Carter Vintage Guitars is an exceptional place. I don’t know what else to say. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Thanks again, Kim.

A must for every guitarist! The shop is a dream! There is a great selection of guitars and a great team behind the store. Next time I'm in Nashville I'll stop by!
Greetings Luca from Berlin

William took care of me. The guitar is beautiful. Plenty Of Geetars to see and play....steel guitars and Sitars as well. This place is amazing.
Erik Neilson
JUST WOW! Never seen that many high end guitars in one spot! Lisa of Gibson's! Easy to find, staff was cool, plenty of parking. If you play guitar you should stop by.
Randy Ocheltree
It's scary spending so much money on something that you can't see or hold in your own hands. After contacting Noah at Carter's, he became my eyes & hands. He examined the guitar I purchased carefully and described in detail all that he saw and answered every question I had. The guitar arrived in even better condition than was described. Noah was very courteous and patient in handling my questions and concerns. I HIGHLY recommend Carter vintage; you can shop with every confidence that the instrument you are interested in is exactly as described. Shipping was prompt, and packaging was outstanding, too.
Danielle Muscato
Wow! I was speechless walking into the main showroom. Beautiful selection of legendary vintage guitar models as well as many unusual finds, like a Hofner violin guitar and an oak-bodied nylon string. They also have vintage and high end amps, and double basses. The staff was friendly and helpful. Truly one of the coolest guitar stores in the country.
Brian Stanley
Phenomenal customer service without even stepping foot in the door! Joel was fantastic with answering all my questions about my purchase and the entire process from sale to delivery was exceptional!! The Gibson I purchased arrived safe and packed well.

It’s always difficult buying something at a great distance. Currency exchange and transfer of funds , different, time zones and related communication issues etc,. Much depends on good faith, trust and of course good communication. Having searched the World Wide Web and found the exact instrument I was looking for on Carter Vintage guitars website, I was initially doubtful as to whether the ‘difficulties’ would be overcome. Kim Sherman handled the sale. Her attention to detail at every stage of the transaction was second to none. 5 stars and a huge thanks to Kim and Carter Vintage. One day I’ll make it to Nashville !
Erik Loeffert
i'm very pleased with the guitar purchase that i made over the phone. when it arrived it was shipped very professionally and perfect and i couldn't be happier. if you are concerned with getting high end gear shipped, don't be. these guys are real pros and are on it!!!
Kevin Funkhouser
Awesome selection of vintage guitars. The sales staff weren't welcoming until I asked one of them a question. Then they were very helpful. Great store.
steve harris
Great place wonderful selection of awesome guitars
Brandon Cravens
What a collection they have here. So much history in here, and every instrument you pick up could have so much history behind it. Every Gibson and Martin fan needs to come take a few hours to drool over some rare old guitars and gear. The sales staff here are super friendly, especially since I expressed I couldn't afford anything in the store they still insisted I play whatever I felt like. They made me feel at home, and I was grateful to play a few of these jewels. Thanks Carter's..I'll be back some day, and I bet I'll buy something!
Keith Richard
This is "The Go To" guitar store for vintage and fine guitars! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and wants to make sure you get what you want. I will always purchase from them because of the information above and their fair prices. Love Carter Vintage Guitars!!!!!
Libby's Bluegrass Videos
Beautiful instruments, friendly staff, a fascinating place to stop if you’re in Nashville. They’ll let you play anything. Great guitars. Well worth a stop!
Kristen Tomberlin
Free parking in certain marked spots next to building!! Really cool place to look at vintage guitars and other string instruments. Went on a Monday morning and there were several other people there playing guitars and testing them out. Loved it, nice staff.
Grant Lindberg
Wow! What a guitar store! So many great instruments and very friendly staff. A must stop for any guitar fans when in Nashville.
Eddy Frisk
Stumbled upon Carter Vintage Guitars with walking down 8th, what an amazing place. A enormous selection of stringed instruments, primarily their vintage selections... a 1967 Rickenbacker... and vintage Martin ukuleles. The staff is super helpful, ask for Justin.
