Reviews of Butterfly Pavilion

I absolutely love it here! Friendly for all ages and easy to get to. The main attraction (the large atrium) is like walking into a fairytale. The paths are fully lined with greenery and of course, butterflies galore! There are so many different types flying around, and they gladly land on you. There is a front area with all the types of butterflies in their cocoons at all stages. The rest of the building has great educational installations, including other bugs and fish. On Saturday's, they host a beautiful yoga class that is intimate and unlike any other practice.

Loved going here enough to join and get a family membership. Definitely worth the price. Takes the pressure off trying to make the most of a trip and let you do things more leisurely pace for young children.
On our last visit our grandchildren wanted to move pretty quickly through the spider and invertebrate sections to the butterfly area. We almost walked into a man standing in the walkway holding his hand out. A beautiful butterfly had landed on his hand and he was showing it to us.
So much to learn there and a play area at the end with slides and other exhibits plus presentations makes this a sure to go to place.

This was a really cool experience, but it's a little small for the admission fee. I don't mind supporting their mission, though. It was fun to see the various interesting insects (not just butterflies!), hold Rosie the tarantula, pet the horseshoe crabs, and even learn about shrimp and coral.
Of course the butterfly pavilion portion was the highlight. We were able to wander around and observe in wonder all the beautiful, delicate creatures around us. It was quite serene. Sweet to see the kids too.

The Butterfly Pavilion is one of my favorite things to do with my toddler- in fact, we’ve been going since he was a little baby. They are SO kid/family friendly- it’s awesome!! (I’d also gone a few times without kids and it was fun then too.)
First of all, they open early, so you can go, have fun, and still be home in time for the nap- super important in our lives right now.
Secondly, the exhibits are all set up to engage small people- and accommodations have been made do they can see everything by themselves without you having to endlessly pick them up.
Thirdly, they have a membership option.
Fourth, they have a beautiful outdoor space that we always take advantage of in the summer, but most of their space is indoor (including a super cool playground) so it’s perfect for chilly weather.

What a fantastic experience this was!
I was so enthralled by the butterfly pavilion. First, we went through the tarantula exhibit and I got to hold one of the tarantulas. Then, we moved into the butterfly pavilion. I just had the greatest time here.
Frankly, I think the rest of my group would have been happier to move on sooner, but I just couldn't tear myself away. I brought my camera and I enjoyed taking photos throughout the Butterfly Pavilion. I stayed until it got dark and I could no longer take photos.
Once I get the photos processed, I'll upload them to this site. I really feel like this day was time well spent. I can't recommended highly enough.
All I can do is five stars. This is definitely a 10 out of 10!
😊

What an experience! The pavilion is the largest I have ever visited and the variety of butterflies is incredible. There is also a play area for kids, a touch tank in the aquarium area, a gift shop with really cool and unique products, and an insect section with cool bugs. The staff is also very friendly and helpful!
Luis Solorzano
We had a great time here! Really cool butterfly exhibit and the other insects and sea creatures were a wonderful bonus! They also had an AWESOME gift shop with plenty of really unique toys and gifts! It's a must see for the kids!

What a nice surprise. The butterfly atrium is a comfortable temperature in the late fall. Good to see butterflies and moths at all levels of view. You can see more than butterflies. Take advantage stop into see all of the exhibits. Spiders, Crustaceans, salt water life, and tarantulas around Halloween time. Depending how busy they are, there are some hands-on opportunities to touch some of the creatures.

I was brought, as a surprise, for my birthday. I loved this place. The aquarium, insects and butterflies were all so fun to watch. I loved the plants too. Some of the biggest pothos I’ve seen. Great place for family, kids and a nice wholesome place to visit. Thanks for the experience.
Renee Tang
I enjoyed the butterfly area and able to even witness butterfly mating. I went to see the monarchs as I usually don't see in Colorado. Tropical flowers too. I loved the staff enthusiasm and educational sharing. Staff from entrance, saltwater & butterfly experience to bookstore was excellent. We were 2 adults with no kids in tow. on Tuesday not busy at all. It felt like a VIP experience
Meag McElvain
Fun for all ages. You can hold Rosie the tarantula, looks at other bugs, see ocean life, kids can play at an indoor play place and of course see butterflies! Very clean and an awesome gift shop. I’ll be visiting again just to purchase more items!
Shirley N. Waldrop
I was brought, as a surprise, for my birthday. I adored this spot. The aquarium, bugs and butterflies were all so amusing to watch. I adored the plants as well. Probably the greatest pothos I've seen. Extraordinary spot for family, kids and a pleasant healthy spot to visit. Gratitude for the experience.
Wade Walker
Great spot to spend an afternoon. Fun for kids or adults and reasonably priced. Kids loved the insect displays and chance to touch starfish, tarantula, and horseshoe crabs. Play area for the kids to burn off excess energy if needed. The butterfly pavilion is so peaceful and beautiful, so many different types. Been there many times and always enjoyable.
Brandy
Always lovely seeing all the butterflies and other creatures here. Definitely keep in mind how hot & humid it is in the butterfly enclosure for yourself & littles if you have them. Lots of great places to eat nearby as well!
Steve Haessler
Son and I had a great time. There was bugs and water creatures to also see. Son got to hold rosie the tarantula. Staff was friendly and butterfly 🦋 room was awesome. Playground area for kids also. Great time and fair price! …
Harvey Flowers
I raise butterflies every summer and I very much enjoyed everything that the Butterfly Pavilion has to offer. We went a bit out of season so there are only certain species available but they were all so beautiful. Would very much love to go back.
David Camille
Fun for parents and children...lots of spiders, bugs, star fish and activities to keep everyone entertained. The exhibit had a great flow to it. The whole family got to hold Rosie who is a sweetheart! 💖 Butterfly garden was beautiful and larger than ones I've been to in the past. Great overall experience for all. …
Star L. Berning
Updated review 3 years later: play place for young children has been remodeled and it's 100% way better! We still love visiting the Pavilion year round, and the outside gardens in summer time are beautiful! EBT cardholders: still an amazing discount. Call the desk to see exactly what is current discount pricing.
Zack Hoyt
This place is awesome for everyone who is interested in creepy crawlies, plants, and butterflies! They have different creature exhibits like tarantulas, centipedes, roaches, and some sea life. The butterfly house is a great experience! If you go before Halloween you can probably hold Rosie the Rose Haired Tarantula! The spider exhibit inside the butterfly house is a one of a kind experience so check it out too (before Halloween)!
Tickets are inexpensive and you don't necessarily need a reservation. Have fun!
Teisha Rowland
Wonderful place for bug and other invertebrate enthusiasts of all ages. Has spiders, huge assortment of bugs in great micro habitats, aquariums with touch tanks including horseshoe crabs and starfish, large tropical greenhouse jungle with butterflies and stick insects, indoor kids climbing and play area, and great gift shop with biology-focused toys. Kids can also hold Rosie the tarantula.

It was amazing, they had so many cool critters to look at. The butterfly part was beautiful some butterflies even landed on me! I hope other people will enjoy it just like I did!
Thea S
THE COOLEST! There were so many friends, butterfly and otherwise. Any friend I was allowed to touch, I did. I tracked 1864 for the conservation program and spent way too much on shirts at the gift shop. The clerk even recognized my Gladys as a Webkinz Whimsy Dragon! I would go again if I returned to the area.

On a Denver trip, I visited here with a friend. I love butterflies and it was a no brainier for me!
We parked in their lot. The parking was filled to 3/4th on a Thursday morning! We got tickets quickly at 13$(non-member) each and stepped right in. This place isn’t too large. They’ve 3 small sections - dessert, underwater and the butterflies.
The desert section has many creepy-crawlies. Some were hiding and were not visible. The scorpions and tarantulas! I absolutely loved the Bees!! They’ve a live bee counter! The underwater section was fun too - don’t miss the corals, horsecrab and the octopus! Finally, the butterfly section - So many beautiful butterflies flitting around! There were more than 10 varieties. You can walk around in the green enclosure and see these butterflies up close. I was in awe! Loved the chance to observe them closely. This place also had a display of live pupa and emerging butterflies!! Gorgeous!
I believe this was money well spent for me! 🙂
The place was mostly visited by families with kids. Bring your kids here - they’d love it!! If you don’t have kids - visit here for yourself!
Colton Buoy
Absolutely perfect. Cheap tickets and no wait. Not to many people either. I must go, for sure. More that just butterflies. You can also touch some of the wildlife as well. The staff are incredibly informative!
Michael Six
Went for the orb weaver spider exhibit with the kidos. It was a great experience for everyone in our group including those with spider phobias. There is a kids play area that was lots of fun. The butterflies were amazing, will definitely make more time to watch the cocoons to see if we can witness a hatching.
C. Stricker
What an awesome place to go and check out! You get to learn about all sorts of animals and check out an active indoor butterfly gallery. Very informative, helpful staff and a fantastic gift shop. Thank you for a great time and venue!
Christina ODonnell
Absolutely loved this place. Very serene and the tropical butterflies are so beautiful! The chrysalis section was muy cool.
It also has corals, exotic bugs, bees, spiders and plants. There's even a section to touch the starfish and horseshoe crabs.
Employees were super nice and knowledgeable. There was a nice presentation while an associate released newly hatched butterflies.
$13 for adults and there are several restaurants within walking distance.
Michele Trujillo
Excellent stop for all ages. The size enables everyone in your party to comfortably enjoy and take it all in. First up, hold Rosie! Then dream of the ocean while looking at starfish. Then you enter the butterfly zone. Breathtaking. The high humidity and heat transfer you to another part of the world. Butterflies everywhere you look. After that kid zone and gift shop.
Akia Lynch
Kids loved it and they held a tarantula, touched a starfish and a crab! Oddly, they thought the butterflies were beautiful but didn't want to have one land on them. Lol
Sadiyyah
This was our first visit and it was great. The staff was very friendly and helped the kids see where all the things were so they got a good look. I was very happy to see the butterflies 🦋 as they are my favorite.
Angela Kennefick
Really neat experience, definitely returning! The actual butterfly area is very warm and humid I was not dressed properly and would’ve stayed longer if I was. Amazing to see and smell blooming plumerias in the fall.
Narine Harut
Very nice Butterfly Pavilion, I got my tickets online, very easy to buy tickets and easy to in, place was clean and well-maintained, very informative employees, when we went in it was time to release new born butterflies 🦋, lady was explaining about each one of them, names, country of origin, how to be around them, it was very helpful and informative for everyone, specially for children. I had an amazing time, highly recommend for anyone to visit this beautiful Pavilion.
Stormy Howard
Super cool place. Definitely kid oriented but as an adult I really loved it! Tons of animals to see. You can hold a tarantula and pet star fish and horseshoe crabs. The butterflies are super pretty and it's like walking through a rainforest. Highly recommended if your looking for something to do for a few hours one day. We spent ~2 hours. There's also a kids playground inside the building so of your visiting with kids I could see you spending towards 4 hrs if you let them play.
Erica Seegrist
Fun place to visit. Holding Goldie is a must if you visit. Learn lots everytime, especially if your lucky enough to get a workers info speech in the actual pavilion. Sons and husband enjoyed the spider. Sea creatures are an extra bonus.
Taylor Rivera
We chose the butterfly pavilion as our wedding venue and I am SO GLAD we did! We had never been there before but when we arrived with our guests, everything was set up for us. The events coordinator (Stephanie) and interpreter manager (Carly) were so amazing even my guests commented about them. I was so stressed and nervous but it could not have gone more perfectly. They were so kind and accommodating, I cannot recommend this place more! It was such a unique experience!
Deanna Stevens
I've always enjoyed going here, but the new (new to us, at least) play area that they have was a wonderful addition and the kids really enjoyed it!
S
Sooooo much fun for all ages. The exhibits are engaging and well laid out. Definitely make time to hold Rosie the tarantula.
Cary Bergeron
Enjoy the dance of life! Get here early to see the butterflies hatch and to avoid the crowds. It’s a much better experience at 9am.
Matthew Fagan
Great place for children - Bugs, spiders, fish, etc….the butterfly pavilion was so exciting and housed thousands of butterflies. I wish they had a playground or at least more activities outdoors.
Kathryn Angelo
Although the butterfly 🦋 area was small it was pretty diverse. Be careful walking around because some butterflies rest on the ground. There was a cool tropical ocean display before entering and indoor playground with climates theme at the end and my 2 year old loved that! It really had something to enjoy for all ages and the staff was very nice.
Keaton Williams
The butterfly pavilion is an amazing place with thousands of butterflies to enjoy.
Enter to the left and check out the educational and fascinating displays with live millipedes, centipedes, tarantulas, and all sorts of creepy crawlers. Visitors with particular curiosity and fortitude are also invited to hold Rosie, the legendary docile tarantula. If that's not your speed there is also a wonderful beehive exhibit with a counter of live bees coming and leaving the hive to go on their pollination mission. Venture through the greenhouse of butterflies, as over 1600 different butterflies greet you. Currently (November 2021) the monarch is the featured butterfly and they are hatching tons of them!
Once your hair is sufficiently frizzy from the humidity, venture into the backyard playground! Here children are welcome to play on the treehouse, check out the wonderful little camper trailer, and explore the creatures mostly found in the depths of attics and crawlspaces. From a common mealworm beetle to the Black Widow, these displays feature many different grubs and grimes.
Loan Phan
Great place for kids to see a large amount of butterflies in one place. They’ll also get hold a tarantula!
bradley davis
I took my 12 year old daughter here and we both absolutely loved this place...
We came during October so there was an additional spider exhibit that was really fun and they had tarantulas the kids could hold..
They also have an aquatic section that has some really interesting and rare sea life..
There's a little section where the kids can touch and learn about starfish and crabs, and shrimp..
And then there's the butterfly room..
It was so cool and my daughter had so much fun looking at all the butterflies and having them land all over her.
Just an amazing place with a very friendly staff.
I would definitely bring your kids here
Elaina Gemmati
Such a fun experience! We went here while on vacation to look at the many special insects, fish, and the beautiful butterflies! There was a station to hold a tarantula named Rosie, they even give you a sticker after holding her. There seemed like a million butterflies in the exhibit flying around and showing off their pretty colors. Some even landed on our hands! We defiantly want to go back and suggest you do the same no matter what age!
sarah lakras
This place was beautiful. All the butterflies were just stunning. Over 7 butterflies landed on me ❤️
Tobias Davis
Overall experience was something worth to remember. I don't like that the pupal area, it was over saturated with humidity that the butterflies were dying almost immediately when emerging as their wings need to air dry not accumulate more moisture.
Leah
Such an awesome place! Seeing all the butterflies flying around and landing on you is just a beautiful experience
JonRob 951
This is a really neat place. It's pretty small but it's a unique way to spend an hour or two. Pictures don't do the butterfly part justice, it is really beautiful. Definitely kid oriented but I enjoyed it as an adult too.
Gee Queue
This is a great experience. Kids would love it too. 13 bucks for an adult ticket, so I thinks it's reasonable. You get to look at numerous exotic spiders, scorpions and insects. They have a small aquatic area where you can touch a few ocean-going animals such as horseshoe crabs. The butterfly pavillion area itself is incomparable. All types of butterflies flitting about. Stop here. You won't regret it.

