Best guitar shop in the state, for sales and repairs. Been shopping here for 25 years. Recently brought in a guitar with serious problems and build defects and Moses spent countless hours diagnosing and repairing it. As far as sales, everyone in the shop is super helpful and knowledgeable. The big box store in town may have more guitars, but Guitar Czar has more playable guitars, and if you discover a minor setup issue they fix it instantly for you.

Better variety of guitars and brands than most other shops I've been to. You can get set up with an amp in a room so you can really hear the guitar you're trying. Employees seem to know what they're talking about too!

We walked in with little more than a desire to encourage our kids in their interests- we had one beginning taylor guitar in the house and three kids interested- we are not skilled musicians - and Jimmy and Demetri instantly made us feel welcome and even qualified to be here - they stuck by us were patient and so kind and helpful - it was honestly such a cool experience choosing the write instrument for each of them and it was like magic when the right one was found. They shared their knowledge… Jimmy and Demetri’s passion for these instruments spilled out of their very person. It made it such a safe and honest environment to explore our own journey. Thank you many thank yous! It was so refreshing and empowering to find such an honest real establishment!

This shop is one of the raddest places in SLC. Very kind, welcoming, and patient vibe/culture here. I'm a drummer and usually frequent the shop next door but have been trying to dabble in things I can't hit with a stick. I have a very high level of social anxiety and I've never felt uncomfortable at Guitar Czar, seriously 10/10. A few weeks ago I was too embarrassed to try basses out myself so one of the employees sat for maybe an hour playing basses for me so I could hear how they sound, couldn't recommend this place more.

Came into Guitar Czar looking for an electric bass. Salesperson Dimitri was super helpful in helping me sort through different models in my price range and willingly educated me about the differences between them and played the two I was deciding between on request. He was very knowledgable as he also teaches bass and helped me find a Gretsch short scale that will be perfect for our family. I will definitely be returning to Guitar Czar for any of my future guitar needs.

Really great selection, including a few customs by local luthier Joe's Guitars. My fave is this wild, distressed G firebird style guitar with F hardware -so cool! Awesome acoustic room. Last visit I got a couple of really nice cables and a new set of tubes for my amp. The guys and gals here really know their shtuff! Lots of choices in a small space. Guitar Czar really is where the coolest guitars are!! around 60th south and State Street on the east side of the street. I like this place a lot.

Guitar Czar literally does the best setups I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve tried dozens of shops over the past 20 years. These guys are the best! The staff is really helpful and easy to talk to. I would say the staff is probably the best of any music store I've been to. They don't wait for you to come to them. They try to find out what you want which I appreciate. If you don't know or understand something, they'll explain it without making you feel like an idiot. The equipment is definitely on the pricey side and typically not necessary for beginner to intermediate players. Their high-end equipment is fantastic. My only complaint is really just the lack of budget instrumentation, but overall really good.

THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING!!! I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE! My uncle recommended I come here to fix up my Gibson songwriter. Moses, who is one of the guitar pros at Guitar Czar, told me exactly what my problem was within 30 seconds. I thought I was going to need to buy a new part and he could have sold me on what I thought was the problem, but instead he quickly made two quick adjustments and it was fixed. Best part…..HE DIDN’T CHARGE ME!

Can't say enough good about Guitar Czar. Ray took in my ES 355 Gibson and professionally fixed the neck. Not only fixed the neck, but matched a tricky guitar color perfectly (Gibson Olive Drab Green). His attention to detail and craftsmanship are unparalleled. I am one happy customer! Guitar Czar is an awesome shop, I come here all the time. They're small and local but despite that they have a good selection of electric and accoustic guitars, it seems like I see new guitars in there every time I go in. Same goes for basses, good selection anywhere from 5 string to fretless. They also have a great selection of amps, cabs, and pedals. I usually come to this store for string and cables if I'm not picking anything else up. My last guitar, bass and bass amp (and guitar amp now that I think of it) we're all purchased from here. The employees are kind and friendly and always willing to help out and just talk music. I always prefer to come to this shop over a big name change shop. (you know the one, no hate on them but I like supporting local)

