Reviews of Brookside Gardens
Madhu Kalepu
This garden is nature lovers paradise. Shady relaxing areas, beautiful tulips, nature kissed walking trails are very few worth mentioning. Family can spend 2-3 hours. Our must visit once/twice a year. We prefer visiting first/second week of April to get beautiful glance of Tulips 🌷 …

Very beautiful and well kept gardens. No trash cans though, and finding people for help can be very hard. Most areas are wheelchair accessible on the main path, but if you are trying to get to certain areas like the Japanese Tea House can be very difficult.
Mdree Photography
Such a beautiful garden and a great option for your wedding venue/portrait location! I've shot a bunch of times at this location and there's so many beautiful spots all throughout. It's also a nice place to go out for a walk and enjoy nature!
Carm Mom
Beautiful walk through the elaborately lit gardens with an abundance of flamingos that tickled me. Going on a week night there were many little kids, one belting out “do you want to build a snowman” along with some lights that moved with the song garnering applause. But with many paths if you want your own space and pictures it’s very doable, except around the giraffe with smoke filled bubbles.
The trains aren’t up this year to the chagrin of many a middle aged man that night.

The gardens are absolutely beautiful and well maintained. There is no entrance fee.
A playground, mini train ride, carousel, and an outdoor exercise area are all within walking distance to the gardens. The visitor center has free maps and a craft shop. There is a fee for the Christmas lights, which are very detailed and entertaining.
Lenny Campello
This is one of the great jewels of not only Montgomery County, but also of the Greater Washington DC region. It is absolutely beautiful from all perspectives! A nice walk through in the summer, and a spectacular walking tour during the annual festival of lights! A local hobby train railroaders chapter also usually has an amazing hobby train set up in one of the buildings. The Anderson Pavillion, on one of many water lakes is also a great location for families to gather. There are also event rooms which can be rented and a rotating art show curated by the Garden's own curator.
Forest Rothchild
We went for the festival of lights walking tour. The hidden surprises were wonderful. The staggered timing to allow for parking and not an overflow of people made it very accommodating. It is safe and fun for all ages, allowing your inner child to enjoy the wonder of it all.

Beautiful place. Came here with a meet up group and thoroughly enjoyed it. Something I will definitely bring my children to at a later day. I’m so curious to see how it lights up. And it’s not too far from home.
Connie Massaro
Beautiful mature gardens. A delight to walk all the paths through the park. Any season is lovely here. Last visit was on 9/16/22. Came in through the gate from Wheaton Regional Park. The grounds are so beautifully manicured. Still many flowers blooming. Free entry and lots of parking. There was a painting exhibit in the visitors center that was very nice. The staff was preparing the garden for their Winter light show. That’s next on my list.
Joel Seppala
A peaceful stroll at just the right price (free!). The outdoor settings provide beautiful framing and context for the flowers and other plants and greenery. Friendly and helpful staff accent the experience.
Adrienne
My first time visiting Brookside and it was AMAZING! A great place to walk around in the fresh air! Lots a beautiful flowers to see. Definitely going back once the butterfly sanctuary is open.
Sonya Williams (Wildflowers and Hooyahs)
Walked four miles here and enjoyed every minute of it. Went mid-day and it was wonderful. Not many people and one of the nicest parks I’ve found in this area. I will return soon for a picnic with my family.
Won Gu Kwak
Well maintained park open to the public. Free to enter, ample parking space during non rush hours. Beautiful tulips and trees, plenty of seating and photo spots throughout the park
Gabriela Hart
Amazing, wonderful place to go for walks and take photos. A lot of blooming flowers during September.
No charge to get in but feel free to donate.
Carol Frezza
Obviously a gorgeous location but in addition to that we had our spring wedding here and it was genuinely a dream come true. We chose the Japanese tea house looking out over the water and we had so many people tell us it was the most beautiful wedding they’d ever been to. Also Jennifer with the events team was incredible - communicative, kind, and super helpful. They provided chairs for the ceremony, put up signs pointing our guests in the right direction, offered a golf cart for any guests that may need help getting there and made getting our contract/permits a breeze! Can’t recommend enough!
Kathy W
Beautiful park even in late November. Breathtaking green house with gorgeous plants and flowers. Several ponds with gazebos overlooking the geese. Holiday lights are up throughout the park. Easy parking. Highly recommended.
Nicole Belcastro-Shaver
We absolutely loved the brookside garden lights! They were so beautiful with lots of variety in color and I loved the flower lights! They had some fun things for kids to play on like a boat, house, wooden tractor, etc. It also felt very safe and enclosed even in the wide spaces where I felt comfortable letting my son run around. We will definitely go back again!
Hilrianna Chooran
Absolutely Gorgeous!!! Free Parking, Free Admission. Perfect place to bring a blanket to sit and read, sit and paint or simply just to enjoy nature.
Sunshine Ish
Been wanting to go to Brookside Gardens for awhile and I wasn't disappointed, beautiful park and gardens. Spent about 2 hours there. If you don't like walking around a lot then this isn't the place for you since there is long winding paths and not a ton of benches. However every bench is placed where there is a great view waiting for you ahead. Great wildlife as well, my bf and I seen lots of butterflies, birds and even chipmunks! Looking forward to our next trip there 💕
Rick Coxson
Had no idea what to expect.....unbelievable. The care and variety of plants was awesome. This is the kind of Botanical gardens you would expect an entry fee. Go if you can.
Nicole VanKampen
Lovely gardens to peruse at your leisure with your loved ones, or alone.
Great place to enjoy the splendors that gardening can bring.
Lovely plants and places to sit.
Greenhouse to visit too.
I loved the butterfly garden!