What a wonderful birthday experience ❤ Me and my boyfriend came here from AZ and I was so impressed! This was such a fun place to see and I want to give a HUGE thank you to Richie and Mike at the giftshop! Richie was so helpful and knowledgeable about all the butterflies that were for sale! He even brought some out from the back to help me find the perfect ones! We ened up leaving with a grand addition to my collection!

Very cool! Very educational! Love the butterfly pavilion but questioned the living dove inside of it.
Alicia Varga
It was great, always enjoy going here. Such a great experience. I think they need to brighten it up inside with more light or colors. The staff was super friendly and holding Rosie the tarantula was amazing.
Amanda E McCosh
A fun place just to sit and relax and enjoy the butterflies. ROSIE the tarantula is back! This place isn't really some place you spend a lot of time - unless maybe you have very littles - there is a fun indoor playground. We only spent about 45 minutes there so a good place to stop but not so much to spend a day. (We went to the zoo first)
Jacquelynn Vail
Truly amazing. We brought out 2 year old and how they have everything laid out with the child in mind made it such a good experience. The little ramps up to the big cages so they can look really closely. How sweet Rosie is and the ability to just go over and see her. The butterfly room was something else for him, and for us too!
Every single staff member we interacted with so so helpful and friendly. They are clearly there for the insects and to help kids learn. We will certainly be going back again!
Osama Ashraf
Bought tickets in advance not sure how it would be, was extremely pleased. Although it is small, there's a few sections to the pavilion. Highlights include touching sea animals, holding a tarantula, insect terrariums including giant beetles, mantis, and spiders, and of course, the butterflies. There is a magic in seeing hundreds of butterflies in a warm flora environment that land on you if you're chosen. Extremely lucky to have come across this place and would recommend this to anyone in the area or visiting.
Uwanzi I
Cute little butterfly pavilion. It was quite peaceful just watching the butterflies flying around and doing their thing. Also seeing the sealife and other animals was interesting too.
Patrick Kuretich
Had a ton of fun with kiddo for the Halloween event. Butterfly’s were beautiful as well. Place got real cramped however, so if I went back it would be on a weekday.
Amber Rice-Horvath
We love this place! My son loves to look at all of the interesting insects they have from all over the world. He was also able to touch Rosie the teranchula today. He's 4 so he thought it was the coolest thing. They also have an aquatic area where kids can touch crabs, sting rays, seahorses, etc. The actual butterfly pavillion is magical. There is something so peaceful about being surrounded by butterflies. Awesome gift shop full of one of a kind items. My only complaint would be that it is pretty small. I wish they were able to expand.
Mary Jimenez
I've grown up with the Butterfly pavilion and my children love it just as much as I did as a child. Between the ocean, desert and tropical exhibits, it's impossible to choose a favorite.
Lesley Reed
I want to give 4.5 stars, it was beautiful and all of the exhibits are very manageable and it’s a great size for younger children. The website did hype up the gardens a bit too much in my opinion, but I spent the summer in Middle Park.
Bruna Dupre
Wow what a fun experience. We loved it. Plenty to see for all ages. Staff is very friendly and acknowledged. A must stop on the way to Boulder.
Caroline Colorado
I love this place so much! I feel like I’m in a tropical rain forest every time I go. We take company from out of town here sometimes.
The bee exhibit is small but is very cool and is my favorite. It’s an easy, quick activity and great for small children. I hope they expand and make it larger. Great place to learn about science!
Donnie Darko
Always a fantastic experience! How could you not want to immerse yourself into the world of butterflies? Clean facility, took about an hour to fully enjoy. Excellent variety of other critters and ocean life! Well worth the trip!
Catherine
It’s a happy place. Our visit was peaceful and enjoyable, butterflies are definitely well taken care off. It was fun walking around. Beautiful butterfly landed on my hand and seemed to be enjoying it. Caring, informative, professional staff made our visit even better.
Jeff Kessler
Great family friendly place. Every time I come I have a pretty enjoyable day.
Mike Talich
I attendee when my son was very young maybe over 20 years ago, it was interesting to go back with him. I was surprised to learn that the butterfly's are shipped in on a regular basis and not actively raised in the center. All those butterflies flying about in the atrium are intriguing, but I found equal intrigue in the flora.
Hayat Chick
Absolutely the best places around for nature, adventure ,fun times for the little ones.
We loved it so much we decided to get a membership so we can go anytime we want.
Kelly Kawa
Such a neat spot with a lovely butterfly space that is open. It is beautiful! It does feel like they oversell tickets and it becomes too crowded. The kid play space was an unexpected surprise and probably better suited for children 3-10. My feedback there is that the play area definitely needs to be staffed. Never once have I seen a staff member in that area. It is chaos. Lots of people, including adults, running around with shoes on even though it's not difficult to read that they must be removed. The 3 and under kid area is really tiny and open so it's not really setup for small children. Soooo many parents not watching their kids (guess that is something I will need to get use to as a parent). We still purchased a membership since it was on sale and it is a cool place to spend an hour or two with the kiddo.
Jean Ray
Very educational. I held Rosie the tarantula. The butterflies were so beautiful. They fluttered around giving the area a wonderful atmosphere. The staff was very informative and polite.
Derek 303 Schick
Had a fun date day with the wifey! It was a very nice place!
Nicole Hall
Great place to take kids or just to go and relax.
Leyley
We had a great experience with our big family. Yes, they are open during the pandemic but social distancing and masks are required. Our little ones had so much walking around and exploring. We purchased our tickets online so it made everything easy once we arrived to the location. I recommend this place. The place is clean and had clean bathrooms as well. There is a big parking lot and handicap parking spots, there place is also wheelchair accessible.
Sarah Dundee
I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I got propesed too! Such a magical place! It is REALLLLLY hot inside so if it's cold out, make sure to wear layers you can take off inside the pavilion. It was beautiful and such an experience 😍
Tim
I had a great time here. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great way to get out of the house and support something with a good cause. It’s a fun experience for all ages. I highly recommend visiting this place. There are limited entries so book your time online in advance.
Emily
We loved this place! Several interactive and hands on exhibits. I enjoyed petting the starfish. They’ve got three exhibits: one with insects, one with aquariums, and the butterfly garden. We stayed for an hour looking at all of the animals. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Karla Hernandez
Omg.. They have picnic tables outside. Got to eat some food Before going in. There are prairie dogs In the area. You do have to make a reservation before going in. Very easy to do all you gotta do is go online. I had so much fun looking at the bugs. The employees there are very knowledgeable. Very friendly services. It was so nice to see the butterflies And cocoonsThey also had starfish in other varieties of fishes and even Got to see an octopus.

If you want your secret wish to come true, tell it to a butterfly 🦋 🦋 🦋

Our trip to the Butterfly Pavilion was on their $5 entry day. Our visit was an impromptu trip, but was well worth it. My 2yr old was free and it was only $10.30 for my 5 year old and myself. They have lots of bugs and spiders to see and its setup is friendly to little ones as well as bigger kids. You can hold a tarantula (Rosie) if you'd like (assisted of course). The under sea section was nice, lots of nice fish and sea life to see and touch. Then there is the walkthrough rain forest with all the butterflies, which was very nice. They also have a very large kids playground area inside at the end next to the gift shop. It was really busy in the morning and thinned out around lunch.
I would recommend this place for a visit.
Parking is extremely limited so keep that in mind. You may have to park just north of Butterfly Pavilion in the shops located at the mall. Lastly I found it to be quite warm / hot throughout the entire visit, so dress accordingly.
C. Parker McMullen Bushman
I love this place. And not just because I work here! 😀 The exhibits are great for children of a variety of ages. There are lots of programs to keep families engaged. We have Science and community programs for adults too! Everything from weekly yoga classes in our rainforest to photography workshops. Some things that we provide for our guest are a nursing station, eating area, daily programs and great costumer service. Here are pictures taken on 8/7/2019.
Lia Guttman
A wonderful place to visit for kids and adults alike. Call before arriving to make sure they have tickets for your arrival time (they sell tickets in rounds of 20 minutes due to Covid).
Colan Scheidenhelm
Always a fun place to take the kids. Great exhibits including Rosie the tarantula, who the kids get to have crawl on their hands. There is an indoor play place that is good for kids up to about age 7 or so, and then a huge trail outdoors, along with tons of space to eat while looking at the great landscaping. All kinds of restaurants are close by as well!
Jose Vieitez
Such a cool place! Butterflies fly all around you and they can land on you! They also have a butterfly hatching section which is fascinating; you can see pupae slowly hatching live since there are so many at such different stages. There’s also a cool fish section where you can touch horseshoe crabs and starfish! And a kids play area, of course, to get their energy out!
Sarah Weller
Really enjoyed exploring here with our three year old. Staff is super willing to teach and comes up and starts educating and pointing things out without our even having to ask. Excited to go back in the spring!
Callie Oister
What a beautiful peaceful loving family friendly place. The membership pays itself off in 2 visits just for 2 people adult and child. It is educational, a mental break with all the zen butterflies and the garden outback is beautiful. There is a day pass to go and come back and perks for being a member. Highly recommend. I hope they stay in Westminster!!!
Julieanna D
Delightful! The butterfly atrium is hot and humid, so wear clothing for the rain forest. Neat bugs, bees, and aquariums in addition to the hundreds of butterflies. I especially enjoy watching the octopus, and holding the tarantula is exciting. Highly recommend bringing visitors here, fun for all ages.
Jess LaBudda
Overall it was an okay experience. My 2 year old had fun in the play area. The butterflies were neat to see. Aside from that, the place was small aside from the large gift shop and many of the exhibits were closed. It is a bit overpriced for the experience in my opinion.
Tomas Roa Cerda
Incredible place and very friendly service but, I think it’s too much money for the short circuit. If you don’t have any discount I don’t recommended to visit. It’s ok for few bucks but not for $25 or more
Larry Shulman
We took our 5 year old granddaughter and had a great time. The displays were great (spiders, fish) but the open area with the butterflies was amazing. They were everywhere. .... on the trees and on us too. We will be back.
Aliya Mauch
Amazing as always. Timed entry required but the place was very light on visitors (we went on Sunday at 3 pm). No touching Rosie the tarantula :( but understandable with COVID protocols. Can touch hissing cockroaches. Saw the largest moth in the world this time - Hercules adult moths do not have usable mouths and do not feed. they only live around 2-8 days, which is long enough for mating and egg-laying to take place. They can spend up to two years in the cocoon!!!
Playground was closed - sad, but again understandable.
Could touch sea stars. Also noticed few new tanks/acquariums with corals. Gift shop is open.
It took us 45 min to get through, they give up to 80 min.
I recommended you check out the paths behind the pavilion - there is pond with fish and various plants/flowers.
Jimmy Young A Maldonado
Amazing place, great collection of insects and sea animals. Very educational. The butterflies are just beautiful. Great parking, very nice staff, clean bathrooms, and nice store with artcrafts and learning toys. Please visit and enjoy from the many beautiful insects.
Ben Lake
Six stars! This is not a huge zoo, and not really in the typical sense with large outdoor animals. It is billed as an "invertebrate zoo", so it focuses on insects but also has marine animals, too. But it really excels at providing meaningful kid experiences and our 3yo and 5yo really enjoyed it! Many of the terrariums have a kid-height platform so they can see the occupant up close. You can also hold "Rosie" the tarantula! The butterfly exhibit is obviously the biggest draw, and is really well done - not as large as Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX, but equally high-quality. Tons of opportunities to see large, colorful butterflies up close.

