Reviews of Indiana War Memorial & Museum
Betty McKenzie
I wish I could rate this a 10! It was amazing. So much war history in such a beautiful building. We've traveled and seen a lot of historical sites, but this is my favorite, by far. A great opportunity for kids to "see" the past and for adults to remember. Don't miss out.
Phil Lambert
MUST see!
A truly unique and enormous hidden gem in downtown Indianapolis; you will be in awe of this spectacular building! Great place to visit, learn about the history, to see the dedication to the United States military along with its accomplishments and sacrifices. Makes you feel proud to be a Hoosier and an American!
Carlos Torres
One of the BEST museums that I've visited thus far. Tons of history and a timeline that depicts crucial moments of this country. A true testament in honoring the veterans that served and the ones that paid the ultimate sacrifice. A MUST see if you are ever in Indianapolis.
George Sorrells
I lived in Indiana for the first 23 years of my life. I have driven by the memorial hundreds of times, but until today had never visited. The basement is a pretty good museum of Indiana Service Men and Women from all conflicts starting at the Revolutionary War until today.
The main floor houses a really good exhibit about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis at the very end of WW2. I knew of the sinking, but really learned a lot about the history of the ship, and what led to the sinking.
The top of the Memorial is called the Shrine Room. The only word I can think of is FANTASTIC!! If you visit, save the Shrine for last, so it will be the lasting impression!
Kevin Werner
This really is an excellent stop. There are a lot of nice stops in Indy. We've passed over this several times. It is well worth the time. Well worth. Set aside at least 90 minutes. Maybe more, but 90 minutes at least. There is a lot of good stuff. The propaganda posters from the 2 world wars is the best. The post 9-11 stuff, especially post Afghanistan, the worst. Not that it was bad, but the display doesn't match the outcome. Not the soldiers' fault. They did their job.
Raul Huerta
I loved the monument and the museum inside. It’s full of history and color. Entrance is free so there are no excuses.

I truly deeply respect & humbly admire what army people do for us. The staff at this place was notably humble & helpful. Thanks to them. For those who know detailed history of both world wars & other wars, this place us one of those hundreds of war memorials where history has been narrated from American point of view rather than what actually happened, which I feel is fair to know how great they did while dropping nuclear bomb on japan, or how great they did by managing millions of people to save this planet from mighty Germany. They have hundreds of the war propaganda pictures that were used to motivate youth of that time. They interestingly cover the sad painful part of wars where people die due to lack of resources & bad circumstances. I noticed there's a small gallery of how great usa army did in Afghanistan to build their nation, culture & democracy there. Well, now that things have changed in 2022, I feel museum mgmt should make changes in this gallery. Overall a great place to be to feel the honor, pride, passion for the nation. Must visit for teens and young people.

I’m really glad we made the time to visit. A wonderful place with good exhibits and a chance to see a classic American building. We found the names of family relatives from the world war on the memorial wall and visit the solemn centerpiece. Well worth the visit.

