My wife and I went Foster Botanical Gardens and spent a couple of hours enjoying the flowers, plants and wildlife here. A lot of trees and plants and flowers located here. We loved the birds and reptiles (little geckos) around the gardens. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the gardens. The butterfly garden is a very nice area to do this.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon, in October, when our cruise ship docked at Aloha Tower. It was an easy 20mins walk from the ship. The garden wasn’t busy which was a pleasant surprise. We spent a whole hour wandering around, saw some trees we never knew existed 😱 The flowering Cannonball tree is a strange sight. There were a wide variety of orchids on display and there were butterflies and birds too. If you sit quietly on a bench the birds will come close. I do recommend sun protection and mosquito repellent (got bitten while resting on a bench in the shade).
The restrooms are clean and well maintained.
We loved our visit to this lovely place.

Great little gem just off Chinatown. $10 per person entry. You get a map and bird guide. Easily walkable, minor steps otherwise mostly level. No homeless camping in here, guessing because of the fee. Lots of shade and benches to sit. Easy parking and easy walking to bus lines.

Beautiful place to relax and smell the flowers -literally. Lots of beautiful and exotic orchids.
Large trees and they have different sections like palm tree section, foods section - they have a cinnamon tree, macadamia tree, herbs and a buddha’s hand tree.
Parking is free. Entrance fee at a discounted rate with Hawaii ID.
Jenifer Huynh
Beautiful garden. Well keeped and a great stop away from tourist stuff. Get there early, parking is on site. There are bathrooms available inside garden as well. $5 for visitors and $3 for locals. You can take a lunch and have a picnic.

Amazing gem in the heart of Honolulu. Very much worth the entry fee for plant lovers and others alike. Also a good stop for history lovers. Small gift shop on site. This is where you want to go if you would like a view of the corpse flower. Also has a nice butterfly garden!

Visited Jan 18 & 27 2022.
We have been here twice on our vacation so far.
Such beautiful gardens on the beautiful island of Oahu Hawaii. Love the amazing information this botanical garden provides while walking through the garden. Just bought a yearly pass for a very reasonable price I love the abundance of butterflies.
Took photos even while walking on the outside perimeter of the garden.
The cashier was cheerful and friendly.

Incredible botanical gardens with some of the most amazing tropical trees I've ever seen. In addition to the trees and plants, the plethora of butterflies and bees really brings the place to life. $5 entry fee.
cindy amimer
Without blooming flowers (except in the conservatory) at this time of year, Foster Botanical Garden still looks appealing with a variety of tropical plants and vegetations. In some areas, you feel like being in a tropical jungle or forest; in other parts, you sense the atmosphere of an old Japanese garden.
Kristen Tordella-Williams
Well worth the 5$ admission to support this stellar botanical garden. Plenty to explore and enjoy from Hawaii and beyond! I especially loved the gargantuan trees and varieties of palm and orchids. Plant lovers must see!
Chengxiang Yuan
A small but well laid out garden near the city center. Despite its size, the garden includes a surprisingly large variety of unusual plants. There is also a greenhouse conservatory with beautiful orchids, a stone Buddha, and a butterfly garden. $5 entry fee, $3 for locals.
Jen B.
Me and my family had a pleasant experience here. We went on a sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. They give you a map upon entering. There is a small fee to get in. We only spent maybe an hour here. There were alot of interesting plants and such amazingly tall palm trees!
S Moore
Easy going pretty place to meander, listen to the birds and take in the tropical scenery. Saw families having sandwiches and couples relaxing on the benches. There's a washroom in the gardens to your left.
Shawna Yoder
Normally I would give this place 5 stars, but, unfortunately they had some of the areas roped off today, so had to remove a star. It's still totally worth checking out though. Beautiful and cool flowers and plants.
Theresa Lima
Beautiful botanical gardens with a waterfall at the end of your leisurely stroll. We brought our suits and swam around for a bit. They also sell food so you can make a day of it.
TIffany Isaacson
Saw trees and flowers that I have never seen before. Lovely location, so many beautiful flowers and a variety of trees, all labeled. If you can only see one Botanical Garden, this is the one!!!
Tia Langley
A lovely little spot! We visited these botanical gardens while on our honeymoon. We loved the economic garden, the butterfly garden, and the green house. We saw so many butterflies and geckos. Super affordable too, we definitely recommend stopping here!
Ashly Yeo
Not much variety in terms of botanical species but there are some pretty interesting ones like the kapok and quipo trees. The butterfly garden on the day we visited had maybe 3 butterflies. Perhaps it's late fall or simply not the right time. Overall the place is extremely well kept, serene and organized which makes it a good place to unwind, refocus and refresh.

Just an amazing, peaceful, quiet place in the middle of Honolulu. Quite the contrast to the busy tourist areas and I thought the visit was well worth it. Thank you! Or should I say mahalo!
Tina Rodwilk
Wonderful historical gardens and grounds close to Waikiki - nice walk. Many older large trees including palms. Butterfly garden, vegetable and fruit trees. Be sure to visit the conservatory.
Istvan Molnar-Szakacs
An oasis in the middle of bustling Honolulu, this place is serene and gorgeous. Great for a leisurely stroll, it’s not too big but has beautiful orchids, palm orchard and stunning trees, including a tree grown from a cutting of Buddha’s Bodhi tree. A guide to birds and special plants is provided and there is parking and restrooms on site.
Nathan Marchack
TLDR: some of the most amazing trees you will see on the island.
The diversity of Oahu’s botanic gardens cannot be overstated. Koko crater features a xeric landscape with pachypodiums, Arabian palms and magnificent cacti. Foster’s calling card are the trees, many of which were deemed culturally significant and so are preserved permanently by the government. There is a ficus religiosa taken from a cutting of a tree planted in Sri Lanka in 288 BC (!), ginormous baobab, quipo, kapok and silk trees, an impressive cycad collection, and various culinary/economic items (dates, breadfruit, black pepper, cannonball tree etc). There’s even a rare double coconut (coco de mer) that they pollinated using another specimen from Singapore, and now have several seedlings planted. Just amazing. The conservatory has orchids and some rare cultivars but it’s pretty tiny, but all in all anyplace you can hug a 100 foot tall tree is 5 stars in my book.

Gorgeous, a perfect little oasis in the middle of Honolulu. A hidden gem full of beautiful flowers. A must, put it on your to do list 💗 …
Greg Brandt
The Foster Botanical Garden is a beautiful oasis in the middle of downtown Honolulu. The gardens are very well-maintained and the greenery is gorgeous. The self-guided tour is perfect for a 90 minute walk through the different terraces and gardens. There are so many types of palm trees and flowers. This is a lovely complement to the nature seen at the beaches. Foster Botanical Garden is a must-see if you like nature and different types of plants.

It was a nice day when we visited. There was a small wedding, not crowded, very relax environment. Good place to take pix a there are quite a few good background. Would come back.
Helen W.
Great botanical garden close to Waikiki. They provide an informative map of all the important plants and trees. The map also explained how each plant is used by the Polynesian people which was fascinating to learn.
It costs $5 per person and parking is free.
Manish Kunder
It was an amazing experience. Got to learn more about local trees and plants . There were lots of birds which felt really awesome.
Nina Jones (Ron and Nina Jones)
Really beautiful and fascinating garden. Has some construction going on currently. Looking gorward to returning to finish exploring the entire garden.