This is a decent facility for short, half day trips with your kids. The play area was updated and great for kids under 6. The whole place is like one exhibit at the science museum, except they have a nice nature area. There is no place to eat indoors. Staff are friendly.
Becki Kemp
My granddaughter got married to the love of her life and the venue was beautiful the special events staff were so awesome! Thank you so much also for caring for God's precious little critters.
Israel Rangel
Definitely a fun time for family, kids, or for those who want to see some beauty in nature. Seeing butterflies being released into their new home and watching many of them fly around you in an open space is really cool and an experience not easily forgotten. I recommend going here.
Camille Wishum
I love love love this place!!! Talk about being one with nature! There's a variety of little crawling creatures but wow the butterflies are in the 1000s I love butterflies. This place is so educational for me and my five year old daughter!
Serena D
What a great place to learn and explore bugs ... seriously. They seem to do really well with kids and have a lot more than just butterflies. It was wonderful to be amongst the butterflies- I really felt like I was transported to another place and loved watching all of them fly around. Do watch where you step though ... butterflies don't know not to land on the ground. Can't wait to go back!
Hillary Westover
Wonderful family museum. My favorite was the butterfly room. It was so beautiful and peaceful. My 11 year old daughter thought the hatching cocoons were so cool. There are some hands on exhibits which we pet a star fish. This is good for kids and adults of all ages.
Stephen Verdieck
In addition to the beautiful flutterbys 😊, there is multiple sections dedicated to other bugs and crawly things. You can hold a Tarantula, touch Starfish, Crabs, its very cool. Once you make it into the actual pavilion, its beautiful. There are so many types of butterflies and if you're lucky one will land on you and just hang out. Great for Kids and Adults!
Christopher Daneco
Ahhhhhh! I love this place so much! They had so many butterflies that were active and flying all around! So happy I have a membership!
Kimberly Borgman
This place is truly magical. I LOVE butterflies and actually do my own butterfly art. If I worked or lived closer I'd come here all the time. What an amazing place. I just wish they sold their dead butterflies to locals to make art.
Erin Bailey
Great weekend activity! Easy to bring a little one along, even in a stroller. Paths to walk outside in the garden, butterflies, sea animals, bugs and spiders and bees!
Jason Wold
First time going there, and I had a blast! The butterfly release was amazing. So many different beautiful types of butterfly! And then there's the sealife, the octopus and horseshoe crabs. So much fun!
Kyle Small
This is a fun place to go to if you're looking for something to do on the weekends or in the Summer. The staff were really friendly and there were many critters to check out! Admission wasn't terrible for 4 people, and everyone in our group really enjoyed it. If you love butterflies or if you're just looking for something to do, this place is great!
Sally H
Lots of fun! We came for the butterflies but also enjoyed the tarantulas and octopus. Took about an hour to walk through everything, taking our time.
Becca Bornstein
This was such an interesting place! One of the only invertebrate zoos in the world. There was even a place where guests could hold a tarantula (with guidance from a staff member). Of course my favorite part was the tropical greenhouse type space where all the butterflies and moths are. There were so many types to see, and purchasing a butterfly guide for $1 on entry is worthwhile to help identify them. It is possible to get good photos (even with a decent phone camera) when the butterflies stop on a flower, just be sure not to touch them as it can shorten their lifespan. If possible, attend a butterfly encounter (happening at 12:30 and 3:30 when I was there). A very knowledgeable employee taught the crowd (which included lots of young children) about how butterflies and the rainforest are critical to our planet, introduced us to several types of butterflies before releasing them, and encouraged us to do our part to support conservation efforts. All around a good time, and worth stopping by if you're in the area.
Kattitude_
I love this place! If you go early to avoid the crowds, you may miss out on the butterfly release. Still amazing to see the variations in colour, shape and size of the butterflies. Please remember to NOT touch them. They have such short lives already.
Staff was pretty awesome and available for any questions.
Snow Sniffer
They have have 5$entry on special day witch it's totally worth it. It kinda small place so you have to take your time .ur able to touch live starfish and horseshoe crab looking thing. Then they have a cool green house for butterflies, with some seating to allow butterflies to land on u. After that there is a kids indoor playground with informational wall pieces in the area they also have a gift shop and outside sell hot dogs and Etc
KT Snail Lady
So much more than butterflies! They have a really awesome cephalopod; she's only 9 months old. And if you really want a treat.... they have a butterfly release. Around 3:30pm is when I experienced this beautiful circle of life & death.
C Hardin
So many gorgeous butterflies fluttering around. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed watching the different types interact. Definitely an afternoon well spent.
Nephi Wright
This facility is very well kept and has a large variety of arthropods. Everything from the expected butterflies to spiders, crabs, and bees. It is great for kids with indoor play equipment, live exhibits, and animals you can touch.
Lauren
Great experience for kids. My 1 year old loved running up and down the steps to the exhibits, learning about the different creatures and pointing out all of the flowers and chasing the butterflies through the pavilion! The visitors center and gift shop are also a very nice experience.
Jenny Victor
$13 per person for a very unique experience. The folks working there are very kind and very knowledgeable. Touch tank for starfish, a wonderful butterfly garden and of course the best part: Gary the bird. many species that you will not see anywhere else!
megan zundel
We only came for the rainforest yoga, which we had to book 2 weeks in advance. Totally worth it! Now, I've never done yoga before,so I kind of wish they would teach the moves instead of just tell you which poses to do, but the instructor did her best to help everyone.
The butterflies were amazing. They were very friendly and trusting. The whole vibe was relaxed.
They were doing a bit of construction inside, and yet it was still pretty neat, with all of their little exhibits.
This would be a great place for kids, or just a day out!
Ariana Waite
Super crowded, so I kind of expected someone to be around in the butterfly room to answer questions that we had. Otherwise it was a great experience for everyone in our group, from the toddlers to the preteen to the adults.
Jackie Mowery
Butterflies are mobile flowers. We always called them flutterbys, because they flutter by. There are thousands of flowers, both mobile and not at the Butterfly Pavilion. You walk through a lush, tropical garden surrounded by brilliant splashes of color, and some of them will land on your shoulder. Large and small, you can learn about them all from displays on the wall at the entrance of the atrium.
In other rooms you can see and learn about other insects and such. You can even hold a Mexican Rose Tarantula (shudder, no thanks).
Outside there is even a giant metal Preying Mantis for sacrificing unruly children.
Actually, this a great place to take kids, and adults love it too.
Rachel Foster
This was an awesome experience for us, and I’m glad because we sort of splurged on a membership. We went early (10am) which is always the key for cultural attractions around town and were not disappointed. My 3 year old loved all the butterflies, as well as the undersea creature exhibit and the bees. The guides are friendly and helpful/patient as they explain guidelines for touching the tarantula/starfish and crabs. We got a good hour in, a more resilient family might make it longer but when we have a membership we typically bail within an hour or two, on a good day.
As it’s nearby we’ll definitely be returning, a fun, unique passtime for the kids. I can’t attest to their onsite food items but since it’s generally the case that food at cultural attractions around town is overpriced and not that great we pack our lunches.
Danielle Hatton
Always a fun time and the kids love coming here, I also love that they offer weddings in the butterfly room 😍
Tim Frye
Little pricey for what it is, but held the interest of all 4 of our kids, ages 5 to 14. Probably 2-3 hours of stuff to do, no more. Butterflies are beautiful and calming.
tamara richardson
Highly recommend! Beautiful butterflies and they even have outdoor walking trails. Takes about an hour to go through. On their site, you can get a $1 off coupon.
Haley T
Beautiful and peaceful! I went around noon on a weekday and there weren’t many people there which was nice because I didn’t feel rushed or crowded. They have more than butterflies - I held Rosie the tarantula and saw the octopus swimming around!
Rachel Courtney
Little place with lots to see. Tarantulas, scorpions and more in one area, then you move to the aquarium and then to butterflies. Great opportunities for photos. Family friendly for sure
Casey Meraz
This is a great place to take kids. They have a rather large butterfly room where there are hundreds of butterfly’s flying around. The other nature exhibits were good too. It’s a great way to have a fun educational experience for an hour or two.
Samantha Christoffersen
It was a fun experience! Loved the butterfly exhibit and the bees! I wish it was bigger, we went through the whole thing in less than 2 hours.
James Pratt
We had a great time at the Butterfly Pavilion. My three kids, ages 5-11, all found plenty of fun things to look at and touch. There is an insect room (mostly spiders, including a tarantula you can hold in your hand), a sea life room where you can touch sea stars and horseshoe crabs, and of course the butterfly room itself, all of which seemed to be geared right at their age group. There is also an indoor play area for the smaller kids, and an "insects of Colorado" exhibit that felt more like leftovers tucked into a corner than a full exhibit.
The biggest drawback to the Butterfly Pavilion is its size. With only three smallish exhibits to explore, we made it through the entire place in less than an hour. We went back through each room a second time to get a bit more time out of our admission fee, but stretching this out to even a half-day activity would be a chore. Its main draw, the butterfly room, is beautiful but it is a relatively small space. Winding pathways through the room help create the feel of a larger area, but even so, much of the peaceful calm created by the butterflies was canceled out by the cramped quarters, with people trying to squeeze by each other on the paths. If you can find a slow time to visit, this may be less of an issue, but we went on a Thursday morning expecting it to be slow and it was very busy.
Recommended for families with kids under 12; the exhibits seem to be aimed right at the younger crowd and they will probably love it, but older kids might not get as much out of it. Just don't expect to be able to kill an entire day here like you might with the zoo or natural history museum, and you and your family will enjoy yourselves!
Derek Ricke
Very nice place for a short visit, particularly kid friendly. The one-time visit prices seem a bit high but the memberships are very reasonable. The butterfly room itself is very nice with tropical plants as well. Not as big as i had hoped, but still worth it. Also their ball room would be a nice place for a small event.
Heather Long
The volunteers and staff were very informative and knowledgeable about the exhibits, friendly and helpful. The establishment was well kept, and so pretty. We loved the Butterfly Garden!
Deb Clif
This place was so cool. Stopped by for about an hour and a half, which was just about right for my 7 and 10 year old. They had an area for kids to dig in the soil/dirt to find critters. Try to go when they release the new butterflies, it was amazing! If my kids were a few years younger we could have spent ours there, but we still loved the place.
Tatiana Carrillo
Amazing experience will come back again , friendly staff. Lots of fun facts and a cute, scary looking tarantula haha. There’s going to be something fun for spider lovers so go check out the website .
Ka Lun Chan
Educational and well organized, well worth the admission fee.
They also let you get hands on with some of the bugs ( with supervision ) which is really cool.
Kid friendly
Staffs show genuine love toward the exhibition and knowledgeable.
Kimmy Ann
By 5 year old daughter and my 10 year old autistic son we had lots of fun especially with the water creatures we got to pet a starfish and a sand crab which was super fun I definitely say that you should go and check it out and here's a picture of my favorite butterfly that I found
Nikole Young
Such a nice place to spend some time. You can see some insects, crustaceans, and of course butterflies. The pavilion is landscaped beautifully and there are so many butterflies.
Amy onate
Easy online reservations, they have two seperate lines for members and online reservations and walk ins. Luckily there was no line when I went at 3pm. My toddler loved the experience with the butterflies the most.
Lindsays A Happy Camper
Such a fun place. You can come here a 100 times and still see something new. The bug and butterfly rooms are amazing.
Mamatha A
Loved the experience and I held the rossie (spider) which is bit unique, employee’s were very friendly and informative.
Andrew Linden
Amazing place!!! Went here with our 1 year old and she had a great time in the butterfly sanctuary.
Madeline Schaab
Fun afternoon activity! We went on a Saturday and it was $5 day. They had a butterfly release at 12:30PM when we were there. Great gift shop too with beautiful butterfly art.
Jason Antonacci
If you haven't been, you need to go. It is an amazing experience to walk through the lush garden greenhouse surrounded by free flying butterflies. Plus the staff is super nice and eager to discuss all the exhibits. Love this place.
Craig Richardville
A Fun and Fantastic and Educational Place for All Ages - A Must See!
robert drain
Had a wonderful time with my family, who were visiting from Peru. They don't speak any English but yet they had they level of intrigue, curiosity, and excitment as i had. They price of admission is better then most and they offer military discount. Highly recommended. Oh and make sure you hold Rosie.
Christian Symond
Cool place to take the kids. They have a large assortment of insects and bugs. They also have a play area. The Butterfly area is very cool with walking paths and Butterflys flying freely throughout.
Jim Podolak
We have been visiting on and off for 20 years.Always a treat. Take the kids and go.
Amanda Lontine
I remember coming here as a kid and it hasn’t changed hardly at all which is good and bad. I feel like it could definitely use some updates and maybe more hands on exhibits. It’s overall a very small place and if it weren’t for the Colorado backyard playground we wouldn’t have spent much time at the pavilion at all. I did love the butterfly room. There were so many butterflies to see but the rest of the place was underwhelming.
Rebecca Rau
Lovely place, really clean and safe. My daughter absolutely loved holding Rosie the tarantula and all the different animals and exhibits. Also, the butterflies!!!!
Judy McCrary
We happen on it by accident. We were just out driving looking for anything interesting to do!!! One of the best finds of our trip!!!!
Rosie was beautiful 😍 🕷
All the insects 🐛🐝🪲🐞🦗🪳🪱 were great!
The Butterflies 🦋 😍 💛 and Moths ♥ were the best!
Yardarm Ramon
Saw lots of exotic butterflies in the Butterfly Pavilion. Volunteer staff explain the process of caterpillar morphing to elegant flying creatures. Their is a small cafe for snacks and a gift shop at the end of your visit. The only problem we had was visiting the pavilion was the parking. Early tickets were sold out and we had to get the 11:00a but there wasn't enough parking. They stagger the amount of guest that come through but don't really check when their time has expired. Hence, congested parking.
K J
I grew up visiting the Butterfly Pavilion. Now I bring my daughter here. So much has changed, but it’s still the same. The things that have changed are some of the set ups. All of the updates are smart and engaging. Now thing things that have stayed the same are the best things, the volunteers and staff still being this energy to the Butterfly Pavilion that you don’t get anywhere else. Anyone there with a name tag is knowledgeable of what is at the Pavilion, it so much fun having a casual conversation with anyone wearing a name tag.