The Brookside Gardens are public gardens located within Wheaton Regional Park, at 1800 Glenallan Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. No entrance fee is required. It's a botanical gardens with very big area containing many interesting features. Interested persons will enjoy to visit the gardens if they spend much time at the gardens. So they are requested to visit this gardens with much time in hand.
Spumante Merrick
I love this place. I see something different every time. This is the first time that I've visited Brookside in the autumn. The weather's lovely and even though the leaves are dropping, it's wonderful.
Nicalena Neary
Beautiful Brookside Gardens is open for Winter Lights. Tickets are needed.. Many wonderful displays including flowers, animals, Fairy Garden etc. are presented. You can take a leisurely walk among the displays. Worth a visit.
DC Explorer
A very nice place to explore. I've been here in the summer months and in the winter for the lights. If you are going for the lights in winter 2021, advance, timed tickets are required. An adult ticket is $10. As you enter in your car, the person directing traffic will stop you to make sure you have tickets. You then proceed to a booth where someone will scan your tickets (printed or on your phone). Parking can be tight in the parking lot at busy times. Handicap spots are available. You then proceed to the visitor's center and can go around it or through it (with a mask) to get to the lights. The loop takes maybe 30 minutes to walk. People with walkers and mobility issues can use ramps instead of steps in most places and there is an uphill section. Bathrooms are in the visitor's center (bring a mask). A food truck was selling hot dogs and a few other things.
Connie L
This is a beautiful garden. Free of admission and parking. So many beautiful flowers to see. Summer time will have butterfly exhibit as well. So much to do and kids will love it too.
Lizandro Gonzalez
4 One of the most beautiful parks in the area. Brookside Gardens takes your breath away from the moment you step out of the visiting entrance center. There's a DC shooting memorial and an ample space for putting a blanket on the grass and enjoying the sun on a sunny day. We enjoyed our lovely stroll across multiple gardens.
Liang Huang
How could one not like Brookside Gardens. I don’t remember how many times we visited here: in Spring, in Summer, in Fall, in Winter. The gardens and the greenhouse is absolutely beautiful. The only complaint might be during weekends parking is hard to find. But come early or just park on nearby streets and do a small walk. Enjoy!
Elizabeth Rosenberg
So beautiful! A great place for people of all ages. They have accessible paths and beautiful little "garden rooms" to explore. I can't wait to go back soon and often!
Jared Mousteiko
Great space to walk around, listen to nature (or the person who uses speakerphone... Really?), and view some amazing gardens.
Joe
Amazing holiday lights display! This was the best stop I made while in the area for Thanksgiving. Make sure to purchase tickets ahead of time on the official website.
Laura Inglis
Free admission although donations are welcome. Easy to walk paved paths with lots of beautiful flowers and a butterfly garden. Wheelchair friendly.
You can also rent out a gazebo for weddings. Two parking lots although they probably fill up fast at times so if you plan on going get there early. There is also plenty of open lawn space, bring a blanket and relax for a while. There are also lots of benches throughout the area.
Deborah Montgomery
We really enjoy walking around Brookside Gardens. There is such a beautiful variety of trees and flowers. It's gorgeous any time of year, but our favorite is the rose garden when it is in bloom. There are many shady spots and benches along the path, and a few gazebos. There is one gazebo over the water that has a great view of geese and turtles.
Updated: We just visited again in April, when the tulips were blooming. It was beautiful, well worth visiting this season as well.
Edit: June 2022, at this point, everything seems back to normal after Covid as well.
Leah Ellison
The Garden of Lights was an incredible experience! I felt fully immersed in a fantasy land and barely recognized the gardens compared to daylight.
Gabriel Lee
A great spot to enjoy the fall weather. Nice variety of different exhibits to observe and take in the ambiance. Will come back in the spring time!
beyondTabu
We weren’t expecting much as we’ve been to a couple other Christmas villages and they were a total let down…. cough Tinsel cough….
Good news is this is amazingly done, well laid out and to be fair even without a Christmas village, its a really nice garden!
The food truck inside was pretty tasty which was nice as well.
Def recommend this as a go too for kids and adults alike!!
Susan Beram
This place is lovely. Have been going for years. The flowers and paths make for a lovely walk.
T. Woolard
Huge outdoor gardens. Will go again. Had several garden themes: azalea garden, camellia garden, aquatic garden, kids garden, rose garden and more. Have plenty of benches to rest and relax. Lots of water features throughout to add ambience. They do host private events. There was a wedding when I was there. There is also a nature center and a visitors center with a gift shop. Decent parking available and bathrooms!!! Yay for bathrooms! Highly recommend and like I said will go again when different things are in bloom.
Rhodi Lopez
Beautiful scenery. Inviting place to enjoy nature and relax! Great place for a Sabbath afternoon walk!
Carla Ferguson (Your Bon Viveur)
This was a gorgeous place, truly a hidden treasure. This is a wonderful place to gather, spend time with family and/or a significant other. Great for a date night or a photo shoot of any sort planned or impromptu. This is also a great place to get many steps in as you can walk miles without even realizing it.
Julianne Frahm
Really lovely place, highly recommend exploring! My (5 y/o) sister loved it a lot (as shown by dancing in front of the flamingo)
Ed Buch
♿ friendly. Choice of longer serene walkways around the perimeter or interior pathways laid out amidst rose gardens, butterfly gardens and other floral beds. Lots of blooms even in late summer. Really appreciated the availability of free loaner wheelchairs.
Penney Baile
More early spring bloomers than expected. The hellebores and witch hazel were gorgeous. Grounds well kept. Lovely walk.
Krishna kosi
Wonder light Show… temperatures are good this week. Definitely worth for to walk and enjoy the lights for 2 hours.
C Rowley
A great way to spend an afternoon. This free park offers so many beautiful picture taking opportunities and botanical scouting. Many places to stop and rest as well as art installation pieces throughout. The maps are kinda hidden so it becomes more of a "what's around this corner?" experience, but it's nice nonetheless. No picnicking is allowed, which is slightly disappointing, but you can still bring in water (don't litter though!).
Allison Shafer
Beautiful winter display! The lights were some of the best I have seen. A few things made our experience a little difficult. We were meeting family there, but I had everyone's tickets. The other members couldn't even park without tickets, so we had to pull over to exchange tickets before we could get to the parking lot. Then when we got in it was dark and it wasn't clear what path to take. Everyone was going in multiple directions, and it was hard for my young kids to enjoy the lights while keeping up with the pace. This experience is probably best for older kids.
Олечка S-ковч
Beautiful place to visit, super relaxing and great place for photography and photoshoots
The wild life is also quite beautiful ❤️
Reema Srivastava
Free parking , clean trails and my favorite is the Japanese style garden with a water body, stones, bridges & torii. The spacious grounds provide a stunning backdrop. Enjoy the spectrum of colors in the rose garden.
Raju Jbs
I think this year we are late to visit for tulips. We visited on 04/16 but most of the tulips and other flowers are gone. There are still quite a few but compared when we visited couple of years back we felt it is less this time
Alan Staiman
Beautiful garden with a very nice walking path around it. I came there to do the adventure lab and geocache
Jessica Sun
The Garden of Lights event was so pretty! It wasn’t overly crowded and I definitely felt the holiday cheer!
Harleen Sahni
Great place for young kids. It's immensely more walkable than the National Arboretum. There's plenty see and you can spend just an hour there and have it be enjoyable or much more time if you have it.
Jeffrey Hollabaugh
Great place to take a great walk. Lot's in bloom. Go in the morning, still cool and shady. Grandchild did great!
Jason Jones
What a beautiful place. Went here for a photoshoot and there were lots of scenes. You do need a permit for your photographer when doing sessions.
Pr Katz
Came for the Garden of Lights. It did not disappoint! Each area of the display was well planned, each one different in its own unique and beautiful way. A gazebo and the stepped path to it were decorated in ice white lights and it was magical. Another area was bathed in pink and purple lights, the winterized ponds decorated in blue light, with multi-colored flowers, a beehive in a tree, and dragonflies swooping through the branches. There were butterflies, romantically lit covered paths, and rivers of blue through the woods. The kids seemed to love it.
Jill W
Beautiful place to walk through. Can't wait for the full blooms of spring.
Felix Mercado
A calming garden to visit that is family friendly. Be sure to bring sun protection when visiting the area of the reflection pool and the Japanese Tea garden as shade is sparse in that section of the garden.
With several interactive children gardens and wide spaces for them to explore and run in, your kids will be filled with joy.
Stevie Writes
Had no idea the DC sniper memorial was here. The pink flamingos and Japanese pagoda are a nice touch. Lovely place for a stroll in rain or shine. Lots of parking.
Sammy Lou
This place is very beautiful! You can admire many colorful flowers that are in bloom, and enjoy peaceful walks along the trails, especially near the Reflection Terrace and Japanese Tea House.
Min Zhang
The best and the most beautiful garden/park in the DMV area on any day in any season
MJ Canizales
Magnificent gardens, picturesque landscapes. Exquisite in the summer, breathtaking in the fall!
Winter lights were beautiful!
Roderick Montgomery
Brookside Gardens is beautiful! Was my first time there today. Lots of open space, with great places for pictures. There is also a lovely rose section that is in full bloom now. I wholly recommend, with all of the space there is no need to worry about running into others. There is; however, no bathroom access at this time.
Update: Bathrooms are available and another good time to visit. No roses this time but the tulips were in full bloom!
Update: visited last night to see the "Light Garden". It was definitely worth it. The night was cold but clear and there was a fair sized crowd but since it is outside it wasn't bad. The crew did an amazing job setting up the lights, which included all kinds of elements, from trees wrapped in lights, to lights in the shape of flowers and animals and even (for the kids) a bubble AND a snow machine! Ok so the last one was cool to the adults too.
You do have to purchase tickets early for the lights display so plan ahead. The tickets are limited each evening but we found an option that worked fairly quickly. Definitely recommend checking it out!
Just a few shots and my camera was being special so they did not come out great.
Craig “Food Monk” Carter
Amazing discovery of outdoor botanical gardens, trails, and nature educational centers.
National Dalila Society event was breathtakingly beautiful. Several wedding parties were taking photographs.
Allen Walden
A favorite place of mine that I frequent when the weather is warm. Beautiful, serene, and well curated. Really gives you a breath of fresh air in both literal and figurative senses.
I also go every year for the Garden of Lights. And although it's a small Christmas lights setup compared to some others in the DMV, it has a lot of heart and they do a great job, adding a little something every year! Well worth a visit and a ticket any time of the year!
Jessica Farrell
Beautiful place for a stroll and great photos. Free entry! Hidden gem in Wheaton/Glenmont
Tin Nguyen
What a beautiful place. Words or pictures won’t do justice. Thank you for making it available to the public Free. 😇🙏 …
J. Rebecca Chen
Super beautiful gardens and forests. They put names on trees and plants. A very nice place to take a walk and have some natural educations.
Nabeel Choudhry

And whenever it is blooming it just magical place to stay .

Beautiful and peaceful place. Gardens have an extraordinary atmosphere. Multi color flowers. The fact that pets, bycicles or runners are not allowed, makes your visit even more peaceful.

