Reviews of Freak Alley Gallery
M
When my journey to downtown Boise started early Sunday morning over Memorial Day weekend, I had no idea where my day would lead. Had I guessed, it certainly wouldn’t have been able to dream up Freak Alley Gallery.
It was 7am, and I was the only vehicle on the freeway as I headed to get my Bowl of Soul at Java downtown. I chose that location because of its proximity to the Capitol and wanting to explore the grounds with Tank. If Google let iPhones upload video I would show you what a city looks like when everyone collectively decides to leave or stay in. It was as though I had the entire city to myself.
After getting some great pictures of Tank at the Capitol, security reminded me I was indeed not alone in the city and that I needed a leash for Tank, for which I obliged. This was also my cue to head out, so when I looked over and saw a building covered in painted flowers, I knew I needed a closer look.
Upon further inspection of the beautifully-done mural I turned to my left and spotted Freak Alley Gallery across the street.
I originally thought the first murals by the restaurants were the extent of it, because wow, but to my surprise, and true to the name, it is an entire alleyway dedicated to the artwork of locally-commissioned artists.
What an absolute treat to be able to spend a drizzly, chilly, morning walking through the minds of such talented individuals. I love places that allow you to go and feel, and Freak Alley Gallery does exactly that. Thank you to the artists and commission for making such a welcoming place.
If you are a fan of the arts, or need a spot to get some great photos, do yourself a favor and stop by Freak Alley Gallery in downtown Boise.

Amazing place! I love how the city allowed people to express thier art on an entire city block alley! All the artwork shown here is amazing and totally worth the visit so I highly recommend you visit this amazing place! Parking can definitely be a pain though so I suggest parking close to the Capital building and walking the few blocks to this amazing place filled with the beautiful works from local artists!

Freak Alley is a lovely excursion. We ended up going to it twice. Once in the early morning and then again in the evening when we were waiting for a table at Fork. The alley contains artwork from various artists. All of which are exceptionally talented. Th kids had a great time trying to interact with the artwork. Beware, it can get busy on a Saturday night. So, if you are looking to have space, get great photos without people walking through them, go earlier or on a weekday.

PARKING : Limited. You need to find parking in the nearby streets. Usually you have a 2 hour limit (you have to pay) and 20 min free.
》Freak Alley Gallery, the largest outdoor art gallery in the Northwest United States. The ever-changing space is known for its impressive street art that features local artists from Boise in Idaho. A VISIT TO DOWNTOWN BOISE is not complete without exploring the Freak Alley Gallery. In 2002, local artist Colby Akers painted the back alley doorway of Moon’s Cafe in downtown Boise, Idaho. When businesses next door saw his work, many were so impressed that they to wanted the artist to paint their buildings. So, it began Freak Alley.
Go check it out, take pictures and tag me and let me know which mural you like the most.《

Very cool place. I've driven past several times but never stopped before last night. Definitely going to go back and check out more of the artwork.
Claudia Lindsey
Excellent artwork, took my teenage Grandson who was in town visiting and he enjoyed exploring the alley and checking out the unique artistry! Highly recommend if you are open to various forms of art
DK
Fun alleyway with energetic murals across the walls. There are times where it appears to be less crowded if you are looking to take photos (around 3pm), but it can get quickly crowded.
Katy Strojny
This was an awesome place! Easy to access alley filled with unique and diverse artwork. It was truly fun to see and I highly recommend checking it out.
Sindu
I stopped at Boise on my cross country trip from Miami to seattle. I stopped at Boise to explore. It was my first time in Idaho.
This was a fun alley with great art, they have art featuring breaking bad as well. Definitely a gem of Boise. The art was gorgeous, must be done by some amazing talented people. I was so ecstatic to see the Breaking Boise artwork as I am a huge fan of Breaking Bad.
The alley was a little difficult to find though, at least for people new to the city.
The parking could be a bit of problem, there is some street parking but not easy to find a spot. There are some garages around, and that’s where I parked.
I highly recommend checking out this alley if you are in Boise.

