Reviews of Williamsburg Bridge
Naomi B Smith
The New York Williamsburg Bridge is a remarkable bridge with beautiful views of the city. It is a vital transportation link for the people of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The bridge is well-maintained, and its iconic design makes it stand out from other bridges in the area. Crossing the bridge is a great way to experience the city's skyline and its bustling energy. Overall, the New York Williamsburg Bridge is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting New York City.
Sandra Chan
I’ve walked across this bridge on two visits to New York. It’s longer than Manhattan or Brooklyn Bridges, but a nice walk. I like the pink colour and that it isn’t as noisy (from trains) as the Manhattan. It’s too bad that there’s so much graffiti! There isn’t much on the Williamsburg side, though; not unless you keep walking.
Rolf Shmidt
Another cool bridge to walk on . This bridge, built in 1903, was almost entirely rebuilt in the 1990s due to its state of advanced disrepair, I enjoy watching the trains pass below the pedestrian walkway.
Victor Wang
Great bridge to take a leisure bike ride from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Wide dedicated bike and pedestrian lanes elevated above the car traffic, relatively little foot/bike traffic makes this much more relaxing compared to the Brooklyn bridge or the narrow Manhattan bridge. Not the best for picture taking since the safety cage surrounding the bridge is quite dense but take in the views and enjoy.
mr grissom
Walked across the bridge a few times, down to Williamsburg. Fantastic area to explore graffiti everywhere, but ya know what i think it adds to the area you can see the old new york areas.
Justin Space
Great Bridge. Lot of garbage in the middle section with only one trash bin present. Hope they would solve that problem. Other than that, this might be my favorite bridge.
Yanou Ramon
I liked crossing this bridge, going from Williamsburg to Chinatown in about 20-30minutes. The view was amazing, and I liked the vibe on the bridge (it's all pink, there's lots of graffiti everywhere...).
Anthony Le
Fun bridge walk! It might not be as picturesque as the Brooklyn Bridge, but it’s far less crowded and after the first stretch, the bike and pedestrian lanes are completely separated which is nice.
R C
I love walking over this bridge. Never to crowded and you get some good views too. Also it leads to Williamsburg.
THE URBAN MIXOLOGIST
Well lit and dedicated lanes for walking and biking, Very easy to walk and some great views.
Viajando con Mercedes
We rent a bike 🚴 to cross the bridge the city bike is very convenient and affordable, we rent the electric one and is so much easier to use, after crossing the bridge we went to take pics at Dumbo, Brooklyn and eat some ice cream 🍦. We take and amazing pictures and videos. …
Tilman Benecke
I crossed this bridge hundreds of times but never got sore legs. The view of Manhattan is so overwhelming that you can walk on your hands and catch flies with your buttocks. The stone bridge is now part of the old iron, but maybe that's exactly why it is so nice to climb on it.
Charles Hanna
I enjoyed walking underneath ,it's very fun for also riding a bicycle and u can take the cruise which take u to see the statue of Liberty !!! Very nice and peaceful place a bit outside the city u can enjoy the beach and bridges view with the helicopter and cruises tours which is moving on all day, one of nice place which ull enjoy walking in Newyork beside having nice shots [Pictures]

This bridge is a fun walk, but an even better bike ride! It’s my favorite bridge to ride over. If you’re looking for something to do when visiting NYC, definitely enjoy the views all the bridges provide! Totally explore the boroughs on a bike though 🚴🏼♂️🚴🏽🚴♀️ …
Jeriel Nunez
Absolutely love this bridge, it’s a decent walk that goes from Manhattan to Brooklyn. The views are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is second to none.
Chia-Yi Cheng
This bridge connects Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Lower East Side, Manhattan near Essex market. The midtown view is better at the North side which is the bike lane. The downtown view at the South side pedestrian walk is not as good as Manhattan or Brooklyn bridge. In addition, the fence is tall and distant from the walk so it isn't straightforward to take pictures without the fence. Having said that this is definitely a worthy spot for locals and travlers. It's adjacent to Domino Park and a vibrant neighborhood in the Brooklyn side which would add a lot of fun to the walk.
G. Lee
Pretty authentic food. Their service is great. I would say it is very touristy due to the location but their soup dishes are pretty decent you can find in Manhattan.
sandy sleppin
The Williamsburg Bridge is special and has a way about it.It has a history of its own and that I worked on Broadway. & Canal street I drove over it for 25 years. Two lanes on the inside and two on the outer side going both ways.It was something I had to start photographing. Then they started on rebuilding it and I was allowed by the DOT join the 200 worker and take photos of them .It was amazing and I used my Nikon 35 mm to capture it.I took my work to the NY. Post and made a story that was printed in the Sunday paper.A landmark in NYC and please take a walk, bike, train or car over it and feel it's history.
Rob Jelinski
The Williamsburg Bridge is perfect for a photoshoot! With its warm red steal walkway, it makes for very unique photos. The bridge also offers great views of Manhattan and interesting dark gray towers. Subway lines also run over this structure which again make for amazing photos.
stephen davis
Totally different experience than the Brooklyn bridge. Less crowded walkway on one side with a bike path on the other side. When at the center of the bridge there is a walkway so you can see the view up River. From here you can also view the subway trains in both directions. The only downside is the steel gage which runs throughout the bridge, kinda gets in the way when taking photos.