Asha Daryanani
Absolutely beautiful garden to visit. Whether you want to take a walk or just lay down in the grass, every direction is gorgeous! There are plenty of turtles in the ponds, lots of fish and tadpoles, too! The koi are very vibrant and easy to spot.
There are several bridges you can cross, some terraces and pavilions, and plenty of benches to rest on. The archways of flowers and water fountains are also lovely. It's a great place to spend an afternoon. We took a slow walk through the whole park and spent about 3 hours there, it was great!
Yazzy C
Beautiful. Don't have kids running around like crazy, and throw stuff in the creeks, saw that today- it's a public space to enjoy, preserve, discover, experience and learn...
It's beautiful and there is a pollinator garden, beautiful roses are in full bloom right now! It's a place to relax!
Monica Terreros
Garden of lights was very nice. Enjoyed the walk. Definitely a good price.
Fly To me
Beautiful park to visited. To visited anytime alone or with family amazing 🤩 quietly to relax fresh air 🌳🍁🍃. …
AAA -
Very lovely place to visit with family, and its free. They close at 5pm.
Daniel Park
Beautiful garden with great scenery. A couple things to note before visiting - parking can fill up pretty quick (although it's a pretty big lot). There's an indoor venue that a lot of people book for parties/weddings, so that's probably why it fills up so quickly.
You're also not allowed to bring food/picnic, even though it's set up pretty perfectly for an outdoor setup.
You can walk around the garden and the little lake in the middle on a paved path which ends up being somewhere between 1-2 miles.
Great time, I would just bear in mind some of the rules before visiting.
Judy O
This is such a beautiful place. I hadn't been here in over 10 years and was so happy to see all the changes. In particular, I loved seeing their pollinator gardens. What a treat! Everyone was friendly that we ran into. Best of all, all this beauty is free!
Frank Hong
Free parking and entry to walk around the park, but parking can is limited when busy. Try to avoid peak hours. Note around sunset is typically the best timeframe to take some photos. The place has many different types of trees, plants, and flowers. Most of them are labeled which is great for kids and teaching. They also have different structures and areas that you can walk around and enjoy. Very very well maintained and clean place.
Akshat Jain
Amazing place to have a day out with family , friends or even spend alone. Can't wait to visit this in fall.
Elisa Ferrante
What an awesome place! Really great garden, amazing space even in the winter, excellent spot for pleasant walks. Cannot wait to visit again.
Went back a year later for the Wings of Fancy exhibit and I have to say that they done very impressive job with it. They have volunteers working that can explain butterfly life cycles and a really incredible variety of butterflies.
2022 update: still fabulous and one of the few places that gives me peace of mind.
Alona
Don't hesitate - it's perfect for visiting any time of the year. One of my favorite places.
Photos from spring 2021 and 13 of November 2021

I'm glad I went here for a walk. The place is so peaceful , relaxing & beautiful,I mean every corner of this garden is picture perfect & there's one spot that I felt I'm in Japan too. Definitely going to visit again!
Charu Bhandari
Love this place!
1. It's free and plenty of parking.
2. Had various flowers in the spring time.
3. My favorite is the Japanese Tea House. (You can always see turtles here when looking into the water.)
4. It's right next to Wheaton regional park. Just easy access makes it convenient.
Wendy-Nia Griffin
I can’t tell you how pleased I am to live within 6 minutes of this garden. So well keep by dedicated workers. The feeling is zen and it is free. Thank you Montgomery County you’ve put our tax dollars to really good use. It is therapeutic.
Khanhlinh Le Begin
Pretty garden in MD .You can spend all day here
Dr. Abby
This is a beautiful greenspace. It's perfect for strolls, picnics, relaxing, runs... It's also a wedding venue. No entrance fee, but there is a donation box by the gift store.

I have had the pleasure of experiencing Brookside Gardens for 40+ years now and it just keeps getting better each time I do my long walks. It is one of the best parks on the east coast that provides both beauty and lots of activities for all to enjoy and share with one another. Thank You Brookside Gardens!
Musavvir Mahmud
Amazing garden! Lots of trees and colorful flowers. Enough space to sit down for hours. Beautiful place. Children will surely enjoy this place.
pat Ritter
No matter when you go there the place is so well maintained. The gardeners and the groundskeepers take a lot of pride in the work that they do. Right now they are planting their bulbs. The mums are in full bloom. The place is just magnificent. I go there numerous times during the year just to walk around. It is so beautiful.
Laced Nomad
Come here a lot to relax and it always does the job love the Association of Japanese plants with garden

Beautiful place, large area, lots of places to sit, several Gazebos/Pagodas.
Lots of turtles, geese, and amazing flowers. Has a butterfly garden when in season (indoors).
Great place for photos, walks, and a small picnic.
Valerie Lang
This was great to do during a lul in the weekend! It was free and had so many places to stop and smell the roses, literally! The wall was around a mile and was full of wildlife and flowers. Love!
Isaak Sam Schulze
Family friendly, clean bathrooms NOT animal friendly. Lots of lights and other cool things to look at. Nature themed.
Lou Rivera
A very nice, small scenic place with beautifully arranged flora & wooded areas.
Most of the plants are labeled, great for looking up the species for further info.
There are some very exotic plants & trees.
The gardens are a magnet for butterflies and great for taking photos.
Highly recommended visit if in the mid-Maryland area.
Can capture most of the park in an hour & a half.
Angi Pere
Amazing garden to have a nice walk. Had a rose garden and this place is filled with so many amazing plants. If you are a plant enthusiast like me highly recommend.
Jonathan Kuhn
A great place to walk around and take the nature in. Long pathways are great for getting a walk in and there's plenty of benches around to relax on. There's also a few buildings to look inside and shop around in. Definitely a must visit whether you live in dc or you're just visiting :)
Kaitlyn Clifford
A great free garden. So manicured. The wisteria and tulips and azaleas were stunning! Smaller than I thought it would be- but still spent a few hours hanging out.
Hind KH
I’m in love with this place. It’s always great to find time and a place to breathe fresh air, and to be in nature. The place was so clean and organized.
brenna baker
Visited for a friend's wedding. Absolutely gorgeous space! Every area was more beautiful and unique than the last.
Amazing staff! So friendly and helpful
Bita Akhlaghi
I learned about Brookside Gardens through a TikTok post. We made a visit in mid April and found the park to be breathtakingly beautiful and well taken care of. My parents enjoyed every minute we spent there. I have been sharing our experience with family and friends and will surely go back!
Virginia Moore
These are such lovely gardens. You can see stunning weeping cherry blossoms in the spring and lovely rose gardens in later spring.
Shelby Kennedy
What a beautiful park--and how wonderful it's open to everyone! There's a rose garden, a fragrance garden, turtles in the pond, tiny birds I've never seen before, a greenhouse, and a nice mid-sized seating area if you want to chat and snack with friends and family. We saw a giant plumeria! Great walking paths and friendly staff.
Izabela Benjamin
Great place to be out and surrounded by beautiful nature. The conservatory is closed (June 1, 2020) but the rest of the Gardens is open and provides plenty of space to enjoy the specific plant display areas (fragrance, butterfly, rose, maple, etc. gardens) and the large landscape full of rich variety of mature trees. The rose garden is particularly beautiful right now. Grab a blanket and go for a picnic 😊
Danny Christian
Amazing outdoor space to walk around with friends and family. My little guy loved looking at all the flowers, but his favorite was all the turtles we saw at the pond
Alvin Tann
I can't say enough about this location. I enjoy every second whenever I visit. The bathroom is shutdown at 2PM here. I have often found that desperate parents would have their children relive themselves in a stream near a paved waking path. Besides the locking bathroom issue I have no negative comments. Just be sure to keep the lack of a bathroom in mind before visiting.
Yeliz Gedik
I have taken hundreds of photos here. It is different every day of the year. Whenever you visit you see something different. It is like therapy. Nature is amazing and it is very well observed and felt in this beautiful park. I visit very often and never get bored. Just lovely.
TN Tran
Beautiful place to visit. Free admission and parking. It can get crowded, but worthwhile. Early spring is a good place for seeing cheery blossom.
Sharon N
Previously visited during the summer but recently visited for the Garden of Lights this winter. Beautiful lights all around but the fountain display with music was a little lacking. The music was great but the display was a little disappointing.
Pamela -Floyd-Green
Wonderful place to walk and picnic, wear sneakers!
Holiday lights ....need tickets...online purchase 10.00 per person ! Pricey in my opinion! Beautiful display indeed . One food truck on site, gift shop also opened with beautiful poinsettias! 😍 8 dollars for small ....15 for large worth the price ! …
Yan Li
Great place for family, all kinds of flowers and trees, there is a green house and gift shop, free WIFI is offered, phone signal medium. The wheaton regional park is adjacent which is attractive to kids.
Sacha Place
Very beautiful light show and peaceful, well maintained gardens! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun outing.