I can't say enough about this place and I wish I had found them a long time ago. It would have saved me a lot of time and money. I've purchased two guitars from them recently and I could not be more pleased. They let me spend as much time with each instrument as I needed to make an informed decision. Everyone there is knowledgeable, friendly, and provide a great buying experience. Even spent some time with their service department as well. They could have charged me a lot to fix an old guitar, and instead provided me with alternative options even though they could have made a buck. Won't be going anywhere else.

These guys are the best. Most friendly and helpful staff around. Extremely knowledgeable. They a always have a solution for whatever issue I have. Recently had them repair a pickup switch and do a setup and I swear they just replaced my guitar with a brand new one, lol, it was that good! When they say 2 week turnaround it's always been just 1-2 days for me.

Pretty surprised by the number of negative reviews. I guess you can't please everyone. I have always found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. I used to shop at the old location which was closer to home for me. I brought a John Lennon Epiphone EJ-160E for setup, and the repair guy found a flaw in the bridge construction that could have led to serious damage. He brought it to my attention and explained what was needed and why. I have been very satisfied with my experience, and will return again!

I bought a bass here today and I think it was the best shopping experience I have ever had. I was able to try out a couple different basses and Wally helped me and my wife make a great purchase of an instrument I am extremely excited about. They performed the setup on the bass and made some mechanical adjustments to get me out the door with an instrument they were proud of. I am so thrilled that I went here. Literally everyone was so welcoming and enthusiastic about what they were doing, and you can tell this place is all about quality.

Very cool local shop! The Luther knows his stuff! I was working on a repair project and I needed to buy a capacitor. He helped me understand the different types and how they affect the sound. Now that I think of it, all of the staff operates like this here. They have never "sold" me anything. Instead they have educated me on the different options available for what I am trying to do and then recommend the best fit for me and my budget. Walking in here feels like stopping by at a friend's house tbh. I come here for all of my electric guitar stuff.

We went in to buy a beginner acoustic guitar and the prices here were much lower than other places in the valley. Wally was really friendly and helpful and made sure we left with every promotional item available. These guys are super nice and very knowledgeable; I highly recommend this spot.

One of the best guitar repair shops around. I started going to them for random repairs and upgrades throughout the years, and have never had a bad experience. More recently I’ve made more purchases there, and have not been disappointed. Most reputable musical instrument manufacturers dictate the price their items, and provide a warranty so you may as well buy locally from a shop that’ll take care of you, and you can go or for quality repairs. Most big box stores don’t check instruments before they ship them to you. It’s too costly with slim margins they are making on entry level instruments. Go into a big box guitar store and you’ll be lucky to find a guitar that they’ve taken the time to tune. A local shop like this will include a set up and make sure things are working right whether a $300 or $3000 Guitar. If you’re trying to learn and instrument you’ll likely get frustrated playing it if things like string action and intonation not set up right. Guitar necks are affected by temperature, humidity etc. Always nice, always low pressure and happy to have them here in Salt Lake City and want to support them so they’re around for years to come.

This is the guitar shop dreams are made of. A+ on selection for any price range. Wide variety of instruments, amps, and effects. Bonus points for all instruments being set up quite well. Price was great, and if they can special order you something, you could even get a discount. 👏🏽 I worked with three different employees while I was in the store, and each of them were EXTREMELY knowledgeable. I can’t begin to say how impressed I was with that alone. You ask about it, and I guarantee they’ve got an answer. This is THE Utah guitar shop. I’ve been to a lot of them, but this is hands down my favorite.

I was uncomfortable in their store, as they are very stingy with taking their guitars off the wall and it was clear that they didn't want me to spend too long with their guitar. Good selection of Gibson's, though not the most knowledgeable staff. They have Taylor's but no martins, for Martin or Taylor go shop at Acoustic Music SLC.