#FreakAlley is soooooo #DOPE!!! More cities need to allow street artists "free spaces" to express their creativity, expressions, hopes, dreams and realities in meaningful street art, graffiti and whimsical drawings. I LOVE #ART! #Bosie is definitely on the pulse of something COOL!! Which is AWESOME!! I say, let the creatives EXPRESS THEMSELVES because we ALL BENEFIT..... It's definitely a must-see when visiting downtown Bosie!
Vance Wennerstrom
Really stunning artwork, so many styles, tones, and energies! If you like art you should really consider this activity in Boise, ID
lauren salas
Freak alley was a must on my list of places to visit during my stay. The artwork is really cool… and the alleyway is a lot bigger than what I was expecting. If you’re from out out town like I was … there are a lot of bars, restaurants and shops around the area so you can make a whole day out of it !
Lauren Brown Turner
They managed to turn a greasy alley and a parking lot into a tourist destination. I really like the variety of themes and styles. Some of the works are more professional than others, but that gives it personality. The art seems to be maintained, but you will navigate around some dumpsters if you want to see everything.
Aaron King
Very cool experience! Perfect weather to get out and see the different artistic skills showcased.
Nick V
Way cool place to visit if you're visiting Boise! Pics don't do justice... but I'll add some anyway! Awesome Instagram pic opportunities! Parking garage literally across the street! Don't miss it!
Sanchit Batra
Definitely worth a visit if you're close but I wouldn't go out of my way, only spent about 15 min here. One of those places I would've been just as happy looking at the pictures for
Zory Nichipor
This Alley had wonderful and moving art. If it’s something that you’re into, i highly recommend stopping by to check out this public gallery.
Kiara Belonzi (Kiki)
First time here. It is an awesome place to see wall art. All down one ally.
Aonika Russell
Great walk downtown and you get to see all of this incredible artwork. Some of these guys should go to Seattle and Portland and show the "Basic taggers" how artwork is really done. Impressive to see and something cool to do if you are in town.
GEM Meisenheimer
Went on a field trip with my architecture class in October. Incredible display of skill.
Chianti
Great time walking through to enjoy this amazing artwork!!
Ackk1618
Awesome! Wish cars couldn't park back here so we could get better pics!
Michael Davison
Really worth a trip to take in this artwork, not too freaky🤪 …
David Oliver
Amazing place! I love how the city allowed people to express thier art on an entire city block alley!
puppy neff
A great outdoor experience. If you are visiting, new in town, or a long time resident, its a must see. The art is amazing and thought provoking. And if you get hungry or need a beer there are plenty of local restaurants and shops to stop at right next door.
JESSICA THOMPSON
Awesome places. Really cool are work. I should of went in the evening would of got better pics. Went Arron's 10am and the sun was shining and I couldn't get as many pics as I wanted. But if your in Boise definitely check this place out
Charene Robinson
What a cool place to display local art. Many places are closed due to Covid and an outdoor gallery is perfect! We were visiting on a Sunday and there were not many people. Perfect.
The artwork is very cool. Love all the different subjects and styles. Some are brushed on, some air sprayed.
Christina Rodriguez
Very cool area of downtown Boise. This area in a great place for all types of people to visit. I enjoyed the variety of art styles.
Justin Floyd
Took my wife and kids here. The art is amazing! My favorites were the murals done with broken pieces of mirror. Good part of town. Safe and close to bars and restaurants. I didn’t see anything that wasn’t appropriate for kids. Great family destination in my opinion.
rick cusimano
Had been hearing of Freak Alley for several years and was finally able to visit this unique piece of downtown Boise. Great location for photographers, make sure you take your time because there is a lot to see all around the alley area.
Dan Roberts
Absolutely awesome. So rare to find an outdoor gallery full of contributions from so many talented artists. Beautiful, thought-provoking, evocative, and fun artwork in assorted styles. The art will sometimes build on existing pieces, but never paints over the other work. It was also pleasantly surprising to see that none of the art was tagged (vandalized). Definitely worth a look!
Amirah Busairi
Found this place by accident during our October 2020 roadtrip and were so glad we did! As a fellow artist, I appreciate the great contributions for these murals. Lots of talented people in this town!
Erich Meier
Amazing artistry! Some real talent went into these works of art! I would love to see the alley grow as this is truly a treasure which should be copied more cities across the country!
Sindy Rosproy
Fantastic display with a variety of artists. This Kansan loved every minute of it. I can only draw stick figures but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the message.
Adam Sattley
I was able to take some great pictures of this unexpected gem down an alley in downtown Boise. We visited this area during a foodie tour of restaurants. The alley features ever-changing murals by local artists. Some are very political and poignant. Don't miss out on this free, but colorful part of the Idaho experience.
Joaquin Teton
Pretty cool Alley. Lots of art work. It would take a few minuets to really get a good look at it all. We was here at night, very cool looking. The history behind Freak Alley Gallery is cool. We will definitely come back to see the new art work done.
Matt Wright
Amazing, outdoor public space where murals are painted by many muralists. Location is within several alleyways. The amount of wall in that location art is astounding. It reminds me of the RINO District in Denver, CO. Love seeing public art! Keep it up, Boise!
Katy Kithcart (Katy Kithcart Creative)
Freak Alley is a fun place to visit if you're from out of town or if you're looking for a fun place for portraits. This is an extremely popular place though, so you should be prepared to run into other people! I photographed a couples session there and you can really do some fun things with it! It's located right near some great restaurants too, if you wanted to make a date of it.
Jaquella Eckles
This alley was such a highlight on our trip. We walked through finding finding tons of gems. Definitely a place to stop when visiting!
Katie Bachman
Wow...if I didn't like anything else in town (I actually love this place haha) I would definitely be coming back at least for this alley. The artwork is phenomenal and so detailed! My friend brought me here and I was just blown away at how much art there was in just a small area! 12/10 would visit again
Noctan Nights
Very cool artwork has been done here, must pass through if you're in the area!
Pam Ha
A really enjoyable area. Had some lunch then walked Freak Alley for a nice leg stretch to break up our road trip.
Mike Dale
Way exceeded expectations. Some of the best public art I've ever seen, free or otherwise! There's always more Easter eggs to find here and some truly talented artists on display. Interactivity is a huge plus!
Misch
Awesome awesome place to see good mural art and street art! These pictures are old, so some of the art may have changed, but this is a must-see spot for anyone who loves urban art.
Brett W
If you’re visiting Boise, Freak Alley is a great place to take some unique photos. I shot some engagement pictures for friends, and this was one of our stops. The artwork in the alley is nicely curated and preserved. Especially toward the end of the day, the lighting in the alley is ideal for photos.
Alexandra Hightower
Very cool experience. You can view the murals at your own pace and explore the small details the artists put it.
Leah Nielson
A cool place. The murals are unique and fun to look at😊 …
Malcolm White
I grew up in an artists house