Shareen Barker
Amazing selection of stringed instruments from reasonably price to tens of thousands of dollars. Hands friendly. Play anything you like. Vince Gill was hanging out behind the counter while we was there talking to everyone.
Mitchell Gordon
Crazy awesome store! One of the most indepth stores I've ever seen for guitars. Great staff that is helpful. They allow you to play guitars you might be interested in. By far one of the largest selections I've ever seen and they repair some of the top guitars in the industry. Must stop for guitar lovers!!
Alex Rudd
One of the best guitar shops I've ever been to. Fantastic selection of electric/acoustic guitars and amps. Little jam rooms filled with amps to test the merchandise. And very fair prices! Went in expecting to play around with some quality instruments and walked out with a Taylor 714. And an amazing bluegrass band played a free show!
Michael Larson
I don't play,but I sure like looking.
Several vintage guitars, well worth a visit.
Arman Hakimian
This place has some amazing guitars and amps but I feel over the last ten years has strayed further from the realm of Nashville musician friendly to "how much can we get a 50-60 yo man (I feel usually us men are stupid enough to pay these prices) to spend" territory. It's more of a museum at this point and even proved such as there was a couple from out of town taking pictures of all the merchandise. Might want to get an audio tour at the entrance and go full force museum. And before you chastise me, yes I could technically buy whatever I wanted in there but I would like to stay married.
Grimnir
If you are a musician this place is more than worth stopping at. Beautiful collection of guitars, mandolins, and more that are ready for you to explore and play. The prices are right on most of the pieces I looked at and they have skilled luthiers in the back if you need repairs. Probably the best guitar shop to visit in the country.
Robert Voves
This place is awesome. Tons of incredible guitars and mandolins and much more
Julia Cannon
Too often when a woman goes into a music store we get bombarded with sexist comments and talked down to or we’re just completely ignored.
I love Carter’s because that never happens. I feel safe and respected each time I’m in.
I walked in yesterday and left with a beautiful new Silvertone thanks to the help of staff member, Bo.
I highly recommend you stop by. They’re down to earth and super helpful.
Connor Morey
I have always loved Carter Vintage, Seth was amazing and kind. I love my new guitar and amp. Thank you!
Pat Zelenka - Red Ridge Entertainment Artist
GO HERE! SO worth the trip from Michigan.
LOVE the staff. Not one dud in the bunch 😄
Will be going back as soon as I can!
Stephen Zeek
Great selection of guitars and you can play most of them without issue. The staff during my experience were helpful, knowledgeable, and have a great sense of humor. Would make my next instrument purchase here when I come thru Nashville again.
Randy Lovoy
I'm still wiping the drool of my chin. Amazing place. And yes, that really is mandolin for $175,000. Love stringed instruments? If in Nashville, Carter Vintage is a must see.
Andrew MacDanel
So many amazing guitars and reasonable prices on vintage equipment.
jan achenbach
A musician's playground. Look, touch, play, listen.
Devin Ringwald
Awesome shop. We visited a few famous Nashville guitar stores during our day in town, and Carter was my favorite. Justin was very helpful. Stop in if you get a chance, its as good as any guitar dtore I’ve been to, anywhere.
Lucy L
The selection of instruments here is incredible. The vintage room was amazing!!
Frank A
Made a pilgrimage to this guitarist’s idea of heaven. The quality and variety of guitars on shown is just amazing.
JACKD DAMRON
1974 LP Deluxe. Cracked at the bottom of the neck. GREAT work by luthier Gerald. Looks like new.
kyle hopkins
Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. Insanely good selection of top notch gear. Highly recommend!
Mike Scarvelis
Pancho and the gang at Carter Vintage are the best. I just received a 1951 Epiphone Zephyr Empoeror Regent yesterday. I called for an in hand inspection and Pancho answered all of my questions and described the guitar accurately and honestly. A few days later it arrived here in Michigan well packed and safe. I even got a tee shirt out of the deal!!! A great guitar from a great company. I can’t wait to get to Nashville to thank them personally!
Rooky Woods
I had a great time visiting Carters Vintage Guitars. I found a guitar that I wanted within my price range and enjoyed the process of buying it. The staff is amazing especially Erik Fryckman who was my sales person. While I don’t live in Nashville, I am certainly going to travel there again soon.