I have visited war museums in other cities before. There are too many pictures of wars in the museum, which is not suitable for children to visit. But Indiana's war museum is all about peace, which is what I like.
Stephanie Rose
I can't believe that I've lived in Indiana most of my life and have never checked out this fascinating place! This museum is truly a Hoosier gem. I loved the beautiful, stunning auditorium and the chapel above it. The museum was HUGE and chock full of war-related memorabilia. I highly recommend checking out this gem.
CrzyGamer Mom
Museum has different area for each war, major conflict or event. Good amount of information to education and displays of clothes, weapons, news/propaganda from period.
Phil Mulder
I was here for hours in awe. I even left to go get a friend and returned. I saw items that I didn't see the first time. The bells from the USS Indianapolis and USS Indiana were a surprise to see. Several hours later after taking in as much information we could and history we had to leave as they were closing. This monument is astonishing. From conception to finish was well done. I can't wait to go back to seeing it again.
Ann Brown
Great platform to view the Circle City Classic Parade. Free to enter museum. Beautiful an ornate entrance. Always a joyful and educational experience.
D. Frank Adams
I actually visited the memorial in 2017. I really enjoyed the experience. I took the stairs up to the observation deck, and that is a workout! If you have any issues with tight spaces, the observation deck isn't for you. The stairwell is very narrow, so think twice before ascending via the stairs. Speaking of which, there are approximately 350 steps, so be mindful of the toddlers ability to climb that many stairs. As you can see from the photos that I have submitted, the view is spectacular. You are able to see the city skyline from various directions. By the way, there is an elevator. There is a fee associated with the lift. There is also a gift shop. Go and enjoy the building which is very ornate.
Ryan Faulk
It's an amazing place and really captures the sacrifice that those from Indiana have made to insure freedom the world over
Shawn
Great location, facility, and displays. A must stop and see while visiting Indianapolis. Much to see and learn here. Free access!
Logan Sutton
Beautiful architecture and monument to soldiers past. Museum located within Free to the public. Open Wed.-Sun.
Amazed by the size of the museum and the sheer amount/quality its historical assets represented here. We only got halfway thru before having to leave because our parking meter was expiring. If you plan on visiting, pay for some extra time on the meter so you can enjoy & explore the whole thing. If you appreciate history, you'll love this museum.
James Silvia
Great museum both from an architectural point of view and content.
Tim Kingsbury
Whether meditating & praying inside at the top level or on the steps outside; this is one of Indiana’s most precious gems 💎 …
Praharsh M. Patel
Indiana World War memorial is a walk down the history that allows you to feels the history's most gloomy era.
It has compiled the information and acknowledged the contribution of th men and women alike.
The place joins the Indiana's acknowledgement of great warriors from the state who upkeep the spirit of the United States.
Claudia Hamrick
Great place to visit. A must see if you want a historical view of our military.
Marie Lourdes Buitrago
Beautiful time! Great history information.
Teresa Mitchell
This place has everything you want to know about Indiana history and every war we have been a part of. It is a beautiful display of Men and woman sacrifice for our country we really enjoyed the free tour we took.
Da-Wang Wu
Visited the memorial in the morning. It’s very beautiful. We climbed up stairs to take a look at the city - great view! Didn’t get a chance to go in tho... For first time visitor like me, I suggest to walk around this area with other beautiful spots (e.g. monument, public library, fountain) and then visit the restaurant street nearby.
D Y
Beautiful plaza from the design and architecture, to the perfectly manicured lawns and flower beds. We had an amazing afternoon exploring the area.
Alon B
Such a gem in downtown Indy. We just walked by, and were like "this is an impressive building". Free entry, friendly staff, in mid week there was almost no one there.
Have to start by going to the upstairs memorial - breathtaking
Then go through time in the exhibits, all are authentic and very informative. You can spend hours or just a quick visit, depending how avid you are on history
Moyita
Great experience. My kids who are 7 and 10 really enjoyed it. It's a beautiful museum. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was bc I felt there was no organized flow. It seemed difficult follow a historical timeline due to the room changes and sudden change in war.
Andrea Bailey
Absolutely wonderful museum with an added focus on Indiana veterans. Wish we had more time to spend - looking forward to coming back!
Erica Montelius
This place is amazing! I can't believe they packed so much history into this building. Beautiful, very clean and organized. A MUST SEE if you are in Indianapolis! Great for all ages. Full of displays that will attract even the youngest childrens attention. Plan on staying a few hours, there is so much to see, read and hear, you do not want to miss any of it. Very informative and very respectfully displayed. I highly recommend! If this place doesn't leave you feeling grateful for your freedom, you are a lost soul.
Eugene Griffith
If you are in the Indianapolis area this is a must see museum. The building is absolutely stunning!! The architecture is so amazing. My friend and I were lucky enough to get an impromptu tour from Jason! Jason is so knowledgeable about the museum and history of the artifacts. He took the time to show us the theater and shrine upstairs. These areas of the museum are breathtaking. The detail in these rooms is so incredible. Hand carved woodwork and impressive marble are seen throughout these rooms. Paintings and engravings are on every wall. This will be one of the most impressive World War museums you will ever visit. Downstairs you will see countless items from all American War eras. Weapons, uniforms, personal letters, gear and even an Apache helicopter. There is a fully functional radio room depicting the radio room aboard the USS Indianapolis. The tour is self guided and goes in chronological order of the American wars. I would dedicate a couple of hours to enjoy the museum. I’ve uploaded several pictures of the displays. There is parking all around the building. Indiana chose to memorialize our war heroes before the end of World War 1 and I believe that you will be truly impressed with this beautiful museum. Enjoy the pictures!!
Riley L
You had me at free museum. I've been to several World War museums (KCMO, NOLA, etc.) and this museum is easily top tier. Very informative and thorough... So many memorabilia (from uniforms and weapons to personal affects and even veteran volunteers). When we toured, several volunteers were in a replica radio room. A volunteer spoke to the different equipment, life on board the USS Indianapolis, and also tied in certain areas of the museum that would bring his stories to life. I will definitely come back to visit!
J England9429
We absolutely loved our visit to the Indiana world war memorial.
So much in fact that we will be bringing our 7 children back to see all the wonders the Museum has to offer.
Truly is an amazing place to walk through and look at all the history of the men and women from Indiana who have been a part of all the wars.
Really loved all the info on the USS Indianapolis. It was really cool to see some of the people who went through the days and nights after the sinking.
And it's all free. So go and check it out, learn about Indiana's history in war. It's worth it.
The place was very clean and well done and the staff is very friendly.
We will absolutely be back.
Arash D
Pretty cool place, with good information.
All these info could be little bit boring nut building it self is amazing
Stephen Francia
I've lived and adventured around the world, and this night me one of my all time favorite buildings/museums! Self guided through different "wars" that the US have been involved in-especially WWI, and the INDIANA involvement of each. The entire building is incredibly cool - inside and out, and 90% is handicap accessible - you'll need at least 2 hours. Go and enjoy, it's almost overwhelming!
Matt Rolfson
Simply incredible. I hadn't been to the memorial in at least 15 years and had completely forgotten about just how incredible the shrine room is. Massive pillars with an incredibly high ceiling decorated with blue lights and a white star on the ceiling with a huge American flag hanging from the ceiling. The actual museum portion was far larger than I thought it was going to be and spanned every major war America has taken part in dating back to the revolution, and not just the two world wars. You can literally spend an entire day in this place, and it's completely free on top of that. There's plenty of parking around the American Legion Mall (which this memorial is apart of), which means you won't walk far. Highly highly recommend for those who have an interest military history.
Kara Rogers
This is an absolute must-see. We were taken aback by everything about this beautiful and well-kept memorial. The outside is incredibly grand and will inspire dozens of pictures. The inside is stunning. There is a beautiful theater that has been kept historical intact as if you were stepping into the past. There is a memorial room that is incredible, a true place to reflect on the sacrifices made by our service men and women. Downstairs is a large museum that guides you through all the wars of our American history. Couldn't recommend this place enough.
Dawn Morris
I visited the memorial on Veterans Day 2021. It's a beautiful building that everyone needs to visit at least once! Don't forget to make your way up to the second floor for a nice surprise.
Natalie Webb
Very educational and pretty. My daughter had her engagement photos taken here
Caley
Great piece of history with awesome views of the near by area! Try going in the evening when the sun is setting! Very cool area and a must see if you are visiting.
Jason Klawonn
The Shrine inside is a must see. Was truly awe inspiring for its size. The exhibitions were well done and I wish I knew about the breadth of them as I would have planned to spend more time there. It being free is an amazing value!
Sharon H
Free and free street parking on Sundays. Come check it out.
Kyle Hayes
Great stop if you wondering downtown Indy. Free admission and full of military history. Interior is art deco style. The museum covers all the wars and conflicts involving the US military (Revolutionary War to the present conflicts in the Middle East), with a basement full of interesting artifacts. I highly recommend that visitors check out the shrine room, it's very moving.
Miss Ski Reads
Beautiful inside and out! The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. My parents and I enjoyed the walk through time.
James Daniel
This place is absolutely amazing. Came here for a workshop and going thru this museum is remarkable. Any one that's a military history buff needs to come here.
Dr. Aaron Campbell
Great memorial, great museum. I’ve taken many people here over the years and we have enjoyed learning about history and seeing this amazing building. There is so much to do in our city and this is one of the things that is often overlooked. It is worth the time to stop in and check it out. The security and staff are very kind and helpful. I plan to take our church youth group here soon.
Rebecca Paull
This is an impressive War Memorial Museum for a state to offer. It has lots of different displays and if you're interested in war history you will really love it. I came to this Museum on a Sunday and there are some kind of religious Extravaganza going on with tables set up with many different religions and the place was overrun with people but when I made my way downstairs to see some of the monuments it was really nice. Indiana does a really great job with their public displays
Brandon S. Padgett
One of the Greatest Building structures in the state of Indiana. If U live in this state of Indiana and never have been there .That's a shame.these are also pics from the downtown soldiers an sailors monument too. my mistake. that is a must go to too there is also a museum that is in the basement of that place that is also free it's all dedicated to the Civil war. No, excuses Its free just whatever u have to donate as the same with the the war memorial.
Colin Billings
Incredible exhibits on all major wars with US involvement over the past century, free admission. Beautiful building.
Steven Palmer
Super cool to see and learn about! If you haven't been, you should definitely make a visit out of it and come check this place out!
Olivia Sorrells
Inspiring! The building itself is beautiful, and the exhibits very well done. It may not be huge, but one could spend hours here reading all the history and stories they have on display. Parts of the museum feel immersive, like it takes you to the place these soldiers were. The atmosphere is reverent; just walking in made a sense of hush come over me. I definitely recommend visiting this place!
Knonsense
Excellent memorial and museum. Free to enter. Very thorough and detailed. Covers every war. Free to enter!
Gene Dupler
There are a lot of cool artifacts and a lot of research that went into this war memorial. It could use a better self-guided tour, but it's a great place to learn a little military history and spend about an hour doing so.
Dan Wolff
Fantastic displays, very historically accurate and concise. Staff is awesome, keep up what you're doing.
S.D
Never been inside but visited for Memorial Day several years ago for the service and it was very well put together. A great site to remember our fallen.
Jeremy Smurr
This place is heavy. You feel the weight of the experience of the soldiers. The exhibits are done exceptionally well, from The French and Indian War up through the War on Terror. The exhibit of Sammy Davis, with his Medal of Honor, is exceptional. I felt very solemn when going through the exhibits, as though I needed to absorb it all to fully pay my respects. The top floor, the shrine is amazing as well.
Annie Salvaggio
One of the best war memorials I have ever been to! We happened upon it by accident, spending the day in Indianapolis. It is free to get in, you can leave a donation. It is set up so well, the building itself is beautiful! Don't forget to go to the second floor, it took my breath away! It is so moving and beautiful!
Kayla Edwards
Great memorial honoring World War One. Museum in basement, stunning shrine room up high. Amazing interior hidden by a ho hum exterior.
Michelle Sweeny
our favorite museum!!!! helicopter indoors? a battle ship communication room where you can send Morse code? and the most peaceful memorial to the soldiers with blue stained glass and an echo that is hauntingly beautiful.
William Bailey
This is an incredibly beautiful structure located in the downtown's most picturesque corridor.
Charbel Harb
Just amazing to see all the history from the different wars the US have been involved in. Easy access and no wait. Loved it
Mir Farrokh Salek
Beautiful structure and free museum under it
Leah Rife (Leah Rife Photo)
Indy has so many amazing photo spots, and the War Memorial is one of them! I'm a wedding photographer in Indianapolis, and this is one of my favorite spots to take couples for engagement sessions or downtown sessions. The neutral backdrops and epic views help make photos stunning, plus I love highlighting the local Indy landscape! I see families and and individuals always enjoying the area around the memorial too, making it a perfect destination for exploring our beautiful city.
Nick Sayles
Hidden treasure in downtown Indy. Great museum and the memorial at the top is the perfect capstone to top it off.
Theresa Spears
I enjoy taking my son here! And friends too. There is a lot to learn and see. The shrine room(top floor) is so tranquil. There is an elevator or two stairways. The exterior is under construction(July2018).
T Fr8s
Went to this museum for my husband's military ball. We had a great time! The displays are an amazing life like set up of a walk in time through our country's rich military history!
Paul Garland
An amazing sense of both the history and horrors of war. While not exactly "young child" appropriate, it is worth bringing them just to see the Shrine. Also, info (and relics) of the USS Indianapolis, the World Trade Center and the Pentagon attack. Be warned, LOTS of stairs, but so very very moving as to be 100% worth going.
Natalie Humphries (Nat)
It's so pretty here I love taking my walks around this memorial and park
Diana Mullins
Loved it. Stayed most of the day. My first time in Indiana and there.
G Santana
Very good museum, have story from WW1 to 2 and everything related to Indiana. Must place to visit.
Lucky Chanzlyn
One of the more beautiful monuments/museums I have ever been. It's deceptively huge compared to how it looks on the outside but so fascinating!
Carlos E Lemus
Very historical place worthy to visit several times. This was my second. Beautiful.
Michelle Beck
The museum is incredibly educational. There were so many cool things to see. I went on a Sunday and only saw 2 other groups of people, which was nice because I like to take my time and read all the things in museums. It took me about 2 hours to go through it.
Karley “Karley Riggenbach” Riggenbach
Highly recommend going to this free museum! There is a lot to see and learn!
Karina Sam
Visited by accident, we we're just walking through. What a great museum! The Shrine and the other sections are really cool. You are looking at history at it's best! In the middle of downtown surrounded by beautiful parks! Best of all it's free!
Jeremy Rumbaugh
Very few people viewing the exhibits which makes for a nice leisurely stroll through the full history of Indiana and its people.
Widya Ukkas