Brookside Gardens is an absolutely lovely oasis in Wheaton Regional Park. There are many beautiful paths and gardens, gazebos and places to rest and admire the beauty. Obviously spring, summer and fall are the best times to go, but they also do a winter lights show and it is peaceful all year round. On beautiful weekends it does get crowded. There are birds and turtles and butterflies. A wonderful family place to go. A gem in our midst.
Ryan Burket
A great visit year round. Free with lots of events (some paid). Garden of lights event is really nice and chill, with some great displays.
Jonathan Ciriello
Beautiful, clean gardens that are very well kept. Parking inside the garden is limited but there is lots of street parking within a very short walk.
Jeffrey S
Part of a large park with many different sections. There a place to look at flowers and plants, another section for wildlife, a few miles of wooded trails, playgrounds for children, fields for baseball etc
JJ Edwards
A beautiful Garden, lots of flowers and a nice pond. We really enjoyed visiting here and next year again!
Igor Kostarnov
It’s beautiful and tranquil. Since I was there with an elderly person, I also liked it’s level for wheelchair access, there were no problem with access anywhere in the garden.
LeAngela
I've been in love with the beauty and serenity of this place for more than 2 decades. Great place for a walk, meditation and just being still!
Masood Ejaz
This is an amazing place to visit. Beautiful garden with amazing and very well maintained landscape. So many different kinds of trees, flowers, and plants. Entrance is free and plenty of parking space. You can spend few hours here and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Sichin Li-McCall
Beautiful magical Christmas lights!
Anthony Carr
My first time there. Beautiful gardens with wonderful paths to walk. I will definitely be back.
The Dan Rogul
Absolutely beautiful location that I didn't know was in Montgomery County. Lots of picturesque sceneries. Everyone was wearing face coverings and being respectful of each other. Currently, because of the pandemic, everything is outdoors and so much is still in bloom. Much of the wildlife seems to be accustomed to humans and allowed us to get very close. I'm looking forward to coming back here with more friends, socially distanced of course.
Daniel Acosta
Brookside Gardens has been our favorite park for relaxing walks with the wife and family. Always beautifully maintained, with the most amazing collection of exotic plants. The butterfly exhibit, wings of fancy, was very interesting with wide variety of butterflies. Thae have walking trails and a lake with other wildlife observation areas. It's just a great place to spend time. The best part is that it's free to get in.
Kimberly Ballou
Love it here. Super clean and a very beautiful environment. You can get exercise or just sit and read a book and relax. On my last visit someone was doing a surprise engagement. It was so beautiful!
Nadana Ravishankar
We have been there for tulips. They have maintained a great little garden and fancy of wings event. We have enjoyed our experience and kids have enjoyed the ponds and park areas. There’s a good conservatory as well. The area is very clean and well maintained restrooms. Only thing is all atheletic and cycling, fishing, pets and food are restricted. You can enjoy the park inside and outside for trekking, fishing and other things. It’s definitely a must visit place for one time.
Leslie Backus
Did the conservatory train set up (10am-4 pm) early in afternoon. Later, came back for Garden of Lights. See Brookside website. Timed tickets cost $12 45 (with fee) per person. While that's a change from before times, it is very much worth it. My pix do not capture the brilliance and magic.
Serge 3.
This garden is just beautiful! Many thanks to all good and talented people who created such a wonderful place.
johansen2004
When the indoor is open and the butterfly farm is open it is always fun and have more to offer for drinks, bathrooms, information desk etc. Also the butterfly farm is nice to see how they grow them and the variety of tropical plants. If you live in the DMV are is definitely nice.
Jon (JB)
Quiet and beautifully maintained grounds including wonderful outside gardens as well as a butterfly exhibition. There is plentiful outdoor seating throughout for taking it all in; it is absolutely calming and sublime. Also highly recommended is a beautiful Japanese-styled tea house near a small central pond, which affords a remarkable view of the grounds as well as offering a glimpse of turtles swimming nearby. There is also a beautiful monument to the victims of the DC Sniper attacks, which not only names the deceased but honors their loss with a warm sentiment suitable for reflection as you walk. Lovely place, worth the trip.
Matt Grady
Such a beautiful walk with my family. It was not very crowded and all of the plants were beautiful. I will definitely be going back.
Erica DiMercurio
These gardens are stunning. I have visited during various seasons and I’m still unsure which show is my favorite. The variety of plants is so impressive. Springtime rhododendrons are brilliant and Fall foliage is breathtaking. It’s a great place to visit solo or with a group. My boyfriend and I love it.
Anum Chohan
Beautiful gardens and lovely place to spend the day ❤️ always something to see when you go!
Austin Graff
ost people who don't live near Wheaton, Maryland may know Brookside Gardens only for their popular Christmas lights. The event costs money, but is worth it. If you go the rest of the year, the gardens are completely free. There's a large parking lot and trails that weave through all types of gardens, ponds, gazebos, and a conservatory. It's a very peaceful, beautiful spot to visit with the entire family. My toddler loved seeing the geese and snapping turtles in the pond.
S Tayyeba
Love this huge free park/garden! I've come here in fall, spring and summer and each season has it's own beauty. We went to the butterfly exhibit today which you do have to pay for but it's a lot of fun for the whole family!
David Slocum
We went to see the Christmas lights with our toddler. It was great because there were so many lights I had shapes that she knew. The paths were also generally pretty large allowing her to run around and us to go at our own pace. Definitely recommend it for the lights display.
Rob Bento
I heard about Brookside Gardens from a friend and I had no idea that this gem was hiding in plain sight. Brookside is a completely free park to be in, and if you want to pay the fee to visit the butterfly exhibit, e yyou absolutely can (and I suggest you do!) The park is absolutely beautiful with great picturesque views - from the beautiful gardens and fields around you, to the small ponds and butterfly exhibit. You will not be disappointed. One thing to take note of is parking: be sure to get here early. The parking lot gets filled up fast. After it fills up, there is parking available on the streets - but that parking is generally limited as well. You can bring your own food / drinks to have your own picnic, or alternatively, they generally have food trucks that you'd be able to purchase lunch from as well. Definitely make a day of it!
Jess Berndt
Excellent gardens with lots of flowers, shade trees and a unique live butterfly exhibit. A great exhibit for the kids, the butterflies will land on you if you stand around for a while. Good photo opportunities in that the butterflies don't move that fast and they are colorful. The walk through the park is very pretty with many exotic plants and flowers.
Vishal Sinha
This is a beautiful park in the DMV area. There are 2 parts to this park. The main part is a beautiful walking path with amazing landscapes and flowers. The second part is a Butterfly exhibit. The main park is free and the butterfly exhibit has an entrance fee. Both the parts are worth your time. The walk is beautiful with many things to keep you engaged. We had a good time in the butterfly exhibit too. The kids enjoyed their afternoon at the park.
The walk during the evenings is beautiful too - lights on trees make for a magical walk along the woods!
Must visit option in the area.
Natalie J
What a gem! Have not been here since they renovated. More parking, upgraded all through. Just saw the light festival and they are the best in the area..worth every penny! Just splendid!
Update: visited this summer for the butterfly exhibit and just to walk the gardens..it surely is a mini paradise as my photos can attest
Heather Wellington
Incredible public garden with pond and many beautiful small themed formal gardens. Many impressive plant specimens, four season interest with great early spring bloomers and late fall interest plants. Children's garden and play area, large greenhouse with orchids and tropical plants, community center with large community room, restrooms, gift shop, and classrooms. Great venue for weddings.
Keith Lemons
The gardens were very well lit for the holiday lighting event. Nice time for the kids!
Sonali Shetty
Went here during the tulip blooming season and it was beautiful. Huge park to explore with a lake. Loved the vibes here. Nice place to relax and unwind.
Rhitajit Sarkar
Amazing! The one and only word to describe the garden.
Sitting amidst the hustle and bustle of Glenmont, this garden is pure bliss for nature and quietness lovers. The tulip garden now is at full bloom, the roses are being planted. Going to be back in summer for experiencing the fragrance garden.
Shelley Magnezi
Great place to walk and enjoy the tranquility of the gardens and water. The tulips and roses bloom in their season. Check the calendar for concerts. Remember to go inside the Visitors Center to see works by local artists. The second parking is close to the Butterfly exhibit
Nick Vargish
Lovely gardens, beautifully maintained and varied enough to make every visit a new experience. The annual butterfly exhibit is a special treat for photographers and fans of pollinators.
B
My mother loves gardens and flowers , so I decided to take her to this place whilst we were on vacation near D.C. It was very nice walking through this place. I especially liked the "Fragrance Garden", which is a section of the park that has lots of famously fragrant flowers--jasmine, different kinds of mint, chilli flowers, etc.
The only downside was I had to hear my mother complain the whole time about how she wished her garden looked like that, lol
Meena
Great garden for some awesome fall shoot. love the trail it’s lovely and peaceful. Most of time visitor center is busy with weddings. Takes almost 1-2 hr yo explore. One of the best garden to relax.
Sarah Petri
Such a great place for all seasons. Butterfly exhibit, children's garden, roses and fountains for summer and Christmas lights in winter. Wide trails and parking in more than one spot of the park, for guests of all ages and abilities.
Nylyjah Cain
The Scenery is beautiful. I took my birthday photos here and they came out amazing. I recommend this place if you like to be one with nature. I didn't give this 5 stars because there are no public restrooms...it's probably due to covid but people still need a place to relieve themselves.
Augusto Cangahuala
This review is for the Garden Lights. Really nice walkable display, making it more enjoyable than those were you only drive-thru them. The miniature train display is also very informative regarding the history of the area. Also, the people working at the gift shops or information desk are very friendly.
Quinn P.
Great, beautiful garden. It's a great place to take photos. It's also has fun activities and very easy hikes. In the winter the Christmas lights are spectacular. Only thing is the Christmas lights costs money to go see, but I think it's worth it.
Sherlock Holmes
Mesmerising place and so much of flora .. see my photos and decide for yourself. Best public park/garden I have ever visited in recent times...
Bobby
Christmas lights at the garden are stunning. Only negative is that there are a handful of folks that won't wear masks. Given that this is a great place to take even young kids that aren't vaccinated it just seems a little too crowded to not wear a mask.
Abhiram Dwivedi
Went for Christmas lights! Absolutely loved it. Well thought of, very unique. The best I have seen in DC MD VA region. The live music at cafeteria was gorgeous.
Its not big, but plan for an hour inside.
The only con, is the amount of time I had to spend, outside, waiting in queue to enter. Easily over 40 minutes!
Yamilet Rivera
It was a nice experience with my 8-year-old... The lights were amazing. We went the last day and it was fun.
Styvens Belloge
The lights exposition are pretty ice through i am not sure the price tag is adequate. Moreover the cold at nigth make it a difficult activity to enjoy.Visitor beware and dress accordingly. The conservatories with its greenhouse was the better part. Young children will love the miniatures train exposition.
Mohammad Faiz
What an amazing park! I love it. 😍
Free parking, great management and lovely environment.
One of my all time favorite parks! …
Swati Sangvikar
Beautiful garden. Well maintained, lovely, a must visit in the spring.
Katy Hinkel
Been visiting this place since I moved here back in 2007. Such a lovely place that holds so much nostalgia for me and my family. Had a blast doing the garden of lights and overall just adore the atmosphere the garden holds