Todd Junck
This was a beautiful botanical garden and I would highly recommend it. Only $5 to enter and they had such an incredible array of tropical plants and flowers. Small enough you can spend one to two hours there and see everything. Lots to enjoy and wonderful photo opportunities as well.
Dustin Bennett
This is a great place to visit to see some beautiful things. It's inexpensive for non-residents which is great and you also get to learn a little history on the plants, trees, and flowers you're looking at. Would certainly recommend to anyone interested in that stuff.
Steve H
This is a large diverse botanical garden in Honolulu. Entry fee is minimal. Trees, flowering plants, butterflies, birds oh my.
Kelly Young
I (Kelly Anne Young, age 50 years old) totally LOVED visiting Foster Botanical Garden today (January.16th,2022) in Honolulu, Hawaii...I'm going to visit again someday,🙂! …
Robert Swindle
Very nice garden mostly about the trees on Hawaii but some very beautiful flowering plants and orchard gardens. It is not far from wahahikiki area.
Audrey Rygmyr
A cute, little botanical garden in Honolulu. Lots of tree varieties and beautiful flowers. Two hours should be plenty of time to visit and see it all
Rebecca Yavner, REALTOR (Grayson County Lifestyle)
For the cost of $5 per non-resident, this is a great deal. It is a gorgeous Botanical Garden in a gorgeous setting.
Kenia Sciarrilli
Kamaina admission and they have a community garden which is amazing. Tons of plants and flowers.
Julie de Cotret
Absolutely beautiful! Peaceful and calm too, a lot of birds and butterflies present! I loved doing the self tour and lesrning about the plants. Taking my time and taking a good amount of pictures took me around 2 hours! Do not miss the green house there is great flowers over there!
Albert Ding
Amazing plants! The beauty of the flowers. The size of the various trees. The exotic fruit trees. Simply amazing.
Sulley s
This is a very beautiful place to come and enjoy the beauty of nature and birds, butterflies - to become one with nature
Laura Jiménez
It is a small garden but totally worth the visit. They have a very nice collection of orchids and impressive trees. Go support this botanical garden!
L T
Quaint and relaxing botanical garden, you can enter with a very nominal admission fee. Once inside, you'll forget that you're near downtown and busy streets. Conservatory is on the smaller side. Some areas were taped off to protect the plants/trees but also made navigating the sections a little more difficult. There are benches throughout the garden.
The garden is small so you can see everything in less than an hour (leisurely walking) but is also nice and quiet to hang out and enjoy the fresh air.
Magical Pancake
The place is much bigger than it seems on the map. Lots of amazing plants and trees. Plenty of open places to sit and have a picnic. The admission fee was so reasonable we decided to buy a family pass. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys plants!
Rikesh Patel
For $5 entry I would suggest the Diamond Crater Hike. Even though the history was deep the garden was not that impressive. We was in and out within 20 minutes.
Erica Stuber
Lovely place to wander and see all the beauty Oahu has to offer.
Brian Beckett
This is an amazing little getaway tucked into the heart of Honolulu. Amazing plant life to see! Awesome for a small picnic. Go and Escape for an hour or so!
lisa fruichantie
Plan for a leisurely 1 to 2 hours here to marvel and stroll this lushly curated garden.
B. Simpao
Nice place to relax and walk around but I wish there's more flowers.
Sonia Saldavia
Enjoyed the unique butterflies and shade of trees. Spent the afternoon on delight for only $5 each. Gift shop has water and fun gifts, as well.
Aaron Swerdlin
Small botanical garden that has meant unique species of trees. We stopped in for a quick 45 min trip before our flight back to the mainland and at $5/ticket it was money well spent. Don’t expect too much pristine grooming but do expect to see some amazing 100+ year old trees that are truly breathtaking. There’s quite a few pesky mosquitoes due to the humidity so prepare for that. Overall it’s a great place to spend some time with nature for an hour or so.
Alex Abanes
Such a beautiful place. Easy to get to, inexpensive and amazing scenery.
Favorite part was the butterfly gardens. Loved seeing them flying around.
Bring your little ones and enjoy the day.
Sandra Larson
Such a beautiful preserve right in Honolulu! We saw many varieties of orchids, Palms, and typical plants! It is a glorious place to relax and enjoy the day on one of the many benches throughout the gardens!
Eros
its ok! to be honest, I was waiting for days to see unique plants etc. it was more like walk on your own and look around. I honestly thought they could do better, even the Denver botanical gardens are amazing. the gift shop is lame at best. It did not meet my expectations, I do however love it is 5 bucks!
George Matthews
Lovely little botanical garden (more an arboretum with plants in my opinion, but who am I to say) priced right ($10 for me and my wife). Not very big (you can walk through it in about an hour), but home to some of the oldest trees in the United States.
Deb
Went on a rainy day, so not the best experience. Some paths /areas inaccessible due to repairs. Did not see any butterflies in the area and not many birds off the brochure. The glasshouse was quite small and very average. Felt the $5 per person quite expensive. Maybe just spoiled with the beautiful trees and parks back in NZ.
Hayley A.
The palm garden was my favourite part! So many different varieties of palms 🌴
Martha Flores
Beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. There's a lot of under construction sections, I'm sure it will be fantastic when finished.
Mary Reed
The Foster Botanical Garden is one of our favorite stops in Honolulu. It's so peaceful with the winding paths and chirping birds. It's small enough to not feel overwhelmed and it's close to Honolulu city center.
Brandon Richardson
Beautiful flowers and diverse trees. Flora is well labeled. You receive a guide with numbered descriptions corresponding to numbers on different flora througout the botanical gardens.
Nicholas Fasola
Very nice place where to spend 1 hour for 5 dollars.
Steve Murawski
Great little sanctuary in Honolulu. Wonderful old trees and a variety of other trees and shrubs. Not very many were flowering while we were there, but that could be the time of year. There were a number of orchids and other flowers in the conservatory.
Last, but definitely not the least, is a rainbow eucalyptus. It was tough to get good pictures due to the time of day and angle of the sun, but it was very pretty.
Audrey Ha
Great lush garden full of beautiful foliage and varying trees. Cute little conservatory housing different orchids and leaf hybrids. I loved listening to the bird songs that were all around and the butterfly garden is great. Definitely worth $5 just to come see the cannonball tree and rainbow eucalyptus. ($3 for residents, $25 for a year pass) The paper map they give you is easy to navigate and informative. I'll definitely be back often!
Rebecca Messina
Beautiful. Lovely landscaping. A nice relaxing escape in the middle of a bustling city. Beauty everywhere, and you can stay and wander the grounds as long as you like. They also have a guided tour at 10:30, it's recommend calling in advance to secure your spot. Picture just can't even begin to express the beauty.
Kimberlyn James
My first botanical garden to have ever visited and I truly enjoyed my experience. I mean look at these pictures! Plants are very well taken care of. I love the set up. It’s a place you must visit while in Hawaii.
Katherine Aumer
An incredible display of a variety of plants, birds, and butterflies. The place is nestled along two busy streets including a highway. The entrance is on Vineyard after passing the sign if heading Ewa. The price is reasonable for children and for adults both kama‘aina and tourist/visitor. The grounds are well maintained and the area has many wonderful areas to explore and roam. This is a wonderful gem in the busy city.
Emily
Nice. A bit funky, great trees!
A “HIWahine” M
I went there for the Arbor Day tree give away. I was pleased and impressed with how organized this year/site was. Upon entering, there was a tent passing out #'s per household so that way you were able to enjoy the garden while waiting, instead of standing in a long line. Which is what happened the last time I went to an arbor's day event many years ago.