I recently visited a big name guitar store near my house- I walked in looking to buy a beginner guitar for my boy. I walked around for 20 minutes and did not have a single employee ask if I needed assistance. I walked out the door and drove to Guitar Czar. I walked through the door and was immediately greeted by Jimmy. He asked me what I was after. I let him know and he walked me straight to a perfect 3/4 sized acoustic guitar. I walked out of the store in 15 minutes hooked up with a new guitar, bag, and a handful of picks. Don't waste your time with the big name places. Make Guitar Czar your one and only stop! You'll be supporting a local business as well!

I have been a customer of Guitar Czar for over 20 years. I absolutely love this place. The newer location is much more visible and easy to access. Still a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I had Eric turn my first bass into a fretless years ago. They still have a fantastic luthier shop. While you're there, pick up a Folk Hogan cd or three. I think the entire band works there, lol. I know one of the luthiers is a Folk Hoganite. He made a Flying-V Mandolin. One of a kind.

Bought a Fender Telecaster here. I wanted to completely customize the guitar and trusted Ray to get the job done. Not only did he get the job done, he exceeded my expectations. The guitar turned out great and was done just the way I wanted it done. I gave Ray another custom guitar to work on that was very tricky to set-up, he got the job done on that one as well. Great guitar shop!

They dont pressure sale and they are always courteous. I take lessons here and the teachers are amazing and fair priced. They are also now centrally located in the valley allowing better access. Ample parking and great hours.

Took my guitar to get a touch up and the guy over the register totally hooked me up! everyone there was extremely friendly and professional. as I waited I was greeted with a smile and a friendly "do you need any help" by every single employee. they offer an amazing verity of guitar brands and models. especially ones you cant find at guitar center or best in music... I was amazed at how this "Ma' and Pa'" music place blew big chains like the ones previously mentioned out of the water! Everyone there was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. DEFINITELY going back and making this my new music store.

I love this place. My last guitar purchase was here and it was a pretty big one. I took a lot of time on a few different occasions to play nearly all the guitars in the acoustic room. The employees encouraged me to take as much time as I could and provided some excellent guidance on how to make an educated purchase. I never felt pressured or like i was being 'upsold'. They really just shared their excitement for the craft and were genuinely excited to help me find the right guitar for me.

Staff is friendly and helpful, and the selection is pretty good. They stock stuff that Guitar Center doesn't, like Mesa Boogie and various effects. I've had a couple of guitars setup there and the work is really good. They set up one of my guitars in the wrong tuning once due to a miscommunication but they fixed that free of charge. The way a company handles situations like that says a lot about them. I'm impressed with their integrity and will continue doing business there.

This place is amazing. It's like the music stores i remember as a kid. Helpful staff, real musicians who share their experience and love of music with you. I brought in my Washburn acoustic in for a tuneup and to have the strings lowered. They took it right back to a technician, he made a minor neck adjustment and it now plays amazing. They wouldn't accept any payment and encouraged me to come back again. I would highly recommend these guys for anything from small jobs to major instrument restoration. A+++

One of the best guitar stores I've been to if not the best. Every time that I have entered I have been welcomed very warmly and felt like they were happy to see me. I often come here to grab guitar strings and picks. I will usually ask them a couple questions I have about different equipment such as amps or pedals. I have an Epiphone Les Paul 100th anniversary and I took it to the store to change the strings and also to leave them as strings with the lowest possible action. There was a problem with the cable entry jack. I got the guitar that Friday and I wanted to be able to spend all day playing because it is much more comfortable, everything adjusted. Flawless work. I’ve been going to this place for over fifteen years now, and it’s the best guitar shop in Salt Lake. I’m a Fender guy personally, and they always have a great selection of Fender basses for me to geek out on. REALLY like this store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They will match any advertised price, too. When I needed a guitar set-up in time for Christmas, they put a rush on it so it would be done in time (even cleaned off the finger prints!). They are always willing to answer any question you might have, be it beginner or advanced. The owner, Eric, is a pretty cool guy too! I HIGHLY recommend this store for all your guitar needs!