Samuel Hougie
Great bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, conveniently connecting Williamsburg and Lower Manhattan. It’s not too crowded, but at the same time you’re a stone’s throw away from packed subway trains and a stream of motor vehicles. Beautiful views of the skyline as well, with the graffiti adding a distinct visual flourish as you make your away across.
Emil Luk
Great for walking and an absolute joy to Bike on. If biking, be careful near the entrance and exit ramps as you can easily build a good amount of speed on the downhill bits.
Dejan Braki
Third in a row across the East river, Williamsburg bridge connects Queens and Manhattan. It's an awesome steel structure and another famous bridge in NYC.
It's way less crowded than Brooklyn bridge.
Kai Kalino
Classic and a must visit. Bring a blanket or a towel and you can chill around the lawn no problem. It’s perfect for golden hour. The DUMBO market is just a few minutes walk so you don’t have to worry about walking too far out for food and refreshments.
kitsand
Great bridge to walk over. A lot less crowded than the Brooklyn Bridge and has terrible views.
Christopher Eu
Its a bridge. You can walk, cycle, drive or take the train off of it. Functions perfectly well as a bridge. Traffic sucks around rush hour, and they’ve been doing work on it forever. Good bridge.
Andrew Isted
Its an amazing piece of engineering! 6 lanes of traffic, 2 train lines and 2 walkways! Granted the view are a little obstructed at times but still impressive.
Billy C.
I did virtual 5k run on the Williamsburg bridge this past Wednesday the 21st.
Mimi Wahinee
This bridge is definitely a lot less crowded than the Brooklyn Bridge and with reasons. However, the view is still very nice. The subway can be loud when it comes by but it doesn't last. It is not an unobstructed view but it is still very beautiful.
Cafe Oliver
New York is a place of pretty bridges and busy people. This bridge has both and it's a wonderful place for an afternoon walkabout. Would recommend to bridge enthusiasts.
Sunil Agarwal
It is one of the several bridges which connect Brooklyn to Manhattan in New York City. It is quite old but well maintained and besides transporting automobiles and trains it is popular with pedestrians and cyclists too. However, Brooklyn bridge which is visible from this area is a more popular tourist destination. A new park Domino park has come up near Williamsburg Bridge which is quite popular with the locals. Lot of adfilm and pre-wedding photo shoots take place in the vicinity of the bridge.
Ark M (Mushedroom's Toy Box)
if you visit NYC you have to walk the Williamsburg bridge!!! after leaving manhattan we walked back to our hotel in brooklyn and this bridge was AMAZING!!! A DEFINITE MUST SEE... p.s. THERE ARE NO RESTAURANTS OR FOOD LOCATIONS ON THIS BRIDGE so if you see reviews talking about food on this bridge, those reviewers are INCORRECT... this is just a bridge lol
Sabrina Paez-Parent
The bridge is not nearly as crowded as the Brooklyn bridge but still has its own lovely charm.
The graffiti and faded red paint along with the parallel metal structures of the bridge make for great pictures and a lovely walk.
The bridge starts and ends as a shared walkway for runners, walkers and bikers but diverges into two lanes separated by the train for bikers on one side.
Brendan O
Can't speak for drivers but this bridge has a separated bike and pedestrian path (except for ramp on the Manhattan side of the bridge) that provides great views. Definitely worth wondering across into Williamsburg for the day.
Erik Meres
Great bridge to walk or bike over. Spectacular views of lower and midtown Manhattan. And great views of east river. So whether by bike, train, car or foot u can make it across the Williamsburg bridge. From Lower Manhattan to Williamsburg or Williamsburg to the LES, just like that.
Mike Rider
First bike ride on this bridge after being in the city more than 20 times, love this bridge, perfect spots to stop and just chill. Great views.
markusdude1
Great for walking on, but terrible for driving on. The lanes are STUPIDLY narrow with little to no clear markings. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but I don't feel safe driving on it.
Mikko Stout
Nice walk from Williamsburg to Manhattan providing great scenic views. I recommend it if you have an hour to spare, and you avoid the evening pedestrian crowds on the Brooklyn Bridge.
Annmarie Rousseaux
Can’t beat this view! Very easy to walk and bike across the bridge. For the best views, make sure to go to Domino Park if you’re in Williamsburg :)
Gordon Fisher
Thank The Good Lord Jesus for another day.
The williamsburg bridge decent bridge but all depends what time you want to cross my opinion is don't cross the bridge late.
Jesus Loves You ❤ John 3:16

Williamsburg bridge is one of the best bridges for a nice well interval run, jog or walk. No cars. Beautiful views of east river. Once you cross over you're right in center of Williamsburg's great to grab a coffee or lunch. On way back to city get that final push to bring you home. The bridge itself is a little over a mile in length so it's a great warmup run or morning / evening run if you only want to run across and back. Highly recommend. Safe and well lit.