Brookside Gardens is a wonderful place. The plantings are always stunning and the people there helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend
Alexandra Gitlin
Been coming here since I was a little kid. Beautifully maintained gardens in all styles from traditional English to Japanese and everything in-between. You always find a few turtles around the ponds and if your lucky they have a recurring butterfly exhibit in the greenhouse.
Zach Bas
So beautiful here I proposed to my wife here! Such a great place to walk around and enjoy beauty.
Sasha
Wonderful! Beautiful landscaping, botanicals, and flowers. Total perfection.
Tracy B
Just lovely. Really enjoyed myself. Disappointing that the butterfly garden is STILL closed and remains closed until 2023?! Darn! I hope they are doing renovations - but I really wanted to see it. Nevertheless, it was a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful, tranquil surroundings and a perfect escape from DC area hustle and bustle.
Shahriar Chowdhury
Great place for a leisurely walk with the family. Nicely maintained and the aroma of the flowers are enchanting. Highly recommend.
Grace Priyadarshini
Absolutely beautiful place, a must visit. So green, clean and serene.
Bonnie Weimer
Love it, this place is so Beautiful and so well preserved. 🥰🥰🥰 …
Candice Bello
Love love Brookside Gardens. The the Garden of lights were so beautiful. We enjoyed the walking the gardens and admiring the beautiful displays.
Emma Weigle
There is nothing I don't love about Brookside! The paved paths are super easy to walk and stroller friendly. We adore their Christmas lights exhibits and rose garden! Everything is very well maintained and beautiful. Highly recommend for people of all ages.
Xiaoxuan Wang
Wonderful garden with all kind of flowers and trees. So enjoyable and the landscape is gorgeous.
Daniel Press
Great place to see Christmas lights, really well done with different themes in different areas. Good for the whole family, including babies, but there are a few places you'll need to carry a stroller up some stairs. A little pricey at $25 (per car) fee when you consider that other places offer a free walking tour, but still worth it for the 2 hours we spent there.
Stephanie Garcia
Brookside Gardens is a treasure, amazing flora, serene paths, interesting classes, and the staff always friendly and knowledgeable. Of course it is more beautiful in the Spring and Summer months.
Uriel Appel
I decided to go alone to Brookside Gardens and I honestly do not regret it for a second! The flowers and plants are categorized well and easy to find based on the area, constant care is given to them as well as a lot of thought for their placement, making the ecosystem support the place, this place is so beautiful, the smell, sight, and sound, all creating an incredible experience at Brookside Gardens! I suggest it heavily for anyone, a morning walk, a family trip, a romantic date. It's good for all of those and will not let you down
Iin Retno
What a fabulous place, and it is admission free! What more can you ask?
I saw a few people having pre-wedding photo sessions - adding to the beauty of the place.
Walking through the trail, stopping at the various spots, gives you all you need to refresh your mind, body, and soul. This place has it all!
Unfortunately, there were some (mentally ill, I suspect) people who left their rubbish behind, like soiled tissue, plastic bottles, drink cartons, etc. Infuriating!
Kat Fries
Beautiful planned gardens with accessible trails.
Wes Hildebrandt
This is a great botanical garden to walk around. The tulips are blooming now, and I'll be going back in a few weeks to see (and smell!) the rose garden in bloom. Update: peak rose season was early June, but there's always beautiful plants to enjoy here.
Lu Exc
We went to see the Christmas lights decorated in this garden. It was impressive.
Laura Thomas
Great free garden. Nice grounds.
Walid Nazari
Great place for a nice hike through the garden. Place is kept clean and tidy. Butterfly and Caterpillar exhibit in the summer is a great attraction for kids.
Srivamsi Reddy
Excellent place to visit. You can walk, hear the sounds of the nature and untangle from your stress!
You can plan to spend at least half a day here.
Michael “Rugby” Seifollahi
Beautiful gardens, fun place for a weekend family walk. The kids love the little play area and the Japanese tea houses on the lakes.
AJ
A great way to spend sometime being closer to the nature. So much to see and a lot to learn. It’s hard to believe that you have this much natural life and habitat right in the heart of Wheaton/ Silver Spring. We didn’t have to pay to get in, not sure if that was temporary.
Definitely wouldn’t not recommend walking through the hot house during a hot summer day lol.
Hassan M
Place good for walk , plenty of parking. Some areas are assessable to wheelchair. But it’s worth the walk .
Carla Perdomo
It was an awesome experience visiting this gorgeous place and even more beautiful walking around the trails and seeing all the beautiful nature, God it’s amazing. Truly enjoyed this place and thanks to my beautiful friend and sister Pili for the invitation.....
Lydia Sohn
Went in the winter, but I can tell it's super beautiful when the trees change color in the fall, and when the trees are blooming in the spring. Their Winter Lights festival is gorgeous and really well thought out! Definitely worth the $25.
Elanor Wainscott
Lovely place to go and walk. I have been visiting this garden since I was a kid. Love their Christmas light display in the winter.
DJ Smith
Beautiful! You can absolutely get lost here in the scenery.
Miguel Velez
Beautiful and lovely area to walk around and just chill
Laura Carter
Free local garden with easy 1-mile paved walking loop. Enjoy the flowers, trees, ponds, & fountains while getting some fresh air and exercise. Restrooms are available 1 at a time with masks required during visitor center hours.
Mary Jacobs
Beautiful variety of greenery and flowers across 50 acres of meandering paths. Admission is free!
Bren Miaira Kutch
Beautiful (free!) gardens. Great way to spend a weekend morning
Osvaldo Luna
Very nice place to go for walks. A big variety of different plants. Very nice when the flowers are in bloom. Great place to go take pictures.
Donya Carter
Peaceful beautiful gardens open to the public.
Sarah Seifollahi
Very beautiful, lots to see, stroller-friendly, public restrooms. Too little parking if special event and the kids area by the visitors center is under construction so kids will be disappointed if they usually play there.
S Z
A spectacular garden! Plants gives out happiness and it is a family friendly park for all ages and backgrounds!
Timothy Thompson
Beautiful location for walks with the family or friends. We saw a water snake eating a fish!
Amanda Habib