Austin Grove
Amazing structure maintained grounds around the memorial and pleasant view of surrounding buildings

A great place to learn about the major wars the US has fought. It begins with the Civil war and the exhibits end with the current modern war on terrorism.
Eliza Lyn
I love the personal letters engraved on the walls sent by those in battle to their families, so personal. Take a look around and be grateful that these men fought for your freedom!

Must see for everyone, really inspiring to see things like this in Indiana. I doubt Illinois would ever put something like this together. Glad we stopped even if it was under construction. The folks at the desk we're very well informed and made our visit that much more enjoyable. We auditorium in this building is really amazing.
khaja lateef uddin
Good architecture and good place to move around
Jill Fewell
Find incredible history displays and the most magnificent room atop the best museum about Hoosiers serving our nation. Majesty and significance defined. Don't miss it!
Jean Brown
So beautiful. A wonderful tribute. Much more than we anticipated.
Nick S
I feel this museum is underrated. It had plenty of information from pre-revolutionary war to WWI. Don't expect much for WWII era, as the focus here is WWI.
Rachel
Beautiful monument and historical venue to teach all generations about our nation's wars.
Eric Chreist
So fun. I have lived in/around Indianapolis for 25 years and just recently visited the War Memorial. Lots of interesting history and incredible views. It's free/donations welcome too!
Barbara Martin
Great exhibits. Friendly informative volunteers
Jessica Hackman
This is a great museum and has a place that can be used for military graduations and other things
Emrick Ong
The building is beautiful enough
Shawn Bridwell
By far one of the most underrated museums in Indiana, it's free by the way. It really is so immense in the catacombs you can barely get to everything in one day. Go to the top it will humble you and take your breath away. Worth the trip you will be impressed.
Rhonda Toler
Its so great two go and really learn things that some people don't know
Betsie Rosa (The Traveling Butterflies)
Nice historical landmark to visit and to remember the people who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
Michael Poling
The Indiana War Memorial sprawls over several city blocks with several monuments and other features of interest. The memorial honors U.S. Veterans, and has a lot of open greenspace. In the adjacent plaza. A great place to take the family or to visit by yourself to remember those who sacrificed so much for their Country.
Lester Prier
Was just in Indy for day trip and accidentally found this wonderful place. Amazingly beautiful building with great exhibits.
Charlene Smith
Excellent venue! Bonus was that it is FREE!