V Lee
A stellar bridge that does a fine job of connecting two bits of land. I can’t speak to the driving conditions but as a cyclist, this is easily the best bridge to get between Manhattan to Brooklyn. The cycling path is very wide and separate from the walking path so there’s no need to weave through pedestrians. It is also very smoothly paved, as opposed to other bridges which have more of a sidewalk-style paving with bumpy cracks between each slab.
There are great views of the skylines on either side and graffiti covering nearly every surface of the pavement which can make for some interesting finds while cruising through.
GSTonyTseng
The first time walking on the Williamsburg Bridge, compared with Brooklyn bridge, not many ppl walking on this street, and could very close to see the subway across the street, and they separate the bike road and sidewalk. nice design
Iandiny Teixeira
The views to the city from this bridge is amazing.
Martin Severens
I crossed the bridge so many times with my motorcycle in the past 8 years .
But recently I was watching around more accurately, and I have to say that the landscape is so beautiful especially on the way for Manhattan.
Every one who visit NEW YORK CITY or Brooklyn, please check around you will find something unforgettable..
Jeffrey Usher
It is a nice bridge. Overall it does provide good enough space between bikes and people. The entrance for people to walk the bridge coming from Brooklyn is on Bedford Ave between South 6 and 5 street. Right in the middle of the block.
Jose R Lopez
The good old Williamsburg Bridge to get over to downtown Manhattan area, either by J, M and Z train line, car, bus, use the bike lane or walk over. When your across, your walking distance to China Town and Little Italy areas. It's a few minutes walk but you will be ok. As soon as your over, there's a few shopping and eating businesses.
My reason for taking away a star is due to the rush hour time between 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm, get ready to wait in traffic. The bridge has gotten a make over on car lane, paint job with added bike lanes and was updates a few years back, it added some class back to the bridge.
On the Brooklyn side your close to a few nice parks and areas that have been updated to bring out the family, friends and loved ones. You have good places to eat at like Giando by the water, Patrizia's, Peter Luger steak house and a few other.
Elba Leon
I love to use my bicycle on this bridge so much but it’s very steep so be very careful if you still don’t know how to ride your bike properly you might hurt yourself and others.
Harsh Patel
If you’re going for that “gritty New York City” feel, head to the pedestrian walkway of the Williamsburg Bridge. With its colorful beams, graffiti tags, and the constant movement of trains that run by, you’re almost guaranteed a great shot. Shoot after dusk to capture the contrast of Manhattan’s electric lights against the sky...!!
D J
It's a bridge, it does it's job really well. Looks kind of cool while doing it also. It has gotten me over some rough waters many times. Thank you Williamsburg Bridge, I couldn't get home without you.
Ben Brill
The outer roadway provides the best views of manhattan skyline. Amazing bridge that supports pedestrians as well as cars and trains. Toll free span connecting williamsburg BK and the city.
KJY F
Good for bikes and walking, but some of the car lanes are really narrow.
Carlos R. Chavez
Did you know: Built in 1903, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time at over 1000 feet long (a title previously held by the Brooklyn Bridge).
Josh Soto
Great balance between cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles. One of the safest bridges, with a design that truly stands out.
是欣动啊
Great place but the bike lane is under a lot of stress
Cédric
Lovely scenery from the outdoor Subway to the skyline of Manhattan
A L
What's not to love about this bridge. It's safer than it was in the 80s and 90s, and it's a favorite running route.
Brandon Nadeau
It was a great night!
Dao Tran
👍🏼 🚶♀️ 🚴 lanes. Steep for a good workout. …
The Brothers Buoy
Great for both pedestrians and cars. It’s a really great bridge.
Jonathan Nightfire
I walked on the Williamsburg Bridge when I was a kid and I use to live near that bridge by the Baruch Houses and the view was gorgeous by the East River. J, M, and Z train crosses the bridge. I can’t wait to walk on the bridge again in the future or take the train to cross the bridge.
Quinn Devon
It’s too bad that there’s so much graffiti! There isn’t much on the Williamsburg side, though; not unless you keep walking.
Tia Lendo
Great bridge to walk over since bikers are separated from pedestrians
Stephen Bennett
Free to cross, easy to walk (though steep), this is my default way of entering Manhattan from Brooklyn, and many parts of Queens. It's picturesque in its own right, and has many more locals biking and walking across, with fewer tourists than the Brooklyn or even Manhattan bridges to the south. Come for some beautiful city views at the top, if you go early or right at sunset.
Kelvin Ofula
One of the spectacular views that joins Manhattan and Brooklyn. The bridge is really beautiful with a train track 🚎 , road network🚗🚕🚙 , foot 👣 and bicycle 🚲🛴 lanes on either way. It's one of those less touristic bridges which makes it a really nice place to take a walk or jog due to the less number of people. There's rarely human traffic compared to the Brooklyn bridge. The bridge offers amazing views of Manhattan and the adjacent bridges. A really photogenic place.
ORDALIA COLON
Love this bridge 🚲👍I do a half commute every day on my bike!! …
Frank Lopez
Amazing changes to this bridge since I lived here great way and safe to get to NYC or Brooklyn
Cookie Quinones
Started running in the bridge it was amazing lots of runner people walking bikers but most of all the view is spectacular. Have made it my daily routine.
Garrett Romines
A must see in NYC. The views from Dumbo are amazing and picture perfect. A staple of NYC no matter the weather.
