Reviews of Eye Associates of New Mexico Retina Center

Eye Associates is a very busy place. They seem to do their best to accommodate their clients. The wait times are long but to know in advance and to see everyone is working to do their best to lessen the wait time is comforting. Thank you for your services.

My first visit here, very worried about possible outcome/findings. The tech helped put me at ease, she listened patiently as I described my symptoms. Another tech tested me further-she was also great. Dr. G. Was kind, explained findings in terms lay people can understand. Although facility was very busy, I felt welcomed.
Santi Blondeee
Everyone were very professional and courteous. The facility was very clean. I like how everyone was friendly and they all including the Doctor took his time to listen and explaining everything in detail. Thank you.

Compared to other providers in Albuquerque, this place is the best for older people and the elderly. Your needs and expectations are not ignored as they are so many times another places. These folks definitely are at the top of the Nice List. Santa and I will definitely be back.
I had an 8:30 appointment. I arrived a few minutes early, I was checked in within 2 minutes. They called me back within 5 minutes to see the technician. It took about 15 minutes to test my eyes, dilate, do the scans. I waited a maximum of 5 minutes in the next treatment room to see the doctor. She informed me exactly what she had seen on the scans, explained every detail of what she saw and what the next step was. I am thrilled with the level of care and the time I spent.

Carla was so friendly and helpful, She assist me with the eye check up procedure before my turn to see the doctor.
She is very gentle and patience, listen to all of my issues, calming the situation and handle the whole process professionally. She is really a wonderful lady! (:
I was so nervous as this is my first time visited the eye specialist in Albuquerque. Previously I have all my eye check up done in Singapore.
But I'm lucky to meet Dr. Sullivan, he was awesome and very experienced. I'm glad that he is the one who is taking care of my eyes condition.
He is very concise in explaining everything, which I think this is very important so that his patients will be able to digest all of the information.

Eye Associated of New Mexico has been taking care of my eyes for years now. They are very efficient and professional. I am usually in and out of there in an hour for a complete eye exam. They have really got their flow lines worked out. Everyone is so courteous and friendly.
Cindy Smith
Was able to get appointment the same day. Everyone was very nice and polite

I was admitted there on Monday after asking for an urgent appointment on Friday. Technician Ashley was very nice and professional in performing all the tests needed before leading me to Dr. Rizwan Shaikh, who took my case and showed the highest levels of dedication, friendliness, knowledge and professionalism. It was a wonderful experience at Eyes Associates of New Mexico.

UPDATED EXPERIENCE:
After long conversations with the clinic manager about some issues I'd had with Dr. Shaik, who'd behaved inappropriately and said some strange things to me, she arranged for me to change doctors and see Dr. Sullivan-Mees from now on. At first, there was some confusion when I arrived for my appointment. Eventually, it was discovered that, although they had changed the appointment time, whoever put the appointment in the computer forgot to change the doctor I was to see. Fortunately, despite the mix-up, I did not have to wait too long to see Dr. Sullivan-Mees.
Dr. Sullivan-Mees is very easy to deal with. Low key, professional, and he quickly got me up to speed on what was happening with my condition. As he discussed the results of my scans, he pointed to the areas in question on the scan. Then we had a brief conversation about the approach we wanted to take at the moment. He shared his perspective. I discussed my needs and objectives. We arrived at a preliminary initial treatment plan that I was happy with. We will see how the disease is progressing in my case and then revisit where we are in another month. I also asked him what, if anything I could do to make a difference in my health and he was wonderfully forthcoming about that as well.
I can't describe what a relief it was not to have to pull information out of a begrudging and truculent doctor focused more on how busy he is than the patient sitting in front of him. Instead, Dr. Sullivan-Mees gave me hope for the future. His calm, efficient and kind demeanor is very much appreciated. You really need a doctor like him when facing a serious, often debilitating disease, and I recommend him to anyone in that position.
In addition, the support personnel are very nice - from the front desk people, all the way up to the clinic director.
With respect to the folks who write reviews complaining about long waits, I would ask them to consider the fact that there USED to be three retina clinics in this town but we have just experienced a phase in which doctors have fled the state - heading for other states where their income and benefits are much better, leaving a giant hole in this state. One of those clinics closed, and now there are only TWO!
My impression is that most everyone is doing the best they can to take care of the patients that have been left in the lurch. I won't defend the bad behavior of that one doctor, but even he gets some sympathy for this situation. People are scrambling to fill the void! I won't complain about the wait times and the occasional computer snafus because of it.
I am giving 4 stars because the memory of that first doctor is still fresh in my mind, otherwise it would be a 5-star review. Once that first doctor is further away in my rear view mirror, I will reassess and see if I can add a star.