A great place to visit. Holds so much memories.
Ian Downer
I was blown away by the beauty of this memorial. It's not too far from the circle where there are other war memorials. A must see in Indianapolis.
Dan Perkins
Great place to sit and watch the world go by
Kay B
Free for entry but a donation is very much appreciated. Incredibly well maintained and laid out museum that gives accounts for the revolutionary war through Vietnam with an area that even touches on 9/11. The staff is very friendly. Overall an incredibly worthwhile visit.
Viz
A free history lesson on the involvement of Indiana in all the American wars. Worth visiting.
Ashesh Goswami
A nice place to visit if you are a tourist in Indianapolis. It looks pretty good even at night with all the lighting.
Denise Scholes
Possibly the neatest museum that I've been to. I loved the set up, the walk through time. We didn't have enough to go through the while thing so we will be back.
Ni N.
Very nice and cool structure. Seeing people coming here to exercise also!!
JC
Amazing memorial, so much to see and learn. Love the little stories of individuals and events. If you like learning about war stories, allow more than 2hrs

I visited the Indiana War Memorial for the first time and was blown away by the place. It was easy to find a parking place on a Sunday and the admission is free! The building is absolutely beautiful and a work of art. The museum details the contributions of Indiana citizens in the various wars from the Revolutionary War to current times. They have multiple displays with authentic artifacts. It is very well done. The Shrine to the U.S. Flag is insane! You can easily spend a couple of hours in here. Very impressed!
Dafne Lozano
Amazing place! I've been there once and I really want to go back again
Shruti Powers- Khandelwal
I liked coming back here. They've kept it pretty much the same since my last visit in 2012. It's completely free, and has three sections, the auditorium, the museum and the shrine. If you have kids, it's a great place and as you can see from my photos, photography is allowed. My most favorite place is the shrine as I feel very centered when I sit in that space even for a few minutes. It's generally quite empty and quite a few steps to climb, but I believe there is a ramp as well on the outside and elevator inside. The restrooms are also clean. There is no souvenir shop and everything is donated. Hope you can enjoy yourself and with you family or friends!
Rich Mayer
Perfect for those who enjoy military history or simply learning. Great exhibits throughout musuem. Definitely worth a visit whether passing through or living locally.
My Little Family
Had an amazing time with my family and friends ❤
YOOAN Yuan Zhang
Interesting place to go especially when you are traveling here and find nothing to do
Michael Craig
Very historic and beautiful to remember a that have fallen to maintsin our freedoms and rights
Sara Mickle
This is the TARDIS of museums. It is so much bigger on the inside that it looks. The exhibits are thoughtful and unique. They live up to the motto on the door, "enter with reverence, leave with pride."
Rick Doyle
So overlooked but a not to be missed Indiana site. Largest State area dedicated to Veterans. (25 acres in the heart of downtown).
Wonderful staff and never too busy and FREE. Can not recommend this place more.
Christopher Enzweiler
There is a lot of ground to cover as far as exhibits. They do have wheelchair access and you want to be strategic in timing sit-rest throughout as there are tons of artifacts to read about.
The Shrine room is massive (vertically) and dimly lit so photos may take some finagling. Also, it was quite warm this visit.
The bathrooms were a "relief", and the staff very courteous.
Russ Musselman
Awesome buildings and park area. Construction going on when we were there. Would love to come back later and check out the inside.
Rebecca Townsend
This is THE place to go if you only have time to make one stop in the Hoosier state! Beyond special. Beyond deep. This is about who we are, who we have been and who we want to be!
This is about peace and victory and fellowship. About service, sacrifice and courage.
This is about dreams that we won't be doomed to repeat history because we've taken time to understand it.
The memorial's Jennifer Watson shared a geologic history with me about the stone, which our allies shipped from all over the world as a testament to unity in fighting for right: Italy, Northern Africa, Canada,
I'm looking at a portrait of Serbian Field Marshall Radomir Putnik. The Shrine Room contains portraits of Allied generals from the US, Britain, France, Italy and Belgium.
Before appending the self-tour guide to the Shrine Room, I'll leave off with a teaser...
You'd never guess what they've got stashed in the basement!
Now, here's some info staff provided me today:
The Shrine Room
The framed lists lining the walls of both staircases leading up to the Shrine Room contain the names of Indiana’s World War I Veterans. The names with crosses next to them are those who were wounded in action, while the names with stars next to them are Hoosiers that were killed in action. At the top of the stairs you enter the Shrine Room.
The Shrine Room is 110 feet tall and 60 feet square and was constructed with materials from all over the world, symbolic of the global nature of WWI. In the center of the room, raised on a stepped marble platform is the Altar of Consecration. This altar commemorates the sacrifices made during WWI. On the sides of the altar are inscriptions by Royal Cortissoz, who also authored the inscriptions on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. The top of the altar features the American Golden Eagle, the Shield of the United States, the Wreath of Memory, the Palms of Victory, and a gold ribbon with the 1923 Pledge of Allegiance. This version of the Pledge varies slightly from today’s version.
Hanging above the shrine is the 30 foot tall garrison flag, the largest national flag used by the U.S. Army. The garrison flag is usually flown only on national holidays and special occasions. Suspended over the flag is the Star of Destiny, made entirely out of crystal. This eight pointed star, representing the eight points of a compass, and symbolically provides a guiding light home for the troops.
Moving out from the Altar, you will see sixteen 40 foot tall columns, each made from red Vermont marble. Each corner of the room contains flags from nations who assisted the Allies during the war. Some flags represent countries that no longer exist. In each cluster, the American flag is at the center.
Tucked between the marble columns on the east and west walls of the Shrine Room are six oil paintings portraying the national military commanders from the major Allied Powers of WWI: General John Pershing (American Expeditionary Forces), Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig (British Expeditionary Forces), Maréchal Ferdinand Foch (French Generalissimo of the Allied Forces), General Armando Diaz (Italian Army), King Albert I of Belgium (Belgian Army), and Marshal Radomir Putnik (Serbian Army).
The white sculpted frieze around the room tells the story of America’s involvement in WWI. On the north wall, the narrative begins with United States’ entry into the war in 1917. The east and west walls represent the war itself, and the south wall represents the peace settlement. Above the frieze, you will see the blue stained glass windows casting light into the room, as well as blue lights shining down from the stepped ceiling.
The Shrine Room was carefully designed, with close attention paid to every detail. Each color in the room represents something different. The blue lights and the blue stained glass windows represent freedom. The white in the star and in the frieze represents peace and purity. The red in the marble columns represents the ultimate sacrifice made by those WWI soldiers who never made it home. When combined these colors also are also asso

