by Adams, etc. until printed by Congress. Washington was leading the war effort; Franklin was negotiating the peace with England; Jefferson was in France. Interesting. Very Interesting!

“first thing to see in Philadelphia and YOU MUST KNOW HISTORY BEHIND IT..!!”
For me, it was just a big bell and was not that curious to see it, but in our way, I was googling about it and after reading some articles, excitement of seeing it increased.
I did not face big line, our visit was just for 45 minutes.. but memorable. In the line, you must concentrate on your left side where the timeline of liberty bell is mentioned. though I am not very fond of reading, but I liked it very much.
would like to highlight some facts about this-
1- The Following Bible verse is on the Bell: “” Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Also included is information about the Assembly and the Bell’s maker.
2-Bell had its first crack in 1752 when it was tested on its arrival in Philadelphia.
3-It rang to mark the signing of the Constitution, and the deaths of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson.
4-The bell was originally known as the State House Bell. In the late 1830s, it acquired the name of the Liberty Bell when it became a symbol of the anti-slavery movement.
5-The bell probably didn’t ring on July 4, 1776
6-The Liberty Bell last hit the road in 1915.
Best part is- Its free. Thanks, national park Org for this.
Mark Skinner
Fantastic experience. Make sure to reserve your tour early. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. Very cool to see this landmark of America firsthand. Be advised that there are no restrooms inside once the tour starts. The whole thing probably lasts 30-45 min.
Matt Peppes
This tour was an incredibly humbling experience! We reserved our tickets online for the 9:15am tour so once the visitor’s center opened up, we passed right by the long line of people waiting to get tickets and walked right up to the will-call counter. With tickets in hand, we headed over to the security area, which took about a minute to go through, and proceeded to walk around the South side of Independence Hall until our tour began. Once we went inside, the park ranger gave a really interesting intro speech and then took us over to the hall. We started on the court side which was really great but the most fascinating was the room in which the Declaration of Independence was signed. It was much smaller than I thought but still ran a chill through my body when we walked in. The 30 minutes tour is worth every second!! Once the tour is over, don’t leave just yet. Walk over to the “West Wing” to view original printings of the Declaration and other articles as well as touring the Congress Hall!
Enzo Knapp
Very well preserved and important building. Tours were short, but we'll done and very informative. Definitely worth going, especially since it is free!
Andrew Hjorth
What an experience to see where the original 13 colonies debated and put together the Declaration and Constitution. Great presentation by the tour guide. Very informative and fun
jennifer G
Booked a tour. It was pretty cool, you only visit two rooms which I wasn't expecting but no big deal. The guides are very up beat and informative. Tour lasts about 20 minutes, get a quick history lesson and see some cool artifacts.... some good photo opportunities. Only thing I wasn't super pleased with was security check in, the said get there thirty minutes early, luckily it only took 5-10 minutes to get through but then we were standing in the heat for almost 30 minutes before our tour... Guess I shouldn't complain about them being efficient that day 😁 I'm sure some days the thirty minutes early is a necessity.
Jacob Hershkovich
Important to Americans and civilization. But, America should have made the place more than sober, like Happy. And turn it to a celebrated place. With interactive facilities sorouded by flowers.
Craig Kopra
Sure, it requires (pre-purchased) tickets to see Independence Hall. It is still quite impressive to see the location where history got made. Nearby is the Liberty Bell; Ween stole the fake Liberty Bell in the "Freedom of '76" music video. The free view of Independence Hall is great, but I feel it would be better to see the interior and tour of the building.
Jessica Farnsworth
This is a must if you are in Philly. Like all National Parks, touring Liberty Hall/Independence Hall is free. However, you may have to go straight to the visitor center and get a ticket. This is just to help stagger the amount of people that go on the tour at a time. Our National Park Ranger was very knowledgeable and friendly. Thabk goodness, because the volunteer taking tickets and seating us at the start was very mean and yelled at several visitors. But, I am still going to give it a 5 because you get to see the actual chair George Washington sat in at the birth of our great country!
Alex Mojcher
I was able to get into the park just before closing. The last tour was full and the ranger was rude about it, but it was the end of the day, so I’ll sympathize. Regardless, it was incredible to see such a historic building and imagine our founding fathers walking through the very same doorway I stood in. What an experience.
Chris6d
If you want a real slice of American history, look no further than this place. Bonus points if you do an indoor tour.
Nolan Pierce
I just love going to Independence Hall. If you’re someone who doesn’t love America, you should go visit. It will make you appreciate this country and where we came from. Every time I go, the guides teach me new and interesting things. And it’s free! Or maybe like $1 now or something. It’s just so worth a visit. Plan ahead of time as you just have to reserve your place on a tour.
Jameel Farooqui
Was a good experience. It’s a quick 20 min talk show. They take you to two different rooms and talk history.
Note go to this place like you would to an Airport. The security check is on par with TSA.
Tiffany Gilly-Forrer
Really cool, clean, and well organized historical place to visit! Loved the museum displays and how close we were able to get to the Liberty Bell. Wonderful experience.
G L
Great historical site. Showed up on a Tuesday in September and after getting our tickets we went right in the first tour, there were 7 of us. The first tour, East Wing, can accommodate about 75ish people. It is very short and goes through the court house and the meeting room where the important historical documents were debated and signed. Very cool. Poor funding due to government budget cuts means you cannot visit upstairs in the hall anymore. Very sad. The documents (original copies) are available to be seen without a tour but are inside the security checkpoint. Short tours are still informative and succinct.
Cherie Trail
The park workers/volunteers were so enthusiastic and well informed. They even kept my 7 and 9 year olds attention. Great day!
Carrie Wolford
Admission is $1. Make sure to reserve your tickets in advance through the National Park Service, recreation.gov.
DemonOfD20
I usually dont like learning much about history, but the way the park rangers talk about everything makes history extremely interesting to me at this location. I spent only 2 hours here but i wish i could've spent more time here because i could've sat there listening to the park rangers talk all day long. And the tour of the actual independence hall is short, but enjoyable. I loved it
Alvaro Blazquez
Must visit, especially the free tour. You can book yours online or just go to the visitor center and get a free ticket.
The tour is very good with a very detailed and entertaining account of what happened in this building as well as why it did and its consequences.
Nick
The rangers do a great job of explaining what went on here 200+ years ago. They keep it interesting while keeping the presentation under 30 minutes.
Scott Perdue
The tour is definitely worth it. It’s only $1 and the tour guide was excellent. Supremely historic location.
Steven Hamm
This is a national icon. Rich with history, it stands a the meeting place for the formation of America. Great exhibits and tour. Go early for the full experience. Street and lot parking nearby.
Anthony Bachtiar
Independence Hall.
Independence Hall was built in 1732 and open for the first time in 1753.
This is the place where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.
This building is a witness of Independence Day of US since the day one until now in the long history for 244 years of Independence. (in 4th of July 2020)
This building is now become the centerpiece of the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia.
Visitors could enter this place for free by visiting the Independence Visitor center on the day of coming or book the ticket online with term an administration charge applied.
What you can see in this place is a museum, Independence Hall's Assembly Room, Great Essentials Exhibit in the West Wing, Congress Hall. Old City Hall.
Llorito Castanares Todd
Awesome place to visit vs reading about in books. Everything is well preserved and guarded. A must see if you're in the area.
Ricardo M Gonzalez
A national and historical tresure. If you can get one of the local tours it's worth it. You can reserve it with time and it's a low price.
Rochelle Eastman
Park Rangers at the information center told us how to sign up on-line for the next days tours. Worked well and the tour was excellent. Everyone was very knowledgeable. There is something magical to being in the room where it happened, looking at the same walls and windows realizing that we are still debating states rights vs national rights, the balance of powers, taxing authority, etc. Yet overall, this new system worked.
Brian Fulda
Independence Hall is obviously a huge part of American History. The best part about this place is that it's free. Just as it should be. The National Park Service employees are highly knowledgable and give a great tour of the facilities. This is one of those places you must see if you appreciate history.
Jakob Jones
Our tour guide did a wonderful job. She was very engaging. She taught the principles of law and justice and that law is a contract between a government and it's people which both parties must uphold to maintain stability and the blessings and protections afforded by the law. Too many people today want to live as though there is no law upon them, not realizing the disastrous results such a scenario would bring. They confuse freedom with the ability to do whatever they please without consequence, not realizing the law is what creates, defines, and protects freedom.
My only complaint is they wouldn't let me in the roof to see the mason marked stone where Ben Franklin hid is special glasses. Oh well. 😉
shakira s
The tour guide was probably one the best I’ve had, knew their history and just made the tour more interesting. A lot of people in one group but we were all able to hear and it was fantastic. Humbling experience to see where history was made for our country. It’s free, you can get tickets ahead at the visitor center when you’re in philly. I would recommend coming in the morning. If you are proud to be an American definitely visit this place.
Jacy Guider
The tour guide is beyond amazing. Knew every answer to all the questions we asked. So informative
Jason Andreas
Independence Hall itself is an easy 5 stars, but on both tours that I’ve taken felt incredibly rushed and very topical in detail. It felt more like a cattle drive, quickly moving visitors from one room to the next, talking about the Declaration of Independence and little else. While the tour is free (tickets are given first come, first served at the visitor center) I’d love to see the option to hire a private tour guide or even pay for a longer, more detailed option.
Be sure to stop in the north wing of the Hall after your tour to see original copies of the Declaration as well as the ink well used to sign the document - both very cool, often overlooked exhibits.
Brian Lyster
An interesting landmark where a lot of history was made. Fun place to learn a little history too. Definitely take the tour too understand the significance of the chair image.
Mark Cosgriff
Very well preserved Neat to see but you don't get to see much of it; two rooms. Park staff were great, though. Their presentation are what make the visit worthwhile.
Need reservations well in advance or take your chances waiting in line after 5p.
No drinking fountain or restrooms. Limited places to sit. Very busy/crowded.
Clay Major
One of the most hallowed spaces in the United States, truly takes my breath away to stand in these same rooms where such incredible and important decisions were made.
Kathy Levenick
My daughter used to live in Old City so I have walked by a hundred times and never gone inside. I was surprised to discover that walk-up tickets are free and if you want to reserve in advance, the fee is very low. I loved the tour and our guide was awesome.
Anthony Alvarez
Getting to see where the Supreme Court, the House, and Senate were for 10 years before moving to DC was pretty cool. Being able to sit in the same building as the first congressmen was very cool. Seeing the Senate upstairs with original furniture and seats was also very cool.
Alfonso Cruz
If you love US history this is a definite visit. It's a quick 20min tour but it brings you back how the system was done back then. Bring your kids if you have one so they can marvel this historic site.
SY C
I’m glad I took a tour. The staffs were very knowledgeable and kind.
Donald C.
Detailed guided tour that gave us the history lesson of the significance of this hall, where they adopted the Declaration of Independence and important foundational decisions that were made for this country. Amazing and must visit. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. You get the tickets from the visitors center a block away.
Zona Fortier
Guided tours are free in the evenings. The place is small, so you can get through it quickly. The rangers were the nicest Ive met, and were passionate about preserving the Hall. Clean and neat place!
Joshua Hall
Really cool to see this building in person! Grounds and area are well kept, definitely a high amount of tourists in this area, but that’s a given.
Christa Mason
Live history. It was excellent.
Get tickets ahead of time. We did not but were able to take the after 5 pm tour given in groups of 60. It is a little shorter than the tour, but we were happy to get inside.
Meghan Charochak
Tour is fairly short and is limited to two rooms (one being the Assembly Room) and the hallway that connects them. The tour is led by a member of the National Park Service. Overall, it was very interesting and neat to stand in a place where history was written.
You need to get tickets on advance at recreation.gov. The tickets are available 24 hours in advance and go quickly. Be sure to check what isn't allowed inside so you don't have issues passing through the security screening.
Sue P
A really interesting experience and Congress Hall is part of the same complex so you can do both. You need to pass through airport style security and Independance Hall needs a timed ticket although Congress Hall is join the line. Both have guided tours by a NPS Ranger and they are really good. Would definitely recommend.
Tushar Suradkar
The Independence Hall can be seen from far away from the main street in that area which also hosts the Liberty Bell and can be figured out easily by its signature architecture. There are plenty of hotels and other eateries on the street just outside the hall and plenty of parking on the road side if you are driving by car.
♿️ This place has:

Nicholas Petrillo
Birthplace of America. Can be extremely crowded, especially during the summer, but worth checking out. It's deceptively small and simple. You really get a feel for what the Founding Fathers experienced while giving birth to the nation. Right across the street from the Liberty Bell.
Melissa Bonser
Great brush up on our country's history. You can only get tickets in on the morning of. They are free tickets but to ensure you get them, I recommend arriving at 830am. Do yourself a favor and read the details on their website before you get there. It's a guided tour of I dependance hall, last a about 30 minutes. You are required to go through a airport style security check before entering the area....just keep that in mind as well!
Dan Wilding
To stand in the very room where the Declaration of Independence was penned.... to walk on the very floors where the founding fathers walked, and to be surrounded by the wood trims on which the sounds and voices reverberated is humbling and invigerating at the same time.
Diane Albanese
Must Do This! Especially with children who may begin to understand the significance of THE Room where it happened! The knowledgeable guide reminds us that there would be no USA if this place and the people were not able to decide on a path towards freedom. Breathe in the air and step into a history worth celebrating!
Donna Fernandez
Feel the history of the US when visiting Independence Hall. Pick up free tickets for the tour at the Independence Hall Visitor Center before you go. And, be sure to use the restroom while at the Visitor Center or be prepared to hold it! There are no restrooms at Independence Hall.
Behzad Taimur
Walking through this place is like walking with history. Yes, WITH. They have dressed-up tour guides who happily accompany you, share some tidbits and are happy to answer your questions. Go in and you can see how halls and courtrooms looked some 300 years ago.
Parking is always a challenge in Philadelphia. However, around the Hall parking isn't all that bad. Still, I would recommend you take the subway or hail an Uber. By walking to this place - or most others in Philly - you have the chance of discovering lesser known by pretty amazing historical places.
Isabella Tiger
The place overall is really neat. Seeing the old court and the room where the Declaration of Independence was drafted is great. One of the highlights of my time in Philly.
Ian Elliott
I loved being able to be in and learn about the place where both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were born!
The other buildings were also great to visit, such as where the Congress met while the US government were waiting for Washington DC were being built.
I learned that Pennsylvania wanted to be where the capital was, but the government didn't want to be beholden to any state. That's why DC is it's own district, and not in any state.
Jed Levin
What a fantastic tour. This was my favorite of the tours we did on our recent visit. It was historical, educational and enjoyable. Quite a wonderful way to learn about the formation of our country. Our tour guide was very nice and answered every odd question we had.
Timbo K
Had to get a ticket at a different location. Was inconvenient but it was free. The tour was interesting and the park ranger had a great voice and enthusiasm about the area. It was interesting history even if you don’t like that kind of thing.
Brett Powell
Very well organised and hosted by Parks staff. You need a timed ticket, but this can be collected free from the Independence Visitor Centre. Well worth doing, even if you are an overseas visitor such as I was.
Renee Ethier
We stood in line (in February) for about 1.5 hours, but I think it was worth the wait. It was so cool to see inside Independence Hall and listen to the tour provided by knowledgeable national park service staff.
Faye Cole
Tickets are free, you show up and reserve a time, you explore the park. The tours of the hall and the congress are separate waits. Lovely history here, the guides are very knowledgeable.
Brian Hagan
A must see when in Philadelphia. Be sure to grab your free, timed tickets from the visitor's center just north of here. I would recommend grabbing them early in the morning on busy days. Tours are about 30 minutes in length. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're from out of town, like myself!
Nathan Shobe
I arrived at 4:55pm on a Saturday, got into the second tour after and it was AMAZING. Not too long, and engaging for all ages and all backgrounds.
Jonathan Riger
Absolutely worth a visit if you are in Philly. The tour guides we're passionate an knowledgeable about the location and history of the area. Definitely see the old congressional buildings on the side.
Yang C
A historic place and its free of charge! We followed a guided tour ($0) and it was quite nice. The tour is scheduled every 20-30min or so.
MarQuis Trill

