We needed a 3/4 violin for our daughters music class and this was the only shop in Tampa that had one available. Lucky for us we stumbled upon a hidden gem 💎! Mikel helped us over the phone and in person, he was beyond proffessional and the best customer service one could hope for. They recommended a great instrument and even played and tuned it for us live! The prices where extremely reasonable and they offer trade ins for when your child grows out of the size. Real woodshop on site they build all the instruments in and perform repairs. We felt more cultured by the time we left, highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic first experience! I was highly educated on the various models available for sale. As a beginner, the patience and thorough explanations helped tremendously about the science behind the sound for each model (beginner, intermediate, advanced). I was even given a very helpful demonstration of how was violin sounded to help me get a visual and audible idea rather than just a thorough explanation. All in all, this is by far the best violin shop I've experienced. If I had to give a video game reference, I'd say it was just like going to a blacksmith who goes through a thorough tutorial to help you learn the ins and outs of equipment to get you started before you begin your adventure.

Absolutely lovely experience! We just needed a quick fix up on my daughters violin, and it took literally no time. They replaced the strings, tuned them, and made sure to polish the violin before returning it to make sure there were no finger prints left on it. When we had picked out the violin (about a year ago) they also made sure we really chose the violin that my daughter liked best. They are some of the nicest people working there, and I am very pleased to have gotten my daughters violin there.

Took my cello to Violin Shop for a new bridge and end piece on the recommendation of a cellist in the Sarasota symphony. Mikel discussed the entire process for me. He is a profession cellist and I felt very confident leaving the cello in his care. The luthier Francesco finished the work in about 1-1/2 hours. Beautiful job. Mikel. played my cello for me and it sounded fantastic. The Violin Shop is a real gem. I would not hesitate to take an instrument to them.

We stumbled upon this violin shop while exploring Tampa, since we were only here on vacation. Wow! It was impressive. Definitely a boutique cello/violin shop, but with everything from budget friendly beginner instruments to high end custom pieces. We were greeted with the most hospitable and knowledgeable staff. Violin Shop Tampa is the friendliest, most knowledgeable and most helpful music store I've visited. They are adept at helping both the beginner and the pro. Their rental program is very family friendly and the rental inventory is good quality. That's very important as you do not want any student to be held back due to the quality of the instrument they are renting. The luthier shop does high quality work with very loving hands. It is something special/old world to take a peek in the shop and see instruments in varying degrees of repair or stages of being created. The owners Derek and Ethan are always willing to take time to answer any questions and help however they can. Mikel, Bonnie and the rest of the team are there to make sure you have everything you need. This kind of shop requires a high level of one on one costumer service and this team is the best. I recommend them to all my students both for rentals and when ready to buy. I have also made purchases there with very happy results. If you need anything regarding a string instrument, this is the place!!

Derrick spent about an hour with me talking about my violin and helping me to choose new fittings for my old violin that I played 60 years ago. It’s had very little use in the last 40 years. Now that I’m playing in a group again, it needs a good re-fit. I am thrilled with everything! They even gave me a loaner violin for my practice and rehearsals until my violin is ready for pickup! Derrick is very knowledgeable. I also need a new bow (the old one was warped) and I will get a few loaner bows to get just the right one for me! What just happened? I brought in my Barcus-Berry acoustic/electric, purchased from "Offer It Up" yesterday , and a bow I bought off Craigs list 20 years ago for $40. which came with a broken Lion's head violin. I didn't think either were worthy of being serviced at such a fine Violin store. I braved it and went in. Magic! Alejandro replaced 3 strings on the violin, and played it. A master violinist, he made it sound beautiful. Then, he played his music on his 100 year old violin from Paris...spontaneous and magical. Next, the bow was examined and its maker, Wilhelm Eichler. It's a German-made bow which he valuated at $1,000.! We both agreed that it was a good Craig's List buy! He is servicing that with re-hairing and adjustments as needed. Make this your Violin/String place. They have expertise, reputation, personalized treatment of each customer, and excellent (fair) pricing. The woman who checked me out was awesome. Overall...tops!

Me and my 8 year old son just stopped in the shop and were greeted warmly despite them being very busy. They took the time to put multiple instruments in my son's hands and show him how to play them. He was ecstatic. Nobody else in town took the time to make him feel comfortable and confident that he could actually play. This place is absolutely fabulous! I am a complete, adult novice, attempting to learn cello, and they were incredibly helpful and informative. I worked with Mikel and he showed me pointers on the instrument itself, bow positioning, tuning, checking my sound post, and he set up my finger tapes completely free of charge! I bought new strings and he restrung my cello and showed me all the nuances. The staff is very talented and wonderful to work with. Highly recommend!

I came in to buy a violin for my 8 year old daughter & I know zilch about violins. Derrick, did a fantastic job of explaining how to measure my daughter for a proper fit and some other basic functions of the violin. He went above & beyond with giving me pointers and resources that would assist a young beginner! I like the fact that the store will take this violin as credit towards another violin once my daughter outgrows it. Do not hesitate to purchase a violin here. What a true treasure this place is… and what’s even better, are the people that work there. I had the esteemed pleasure in being directly assisted by Ms. Bonnie Walker. Bonnie, from the absolute moment she greeted me, displayed true compassion for my desire to learn all things Violin. The interaction I had with Ms. Bonnie was filled with education, reflection, understanding, support, laughter, and true desire in wanting to assist me achieve what I wanted… despite my aptitude for the genre or proficiency for the instrument. Also, for good measure, I am in my 30’s wanting to learn Violin. Sometimes our age or even appearance can dissuade us from taking chances or asking questions, due to fear of how we may be perceived. The passion in my words, from which came from the depths of my heart, were what was felt and subsequently focused on, as the true source of Ms. Bonnie’s interaction with me. When you have someone with a seek first to understand, then to be understood attitude it truly allows you to be heard, supported and ultimately fulfilled… that’s right fulfilled!! My questions were listened to, understood, and then supportively navigated, despite the knowledge I did or did not possess. Then, when things couldn’t have gotten any better, Ms. Janaè, another employee, joined in and offered her support and gracious spirit to assist me in my decision. I never, once, felt pressured to make an immediate decision nor judged on a particular question asked. Truly, I cannot make this up, I had a deeply moving experience and I hope my words can support someone that, either, might be on the fence going to The Violin Shop in general, or one that might be on the fence about string instruments.