Kellicia
I recently photographed a wedding at the Butterfly Pavilion and it was so magical! The staff was incredible helping us in the butterfly room to find all of the amazing spots! I highly recommend to do a small wedding or elopement here!
Joshua Perfit
Beautiful variety of butterflies & plants. Our family enjoyed our visit during our trip to Colorado.
Andres Jimenez (MRLNLY)
A lot of fun areas and activities for kids.
Kim Freiburger
The pavilion is beautiful. The butterflies are free to fly all over. The smell of the flowers hits you as you go into the room.
Alan Duncan
Very enjoyable afternoon today. The butterflies were all around and awesome to watch.
Nadia Cleary
This place is beautiful and full of butterflies. I love how they let you feel the tarantula and feel the starfish. I wish it could be a longer experience but not to bad for $12 per person.
Jessica Matthews
Beautiful butterflies!!! Its got inside so be prepared for that. Great experience
Cats Corner
Absolutely one of my favorite places! I'm not a fan of insects, yet I love the Butterfly Pavilion. Excellent way to introduce children to the magical world we live in. So much beauty and information packed into this place. A must see for everyone.
Achyuthan J.R.
Amazing place with plenty of butterflies, and also as few beautiful spiders. The butterflies are super colorful and some landed on me as well. Wonderful place to visit when you're in Denver!
Taylen O'Leske
Most of the staff was kind and intelligent. It's a great place to take kids to teach them about butterfly's, and the spider is awesome as well. It's a shame more places don't let you play with large arachnids. They are such awesome creatures. My only complaint is, there doesn't seem to be a system in place to actually handle the guests who have decided to take it upon themselves to ruin random butterfly's lives for pictures or a laugh or sometimes just for sick cruel kicks. It's really really sickening to watch people harm such beautiful creatures so heartlessly. And there doesn't seem to be anything the sometimes clearly frustrated staff could really do about these grown ass adults being worse than I can explain acting a fool. It makes me sick honestly the amount of disrespect the staff puts up with every day. You guests that don't follow rules and don't respect other life seriously make me wish the staff could sue. If you want to PLAY with butterflies this IS NOT THE PLACE. If you're ready to explain to your kids that touching butterflies hurts them. And that you need to be sensitive and careful and considerate this is a wonderful place to show them the beauty of some of Earth's smallest and most beautiful creatures.
Rachel Beltz
Price is worth it. There's a variety of things to do here. Butterfly pavilion, holding Rosie the tarantula, spiders, aquatic area, gift shop, play area for kids. Fun for friends, kids, families, and photgraphers.
Candice Cyr
The kids had a great time. Many butterflies landed on each of us. Plus they have other fun exhibits and interactive areas to touch a starfish and horseshoe crab or hold a tarantula and hissing roach.
Ivana Mendez
We got in with the EBT discount, so $8 for 4 of us and that's the only reason I brought my kids.
At full price it isn't worth it, tbh.
My kids enjoyed it, but it is small and the touch tanks were very bland and not much to see or touch.
The Butterfly Pavilion is the best part, of course. My kids loved seeing all the different colors and sizes of butterflies.
I read that in 2023 they're moving to a bigger facility, so hopefully that means better exhibits and more to see.
Sandra Kramp
Wow! What a treat it is to come here! The directions on the website says to limit your time to 80 minutes, but it was a slow day when my friend and I went and we spent over 3 hours looking at the butterflies. One or two landed on us! I cannot recommend this place enough.
nathaniel tipton
Good time with family. Always to good to inspire your children with nature. Especially when they get to hold Rosie.
Karen Miller
I've heard about this place for years, but this is the first time for me and I'm so glad I went. It was pure joy to be with the butterflies and just watch them float and be beautiful. I loved letting Rosie sir on my hand and wish it could have been longer. I'll come back again.
J col
Nice little place. Good variety of exhibits(not just butterflies) & of course the butterflies... There are a lot of them, in a small rain forest, very well done. You will encounter many of them. It is a bit overpriced/costly though.
J B
Highly recommend. Amazing experience, friendly staff. A lot to do. Not just butterflies.
Lisa Parys
Could be more for the money. The staff was nice.the butterflies were beautiful. Good time overall. My sister had the most fun in the play area.
Samuel Wright
What a fun place to visit. There is nothing more relaxing than wondering around the pavillion and seeing the invertebrates fly all around. Made me feel like a kid again.
Geoff B
It was a very nice place. Worth the price of admission. It was our last day in Denver and we were planning to spend a few hours there but had trouble keeping the kids (4 & 5) entertained so we had to cut the trip short at about an hour and a half .
Toni Abachiche
This is the best place to come if you like a calming atmosphere such a beautiful and calm place to come I love the butterflies I love the education about the certain bugs and starfish and other fish and Rosie the tarantula it's just so much to see and such a nice calming place to go.
Kaily Wright
The butterfly pavilion has lots to offer, including Rosie the spider an aquarium room,of course the butterfly room which is great for pictures.
Sue Folbigg
The butterfly pavilion is an awesome place. My grand kids enjoy going there. HOWEVER, very disappointed with the staff when planning my granddaughters 5 th bday party. There was a lot of miscommunication with our contact there Brittany. When I asked her specific questions she told me one thing but the email that was sent to us 12 hours prior to the party stated the opposite. The pavilion hosts, although they seemed friendly enough never really interacted with the kids. Olivia who did the butterfly release was awesome, talked to the kids included them. Overall I would NOT recommend this venue for a kids bday party. I would tell you to go to the Denver aquarium they do an awesome job with kids bday parties and communicate often during the whole planning process.
Uri nun
A bit overpriced for the amount of content to view here, in my opinion. There's a small ocean like exhibit add will as standard but exhibit. Very large and humid butterfly walk in exhibit. Definitely caters toward the very young but easily runs out of allure for older or those who have been to similar attractions.
Dottie Cooke
We love this place for a half day visit. Hold a tarantula, pet a crab or starfish, not to mention the butterflies. Great visit.
Hillary Munoz
This is a very cute place to visit hang out with the butterflies and read a book!!! Hold an awesome spider named Rosie. It's small but very awesome to see!!!
Nicki Youngsma
Great invertebrate museum, especially for kids. There are butterflies, insects, spiders, and sea creatures. It's a great place to go for an indoor day trip.
Daniel Gennaro
Don’t have that much time to squeeze in a full trip to the zoo? well the Butterfly Pavilion won’t take that long at all Denver Butterfly Pavilionto walk through, and no matter what your age- from kids to adults, you can entertain your senses and imagination throughout. You can’t help but be amazed by the natural wonder of everything from the itty bitty insects, to the gigantic and prehistoric Horseshoe crab! It’s downright fascinating to be able to touch a sea-creature that’s considered a ‘living fossil’ that’s more than 450 million years old! Yikes! 🙂 Following the rubbing, feeling, and peeking at sea life, the Butterfly Pavilions claim to fame is something comparable to what the Garden of Eden must’ve been like with thousands of millions of butterflies fluttering gracefully over your head. Vivid colors, greens, blues, reds! the beauty of God’s creation shines through in the butterfly rainforest.
missy ledford
Really enjoyed the Butterfly Garden and the outdoor walking path. Indoors contained tons of educational opportunities for kids, including touch areas of a tarantula and a “crab” (that’s really the spider family), as well as ant farms, bee hives, etc.
Matt Branca
Well, you've got the bug area, the fish area, and the butterfly part. Takes 15 minutes to an hour to do the whole thing, depending on how much you want to learn while you're there. Knowledgeable staff who know a lot of stuff about things are continuously educating you as you walk through. Some even know things about stuff! Nice gift store, Nathan's hot dogs out front, and no long lines.
Mike Cavaco
Loved it, loved it, loved it. My widlfe and I always look for something to do with nature while.on vacation. We have not been to a butterfly habitat such as this since the Butterfly Garden in Missouri
The honest review
What a wonderful experience! I have never seen so many children with their parents enjoying life. Can't wait to return to a place where the world comes alive!
karen ledford
Nice little rainforest setting with lots of beautiful plants and butterflies. Also lots of bug displays, tarantula holding station, storytime and day camp for your littles!
David Ohara
Fun family visit location. Was great help years back also for my wedding. Got to release butterflies for wedding.
Jason Arment
This place is absolutely amazing! If you are a parent check it out yourself before you bring the entire family. The structure is not big, and is full of the most amazing creatures!
Leah Gelfand
Absolutely stunning. The main room has tropical butterflies flying around you everywhere. Outside of that, there are many smaller exhibits with lots of exotic and fascinating arthropods and cephalopods. They had giant isopods when I visited, which were awesome.
Jaana Coon
I always love coming here. The butterflies are beautiful and fluttering everywhere. The staff are nice and very friendly.
Sandy
Such a relaxing peaceful space. I think it’s wonderful to have the Butterfly Pavilion as a learning center for young kids and adults!
Charles Schiell
Great fun, and quite handicap accessible. The staff was most helpful with assisting us and my father who has Parkinson's.
Emily Barton
Excellent place to visit with kids. Plenty of activities and things to see inside as well as lovely walking trail outside.
Hannah B
Great experience, beautiful exhibits, super friendly and educational staff. We will be back!
Gap Blank
It is very fun . You get to learn new stuff and they let you hold Rosie a tarantula😆
She is very friendly. And you can also visit dori and nemo. Also you can touch other animals along the way😘 …
Cassandra Villanueva
Kinda pricey for the small area you can explore but the kids loved it. They got to hold Rosie the tarantula, touch starfish, walk thru the butterfly garden and dig for grub worms.
Shelby Zinchini
my favorite place to go!! i find the best time to be in the butterfly room is early in morning or afternoon to beat the rush they sometimes have. such a majestic and beautiful place :)
Joanne Barton
Just a joy! So many beautiful Butterfly's and plants. They also have several sea animals, some your even welcome to hold. I just love spiders and you can get to hold Rosie!
They have these precious Butterfly's at all stages so your able to see just how they live. The inside is kept very warm to being tropical and moist. It's a tiny bit scary because you need to watch just where your walking as these delights do land on the floor.
The staff is great and extremely knowledgeable and it shows they enjoy working at this gem of a place. Parking is plentiful, bathrooms clean, and the also have a very nice gift shop. I can't wait to go back and take your camera! Enjoy...
Stephanie Cromar
It was a beautiful and great experience! We bought the membership and will be back often. My kids (10,8, 3 and 1 year old) all loved it!
Melody Welsh
Felt a little pricey for how small and how quickly we went through it. Also in the hight of covid they had so many people crammed in there.
Elisse Kenaley
Great family fun. The butterfly conservatory is captivating! Perfect place to get some good photos.
Robert Russom
Great educational hands-on learning
catherine johnsen
They should enlarge this place, they have beautiful butterflies, nice gift shop.
Jessica Taken
The facility is well maintained and there are numerous interactive exhibits. The staff is there to assist with live animal interesting and there is a large butterfly atrium to walk through. Be mindful as you move along - the butterflies land anywhere and everywhere at anytime!
There is a general time limit set to ensure proper flow of entering/exiting patrons, which helps keep the number of visitors to a safe level. There are no mask requirements at this time, the staff cleans and sanitizes the facility.
Janice
It was a fun experience for the grandchildren. They weren't as active today, the butterflies that is.
Annette Borchardt
We had a great time here! So many beautiful butterflies everywhere. It was fun!
Michael DeGradi
We were here for Rosie's birthday last month and loved it! My son is 1 1/2 years and they had plenty to keep him busy. He loved watching the bees, butterflies and playing in Tikes Peak playground
Sara Lawson
Lovely tropical site with hundreds of butterflies.
Esther Nohz
Great place to take your kids , the tour could be a little short but it’s definitely worth the time , also I noticed there’s not too many butterflies.
Kathy Hart
Beautiful! It's not big but there was plenty to learn about besides just butterflies. Don't miss out on Rosie!
R L
Neat experience. I liked how interactive the exhibits were. Wish the butterfly room was bigger.
Rachel Campbell
Wish the plants where not so dead and that they would pick up the dead butterflies because that is all my son seemed to want to point out. 😕 …
Barbara Jacquemin
Many good exhibits, even an opportunity to touch some sea life. Loved the signs and enjoyed the butterflies! Many guides are helpful with information. Had a picnic on tables outside after visiting!
Mary Katherine
Beautiful experience! For such a relatively small structure, it is laid out in such a way that you never feel crowded.
Frantz Jacinthe
Pretty cool place, my daughter had a blast!
Tamara Garcia
My little ones had so much fun here. I held the Tarantula Rosie. It was a great experience for the whole family.
Elizabeth Miller
It was $30 for two adults. It doesn’t take long to go through the place so this is perfect for a quick afternoon outing. They had several different insects, including a tarantula to hold, as well as an aquarium section with several awesome aquatic fish, anemones, etc. The butterfly room was made into a rainforest type atmosphere with lots of plants and a humidified environment. It was a great experience to be up close to so many butterflies.
Dave B
Took family here. Enjoyed seeing the exhibits before going into the butterfly 🦋 pavilion. …
Odalis Torres
I love this place! Such a fun experience and great for little kids! It was kinda busy, but that means it was very popular! They even have a little indoor playground for little ones!
Paula Pierce
Great place for kids & adults. Enjoyed the outing and learned several things too! Enjoyed!
Heraa Hashmi
Great, great fun! Even though it's targeted for kids, it's for everyone. Favorite place was the butterfly pavilion.
Sara Sotelo
My favorite place in town to sit and mediate on nature. I’ve volunteered here and been here many times and there is fun for the whole family.
Thomas Libbin
My wife and enjoyed the sea creatures, bugs and butterflies
Jason R
What a great place to bring kids or just go as an adult. Id recommend going by yourself one time just to soak it all in.
Jeremy Montoya
Good time for us adults and our 2 year old. The only reason I would say 4 stars is for the adults there doesn't seem to be a lot drawing you back after that first visit. Definitely worth going once!
Brylee R
Wow! It was amazing and so cool! I learned tons and was amazed. I highly recommend coming if you can, it is awesome!
Mickey McNulty
I love this place! There's not only butterflies, but lots of different bugs and even sea creatures. Very fun, very educational. Bring the whole family and don't forget to say hi to Rosie!
Abby Quesada
Volunteers and employees are very knowledgeable and willing to spend time answering your questions. Loved the imsect exhibits, above all the butterflies!
Nataly Lerma
The staff is super friendly. We enjoyed our time there. We had a big group of adventurers. We did a craft with the kids in their lunch área. We went indoors a saw Rosie and other creepy crawly creatures. We saw some underwater creepy Crawley creatures and touched a stingray and the Star. Then we went into the butterfly room and it's just amazing the butterflies will come and land on you and It's just beautiful. We also had lunch And the kids were able to play in their play structures and they have an amazing nursing room and their rocker is so comfy.