Thanks Carters,
John Jameson
Sue Sleeman
Great place if you are into vintage gear. Definitely not a high pressure shop
Tim Batts
I love shopping for instruments in Nashville and there isn’t a place I’d rather go than Carter’s Vintage Guitars. Huge selection of amazing guitars, mandolins and equipment. I love going there any time I’m in music city. Check them out.
Jason Wade
The best guitar shop I've ever been too. Normans better watch out
Shauna Lynn
Crazy cool collection of vintage instruments. As a woman it can sometimes be a little difficult to be taken seriously but this shop was incredibly welcoming and absolutely no pressure. Highly recommended.
Jason Mcelveen
This is the place to go for Nashville guitars. Nice people and good inventory.
Kelly Butera
Steeped in culture and good vibes. Guitars, bases in mandolins, banjos, amps, luthiers......you dont shop, you experience Carters.
Andrew Chamberlaine
Honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had buying a guitar going on 20+ years of collecting. Carter’s sales reps took extra time to send us photos since we were not able to visit the shop in person, they worked with us on pricing, and they shipped the instrument overnight in a bomb proof box. I had heard Carter had a great reputation as a vintage guitar dealer, now I can say I know that for a fact after experiencing first hand. Will certainly work with them again when the opportunity arises!
Lisa Kerns
Have been to this store twice, and loved it both times. Staff is welcoming and not in your face. I love the fact that nearly everything is accessible to pick up and play. Mr.Carter can be seen regularly, and he makes a point to say hello and make you feel welcome. In awe of many of the instruments on the floor. Its just a great experience all around for the fan of music and vintage instruments.
Amelia Ketzle
I don't know anything about guitars, but this place is amazing.
Rachel Rice
My boyfriend has been looking for a new guitar and had been to Carter Vintage Guitars before. We’re from out of town and didn’t realize they closed at 4:30 on Saturdays. We came flying in at 4:26 and the guy that helped us was so nice. My boyfriend was able to get a sick Jazzmaster and they even gave us a free t-shirt for hauling to get there before they close. Awesome guitars and customer service! Highly recommend!!
Sammy Smith
Dream guitar store....if they don't have it, you don't want it...
Brook Garretson
Some who say a guitar is just a guitar haven't been here. How many times can a person say wow?
Esme Ruiz
Very good selection of guitars.
They also have souvenirs.
Nice place.
Jason Watts
While passing through Nashville I had to stop by and check out Carter Vintage Guitars. While I didn't fall in love with any of the fine musical instruments, I did enjoy the atmosphere and the friendly staff. The ladies at the front desk were a lot of fun to chat with when they aren't slammed with customers. Thanks for the great afternoon, it was worth the stop!
Kyrinn S. Eis
Lovely place, friendly, helpful folks will get you sorted in no time.
Paul Grant
It's Carter's Vintage Guitars!
Love this place.....just amazing!
John Kehl
It was fun to look have around in this large shop. They have a large selection of acoustic and electric guitars and mandolins. They even had a couple of upright basses, but that doesn't seem to be their specialty. It seems that they only deal in high end, very pricey instruments and amps and I don't think I saw a guitar that was under $1k.
Paul Cicciarelli
Definitely the place to go in Nashville for guitar players & collectors. Great inventory & selection from lap steels to vintage acoustics. Stop by and see the Fender Statocaster used to record "Sweet Home Alabama"(yes, for real).
Brian J
Ordered a guitar online that I ended up returning only because it wasn't THE one. However, customer service was excellent. Very knowledgeable, friendly and patient in answering all questions. Dealt mostly with Justin. No hassle to return item and very easy to work with. Will definitely shop there again if I see THE one!
Jeremy Waters Enterprises
Vintage and specialty guitars for all types of guitarist. New and used plus accessories strings books ECT. Also buy sell trade yours or upgrade. Country and rock vibe.
Nunes810TV
Such an amazing experience and a true wonder of the world.
Jonathan’s Guitar
Left pretty quick. Wanted to find a 67 Strat.