I had my Gibson Es-330 serviced here recently. I loved the guitar before, but man it’s even better now. They were fast and asked me how I play and took the time to understand what I wanted in the setup. I will definitely be using them to service my guitars in the future.

Nice selection of guitars. Luthiers on site. Did a great setup on my mandolin. Edited: Just took my second mandolin, another barely used but new to me, here for a thorough exam, setup, and string swap. And I have to say Moses is, in my opinion, one of the best luthiers on the planet, especially with a mandolin. So blessed to live nearby. This shop is the real deal. The luthier was the coolest dude, he made me feel like I was his best customer. I am old, and that was rare and awesome!! The manager James (Jimmy) is a musical mastermind in both performing and education. When I ask for advice about my guitar, I listen. It’s a great shop for anyone who wants to know about guitars. I walked in here for a repair and he was able to do it very quickly. It was a fairly simple intonation repair but my guitar requires you take the neck off. Riverton music could not adequately repair my guitar even with much more time. Guitars, Drums, and more is even worse. Guitar center knows even less than any of them. All of the guitars I saw were quality, on top of all this they are very friendly. I will only be shopping here now

The folks at this store are very friendly. The setup they did on my 4-string Yamaha was great. It plays better now than when I bought it. Another time I came in, the staff recommended some strings after I described the kind of sound I was looking for. Again, they were on-point. I plan on having Guitar Czar do all the work on my basses in the future. Edit 1: I had Guitar Czar convert one of my basses to a piccolo bass. Holy cow! This thing is Stanley Clarke'd to the max. Are there still people in Salt Lake City actually shopping at Guitar Center? You should drop the big box and come here. Edit 2: Every time I get work done here it just gets better. I brought in a new Fender P bass for a setup. The tech found that the truss rod nut was broken. Guitar Czar was VERY reasonable in terms of price for fixing this defect. Also, the setup on this thing is awesome. Super-low action, and no fret buzzing. I love this shop!

Best leuthier I've ever had. They are extremely thorough and very good at what they do. Anything over ever had them do from set up to swapping out of parts is perfect and I get my guitars back in better condition each time. I have around a dozen guitars I've had serviced there multiple times each and I live in Utah county. It's worth the drive it's worth the money and it's worth the time. Don't waste your money on GC... guitar czar fixed for me what they screwed up in the past. On top of this they are the coolest guys I've ever met in a guitar shop. Super nice super helpful and genuinely care that you are happy. They even get excited about project guitars with you. You can have your guitar expedited to the front of the line for an extra charge usually resulting in same day turn around. General wait is a little above average but that's because they don't let something out that they can't stand behind and they are in high demand.

I toured many shops in the area when I was looking for a bass+amp. Guitar Czar was by far the best place to visit. If I would have just come here first, I would have saved myself a lot of time! If you are looking to buy a guitar, bass, or amp, come here! If you think you can find an instrument cheaper online, remember they hook you up with at least one tune up after you buy the instrument. You won't be able to beat that!

I would buy bass and bass amp gear here over any place in Utah, but not sure if I'll use their guitar repair services again. Still giving it a 5 stars because of the selection/sales, not because of the repair services. I bought a Mesa Boogie amp through here. They gave me a free speakon cable because it was a $2500 buy. They are the only Rickenbacker suppliers in the state. They have some of the best selection to play from for a bassist. Nice guys that take the time with you if you are serious about buying- helping you with pros and cons, etc. I don't think I will ever go back there to get work done on my basses, however. I have a short scale bass that I bought a new bridge for and wanted them to set it up for me. It came back with noticeable intonation issues, which they said is just the nature of a short scale bass... wasn't too happy with that answer.