We showed up 3 minutes prior to opening, it was 38 degrees, the doors we're unlocked, so naturally we walked in to wait to check in, waiting in the heated building. When the lady at the admissions counter snapped that we still have 3 minutes. So understandably we waited outside. Then the 9 insect and spider exhibits, we're fairly dirty. We didn't have a long wait to see Rosie, which was highlight of the trip. The aquatic exhibit is lackluster at its best. Lastly the butterfly pavilion exhibit, was great. My daughter really enjoyed seeing all the sweet butterflies. However my son was holding his "I held Rosie sticker" and the older lady named Virginia swooped in thinking he was holding a butterfly, making us feel uncomfortable in the pavilion. The entire time in the pavilion she was stalking us through the plants making us quickly leave the exhibit. Overall it was a great experience however on the pricey side.

Love every minute spent there
Noah Leahy
I loved the place and it had very nice staff. The place also very toddler friendly with lots of steps they can stand on to more easily see some of the exhibits.
Terez Chapman
The different exhibits offered a large amount of varying invertebrates. Even though it's a small building they found a way to include information in every corner and on most walls. I will say that you have to pay attention and read. lol A lot of questions people usually have can be answered by reading the plaques. The butterfly exhibit was the highlight for me of course. They are very diligent about maintaining the containment and safety of the butterflies. It's a great place to go alone if you are curious/amazed by small creatures. I'm definitely going again. The gift shop does have affordable gifts that can be given to anyone of any age. The staff member I interacted with in the gift shop was really knowledgeable and patient. I'd recommend visiting here to anyone. Also! If you have an EBT card you get a discount 💚
Max Clouse
Great atmosphere with lots of fun for kids and adults to enjoy. Recommend about 2-3 hours to explore the pavilion.
Allison Blankinship
It was great because the butterfly would land on your head or clothes. They also have bugs.
teodora moga
Great place for children under 5 years old. My daughter is 10 and the pavilion seems to be a little small for that age. She enjoyed the butterfly room and holding Rosie on her hand
Beverly Gordon
My husband and I visited Colorado for the first time in April 2022. I spent my birthday at the butterfly Pavilion. It was amazing! So beautiful! Afterwards we went to a winery. Perfect birthday 🥳 …
Keith Golden
Had an absolute blast and our daughter loved the spiders and holding Rosie.
Damon Youmu
Amazing place. Ivy is SUPER awesome and knowledgeable in all areas 10 out of 10 will come back.
Karlie Z
I have been visiting hear fir years. Never disappointed. Beautiful butterflys.
C AllenBrown
Such a beautiful and tranquil environment. You could just stay there all day and relax and watch butterflies! Enjoy. CAB🦋😍 …
Coleman Rau
Great place to see butterflies, spiders, beetles and small aquatic animals.
DIXIE CHAMBERS
The play area for kids is a SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN...so dangerous too many children are allowed in there at once, and the people who work there just stand and never do anything to stop the rough stuff that is let go on there. Plus its not clean. The Butterfly Pavillion was nice beautiful butterflies for sure.
m mustafa
This is a great place to visit for a few hours and be awed and enlightened about butterflies and other invertebrates. The rainforest was swarming with diverse colorful butterflies and it almost seemed like you stepped into a magical fairyland.
We also were educated about various sea creatures and even got to touch them. It was a magical afternoon. I heartily recommend visiting.
Susan Adams (My Father's Gifts)
A very great educational family friendly place to visit.
B Local
Delightful experience and worth the $12. Wear a bright shirt if you’d like them to land on you, and if you’re there when it goes from cloudy to sunny, all the butterflies seem to get active all at once!
Cintia Molina
Lovely place I got my membership to visit every time I’m in town
Lynn C
Absolutely love this place. So many beautiful butterflies & such a great learning experience for kiddos. Make sure to visit Rosie & check out the gift shop.
Keith Ebbs
The exhibits and facility itself are fantastic. I’m deducting stars however, because the instructor on the invertebrates “class” lacks when it comes to teaching children. A student on a field trip felt she was wrong about something, and instead of addressing it, she told him “next time you have a thought, I want you to keep it in your head.” It was condescending and seemed like she was offended by this child’s opinion or embarrassed that he corrected her. I’ll never know who is right and what the facts on this beetle is, because she did not bother to properly educate around that particular topic. Kids have questions and comments, and if you can’t handle that, go teach the dead.
Saleha Khan
It was a lovely experience. They had an entire section on 🐛 bugs and some lovely starfish and corals also. The management had made the exhibits accessible to small children by making platforms around the exhibit boxes. There were also some exhibits in the fish section where the children could touch some of the corals and fishes . The actual butterfly 🦋 area was beautiful. Temperature controlled with double doors to make sure the butterflies don't escape. There were benches placed strategically to be able to enjoy the wide variety of butterflies all around. The small nature walk outside was also beautiful. The children got to see some paraire dogs.
adam anderson
Four of us for under $40. Great entertainment for all ages. Kids loved holding Rosie!
Jeanette Fox
Amazing place full of knowledge, peace and butterflies!!!
Mary J
Great experience 2 of 3 of my kids loved it years later my daughter (6 year old at the time) laughs that she was scared of butterfly. Really cute and educational
Ashleigh Wright
Amazing learning experience for all ages! My 18 month old loved every minute of it!
Sandra Barillot
We had a great experience. The place was clean and everyone was respectful to the social distancing.