Patrick Brady
I made my first purchase from Carter’s, and could not be more satisfied. The shop is meticulously laid out, and very well merchandised. However the best part of the experience was the staff. Each team member was incredibly polite, and enthusiastic to help when asked. I will absolutely be back to Carter Vintage Guitars, and of you are visiting Nashville I strongly suggest you visit!!
J P
Beautiful place with rare antique guitars, mandolins, and other instruments. I have never been to a store this amazing!!!
Dario Jimenez
Beautiful collection of guitars, took my 15yr old son an he was treated so well by the staff. Thank you so much guys, Really made my son's day.
David Gibson
Grade A! The staff is so helpful and friendly. They fixed my guitar and gave me a really low price. They were so accommodating. They even gave me a free tuner and told me how to use it. This place was amazing! Two thumbs way up!
Hampton Short
Outstanding experience. Emoyees were very approchable and helped me understand the boutique world of their MasterCraft instruments.
Tim Hester
Such a great place. The people were friendly and very attentive. Didn't have time to look at the complete selection of guitars. There were so many! Fell in love with one, was able to negotiate a deal and came out feeling great about the purchase! I would recommend this to any guitarist.
Nathan Medina
This is a great place to stop by if you enjoy quality vintage guitars. They are friendly and have a great selection.
Brent Hall
I've never been to a place better than Carter when looking for quality used gear. The selection is top notch, the staff are friendly but don't hover, and you never know who you're going to see there! (Joe B. came in once while I was there) I feel highly fortunate to live here and to be able to visit Carter on the regular. It truly is a world class store for guitar lovers. If you're visiting Nashville and even remotely interested in music or guitars, don't miss it.
Will Gamache
Chose to visit Carter's on a busy Saturday afternoon. despite the number of customers mauling about looking at the amazing selection of guitars, there were plenty of helpful folks there ready to answer your questions and to help you. I was able to sell an instrument and actually got a chance to meet one of the owners. Very family friendly, very friendly overall, with a great group of support staff. The prices are right on par with what I would expect to actually pay for most of these instruments, as opposed to being highly inflated because this is Nashville. You owe it to yourself to come down and check them out.
Big Al
Absolutely wonderful, great staff, even Mosrite guitars on display (the best) great staff, thanks
Joshua Deskovitz
I’m out of Michigan and traded a Nash JM-63 for a beautiful Mario Martin Custom Tele. Bo responded quickly with a trade in value. And the value was definitely better than anyone else would’ve offered. I absolutely love this telecaster and is unlike any other telecaster I’ve played. Thanks for the smooth transaction and will definitely be dealing with you guys in the future!
Thanks again
Christopher Deet
Really cool place. Lived up to the hype, even during COVID-induced used guitar shortages, and my visits around Summer NAMM weekend.
Check it out when you're in town. You might meet someone famous! I did when I was there!
Will Russell
Let me just say, I drive an hour and a half to get there, but I don't trust any other shops with my guitar..They were very helpful. They had my guitar setup and ready to go within a week. Will be back 100%.
Taylor
Was there to buy a banjo but I am just a beginner and was not looking for one as nice as the ones they had. Great selection though if you are looking for high end and the staff were very friendly. One of them was even nice enough to give me a recommendation for a place to find a banjo more suited for a noob like me.
J H
Place has a pretty cool set up. The inventory was low, but that’s to be expected right now. They didn’t have public restrooms for customers and when we went to leave the door was locked. The ladies up front said to just unlock it and if we could let more people come in. It’s not that I mind helping if they were super busy but there weren’t. If you’re going to lock the door, then they should have someone manning it to let people in and out. We shouldn’t have to do that.
Scott Gerlt
Loved it. Fun time playing vintage guitars that I would likely never spend the money on but now know what I have been missing. Pleasant staff.
Mike Moore
Had such an amazing time today at Carter!! Mr Carter took quite a bit of time today with me during my purchase of a Epiphone excelente signed by Waylon Jennings! Poncho also was awesome! He took the time and showed me several 6 figure guitars including letting me play one of idols Ed King ES 345 which they have on consignment! Great experience and they have a customer for life!!!