The building itself is amazing. The contents outstanding, very well done, describes all conflicts we have been in since the beginning of our country.
Alejandra Cardona
It's beautiful there. Great place for inspiration and for families to enjoy.
Jason Truitt
Amazing architecture! Wonderful museum in the basement! And don't forget to walk all the way up The Shrine Room. An Absolutely beautiful way to honor our Veterans of WW1. "The Great War".
Grace E
I have enjoyed the monuments in downtown Indy for decades. South of the World War monument is a beautiful fountain in the middle of the square. There are picnic tables, benches and a few little statutes. It is one of my favorite city parks. North of the memorial is another nice park and a lawn leading up to the downtown library.
Justin Brisbane
Beautiful at night. The light show was pretty cool
Dan Rumbley
If you enjoy history you will love the Indiana War Memorial. We visited with our grandsons ages 8 and 10 and they thought it was awesome. They especially were taken with the Shrine Room.
Valynda Monroe
Beautiful, Educational and Free! A definite must.
Zaid Shakir
Such an amazing building you can feel the US history when you enter the building
susana torres

John Norman
First time to Indianapolis and have to say I loved the historic monuments in and around the downtown area and plan to come back and finish seeing the rest of the ones I missed
Carlos Colón
AES 500 parade. Excellent experience!
Yu-Hsin H
Great exhibit! Content and layout were wonderful, with mannequins and background sound of the past that allowed an immersive learning experience.
Mark Aldrich
One of the best state War memorials I've ever seen
Chase Harker
Usually a pretty clean area. This is also a good area to park when going down town and only a short distance to the canal walk.
Ed Jernigan
This was absolutely amazing! I can't believe it was free with the amount of information, history, and artifacts on display. If you decide to visit, go to the basement first and end the tour going upstairs. I spent several hours reading the displays and didn't manage to read nearly half of what was on display. I would return without hesitation and encourage those history buffs to check this out. They could easily charge admission for this outstanding exhibit.
Kip Fulton
Impressive! The largest amount of marble, limestone and granite ever seen. Quite opulent meeting halls as well.
Jacob Clough
It's a lovely monument to visit.
Dan Hess
One of the most well done museums I've visited

John Szczepaanski
Amazing walk thru history from WWl to present. Clean and well preserved. A must visit especially for "Hoosiers". Amber was remarkably attentive to us, state Military Order of Purple Heart. She was a combat veteran. Friendly, informative and enthusiastic. Her pride in the World War Memorial was much appreciated.
Lynn Morano
Not even from Indiana and found this memorial awe inspiring.
Robert Myers
Lots of memorials, statues, fountains and open space in honor of veterans and fallen heroes. An oasis in downtown.
JeffRey
Taken care of well, history is important.
Kristina Michaud
Was under construction at the time, but was a nice walk around the park.
Rick Bassett