The Butterfly Pavilion is so much more than its name suggests. When you enter you step into an entymological wonderland. From a wide array of arachnids (I got to hold a Chilean Rose Hair tarantula!!!) to some of the most beautiful insects you've ever seen. The displays are perfectly sized for individual viewing. Take your time and enjoy each exhibit, looking closely for the insects in the terraria. There are informational plaques on each vivarium. The water invertebrate collection is stunning and one of my favorites. There you can view all kinds of fascinating creatures. Take the opportunity to touch starfish and horseshoe crabs!
The butterfly house holds over 200 species of plants from around the world and countless species of butterflies. I cannot stress enough how important it is to take your time. Read the information on display, relish the sound of the stream meandering through the exhibit, and let your eyes lead you through a world of color and grace. Think that butterfly is brown and boring? Watch as the wings open to shock you with an iridescent blue delight! Look under every leaf. Stand still as butterflies fly around you. Pause in wonder as one lands on your arm or hand. There was even a wedding being held later that evening amid all that flora and fauna. I imagine it was magical.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely visit again when we're in town. An important note: I am 33 as of this review. I saw all ages at the pavilion, though many were children. My advice here is twofold. Anyone of any age will find something that speaks to them, so never think you are too old to visit. As for parents with children, taking time may not be in your child's repertoire. That's ok! I saw kids stop dead in their tracks at various displays. It may be one thing that captures your child's attention and fascinates them. That alone is worth the visit.
Bre “Breezy”
Serene and beautiful inside pavilion and outside grounds. Awesome face paintings!
Victor Samuel Jurado Angeles
It's a lovely place! from the entrance to the exit, to meet, to see and that the marioosas perch on you, it is wonderful! highly recommended.
The Mcpoopface (TheMcPoopFace)
Very good service so many butterflies, sea life, and , bugs
Alex A
Beautiful, hasn't changed a bit over the years. Great place to take anyone, anytime!
KAS
A true gem! 💎🦋Wheelchair accessible and ideal for young children, disabled and elderly folks as it's primarily indoors... A great place to fight the winter blues.
I highly recommend getting a +1 guest membership for the museum even if you only plan to go a few times, it's a wonderful place to take out of state guests.
A wonderful date place especially if you pack a picnic to enjoy on the covered patio!
A small pavilion which features an atrium of jungle plants and butterflies, a friendly tarantula if you're brave enough to hold it! And several species of aquatic invertebrates.
Try putting a bit of sugar water in your hair if you want to increase your odds of a butterfly landing on your head- and dress up cute as there's lots of selfie-opportunities here.
🦋 Don't forget, we all can grow and change, it's okay to hibernate when you're sad and come out of it ready to fly. You can do this ❣️🤞
Gary Nordlander
Butterfly 🦋 Pavilion was a perfect place to take my family and see the great beauty God created in the wonderful creatures.
Christina
Loved it! Lots of fun..Rosie was beautiful and great to hold. Lots of interesting things to experience and see.
Sheila Parrett
Very pretty and very cool. Hard to stop yourself from smacking them as they fly around your face
TJ Benrowski
Just moved to the area and decided to check this place out. It was a cute adventure for an hour. It's really small and $20 for a ticket was a bit much for what they have, however, you're also supporting a local business that does AMAZING work so I'd gladly pay double that. The staff was extremely kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. We were able to "pet" some fun water creatures. Overall, I think it's a great place to visit and support. Their mission and work is worth it.
Liz L.E.
Family fun!! We came from South Dakota and this was an awesome experience and fun for everyone!
Las Vegas Guy
Out standing visit, FYI pre purchased reserved tickets required
Sarah Lutz
A ton of fun for all of us, kids and parents alike. They had a play area, well sanitized and limited capacity. We also enjoyed petting the sea stars and crabs and learning about them. Also the garden trails outside were a nice walk and colorfully decorated so still a treat even in winter.
Becky Barton
The place was amazing! The butterfly enclosure was amazing, and it was really fun to see all of them. The living areas for the other animals, however, looked kind of small, especially for the spiders.
Sarah Woodard
Wonderful, relaxing place!
I do wish they didn't call themselves a zoo and that the gift shop had a few more items for adults. :)
Levia Hartman
Such a fun experience! Yes, I bravely held Rosie.
Chris Calvey
A nice place to bring visitors. Pretty neat collection of bugs and sea creatures, including a tarantula that you can hold in your hands - but the real stars are the butterflies of course. The pavilion itself is like a large indoor jungle greenhouse, with hundreds of different butterflies fluttering around. If you've never been to a similar place, it's a pretty magical experience!
Mikky Daub
A lot of beautiful beings to see here 🦋 …
Jesus Morales
Beautiful place my Daughter and son in law's wedding was so beautiful.
Brigitte Brodski
It's a short trip, but very fun. The people who work here love their job and love sharing the experiance. Little kids have fun seeing the bugs and butterflies, and there is a little play place. There is a private nursing room, or benches to sit an nurse in the play place. Unfortunatly the waterfountains are turned off.
Dima Abusara
Love, love, love. A must go to when visiting Boulder. So beautiful garden full of butterflies. My husband and I were lucky to have some butterflies standing on us :)
Michelle Bachtel
Absolutely beautiful place! Definitely worth the small fee they charge. Very clean well managed and super friendly staff and volunteers. We will be back!
Enrique Mata
I spent about an hour here and had the best time, especially when visiting the Butterflies! You're able to walk amongst them as they fly, eat, Sleep. Overall a good experience and the gift shop is really good as well.
Wickedly Charming
Hello! :)
The Butterfly Pavilion is a wonderful place to relax and explore all the wonders of the insect world which includes A cool Bee exhibit and complete education on Bees and how they help our environment... Spiders (Lots of Tarantulas) which includes A Tarantula named Rosie that you can hold and take pictures with...lots of Beetles, Roaches, Praying Mantises and some of the largest stick bugs I've ever seen...with other cool & rare spiders, beetles & bugs from all over.
The Butterfly enclosure is huge! You get to walk in the enclosed rainforest made for them and interact with all the different species of Butterfly's & lush Rainforest Plants. Its Beautiful, so many Butterflies with gorgeous color-combos on they're wings too see.
*The only very important rule there is that you cannot touch the butterfly's (they CAN land on you & you can take pictures but you cannot force them too land on you by touching them) and you have to watch your step so you don't step on them on the ground.
Its very fun, very educational and a great place to just sit and enjoy the experience, the total peace & beauty of it all.
There is a small gift shop with lots of cool toys, books, pictures & jewelry with A very limited snack & drink area. There is no restaurant or place to really sit & eat, so its recommended that you eat before or after your visit....there are restaurants near the Pavilion.
The Pavilion is small, it takes about a couple hours to get through the entire thing depending on how long you want to stay in the Butterfly enclosure to interact with the Butterfly's. This is a very educational & fun place for all ages, Adults, Teens & Children alike.
Take lots if pictures.
***Note: If you have Government Assistance (SNAP Or other Gov Assistance Programs) your entrance fee is reduced to only a couple dollars per person for your entire group!! You must bring proof of your Gov Assistance or your Card.
Please Call The Butterfly Pavilion in Denver Colorado if you have any questions.
Enjoy your day :)