The garden itself is a hidden gem in the middle of town. There's a wide array of plants. From towering palm trees, climbing vines, delicate flowers, there's no short in things to discover in this unexpected piece of nature in the middle of the concrete jungle.
Also there are different little seating areas, small benches and picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy your surroundings. Like an escape from the hustle and bustle of traffic, buildings, and noise that's just yards away. My favorite thing would probably be the bamboo, oh and the song bird with the sweetest yet intricate sound. Not to sure of its name though.
Although I didn't have to pay to get in because of the event. I do believe that there is an entrance fee during normal business hours.
Lei Wang
The only non-free botanical garden in the island, great to take photos with little walk.
WaikikiLadyZ
Nice place to feel out of the city. Went at 3:00. They close at 4:00. Saw a handful of others enjoying the property. Took dozens of pictures. Butterflies and orchids are amazing. The trees and outdoor plants honestly feel like you are up in the hills. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I will be going back again.
Raquel Nelson
WE went to 3 botanical gardens in Oahu and this was THE BEST of all of them. And the best of any botanical garden in the states that we have been to. We saw SO many birds and lizards and the trees are incredible. The grass is so soft you could walk on it with just your feet. I am not uploaded all of the photos of the TREES because you will just have to go see for yourself. I would literally bet anyone $100 that they will be amazed when they come to this place and I would be rich.
Diamond Payne
Beautiful! An oasis in the middle of bustling Chinatown. Small enough to get through the whole thing in about an hour, but still big enough to be tranquil and quiet.
Kalle Michele
This place is beautiful. Defiantly a great place to spend a few hours enjoying nature and all the beautiful plant life around you. When I spent I walked around for at least two and half hours and could have walked around more but I was hungry. There is a small admission fee, if you are a local resident it is slightly cheaper, it was only 7 bucks around for two people.
Jenn Mac
Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was free, which is always amazing in Honolulu. Admission was only $5 and they do offer a daily tour at 1030 that’s no further cost. The plants were beautiful. They’re well labeled and there is also extra tidbits about certain plants on the map. It’s a bit smaller than some of the other gardens on O’ahu, but they really did manage to pack a large selection in there.
Zoe Bennett 444
Foster Botanical Garden in Honolulu is so lovely. It has a small admission fee to assist in maintaining the grounds. You feel the drop in temperature which was most welcoming as it was a hot day.
Make sure you see the Bodhi Tree - it is a direct clone descendant of the tree that Buddha sat under 😮 You are surrounded by amazing trees and plants and the day we went butterflies 😊. We had our lunch sitting on the grass and then took a pleasant stroll around the grounds. There are enormous trees here 😮 you really need to see them in person to appreciate how big and tall they are.
If you are fan of Orchids, they have a lovely range.
A. Hutto
Nice place to take a walk and have a picnic. Plenty of grassy spaces with shade for spreading out a blanket. Also lots of little benches if you want to sit around and enjoy the sounds of nature.
Melissa Lawrence
Nice and helpful staff. They have many different species of plants and many are marked with scientific and Hawaiian/common name. Saw a few of the signs were broken or old with some fading but they had good info on them.
Rained this morning so the grounds were a bit muddy and saw some mosquitos so think ahead on like days (bring appropriate shoes and bug repellent).
Aubrey Behrends
This is a nicely laid out garden in the heart of Honolulu. Free parking is available as well as umbrellas if it's raining. Most plants are labeled. Make sure you check out the conservatory, Canon ball tree & double coconut trees. Plan on about an hour to tour the grounds. Open 9-5 daily.
John Sliwa
Amazing getaway from all the hustle and bustle of waikiki. They have an amazing variety of different trees and plants and explain much of the history of the site. This is a must see if you enjoy nature.
Liliana Bugarin
My mother asked me to take her to a garden in Hawaii. It came to our surprise how beautiful this Garden really is. We were able to experience thousands of plants we have never seen in our lives. We also saw the tallest plant in the entire world which is so unique & was a wonderful experience to have Witnessed. We spent few hours here appreciating the beauty here in Hawaii.
Hannah T
Ive lived in Kaneohe all my life and had no idea this hidden gem was right there 😲
I went once for a picnic, which is great you can eat your Alejandro's Mexican take out from ten minutes away, and once for the Midsummer concert.
On a normal day this place is very peaceful, the passing highway starts to sound like a flowing river and you forget on the other side of the serene open garden is major traffic.
I came back to see this family concert and it was also beautiful but packed with people, if you plan to go make sure to have a mat, glow sticks so you can see your kids in the dark, no stroller (in the aesthetic light tunnel people were running over feet 😬😬), a fully charged phone to use as a flashlight and a water bottle. There's water fountains near the bathroom but it was hard to get to because of the hundreds of people . Super beautiful place hidden in a busy city.
Laura Trilles
I love that Honolulu makes city parks and gardens a priority. We live close to this place and have been to several events here like the art installation. The flowers and trees are beautiful. The park is a wonderful place to have a date or a picnic.
Renee Francesca
Nice botanical garden, if you just want to walk around greenery come here. It is a nice getaway from busy Honolulu. But watch for mosquitos. Me and my daughter got bit. Also there is a temple next door.
Fe Myers
In the middle of a busy city, a gem of a collection of fantastic trees. Easy visit with accessible paths especially senior friendly and people with disabilities!
Jerry Alambatin
Great getaway in town. Lots of plants to look at and there's always different plants in bloom every season.
Morgan Family
Free parking and fabulous trees! This is a great place to visit when you need a peaceful break from the crowds and “busy-ness” of Honolulu.
Laurie Alsentzer
Lots of trees , few flowers other than is one small room, good one hour break to look around
Lorraine Morton
Very peaceful. There is a Buddhist Temple right next door. It was beautiful. The gardens had trees from all over the world.
Boris Sztorch
Beautiful botanical garden near Downtown. Unusual trees, plants and birds. Cost: $3 local ID, $5 everyone else.
Peter Hrabak
An amazing oasis on the edge of downtown. Could have spent hours here; returned a couple of days later to bask in the energies some more!
Kinnam
A small but plentiful and colorful place to see many varieties. There's a Kuan Yin Temple(觀音廟)next door
Jay Burcham
Nice, relaxing escape... we enjoyed our visit and would recommend.
Jade Elliott
Really green! 💚💚💚 the garden is absolutely beautiful and family friendly! I recommend going...
... btw one of the best parts was watching the bird trying to get out of the window in the conservatory. (It kept face planting in the glass XD) 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Charles Gunning
An inexpensive and fun way to spend a few hours.Very enjoyable botanical garden in Honolulu! Large and beautiful Flora. A great way to learn of the history of Hawaiian plants along with the plants brought here that are often assumed native.
Trevor Ninness
It is a nice enough botanical garden in itself but I was disappointed to find that none of the orchids were in flower at the time we visited. It was reasonably peaceful to walk around but traffic noise was never far away. I thought the conservatory was very well presented.
Glenn Barkley
Beautiful flowers, many palm trees. We loved the Quipo tree. You might want bug spray.
Courtney Wiggins
A gorgeous place to scope out beautiful blooms. The staff here are super kind and knowledgeable.
KW 5150

Well worth the visit.
Raffaella Angelelli
Nice garden with a lot of local plants. Nice spot to have a break from the Hawaii sunshine. It's not very big and it can be visited in 1 hour or less
Jennifer Jones
I would say a must-see.
A nice 2 hours should be enough time but could also stay for several more.