Alaa Awan
Nice place to grab a trail and keep walking.
Teri Nichols
We are blessed to have such a wonderful museum. Great exhibits from the Revolutionary War to the War against ISIL. The architecture is gorgeous. You will not be sorry you visited.
roundman1972 “Roundman72”
It was a nice free, donation, place to visit if your in indy and want to kill a couple of hours.
Lucas Rifkin
Very nice memorial, was refreshing to see a Civil War Monument that was not dedicated to the confederacy.
Suzy Bennett
The exhibits are fantastic and the amount of detail and the time put into each one truly reflects the heart of the heroes who served and represented Indiana! The Indiana War Memorial is a beautiful historical collection of history and honorable tributes! We will be back to visit again!
Nate Held
Stunning building inside and out. Climb the stairs to the top and whisper as you walk through what feels like a sacred place.
Great place to think. It's quiet and darkly beautiful.
Julius Mouse
This is one of the best places to take kids on a budget. Totally free museum with the entire history of Indiana's involvement in wars.
Clean facility with friendly staff and some amazing things to see.
I strongly suggest anyone to take a couple hours and wander the place. You won't be disappointed
Stuart Petersen
The building exterior and interior are beautiful. The shrine room is awe inspiring. It's a very humbling experience being inside. The museum displays are a bit dry and some come with great detail and others nearly no explanation.
Food Lover
Awesome museum! Worth the stop & leave a good donation! I wish all states had something this nice!
Laila Dike
Amazing place to learn more about our local heros
Matthew Sams
A unique treasure hidden in plain sight. This downtown landmark is chock full of historically important and rare exhibits and artifacts. The auditorium is a one of a kind look into a bygone era. Crafted in ways with materials that just aren't available today. Well worth a visit!
Carla Garza
Very interesting museum and cool monument. The people at the front desk were really kind and knowledgeable
Eamonn Flynn
Absolutely a great honour to see to all the service men and women . A must
Tyler Morton
Plenty of space to work on fitness. Great environment day or night!
jglenncw
Excellent museum in a stunning and conveniently located building downtown. The museum itself is very well laid out, with amazing and informative displays covering every conflict from pre-revolutionary times to the present day, with an emphasis on Indiana's involvement and many significant contributions. Definitely an informative, entertaining, and humbling experience. If you have any interest in history, this is a DO NOT MISS experience.
David Franklin
This is one of the best war memorials in the country. The history and architecture are really stunning. There is actually a military museum in the basement that is great. There is also a grand alter room on the top that takes your breath away. All in all, a very worthwhile place to visit.
jeannine decious
This museum has it's rooms and displays laid out very well. You can get a little lost if you aren't paying attention to the direction you're going. Lots of wonderful artifacts from over the years. I'll definitely come back time and again.
Dan Jones
Really nice quiet place to sit and read on a nice day
David Boch
Well maintained monument. Enjoyed the climb to the top observation deck - 330 steps, although it was a bit "cozy" passing people going the opposite direction in the top third or so. Great panoramic views of the city. Ground level has pretty fountains.
Brian Haller
Great experience and great exhibits going through the history of the different wars.
Michael Patience
If you're into history in any degree, you'll need several hours to go through this memorial. There is so much information, on the various wars and conflicts, that it may take days to read everything here. When visiting you must be sure to go to the sanctuary, all the way at the top. It's a very reverent, almost sacred setting. There are quite a few stairs here so it's not wheel chair / handicap accessible.
Gary Rolfes
Really nice place to meet up with friends in the summer time, to hang out and read a book or just to get some fresh air. The memorial is beautiful and the sound of the fountain is soothing. Located between the public library and the circle. It's a cool spot to skate as well, I don't know if it's against the rules and if cops or security will show but I've been lucky so far lmao.
Christopher Lacy
This a great museum to visit, free admission donations are appreciated. They have exhibits that span Indiana's involvement in our history. With new ones being completed as you're reading this review. Including a large selection of artifacts including, flags, weapons, uniforms, documents, medals, and many other interesting things. These are not reproductions but actual items from history along with the stories of the people who lived the history.
Bring your camera, as there is a lot to see.
Rochele Jones
This was a beautiful yet emotionally heartwarming event.
Ray Lemar
On par with the national monuments in Washington D.C , this memorial Is a appropriate tribute. Wonderful vies of downtown Indianapolis all the while reflecting on the true cost of freedom.
Nick Perkins
Impressive educational museum! Also, a great spot to sit atop and relax while enjoying views. Running up and down the stairs repetitively is a common practice here.
Darrell Hall
There is so much to see in such an amazing building! I will be going back!
allen bell
Amazing structure! Great for exercise and sight seeing! This is one of those building in Indianapolis that gives the downtown area it's character! a Great place to park and walk down to the nightlife just to avoid the congestion but only if you have a walking buddy! This place is sometimes home to the homeless.
Ted Hubbard
I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of reverence that is present there. The architecture and exhibits are all well done. The shrine was breathtaking. Kudos to the designers, caretakers and those that have donated their time and possessions to this wonderful memorial. May we always remember those that have fought and continue to fight for our country and it's freedoms.
Fishing with the Riverbillies
This was a real blast from the past. Coupled with the soldiers and sailors monument downtown. What an awesome experience.
richard harris
Awesome place to visit and it was free to get in we did our entire family and the kids were very amazed I recommend that you go and please don't forget to do the top level of the building you will be amazed
Austin Graff
The Indiana War Memorial is THE monument to see in Indy and it's hard to miss. It anchors the downtown and can be seen from all parts of the city.
The architecture of it is impressive and you can even go inside and up during on season.
My toddler loved climbing the steps up to it and I enjoyed photographing it.
Kelli Hutchins
Remembering our past is how we can help improve our future. Beautiful place full of historic items. It is so big you could spend the entire day just looking at all the exhibits! No room to be bored..great for the whole family!
Darren Howell
This place is immaculate! I had no idea how grand and vast it was inside! Free admission. We even decided to choose the auditorium for our wedding venue! They offer a discount for Veterans. I would definitely recommend going on a weekend or day off!🇺🇸 …
Jean Davenport12
First time ever visit here. Attended a military memorial service. It is truly an awesome place to see! I would like to come back to see more displays, etc.
Lisa Pajkos
This has to be one of the most breathtaking war memorials that I have seen. this war memorial rivals those in Washington DC. It is absolutely breathtaking and informative. Chalked full of real artifacts, and informative details, there is nothing this memorial leaves out! This is definitely worth the trip for any individual, student, wanting to know more about our country's history.
Trenton Snyder
This is one of the most beautiful, interesting, and humbling places in the area. It's extremely well kept and organized. If you're a history buff, or just interested in history, be sure to stop by the Indiana World War Memorial. We visited yesterday and are already planning a day to go back.
Wicky “Wicky Lightyear” Lightyear
This is a rather large and beautifull park. It is usually clean and we kept. There is nothing for the kids to do here besides run around. The park does have a large bum population, so stay away at night.
Rick Blake
Very underappreciated museum with a great deal of history regarding the wars this nation has faced since being founded. Realize it goes on and on so consider repeat visits to delve into particular eras. The memorial room itself is stunning and worth a visit all by itself - though also a good place to reflect on our history.
Shawn Roy
Awesome building right downtown that few people in Indiana check out. Amazing architecture especially inside and in the top floor. There is a amazing museum inside too. Worth any donation you give them.
Trevor Guthrie
Beautiful memorial very well done and very reverent! It was time well spent. Even with kids.
Hideki S
A really fantastic collection of war memorabilia and artifacts...a truly breathtaking shrine and wonderfully peaceful interiors. A MUST SEE when visiting Indy. The building outside is truly gorgeous... the interiors are equally so.
A hidden gem for those interested in history and warfare.
Ryan Miller
One of the more 'iconic' monuments in Indianapolis this is just one of many must sees when downtown. The architecture is amazing with the bronze doors and overlooks a mall that faces towards the main library. This entire area is great on warm days just to relax or enjoy the mall. Be sure to go up the stairs and take in as much of the history that is here....truly an amazing part of dedication to American History.
Autumn Wisely
Very cool place full of so much history and information. A great place to visit this weekend to get a reality check on what Memorial Day is truly about. All the things information and names gives a different outlook on those who have given there lives for our government. It brings them home and closer to your heart instead of just a thought that can be so far out of touch. I think everyone will find something there that will make them glad they showed up to experience life and death first hand.
James Hall
Visit and be amazed. It’s not that it’s the greatest museum in the world but it’s free and easy. There is a ton of great pieces from all US wars. A few really surprising things. And a helicopter! Who knew!? The memorial room at the top is the coolest room in Indianapolis. It is somber and humbling. Don’t overlook this place.
Sean Huberty
incredible disolay. There's lots here to see.
David Miller
Free admission, donations accepted. Well worth the time to see.
The people of Indiana have a storied history of service to our nation. This memorial and museum is a tribute to them and to all who have served in our armed forces.
The museum is much more extensive than I expected. We were only able to spend about an hour here, but I could have easily spent four or more hours looking at the displays and reading about the history presented.
John Guglielmi
A memorial in the heart of Indianapolis. Three thousand square foot museum that has exhibits from War of Independence to present.
Matthew Beaverson
A most beautiful memorial that provides a free experience that is incredibly valuable. The walk through each war and it’s corresponding placards and figures, is entertaining and intelectual. My favorite part of the whole place is the “shrine room.” Walking upstairs into this space was genuinely breathtaking. This memorial inspired reverence and gratitude, but also immense pride for what our country has achieved and all the men and women who’ve worked hard for it.
Philip
Best place to visit in Indy, and it's free. My grandpa's name is on the list of names in the stairwell. Cool.
anthony belfiore
Awesome memorial. Well worth the 2 hours I spent walking through. Could have spent more time but it was closing time. Very well done memorial with the museum.
Daniel Cromwell JR
This is one of my favorite places to go downtown. It's always so clean and there's so many people. The field is very big and sometimes there are people playing with their dogs. Please be sure to bring bags!
Dennis Ellison
The Memorial is a great place to spend time and learn history of armed forces from Indiana. The architecture of the building is magnificent to look at.
Christine Comer
Our guide Rich was amazing! So knowledgeable and fun.
Steven Toth
Excellent (free $) museum that remembers all of our fallen soldiers and documents the historic battles and conflicts. It's well worth a visit and it's only a couple of minutes walk from the center of town. It's a beautiful building and hard to miss from the street.
Skyler Ervin
A must visit attraction and memorial when in indy!
Kimberly Horne
This is a beautiful structure - no doubt about it. However, it can be very dangerous for kids. There are a lot of stairs. There are a lot of places where kids can climb, and, unfortunately, could fall a long way. We didn’t see any hours posted. We were very curious as to what was inside, but saw no information about that, either. Some views from the top are very nice, while others are obstructed by nearby buildings.
Mike Lipe
Indianapolis's best kept secret.
Steven
Impressive outer structure. Did not know you could go inside until we walked around it. Even more impressive on the inside. It would cost billions to build today. One of the best military museums that I have ever seen. The shrine on the top floor is mind blowing!
Joel T Harter
This is the most beautiful place in downtown Indianapolis. There is a war museum inside the structure, as well as an auditorium. The shrine room in the to part is a vast open space, silent, and dimly lit with blue lights, conveying a sense of reverence for the fallen heroes.
The steps are great for a workout. It's also a good place for a picnic or lunch date.
Ron Fields Jr
So much to see in this museum. If you take your time and look around it could easily take 3-4 hours. Some exhibits are showing thier age but that doesn't deter from the experience. This is a must see place
Mikaela York
This is an amazing place to go to learn about wars that America was involved in. it is a free museum by donation and I would give yourself 2 hours to do it. Outside the museum there is monuments which are also spectacular. The front desk people were very welcoming and helpful.
CAGrunt
FANTASTIC place! Great timeline of American military history that pertains not only to Indiana, but the U.S. as well. The Shrine Room is breathtaking and demands reverence-you'll understand when you get there. Extremely well done! A MUST SEE if you're a supporter of our armed forces or a student of American, and Indiana, military history.
Connie Williams
I took my 7 year old grandson with me ,he enjoyed seeing all the things and listening to the audio description of all the weapons.
Mary Mangan
Incredible. It rivals memorials in Europe.
Clemens Heller
Not really obvious from the outside, but inside there is a really interesting museum, about American war history. Also there is a very impressive shrine upstairs, that you should definitely visit. There is no entrance fee.
Fred Bishop
Beautiful building inside! Fantastic museum of war history-very well done! Several memorabilia found no where else! The museum is free, but you'll need to check times when it is open.
Brad -LaFamiglia CaneCorso
The monuments and historical factors were awesome. The historical value was excellent and very factual. The views from the park were full of splendor. The 1 downfall of this park was not a result of the planning, but the environment. The park was over run with homeless people and the area smelled strongly of urine. It detracted from our experience. I wouldn't go down there alone, especially as a female.
Ethan Fahrney
Cool spot. Beautiful building. We went through the museum backwards (Starting with Iraq and ending with Rev War) because there wasn't clear signage but that didn't detract from the experience. The helicopter inside was really cool.
Joel Monka
The shrine in the upper story is a significant emotional experience. The museum below is great- not just displays of things, but the history and the personal stories too, both in writing and on video.
Rachelle Wuellner
This was an amazing experience. Very educational and well presented.
Trent Brink
This place will put you in a state of silent awe and wonder. It is a large war museum that shows Indiana's involvement in past wars. I agree with the other reviewers in that this place in under rated. Take the time to come visit. You can spend 30 minutes or a full day here.
William Fahrney
A very nice museum with some really great displays that are geared towards those that have served from the State of Indiana. My favorite display was located behind the helicopter and told the story of a solder that earned the Congressional Medal Honor. The video, audio, and display was excellent.
Moriah Fagan
Been here multiple times over the years. Beautiful building and well thiught out displays to show history. Top floor is a must-see, absolutely awe inspiring.
Xikang Zhao
I.can clearly tell the respect to the army forces.
Sarah Shaw
Free admission! That's the best part. Family friendly. Great museum with tons of exhibits and signs. Bathrooms are nice as well. Would go again because it's so cool! :)
Jerry Boyd
This was a great place to visit! There was so much history it was amazing! Very interesting at all aspects. The staff was extremely friendly and the monument was very beautiful! I would recommend to anyone to go here! Admission is free also!
Gary Madison
Once I start working the steps with my cognitive therapy harp playing either sat or sun it will be good. Gotta lose 20 pounds in the next 3 weeks
Kyle Kent
This is one of my favorite places to visit in Indy. My fiancee and I got our engagement photos done here, and it's one of the first places we visited when we first started seeing each other. Great architecture, close to a lot of food and entertainment, yet still feels secluded like a park.
Krish M
I have to say I was shocked at the monuments and historical buildings that Indianapolis had, beautiful architecture, very clean city and above all this was a amazing monument to see
Matt Walters
I was really surprised by the interior of the memorial. I did not expect the museum to be nearly as large as it was, and it had a lot of content. Then I was very taken back by the shrine room at the top. I never would have guessed that was there. Definitely a worthwhile trip.
Jowanna Peterson
Beautiful memorial to our veterans especially of the WW1 era. Remarkable recreated scenes and memorabilia of wars past and present. I was in total awe! Best of all admission is free. Not to be missed, a must see, may be boring somewhat for children under 10 years of age.
Sharice Lewis
I got to be part of an event held at the museum and it was wonderful. The staff was amazing. The museum was wonderfully detailed. A little over the top with the marble. The theater was particularly impressive. I live museums and this is one of my favorites.
Graham Hunter
Absolutely amazing! If you love history you have to spend a few hours here. Really you could spend one whole day. I brought my mom who is a history buff and she loved it. Must see!
Leah Wood
The museum here blew me away. It's completely free, but I would have gladly paid money to visit. Whether you're an Indy native or just passing through, this place is worth a few hours of your day.
Richard B
This is an amazing museum. For a limited time, the traveling 9/11 exhibit is housed here. Definitely well with a long visit.
The Shrine Room is awe-inspiring.
Sandra Sandra
Free to public and wonderful place to reflect on American history😊 …
Gary McKay
Indiana has an interesting past dating back to the civil war. Fun museum, great way to spend the afternoon. Don't miss the WW 1 display up the flight of stairs from the main entrance, very beautiful and peaceful.
Theresa Mcmeans
It's a nice place to visit we loved the imax theater
Brian Hammett
This is a great place for all Hoosiers to see what their fellow Hoosiers have done in the past for this country. Starting in the Revolution War and continuing up until today's war on terrorism, it shows how our country has changed over the 200+ years of existence. The primary purpose is to remember and celebrate those who fought in the First World War. It does this well with the memorial chamber at the top of the building. I highly recommend a visit here for all central Indiana citizens.
Jonathan
Very interesting monument located right in downtown Indianapolis. I visited on a Friday morning and only saw 1 other person the whole time I was there. They have a world war museum that winds around the building and starts with very early America all the way to a 9/11 area. Then you can go up to the large area that occupies the major mass of the building. Very beautiful room with a decorated shrine. Make sure you carve out a few hours for your visit!
Kristopher Good
This is a hidden jewel that really deserves more notoriety. Its FREE & has some amazing artifacts. Then pay a couple dollars to ride the elevator & go to the observation deck at the top. This really is an underappreciated attraction.
Danica Minor
Great and free museum to visit in Indy. The climb to the top is amazing.
Shannon Burns Molleo
Shrine room was truly surreal experience and not to be missed if you visit. The architecture of the entire building is incredible and the space is packed with historic artifacts and ample information.
Jay Young
They have a cobra attack helicopter inside !!!!This is one of the best places in Indianapolis. I love it here !! Beautiful architecture never crouded. Great exhibits !! ITS FREE !! never a bad place to spend a few hours looking at some weapons and history of the state.
Martin Cabela
Beautiful landmark and tribute to our veterans. Auditorium, meeting rooms and museum. Safe place, officers inside, they don't frisk you but they don't allow bags, food or drinks.
Ken P
The building was based on a Greek mausoleum that was one of the seven wonders of the world.
Ten minutes in the Shrine Room will remind you of what it means to serve a greater cause.
It's open seven days a week and it costs nothing. If you're visiting Indy, go. If you live in Indy, why haven't you already gone?
Faith A. Evans
I'm a
N Indy native so this is a memorial that I've seen my entire life and there's not much to be said. But it is kept very clean I can complain about it visually eother. There used to be so many homeless people downtown and now I don't see as many I pray they are alive and getting on their feet.
David Duffany
A great place to see if you're in town.
Ron Baioni
Inside part was closed when we were there so be sure to check that out on your visit. Otherwise an excellent tribute to those who served in the armed forces. Parking was easy and affordable. Lots of food and drink in walking distance. And seemed like a very safe area.
thomas buchler
What an amazing experience. The exhibits were compelling. The staff here were kind and helpful. There is no cost to enter and enjoy the rich history housed here.
Andy Rogers
Had a great time me and my wife were there for the Irreverent Warrior event. The staff were great and found out some great facts about WWI and WWII.
Chris Coates
Hey for real I've lived here my whole life. Yet, every time I go to one of our historic sites, I'm constantly I'm impressed with the history of our State, and the beautiful works of art that we could accomplish. It's good to look at the past, so that we don't commit the same mistakes.
Aaron Lawson
Great historical monument. One of Indy's best kept secrets hidden right under our noses! Beautiful, free memorial museum complete with a humvee, Huey helicopter and so many authentic artifacts from Indiana and America's rich history.
Clay Evers
Excellent. Very moving
Skud Missal
I can't say much about the inside since i haven't been, but there is a poke nest or two here, plus a gym and a few pokestops. This spot and memorial Park are both worth a visit for an avid P-Goer.
AW Gambino PhD
The most impressive place I've seen in some time. From the outside to the inside, this building will take you back to a time, when life was about bold, gold, glamour, and marble. Visit this war museum, it's not like any other place around.
DL WEBB
Had the privilege to drive these guys here .. the only living Survivors of WWII who served on the USS Indianapolis.
Warren Thompson
A must see if your not the area. Was very impressive to see the display of history provided.