Lotsof history. Free tour. Friendly security. Tour takes 15 minutes. Wait is a little long but the security helps speed things along.
Perrymom
Enjoyed the tour and to learn a bit of history .
Eric Skadson
As a social studies teacher, I cannot recommend visiting this place enough. There is so much history here! The tours are informative, engaging, and free of charge.
Troy Layne
The tour - if you're planning on taking it, you'll need to get your (free) tickets from the Ranger's desk inside the Visitor's building, about a block north of Independence Hall. Tickets generally run out by late morning and, when the visitor center doors open at 8:30am, there's often a lined wrapped around the corner to get in. Point being, if you want to do the tour *get your tickets early*. Once you have your ticket, go to the poorly marked entrance door just east of Independence Hall (corner of S. 5th and Market), go through security, and meet your tour guide, at the scheduled time, behind the Hall's clock tower. It's a bit of trouble to get through, but worth it, just to look into such a historic and revered place.

Independence Hall is the building where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted. It is now the centerpiece of the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The building was completed in 1753 as the colonial legislature (later Pennsylvania State House) for the Province of Pennsylvania and was used in that capacity until the state capital moved to Lancaster in 1799. It became the principal meeting place of the Second Continental Congress from 1775 to 1783 and was the site of the Constitutional Convention in the summer of 1787.
A convention held in Independence Hall in 1915, presided over by former US president William Howard Taft, marked the formal announcement of the formation of the League to Enforce Peace, which led to the League of Nations and eventually the United Nations. The building is part of Independence National Historical Park and is listed as a World Heritage Site..
Avi Masih
Very nice courtyard and historic building where the Constitution of the USA was signed and housed the liberty bell in downtown Philadelphia hours from DC, wonderful history of the nations roots, still in beautiful shape, been here several times and always learn something new and love looking at the building and the bell.
Szabolcs Beki
Exciting free tour. History told in a way like a stand-up comedy. I enjoyed every minutes. Big thanks for the staff.
Luis Gonzalez
The views were stunning and the liberty bell was free of charge, you have to go through security!
Nancy Ricany
Spent the morning in Philadelphia.
The tour of Independence Hall was pleasant and educational. Price was free, so great for a trip on a budget.
Will Brennan
Had an incredible experience as part of a tour group. Such a historical building and you can feel it as soon as you enter. Friendly and informative tour as well!
Independence Hall has been well preserved and I highly recommend visiting and seeing the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence!
Naomi Clowes
The guides inside are quite good, their stories are ready to follow and not dry. It's remarkable what occurred in these buildings. We did wait in line for about half an hour
John Xie
The hall is kept in great condition. As well the tour guides are very well informed and give you a quick and well informed tour. The security is tight but is understandable. However depending on when you go the line may be massive or there may be no line.