Pete Serra
I love Freak Alley! Such an awesome collection of amazing artwork mixed in with old, rustic buildings, emergency fire escapes and cracking red brick.
Liz D'Andrea
Great place to take a stroll and take on local artists work.
Skyler Cook
Freak Alley is a notable venue for public art in the form acent to a service alley in downtownBoise, Idaho. The largest outdoor gallery in the Northwest and a Boise institution since 2002, it began with a painting of a single alley doorway and now extends from the alley itself to a gravel parking lot. Extant murals painted over and replaced by new murals (or incorporated into them) every two years; collectively it is the work of more than 200 artists. It has featured prominently in a survey of ten mid-sized American cities with thriving artistic communities in which Boise ranked second.
Tanner Paladino
One of the best parts of my stop in Boise! So much art, and such quality and range of pieces!
Bryan Andersen
I had seen this place's reviews many months ago and made a mental note to visit when I had the chance. After a lunch at P.F. Chang's, I decided to fulfill my mental note.
Sadly, I was quite disappointed by the artwork in Freak Alley. Yes, I should have expected a significant influence from the drug and hard rock culture. However, I thought I would like at least some of the artwork. Well, there were 2, or maybe 3, paintings that I liked -- and one of those was a country scene on the east side of 8th Street, which is probably not even part of Freak Alley!
I walked the entire length of the alley, while hoping to see something worthy of attention; unfortunately, I continued to be disappointed by the overall experience.
Jon Frankel
Love Freak Alley! Such a cool addition to downtown Boise...if you have a chance be sure to walk through it's amazing 👏 …
Big Dad
Loved Freak Alley gallery cool place couldn't believe that in the middle of downtown Boise my 18 year old daughter loved it
Todd Benrud
Fun little walk between the bars and restaurants.
Jess
Awesome family experience if you want to appreciate art of all forms. Very Very cool! I appreciated this being free and people contributing to the alley. A must see!🔥 🔥 …
John Osborne
It is an alley so it is dirty, but the art ranges from serious to psychedelic and everything in between. It is much better than random junk on the walls. It does change from time to time so it is worth coming back to.
Ashlie Nelson
This is a fun activity for the entire family. It is very short though. It takes less than an hour to walk the length of the alley and see everything. Worth doing but plan to eat somewhere on 8th afterwards or hit Stella's for a treat.
Michael Shaffer
Beautiful artwork, creative and colorful. Watch out for cars!!! People drive like you are in their way - you probably will be if you are taking a photo or admiring the artwork...
Michael Davis
Freak Alley is always a great place to see the creative vibes of local artists....every time we visit Boise and eat at the restaurants on 8th street, we make a stroll through the alley....
Dakota Lester-Russell
Super neat place. It is just an alleyway, but man is there some absolute talent showcased. Its located super conveniently and is also a pretty neat place to snag pictures, unfortunately while we were strolling through, a freak hailstorm with light started and our visit was cut short.
Eric Willig
Studio and Album quality murals, graffiti, and public art lining a downtown Boise alley. Freak Alley is a must visit spot in a lively part of the city - for locals and visitors. Here you’ll see Jimi, Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., and many more bigger than life people, people who have impacted the lives of so very many, immortalized in spectacular color and style. There are also plenty of characters donning the walls who have only existed on the canvas, in literature, and/or this special alley.
Note: come often as I the alley lives (the art changes frequently).
Take a look and the pics we were fortunate to capture of the epic artwork ... which looks even better in person!

