Reviews of Covenant Living of Golden Valley
Melody Villars
I moved into Covenant Living of Golden Valley in 2020. Even though my move was during the pandemic shutdown, and many amenities here were curtailed, I still was so happy to be here! It felt like home right away, and people were so friendly. Now things are back to normal, and there are always fun things to do, if one wants to. We have a swimming pool, fitness center, woodshop, library, game room, a beautiful courtyard with fountain, and a great bistro and dining room. I love that we all have private balconies, many filled with flowers. And the public areas on the main floor are so welcoming, with a fireplace, comfortable chairs and tables, even coffee, where people hang out and chat. My son is so glad I am here, and that there is continuing care for every season of life. To live here is taking a big burden off of your children. It’s the best decision I could have made, at 69 and wanting to be freed of household maintenance.m

My wife Linda and I have lived at Covenant Living of Golden Valley for nearly two years now. We are very happy that we made this decision! We enjoy the friendship of the many people we have gotten to know here, as well the many amenities that are part of the Covenant Living experience - the swimming pool, the well-equipped workshop, and the fitness center are especially appreciated. Not least in the many factors that helped us make the decision to move to Covenant Living was the life-long care provision, which means we will never have to burden our children with the need to find a higher level of health care for either of us. We encourage you to schedule a visit - now might be the perfect time to move into Covenant Living of Golden Valley!

My wife and I have lived at Covenant Living of Golden Valley for 11 years. We moved in when we were 75 years old. This has turned out to be the best age for us to shed the responsibilities of maintaining our homestead and living in our homey apartment with maintenance taken care of for us. We have able to take extended vacations without worrying about the house. Plus living in a community of friendly people and many activities we believe has added years to our lives.
Looking to the future we are secure in the knowledge that facilities of continuing care at Covenant Living are here for us regardless of the stage of our health. Our children agree with us that this is one of the best gifts we have given to them.

I have lived at Covenant Living for nearly ten years. It was a great decision not just for the security of a wonderful and caring community, but also a “gift” for my children to not have to make the decision for me. We have a great staff who provide activities, care, food, and much more. I love my apartment and look forward to each day.

I am glad I didn't listen to well-meaning people advising me that I was too active to be living in a place for "old people". Covenant Living of Golden Valley has now been my home for almost four years and I have not regretted my decision for one moment! I greatly appreciate my full and carefree life here.
The wide range of programs offered include recreational, social, educational, spiritual and cultural activities (e.g. concerts, book clubs, lectures, movies). There is also a strong focus on physical wellness, such as daily exercise classes, and water aerobics. This summer I especially enjoyed the excursions to explore various nature parks in the metro area.
When I don't feel like cooking, it's nice to be able to eat in the cozy Bistro or the more formal Dining Room both offering a distinct array of menu choices.
Another asset I value is the location. A drug and grocery store are located a few steps from the building, and the idyllic Bassett Creek trail lures many outside to take a daily stroll. I could list more reasons why Covenant Living of Golden Valley is such a wonderful residence for seniors. Why don't you come and see for yourself?!

Life is good here. Take a look around and you’ll see…Covenant Living is everything you could want in an Independent Senior Living Residence. Caring and friendly residents, a wide choice of apartment home floor plans, beautiful park-like setting, indoor and outdoor resident parking, casual and fine-dining restaurants, large pool and fitness center, housekeeping service available, all managed by an experienced staff. The campus also includes nursing assistance, advanced medical care and memory care.

I moved into the independent living portion of Covenant living Golden Valley approximately 8 weeks before everything in the world shut down with covid. I moved here because I liked it. I have no family or friends that live in the area. Obviously, the beginning of covid was not the ideal time to move. As single woman, I was so much better off being here than I would have been in my home. I saw people and could say hello each and every day. That would not have happened alone in my home. The care and concern for each of us was excellent. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me and the residents are great. Now on the other side of the worst of this covid virus, the programming of events, gym and pool classes, and outings provides many opportunities for fellowship, fun and information. This was a great decision as far as I am concerned for me to move here.