If your are traveling during travel season, be aware of the limited tickets they distribute every morning at 8:00. You can also reserve tickets online with just little few.
Sir Owis
This was definitely on my bucket list. Every history nerd needs to stand in the room and wonder at the courage and tenacity of our founding fathers. The NPS guide was amazing job painting a picture of what Independence Hall felt like in 1776.
Timothy Morgan
A great part of American history that is beautiful and surrounded by many great historical pieces. You can spend a solid afternoon in this area. With little to no wait times and free walking around. Can't ask for better than that!
Kaysen Hansen
A very cool experience to see a building with so much history. The tour is free and I'd highly recommend going on one because it was really cool and informative.
Harley Jay
This was an eye opening experience and i believe everyone should go and see where america first began its government. You get to see what it would look like and where historical figures stood to make life changing movements.
Bully Yay
Great piece of history. A must visit. Seeing the room the Declaration of Independence was born is amazing.
Jerry Wauchope
Very interesting tour. Our tour guide, Larry, was very knowledgeable and a good leader. Highly recommend!
Angelique Anderson
To see the place where our founding fathers adopted the documents that define our nation was an incredible experience, one that I have waited for a long time. The building is beautiful and well maintained, furnished with period pieces. Tickets are easily booked online and save the worry of possibly missing a tour the day of since unreserved tickets are first come first served. The tour could have been better, but it was informative and they allowed us time to take pictures as we wanted. A visit I will never forget.
Rudy
Crazy to be able to walk the Halls and rooms that are founding fathers sat in during the most important time of our country's existence.
Frédéric Van Dycke
Very important place that is well preserved. Guides are knowledgeable and motivated to make sure you enjoy the visit.
Edward Nugent
So cool to visit an essential part of our American history. Interesting to see how plain and humble the building was where so many important concepts were brought to life. Park Ranger Evan Shapiro was a wealth of information, which he delivered with clarity, insight, and heartfelt solemnity.
Kathy S
It went smoothly for me on Fri morning. I was there early enough (10-11am) to beat crowds, went to the visitor center, immediately got a free ticket, and went over. They will scan your bag and you have to go through a metal detector. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. The park rangers are friendly and helpful. Wonderful tour!
Arjun Shenoy
Reservation is required. You can get the tickets for $1. They release tickets a day before at 5 pm est. The tour is excellent. Parking is a hassle. Garage parking is around 22$ for 2 hours and 24$ upto 12 hrs. Great historical place to visit. The park ranger is very good and entertaining.
Steve Bressette
Great seeing such a historically significant location. The guides provided lots of great information about the location and historical events. I would recommend taking both tours. The location of the signing requires reservations and an assigned time. The congressional hall is also very interesting and you just need to show up.
Josi Araújo
Good place for have a idea about the city, the American history.
Don’t go by car. Take a Uber or a taxi, parking is really difficult and expensive.
Rich Madhok
Tour was great, it was very detailed and learned lot more than what I could read. Lot of furniture is actual furniture in same layout.
Bina Soni
Loved it. The tour guide did an excellent job of historical explanation.
Ben Richardson
Great history lots of walking
Diego Álvarez
An awesome place, plenty of history.
This is a place that you have to visit it.
Jason Farley
The whole experience is extraordinary. Not super crowded during the week mid afternoon. The park ranger staff were amazing and great to our kids. Remember to book a time online before you go to see everything.
Ben Dukes
closed right now but you can go around the entire perimeter and it's a really beautiful area. Chestnut Street is cobblestone
Fabian Raygosa
Its the place where the documents were signed. Its the very core ou this nation's history. Visit.
Beautiful building.
Karissa R. Samuel
So much history on this tour! The room where the Constitution was written. The storyteller was great and she had the best tiny laugh 🤣 …
Matthew McElroy
I would specifically like to thank Rangers Karpinski and Knight for their insight and enthusiasm today. I took my time asking questions and they were knowledgeable and patient.
The buildings are smaller than you would expect, but kept in excellent condition. The rooms are fairly spartan, befitting buildings meant to adjudicate a government of Quakers, before creating a national government.
My one complaint would be how rushed everyone seems to be, but I think they are trying to make sure everyone has a chance to enjoy the history.
I look forward to returning after Covid and enjoying the monuments at a more leisurely pace.
Steven Castellano
It’s a great living reminder of how our country was formed and the great people who actually walked those streets and worked inside those buildings.
Esq_ to_B
A place everyone needs to go to learn how our country was actually formed vs what the wacked out left wants u to think!
Jerry Mumm
Our tour guide was awesome!! Tickets were $1.
Geoff Smith
I love history, this was a cool spot revealing the foundation of where the United States had originally began its current government style.
Ravi Capeles
A must visit. Get you tickets at the visitors center across the street from the entrance to the liberty bell
Get there early as the tickets run out early. Tickets are free. The ticket office opens at 8:30am. Tours are given every 15 minutes. While you wait go see see pages of the Declaration of Independence, articles of confederation and the U.S. Constitution
Tiffany Rapciewicz
Our family visited for the 1st time. We had a great time learing about our history. We'll definitely be visiting again.
Sarah Carson
As a sucker for guided history tours, I've visited 3 times and enjoyed it every time. Each guide tells a little bit of a different story and very occasionally, you get to go upstairs. Get tickets ahead of time (they're free) if you're going on a weekend or in the summer, because it gets crowded and sells out. Yay history!
David Cannon
How can you explain in a short description of what it's like to be in the exact building where our founding fathers were when they signed the declaration of Independence! The beginning of our great nation. Gives me goosebumps to be standing in the that very room. Amazing! May God continue to bless America.
Stephen Taylor TCSI Music
Such an important historical building that all should visit. The most beautiful architecture and wood work.
Rocky Chopra
Good tour not too long pretty impressive history of the place
Bill Malik
What a great night at the Trump rally on the mall. Everyone was laughing there was a Christian Rock band and people dancing. The Police were out in force making everyone feel safe and doing a great job. It's satisfying to return to where it all started and be able to show support for our President. The only disappointing thing was the people there protesting. Nobody looked happy or was smiling like the people there for Trump. Oh well.
Sasha Strader
Great, knowledgeable tour guides.
The one star off is only because the process to get tickets is a bit convoluted at the moment (reserve your spot online, they aren't offering them on site)
Pamela Lavin
Independence Hall is a great place to learn about colonial, revolutionary, and early American history events.
If you go later in the day, the wait will be less. But if you go early, check out the website. The National Park service offers some great walking tours of Philadelphia.
The upstairs is only open certain times of the year, so if you want to see that you'll need to plan. Otherwise, you can easily drop by whenever you're in Philly.
Pocholo Espina
Wonderful place to be. Lotsa heritage history, and the national park guides are really fantastic and full of energy.
Danny Mike
The birthplace of a new nation. A sweet history lesson for all to listen to.
Got a free tour of the place as well. 👍
Yader Delgado
A must to go for all those who wants to learn about American history and how this country was founded , you can visit the liberty bell national museum which is across the street of the Independence Hall , be ready for long lines and security checks and kids running all over the place specially during field trips.