Ali Kramer
Beautiful way to enjoy nature in Waikiki without long hikes. The staff is friendly and happy to talk about plants and birds.
Ana Tan
Beautiful grounds. Peaceful and full of nature life. Only $5 entrance fee. You can bring a blanket and have a picnic there. Great way to end our hawaii vacation.
Andrea Ventura
So beautiful and I love the openess of exploring on your own
sigmund paul
The gardens are well maintained and beautiful. The customer service at reception is excellent. A very nice and serene place to spend some time with a wide variety of fauna and birds.
Clayton Lechlitner
Any gardener, forester, horticulturalist, or just general plant lover, will find this a small oasis in Honolulu. The staff around the grounds will happily answer questions from their wealth of knowledge.
Expertly cared for trees, flowers, and herbaceous plants line well ordered pathways, with a small conservatory containing the plants in my review photos. Photos do not do the Baoboa tree justice
If you want to see what a palm tree (nigh every variety of them) looks like without boot-spike holes pocketing an entire side, come here!
Cannot reccomend this highly enough to visitors.
Jeronimo Lopez
Beautiful botanical garden with a large variety of trees. You can a map with points of interests and some background information. Has some of the oldest trees on the island. Well worth the 5 dollar admission.
Scott Maeda (ScottM_Hawaii)
Beautiful gardens smack in the middle of urban Honolulu. It's right next to the H1 freeway and Nuuanu Ave. Well worth the price of a very low admittance fee.
Nancy Heffring (NorthShoreNancy)
Foster has a lot of good information about the trees plants and flowers in the garden. The ancient trees are amazing and the orchid greenhouse is beautiful.
Zvika R
Highly recommended. Lots of trees, plants, flowers, hothouse, statues within the garden. Affordable admission fee.
Righthero Phillips
Beautiful serene place to go for a walk. Very beautiful and well kept. The palm trees garden is very interesting as you can see all the variety of palm treats next to each other.
coffee girl
If you really want to make sure you do not miss anything, download or print the map on their website prior to visiting the garden. The paperwork given at the entrance has the show stoppers, the map on their site has all plants and trees.
Use both to see all the specimens located at this truly wonderful garden. Bring some water and take your time. Spent a cloudy afternoon in early fall.
Meandering paths, a butterfly garden. Lots of open space with grass and benches. Some people had a picnic under some huge trees. The final stop is a greenhouse with orchids and lots of flowering greenery. Free parking. Easy to find and super nice people at the entrance. We stopped in the giftshop and bought some handmade gardenia soap.
Phil Smith
Beautiful place with lot's of the plants peculiar to Hawaii. Information on the origin is included. I really liked the primal section
Ron Racer (RonRacer)
Beautiful stop for anyone who loves plants! I've never been to a garden where you could walk in the grass and get as close as you want to each and every flower.
Anna Cassar
Amazing place with lots of different and unusual plants and trees. Very relaxing and inspiring.
Paddy Wu
A lot of historical the trees! They also give you a bird watching list if you want to look for birds. An educational piece on the invasive coconuts beetles is also available. Overall, great environment!
Nina Dutta
This sizable botanical garden was a cool place to stop and see unusual plants. $5 entry.
Sadly they will not hold bags at the desk, so if you're killing time before a flight or hotel check-in, you'll have to carry your stuff with you.

Beautiful and serene in the heart of Honolulu. Huge trees encompass the grounds providing a nice cool stroll on a short path through a meticulous landscape of various plant life. An escape to breathe.
Magda Gregorska
I am so glad that I visited this spacious and gorgeous tucked next to Chinatown gem of a place. I think I spent about two hours here and I enjoyed very minute. To be able to see some of these rare flowers and trees, has been a true highlight for me. The verity of flowers and trees that you will be able to see if impressive - cannonball tree and cycads were my favorite.
$5 for none residents, CC accepted.
Free parking or you can take a public bus and walk a shirt distance to the garden.
Lou Urzua
Beautiful place to learn, relax, and enjoy the trees and plants.
Angel Singh
Beautiful Botanical Garden with a variety of beautiful plants and a lovely walk
RichardAndLydia Molineaux
Though it is bordered by a major freeway the serenity of this place can make the road noise disappear—or at least fade into the background of ones consciousness for a bit. My husband and I visited in October a couple of years ago and now in April and the flowers in bloom in the spring delighted us with their fragrant aromas. The birds seemed more abundant too, but that could have been my imagination—or maybe it’s just spring. Who wouldn’t want to be in this gem of a garden on the edge of Chinatown in a big city? A visit here is well worth the price of admission
($3.00 for residents & $5.00 for non-residents.) We had a refreshing afternoon here.
Samantha Seitz
A very lovely place to walk around and see the wonderful plants and trees! I got to speak to several staff members who were very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great value for such a lovely garden in the middle of the city, with plenty of parking available. I couldn't recommend it enough!
Paul Sherland
Wonderful Spot in the Heart of Honolulu! Although there are larger botanical gardens in Oahu, Foster is a treasure every time we visit. The staff is always helpful and the grounds are easy to navigate. I enjoy sitting on a bench and taking in the beauty. Off street parking is usually available and we usually bring a lunch to enjoy at the picnic tables near parking.
Gail Aila
This is a beautiful garden with birds and butterflies. Make sure to take binoculars to enjoy the birds.
Chase Jackson (Alhoon85)
Beautiful, amazing place. Wonderful plants, big variety. Clean and safe place.
Drawoh Adeyu
Beautiful garden right on the outskirts of the city. Someplace you can just sit and relax or stroll along through. Enjoy the scenery and the greenery. If you do go, please don't be that obnoxious person that blasts music, talks loudly, e-cigs, or acts like a fool. This is not the place for that. Respect the land and culture.
Melanie Lutz
Wonderful experience. May be the best botanical in ohau. Amazing flowers and trees. Great experience.
Ashley Huffman
Gorgeous!! I always have a pleasant experience here. There are so many new things to see every time. I can't wait to go back.
Rio Sarmiento
Employees were so kind and helpful. Beautiful layout and display of trees.
LA Gold
We lost track of time because it's such a gorgeous garden having a quipo a baobab and the loulu palm makes it special we did get locked in and had to climb over the fence to get out but I guess that's what a government shutdown does
Eric Carlson
Open to the public for 90+ years, one of America's top botanic gardens
J S
Really enjoyed our visit, perfect for little ones to run around and get dirty. Some of the trees just take your breath away. Will go again for sure!
No playground. Yes bathroom facilities. Yes shaded. Yes gated.
Taylor
Beautiful garden, $5 for entrance, $3 for kama'aina. Peaceful and educational. A must visit to get your daily dose of O2 in the city.
Bri Bri
Had a wonderful time here. Staff was friendly and it was a great place to walk around. Would definitely come back 🌺 …

Great place to clear your mind and get mana. You will enjoy seeing many unique plants and trees, hearing bird singing, and smelling tropical flowers. Free parking and just $5 fee (kamaaina $3).

Plants and trees galore! This botanical garden was beautiful and very serene with a map to guide you throughout the way. You'll spend a good hour here at least, and you'll probably spend closer to two hours as we did. I highly recommend stopping by here and it's relatively cheap to get in as well!
john adams
Great little park, well worth the $ 3-5 entry fee.
Agustin P.
Only $5 to get in and it was such a beautiful place. I didn't realize you could take food and have like a little picnic in the fields. Definitely wanna do that next time. I would recommend some sort of BUG OFF spray though.