First and foremost, are all the wonderful people you meet here. Not only residents, but the incredible staff people that take such good care of us. I was first attracted to living here, due to all the educational seminars that were held in the Fellowship Hall. As a retired teacher, I am a big backer of being a "life-long learner," which certainly comes true when you live at Covenant Living of Golden Valley! Not only educational seminars are held in the Fellowship Hall, but many wonderful gatherings, just for entertainment and pleasure, most of which are followed by some sort of refreshments. I find I appreciate the safety and security in this facility, whether it be from the security provided from the front desk, or the sense of safety when I walk the halls, of which there are six. I never have to fear for my safety or look over my shoulder to see if I am being followed, as I did when I lived in my home. For me, having access to the Hennepin County Library, by having them deliver books right to our Covenant Living Library on the first floor, was a huge perk over just selecting books from a library consisting only of other resident's books. Covenant Living of Golden Valley often remodels areas, to keep the facility looking "up to date." I'm referring to our recently updated front desk area and the café area, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and a visit with friends. You can select three different options for an evening meal: You can either eat in the Bistro, or the more formal dining room, or even bring a bagged dinner back to your apartment to eat for more privacy, if so inclined. Other areas that I am very thankful for is "our location". You can walk out our back door to a myriad of facilities to meet your needs. In the Bassett Creek Clinic, you can find dentists, ophthalmologists, and eye wear. Of course, out our back door is Lund's/Byerly's (there is access to US Bank here), Walgreen's (where many of us pick up our prescriptions), HCMC branch where you have access to various doctors, you can take your dog or cat into the veterinarian at the "All About Pets Animal Hospital," in the Spring Gate Mall. You can get your nails done, or meet your friends at Teresa's Mexican Restaurant. All of this is available without a car! If you do drive, you have quick access to highway 100 to pick up someone at the airport, or go wherever you need to go, because we are centrally located. One other great perk is our access to walk along Bassett Creek on the tarred path with benches to sit down on, to view the ducks, turtles, flowers, insects, and various other wildlife. If you do drive, you can easily drive down to Bassett Creek Park, which is 2.2 miles away for a wonderful walk around the Creek to enjoy all the wildlife, read a book, have a family gathering, or just relax.

Outstanding independent senior retirement facility and community. I stayed a week here while visiting a relative and left very impressed. All the amenities (and then some) of a sparkling clean 5 star hotel plus, helpful staff and friendly residents. I stayed in one of their studio apartment guest rooms and was abundantly satisfied. My relative has a 1 bedroom unit that has a great layout with lots of closets and a private terrace. There's a Bistro and a full blown restaurant. We ate in the bistro each morning and were always satisfied. There's also tons of activities. There's simply no excuse to feel bored or lonely. The location, a few steps from a walking path, nature center and shopping is extremely convenient. This is independent senior living at its finest.

Maintaining a large home was becoming problematic and more time consuming than we desired. The professional ,talented, and caring Facilities Management staff at Covenant Living of Golden valley solved most of those issues. No task is too small or large for them to consider. Replacing a light bulb, fixing a cabinet door or appliance, a plumbing issue, or cleaning the garage, are some of the things they do for us. It is a joy to view the creative and beautiful landscaping as the seasons change. We are proud to call Covenant Living of Golden Valley our home.

The longer I live here (10 years plus), the more I find to like about this place. Small enough so you can know everyone, but large enough to have all the amenities of a resort. Location couldn't be better - easy access to all the major highways. Grocery store and drugstore right across our back alley. Staff that is amazing, personable, helpful. Fitness center and coordinator to keep you healthy! (I'm healthier since I moved in than I was before I moved.) But - don't wait too long. Move in earlier than you were thinking to take advantage of many years of living in this great place.

Both of my parents lived at Covenant Living of Golden Valley. They started in the independent living apartments that are comfortable and nicely configured. They enjoyed the many opportunities for community activities while retaining an independent lifestyle. They transitioned to assisted living when it became clear that they needed the extra help and services. One of the nice things about Covenant Living is that they could transition to assisted living without leaving Covenant Living buildings. The transition was smooth. Their assisted living apartment was still quite comfortable. They retained much independence. The staff was great. It was clear that it wasn't just a job for them. They really care. They were accessible and helpful whenever needed. When they needed more care, they transitioned into the skilled nursing building across the street from independent living. Once again, the staff was great. They preserved the dignity of my parents while caring for their basic needs and safety. They did a good job of encouraging community as well. The skilled nursing building offers nice places to gather, including private rooms for family celebrations. I highly recommend Covenant Living and their caring staff.

My parents moved there in 1987. My dad died about 6 months later of pancreatic cancer. My mother continued living there until she died in 2014 just one month short of 101 years It was a wonderful retirement place with independent living and a wonderful dining area where family members could join for wonderful meals. My dad was a retired Covenant pastor which made this transition possible

I have been a resident for 16 years. There is no place I would rather be at this time in my life. It is a gift to me and to my children.

It's the PEOPLE of Covenant Living make this an incredible community. The residents and staff truly care about one another. Beyond the people themselves, this campus offers anything you could need right on site, and Byerly's is out the back door making it very convenient for active seniors. This way of living offers the highest standard in social engagement and living with purpose, while having peace-of-mind that no matter how your needs might change in the future, you have a home for LIFE.

My 98 year old mom was here for rehab for a two weeks. The staff was very attentive and caring. I was very reluctant to leave my mom at first but everyone here was wonderful. I gave them 4 stars because many of the workers had accents and sometimes it was hard to understand them