Had such a wonderful time perusing the facility and finding these lovely butterflies
Sarah Peterson
Petting the starfish was great. So so many butterflies. Absolutely gorgeous. So peaceful even though it was busy while we were there. Definitely recommend visiting
Katy Zimmerman
Had my 5 year olds birthday here. The butterfly release was really cool, but the 2 hours of time with that included is not enough time after for food, gifts, and cake. It seemed very rushed for $400+. Also when going through the exhibit from the birthday room it starts you at the end you have to go around and out of the gift shop to get to the beginning
Gary Motil
Amazing place, go check it out, fun for all ages!
Billie Butler
We loved the butterfly pavilion! Not too crowed and the price was good. Gave a nice military discount. My boys enjoyed all the insects and the hands on exhibits.
Micah Thomas
Large variety of butteryflys, other insects and some sea creatures. Beautiful gardens outside.
Nicole Dieu
The Butterfly Pavilion never lets down! This was the best place to spend Mother's Day! The kids love seeing the spiders, water creatures, and butterflies. There were so many butterflies everywhere, you could've gotten lost in them and the lush surroundings. Hand's down amazing place for the family to soend a couple hours.
Maria Garcia
I took my grandkids today, we love the place but it was a little crowded.
Erica Hankins
I absolutely adore this place! ❤ Great place for families & fun!
Connie O'Dell
Always beautiful, a joy for adults and children alike! Nice facilities for dealing with children who become easily bored also. I had to make a reservation, but it was easy and available immediately on a weekday. Not at all crowded on a weekday, and loved the butterfly release talk/demonstration!
Shalini Naumov
Expensive considering you are only there for 30 mins or so and done with everything. Seeing the butterflies and then release then is cool but I wish they was more to see.
Matthew Koenig
My family loves this place. All the employees are super energetic and always super nice to my son and all his random questions. If you have young kids and live within 30 min I would suggest getting an annual family pass so you can stop by any time. We usually go 2 or 3 times a month for some fun after swim lessons.
Holly Delgado
My daughter got married here. They did a wonderful job setting up and with the butterfly release!!
Clarissa Smith
It was a wonderful experience!!! Definitely something my family won't forget.
Julie Adams
There were so many butterflies. Everyone enjoyed wandering around taking pictures.
Eric Burns
Such a great place! Super friendly staff, awesome array of animals ans very kid friendly.
Jacob Reynoldson
It was a clever spot to visit for mother's day. Great photo opportunities if you are patient.
Casey Lems
The butterflies are beautiful. Decent little aquarium area. Really nothing super over the top. The employees though are out of this world friendly and appreciative. The kids really got a lot from the visit even during these weird times.
Carlos Escobar
Great place for the kiddos! A bit pricey, but they loved the butterfly room!
Craig Roberts
Have been going here for years now. Started out taking the kids and family who visited from out-of-state and now we're taking the Grandbabies.
But, it has always been a perfect way to spend a relaxing day just to stroll through and examine all the different beautiful butterflies that float around as you walk or sit on one of the several bench seats they have positioned along the path.
The staff there is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. And everytime we have gone there has been several volunteers on-site giving presentations and explaining things, which raises the bar of fascination!
There is a snack / meal truck providing eats just outside attached to an outdoor eating area. And a gift shop with fun trinkets, shirts, etc.
The place is definitely set up with youngsters in mind as many of the exhibits have ramps to help the smaller ones as well as those in wheelchairs to get a better view.
There is also a small indoor area completely set up with small playground type equipment where the kids can run off some extra energy!
Another great feature is a small section that allows for petting starfish and horseshoe crabs!
As you can see there is just a lot to see and do to pass some good quality family time or just a personal place to let the stress unwind. But I just can't say enough about it. If your considering something that will enlighten and entertain all ages, I would highly recommend that you give this place a try.
Jose Alvarez
Really great place! Butterflies everywhere it's so beautiful. Take your partner or kids. They will enjoy it
Barb Zenner
Awesome place! Definitely worth the time, just amazing...
Zenaeh Siefers
Was super fun, my 10 and 12 yr old had fun HOWEVER just an fyi you cannot take strollers in the butterfly exhibit so you're carrying your small child. Plus it's very very humid in there so dress accordingly or you'll be like us and pouring sweat.
Paul Vetrone
Drove a school class today for a field trip. Excellent facility, clean, organized, very good learning experience for the children and myself as well. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
Definitely a recommended visit
Madison Adams
The butterfly area was really beautiful but most of the other stuff there is not really for adults. Most of the displays are really low so you have to bend down a bit to see them.
Coordman
Fun atmosphere and friendly workers who clearly enjoy their work. Fun place to explore!
Tim Belden Jr.
This place is really chill! There's no specific order you have to do anything in. The gift shop has a bunch of appropriate souvenirs. They have a few cool exhibits aside from the amazing Butterfly Pavilion exhibit! So many beautifully colored butterflies float right in front of your face! Would definitely recommend!
Lael Jimenez-Ramos
Super cute! kids loved it .great for a little day out.
Megan Fehr
The butterfly pavilion is a unique location to learn about invertebrates of all sorts, not just butterflies. The staff is so helpful and kind and this is a great spot for our young kids to explore and burn off some energy.
Gary Thomas
Fantastic collection of butterflies and other invertebrates. Special attraction for the little ones is to hold a hairy tarantula
Hancel Riley
Walking into the Butterfly Pavilion is like walking into a whole world of wonder. You see so many colorful Butterflies, meet a 40 year old turtle , touch a starfish and see the joy of your child. It's definitely worth going and to top it of the staff are knowledgeable and respectful:)
Kelly Nichol
This place was WAY cooler and more fun than expected! We had an amazing time & the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They also have a really unique shop inside and I had to leave with a bunch of goodies. I usually never buy at gift shops, but everything was fair priced and beautiful! Definitely worth checking out for all ages.
Ana Carolina da Fonte
One of the must do places if you have the chance. Great experience!
Tyler Vandenberg
We had a great time, even went on a nature walk with 2 staff members and caught Mantises. Facility and Staff are all very nice.
Julius Borchert
This is very big butterfly house with over 1,600 butterflies in a tropical atmosphere!
steffany crossan
Didnt have a great experience this time around, due to WAY too many people. Need a limit on people per hour or something different. Normally I love coming here. We couldn't even walk around it was so horribly crowded. No masks either. Just felt uneasy.
Cameron Allen
Great place to visit if you have young kids or just someone who loves insect and arachnids of any kind regardless of any age. Spring and summer you are able to experience more of the surrounding area. Knowledgeable and kind staff. Plus a beautiful butterfly house with lots of exotic species including plants.
Kayla Sprowls
My two and four year olds loved it! So many butterflies, plus lots of fun activities and creatures to see.
Ariana D
This place is so great. We allegedly visit here so the nephews can enjoy it, but I honestly love it too. The exhibits are amazing and of course I love Rosie the tarantula!!! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable if you have questions about the critters. Very easy to park at. Definitely a must-visit!!!!
Paul Velasco
Unique place that let's you see bug type wildlife up close. Most specimens are in separate 3-ish foot enclosures that let you get just the right view. They change some of them (smaller enclosures) regularly, so it is worth coming back every other month or so. Also have a small ocean exhibit to highlight how some bugs are related to ocean life. You get to see coral, horseshoe crabs, starfish, and other critters. And then there's the "butterfly room". A walk-through room with HUNDREDS of butterflies. All different species, sizes, and colors. This place is great for people and kids that aren't freaked out by bugs. I HATE spiders, and I was even able to hold Rosie (smaller desert tarantula). Definitely worth the visit at least once, and even regularly for local folks.
Eduardo Caballero
Got some really good pictures and had a lot of fun
Rachel Meints
My kids love this place. An excellent variety of butterflies and moths, plus hands on bug and ocean creature touching for the kiddos. Some recent redesigns have made the flow of the place much better. Don't forget to hold Rosie the tarantula on your visit. Keep a lookout for Bugs and Beer or Wings and Wine, the after hours cocktail parties.
Nicole Simoes
The butterfly nursery space was completely enchanting. The variety of butterflies makes them even more beautiful. I brought my 2 month old son and a friend came with her 2 year old and they both loved it! The pavilion is for everyone truly, you can't help be totally captivated by the natural space. There is an aquarium section where kids get to touch star fish. This was another great area. The staff is friendly and they are happy interacting w the kids. Also, the have a new play space that mimics Colorado outdoors, kids LOVE this area as well. All around great place for anyone to visit!
Ian Cornell
Excellent place for kids and adults. It is a very unique experience to have a tarantula crawl on you and have a bunch of butterflies land on you on the same day. My 2 year old had a whole bunch of fun over there as well. I would definitely recommend this place for a good family trip during a weekend in the summer.
Ella Rubio
Beautiful as a butterfly landed on my daughter n stood on her the whole time we were there that was pretty cool , so many Beautiful green plants staff was great.
Danielle Ingels
Lovely. Highly recommend if you like butterflies.
Hailey Thiel
We loved our visit to the Butterfly Pavilion- it offered us a warm place to play on a snowy Denver day. Lots to see and explore for our little one.
Ashley Allen
Loved it! It was a very cool experience all around from holding Rosie the tarantula to all the different kinds of butterflies! Will go back again!
Georgia Viado
We love the Butterfly Pavilion! It isn't too overwhelming or long for very small children. Engaging enough for big kids. Their gift shop is wonderful. Today we watched the new butterflies being released at the end of the day. It was informative and fun for me and my kids. There are lots of interactive elements. And there is a small play area at the end, which my kids always look forward to.
Eric Arvola
This is a great place. The butterfly's are awesome and you have to hold Rosie. I had a lot of fun and it was a good price as well.
Corey Desimoni
This place is awesome. I'm a Florida native and I know invertebrates but man oh man the staff there is absolutely nothing short of astonishing with their knowledge and happy to share. I got lots of photos and if you want to see lots of butterflies flying around I reccomend going towards closing time. They all fly around at high speed to find the best sleeping spots! Just watch your step and be gentle if they land on you!
Jimmy Newmoon
The multitude of insect and small fish exhibits beyond the butterflies were unexpected and pleasant. The live butterfly exhibit exceeded my already high expectations. Lots of fun and appropriate for our 1.5 and 3 year old, though there is plenty for much older kids. Fascinating insect exhibits. It was also fun to have the tarantula climb on my hands.
Elaine Harper
Great learning experience for adults and kids alike. We got a pass connected with the children’s museum for my son. The play area is good but it is difficult to see your child when they are up in the ‘tree house’ part. We enjoyed looking at the marine and bug exhibits as well as walking in the butterfly area.
Must Love Animals
It's okay, not much going on though. Its humid and super warm. I didn't like that personally. Lol I was expecting more colorful butterflies I guess. The gift shop was cool, AND SUPER EXPENSIVE. lol I'm happy it only cost $13 to enter.
Mackenzie (Kenzie)
Great experience at the butterfly pavilion! Even though the front desk gals were a bit rude, the rest of the visit was positive and ultimately a great experience
Suzanne Humphries
This was a fantastic and unique experience. The staff was super nice, all the creatures seemed happy and healthy, and the gift shop was adorable. I can't wait to visit it again!
Jesse Silver
This is a wonderful place to bring your family or relatives coming from out of town. The butterfly environment is only one section and is quite amazing. We especially like the aquatic sea life including the octopus and deep-sea isopods. They do daily / hourly book reading and performances which is also quite entertaining. They have a play area for toddlers and older children which is great to get some additional energy out. Gift shop is quite stocked and it feels good to support a great organization. Staff are super friendly and helpful as always.
Jennifer Wilkins
My granddaughter and I had such a wonderful time exploring and seeing all the beautiful flowers and butterflies!
Joshua Gowans
This place is awesome! We took our 4 year old here for a 3 day camp (2 hours each day). He loved it! We'd visited previously so we knew what to expect. There's really a ton to learn at this venue, more than perhaps the name implies. The butterflies are truly incredible, but so is the insect area. All around a fantastic place for kids and adults alike.
Simon Lawler
Wonderful place. A must visit with kids
Rita Pearson
This is a really cool place to take the whole family! Kids love it! There are fish and bugs to see and to learn about. It's fun, while educational at the same time. The gift shop is huge and has such a good selection.
The butterfly pavilion is wonderful! So many butterflies flying around. And....they like blue or purple so be sure to wear it. I had a huge butterfly land on my back and was there like 20 minutes! Great place to visit!
caroline macmaster
Could sit in there all day definitely worth the $12
Evans Winner (Thorne)
A lovely place to spend a couple of hours. You can hold Rosy the tarantula, look at lots in interesting insects, and walk among the butterflies. The butterfly enclosure itself is not large, but is densely packed with many species. It's a nice place to go on a cold day, as they keep it pretty warm in the pavilion-proper. There is a gift shop with mementos and toys, some quasi-educational, and a little play area for the very young to work out some energy -- the place is naturally somewhat geared toward kids. Our four-year-old loves the place, which is really probably all that needs to be said in a review.
Nicole Brown
This is a gorgeous place to go. It was recommended to me by some of my coworkers, and I'm so glad I had a chance to go while I was in Colorado. Its a great education center for several different types of insects, bees, spiders and of course butterflies. It's pretty cool to walk around the butterfly area. If you're pretty still one of the butterflies may land on you. Great place to go with kids.
Rei Rei
Great place for children. However, you run out of things to do rather quickly. You can hold Rosie the tarantula, pet some seastars (I was informed they no longer like them being called starfish), and see some pretty cool live bugs. Of course the butterflies are beautiful! I think it's a little small of a space though. Its quiet, educational, and a good experience overall. I believe they should think about farming butterflies to sell the chrysalis' for educational purposes too. Just a business thought.
Charles Dean
They hosted a great conference there that I attended. Great facility for an outdoor indoor mixed event. Got to go into the pavilion after and the butterfly's were awesome. Very cool facility they have.
Erica Wilkerson
Beautiful educational and fun!
Robert Finger
What a great place to learn, have fun, and enjoy nature all at the same time! The kids always enjoy visiting, almost as much as I do! The butterflies were extremely active, which made for tons of laughs and great pictures. Parking can be tough, usually stick to the overflow lot.
Alex Garbino
Very nice displays, also has a few small saltwater aquariums and touch tanks for sea stars, limpet, etc.
Nice gift store at exit and outdoor garden.
Christen Kishel
The butterflies were mesmerizing. Don't miss a chance to meet Rosie!!
Lauren Spare
This was a really fun place to go. I went with my boss and a coworker when we were looking to kill some time during a conference.
I enjoyed petting the different starfish and the horseshoe crab. It's way more than just butterflies! There's knowledgeable staff placed in the exhibits to answer your questions and tell you fun facts. I enjoy that kind of thing, but if you don't, it's easy to pass them by without being bothered.
There are quite a few different butterflies in the butterfly part. They are flying and playing and eating and it really feels quite wonderful. However, this is not the first butterfly exhibit that I've been to and I was a little disappointed to find out that you can't feed them (the other I have been to has vials of nectar you can hold in your hand) and they don't land on you (probably because you're not going to feed them). You will still see SO MANY butterflies, so don't let that disappoint you.
If I had my kids with me, I'm fairly certain they would have liked the small play place near the end of the tour. It's right next to the gift shop and convenient if you want to send your husband to watch the kids so you can shop without fear of tiny hands breaking stuff.
Moral of the story: I would go again. I enjoyed it as a grown woman, so I feel confident in recommending it to others.
Brittany Kelley
This place is filled with a bunch of cool bugs, some area creatures and beautiful butterflies. Know for there famous Rosie tarantula that kids and adults get a chance to hold if desired. The butterfly atrium is a fun area where butterflies and moths fly all around and if you're lucky and wearing something bright one might land on you. There is even a small area for children to run around in and an area where they will sometimes have story time. This is a great place to spend an hour or two at. It has received criticism for being so small but they are in the works of building a larger place at a different location.
Zomii Panda
Place is awesome kids will love it
Kat3221
I love it and there's was ton of beautiful butterflies. Next time I come to Colorado I wanna come back.
Brian Jackson
Cheap admission (cheaper if you go on the right day or look for a deal) and beautiful attractions. If you have to be told what is great about sitting in a warm tropical room full of butterflies on a cold winter day (but also good any day), then I don't know what to say. Please watch your kids though! These are delicate creatures that don't do well with unattended toddlers (and older kids that should know much better)
Kent Polkinghorne
Good for families, especially kids. Can see it all in 90 minutes.
David Ueno
My girlfriend and I came here for our three year anniversary and I must say it brings back memories from when I went there on field trips in school. It's very very family friendly, not complaint but almost too family friendly. The place was scrambled with kids running around and screaming but that's the type of fun place it is there. Highly recommended for families or really anyone looking for a fun experience.

Great fun for kids. Very educational and had many exhibits that we're done well.
Beverly Shelton
Had a great time and loved the relaxed atmosphere to see the butterflies in action.

Visited the Butterfly Pavilion with confidence because masks were required and hand sanitizer was readily available throughout the exhibits. Also, the limited capacity made it easier to see all of the critters and prevented any crowds around top attractions like the the “touch and see” jellyfish tank. Time limits were long enough to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. Play close attention to your ticket time, you have to arrive within 15min for your ticket reservations to be honored. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly at all of the exhibits. Staff members at the butterfly pavilion happily pointed out exotic butterflies from all over the world. All of the spider, fish and bees are displayed well enough for little ones to take a good look! We also enjoyed the beautifully maintained walking trails and gazebos after our visit. Shades picnic tables are available however, the Beestro is currently closed due to covid precautions. We brought our own lunch and enjoyed between the pavilion and trails. We will be back and recommend a visit while the weather is nice enough to enjoy the trails and fall colors!