Lisa E. Sinagoga
Ah-mazing! Last visited the Botanical Gardens 20 years ago and they are even more lovely! So green, so beautifully maintained.
Gloria Santos

Beautiful garden! This is now my favorite one on island. It's a calm place in a chaotic city. $3 for military. $5 for non. Can't beat it!
Alexander Sakamoto
Great botanical garden located 10 to 15 minutes away from Waikiki. Just outside of Chinatown Honolulu
Chris Norred
Awesome place with a large variety of trees and other plants defiantly great for a relaxing day
Rictor Smith
Great place! There is free parking and a Buddhist temple next to the garden. Very relaxing place to hang out.
Adam P
Beautiful gardens and greenhouse with lots of animals to behold. This inexpensive attraction is a must-see in Honolulu.
Zaida Morales
Beautiful, all the local and famous landscape of Hawaii in one place. Loved it.
Tamera Lovely-Carroll
I love the Foster Botanical Gardens. Great variety of trees and plants. Great artist displays.
Chris Villerot
Foster Botanical Gardens has a great route for nature walks and learning about plants. Currently, the Corpse Flower Plant is starting to open (happens once every 5 years for each plant, or about every 6 months in here). It will bloom for about 48 hours and then be done.
Tanner McBee
A great way to wander around in the afternoon shade, informative self guided tour with guided tours at 10:30am.
Ann M
Love this retreat in the middle of town. They are currently doing some work on the lyon garden. A new pleasant surprise is that they are currently hosting some art work for the Hawaii Triennial this year. Some pieces were a little out of place at this location.... But it's nice to be surprised with the change and the art pieces are thought provoking. Loved it
Calvin King
Beautiful place, got to see the giant corpse flower in bloom!
Sophia Martinez
There's so many beautiful things to see here. A must stop!!
Shana Valenzuela
With the pandemic going on my nieces and nephew hadn’t been out much. Hello Foster Botanical Garden. A wide open space, lots of beautiful plants, and easy to walk paths right near downtown Honolulu. We lucked out and went in March when they had Free Family Sundays, but the beautiful grounds are definitely worth the price of admission. Bring/wear sunscreen and bug spray because no one likes mosquito bites.
Jonathan Lange
A small but amazing must see in the middle of downtown. Love this place.
Delinda Newman
Amazing place ❤️❤️
Stephen Gosden
Lots of interesting trees but relatively few flowers
Alexander Buhr
Beautiful place. We discovered it on our own and it took about 2 hours. Lot to see and learn. I would recommend to do the guided tour though.
Kerstin Chan
Fantastic!!! Went on a free Sunday in March and I would have no hesitation paying to get in any day. It's educational (didn't know there were so many species of palms) and serene. A great place to spend an afternoon with a friend and a picnic.
Jean Dickinson
Wonderful respite in the heart of Honolulu, wrapped in history and exploration.
Road Warrier
A beautiful garden and I would recommend to any tourist in HNL. 3 starts unfortunately as a protest to the designer? who is ruining it by putting ugly incongruous plastic displays such as “Economy Garden” and a pink sculpture in the middle of beautiful trees. Probably one person who is trying to show how ugly plastics are, and he/she is successful. A big turnoff. Yuck!
CW Chen
Decent size Botanical Garden in the middle of downtown Honolulu. Grew up in town all my life and did not know this place existed. The garden contains a lot of unique and majestic trees. They even have a corpse tree on display, but it’s not ready to bloom yet, which I am very interested in viewing. I have been here twice already, and I plan to visit more in the future. Btw, it is $3 for kamaaina/local residents.
craig keenan
A very nice garden. We took a tour with Docent Bob Swager. He was very informative. This is well worth a visit!!
Mars Doria
For $5 ($3 for Hawai'i residents) this place is really worth visiting. Lots of plants to learn about.
Stella Wren
The garden is really amazing, You should definitely go see it. We took a ton of pictures while we were there. The reason for the missing stars is because the main reason we went was to go to the gift shop and get plants to take home. As it said on their website, we assumed you could get plant cuttings and small plants to take home much like the occasional stand inside ABC stores. We left the Garden to go to the gift shop at around 3:22 and it was closed. We were surprised, since their website says they don't close until 4. She also said they didn't have any plants until April. The three other guests that also wanted to go to the gift shop we're all disappointed as well. I'd appreciate it if their website was updated so people didn't run into this problem again.
Arce Iniguez
Beautiful place but pretty much it's like a park...
Angie Crawford
One of my favorite places to take stroll, different every time!
Toni Castellanos
Such a beautiful and serene place located in the middle of the city. It's small, but beautifully maintained. It took me and my hubby 3 hours to walk the entire grounds. There are plenty of places to sit and soak in the Beaty of the gardens. I highly recommend it.
Lea K
Definitely worth the $3 getting in for residents, $5 if you are visiting Hawaii.
There are some really cool and pretty plants and they had lots information available on them. I also really enjoyed the public art. There were birds, probably about a normal Hawaii amount of birds, which is a lot of birds. 🐓🐦
I would recommend bringing a picnic 🧺, I ended up getting hungry and had to leave before I get to see everything the way I would want to. Plan on going back.
Ken B.
Absolutely beautiful and amazing it right in the middle of the city.
Corey H
Great place to shoot(photos), pretty quite and peaceful.
Natalie
First time visiting , I took my sister from MN. The entry was minimal and this day hardly any other visitors which made gliding through each section so much nicer.
The flowers, the trees and vegetation were well maintained and lush. The grassy areas were plush as well.
Each area is highlighted with an information plack detailing exactly what you are looking at, like the Sausage tree, who knew.
There was a beautiful white little gazebo where you could sit and enjoy the garden.
A lovely day.
Brannon
Historic Botanical Garden has many amazing plants and trees from across Oceania, Asia, Australia, Papua etc... A genuine oasis of tranquility near the hustle and bustle of downtown HNL and Chinatown. Great place for a picnic. Even the parking lot overlooking the canal is beautiful! Also excellent for 'Shinrin-yoku' Forest Bathing...highly recommended. PS theres an entrance fee...its worth it and goes directly towards maintenance and operational costs of the park
Christopher Merck
This was a very cool place. It is divided up into different sections, each with a different emphasis of plant - one section highlights palms, one section highlights spice trees, one section highlights ferns and other 'old' plants. My only complaint is that it was hard to find some of the self-guided tour markers. It does cost $5 to get in (for non-resident s), but you can tell they put that money to good use. I hadn't planned to go to this place, but I'm glad I found it!
Preeti Patel
Nature in it's true form. Variety of trees , rare plants and orchids were amazing.
Allan
This is a small cute botanical garden which is a nice green refuge close to downtown Honolulu. It's strengths are ease of access, plentiful parking, some impressive impressive tree specimens. Unfortunately it does suffer from vehicular traffic noise from the adjacent H1 freeway on it's mauka boundary. The docent tour might be worth doing but it didn't fit our schedule..
Chuck Williams
Beautiful garden with impressive trees. A huge variety of palms, I would have never known. The Boabab was a giant.
Veralyn Bedan
I've visited all but one of the botanical gardens on the island, and this is my favorite so far! Seems like a great place to let the kids run around or get lost in a good book! Great variety of plants and trees, and well kept. Lots of parking. Admission price is a great value!
Kyara Kawelo
Beautiful , lived here my entire life by far most exquisite site to see. Beautiful butterfly garden butterflies are friendly
Vogue Montero
Beautiful place. Great picnic with few friends on the big lawn. Beautiful setting. As we were leaving, a group of high school graduates came to take their photos. Very well manicured botanical garden.