Christian Cobb
Ran this bridge and it's really beautiful. Great views of Manhattan. Coming from Brooklyn: To one side is the Empire State Building and to the other is the Freedom tower. It's a different perspective, unlike the Brooklyn or Manhattan bridge and it's one worth taking time to enjoy. A sizable running/walking section separated completely from the bike path.
Joseph Kushner
What an Old bridge the Williamsburg bridge. So many different levels for cars for bikes for trains for pedestrians it's just interestingly built very peculiar design and it's just an astonishing bridge yes it is a suspension bridge The peculiar design is the different heights of the different parts of the bridge such as the elevated track for the subway in between the two-way traffic it's just weird and then on top of the traffic by car there's a walkway for pedestrians and I believe on the other side is a passageway over the bridge for bikers
nickisnotdead
This is the bridge you take to get to the Overly-Gentrified Hipster Wonderland known as Williamsburg.
It’s a nice place; $3500 for a 400 square foot apartment and $12 coffees!
Misha C
The walkway and bike path on this bridge are a LOT better than other East River Crossings as they're separated. Bicylists: it starts in Brooklyn from 5th Street on the north side of the bridge. It's wide, and not too steep. There's some nasty bumps in both directions where the asphalt has torn away, so be careful. The ending on the Manhattan is a cluterf*ck so again, be careful not to plow into pedestrians who amble around the base of the bridge. Otherwise, great ride with great views.
Obscure Photography
The Williamsburg Bridge is a suspension bridge in New York City across the East River connecting the Lower East Side of Manhattan at Delancey Street with the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn at Broadway near the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (Interstate 278). Completed in 1903, it was the longest suspension bridge span in the world until 1924.The bridge is one of four toll-free vehicular bridges connecting Manhattan Island and Long Island. The others are the Queensboro Bridge to the north, and the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges to the south. The Williamsburg Bridge once carried New York State Route 27A and was planned to carry Interstate 78, though the planned I-78 designation was aborted by the cancellation of the Lower Manhattan Expressway and Bushwick Expressway.
Michelle Sudhakar
Enjoyed our bike ride on Williamsburg Bridge. We do Three bridges (BMW) and then ride around the city. The view is spectacular. The River on one side, trains and road traffic on the other. It is not as crowded as the Brooklyn bridge and has a good view.
Joshua H
Good bridge. Nice and sturdy. I ride my bike over it most days, always holds up. Would recommend.
Leanne M
Beautiful bridge that you can see from both Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. Any view of it is pretty and the view from the bridge is also fantastic. Pedestrians have their own walkway so taking a stroll along the bridge is a great activity to spend time doing
Will Storrs
Lots of fun to walk across and doesn’t have the crowds of the nearby Brooklyn Bridge.
Bernie Hug
Beautiful bridge with a separate pedestrian path. The view to the East River is amazing!
Roberto Dones
We went with scooters we have so much fun Williamsburg good restaurants good places to eat okay see Mommy
S7
A vintage bridge spanning lower Manhattan and Williamsburg with easy pedestrian access. There is also vehicle and subway traffic. It is a nice walk with a slightly gradual elevation. By and large, pedestrians and bicyclists are respectful of each other's space. I wouldn't walk after hours as there may be some sketchy people at the Midway point.
Hoisoo Cho
It was a very nice and cool experience to cross this bridge :)
Allison Robinson
I love walking over this bridge. It's great excersie. They also have a bike lane for cyclists. The views are amazing and it's fun to watch the train pass by. I start in Manhattan and end up in Brooklyn. It's really soothing and relaxing.
Cody Heisinger
Great pedestrian and bike paths but they are very long and uphill halfway. You may realize you’ve been walking for several blocks and.still not over the water yet. Some street art adds a little color.
Ayla Kim
The bridge offers great panoramic views of New York City and is a really nice walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn. It’s open 24/7 (of course except during times of construction) and offers really beautiful views of the city during any time of the day, especially during sunrise or sunset when the sun peeks through the NYC skyline or at night when the skyline is all lit up from the lights of all the buildings of the city. You can see both views of Brooklyn and Manhattan, so that’s nice as well. Though it’s nice for a leisurely walk, when the weather gets warmer, the walkway is pretty crowded with people, since it is shared between walkers and cyclers, so it is not that enjoyable and favorable for a walk during that time. In the same way, the bridge has a pretty high elevation, so it gets fairly cold during the winter and the beginning of spring. But the bridge is still a great opportunity for photos at any time of the day or year!
denia666
Walk this bridge for exercise and I love the city view especially at night
Char H
Forever congested but it gets you where you’ve got to go, and a little faster than the Brooklyn/ Manhattan Bridge.
Mark B Borg Jr
Love this bridge...its a great marker for the members of my family and myself when we run along the East River in preparation for some race, or other! Beautiful spot to stop, take in the sights of way downtown, NYC, get back on your running shoes and. Blast off!!!!!
Jordan-Lee Lopez
Love walking this bridge on clear and pretty days. Easy to walk over. Bike lane and walking line are on opposite sides of the bridge. Leads you into North Side of Williamsburg where they have a lot of nice local shops and restaurants.