Paul
Mind-blowing selection of instruments. Bought a previously owned mandolin here. It was set-up perfectly. Staff was great and knowledgeable. Got a decent deal on it. They were willing to bargain enough with me that I walked away with a great instrument and felt good about it.
Crystal Metcalfe
Wow! What a selection of guitars! Everyone that worked there seemed to be knowledgeable of their guitars and friendly willing to help but not too pushy. They had lots of cool stuff to look at. Most everything my son played was in tune, he was able to plug in and play whichever guitar he wanted. Very cool place!
David Sager
There are so many guitars here 🤩
It's like being a little kid in a candy store. It's exhilarating! There were so many brands I did not recognize, and there are so many unique designs. One of the coolest things is the guitars that were played by famous people. Of course it'll be a while before I could pay 40K for a guitar, but they sure were pretty!
Ji Eun Kang
Amazing place! You must go there if you are in the Music City, Nashville. I just bought a strap and peaks. It's very hard to manage myself not to buy a guitar because I have to get back home Korea. Too far to take the beauty.
chip q
I have dealt with Carter Vintage in about every way a picker can. I have bought gear, traded, and sold things there. Walter and his staff have always been very kind to me.
Micheala Short
My husband had so much fun here. He saw guitars he's never heard of and enjoyed playing them to (:
Kaleb Nab
This place is really cool even if you want to just walk around. If you're a musician, you'll love this place. Everything is very cool and high quality so expect the price tags to reflect that. Regardless, go here and take a gander and the beauty and history and sounds. If you're a mandolin player, they have octave mandolins here!
Matt Habit
Great guitar shop. Love my new guitars I just bought. Great selection and they will ship them to you. You will have to pay shipping and local sales tax though. All around great experience.
David Spencer
Amazing guitar store. And everyone that works is extremely knowledgeable and always make you feel welcome.
Bo McDonald
What an amazing place full of incredible instruments... !
Virginia Freimarck
Have nothing but good things to say about Carter. My son love the 12 string got him, hasn't stopped playing!
Brad W
Great experience at Carter's Vintage this weekend - Esteban was incredibly helpful and courteous and helped me finish my transaction quickly and painlessly. I mistakenly left my ID on the counter during the purchase, and an employee named Mikaila (SP??) called me later that day and let me know that I could retrieve it and gave me the owners phone number to coordinate. Terrific customer service. Everything worked out and I am looking forward to receiving my guitar later this week. Thanks a bunch-
PS, the store is stocked with a wonderful selection of near New and vintage, and is a must visit for string players.
Sarah Peterson
The moment you walk into Carter Vintage, you will be awestruck by the large assortment of simply beautiful instruments. You’ll be greeted by Christie or Walter, who are quite possibly the most friendly and courteous people that I have ever met. They make you feel at home, and genuinely love what they do. If you’re looking for an exceptional experience and a beautiful instrument (they don’t have just guitars, they have mandolins, string basses, and more!), please stop by their shop - you won’t be disappointed! Definitely a must-see for music lovers!
Brad Mullins
I loved the place! Everything is a little on the pricey side, but there are a few once in a life time type items there. Like, for example, there are 5 of the same guitar amp heads, that used to be owned by Brad Paisley. That's pretty cool!
Kim Tank
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸It was AWESOME and we even got to see some music royalty in the mix. It was like guitar heaven. My two pickers loved the place. It was our first time in the store but definitely not the last. You know the old saying, How many guitars do you need.....Just ONE more🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 …
Perry Martin
This place is incredible. Never have i been to a store with such an incredible selection. Staff is knowledgable and pleasant. The selection can stem from an inexpensive tele for $300 to $40k for a Martin acoustic. Amps are a slice from heaven. Pedal selection is also impressive. Bravo to Mr Carter!
Lenny Arnold
Unbelievable. Amazingly friendly staff, and an incredible selection.
Brad Joiner
Incredible store. An amazing selection of used and vintage instruments, all setup and well maintained. I was thrilled to find three 1930s Martin acoustics in their stock. They have guitars valued from 100 - 50,000+ dollars. Along with a slew of really nice mandolins, basses, double basses and banjos.
tony jack
Great staff. My review is mostly for the repair guys. They do excellent work, they treat every guitar the same. It doesn't matter if she is a 99 dollar Epiphone or a 5 thousand dollar Gibson. They handle everything with care and get the job done. I give 4 stars for the price. It's a little steep but you get what you pay for and at Carter's you get quality.