Koen De Vuyst
Museum was free and was really informative. Nice chronological overview of Indiana military history. Make sure you take the steps up to the shrine. And enjoy the silence.
R S Gill
Very beautiful building. It's not immediately obvious but there is a museum inside that is pretty good. Lots of interesting military information that one would not readily associate with Indiana, like the B-2 Spirit bomber for example.
Escobaria Gracilis
Impressive and well maintained monument and grounds.
Alexis G
The best military museum I have ever seen!
Curt Alexander
Beautiful structure. The whole area is very visitor friendly and clean.
Steven Jagnandan
A sight to see if your in the area
Jeremy Newcomer
Museum inside this beautiful building. If you are a person who is interested in history of wars this would be a good place to visit.
Michael S
A hidden gem in downtown Indianapolis. Free admission to a huge museum covering the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts. Outstanding artifacts and displays. Obviously a lot of attention is given to Indiana Vets and their service, and the USS Indianapolis as well. Small kids might not be able to appreciate it as much because there is very little interactive exhibits, but the displays are well done with detailed information.
Francisco Friedl
This was a wonderful memorial. It is a must see if coming to Indianapolis for any reason. Simply stunning.
Robert Anderson
Fantastic free museum. Our young kids enjoyed it too.
James “God is in TOTAL Control” Woodson
Very nice museum as it pertains to the military history of Indiana
Amy England
Definitely worth checking out!!
Tim Smith
Very awesome place to visit, if you are interested in military history at all. They do a world war 2 re-enactment over Labor Day weekend, unfortunately we weren’t able to make that this year.
Brandon Clark
This is one of the most impressive museums I've ever been in. I would love to spend more time there.