Bella Clark
my roommate and i went for a run to end up here. it was early covid and we hadn’t left the house in weeks. honestly it gave me a whole new perspective on the bridge, even though i’d already thought it was really nice. very refreshing and with amazing views.
so this bridge is actually quite long and it takes a while to walk it (probably could bike/skate it in less than 10). but one time i walked across it, just avoiding transit for a day, but i twisted my ankle mid way. make sure you stay safe or you could end up cursed like me and have to limp for way too long.
i walked across it for my bday around sunset which is a really good time to do that.
i really love this bridge though, all in all. maybe my favorite one in nyc.
Sheryl Yvette
The best bridge ever. I don't know how to describe my love for the Williamsburg Bridge but I just adore it. It's beautiful, historical, and opened my eyes to cycling in the city as actual transportation. It's also great to view from the J Train as you're riding between Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Hugh Nicholas Perkins
For cycling and jogging, decent bridge. Bit more polluted than Manhattan, or Brooklyn, since there's a lot of big trucks, and they go underneath you, so if it's not windy, then the fumes rise upwards... The views are amazing. Good separation of pedestrians and cyclists. Takes you far into Manhattan.
Adesola Adewale
One of the best bridge I have seen. The view is excellent. I was able to view all side from J and M train. It has both bike and pedestrian lane as well as subway and car lanes. Very beautiful to behold.
L An
5 stars. No toll.
Kevin CHAN
Great walking place. Not that bad. At Night is a wonderful view to walk around. Walking in the bridge get you the spark of the feeling of New York. I usually clear my head or walk for fun. I notice all street art work around the bridge. It's not that much people knows the beauty of the bridge until you walk it and experience.
On the Beat
One of the most beautiful bridges in NYC .
Ilya Rutman
I will not suggest to go there at night because the atmosphere freaked me out. By the way, it is a good bridge to see Manhattan from other side than Brookly or Manhattan. So, it is great too! But be careful, cars are moving literally on the sidewalk ... I am not exaggerating!
Myrna Nevarez
This bridge is my go to early morning walk into Williamsburg. Aside from spectacular views, it’s a trip down memory lane because I began taking the B39 bus (to Bridge Plaza) and the JMZ trains (to Marcy Avenue or Hewes Street) in the late 60s (as a child with my mom) from the Lower East Side into what was known then as the South Side and the North Side. Around 2003 (newly renovated) I began walking the bridge and enjoying these walks and eventually my grandchildren joined me. Whether I’m walking into BK or coming back home to the EV I plan to continue these walks and enjoying not only the view and the exercise but seeing all the people that partake of walking, jogging or bike riding.
Abner Morgan
Great views of Manhattan (skyline and the Lower East Side neighborhoods) and Brooklyn (Williamsburg, Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant areas). Neither the bike path (on the north side of the bridge) nor the pedestrian path (on the south side) are in the center of the bridge. This causes some views to be obstructed by the J and M trains or by parts of the bridge itself. Keep this in mind when taking photos. It is still a nice walk, though.
Andre T.
Riding a bike or walking on the bridge is such a great workout plus unbelievable harbor views and 2 great parts of NYC: Manhattan and Brooklyn. It's definitely a place to be at any time of a day and night during any season!
Casey Penk
I love taking the train over this bridge! So cool to look out to the south at Lower Manhattan and up north to Midtown. The city is stunning during the day (in all its grandeur) and nostalgic at night (with the wall of lights).
Richard
The Williamsburg Bridge is a great way of getting from Brooklyn to Manhattan (I didn’t cross the other direction so can’t comment on it’s effectiveness that way). I made it across without any issues, fulfilling my expectations of a bridge.
You can also cycle, drive and take the train across, although I would recommend walking as there are lots of cute dogs to meet along the way.
Only negative was that the graffiti wasn’t as good as other bridges I’ve crossed; a little too phalic for my taste.
5/5. Would cross again.
Jason Braun
It might not be as famous as the Brooklyn Bridge, but it's a better walking experience and has incredible views of Brooklyn. The path drops you right in the heart of Williamsburg. Go right and it's hoards of Jewish families, turn left and it's hoards of hipsters. Take your pick. Also a great bridge to go jogging on since the bikes have their own lanes.
A Castro
Kinda biased when it comes down to the Williamsburg Bridge, alot of great walks over from Brooklyn and Delancy growing up and that when it wasnt in great shape. The new walkway restoration is awesome as well as bike path. Take a day.. walk over, you'll enjoy it.
Noel Ruiz
Love riding my bike over it. Just hate when people decide to walk on the bike site and block the bike lane.
C M
fun place to ride on, just be cautious of pedestrians and pot holes. When its rainy out be carful it can be slippery and if you not carful at the end and beginning of the bridge there is traffic you can run into...
T M
There is a nice park, sit there, sun bathed, enjoy
NYC
Enjoy crossing this AWESOME BRIDGE!!! Jogging, walking, riding a bike, getting a snapshot...😁
whichever way you want to get from Manhattan to Williamsburg or vise versa, this is pretty entertaining. The Williamsburg Bridge is 7,308 ft. long, which is "1.384 MILES" of pure nonstop exercising fun and Magnificent views free of charge!