It can be difficult to obtain friendly and patient medical care these days. But my visit to Eye Associates could not have been more pleasant. Every person I dealt with was super friendly and helpful. I can’t say enough good things about Eye Associates. It is a great practice! I highly recommend them for your eye care.
Karen
Be prepared to wait. I had a 2pm appointment and didn't get out there until 4pm. Saw the tech and doc for about 20 minutes...that means I sat in the waiting room for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Doctor answered my questions but was walking out the door as he was answering them so I felt rush and didn't feel relaxed to ask him all of my questions. I don't blame the doctor but the Eye Associates on overbooking their appointments so they have a higher profit!
Rodzilla 134
From the Intake staff to the technicians, doctors and the exit staff, everyone is completely on top of it. I have been coming to Eye Associates for years and have never had an issue. I tried a different place last year and returned this year. They are thorough and professional. Making my appointment was super easy also.
Diego Aragon
The entire visit was a great experience. From the receptionist to the technician everyone was friendly and professional. Dr. Pitcher has a great way of making a person feel comfortable and well taken care of.
Mike Cee
Have a good experience with the staff and doctors here. If you do the pre-check in before your appointment it'll save a lot of time.
Susan Munoz
From the front desk,to the highly skilled Doctor, I was very pleased and would recommend them to all my friends and family.

There is s HUGE waiting area and it has always been full. The wait is very long (2hours!) for a very short doctor visit. The staff are professional and pleasant but brief. Did I hear that this is the ONLY retina center in Albuquerque? In New Mexico? The enormous throng of patients quietly waiting to be treated testifies to that conclusion! Also, when I carefully studied the "visit summary," there were procedures that I am reasonably certain were not actually completed (e.g., some kind of a home rating procedure defining new/changing eye problems according to a spatial mapping system.) (( See, it took a while to explain that here; pretty sure it wd have taken a bit of time to learn it during the visit. Hence, I wd have likely remembered it!.)) I recommend reviewing the review with someone who has gymnastic ability for medical jargon and abbreviations. This emphasize, in yet another way, how very time-crunched the technicians are. Bring a book or a couple of good magazines or, perhaps, practice your skills at "breaking the ice" with other bored but kindly strangers!
Nancy Farris
Two appointments at this location - 6 weeks apart - the first one for emergency, the second for a follow-up. It's a busy place, and very efficient. At the same time, I didn't feel rushed at all. The staff is wonderful, and Dr. Sullivan-Mee invited questions, listened carefully, and answered in language I could understand. Everyone seems to really care about the patient, and patient care. Overall a very positive experience.
Christopher Miller
Very clean and expansive facility. Comfortable waiting chairs and warm atmosphere. Big open spaces. Check-in and Check-out was by friendly and helpful staff. Technician was very quick at getting images (for me that's not easy to do.) Happy to be there.
Rafina Emerson
Although wait time is a bit longer at times, but its worth the wait everytime.
Ann Heath
Dr Andersen and her tech Judy are great! Explained everything we’ll, very knowledgeable. Very streamlined process with very minimal waiting. Highly recommend!!
Andre Reyes
I was informed Monday evening at 4:30 that I had three retinal tears in my right eye and got scheduled for 8 o’clock the following morning at I associates. I was texted Monday night and Tuesday morning everyone was super helpful super friendly super educated and The entire experience was absolutely phenomenal.
jim knutson
The staff and facility were top notch. I used to take all day to get an eye scan and exam and the past two years it had gone down to an hour or a little more at best. Dr. Callahan is top shelf in every way. I totally enjoy working with her and the technical staff.
Eva Abshire
I had a remarkable experience with Eye Associates The staff and doctors were polite, professional, caring, friendly, & accommodating. They worked together to give me back my sight. I appreciate them.
Lilly Diamond
Have an eye emergency. Presbyterian ER sends you here. These folks are highly specialized to take care of emergencies. They heard I had a retinal tear and squeezed me AND repaired it all the same day. Quite pleased. Day two, my sight has already improved
Denise Colapietro
Very friendly and efficient folks. The doctor (Dr. Saiz) was very friendly, helpful and informative... Also patient!
Dana Nighswonger