Jodi Wing
Wow! This place is any music lover's paradise. The staff are all very warm and friendly, happy to tell you all about any of their gorgeous instruments. Each one seems to have its own unique story, many with quite a bit of history to tell. The place feels very relaxed, beckoning you to sit and play a while to really get a good feel for your next purchase. They also have a great staff of repair specialists on site.
Rob Forest
wow ! My new favorite guitar store. Had so much selection! Great pricing and industry knowledge. I ended up finding the perfect sound and finish I had been searching for. Check it out!!!
Tim
Wow!
I was blown away by the guitars in there. Visiting from Las Vegas I had a wild hare to buy a guitar IN Nashville, bot lo, my budget didn't match these incredible vintage guitars.
Still a great experience that I shared with friends at home, and maybe someday the budget will be there.
Hands down the greatest assortment of vintage Fenders I've seen in my life.
Rusty Pugh
Mind-blowing collection of rare and vintage instruments, but a staff that treats every customer exactly the same...with genuine friendliness and courtesy. They will sell a $300,00 guitar to a rock star, but treat a regular guy like me exactly the same. No snootiness whatsoever. Very cool shop that rivals Norm's for sure.
Fred Arters
Carter guitars is amazing. Been drooling over the inventory online for years and finally made a trip to Nashville and got to go for real. Selection here is mind blowing. I kept worrying the staff would come by and say something about our non stop playing of everything we could get our hands on but they were fine with it. This place is the best.
j m
My absolute favorite, must visit as much as I can while in Nashville, store.
The staff are available, friendly, and knowledgeable.
The inventory is insanely plentiful, prices fluctuate depending on condition, model, vintage and rarity.
If you can't find something you want to take home with you, then you really aren't into guitars.
Marcus Leonardz
This is the SICKEST place ever!!!! First time in Nashville and was doing the tourist thing when I passed by on the way home and decided to stop. Almost wished I hadn't, as my green was kinda low and obviously couldn't afford anything but it was great seeing all the guitars I sometimes only see in magazines.
Steven Conner
The fact they have an incredible selection of acoustic and electric guitars and its pedal Nirvana is just the start here. Above and beyond that they have the nicest nicest group of people working there. I've bought 2 pedals from them and they've treated a middle age Dad Rocker like I was touring musician. The best.
Jordan Pieri
Very cool shop with lots of unique guitars, it was busy and they were understaffed when i went in but there was enough to look at to keep me occupied. Definitely worth checking out if you're a guitar nerd, they have a great used selection for pedals too!
BJ Gwalt
I’ve never seen such a collection of beautiful and rare guitars. And the friendly and helpful staff made it a nice “museum” visit.
One guy even took the time to look up a 1963 Ryder guitar I have, to give me more details about it.
And I was just buying a few guitar picks.
Otto Rascon
If you're in the market for a vintage guitar then this place is amazing. I played a Les Paul worth about $8k, as well as some of their acoustics. The staff was super cool and allowed me to play these guitars as if I was at a Guitar Center playing guitars worth in the low hundreds. I appreciated that.
Al Koenig
A very friendly and accommodating group of professionals. They made buying my dream guitar in Nashville so easy that I can't recommend Carters highly enough. They let me have all the time I wanted with my baby and a large selection of amps to audition it through.
Thanks for a great memory!
Disappointments Nashville
This store is dangerous! It doesn't get any better than Carter Vintage. Amazing selection of guitars and basses and the staff are all excellent!!! I happily forked over a nice chunk of change for my 2 Les Paul's. Worth every penny! ✌
Benton Pittman
Carter Vintage is a blast! Their selection is beyond fantastic! I went in yesterday looking to trade a couple guitars plus cash for something new and great. Paul and Adam were fantastic and extremely helpful and friendly. I went to other shops before stopping by and Carter Vintage offered me almost double for my trade than any other shop! They let me try as many guitars as I wanted, put me in a private room with some amps, it was fantastic. I finally settled on a nice Les Paul once Paul offered me an excellent deal on it. I am very happy with my experience and purchase at Carter Vintage. You probably won't find a better selection or a better deal anywhere else!