Discount entrance fee for kamaaina! 👍🏼 …
Stephen Mitchell
A little oasis of tranquility and curiosity in the madness of Honolulu. See giant trees planted in the 1930's and 1940's, see plants and trees you've never seen but whose seeds you have smeared on your face in creams, and see a tree grown from a cutting from the tree The Buddha achieved enlightenment under, according to the ancient beliefs. Limited parking, small gift shop of gifts about plants and trees (no ABC store here). I didn't see a restroom but wasn't looking for one. Not a good spot for kids unless preternaturally curious about trees and plants!
Mark Atkins
Wonderful tropical gardens with many different plants and trees to see. Highly recommend as very peaceful and well laid out.
Jaymee Castro
What a great piece of paradise in the city. Nice walking trail.
gabriela popescu
Superb
Jeff Stuivenberg
A gem in the middle of Honolulu! Beautifull variety of exotic plants and flowers. Very friendly staff.
Mari Byers
Beautiful! The walking map highlights some of the trees and flowers, and their significance. There are trees 100 or more years old there. You can get through in about an hour, so it's a nice stop if you're out and about. We walked over when we were in Chinatown.
Lena Qian
A hidden gem in a big city. The plants were beautiful, and we especially loved the sausage plants. We spent about 1.5 hrs on a self guided tour, but we did make a lot of stops. Definitely recommend for such a low price.
Ting Cui
$5 admission for non residents. Nice garden and had a conservatory with a bunch of orchids in various pots
Twisted Humor
Beautiful garden. Lots of variety in flora.
Lynette Hill
It is a beautiful garden with unusual trees.
Dirk Harris (ShadowAce)
Very enjoyable place to relax as well as lovely people working here.
Adaire Salome
One of my favorite "get-aways" smack dab in the middle of downtown Honolulu. Located closer to Chinatown, it is a peaceful oasis of Orchids, Bamboo, Palm, "cannonball trees", and trees that touch the heavens. It is serene, quiet, providing space for a picnic lunch, or walk during your lunch break. If I were a church going person, Nature would be my cathedral.
Steve Leith
Beautiful. Right near downtown is hidden this amazing park full of crazy plantlife. Admission is cheap and worth it. We did the family year pass since we go all the time even just for a quick stroll or some time to sit and reflect. They have a ton of volunteers that hold workshops, educate, etc. We just did a great guided meditation session last weekend. We also saw (smelled) the corpse flower in bloom. Great stuff.
Dee Dominici
Very beautiful I will be going back
Abra Cadabra ([elemental])
Interesting mix of trees and plants. Feels like a little bit of Jurassic Park
cphawaii
Thurs concert by the Us Air Force Band, "Small Kine". Lovely afternoon in the cool breeze...
Valerie Shinn
Very nice. The entry fee is $5 and they have umbrellas for the rainy days. Maps are given out to help identify plants.
Michele Napier
Giant everything and beautiful and right downtown Honolulu!
92 Y
Japan hit this place, originally Japanese school, during WW2 and killed so many Japanese students. Sad.
Molly Young
A beautiful garden. Take the guided tour, lots of historical information.
Jimmy Q
So peaceful and beautiful here. Many plants. My loved one even took a nap since it was so serene...
dara perales
Beautiful, leisurely walk. Lots of fantastic, old trees.
Michael Miller
A pretty great spot to walk through. Especially for a couple bucks
Paul Clifford
Beautiful, diverse, tropical botanical garden... a wonderfully relaxing place to spend a hot, sunny day in the cool shade and gentle breeze of ancient plants and giant trees shared with the local aviary population.
Amanda Cummings
This was one of my favorite botanical gardens. The guide was very informative, and we felt like we left really understanding the collection and its value.
There are parts of this garden that are NOT paved, so wear shoes you don't mind getting a little muddy. If it does rain, while you're there, then the garden does have umbrellas available for you to borrow! Definitely at least take a picture of the bird checklist too before you start walking the garden. We saw so many unique birds and I was grateful I took the photo to carry with us.
Carl Camenisch
Interesting collection of tropical plants from all over the world.
Kenneth J
Absolutely beautiful! Peaceful and very interesting. A must visit!
Gabbie J.
Enjoyable way to spend an afternoon! My kids and I learned a lot about the local flora by visiting this reasonably priced stop.
stephen pelletier
It’s a great spot to see some amazing tropical trees
Ayla Smith
Small, with mostly trees, not flowers. The greenhouse is lovely. There's a butterfly garden & gift shop with local items. Nice staff & ample parking.
Mike Ferrell ll
Took our 5 and 3 year old children here for a few hours, very relaxing and a nice way to wind down and enjoy some scenery, plenty of available parking was appreciated.
Nathan Strain
Foster is the only one of the five county botanical gardens to charge an entry fee, but it's definitely worth the few bucks to get in. They have quite a few "Exceptional Trees" that are very old and lots of exotic plants. The pitcher plants are especially interesting as are the orchids. Great for a quick stop, or an entire afternoon.
Christopher Jimenez
Went on a quiet guided tour of the grounds. Lovely place, knowledgeable and quite (pun wholly unintended) down to Earth tour guide, with a variety of plants to view and some to touch. Has some historical importance to Honolulu and is at the very least worth a leisurely stroll.
Kaala
Always nice place for a lunch escape and exploring
Fasil Teshome
Nice place to see different kinds of trees and planets.
Peter Odaro
Well laid out. Rich collection of native plants. All the pathways or access ways need to be cemented or paved to prevent muddy walkways.
Willie Ruiz
Very calm and beautiful place to relax and walk around enjoying all the plant and trees. It was reasonably priced at 5 bucks a piece. We enjoyed our hour here. Front door guy was great too!
Lisa Meadows
So Beautiful 😍, Don't wear dark clothing there... mosquitos in the shade. …
Mary Beth Garhart
Delightful place to walk around with a helpful map to identify certain plants. Good shaded areas for hotter days. Small area for butterfly garden and orchid greenhouse.
K Marie Gallagher
Very well laid out with several types of gardens including a tropical fruit garden, a butterfly garden and an orchid house. It will take a couple of hours to see the whole place if you are really into gardens. I photograph there quite often. Inexpensive and hardly anyone there. Deducted one star for highway noise. (Take headphones and play music while you walk around)
Kawika Nalo
Very peaceful and full of various plants, trees, and flowers. Awesome place for picture taking. I was there for Senior Grad Photo-taking. The floral hut-house was colorful with flowers.
Eric Kalkhurst
A very lovely experience. It is a small but excellently kept Garden with many surprises. It is well worth going. You leave it with a sense of peace.
Jan Egan
Loved it. So much to see in a smaller garden. Great variety. The paths were wide. Some asphalt some dirt. A few steps family carried walker down and I used the railing. There were also some nice ramps.
Canadian Traveller
More of an arboretum than a garden. Nice way to spend 30 minutes or relax under a tree.
derek woodcock
Beautiful shrubs, trees, and perennials. Pamphlet at entrance listed detailed information on select specimens. The greenhouse was full of orchids, pitcher plants and other exotic items. The greenhouse was full of beautiful flowers with vibrant colors and spectacular shapes. We spent about 1.5 hours here. Right next door is a beautiful Korean temple.
Tracy Hendenshott
Very nice space in middle of city. Their pride is shown my gardeners keep it in tip too shape. Also has art installations, which I believe rotates.