Jing Lin
I go to this garden often. It is incredibly beautiful. Just love everything there. I really appreciate the work of those I don’t know.
Monica Arciga
Nice garden for a leisurely stroll with many benches along the way. The paved path is conducive to strollers and wheelchairs. Lots of rules when you are inside the garden (no food, no bikes/scooters, etc). There are paths outside the garden for longer walks. It's free and worth a stop with plenty of space for social distancing.
Ibrahim Alazza
Lovely place to walk, jog, run, and get some fresh air!
I loved that spot
Marilyn
This is an amazing place to visit in the spring. It's great all year long but there is a month or more in the spring where the flowers explode and there is something new blooming every week. My kids and I visit every weekend for 4 or 5 weeks.
Nelson George
It is wonderful garden, only issue is there are no functioning toilets.
Isaac Liu
Amazing winter light show! Very walkable, they put a lot of variety into a small space.
Camila Dygert
By far my favorite garden in the area!!!
doshi priyank
Wonderful garden. Kids friendly. Amazing flowers.
Chris Robison
Beautiful garden with easy walking paths and well- curated plants with seasonal displays.
Buaa Snow
The best park that I have ever visited managed by a county. Thank you to everyone working there providing such an oasis to the residents and visitors.
Shirley Reed
It is a marvelous place! Come here to enjoy natural beauty, peace and tranquility. Stay away if you lean toward noise-making, chaos, and littering.
Bill Schauman
A great place to get yourself a little space. Who needs bars and restaurants when you can have a rose garden and a pond full of turtles?
Dr K Shepard
It's sprawling and scenic with several places to sit and take a rest or to take in the scenery. Bring your camera because everything is picturesque!
M. Bambridge
Visitor center closed for now, but garden and other outdoor attractions still open. Beautiful place to visit on a nice day.
Tamar Vardi
Gorgeous year round. Incredible that it's free, and convenient parking, bathrooms, water, etc. This place is a treasure.
Spencer Y.
Four of us went here for the Garden of Lights in December, they had some live entertainment, a caterer to supply food and drinks and the gardens are very well decorated gardens with lights. The conservatory also had a cool mini train display which was fun to watch. This would be a great place to take your family for a night out. They also have a $5 off military discount. We will be back in the summer to see everything in bloom.
جميل عائشة
I loved taking field trips here in elementary school and still love it here as an adult and their gift shop is lovely and friendly staff
Swami Chidbrahmananda
This place is a beautiful garden. It is a wonderful place for family and dates. It is so well maintained with different flowers throughout the year. Don't miss it.

Fantastic collection of flower plants and trees. Bit crowded but most of the people were using masks.
Brinda Dass
Something for everyone in any season. Our favorite local park to visit.
Mia Ross
Rolling hills, reverent serene trees, and we didn’t even get to see the whole thing! A perfect place to play.
Larry Holcombe
Very nicely laid out park. Plenty of things to see and do.
Raylee Ford
Gorgeous garden! My mom loves to come here now! We went for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it! Staff was super helpful and very friendly.
Ammie Salyer
Really enjoyed my time here especially loving the Rose Garden
Sam Mc
The splendid landscaping and the ducks playing in the pond are so beautiful and enchantingly beautiful park. Admission is free and there is ample parking space. Trees, plants, and flowers from all over the world are blooming, so many people walk, take pictures, and exercise. If you haven't, I highly recommend you to visit it. It is beautiful all year round.
Tim Dawson
What a beautiful, peaceful gardens. Makes for a great walk anytime of year.
Dallin Rowley
One of our favorite places to go as a family, to look for birds or butterflies, smell colorful flowers, watch the turtles and frogs, or just enjoy walking outside and being together
Jessica Hoover
An exquisite holiday light show experience! Don't forget to check out the amazing hobby train display in the conservatory. Absolutely worth the price.
Bryce Carpenter
Very pretty for a walk, even in winter. It is free and mostly quiet. An absolutely lovely park.
Tina LeBaron
This place is amazing. With the variety of flowers and blooms it offers a different experience each season. The plants and butterfly gardens are expansive, ranging from outside arrangements on a trail to indoor greenhouses. The staff and volunteers are well informed and we're eager to explain the science behind what they were doing to my daughter and myself. I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. It's also free and there's a dropbox for donations that if you want to help fund the upkeep.
Deborah Thalor
Been going there since a kid although I moved away from the area over 40 years. Still nice to visit.
Sarah Brown
I love visiting the grounds of Brookside Gardens in the warmer months for the gorgeous plant life and variety of animal visitors. It's important to acknowledge the center can be a wonderful resource in the winter, too!
While the gardens were mostly quiet and covered in a blanket of January snow, I participated in a kokedama making class in the adult classroom of the visitors center. Our instructor Kathy Jentz (editor/publisher of Washington Gardener Magazine) taught us about kokedama, self contained moss ball planters.
Kathy took us step by step through the process of crafting the moss ball home for little indoor, shade-loving plants. She also provided techniques to display, photograph, and care for our new living creations. She was careful to explain details and materials clearly along the way to enable us to repeat the process on our own, as well.
Each student created two kokedama to take home from the class. It was inspiring to see the variety of styles and appreciate the looks of the finished pieces.
What a lovely winter gardening project -- I look forward to checking out more of Brookside's classes!
Farhan
Late March and April are the best months to go. You will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers!
Ramona Flowers
wonderful and beautiful place to spend the day. the nighttime light show is overpriced but daytime entry is free!
Rajeev S
Good place to relax and do photo shoots.. had hard time finding parking
Iris Huang
Well maintained gardens that are suitable for the whole family. Cherry blossoms and other beautiful flowers are decorating the grasslands. Parking is free and should be able to accommodate visitors during weekdays. Bathrooms are clean and the staff is just sweet. Don’t hesitate to enjoy the spring and take walkies there!
Vincent L.
It is a wonderful oasis in an urburan area. We are blessed with the historic investments and the volunteers to make garden available for all of us to enjoy.
Sheila pal
I liked the Green house with various trees, shrubs and flowering plants from different parts of the world. Otherwise outdoor flora and fauna is not alive because of winter time .We enjoyed the 1 mile walk inside the gardens .I will come back in summer to see the plants and trees when they grow leaves, flowers and fruits.
The place was somewhat crowded with families with children as last saturday was a sunny day.
Justin Prud'homme
The gardens put up a beautiful light show at Christmas! It's an easy walk and very immersive.
g santana
Great place for a walk or run. Lovely place!
Bwalya Mwaba
A lot of character here. A picturesque green space that has multiple, smaller, gardens each with their own flavor. Spectacular beauty! You can also walk/run along the "Heart Trail" and take it all in :)
Erika Avalos
I love this place! It is lovely ♥️ very clean, very nice to take pictures and have a good time in family or to just have a short walk. The only thing is an issue are the restrooms, you have to go inside the office to use them and the office is not open the same schedule than the park ☹️ but all good.
Chris Demeree
Brookside Gardens is a wonderful little botanical garden to visit hidden in the leafy suburbs of Washington DC. Parking and entrance is free, so it can get a little crowded on the weekends. My girlfriend and I enjoy visiting on weekdays when the gardens are a little less packed. The caretakers do a wonderful job maintaining the walking paths and flower beds as there is always something new when we venture to Brookside Gardens
Larry Kern
The plantings of trees and flowers are truly beautiful... their holiday light show is the best in the area!!
helen fenf
The light show of the botanical garden takes people into the magical realm of nature
Sourabh Samaddar
Great place free parking, to spend time with your kids and family.
Eugenia Gusev
We go several times a year and love their lights around Christmas. Really great family outting, so we'll done and fun for kids, and to top it off a free concert inside.
The Nerdy Millennial
I used to come here as a kid and it's more beautiful than I remember! I could spend an entire day here just relaxing and enjoying the flowers. I have no words to explain this place so I highly suggest going and checking it out for yourself!
Lauri-Ann Solomon
This is a well maintained garden with plenty to explore. They have a children's garden which was a lovely outside imaginary play area for the kids where they could touch things. There was definitely enough to see, smell and explore. And it's a short walk to the nature centre and Cabin. Many things to explore.
TSEMU
The Brookside Gardens is decorated by creative holiday lights and is very attractive for all ages (personal opinion). To visit the garden, you need to purchase a ticket online in advance. Ticket is required for all individuals, but I believe kids under 2 years of age are exempted. There is a refreshment to purchase and enjoy it through your stay. Besides the lights, I loved the long walk which never made me feel tired as I was appreciating the lights. With too many visitors in the garden and lack of walking direction guides, it is very hard to know which way you went and which ones you haven't seen. Overall, I believe it is a good place to spend time with family while the holiday lights are still up.
Mithun Hossain
Beautiful, serene, tranquil park with nice gardens and walking place. Ample parking and nice place to walk.
Arjun Chaudhary
Very beautiful and well maintained.
Perfect for picnic.
Peter H
Went and saw the holiday light nicely done. Had a nice time even though it was rather cold.
Sheri Snyder
What a wonderful surprise to come across this gem when we had some time to spare. Free admission, clean, well marked, and many plants are labeled. Highly recommended.
batoul alsabagh
Such a beautiful park! It’s a hidden gem.
Victoria Torres
Unbelievable place in Glenmont. Every trail takes you to discovering something amazing. Love it
Stephen Cieply
Beautiful, peaceful gardens. Free to the public as well.
Tracy McClain (TW Wedding Officiant)
Serene beautiful place to visit if you love gardens and ponds. I officiated a wedding there and it was peaceful and makes for great photos and memories. If you want to have a ceremony you have to call to get a permit. They also sell a variety of seeds that you can buy to plant the same plants and flowers they have. Some of the flowers were huge! Nice place
Jess W.
I went with friends to the Christmas lights show. We had such a fun time walking around seeing the lights! I wished the lights stayed on after 9:30 pm. Tickets were $10 + $2 online fee which is cheap compared to the other light shows I've been to. Parking was free. I was able to see the entire exhibit and take pictures within one hour.
Marsha Prosser
Brookside Gardens was amazing. They had such a variety of flowers, plants, and trees. Their Japanese gardens were so beautiful and peaceful.
James P
Loved it here. Plenty of walking areas, beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. This reflecting pool is my favorite.
Shalex
Very nice escape
Luis Felipe Paredes
Absolutely beautiful landscaping, an oasis in the suburbs, nourishment for your soul...
Mona Alex
Omg the x-mas lights were splendid. Me and my family we enjoyed it.
Sreenath Nampally
We went to visit the Garden of Light show at the Brookside gardens and we were amazed by it. The kids also enjoyed the mini train exhibition that is on display during the holiday time. It's one of the must watches around the area during the holiday season. Arrive early, before 4:30 pm, for the light show as the traffic can get backed up.
Kai H
Bring your cameras. Bring your walking shoes and bring the vibes. This garden is gorgeous, easy to get lost though so make note of land marks as you walk around.
Marc
Beautiful and changes with the seasons. Saw Christmas lights which was fun.
Gregory Lowden
Beautiful botanical gardens! It's a very well-curated collection of gardens that always has something in bloom. Even when the parking lot is full, it doesn't feel super crowded (the rose garden gets pretty full, but not unbearable). There's a lot of great wildlife to be seen as well, herons, turtles, butterflies, and plenty of songbirds! My favorite spot is the fragrance garden.
Great for all ages, and the layout makes it perfect for everything from a short walk to a full afternoon.
John Wesley Brett
The Brookside Gardens Rose collection features an enormous variety of America's favorite flower. And don't be surprised to see a family of geese, sunning turtles and schools of fish during a stroll around the beautiful pathway.
Keith Sinner
This is such a beautiful place at night with the holiday lights.
Sergey M.
Beautiful place for walking... lots of flowers, geese, fish, turtles, butterflies. Overall definitely worth a visit with a whole family.
Jimbo Strachan
It was a nightmare getting a parking spot during the peak of the holiday light exhibition but it was worth it. Kids loved every minute.
Viki Betancourt