I love this place. I guess that the art is updated every year in August? It isn’t just the alley as there is a parking lot with huge pieces of art and a part behind some businesses that includes a trash compactor that is part of it. The artists are also known to use part of the environment as there is one piece that uses bars over a bricked in window to make a jail cell.
Family friendly but not to everyone’s taste. Some is graffiti-like but all of it shows talent.
Porter Ericsson
Awesome, and very creative artwork from local artists. Cool little walk for the family. Diverse styles, and imaginations.
Sylvia Barraza
Originally from Denver, CO went to Bosie to suprise my bother who happened to be in California. We decided to stay a few days and check out the Farmers Markert. While enjoying that we came across the Freak Alley Gallery. The Artwork, The Quotes, every single detail was amazing. I was so fascinated. I'm glad we decided to stay and check out the town.
DBClandimom
I love coming here! It's amazing!! Really cool. Go check it out if you haven't yet. And if you have been there before go back! The artists are always updating their murals.
Katie Vogt
So much fun to stroll through the alley and admire all the masterpieces!
Matthew Guernon
Very cool urban art gallery that spans on alley block.
Annie Harris
A must see site here in Boise! It is downtown and quite an interesting spot! A fun place for local artists to display their art on the side of the building.
Rafael Morataya
I love the expression and the passion in every painting from the artist(s) great idea for sure to create this space, poetry, and art is like the bread for everyone!
Ankit Patel
On 8th and 9th Streets and Bannock and Idaho Streets in downtown Boise there’s a service alley that has been turned into the largest outdoor gallery in the Northwest.
It all began in the early 2000s when a doorway was decorated, and by 2002 the alley had earned its colorful name.
Every available space is covered with eclectic and imaginative murals by more than 200 artists from Boise and beyond.
These works are covered with new paintings every two years so Freak Alley is in a constant state of flux.
Burns Bridges
One of my favorite stops Downtown, Freak Alley is an artists dream. The walls of a shabby alley have been transformed by a kaleidoscope of colors, turning a two-minute trot while looking over your shoulder into an hour of oohing and ahhing.
javen mondragon
Great little spot to just wander and take in all of the local artwork for free down the alley off of 8th street. Very impressed by the talent in this lovely Idahoan big/small town. Definitely a great place to just sight-see.
Sarah Pracna
Very cool! Loved the art, and being able to walk through easily!

The family and I really enjoyed this gem 💎 the art is beautiful, and every piece has it's own story. …
Karen DeMattio
I've been traveling to Boise (Boy-see) every year, from CT, for the past 25 years. I've watched Freak Alley come to life. I sometimes miss the old but find the new art refreshing. This is a must stop while in the city.

Interesting spot to see others views and slants on life. My favorite, not in art but the theme, was the sucking of any brain matter into the social media blackhole.

Nice little area. There's a lot of art with a lot to say. It's worth taking your time because a lot of it is hidden up high or around corners. Definitely worth bringing a carriers because some of it is outright gorgeous.

This place is the place if you have friends or family visiting out of town or who have never been outside much. This is a place to get fun photo taken! Note there are no bathrooms in this area and you have to find parking in the surrounding areas I order to get here. But once you do, you won’t be disappointed.
Cha'vette Ware
Not gonna lie this place is a little sketch, especially at 2AM but the art work is fabulous. If you go during the day it's located behind several bars, shops and restaurants.

Great place to visit if seeing fun pieces of wall art interests you. Varies styles and themes. Sort of like art graffiti but much more detailed.

The waiting room is sad. Chairs always taken. Work took twice as long as I was told. However, prices are good. The work was done well.
Sallie Moore
Colorful, but not that dramatic as other "street art" I've seen. But a safe place to view art like this.

Interesting depiction of the rampant nihilism and existential dread that infects our culture today. The artwork is skillfully done, but most of it is pretty depressing.

The best street art in the PNW! Grab a coffee from the nearby coffee shop and take a wonder through the street art.