Chad Matsumoto
The first time I visited Foster Botanical Garden, I was amazed that such a garden existed in the middle of downtown Honolulu. What's even more amazing is that there are a number of gigantic exceptional trees housed in this garden. I've never seen trees so large on the island of Oahu before.
This garden really is a treasure or an oasis in the middle of town. There is a discounted entry for residents, so I do recommend checking the garden out. During my last visit, there was a Biennial even featuring art from a variety of artists.
Andrea Campanile
My son came to visit and recommended we go here. I had no idea this garden existed in the heart of the city. It was so worth the visit. the grounds are well maintained and there's an excellent assortment of vegetation. I'll go back again and again.
Chris Rose
Easter Sunday nature walk was a tree filled heavenly experience. Cool, relaxing, open space so close to our location!!!!
Anna Blank
Beautiful and peaceful garden in a not so nice area of town. It's right next to the freeway so it's a little loud but it has historical significance. They put of some cool events throughout the year but its a place to go while visiting Hawaii.
Sarah H.
Beautiful garden in the heart of Honolulu. 5$ regular admission fee
David Spafford
You won't believe the size of the trees, conservatory gorgeous filled with orchids and exotic plants, friendly staff, gentle shaded walk. You will love it.
Krystal Dickess
Beautiful, fun. The trees are amazing
Alexandra Lane
The massive trees here are really stunning and it definitely worth a visit if you are interested in plants as you will see some pretty neat things. The downside of it being a little too close to the highway (and therefore a bit noisy at times) is countered by how easy it is to get to.
Fernaz Balsara Amorin
I usually go during the Summer to attend the Twilight concerts. They take place every Thursday in June and July. They are so much fun! The grounds are beautiful. A wonderful way to pass the early Summer evenings outdoors.
Liliya Aronson
This easily accessible city garden is not to be overlooked on Honolulu visit. With nicely established collections of plants from all over the world, the garden, confined by a sprawling city, manages to pack enough material for hours to walk and marvel. The stunning Prehistoric Glen Cycad Collection alone makes the visit worthwhile.
From teeny-tiny chameleon lizards to northern cardinals (how they even get to Hawaii!) to baobab trees to orchid enclosure and greenhouse, this oasis of calm will surely delight a leisurely visitor.
Feather Divas
This might be the most satisfying botanical garden I've ever been to! So much to see! Organized and labeled with enormous trees that take your breath away! I always visit local botanical gardens when I travel and Foster botanical gardens did not disappoint! We drove out to Wahiawa Botanical gardens and that was not what I was looking for. It is small and very natural but largely not labeled and much of the paths were blocked off. Foster though...wow! So glad I took the time to go through it. Definitely rewarding and worthwhile!
BSKA - Bangladesh Street Kids Aid
Beautiful place in the midst of the city. Get a taste of the paradise that places outside of Honolulu have to offer. After this, check out Waimea waterfall hike/botanical garden.
MiKayla
really nice place . loved the butterfly area. It does have a lot of open space though. I think it would be a nice touch to add flowers . at the current time it was just different kinds of trees.
Olivia Moshier
A lovely, very peaceful botanical garden. Only $5 per person. Lots of plants native to hawaii. Everything is labeled which is so nice for those that are interested. Looks very jungle-ish in there. It is very small. You can make it through in an hour or less if you are just wandering. Make sure you take your map or you'll get lost though. You definitely need it to get through.
Navdeep Asi
Great tour. A lot of cool information and surprisingly hands on. The ground are very nice and a lot of information on Hawaii and how it came to develop its current landscape. Recommend it if you're in the area and have some spare time.
Andy Jame
I like nature and love Foster Botanical Garden! It is very relaxing to see nature in the heart of Honolulu. Every plant has labels, there are plenty of benches, a white gazebo for resting, and clean bathrooms and shaded parking area. All in all, it's a great garden and will definitely be back!
Steve Lacey
History... and nature... and flowers! Who doesn't love flowers? This is a wonderful walk. Some of the trails can have some rough spots, so if you're like me,and a little out of balance, bring your trek pole(s).
Denice Ochola
A lovely place to learn about Hawaiian flora and pass the time 🌺🌴🌳 …
J. Butler
A very nice collection of both local and non-native trees and flowers. The corpse flower was fascinating. The garden is well laid out and decently labeled. The only thing I would have wished for was either less mud or a good place to wash it off.
Jerri Garretson
This is a lovely garden, part of one of the royal Hawaiian gardens, now reduced in size by urban growth and the freeway, but still a beautiful oasis of peace and beauty, featuring many unusual tropical plants, flowers and trees, such as the kapok tree. If you have a chance, go on a guided tour. You will learn a lot of fascinating information, like the flower that can only be pollinated by one species of moth.
Melita Aquino
Solid garden in the midst of Honolulu. Orchid garden isn't in bloom (February) but there were plenty of beautiful orchids in the green house. Very calm, though you can hear the H1 on the mauka side of the garden. A good place for a picnic or to enjoy the outdoors.
Other reviewers have complained about there not being many flowers but you have to take into account the season when you visit...
Deloris Hairston
Love this place...so beautiful!! The flora and fauna is so awesome!!
Looking forward to the annual Midsummer Night's Gleam. This year the theme is entitled "Stars Above the Sahara Sky" on Saturday, 20 July from 4:00P to 9:00P...free admission!!
R Bran
Not too far of a drive, and still in the city. More unique trees than flowers, but was able to get some floral. Trees range from pre historic to other continents. Couple of restrooms in the park.
a z
The lands, indigenous plants, trees, flowers and birds at Foster Botanical Gardens are an absolute must see. $5 entrance for non-residents, $3 for residents. This tranquil garden is perfect for a long day relaxation for a bit of peace and serenity, or a quick refill of nature. Be sure to kick your shoes off and enjoy a lovely stroll throug these wonderfully preserved, magnificent gardens. Enjoy!!
Susan Solheid
Wonderfully unique garden! Because of the many unique and some quite large trees. Cannonball and sausage trees for example. Very shady on a hot day. Herbs and orchid gardens. All kinds of trees - trees are the primary focus. A beautiful temple right next door at the driveway entrance on Vineyard. Just 3-4 blocks north of Chinatown. Had lunch there.
Norm Decker
Nice, leisurely break from Waikiki and other overcrowded attractions. Primarily known for its various trees, it does have a small greenhouse with orchids and ferns. Not too large (14 acres) and can be easily traversed in an hour.
Sean Coolidge
Absolutely the best botanical garden on Oahu! The trees are incredible and the staff is always friendly. A natural treasure in the middle of a modern city
Jesse Wong
Quite a fun place for those who love to hear about plants around the world! From palms to flowers and trees small and humongous, you'll have a great time both learning and taking pictures of the diverse flora.
Cory Washko
This garden is gorgeous! There are so many birds, the staff is amazing, and the garden is kept up very nice! This place is extremely peaceful and beautiful. I even saw the geiko gecko!
Sandy CorwinSnifffen
We enjoyed a leasurely walk through the amazing trees and green house orchids. Nicely maintained and the name plaques gave us the answers to "what kind of a tree is that". Free parking and $5.00 entrance fee. Well worth it.
Michelle Silvestri
It was a very peaceful stroll. There were several places where you could rest if needed and many things to see. I was very excited to be able to get pictures of butterflies. Highly recommend!