Cathy Feldner
Dr. Reddy was very thorough with the laser surgery to repair my eye and he had a good and kind nature about him! His review has nothing to to with the staff or waiting time at Eye Associates of NM!! Thank you Dr. Reddy! 😊 …
David Church
Very efficient and professionsl physician, technicians and staff. I presented as a new patient with concerns about s potentially serious eye problem and was seen and evaluated the following morning. Highly recommended
Julia Walker-Grinder
I drive over 3 hours to Eye Associates Retna Center because of the consistent and excellent care! I see a specialist regularly and appreciate the care and compassionate doctors and staff. They have gone out of their way to make me as comfortable as possible. They have also accommodated me in my appointments to minimize the number of visits I need to make due to the distance I have to drive. I can visit a specialist closer to home but the drive is worth the excellent care I receive. Definitely a recommend!

I have a rare syndrome that causes tumors in my eyes that needed to be removed. Dr. Reddy and the whole Eye Associates team has been fantastic. I can't imagine trusting my eyes to anyone else.

Today I had one of the worst days I could have possibly had since I became a mother. My daughter is 19 months old and was throwing a huge fit. It was the first time she had ever done anything like that so I didn’t know what to do. I’d take her outside, get her to calm down, but nothing seemed to work and I couldn’t leave because the woman I brought was getting an injection so I felt overwhelmed and embarrassed. I started to cry and just sat in the corner next to the check in area and tried to gain my composure but I just couldn’t. The women who worked there were beyond amazing! I can’t believe how nice they were. I forgot my daughters bottle so that was a huge reason for her fit, but they brought her snacks, they took us to our own personal waiting room, and gave her something to color on! Not only did they make me feel like this happens to us all, but they calmed me down and checked on us periodically till it was time to leave. Then when it was time to leave, a woman helped me to the car, cause the woman I brought is elderly and requires my attention. She helped me get her into the car and made sure I was okay! I just am still in awe at how incredibly nice these women are. I will forever recommend these people. They take great care of you!
marie rivera
Doctors are very caring and nurses.. you have to wait a while but it's worth the wait.
Lois Cole
Highly recommended! Doctors are wonderful before, during, and after eye surgery! My husband is doing great 8 weeks after surgery. Only problem, they've have a number of doctors retire, the remaining doctors are absorbing all the patients. We had almost a 3 hour wait to get seen by the doctor.
Francis DeLozier
It was an very good appointment. My appointment was 8:00AM. I was called about 8:05AM and finished by 8:40AM.
Crystal Harwood
Excellent customer service here. Had to have both my eyes dilated, my first time....the doctor explained everything to me. Was a pretty good experience. Everyone there was super polite.
amy barreras
The visit today started off with a very rude lady behind a desk in the injection area. She was not nice spoke to me very rude. And was demanding me to go wait in the car for my mom. She asked for power of attorney papers because I help my mom because she is deaf. I don't have to show private paper work it's no one's business all they need to know is my mom is handicap and needs assistance PERIOD!
Eugenia Ortega