This place is pretty cool if you enjoy art in general.
Chris Silva

I love ❤️ going here. It's just about a requirement for me. There's almost always something new to see.
N.A. P.
I liked seeing the art. Many vibrant colors. But there were tons of people taking selfies. I also thought that it would be a longer 'alley'. It would be really cool if there was speakers playing music or at least tables to just sit there and people watch.
Heather Gottschalk
Such a cool display of local street art. Enjoying the alley can take as short or long as you want it to. It’s definitely worth taking the time to see.

A little slice of the Real Boise
Local artists talents and great place for photography
sas.tronaut
Very fun! The art is cool and it's near a lot of fun shops and restaurants! Only drawback is we saw a man finish relieving his bowels between two cars parked in the alley 😅. Some of the art is very amateur but the majority is fun to look at and examine …
Ingrid Vandenboorn
Absolutely love the freak alley gallery. A must to see if you're in the area.

Simply, this place it great. I stumbled upon it and spent about a half hour to 45 minutes exploring all of the murals. Could have spent more time. It's a great place to do an eclectic photo shoot. Wonderful treasure in Boise.

udip ranjit
Always a treat. Can't wait for a new rotation of artists to create and add more to the Gallery! Hopefully the city will see the value in this type of open space gallery and pitch in to repair or provide more 'canvas' space!
Gloria Viola
Very interesting. The artists are very detailed and express that.
Ana Alvarez
Me nd my boyfriend William love to go play the tab machines here nd have a drink. On any day of the week it makes good on a little time away from it all.

A really neat open art gallery that runs an down an alley in the heart of downtown Boise.
Ameran Link
Freak Alley Gallery is a must-see on an after-dinner walk through Downtown Boise. When we have guests that we share a meal with in the area, I like to take them on a stroll through this great outdoor gallery! It isn't incredibly long so don't plan for too time-intensive of an activity. However, it is a brief walk full of beautiful, detailed art.
Erica Cotta
Great place to walk thru. Art was phenomenal. Thumbs up.

Beautiful stop, wonderful artists! Great culture

This is a very cool thing! Seeing local artists on the building sides down this alley was not interesting, but awesome. There were some very amazing contributions. Nice job to Boise for supporting this artistic expressive outlet.

Fun, touristy place to visit. It's incredible what some artists can do with just a spray paint.
Jen Grush-Dale
Such a cool place! So many different styles of art in one place. Free to everyone. It is entirely outdoors, so prepare if you plan to stay a while. A really fun experience is when you get to watch an artist as they create their newest addition!
Kimberle Leeds'Cardona (Kimber)
I love this place! There is so much awesomeness everywhere! I always love coming down to see all of the art work. There is so many stories and so much talent. Thank you to all of the artists.
Victoria Singleton
It was an experience like no other, I love raw and passionate art 🎨 it's so beautiful at Freak Alley and I can't wait to go back there! 🙂💜 …
Amelia Savoy
The food here is so good. The service was pretty amazing. I will definitely come back.
Elizabeth
The artworks here are beautiful and thought provoking. They are well maintained considering they are outside, open to the public and free. There are some dumpsters in the alley, one of which was particularly smelly the day we visited. Kudos to all the artists, building owners and organizers who make this display possible!
Autumn Stroupe
Love it when cities or university campuses have a dedicated spot for less traditional arts that are often described as graffiti. Wide variety of techniques and styles. Would definitely check it out each time I visit Boise.
Rickie Meeuwsen
Incredible art - that does change, so go back
Frances McFate
Amazing...go early so you don't run into crowds. Artwork is everywhere and very creative.

Gala Nikolaeva
Haven't been inside, but it is interesting outdoor.
Ben Bennett
This is truly a unique place to visit in Boise. Some really great art is painted on the sides of the brick buildings in this alley. It is a clean place to walk, and no worries it being uncomfortable. You can walk through the alley in about 1/2 hour if you just walk through and look at the various paint jobs on the walls.
Lathan Hartvigsen
This used to be a lot cooler: random people putting up graffiti art secretly. This has gotten a little more corporate support and it's now a really pretty at project. I wish there was still the edgier feel from yesterday.
Still cool, just not as cool as before. Like it, but don't love it anymore.
Azriel Hymn
Some friends walked us through the place and it was freakin dope. Lots of extremely talented artists filled the entire alley with art. I was only there for 20 minutes but could have spent a hour easy.
Ken Hoekema
What a great graffiti alley. We enjoyed the art and took lots of photos.
Tim m
A tourist area to take cool pics and enjoy art
Jeffrey Borquist
Very talented artists. Really cool oil painting style street art as well as a ton of smaller artists. Only downfall was the Crowd seemed pretty vanilla compared to its name...
Haley Fischer
Super cool! you get to see everyone's art and they change it out every year, but this year. I guess something to do with new members on city council wouldn't allow the artists to create new art. Totally a bummer but seeing the art that is there now was amazing!
Steve Sheller
It's neat, go see it!
Bill Christy Marketon
What a cool way to share the creative vibe in this city!
Dawn Lambert
Freak Alley is a very cool place to check out. Idaho has some very talented artists that don't get to see how brilliant they really are. It's a great way for them to express their talent for the world to see. I am always amazed every ti.e I go down there.
Nicole Morris
Wow!!! Incredible artwork! So much detail!
Eric R
What an incredible find!
Nate Hinchberger
Such a great way to give local artist some much needed exposure...tons of food choices right around the corner, art, food and a beer ain't a bad way to spend a day, so chill! Boise nailed it with this one