Lori Smith
Park folks knowledgeable and friendly, security efficient, but kind, tours information and amazing. And all free!! (Picture below shows the side of the hall that faces a park behind it.) Also, "National Treasure" with Nocolas Cage was indeed filmed in part here, and I learned he really did get to remove a brick!
Doug Kahn
We found the tour to be a little short (~15 minutes) although the guide was very informative. The tour takes you through two rooms which our ancestors deliberated on the inner workings of our government. The wait time was not too bad (we went after 5 pm which from 5-7 pm you don't need tickets to access the guided tour). Recommend if you're a history buff in Philadelphia!
Emil S
Short and informative tour. Make reservations on line and get there a little early.
John Nelson
My favorite stop in the city. Historical. Free entry on Presidents’ Day. Once you go through security the guided tour starts every 15 mins and runs for 15 mind. My wait was about 25 mins to get in.
Randal Rogers
Not much to tell anyone about this place except that you have to go. There's nothing like standing in the place if our forefathers. Excellent day.
Robbie Hiltonsmith
Evoked a rare unalloyed feeling of patriotism in me that was welcome. Our tour guide was delightful, showing a real passion for the historic events which took place in the hall without glossing over both the country’s unmet promise and the founders’ flaws.
Andrew (Bruh_moment)
This is a great, historic place to go to! You get to learn a lot about the Declaration of Independence. What's even cooler is that you go to the rooms where everything happened. Plus you get to see the chair that George Washington himself sat in.
Megan Schultz
Reservation is a must or you have to wait til 4:40 pm to get in without a ticket!! We didn't buy tickets online bc it said free place, thinking we can just walk in, but online didn't say anything about allotted amount of people at certain time slots! So pay the money to reserve your spot. Luckily, we were able to get in at 4:20 pm for non ticket holders, (first in line at the 4:40 line, lol!) The 4:40 non ticket line was long!!!
Anyways, AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!! Just being in the same room as all those great founding fathers, seeing the chair George Washington sat in, it's not a fake. I love history. The tour guide knew her stuff too, she was great, I learn new things everyday!
John Hsieh
So much American history in one little area. Across the street is the Independence National Historical Park, where you will probably get the best picture of Independence Hall. You don't actually need to purchase a ticket to enter the area surrounding Independence Hall, you just need to pass through a set of security to the east (near the NE corner of Chestnut and Independence Mall). The ticket only comes into play when you want to enter the actual buildings. The place wasn't too crowded on a weekday around noon, but there were definitely a lot of school children going in and out of the buildings. Finding street parking to get out and walk around is probably the most difficult part about visiting this place. There is a parking lot by the visitor center, but it's a little bit pricey.
Divya Socro
I was personally not a huge fan of this place. It's a fairly small tour and the architecture didn't personally impress me. You do learn the history of the U.S constitution here which was my only highlight.
J C
Great historical site. Very well maintained. You get a sense of presence from over 200 years ago.
C W
Great piece of history, I really wish that I was able to go inside and see everything. I would highly recommend that you visit. We talked with the security personnel and they was very friendly and very helpful.
Marcus Bergdahl
Interesting tour, to see where the declaration of independence were signed
Bruce Hayes
My fifth time with different visitors. Even as an historian, I learn new things every time. Wonderful experience.
Mark
Very quick and efficient lines, free tickets at the visitor center, and a very educational tour. The tour guide was fun and was good at captivating the crowd. Beautiful building, wonderful history, and a memory I will hold dear.
Daniel Niven
Great experience. Friendly staff.
Will Sain
Amazing place to visit for our nation's history. The guides know so much and are truly passionate about they jobs.
Elena Pinilla
Great tours!! The volunteers are lovely and know so much about it! They last 20-30min but they give so much information in a great way!
David Johnson
American as it comes!
#NDSA @DAJ4K
DoomeStrings
The best part of tour is to actually stand where they stood. The display is all replicas which is cool but kinda wish some things survived.
Robbie Robinson
It’s as beautiful as I always remembered. I’m sure it’s a necessity, but I miss the days when you could walk closer to the building without all the gates and added security.
Todd Kevitch (Florida Mortgage Broker)
Took my kids to see where the Constitution was signed. Park rangers were all so friendly and informative, answering any and all questions during our visit. Timed session is about 20 minutes but you can also walk into the other buildings located in the same square. You need to order $1 tickets in advance or wait until after 5pm to see if any tickets are available for the next day.
tom siko
I only got to see the outside due to not getting tickets. Parked in a parking garage not too far away. Breathtaking to see first hand.
Chris Bozer
Great place to visit!
Jaime Caro
A really nice tour thanks to every people who work there
Frank G
Love the tour! Hate the security.. I was prepared for them but they tend to act rude .. as for the tour and building worth the stop ..
Lori Milroy
Ranger dumbed down presentation for kids present and tried to tie in women's suffrage etc. Just tell this great story, with maybe some details that would be new to most visitors
TAC AUGUST
Must visit to all Americans. See where our great nation originated from and the struggles of the founding fathers that paved way to our current laws.
lyle Lyddon
A walk through history
Liz Castillo
Beautiful place full of history. I highly recommend going at least once in your lifetime.
Jamie Jackson
You can feel the history in this place. It's humbling to stand in the presence of where these men decided the future of this country
Shachar Ashkenazi
We really enjoyed our tour in the independence hall!
Kelly Lee
Reservations needed to enter. Same day Reservations are rarely possible.
Nicolas Ortiz
Not only was the tour guide incredibly smart, friendly and charming, but even as a foreign tourist, the experience was both accessible and enriching.
George W
Be sure to check out the hall clock by Thomas stretch. I was amazed by it. The only side I could get into without reservations was congress hall unfortunately but it was still very neat.
John De santis
If you like American history you can't miss this place, here the United States born, when we celebrate the fourth of July we have to know that everything start from here, that's way you can't miss this place, and at least once in the life you have to go and see it. To get in it's free but you have to get the ticket anyway you can get it directly from there but early in the morning Santa Claus number of ticket the first gets there the first get in
E M
A must see and a great tour in Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania State House (aka Independence Hall) is a fine example of the early colonies and the birth of America. Lots of architecture and symbols, and full of history.
Ivy Ruth
Being from California and loves history, this is a good place to see. There are guided tours but need free tickets to join.
Anne Marie Weinkauf
The rangers are so knowledgeable and informative. I am so grateful they are back and on duty. Please restore the water for filling bottles. Not all can afford $$ and more water bottles in trash is not sustainable.
Chris Skrzypchak
Great historical location. Must get tickets before you visit.
Cena Block
The new outdoor exhibit is great. Lots of reading, and traces the real roots of African American history and slavery intertwined with the founding of this nation. Very well done and enlightening.
Donny Wong
Looks just like the building on a $100 bill.
Daniel Claggett
It is really cool seeing this place in person. Be warned weekend are almost guaranteed to be busy. If you visiting on a hot summer day, bring lots of sun screen and water. Area around liberty does not have a lot of shade.
Amy Bankey