Michelle Lycett
This memorial is very well done. It is a must see if your in Indianapolis. Just a heads up they are doing so renovations on the outside, but they are still opened.
Caleb Wilson
Very nice place. I recommend this place.
Airin Wesley
One of our nation's greatest historical landmarks. And what a great honor it was for me to be able to see it in person. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who is interested in our nation's history.

Its free. Warning no backbacks and bottled drinks even for baby just saying :D
Brandon Walker
Awesome tribute and memorial to our soldiers and veterans in downtown Indianapolis, IN. Very nice park with very nice views and many attractions in walking distance.
Kurt Nelson
There is a lot more to this museum than I expected (quantity and quality)! They do a great job of not just presenting artifacts, but using them to tell the story of individual veterans.
Chrissy B.40
The city just put all the flags up , & I think it looks great. Plus its thoughtful cause each flag has a message on it to a military person that has passed while fighting or still fighting for this country.
Mickey
Beautifully designed and gorgeous monuments
Steve Murphy
Breathtaking. Very thankful for those who fought for justice, righteousness, and love.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
May we continue to fight for these values.
Johan Pizani
Beautiful place and view... I loved it. My tip is go to bathroom before go there because there os not any close to this.
Will Shell
This place is a good learning place.. any one that's known someone that's served from Indiana should see this place.
Jeremy Plummer
Beautiful monument. Great spot for family portraits.