I took an out of the box SG in for set up and had multiple scratches around the input jack from missing with the 1/4 inch cable. This was the second chance, the first I had $2,000 in my pocket from my first loan to buy an acoustic. The guy told me I had to be a serious buyer to "touch" his guitars. I was at 18. I walked out and never came back until my SG set up and regret it. Moses is an awesome guitar tech/luthier. Kameron and the others at the front of thebstore are super friendly and helpful. Great selection of gear. The space is small, so they don't have zillions of guitars like one of those chain stores, but they more than make up for it with quality guitars and amps. Sweet meechandise, laid back atmosphere, and an opportunity to shop local. Don't waste your time going to that guitar megastore in Taylorsville, go to Guitar Czar. You won't regret it.

We found out and went to check it out the same day. They had apparently just changed locations, and were still unpacking things. The store feels like it's being run by enthusiasts, in a really good way. There are stacks of amps on the floor, and two walls are covered in guitars and basses. They have a variety of brands and styles that I've only seen in much larger stores. They also have straps, strings, parts, cables, picks and accessories in large quantities. Due to the physical size of the store, they don't have the largest number of guitars, for example: they only had two short-scale basses when we came, and one of them had a broken volume knob. That said, they still have instruments in many styles and price ranges. They seem to be well worth checking out as an alternative to large, disinterested chain stores.

They have always had what I need and I'm sure if they didn't they would get it for me. It's a bit out of the way from where I live but it's worth the drive. I needed a case for my jumbo acoustic and I went in with the specs and he pulled out a measuring tape to make sure I was getting the right thing. I can't say their prices are any better than the internet but they're certainly not worse and there's something to be said for being able to get what you need same day. They also have a large selection of guitars and amps you don't see other places. Do them and yourself a favor and shop here first.

I went in to look for a 2019 gibson sg special, but they had sold theirs a couple days prior, but they had an sg junior there that just looked great. It was on the upper rack and I asked them if I could play it, and they had no problem getting it down for me. Then they set me up on the same amp I had at home and plugged me in and I started playing. I dont know if it was the staff there or if it was because it was just a super example from gibson, but It played better than anything i have ever played or owned and I own some wildly amazing players the best of which is my 04 gibson explorer which Is in itself amazing and better playing than the dozens of explorers I have played and looked at. So although I think the instrument was super good, I think the staff at guitar czar is great at setting up the instruments they sell. It felt so nice I almost popped for a guitar I had never considered buying before in my life. I had to have them put that axe up because I would have bought it if I played it any more. The next guitar I asked them to see was a 70's lawsuit era ibanez korina explorer copy that was hung right next to a 2019 gibson explorer. That guitar even played better than the SG Jr, it was a little over a grand out of my price e range but damn, I wanted to get the credit card out and take that thing home with me. I dont know what the owner of that place is feeding the techs, but they know their stuff when it comes to making a guitar feel the way the good lord intended when he graced us with the six string electric guitar. And I will add this, I bought a epiphone casino coupe from them a couple years ago when they were at their other location and the service and setup was completely amazing then, it still plays as good as my best gibsons right now and the only thing I have done to it is change strings and try not to screw it up because it played so well when I bought it from them. If you are in the market for a guitar I totally recommend them and have them set it up to your preferences before you take it home, you will be glad you did. And if you have a guitar think it should be easier to play than it is or even if you think it plays good, but have never had a pro setup done on it, take it in there next time you need strings and pay whatever they charge for the deluxe setup, heck, just take it in and have them do the deluxe setup and new strings anyway, even if you just put a new set on, and I am willing to bet a kidney that it will feel like a new guitar when you walk out of there. He concluded that where there isn’t signal noise on clean channels and that the noise doesn’t reduce when touching strings on distorted channels that it likely isn’t a grounding issue, but just the normal amount of noise that comes from high output passive pickups when you dial in a lot of gain. Thanks for your honesty and professionalism! Salespeople didn’t try to upsell features they couldn’t explain. I’ll probably come back for a guitar with active pickups in the future and will be better prepared to make a selection provided with the knowledge they shared. A+, you guys are awesome!