A very cool place to visit considering you stand in the same room where George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, etc stood. I would have given five stars, but there were two things that annoyed me.
Everything I read online and in a guide book said to go to the visitor center first thing in the morning to get tickets. We arrived at least a half hour early to try to be first in line. When they opened the doors to the visitor center, the ranger took awhile to get settled at the desk. Finally find out from him that they no longer do tickets at the visitor center, but they do it online and the day is already sold out. Grrr!
Finally got to visit and the ranger that did our tour was super cranky! In fact, we were talking to the random strangers around us and everyone was calling her Ranger Crankypants.
Don Patterson
Closed to visitation, but still offers some exquisite photo opportunities. The park rangers in the area are great at giving extra info and answering questions.
Andrew Ullman
I still can't believe that they had to move the liberty bell out. There is still a tremendous amount of history in there.
Beth McLaughlin
This is a great short tour to see where it all happened. Tickets are required, however if you go after 5 pm it is free with no tickets and lines are much shorter. They run a tour of 70 people every 15 minutes after 5 on the weekends.
Nicole Renee Leone
So cool. Every American should go at some point in their lives
Ryan Olson
I suggest going to Rec.gov to reserve ticket well in advance of your arrival. It will save you a lot of time and stress.
Mike Cee
It's a brief 20 minute tour, basically 2 large rooms but very interesting and the only way you'll get inside. Timed tickets purchased on website, no walkups. Also free ($1 per ticket handling but c'mon)
Electric Redneck
I cannot tell a lie... Ben Franklin flew his kite in this building after his 5th term banquet in the basement... In which he was later buried.
SGMP
Amazing guided tour. So much knowledge on history can be gained. Advance booking is mandatory. All the artefacts are superbly maintained.
Sachin Shrestha
The place closes at 5 so make sure you are there before it. Very important place as both the Declaration of Independence and constitution was adopted here in the hall.
Iza Ayala
Truly amazing. Most of the attractions are free on Presidents Day
Kevin Homan
Was in the area and decided to visit as this is where it pretty much started for the USA. Itis a short tour but interesting. Just be prepared to go through airport like security screening.
They need to do a better job of letting visitors know to purchase tickets in advance and online. So one star subtracted for that.
Rolf Snobeck
The entire area is awesome. Independence Hall. The Liberty Bell. Being is the very place where the most-free ever Government was formed. Take your time, there is lots to see in the area. Some old taverns the reach back to the earliest days of our Republic.
Barbara Lorenzana
The architecture and display of American history is wonderdul and the spirit of the place makes you emotional to know this is the birthplace of America
Roman Reichert
Great tour takes about 20 minutes. The little side museums on the property are also great. There is a security checkpoint to enter.
Jim Chung
Accompanied my classmates back in high school. We soaked up in the historic atmosphere together. LOL
The Critical J
PROS: This is my favorite place in all of Philly to come and see. This is the first capital of the country and it's where you can see the room where the declaration was signed. In another building they have a museum of all things that were relevant during the time. Including the ink well that was used to sign the declaration. They also give you a tour of the whole place
CONS: It not only takes forever to find the entrance to the back of this building, where the tour starts, but once you're there it takes forever for you to go in. Once in, the presentation is just so long
OVERALL: Do not come to Philly and miss this. This is a must see, despite needing to pay a small fee this must be on your go-to list
Joaquin O
This is an amazing site! 20 minute tour covers all questions and information you’ll need for that time period. However, even in frigid temperatures, the lines get long. During February 2022, 17 people are allowed for a tour every 15 minutes. Tickets aren’t required for the winter months, and can get really busy and time-consuming to get there. Overall, inside, it is a majestic historical site!
Luke Matarazzo
A great historical landmark, especially if you can go inside. It isn't much without the historical significance though.
Robert Hendy
A must see for any history nerds visiting Philly! Excellent tour, and the only drawback was the wait to get though security and more waiting to get inside, but that is the society we live in. Very close to the Liberty Bell!
Chelsea Levine
A national landmark. Make sure to buy tickets in advance or get there early. They almost always sell out the tour tickets that let you go inside the room where it happened.
Morgan Clark
Tour was the perfect amount of time! They showed us both rooms and had a brief explanation. Tour guide was plenty loud for the large group and was succinct in what he covered.
Jose Urena
Great place to see some American history. Park rangers here are super knowledgeable and very accommodating.
Englishing With Elizeu (English Teaching)
Fantastic if want to know USA history. I have learned a lot!!
Rob Shearer
Historic place. Great your guides who know their stuff.
John Sorensen
4 stars only because there were no tickets to be had, so we went next door to the little visited Congress Hall, the first congressional meeting place! It was fabulous, historic, a great alternative, and no wait!
Christian Viernes
Independence Hall is located on Chestnut Street, between 5th and 6th Streets. Entrance is through a security screening area on Chestnut Street, just west of 5th Street. After passing through security, visitors line up behind Independence Hall for their timed tour. The GPS address for Independence Hall is 520 Chestnut Street.
Independence Hall is the building where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted. It is now the centerpiece of the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Fernando Yepez
Beautiful place. And all tours are FREE! Just keep in mind that Independence Hall visit is limited to 17 people per tour, so you might have to wait a bit to go in. Liberty Bell exhibition is fabulous! LOVE ❤ PHILADELPHIA
Lara Bucarey
Rangers Lauren and Ray were phenomenal docents: they were extremely knowledgeable and presented the content in a compelling way!
Wrinkled Documents
Absolutely loved the experience to see everything the national parks have to offer in historic downtown Philly. Most exhibits are free. Some may require a reservation for the tour. We were only charged for the Ben Franklin museum. Liberty bell, Ben Franklin, independence hall, etc. All were fantastic and informational.
Sarah Obaidi
Good place to learn about history especially for kids. Come early for tours.
Felipe Rodrigues
This guided tour is fascinating. Even though we get to see only two rooms, the guide was so friendly and gave us an awesome short history class. The whole tour takes about 30 minutes.
You need to reserve tickets online ($1).
Anna E Leary
Wonderful, inexpensive way to spend the day learning about our history! Love the tours!
Katherine Alexander
Wow!! In awe of this place! The Park Rangers we’re so well educated and did such a nice job making this personal. She was able to relate it to modern day and make this so interesting - and helped me with my 2 year old who was starting to get restless by giving him some historical fact cards to capture his attention, and let me out for a moment to calm him, so appreciated! Tour was small sized and free - but book tickets WELL in advance, they go fast! Go next door to Congress Hall, too! If you have a National Parks Passport you can get stamps at the Visitor Center across the way.
Note: there is security/metal detectors that you have to go through to get in, so if you take pictures - don’t hop the chain fence or you’ll have to go back through again.
Edward Kindel
Since moving to the east coast I'm finally catching up on all the history of Philly, never enough time in a day
Amanda Perez
If you'd like the full tour, get to the visitors center early because the tours book up fast for the day. If you do miss getting tickets, you can still see the assembly chambers which was a guided tour for the first half before you could explore on your own upstairs. These are still timed every 20 minutes, but the wait isn't too bad, and it's a cool experience.
Andrew Jump