Yan
beautiful walk full of things to see
Mataio Matthews
Beautiful for walking and sightseeing. Small picnics, maybe. But most definitely for taking pictures for weddings, graduations, what have you. But heres an important tip. If possible, dont go alone becuz in places thats very much like a park, you also want to be alert in your surroundings everywhere you go. This is not a place where crimes happen for sure its a good place to go for sure. But its always good to be safe cuz youll never know when desperate n stupid will show up lol. Aloha🌺
David Nedde
Great little botanical garden, with plenty of interesting flowers, trees and plants, well labeled. Fairly shady. Yes, you could hear the highway nearby, but I don't think it detracted much from the experience.
kehauonalani Moncriffe
It was fun. Great day for checking out the corpse flower and taking the kids walking around. They had fun using the map and checking off the numbered plants/trees. It was worth the very affordable entry price.
Noenoea
The summer performance program is free and the gardens are open to the public. The botanical garden provides a great service to the community offering families a relaxing and beautiful place to gather and picnic while enjoying music and dance. Look out for their upcoming activity day, teaching families about the importance of nurturing plants and the world that supports us.
Scoo Ter
Very nice, rustic native oriented botanical garden. They have a nice smaller conservatory, a good collection of orchids, walking trail that has several historical Ballast benches with annotated map & historical info. Friendly staff 8)
Michael Nicholas
Small but beautiful. They shouldn't charge though. It's not big enough to be charging a fee. I know better gardens that are free.
frank brooks
Wonderful break from the bustle of Honolulu. Lots to learn and admire, from giant Quipo and Kapok trees to many kinds of palms. Also, lizards and cattle egrets, orchids, and various "useful" plants such as taro, cinnamon trees. Short walk to Chinatown for lunch and a return to bustle (different from Waikiki's ).
Jerod Beeson
Lots of flora to see, if you're into exotic botanical and Hawaiian botanical history (how certain plants got here, ie: palm trees, Pineapple, etc). Nice place to stroll for an afternoon.
Joel Goodness
A peaceful garden with a wide variety of tropical plants. Helpful guide pamphlets are provided indicating over 30 plants of particular interest and local historic significance as well as birds freqenting the garden. $5 admission for adults.
Brooke Holderbaum
This place is a gem in the middle of urban Honolulu. Bordered by a freeway and two other main arteries for traffic, Foster Garden maintains an intimate charm while preserving some of the great living treasures of our local history. Entrance fees are incredibly affordable, leaving enough money to splurge at the gift shop. This was the first time I visited Foster Garden in many years, and I intend to return soon.
Eliana
I love this botanical garden, the Staff up front are very knowledgeable. I came here once a month for two years with my three years old son. We walk around and I told him about all the botanical species. His favorite is butterfly garden. My favorite?! Everything about this botanical garden :)
Dennis Johnson
Wonderful sanctuary in the midst of Honolulu. There is a cost to enter. Trees and plants from many different places in the Pacific and more. A self- guided walking tour with information on such.
Hassan Deen
Had a lovely experience at the Foster Botanical Garden. I had a tour guide take me and a group around the garden and was well educated on the collections of various plants in the garden which are from different parts of the world. Would highly recommend visiting and doing a your of the garden.
S Y
Beautiful, lots of different species, peaceful, not crowded at all. Quite a lot of mosquitos when I visited it. You can request to take wedding photos there (yes additional fee), but the request will take a couple of days to be proved.
Chris Read
An amazing place to visit, so peaceful. very helpful staff, cheap admission, toilets and drinking fountains, Wonderful variety of plants and trees and lots of butterfly's! The orchid house is not to be missed. Well worth a visit.
Mykel Andrews
Great experience. Loved the cannonball tree and sausage tree.
Andrew
Haven't actually been in here, but it looks beautiful from the outside, smells good and seems relatively homeless free! Probably the only park in Honolulu without people sleeping on the grass.
An Isa
Beautiful nature and history helps transport you from downtown/Chinatown into a lush verdant garden.
Linda Norman
Well worth the trip, peaceful and serene.
BillSmith
Amazing place to go to especially on a hot day. Many beautiful natural art. Not many tourists so it’s a great spot to go to for an hour or so. Would definitely suggest.
Daniel
For $3 dollars (if I remember correctly) you can walk around the Botanical Garden and see plants and trees from around the world🌏.. Very cool and inexpensive place to bring your Ohana for the day. …
Frank Tanzer
If you love plants trees flowers go to Foster Botanical Garden. You can also just relax under the giant trees .
Henry Nguyen
Easy access by bus (#2) from waikiki beach. Not too crowded. Lots of birds and many unique huge trees.
Coco
Lovely garden. The garden is so spacious and beautiful. Lots of plants and flowers. Easy to social distance & the air is so crisp here.
Kurt Heinz Gasser
It's a nice quiet place. With old trees and color flowers. Much birds can you see. Perhaps, how a area for little children or
and Pappilorama. It was more atractivity.
The entrence price coste a lot expensive.
Sorry for the little reserve. K. Gasser, Switzerland
Peter Soon
Nice place, if you like plants and such.
Angelina “gardener” Singson
Amazing botanical garden near Chinatown. Good parking, nice paved paths, family friendly!
John Jacobs
Nice place to walk. Very peaceful and calm.
bernie langton
This place is absolutely beautiful. In the middle of a bustling a city is this green refuge of peace. It is so ironic that while you're in the garden when you look towards the skyline There are high rises all around you. I love this place🌴🌴❤🦎🌱🌿🌾🌷🌼🌻 …
Donna Silbert
Loved it! Super well-maintained; understated. One tree is more amazing than another; one orchid more fabulous than the next.
Ryan del Rosario
Such beautiful place to unwind and enjoy nature.
Frances Holland
I love taking strolls in gardens... and Foster Botanical Garden is definitely one of my favorites. They have a flower hotline set up, which makes it so convenient to call and find out the status of a certain flower blooming or not... especially when we want to see the corpse flower in full bloom. Last time I went a little too late... and totally missed it! There's many places where you could sit and talk story -- there's a gazebo, on the grass, under a tree... And there's a butterfly garden there! And not just a few potted plants... but one where my children can walk through and recognize which ones look like Pokémon! Lol!
Matthew Shaker
Not too large but very tranquil.
Jae Elle
Love this place, beautiful, historic, great guided tour... a bit long but worth it as the guide was wonderful and full of great knowledge, plus the gardens themselves are amazing. I've been several times and always love going back!
Ron Verderame
Great place if you love nature
J R
The Foster Botanical Garden is an awesome place to visit not only to learn the names of the plants one sees everyday in Hawaii but also to see plants from other places in the world like black pepper, bay rum, allspice and others. I highly recommend this place.
D S
Very nice, peaceful and relaxing.
Brian Wismer
Awesome hidden gem right in town!
Tom Nauwelaerts
Great place to walk around. The greenhouse alone is worth the $3 admission (for Kamaaina). Parking is usually no problem, unless there’s a special event like Midsummer’s Night Gleam.
Kara Paul
Lovely little Botanical Garden. One tree will be of particular interest to fans of The Little Prince. ;)
J.J. Wardlaw
Awesome! Easy to find with it's own parking. Lots of open space to run around with a toddler! Oh, lots of beautiful trees as well.
John Goodrich
I probably would not recommend this to tourists because overall it is not very impressive, but it has some cool history and several massive trees.

A very diverse collection of tropical plants. Lush and beautiful botanical garden on 14 acres. As the oldest of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens, Foster Garden displays a mature and impressive collection of tropical plants. Some of the magnificent trees in this garden were planted in the 1850s by Dr. William Hillebrand.