Very beautiful - look for the smell garden and the turtles!
Gedalia Walls
Garden of lights is really well done. It's $25 per car of people, so fill up your car and split the cost. There are several different areas to see with animals, gazebos, rainbow, giant caterpillar, and a sea serpent. There's also an electric train display in the green house.
The regular gardens are also a pleasure to see in the day time. Tulips will be up soon so check the website.
Andrew Bounds
It was peaceful, extremely well kept, lots of shade along the paths, and absolutely beautiful.

Esta bien! I look forward to going back! The trails, plants, layout, and everything is well placed and organized!

It's always pretty and quiet there in the garden and on the nature trails. Even though it's in the middle of a shopping and residential area, it is still very quiet. Enjoy the beauty of nature.

Smell the roses. Take a few minutes literally. The Rose Garden is beautiful and the fragrance is magnificent. Double whammy. The entire garden is breath taking. I love it especially in the morning.
Miss Natuful Blessing
Peace and tranquility. I couldn't find a better view than this....just amazing!
Paule Nzekio
I just find this place magical. The first time I went there it was to take maternity pictures and I just though "what a gem!". I've gone back for a play date. There's a playground within walking distance and I walked through the garden. I'm excited to go back and actually learn about all the plants and flowers, and also take pictures.
Jen T
Pretty gardens and very cute gift store. We enjoyed walking around, and we spotted many geese, goslings, turtles, fish, and a chipmunk! Relatively easy to walk, beautiful flowers and trees, pretty quiet. It was a very nice break from the city and we walked all the gardens in about 1.5 hours, but it can probably be done in less if you don't "stop to smell the roses." We will definitely be back!
gibshik
Wonderful place, nice people, clean , it’s please spa soak for rest and in joy
Richard Zhao
The best gardens in this area!
Alisha Worth
Lovely in all seasons. Well maintained grounds, and very peaceful.

Absolutely wonderful garden located in Wheaton Regional Park. I visit often and recommend others to visit throughout the year as well. There is always something new to see and experience with the changing seasons (e.g., blooming trees, plants, flowers, wildlife, music, sculptures, art, holiday displays).
maria ostlund
Beautiful! I loved all the flowers everywhere! A great place to relax. It was very peaceful.

Darcel Castaneda
Love walking here! Beautiful scenery, calm, and relaxing.
Christopher Byrd (A.C.T.)
Spectacular!!! So lush and beautiful. I lived in the area 30 years ago and visited the area many times since, but never knew such beautiful gardens existed nearby. My father, his girlfriend, my wife, and I all thoroughly enjoyed this unseen paradise. Thanks to all the volunteers and everyone else involved. We look forward to our next visit to this "Heaven on Earth".
Tracy Harding
Wow!!! What a beautiful place. My friend got engaged there. What a beautiful garden.
Carmen Gloria Rodriguez
Beautiful place, quiet and unexpected all that you can discover.
Lilia Sierra
Beautiful, peaceful. Forgetting every problem. just smelling different aroma, of Beautiful colorful flowers, many Butler fly. Nice relaxing place.
Molly Anne
my favorite place to spend a nice day if you can make it through the line in the parking lot
Josephine Hill
Beautiful Garden! My one suggestion is to add more signs so that new visits know where certain gardens are located. The trails and gardens were barely label and you just had to guess where to go even with a map. The stunning views and cool wildlife sightings made it a great visit.
Hanan Abu-Salih
GORGEOUS. One of my favorite places in the DMV area.
Irene Recto
Great walk and we loved the gardens! It was very kid friendly. We are definitely coming back!
Lideiva Delgadillo
My kids and I really enjoyed the colorful lights. See pics on Google.

Such a beautiful place for taking photos, taking your kids on a walk or to just relax. 100/10 for being it a free place. It smells heavenly with flowers. It’s also great for couples because it has such a romantic vibe.
Yosi Saadon
Beautiful gardens, no cost. Highly recommended
William Renninger
As always the gardens were a way to escape the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life into a beautiful setting. Thanks to all the employees and volunteers who maintain this gem of a place.
Yinzú Nairouz
One of my favorite outdoor spaces in DMV area. Year arounds the gardens are beautiful and it is possible to enjoy the rose garden, the tulip season, the cherry blossom’s season, holiday decorations, among others.
Stuart Dotson
Really beautiful well thought out landscaping. Each turn you make results in another breathtaking view seemingly pulled straight from a painting. Peaceful. Good walking surface. Has places to sit.
MG Martínez
Gorgeous gardens with lots of early spring Tulips