History and ideas that made a unique experience possible. A government of laws and equal protection under it.
Coty_W
The Rangers are awesome. A great little history lesson and something you have to see in person if you have the chance.
Zachary Ziegler
This is a must stop if you're an early American history buff, or simply would like to learn about the events that occurred there. Walking in the building is seriously breathtaking. To think of the people that walked in and out of the doorway, and to be standing where they were almost 250 years ago is an unmatched experience. I look forward to returning, and would highly recommend for anyone!
Adam S.
If you love American history, you need to come here ASAP.
David Benavides
A great piece of history. Wearing a mask is mandatory. If you forget one, the security guard can provide you one.
Charlie Costello
Such a powerful place. We saw this hall in the movie John Adams and what went on there. Seeing it in person after brought it to life. What an amazing rich history America has.
Wade Bricknell
So interesting, lots of history on the USA, go learn.
It's where it all started. Where the declaration of independence was written and signed. #BuildingANation
SJP2011
Philly is the home of many U.S. firsts but, with no hesitation, this building is top of all of them. Unforgettable place, history and experience.
Jeanette
Staff was informational and engaging. Easy way to kill 30 minutes to learn about the history of the Declaration
Sol Chang
If you like the historic vibe and be in the Halls where the constitution was signed, laws were made, Washington and Adams was sworn in.
Petre Ene
one of the most important places to visit if you love the american revolution.
Danielle S
Very educational. Only takes about 20 min for the tour. We went after 5 and got free admission but had to wait a bit.
Andrea Zaretzki
Beautiful building, full of history... just wish we could have seen the second floor rooms as well. Tour guide was pleasant and informed as well.
Andrew Farquhar
Great tour with an enthusiastic, informative and well versed guide.
Russell Self
Loved the history. Great park. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Julie Butler
The gal who ran our tour was super knowledgeable and very engaging. She clearly loves her job. The Park Service has done a remarkable job preserving the building.
The Park Service might want to consider offering bottled water for sale to those "trapped" in Independence Square waiting for their tour to start since you have to go through a "TSA"-like checkpoint to get in and are not likely to venture back out once you're in.
Daniel Park
USA history #1 place
I have family went to here leaning knowing America history
But I had ticket park vacation $79
Jonathan Holland
Such a great experience seeing where the heated debates and the momentous decision to fight for our independence was hammered out.
Anthony Powiliatis
Such a cool piece of history and I enjoyed the quick tours. I especially love FREE tours, whoop whoop!
Christina Papadopoulos
Waited 20 minutes for security for a 20 minute tour. It was short and sweet.
Teresa Price
An amazing once in a lifetime experience. The Park Rangers were very friendly and our Tour Guide was knowledgeable and funny.
Chris
We reserved our tickets for the tour ahead of time and were able to get right in. The guide from the National Park Service was great and presented all the history in a great way.
Andrew H
The birthplace of America, how could this not be 5 stars?
The Park Rangers are super friendly and knowledgeable. This is what we pay taxes for.
K O'D
If you visit Philadelphia, you absolutely must go to Independence Hall & do a tour.
Lucas Wiseman
A great piece of history not to be missed. Be sure to secure tickets online to be guaranteed a chance to get inside.
Adam Perrine
Breathless to visit. Liberty was made here!
David Dorsey
Tour was informative. Visitor's Center was a good place to get oriented.
Umesh Jayamohan
Great tours here. Excellent staff.
Pete Joseph
We had a great tour with Lauren as our guide. She was super knowledgeable and shared all sorts of details with us. Security staff was friendly!
Jack Melvin
Plan ahead, make sure you get tickets at 5:00 p.m. the day before. Otherwise, the rangers are great with awesome information. Seriously, this is where our country started.
Mordechai Gabay
A must visit for every American! This lovely piece of history takes you back to the foundation of this country. I highly recommend taking the tour and see the whole place. The guides are very nice and will take the time to explain everything or answer any questions.
Can get pretty crowded on weekends and holidays.
Chris Shay
Feel at one with the past! Standing in the room where it happened will really make you think about the changing times, and the power of the written word. Those scribbles were very carefully crafted, every letter argued & meaning agreed upon by educated, informed men of the times. It is fortunate that their words, as well as the building in which this momentous accomplishment took place, have been preserved. Walk around the building, imagine taking the exact same path that Benjamin Franklin, or George Washington took, as they strode up to the magnificent doorway into Independence Hall. Can you see it, can you feel it?
KWB
Great weather. Bright son. The most beautiful woman in the world, my wife. , masked and respecting life. Great cup of coffee. A nice bench in a great city. We sat on the mall in front enjoying people ebbing and respecting life.
Dean Martin
so much cool and interesting history here.
Dave Duncan
Tickets are free but you should get them early. They are available online for a small service fee.
Jay Bean
a fun experience with my wife and her cousins visiting the great historical sites around the area. The guides and staff were very friendly and knowledgeable
Brian Newman
It was pretty amazing to come here to see the history that is this building.
Cassandra Schutte
Beautiful! Nearly 300 years of history! The Park Rangers do a fantastic job of explaining how the Old State House worked in the 18th century. Timed tickets are necessary for entry. $1/ticket reserved online ensures you get your spot. Money WELL spent in my book. 😊 …
William Jones
Truly a great historical experience. I wish our national leadership would pay closer attention to past events that created our great country.
Alex Dudkin
IF YOURE PLANNING ON GOING ON A MAJOR HOLIDAY LIKE PRESIDENTS WEEK BUY TICKETS. Really beautiful building with so much history. Definitely worth a visit at least once in your life!
Nuno Matos
Got lucky and it was free, small tour with only two rooms, but still a good piece of history
Kevin LaShure
The feeling of being in a place like this is uncomprehending. By far a must see attraction in town.
William Phelps
You have to jump through hoops to see the Capitol building in DC but this place was the original capitol building, and it's easy to get tickets for the tour.
Alexandra Dadio
Very informative tour and tour guide was great. Tour guide was very friendly and answered questions well and with a great deal of enthusiasm.. Only complaint was the guy at the entrance gate who barked at us that we were late ( we weren't...we were five minutes early). Started the tour off on a bad vibe.
Melanie Leiterman
Nice quick tour. Tour guide was helpful, informative and made the tour enjoyable. The tour lasted about 20 minutes and security was fast to get through. Pleasantly surprised that the building was air conditioned.
Carol Quezada Olivo
We weren't able to go into the your of independence hall, but we did get to go to the free tour of Congress hall. It was a short informational session where you seat in the Congress seats. Great for a quick history lesson.
JRod Shredder
I walked past it twice because I imagined like a "national mall" type thing out front but it's cozied all up in those city blocks. I'm very American more than the average American so I got more out of it. The ghost of Ben Franklin told me "don't go out and drink tonight", so I didn't. He has a big scary bust that's 10 ft tall. A great man? Maybe. A sure man...absolutely.
Monica Lee
I mean 1. it is Philly and 2. a place of our Nations history... a must see for any traveler
Illiany M
I LOVE history and was so excited to visit this place! It’s pretty amazing to stand in the place where our country stared. Staff was very nice and willing to answer questions. Tours are also free!
Christopher Rivera
Amazing experience amazing history. Great place for family to visit. The city was great and the people are great!
terry pernsteiner
A must for all to visit to feel the presence of the birth of a free society. Flawed but willing.