I have been treated by the physician's at Eye Associates for several years and, as a retired medical professional, can say that this practice is the best in its field. Their techs are well-trained, knowledgeable, and always exhibit a high degree of professionalism. Their physicians, particularly Dr. Robert Melendez, are courteous and truly care about the well-being of their patients. I would have no reservations whatsoever in recommending this practice to anyone needing emergency or routine eye care.
Esther Otero
Very professional and courteous staff from the front desk to the Techs and Dr. Ballew. I highly recommend this Retina office. Very clean facility.
susan langford
Best group of people from front office to techs and physicians. They have my complete confidence if eye surgery needed in the future.
Levi I. Duran
I have been going to eye associates for a number of years and would not have it any other way. Waiting is comfortable and get to share conversations with each other
Very nice and friendly environment.
Jennifer Fields
Dr Reedy did an excellent job. I will recommend him to everyone. He is professional, kind and friendly. Something you do not always see in a doctor. Having a doctor like that is what you need especially when you are scared that you may not regain your sight.
Arthur Montoya
Great experience! Staff and doctor were nice and extremely helpful. Appointment was right on time and all tests and procedure were seamless.
Toni Getz
Doctors and staff are wonderful. But they pack you like sardines into waiting room.
Richard Montoya
This practice is excellent, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the technicians, PAs and doctors take the time to answer your questions and help see to your health concerns. I highly recommend Eye Associates of NM!
Vanessa Frank
If you get an appointment. Do not take it lightly. This place is busy but very professional and courteous.
Brandi Jaskolski
I went to Sandia Vision and the doctor there was a nightmare. He was too lazy to even write down the condition he said I had so told me to take a picture of his computer screen and I can google it. I went to eye associates for a second opinion and the first doctor I saw was amazing and wouldn’t give me a diagnosis without being positive so she referred me to the retina center where I saw Dr. Chiu who is absolutely incredible! I was terrified with everything going on and he was kind and patient and every one of his nurses and assistants were amazing! Will recommend this place to anyone anytime!
Lindsey T
I had a wonderful experience. The physician and staff really took the time to understand my needs and ensured that I had insurance coverage before starting procedures. I really appreciated the comprehensive care.

This is a five star 🌟 rating for Kathy B. In the support center! Unlike the person who REFUSED to TRY to help me when scheduling an "fit in urgent appt. For my 78 yr old mother, who is very disabled..I won't go into details..she is on a medication schedule and she stays up at night..( for years) , she can't get going without her medication, which I really didn't want to have to give her 6 hours early...she is also incontinent..so getting her cleaned up and ready and loaded up takes alot of time...and more now with quick onset dementia..mother REFUSED to get up this morning at 6am..7am..8am...appt 9:10..I let the first scheduler know about my situation and..well..she didn't even try..😥..called right at 8am..KATHY B. ,so caring!! Going to help us..she turned my 😥 into..😌😂😅....thank you Kathy B.! Thank you for understanding the hardships of elders and caregivers and helping my mother and myself out with this appt.❤

I have been treated here for macular degeneration for several years and find it very efficient, and the doctors and techs are friendly. Dr. Roybal performed vitrectomies on both my eyes with extremely good results, and I've also had cataract surgery through Eye Associates, and that went well, too. I've been wearing glasses since I was ten (and I'm now an old bat) so I've been treated by a number of different ophthalmologists, and Eye Associates is the best so far.
Claire V
So happy with everything about my care at the Eye Associates Retina center.
Marlene S Johnson
Almost 30 years ago, Dr. Reidy repaired torn retinas of both eyes (cryopexy). I came in every year for the first 5 years, then every two years since. He saved my eyesight, and I am forever grateful. Yes, the waiting to see the doctor is lengthy, but I know I am going to see the best.

They greeted, they thanked. everybody all my doctors were excited with their treatment plan and my progress,Us patients really appreciate that.I miss you all!!!! The all over medical care I am receiving now is subpar, sad but true. Dr Haffner is very good🙏🏻 here at the New England Retina center in Hampton Connecticut.