Jerrie Reid Ballard
Great paintings on walls of buildings. Love the creativity. And great expression of the people that did the paintings. Neat place to visit.
Jaclynn Todd
Very cool area. I went just a week or two after the murals were redone this summer. I loved seeing all of the different pieces. My favorite of this round of murals is the bottle draining negative emotions and filling with positive emotions. PERFECT
Greg Dennler
As GOOD as it GETS!
WOW! A local treasure. Seriously! What is Freak Alley Gallery? Its an Alley (obviously) where the walls of buildings are painted by local artists. The paintings change over time.
This is a go-to place for any family or friends visiting. Like I said above-- a local treasure, and I like to show off my treasures. It's nice to get a bite to eat at many of the nearby restaurants, maybe a cocktail or two (or 17) and walk down the Alley and look at the local flavor.
I have three teens and my kids love coming downtown looking at the art.
Please, please, please visit the Alley if you're here in Boise and have never seen it. Seriously it's breathtaking and to me, what is life without breathless moments?
Kayla Ann Gallup
Again, I Love Idaho! This gallery is amazing! We were looking for things we could do outside, because we had our dog with us. It's a must see if you're ever in Boise!
GiGi Huntley
Public art makes a city vibrant. We're lucky to have places like Freak Alley in Boise.
Cody Eldridge
Very very cool art gallery in downtown Boise. The murals are really awesome and you could spend hours just looking at them and appreciating the finer details of them. My favorite was the Martin Luther King made out of broken mirrors. Really cool to see. Especially nice to walk off the calories after eating out at some of the great restaurants nearby.
Tony
Super pretty outdoor art gallery! A wide variety of art designs and styles.
Katelyn Wamsley
If you enjoy the sweet musings of trendy food joints & shops then you'll love The Alley. Plan on paying for parking cheap but wear good shoes to walk to the alley. Amazing artists and it's beautiful how all the art blends together so perfectly. A MUST if you're in Boise!!!
Sharon Harms
So great! Everyone should stop and see this.
Dana Jensen
This place was so cool! We enjoyed walking around seeing all of the creative, colorful artwork. In a fun area downtown. Great shops and restaurants in the area.
Theresa McCoy
Fun place to walk through and take cool photos.
Laurinda O'Dell
Some very interesting art upon the walls of the buildings by various artists. Some old, some new; I took pics of a few. Some outlandish, some outrageous; others really quite contagious. Just can't turn back, most keep on going. Boise's artists' one-block showing.😍 A must-see when you're down (or up or over) this way). …
Josh
This seems to be the bar scene in Bosie. We came for the street art. It was worth seeing but we were only here for 15 min or so.
Sarah Mita
When it doesn't smell like pee (don't go Sat or Sun morning) it's really nice.
Courtney Marshall
Such a cool place. Great street Art. Worth the visit when in Boise, Idaho.
Roger Philipps
Cool and provoking art in the context of a downtown alley. A clean alley.