robert caicedo
Great park for walking and taking in the gardens, lakes and Butterflies.
Frenchy DDS
Visited to take engagement photos here and this was the PERFECT park to do so. It was cloudy and raining on and off throughout our session but the photos still came out beautiful 😍 SO many nice backdrops to pick from and fun shots we were able to get, large variety of scenery …
Jamil Musa
Beautiful place to visit. Relaxing, and listening to the birds makes this place so calming. A walk around the garden is a must. Great place for wedding photos and so on. I’ve visited here like 60 times in 4 hrs.
Alana Willis
This was my first time here and I enjoyed every minute of it. It is absolutely beautiful. I love plants and flowers and they have so many different ones. It's also a nice place to sit and relax with someone special.
Theresa Kim
Great place to see butterflies, holiday lights, and foliage. Or just read a book by some ducks and turtles.
Karina Perez
Beautiful gardens for a nice walk. Rose garden was amazing. Very pretty.
Peggy Cairns
I try to walk there weekly, it is so lovely, peaceful, and ever-changing as to what it in bloom. A real treasure, esp. since it is free. There are even electric car charging stations for use. The conservatory is reopened now, though limited capacity requires reservations for the time being. The wisteria were in their glory. The art gallery in the visitor center features changing exhibits by local, accomplished artists well worth perusing. The gift shop, when open, has some beautiful jewelry, art prints, decorative items and books. When classes resume, that will be a plus.
Conner Waybright
Beautiful place. Perfect for hosting events or just to spend an afternoon in a peaceful location.
VIKRANT SAGAR
It was a great experience. Rose garden was awesome. It's not very big so you can see everything in an hour or so. The visitors map is little bit misleading as to how big the place is. But overall we will go there again in different seasons.
Alisa K.
Beautiful place to walk, relax and enjoy.
Gigi Swift
Honestly the nicest park/gardens in the DC area. I don’t know what magic creatures designed the gardens but they need a medal and a docu-series. You can feel the love through every attention to detail. The trails are easy and perfect for older parents, kids, etc. I’ve noticed a few low key photo shoots by graduates and they have the right idea. Turtles are all kings and queens and rule the land but the birding is pretty great as well.
Michael Acuna
Lovely place to take your lunch or have a leisurely walk.
During the summer, the Wings of Fancy Butterfly & Caterpillar Exhibit is a great kid friendly activity.
During the colder months, their Garden of Lights Exhibit is a wonderful experience.
Shanker Thapa
Beautiful place to be.
Natalie Thomas
Amazing! I try to visit here once a year.
Kelsey Bettridge
Um, excuse me? How have I never been here before?? It's FREE and absolutely breathtaking??? Seriously, I'm not like a huge plant person but everything here is amazing. There was clearly a lot of planning that went into here and it shows. We enjoyed everything, but really loved the rose garden and the pollinator paradise. There's also tons of dragonflies, butterflies, and birds to look at too. 10/10 would recommend
Yanira Abarca
My first time there is beautiful
Stephen W. Wood
Very nice gardens to take a walk with the wife and kids. Little sculptures and fountains, vined trellises, gazebos (gazeboes? gazeba? gazpacho?) It borders a little nature center with a surrounding woods to walk through.
The kids can run around like lunatics and play with the calico cat 🐈 that roams the grounds, and my wife and I can walk around the pond and hold hands. AWWWWW. No, but seriously, I'm sure we'll fight about something stupid and make up, lol.
Anyway, notably: the greenhouse / indoor area closes at 4pm in the winter and 5pm during the longer days. Double-check me on that, but it closed at 4pm the last time we were there (in January 2022). Enjoy.
Allison Irby Vu
This place is magical. There’s enough to explore that you can go back over and over again.
Cory Hawkins
My late mother was a proud volunteer at Brookside. What a fantastic staff and volunteer crew the gardens have! Gorgeous installations all year round. Not just during the holiday lights (which are a must see!)
Eric
Brookside is great any time of year but the transitional seasons are the most spectacular. Go during the week to avoid the crowds on the weekend. Recent upgrades to the gardens are excellent. Japanese garden is a personal favourite. Great place for turtle watching in the terrapin state!
mks9554
first time visiting... beautiful 🌹 and walking trails... well maintained …

DAVID ALBERTO JULCA VARGAS
Beautiful place to go with your family. We really enjoy it!!
Y Fessehaye
I have been to the Brookside garden few times a week since I came here a couple of months ago. This place is hidden treasure inside the hectic traffic of Georgia Aveenue and Randolf. Such beautiful gardens and I have been coming for a quiet morning walks. Beautiful gardens, playground and train rides and beautiful picnic area
Cecilia Gaultney
Absolutely beautiful gardens.
The parking was the only issue. I think I had to wait a full 15 minutes in a line of cars waiting to park. I think if they had a parking attendant it would have moved a lot faster. Because of how the lot is set up, if you took the risk to go to the second or third area and didn't find a spot you would be right back in the line. So everyone was mostly waiting for spots they could see, not letting anyone past.
Sadia Brooks
This garden is free and absolutely stunningly beautiful. You can have a picnic here, a personal photoshoot, a wedding here but mostly likely have to pay but it would be worth your money. Your better off proposing if you want to save money, lol. They have butterflies almost everywhere in the garden. I recently did a maternity photoshoots and it was worth the beautiful natural decor. Come visit this place. It is well worth the time. Just go during the first of spring till the first of September, that is the best time.
Indral Jay
Well kept Botanical Garden with so many verities of flora.
Jennifer V Dominguez
Beautiful place and garden to walk and inmerse in nature. Also good for exercise, yoga and meditation.
Yehuda Abrams
Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. A rare review for me where not only is it not a place to buy food, but you can't eat there!
It's worth it though. Have a picnic at Pine Lake, and walk just a few steps to have have an afternoon of walking, talking, and enjoying nature in such a beautiful way.
People are respectful of noise and social distancing, many wearing masks as well.
JOYCE NEWELL
This was a large park beautifully laid out and easy to walk. It was busy but not crowded. There was no admission cost. There were nice bathrooms inside the visitor center. There’s a children’s area. There’s grassy and shaded areas. Shaded and sunny sitting areas. Lots of turtles in the pond. And so many different kinds of flowers.
Debra Bostron
More to see than we could see in two hours! Pleasant walking paths. Many places to sit and rest, both shaded and sunny locations. All with pretty views of flowers and trees.
Tracey N
Always a place of meditation and relaxation. Great way to start the day! My fave is the Japanese Tea House!

Nara Srini
Wonderful place to walk around. Butterfly garden is worth visiting with youngsters
Cheryl Bens
Little cold, it's still nice. All the flowers are sprouting up! Won't be long now before we get a full floral display.
V RP
Stunning display of trees, flowers, bushes , and garden art. Every season offers the opportunity to see and learn about a new plant and growing requirements.Great setting for a walk or hike and educational materials placed throughout the garden offer tips on health and sustainable gardening. Parking is a challenge but well worth it.
Elena Maximova
Pretty gardens and free entrance. We enjoyed it even on a very hot day.

Brookside Gardens is a gem of a public park in Montgomery County, MD. It is clearly led by talented and dedicated landscape architects and botanists. The employees of the park make their brilliant ideas and projects a reality. Volunteers also contribute to the functioning of the park every day. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy different displays of flowers. There are trees of thousands of varieties. The conservatory invites you to a tropical park with its magical plants. It puts on different exhibits from year to year. On top of it all, there are lovely fountains and sculptures throughout the park. The gift shops offer pretty souvenirs. It's a real treat visiting the park in any season.

A delightful place to visit when you want to experience nature, walk amongst beautiful flowers and see a few wild life dart thru the trees.
As a photographer, I love visiting this place for ideas to photograph my clients. I have done birthday sessions here as well as engagement sessions.
They also rent the facilities for weddings etc. Check availability on their website. They are open with limited hours during the pandemic.
Alesha Holliday
The gardens are lovely! The butterfly house is wonderful!
Jeffrey Stajich
Come anytime but especially from now until xmas for the fantastic light display and amazing train layout.
Matthew Tilghman
Brookside Gardens is a very pleasant place with lots of shade, a complex network of paths, and a very wide variety of flora, plus some small fauna that enthrall children. It is, in my experience, usually not overcrowded and is one of nicest parks in the DC area overall, certainly one of the most serene.
Claudia Clymer
Free and beautiful meandering walkways of lovely gardens. Adjoins a much larger park if you want more walking.
Tracy Stanton
What a lovely place!!
If you ever need an escape from the cement and noise of urban life this is the place to go.
The parking lot was nearly full when we got there but the place is so huge we still felt like it was our own private sanctuary.
R Lowe
A very lovely and well maintained place. There is peace there.
Steven Eno
Amazing garden that is well kept and a large variety of plants. All the plants are labeled so it is a great learning experience. The Japanese garden area is our favorite as we saw turtles in the pond and felt like we were in another country.
Judith Brands
Very nice park for a walk in the afternoon. Beautiful flowers and different style areas.
Arindam Banik
Have variety of gardens, spread across a large area. Great place for walking, general hiking etc. They don't allow picnic! Other gatherings like birthdays, wedding, etc. allowed with prior reservation.
Sam G
We go here multiple times per year every year. In the spring it's tulips for days, in summer, the gardens are amazing and the adjoining hiking forested trails make it a great afternoon, and in the fall/winter, the garden is lit up with Christmas lights. They also have musical events with hot chocolate and a large train display in the conservatory. Great place to bring your family anytime.
B B
Absolutely lovely places. I would highly recommend for a family outing or just to take a stroll.
Gayatri Rauch
Beautiful gardens! The rose garden is my favorite. It smells amazing! Butterfly exhibit is also great but its closed til 2022.
Lorena Rojas
Beautiful place to visit, or walk. Flowers, flowers no other words just beautiful to see the works of our creator.
Lindsay Ridgeway
My family and I have been going to Brookside for years. A beautiful landscape and impressive displays. No dogs is a significant barrier for us. Also, I'm disappointed that the large pond does not seem to be getting cared for the way other parts of the property are
No Name
The gardens are beautiful, the kids loved looking at the different types of flowers and plants and reading the identification placards to see what each one was.
Also the staff at the information desk & gift shop were very friendly and helpful.
Gabriel Begle
Beautifully decorated with colorful lighting (around Christmas time, each year). A very family-friendly visit, an instant hit with children . Fee is $25 per car, regardless of car occupancy. Do not miss the botanical garden, which also features a train exhibition during the winter.
Holly Warner
We went for the Garden of Lights which were absolutely beautiful! I've been here on field trips and had the chance to walk through the gardens in the spring. Everything was so pretty and well taken care of. The butterfly exhibit is very cool to visit. Great place!
sophia merino