Watch your surroundings with the bikers. Beware of those agressive speedsters with practically flying speeds. It is important to keep in your lane and stay out of their way. Have Fun! Be Safe. NO MOPEDS.
Valerie Wong
The bridge isn't as crowded as the others such as the Brooklyn bridge. Has a very nice view all around. A little further on the bridge, it will split into two broad paths, one for pedestrians and the other for bikers.
nina carranza
it's revitalizing to see NYers running and biking when the train passes by this bridge. this would make for a good place to take pictures at for your social media
Edward Maddalena
In the troika of East River crossings, the Williamsburg bridge has always been the odd bridge out: not named for a specific NYC borough, nor is it in any famous movie shots. However what it lacks in fame, it makes up in a beautiful walk way. Spanning about 1.2 miles overall, the bridge has 2 sides: one solely dedicated for bikes and one solely for runners and joggers (a welcome treat, compared to the free-for-all on the Brooklyn Bridge). Although the walkway is on the outside part of the bridge, it is enclosed by a metal barricade, ruining any chances of getting pictures of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. Additionally, walkers have to contend with the rumble of the J and M trains running across the bridge every 5 minutes, which can give the bridge a good rumble.
Overall, this is a nice way to spend a warm afternoon, though not as scenic or unique as the Brooklyn and Manhattan crossings
Elvis Jimenez
Heavy rush hour traffic M and J train packed
Michelle Q
Breathtaking views. Love that you have walk, run, jog or even ride your bike across the bridge. Great and easy way to make it from Brooklyn to Manhattan
Kalash Somnathe
The bridge links the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Carrying rail, trolley and roadways for carriages and pedestrians, it was one of the last major bridges designed for the horse and carriage. By the 1920s, the automobile was the major mode of transportation and the trolley tracks were replaced with roadways
David Li
Best bridge of the 3 lower East River crossings by foot or bike. There is none of that tourist crowd on the Brooklyn and you can see the view of NYC north unobstructed. Just choose the correct side when it separates pedestrians and bikers.
Trevor Enberg
From a pedestrian point of view (walker) this bridge is very pedestrian friendly. Easy to access and safe.
Tamara Jones
Such a unique bridge! Great to walk, run and cycle - I bring all my tourist friends. NYC without the crowds of Brooklyn bridge.
Joseph Nevins
This is the best bridge in NYC to walk, run or bike across. It's more convenient than the Brooklyn bridge to most of us who live in Manhattan and Brooklyn while also having much less tourists!!
Michael Ion
The Williamsburg bridge bike and walk paths are much more wider than the Queens borough Bridge. I wish the queensborough bridge had this much room.
Dan Splains
Biking up the bridge is hard even after a lot of practice. When you finish climbing you are very sweaty but luckily the wind is the worst and the air is coldest at the high point of the bridge so you will soon have pneumonia, unless it's summer. Look at the water down there, don't jump, look at this bridge, what an achievement! See what humanity is capable of? So much to live for. No restrooms.
Zach Ruiz
This is my second favorite East River bridge. It provides the best views of both uptown and downtown Manhattan. If you are looking to bike or walk over a bridge for the views, this is the one.
``Luka`` Brian Lucas Kaczmarek
This is my favorite bridge to bike over. At the top there's a nice area where you can cross between the pedestrian lanes (south side) or the bike lanes (north side), hang out, have a snack, do a little dance... ;)
Spinach Mellow
Beautiful!
Stephen Zakrzewski
This is a very reliable and conveniently located bridge across the East River. It's a great choice when you're taking the J, Z or M trains, or if you're biking or even walking! You can drive across it, too! Best bridge in the area.
Mikolaj Kegler
Iconic NY landmark. Looks amazing at sunsets/sunrises and makes a great contrast with the Manhattan skyline. The park below the bridge on the Manhattan side is also a good spot for some pictures.
Steven Lee
The Hipster Bridge is what I term and call this structure that connects lower east side Manhattan with Williamsburg Brooklyn. A lot of hipster bikers, walkers, runners, and tourist use this bridge daily.
On the Manhattan side, the beginning of the public path is a mix use for bikers and pedestrians. Towards the middle it splits into designated lanes: left for bikers and right for walkers/runners.
There is usually about 4 lanes of traffic for cars going in and out from the bridge, so 8 lanes total. Sometimes during the morning rush, they closed off two lanes into Brooklyn and instead use those two lanes for traffic coming into Manhattan.
Two tracks for the train in the middle of the bridge for the JMZ trains. When you run or bike, you are very close to the trains, but the fencing is what separates you from being run over.
On a sad note = ( , one winter I witnessed a dog without a leash being hit and run over by a car. So if you have dogs, please protect and hold onto them from running and chasing after cars. The intersection can be both dangerous for humans and animals if you cross the street without caution.
Amanda Wagner
Thoroughly enjoyed walking across this bridge and taking in the great views. It's a great place for both walkers and biking!
Jermaine Tillett
Bike review mostly:
Uphill battle makes the downhill worth it. The down hill speeds are similar on both ends. From bk to Manhattan there's separate bike & walk paths and the paths merge to Manhattans end. So I do not like exiting the Manhattan side down on a bike. Mainly cause you're damn near flying and there's people walking right next to you.