Freak Alley Gallery is the northwest's largest open-air, multi-artist mural gallery, located in a service alley between 8th and 9th street in downtown Boise. It started in 2002 when local artist Colby Akers painted the back alley doorway of Moon’s Cafe in downtown Boise, Idaho. Now every summer the murals are painted over and also new paintings are added by more than 200 artists.
I went there last when I was in Boise. I used to go there and enjoy the murals and try to understand the hidden meaning of the murals. If you are visiting, I would highly recommend this place to visit.
Robert Shapiro
Incredible art by local artists adorn the old brick walls and really liven the place up !! It's really terrific that the city allows such talented artists to display their work ! More city's nationwide should take notice of this and implement something similar !! Lots of folks including tourists were wandering through the valley's totally in awe !! Lots of fun if you get the chance to go !! 👍
Gary Zimmerman (gdz)
Fun place to see local artists on display in an alley. Many restaurants nearby so it is a good stroll through before or after a meal. I would like to see some of the art be refreshed a bit more often, and the city's attempt to pretty it up and make it more mainstream takes away a bit from its original authenticity.
Richard M.
Great art to walk through! If you're in boise stop through there.
Janis Duckett
Loved this unique piece of Boise!
Christopher Mettie
I am always astounded when I walk through. Seems as though there is a new interpretive piece every other week and I thoroughly enjoy what creativity people possess. This place brings up my hopes and dreams.
Jocel
Boise, overall, is a very clean city, our community is amazing, but to keep an alley clean, that is surrounded by bars and restaurants, you have locals and out of towners visit all day and (on weekends) all night, and for there not to be even a straw or gum wrapper lying around, blows my mind. I love how the art gets updated every so often.
Jen Jen
Cool art in downtown Boise. A lot of talent in the art.
Jacee Lyn
I love freak alley! There is always tasteful art spray painted by local artists on all the walls in the ally. I enjoy taking my kids down there to take awesome yearly photos using the art as a backdrop. I'm glad Boise has given a designated area to the local artist to paint so that we can all enjoy it.
T On Things
Something nice and different. Truly a freak (in a positive connotation)
Emilee Demaray
I love this place so much.
Jocelyn Smith
One of my favorite places in my hometown!
Amanda Lujan
Awesome artwork. Clean area. Very inviting.
Jose RV
This place will definitely be a tourist destination one day and it probably already is. Once you’ve been there you can’t really go back expecting new art until their artists come back and repaint their murals but that’s after a brand new painting is up that it will change, glad they fixed the place up it used to stink so bad.
Dana O'Connor
Freak Alley Gallery is a defining part of the downtown Boise experience. On its own so unique, artistry to the tenth power that takes you on a strolling journey through the eyes of the artists who have left their mark and told their stories. It's locale is brilliant as well, adjacent to 8th Street restaurants and shops. Freak Alley is an important contribution to downtown's ambiance and visually screams out the importance of free thinking and outspokenness for all .
Eddie Garcia
Gotta love that artists have a place to express themselves anywhere. Boise does a great job of providing a lot of space for artists to do just that. Keep doing what you do. Favorite is the MLK piece. It's a clean walk and very accessible.
IchirouTheDemon
This place has such wonderful, creative pieces of art! You could ride your bike or walk through the alley and see how gorgeous the alley looks. Even during the night it's a great place to stroll through

steph lake
Such a great place to check out every time you're nearby, they change the art every year I think and it's amazing. I took my boyfriend there on his first day in town, he loves it!
Christine Tatom
This is a must see in Boise. It brings life to the boring town when there’s not much to do. It’s right next to a street of awesome places to eat. The alley is the length of a block. Cars and such can use the alley.
Jonathan Fryer
This is a must see!! So very inspiring!

The are several good photoshoot opportunities both by yourself and with friends! Make sure and tag your photos to the artist on Facebook and Instagram!
Nancy Sepulveda
Love to see the talented art whenever I come visit Boise
クーパークリス
This place is one of the most impressive street art installments I've seen. Seattle has plenty of murals and street art, but nothing like this all in one place. The guy who coordinates this, Colby, gathers artists of all types, from students to professionals to add to the walls here every summer. It has evolved and grown over the years and it's great to see such a large area of living outdoor art downtown like this. The specific alley here also has some great sun exposure so you can really appreciate the art in full sunlight while still finding artistic juxtaposition in the shadows.
Kyle Az
Great amount of talent and culture in the downtown area. The owner or curator is a solid guy and you def should chat with him a bit if possible. It's a legal alley wall but you need PERMISSION to paint it. All I had to do was ask and was given a legal painter pass. To make this short have fun and be respectful and go have a look.
Lawrence Q Hu
Awesome place in Boise where they let artists showcase their work. These get replaced every once in a while, so make sure to come back and check it out again and again.
Ryan Taylor
Freak alley is fun to walk through. It's especially fun during farmers market if you want to see an eclectic mix of goods and food sold by a variety of street vendors. Definitely fun for a Saturday morning stroll with the family.