Independence Hall is a historic civic building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in which both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted by America's Founding Fathers. The structure forms the centerpiece of the Independence National Historical Park and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sign up for the tour in advance on line. Important Information first. The tour was really nice with the Rangers doing a real great job at delivering a lot of history in a digestible 20 minutes of time.

I cannot believe that at one point in history this building was intended to be demolished. I am so glad that the building where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed still stands today. The tour was very informative linking the past with the present.

You need to buy to let’s in order to go to all buildings. We went there with no tickets and we were able to go just to the building the the Declaration of Independence.

The tour itself is well-done, if very brief - they allow picture taking...They do a great job managing the number of folk on each tour (50 each time) and you must have a ticket for the specific date and time you wish to go through. The guide was knowledgeable and professional but it was hard to hear sometimes as another group and guide were across the OPEN hallway.

Wow just breathe taking all our history in this beautiful historical original building. If you love this country you have visit where it all started.

A must see. Where the US was born

Waited 40min. They only take in groups of 20 and thus we had to wait another 20min. However, the park ranger was so knowledgeable that she kept us entertained with answering our questions. She was better than the tour itself!

20 min tour. You have to sign up in advance. They charge a 1 dollar booking fee. Tours are interesting. Will have to stand the whole time though. No seats. Great air conditioning.
Madeline Fleming
Make sure to have your free ticket to get into some of the tours. You can get into most tours without a ticket but some are required. There is a security line so make sure to allow time for that.

Fascinating and beautiful as a structure in its own right, the history makes it all the more fascinating. Great rangers make great parks, and the interpretation/tour at this site is top-notch (and not too long either)!

Had a great time here. Park staff was awesome along with the park rangers. Love walking around before the tour.

Really awesome historical place in a busy but beautiful spot in the city! We snagged early tickets online which avoided the line for waiting for the tickets the day of (cost a dollar for ordering online). We were able to do the main tour then went and checked out the other two parts which is the signing room and Congress Hall. The four guides were friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely enjoyed visiting and learning more about the country.

Very informative tour! The rangers were very knowledgeable. Going online in advance to reserve a tour timeslot ($1 each) is highly recommended. Limited numbers of same day free tickets are available, but go quickly!

Ray Harshbarger was our guide at Independence Hall and he was amazing. We took the tour of the building offered through the parks service. Be sure to get a ticket early. It's worth the $1 to reserve in advance.

For walk-up tickets:
Tickets begin to get issued at 8:30am and run out quickly. I arrived at around 7:45am on a Thursday to find that a line had already formed. Tours run every 15 minutes starting at 9:00am, and I got into the 9:15am tour. Fascinating tour by knowledgeable NPS guides. Immediately following this I did the free Congress Hall tour next door - also fantastic.

The Independence Hall needs no further description. If you're the least interested in American history, a visit to Independence Hall is a must.

I wasn’t able to go inside, but just being in the presence of a piece of American history like this from the street is an amazing feeling. It’s very well maintained, clean and easy to see. I definitely recommend taking a trip to see because it’s surrounded by many other historical places.

Birthplace of the greatest nation, how can you not give it a good rating? Great tours, helpful people, and it's free.

Visited this place today on the independence day!!!
This was crowded and independence day program started @10.30am.
Everybody including kids enjoyed the time there.
This was again around 15 mins walk from city hall and very next to liberty bell.

Didn’t realize I needed a ticket to go inside, but I was thankful the visitor center had extras.

My son used the actual key to the door of Independence Hall and then was allowed to touch, yes touch, the Liberty Bell. Great day. Great experience. Great America.