Love the beautiful hot house plants and foliage. The diversity and assortment of butterflies is amazing and the multi colors of all the wings floating through the air are mesmerizing. And the live bug collection is both fun and scarey to view as well! I especially like letting the tarantula walk across the palm of my hand. Awesome place!
Mia Roldan
I love this place!! The staff was so nice and helpful and the butterfly exhibit was so cool! My boyfriend and I walked around a million times just looking at the butterflies. The staff here does a great job keeping up with the facility. They even have a student discount which is helpful. The only thing is when it is busy, the place is not very big so at times it felt very crowded.
Mari Tubbs
Well worth the money! Very cool sea life with Interactive set up that allows you to pet some of the starfish. The butterfly house is huge and full of lush plants. SO many butterfly, and the staff is very friendly!!!
Brian Alan
Easily a 5 star experience for families with young children. There's lots of hands on and interactive exhibits, the staff is patient and knowledgeable, and the cost is small for admission. You can easily see everything in a short amount of time, great for those youngsters with short attention spans, or you can go sit quietly in the butterfly room and enjoy watching the wildlife fluttering around you. One thing worth going for is when they release newly hatched butterflies. Not sure when they do that during the day, but I'm sure a quick phone call can answer that.
Savanna Parrent
I had a really great time with my bf here today! The outdoor area is awesome and if you're lucky you can get a few of the butterflies to land on you. I loved this honestly
Jessie Bailey
I like coming here on $5 days. On regular entry fee days it's just not quite worth it to me. That being said, the exhibits are cute; our favorites are the bees and the touch tank. The butterflies are quite enjoyable to me, but my four-year old loses interest pretty quick. The large playroom inside is buckets of fun. They have story time, sensory play and a slide, which is great.
John Sutton
I had a little "hitchhiker" at the Butterfly Pavilion today!
Joshua Thompson
If was really cool! The butterfly's fly all around you. One stayed on my wife the whole time we were in the butterfly enclosure, which she enjoyed very much.
Cathy Blackmore
We took twin 3-year-olds, and they loved it! All the exhibits were very kid-friendly and engaging and there were lots of hands-on exhibits and experiences as well, including the opportunity to hold a tarantula! It's wonderful for all ages, the staff members are helpful and fun, and the butterflies are amazing!
Scott Kaniewski
Lights were nice but naturally not a lot of butterfly activity. Small feel. Might have to give it another go at a different time of season
Morgan Davis
We took my two year old and six month old and they loved it. Grandma and grandpa came too! We have been to other butterfly exhibits and this one by far was the best. They had a lot of butterflies in the exhibit vs other places we have been only had a few. They have platforms for the bug and fish exhibits so the kids can get a good look. My two year old won't stop talking about how she got to hold Rosie the spider and touch a star fish. The staff were great and always smiling. One of the exhibits was Finding Nemo and had the same species of fish as the movie. It was really cute and they really do a good job engaging their visitors. Highly recommend!
Mark Chadwick
Just a great experience for the entire family. My wife loved the beauty of the butterflies and myself and the kiddo loved Rosie the tarantula and all the other creatures. It was a wonderful relaxing day we spent there.
Greg Sund
Found this facility by chance when we arrived early for meetings at the Westin. Really glad we decided to visit. Spending time in the butterfly habitat was amazing. It was also fun viewing the coral and live sea creature exhibits.
James Lindsey
Visiting the area to see some family and we went with their 2 young children. Had a great time. Would recommend it as a way to spend a few hours.
Tad Amore
What a great place! Butterflies spiders crabs and all kinds of crazy bugs to play with! Also you can have a kids birthday party there!
The staff is super friendly it's affordable to go do the place is clean it's a must-see

We went on the last day they offered the $5 admission so it was a little packed, but we still had a lot of fun! It was my families first time going, and it was beautiful! My son, husband and myself held Rosie the tarantula. It was pretty terrifying but a cool experience. Will definitely be going again next time we visit Colorado
Allen Meadors
Took my daughter here to see what the place was about. She had a great time looking at all of the different displays. I wish the butterfly housing was a bit larger but all in all we still had a good time. Will.most likely make a return trip when she gets older.
Sean Hendron
Very cool place especially for kids. So many neat little things to look at & a staff more than willing to talk all day about the critters there. The butterfly garden itself is a unique experience & most of my time was spent there with butterflies fluttering literally everywhere I looked.
Joel Schneider
Great for the younger kid crowd (0-6 maybe). My son loves it everytime. Butterflies are always active but the other exhibits are fairly inactive but still great to observe. Rosie the tarantula is always a big hit too. We bought a combo membership for the Pavilion and Children's Museum. Best $180 we ever spent. Made up the price within the first month.
Amber Fournier
So fun to take the kids and walk around the garden.
Tim Kennelly
Really fun for the grandkids. The kids enjoyed butterfly presentation in Atrium. Stayed a couple hours until everyone was tired. Good fun for the family. Worth the trip.
Travis Woodward
My daughter loved it! She held the tarantula and got to walk in a room full of butterflies... what's not to love?
Sam Davis
This was the second time going with a large group of kids and the staff were all so excited to see so many kids. They did a private teaching about bugs and find out it qualifies as zoo. The kids all had so much fun, they loved holding Rosy. Highly recommend this place. Lots of awesome butterflies.
Jared Gregory
Great place. Some really interesting invertebrate exhibits that I had never seen before at other similar places. Got to hold a tarantula too. And the butterfly atrium was really nice! Bring a good camera. Slow motion filming on butterflies turned out pretty good.
Carl D
A+. This is an excellent place for children to see many varieties of arthropods that they have on hand. That is not to mention all of the butterfly varieties. As a family we have enjoyed this place several times over the years. A great place for the whole family to visit. 5 stars!
Samantha Connelly
I got a membership as a gift and decided to try it out during spring break. I have never met a more pleasant staff, they were so friendly and nice. I had an extra person with me and a pass and they let me keep it "for a rainy day" because they were a little busier than normal. Everyone we encountered were so knowledgeable. Lady in the gift shop took time to interact with my kids and commented nice things from noticing my daughters interest in the character on her backpack to complimenting a sweater. Nice exhibits and the butterfly room is so beautiful and peaceful even full of people. We had such a good day and will definitely renew the membership when the time comes!!
Cynthia Schmidt
This was really fun place . my granddaughter likes the play areas. Of course butterflies and all. Do not wear your coat in as it its warm in the butterfly pavilion. Everyone is very friendly.
Ramon Hanna
Very much a fun experience. I've lived in CO most of my life and never got around to catching this place til now. Had a good time seeing all the butterflies and tarantulas they have for you to directly interact with. I probably wouldn't come back but definitely a nice one-time thing.
Joanna O
This is a really fun and educational place to go with kids. Their butterfly area is amazing but they also have bees, beetles, coral, crabs and more. Plus they have face/arm painting, and special activities like nature walks. I would recommend it for kids of just about any age, though it might be a bit small for teens unless they do a targeted program like a class or nature walk.
Kenzie Reynolds
Such an interesting place to go if you catch yourself bored in Denver. It's fairly inexpensive and it's fun for all ages. It was a great learning experience and I loved getting to see so many insects up close and personal. They have food and a nice little walking area behind the facility. Not exactly sure if it's something I'd go to twice but it was amazing the first time!
Krystal Schwartz
Very memorable experience! Check for release times. We enjoyed their last hour and a half open and there were very few other visitors which made our time there feel special. The gardens were misted before the release and it was something I would definitely love to do again. The price was also very reasonable for our family of 4.
Ashe Bear
We had SO much fun here!! My daughter and I got to hold Rosie the tarantula which was the highlight of our visit! And the butterfly room is amazing. There's so many gorgeous butterflies in there! Great place for families
Dina Jordan
Definitely not as big as we thought it would be. But it was still worth the $10 fee and to see the smile and excitement on our daughters face. You walk in and see maybe 8 small tanks with insects and the next room has maybe 6 small tanks of salt water creatures. Highlight is the Greenhouse of the butterflies. Not very big, but definitely saw a variety of butterflies.
Alexander Ortiona
This place scores high even if it were just a butterfly pavilion... but that's just a third of the place! There's a bug and arachnid zone, where you can have Rosie, a tarantula, safely walk/sit/walk across your hand. They explained why she's so safe and friendly, and as an engineer, I find their logic to be perfectly sound. By the way, this an all areas easily afford the space for people to roll double strollers and still have other visitors freely move around.
The butterfly pavilion is spot on. Temperature/moisture/etc controlled to afford a perfect and sometimes invasive experience. It's only invasive if you're a two-year-old and all of a sudden decide today butterflies landing on you is too scary. Fine every other, just not today...
There is also a sea life zone, to include the trickiest octopus we've seen, and a touch area (of course with the associated paper towels and hand sanitizer). There are many other displays, but these are our favorite.
Lastly, before the gift shop and affordable cafeteria, there's a huge area where you can cleanly play with worms in dirt... you'll see. Tons of birthday parties are held here, both indoor and outdoor facilities, and all the kids and parents come out so happy. It's just too far for us to plan a celebration there. Oh, and there's also an indoor playground and outdoor garden area where you can easily enjoy a 15 minute walkabout.
Value-wise, I can't really tell. We had a gargantuan discount because we are Children's Museum members, but we have easily paid off the amount of family membership for sure, and every visit has been wonderful.
Laura Guice
This is such a great place! Little kiddos will enjoy the butterfly room, seeing spiders, a bee hive, and some aquarium creatures. There's also an indoor play area and an outdoor nature trail. Big kids will enjoy holding cockroaches and tarantulas and the educational aspects of the exhibits and trail. They also offer great spring and summer break camps.
Cory Pavicich
My 5 and 7 year old had a great time. They spent almost an hour digging for mealworms in one room, and loved exploring the greenhouse and "finding" butterflies. I brought a stroller for the two year old, but never used it. The place isn't so big that you can't pick them up or walk with them between the three rooms and the greenhouse.
Shannon Craig
Such a neat experience. Great for kids and adults. Butterflies will land on you. There is so much more to see and learn. Hands on aquatic exibit, live bee pollination. There is food served here as well with a nice outdoor heated patio.
Whitney Lake
Great place for all ages. More than just butterflies. The first few exhibits were very educational with a variety of bugs and animals to see. I got to hold Rosie the tarantula. The butterly area is just amazing. So many butterflies all around.
Dan Wellisch
Very fun and educational place. Brought my whole family and everyone enjoyed it. My 5 year old had a great time, especially in the play room. I enjoyed the pavilion and the other exhibits.
Kate Greten
Such a great time! Staff is friendly and so knowledgeable. So many activities that have been well thought out for kids to truly enjoy! Really pulls you into the experience.
Jon Fluette
Great place to visit!
Skinny Winkler
I have been here about 6 times. I know my wife has been here SEVERAL times. Great place. Lots of information. When I was young, I was a very serious amateur entomologist. I think it would be cool to formulate a cool "game" where the kids could organize pictures of the different types of insects into their corresponding "orders".
Tony Walt
We wandered the butterfly room for a couple hours. My daughter loved finding and learning about butterflies. I got great photos of the butterflies as well. The underwater and insect areas were cool too. It was a neat experience having a tarantula walk across your hand.
Katharina
The Butterfly pavilion is an invertebrate zoo. They are doing a great job of opening safely. They require social distancing, masks, and groups of up to 20 people with 20-30 min at each exhibit. They also have a great gift shop. They could really use support right now. I recommend you book a timed slot to go!
Rachel Swearengin
Very beautiful butterfly exhibit
Crystal Duckhorn
This place is great for small children. Going beyond the butterfly greenhouse (if you will), there are many other various insect displays set up for kids to be able to get a good look. There's even an opportunity to hold a tarantula, as well as a play area to get the energy out.
Lynsey McLean
Butterfly Pavilion was a perfect choice for my six month old. He loved looking at all the different insects, and the all-day tickets allowed us to head home for nap time and come back to explore some more. We will definitely be returning.