Luli Verda
Much safer for pedestrian than the Brooklyn Bridge, you can feel safe enough to listen to music using your headphone without being afraid to get hit by a bicycle rider. MAKE SURE YOU ARE TAKING TO RIGHT ENTRANCE. It can be confusing where the riders should go and where the riders.
Mauricio Pretto
Nice traditional metal bridge
Phil Rider
Good place to run. Pedestrian access on the Williamsburg side is via "Bedford Ave".
Dan Benshoff
It’s a bridge so, yeah. Other bridges in nyc have a short approach walk and better views so go to those
Doe Robles
The bridge between the Williamsburg part of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. The part of Manhattan known as the lower Eastside. There is a separate bike lane and a lane to walk over the bridge for pedestrians. The bridge was built in 1903, which at the time it was built, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. You could drive across the bridge in your car. Great views. Lots of history.
Leo de Groot
Was worth every effort of coming there. A huge bridge with great views.
Bianca Rodrigues
I run and bike here all the time.
Bike lane - make sure you don't walk here instead of the walking lane. Bikers will yell at you.
Walking at night can seem a little sketchy sometimes.
It's one of the best bridges and so convenient on summer nights when you're hanging out in the LES and you live in Williamsburg.
Annette Reyes
My favorite bridge weather your walking, driving or bike riding it's beautiful from Manhattan to Brooklyn or vise versa. even better hop on the J train take a ride enjoy the scenery!
Ravi Sachidanandam
Best bridge in NY City, for commuters, cyclists and pedestrians have their own lanes and both ends are super cool , lower east side on the west and Williamsburg on the east. Heavily used by cyclists, pedestrians
Cade Mora
It is less famous, but it is as cool.
Rob T
It's a bridge that in six months with be hell going over on a bike. You can't see the water through the bridge anymore and the bike lane has a wall of death at the end. Usually they do work right when you're commuting and the city forces you into another dangerous situation into oncoming lanes. Compared to Brooklyn it's a five star.
Melissa Maisonet
I LOVE this bridge. In 80s as a kid I remember the old bridge, with rickety walk paths. You really had to watch your step or it was over. BEST BRIDGE
Terry Zeze
My grandson love this bridge
Jack
It feels much longer than Brooklyn bridge and Manhattan bridge because there's a good part of it that is elevated over Manhattan. They also renovated a while back so it is in better condition than Manhattan bridge.
Vineet Singh
I know it's just a bridge but I can justify my five stars here. It's an absolute miracle of the human effort. I always admire the amount of foresight the architects had when they were building these architectural marvels. Unlike Brooklyn Bridge(BB) this bridge offers much more to the pedestrians. Separate lane for pedestrians and bikers is a big relief for pedestrians. At BB it was a constant struggle for bikers and people jogging juggling for space.
The bridge gives awesome view of the city skylines which is definitely worth watching. Hopefully coming summers I will be a regular at WB with my bike or just jogging.
Joanie Axelbaum
Nice walk and biking lanes. Covered in graffiti and neat to walk through.
Buck Schley
Great place for a walk over the East River if you are north and don't feel like heading down to the Brooklyn bridge or Manhattan bridge. Definitely not as nice as the other two...
Marco R. Cavallari
Great bridge for sight seeing, biking, walking, running, driving and there are also subway lines through it. In my opinion, one of the best bridges to bike.
Daniel Cortez
I cross the bridge everyday on my way to work.biking skating and some times during the summer walking. Great view of the city if your a photographer.
Christine Martinez
I live in Williamsburg, I seen the transformation. From Bad to Good. I live in this area 55 years. All I can say I hope this transformation is for the best. I walked that Bridge many times all seasons. So Williamsburg has come a long way.❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏 …
Alan Fox
Pretty decent bridge Bike, walk, drive, or take the subway across. Go for the view, or drink and shoot fireworks at the top. However, over crowded. People and cars everywhere. Takes a while to get across.
Jesus Figueroa
It's a bridge! What can I say?
All jokes aside, it has a great walking path and an equally great bike path. You can get great views of the city skyline from the bridge.
Aaron Drake
Not as iconic as the Brooklyn Bridge but there is a nice foot/bike path and the views are wonderful as you watch the 'J & Z' trains go by periodically.
Mitch
A must do if you're into these things. The views aren't what they are on the Brooklyn Bridge but it's a more pleasant experience with a better, more modern path. A very enjoyable stroll!
Samuel Goldstein
A Great Bridge To Ride A Bike & Walk.