Bryon McDonald
Incredible public art display. There are so many styles of art, anyone can find something they love!
Kent Smith
Freak Alley is a very unique place in Boise. there is some amazing artwork painted on all the walls of the buildings in the alley. It’s a very eclectic collection of art that will amaze anyone walking through. The ally driveway was recently paved with brick and concrete. A definite must see.
Andrew Trout
The creativity and imagination displayed by the artists must be seen in person. Definitely a must see spot for everyone! And if you like the art, check out the signatures on the pieces. A lot of the artists have their Instagram tag so you can see more of their work!
Barbara Obrowski
Such a cool scenery
Sheila Latta
A fun, funky place to see some great street art.
Dinesh Chitlangia
Amazing art work, bold messages, vibrant colors. If you are in Boise this must not be missed as it doesn't take much time and is conveniently located in downtown. Also, viewing is free.
Rachelle Hesseltine
Coolest unique alley I've ever seen 😉 …
Donald Cooper
I'd hoped to be in DC for the 50th Anniversary of 1963's March on Washington but couldn't get enough time off. I instead used a three-day weekend to visit one more state-- ID. (#35 of 50 for me,)
I had no itinerary and next to no expectations, basically wandered around downtown Boise.
And in an alley I found a mural inspired by Dr. King's I Have Dream speech! (Pictured) Mission unconsciously accomplished....
Tiffany Moore
Absolutely worth the stop and walk through. Very impressive artwork done by incredibly talented artists! I can’t imagine spray paint is the easiest medium to work with but, you would never know that by looking at the art.
Jesse Walker
Neat experience. Worth walking through to see the art.
Amy Thompson
Neat artsy alley....but next time will go during daylight hours. ;)
Joe Reeser
It was awesome. A must see
Ashley Kamren
Cool to walk through if you're already in the area, but not worth a special trip as it is very short and many cars are parked there making it harder to see the art work.
ALZ Z
The art changes once every month or so. Some has symbolic meaning, others are creative expression. It's so amazing to see the different types of creations people have to offer.
Shonelle Dutcher
Had pictures taken of my grandson and his Great Dane Dash.
Katherine of Winrich Photograpy was wonderful with both. Can't wait to see the pictures.
Fermin Sierra
Very cool, ever changing and a brilliant inclusion to the city of Boise. The art was amazing, there's several installments that use broken mirrors to accent. Awesome.
Martin Butler
I couldn't help but smile and gawp at the wonderful and poignant artworks sprawled all over this excellent alleyway. Rain or shine, take the time to swing by and check it out. Watch out for cars (it's still a road, albeit not busy) and check out the Instagram tags of the creators of your favorite pieces.
diane barone
love to see all the pictures they painted on the walls
Gary Canary
It was the first time that I had walked the alley and looked at your graffiti artwork. Everyone that contributed to it did awesome. I would highly recommend visitors to the Boise area Walk The Freak Alley Gallery.

If you enjoy looking at great art while wondering if you're going to get mugged as you meander through dark garages and back alleys, visit this place immediately. Thankfully it's in Boise so your chances of being shanked are fairly slim.
azjuly25
Freaky and interesting murals. Truly worth seeing. Boise is the spot for anything from mural arts to indy coffee shops!
Holly Asmussen
Love going to see the art! Unfortunately caught a drunk young man scribbling god knows what on one of the murals. Besides that, had a great time viewing the new artwork and look forward to going again with my wife!

It's a unique method of displaying artists' work where everyone walking past can see all the artwork from local artists. It makes the "alley" a very colorful place to walk.

This place just proves what great support Boise has for its outstanding artists. If you’re in town you should absolutely check it out, as well as the wonderful downtown that surrounds it.

Very cool place. Love how they don't charge for it. How it's conveniently DT by all the restaurants and entertainment. Love how every 3 to 6 months they change the art.
Julie Shepard
Love the support from the Boise Art Commission. But it looks like some of the murals need refreshing.

Awesome place to visit and take some pictures. I love that they paint it over and redo all the art so it's always changing and new.

An absolutely amazing place to go if you want to look at some unknown artist's work, it's all extremely beautiful, some more meaningful and deep than others but every single piece is enjoyable

Seeing all of the art was like going to 5pointz. The artists are so talented and there’s plenty of places to eat around. Definitely worth the trip

Fun place to walk through after a good meal.

Adjacent to Even Stevens sandwich shop, Freak Alley serves as a vivid, lush portal to overlapping shroom-filled faerielands, rock god and pop culture icons, tributes to stark, dark, amusing dream land-seascapes, lovingly rendered by turns primitive, crude, approaching photorealism, comic-style, whimsical perplexity, beauty, and some now-expected cliches. The brick walls here boast a paean to urban modishness!! The scenes change on a regular basis, I understand. Take your time here, as if you were in an art museum or art gallery, if you are a highly visually-stimulated person and if you enjoy a slinky departure from the hum-drum. This little Boisean treasure in the softly-pulsating heart of the Treasure Valley would probably not be relished by ultra-conservative people or by those whose artistic or other sensibilities are easily offended.

A really nice place to go before or after a meal, and as long you have a mask, it’s safe to go and perfect since there’s diners and stores near.
