A very beautiful place to visit. The statue is called Makua and Kila. It's based on the children's book written by Fred Van Dyke called Makua lives on the beach. The book is about a boy who befriends a Hawaiian Monk seal that becomes his surfing buddy.

Probably my shortest review, but worth knowing about when walking by it. It's a nice little statue of the children's story called Makua lives on the beach, which was written by Fred Van Dyke. This was sculpted by Holly Young, and it is something you can take some cool pictures of. Enjoy the beaches nearby, and the Waikiki Wall!

While walking through the shoreline we encountered the public art, Makua and Kila, a surfer and a seal, on Kuhio Beach, Honolulu... Absolutely gorgeous, very appropriate... Highly recommend visiting!

While the sculpture and plque are very nice, the water is dirty and plywood coceals the pump I guess. I wish the water was clear in this conspicuous public place!

It's a fine statue.

Very good waves for beginners to do bodyboarding along the boy's statue street. A lot of local boys are also surfing. If you don't have a board, buy one at ABC nearby and try surfing ^ _ ^