History
Construction
File:WilliamsburgBridge1903opening.ogv
Historic film clip of a procession during the opening of the Williamsburg Bridge in 1903
Construction on the "East River Bridge", the second across the East River, began in 1896 after approval by the Governor of New York on May 27, 1895.[3] The new bridge was to be built north of the Grand Street Ferry, terminating at Delancey and Clinton Streets on the Manhattan side and at South Fifth Street and Driggs Avenue on the Brooklyn side.[4][5] Leffert L. Buck was the chief engineer, Henry Hornbostel was the architect, and Holton D. Robinson was the assistant engineer.[6]
Engineers first constructed caissons on either side to support the future bridge.[4] The caisson on the Manhattan side was completed in May 1897,[7] upon which time the caisson on the Brooklyn side was launched.[8] The caissons were manufactured in a shipyard in Williamsburg.[9] In January 1898, Mayor Robert Anderson Van Wyck removed the members of the East River Bridge Commission due to "charges of extravagance".[10] A commission of six people appointed by the state was proposed, but the bill was rejected.[11]
As part of the Williamsburg Bridge's construction, the section of Delancey Street between the bridge's western end and the Bowery was widened. The portion of Spring Street between the Bowery and Lafayette Street was also expanded. This was the third plan for the bridge's western approaches that was publicly announced. Public opposition had caused the cancellation of previous proposals, which included a wide street extending from the end of the bridge to either Cooper Square or the intersection of Houston Street and Second Avenue.[12] To accommodate the bridge's approaches, 600 houses were demolished in total, including 330 on the Manhattan side and 270 on the Brooklyn side. More than 10,000 people were evicted from these houses during construction.[5]
The bridge's supporting wires were ready to be installed by February 1901.[13] The first temporary wires between the East River Bridge's two towers was strung on April 9, 1901. They were to be replaced later with permanent, thicker main cables on both sides of the bridge's deck.[14] The main cables were each 18.75 inches (47.6 cm) thick and made up of 7,696 smaller cables twisted together.[15] These cables had been fully strung by April 16, and work on the bridge's pedestrian deck begun soon afterward.[16] The pedestrian path on the East River Bridge was completed in June 1901.[17] Afterward, construction progressed at a fast pace, owing to the ease of manufacturing the steel.[5] Ornamental lights were also placed on the bridge.[18] The East River Bridge was renamed the "Williamsburg Bridge", after its Brooklyn terminus, in 1902.[19]
The bridge was damaged by fire while under construction in 1902.[20]
There were several deaths during construction. They included a worker who fell from the Manhattan approach in May 1900;[21] the main steelwork engineer, who fell from the Brooklyn approach in September 1900;[22] and a foreman who drowned in March 1902.[23] Additionally, a fire occurred on the Brooklyn side's tower in November 1902, which nearly severed the bridge's cables.[20]
The bridge opened on December 19, 1903, at a cost of $24.2 million ($624 million in 2016).[24] At the time it was constructed, the Williamsburg Bridge set the record for the longest suspension bridge span in the world. The record stood until 1924, when the Bear Mountain Bridge was completed.
Yousef al-Khattab
Very pretty view center span oh Manhattan. This bridge has both a walkway and a lane for bikes. I recommend if your s tourist to cross this bridge and experience the diversity of Brooklyn. If you make a left you will be in a Spanish area and as you walk a little further left it becomes a young trendy crowd with many fine restaurants. If you make a right off the bridge you will feel like you're in The Twilight Zone. This is a Hasidic shtetil that mirrors 19th century Lvov. Head deeper in and you can enjoy some good Bed Stuy soul food.

On June 16 2018. While taking the D train from Brooklyn to Manhattan. While the train going across the Manhattan bridge. I saw this bridge . Lots of thoughts arise in my mind
It once carried New York State Route 27A and was planned to carry Interstate 78, though the planned I-78 designation was aborted by the cancellation of the Lower Manhattan Expressway and Bushwick Expressway.
Cyclists are in the north side if the bridge and pedestrians are on the south side of the bridge. One thing to note: the bridge approach from the Manhattan side does not have physical separation between pedestrians and cyclists. However, the width of the approach helps to minimize conflicts.
Rafael Diaz
The view from the walk way or trains, cars is as beautiful as any bridge in the world I would know as I grow up in the Brooklyn side I've been on countless times it never gets old
Alexandre Faubert Charlebois
Amazing views of uptown and the empire state building and downtown with its gorgeous bridges and freedom tower. Solid path for running too with steep inclines and declines.
C Lilakos
Best bridge for cycling, it's also the most convenient for traveling to northern Brooklyn. Always a chill vibe and never really too crowded.
Rasagna
The view of the city during sunset was amazing from the bridge.

The bridge is old 115 years
Micheal Murphy
It's a bridge not to much to say other then if you bike/walk you get great views of Manhattan/Brooklyn. If your driving into the city the morning time is backed up with traffic.
Harry Porter
It is for sure you will get a little bit of traffic jam here. But you won't feel bored as you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Manhattan when you are not driving.
David Shoffitt
Willie is really wonderful. I like to say he is the strong silent type. Some may find this to be a bit off-putting, but I think it is a great quality for a bridge to have. Bridges that talk a lot can be very annoying.
Last, I like Willie's style. Industrial chic with a touch of Hudson charm.
Mercedes Dell
Beautiful and peaceful place!
Louie G
☀️ as 🏀 z …
Amanda Dixson (Eaven Starchilde)

In 1962, Sonny Rollins returned to the studio after a self-imposed, three-year hiatus.⠀
⠀
Rollins used the time to focus on perfecting his craft by practicing up to 16 hours per day on the Williamsburg Bridge.⠀
⠀
What did he name his first post-hiatus album? The Bridge.