Zach Ovington
Carter’s is worth a trip to Nashville by itself. I am in need of “player’s” vintage or luthier guitars on a regular basis and in addition to high end collector stuff, there are always really cool working man’s instruments.
Baily Knight
5 STAR for Carter Vintage Guitars. Awesome shop, and great staff! The place has probably the best selection of pedals anywhere in town. Friendly, patient and just a truckload of great vintage guitars. Christie, Walter and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and hospitable.
HIGHLY recommended!
Sean Kerns
Always great seeing Mr. Carter, and Bo.
I travel from South Florida, twice a year, just to see one of the best selections of vintage used guitars, amps, basses, mandolins . . .
One of my top three in the country 👍 …
Kit Guy
Awesome selection, some of the most lust worthy electrics all in one location. Staff were friendly, managed to park without issue, but I could see it become a problem at times. If you are a guitar player you cannot miss this stop.
Samantha M.
This was a magical musical playground for my husband. If you want to see a great selection and also see your significant other become a child again you need to step inside this store. The staff are wonderful and encourage you to pick up an instrument and give it a try!
Dennis Hood
Great place to just look at hundreds of used many vintage guitars, bass, steel guitars, ukes and associated gear. Prices are generally fair considering the good condition and/or rarity of some of these instruments. Casual atmosphere with many customers showing their talents while testing out the gear. Enjoyable to shop or just visit.
MC 2
I needed a minor repair on my guitar and I was met by an enthusiastic tech named Dave. He went above and beyond with an assessment and a spontaneous repair of my old Yamaha acoustic. I am new to town, and after a bad repair experience in Old Hickory, I’m delighted. Thank you!!
Charles Daughtry
As far as vintage guitar shops go, it doesn't get any better than Carter Vintage. The inventory is incredible and the customer service is second to none. Christie and Walter and the nicest, most knowledgeable folks you'd ever want to meet.
HIGHLY recommended!
Calvin Coole
If I could give this place more than 5 stars...I would! I wish I could just live there. Got the best customer service I could ask for from Mr. Carter himself. I wouldn't dream of coming to Nashville without setting aside some time to visit this store. And here is a pro tip...don't overlook the selection of books available.
C M
One of the best vintage gear destinations in the US.
Jennifer Avey
Very pretty and whimsical mural. My daughter's name is June, so this was a must-see photo op.
Joseph Lipman
I've been dealing with Carter Vintage since they've opened. Walter and his staff and always treated me with the upmost respect every time I've gone in the store even though I am not anybody of importance. I recommend them as highly as possible. If you are in the market for a new instrument do yourself a favor and include them in your shopping list.
Easton N
This has to be one of my most favorite music shops I've ever been to. All of the instruments here are American-made with such high-quality. With American-made instruments, they were quite expensive, but you are allowed to play them as long as you want. I absolutely love Weber Octave Mandolin!!
Steven Rush
Fantastic collection of guitars, bass, and an vivid assortment of all other stringed dobros, mandolins & such. Really friendly folks are on hand to help out. Wonderful selection of straps and, while it was not a Franklin strap I found, (highly recommended btw), I did find a perfectlyatched strap I'd been hunting for. Always worth a visit when in Nashville!!!
Christiana Parham
The employees here are all very kind & allowed my boyfriend to plug in & jam on an eight grand Les Paul Gibson. He was in heaven & wanted everything in the store. Their collection is fantastic. It's a must see for any serious guitarist.
Michael Williams
Great space, lots of instruments other than guitars. Had a blast browsing and playing.
dgpnash picker
The instrument selection here is without rival! You can play stuff here that you only read about or see posted in some glamour shot on social media. It's almost surreal. My one and only complaint though is that it's always crowded so really studying over an instrument and deciding if it has just the right magic for you is pretty difficult. Oh and the strings are all kinda dead so you have to be able to imagine what it would sound like with fresh, new strings.
Work2Wander
I love this place becasue they treat me like a person.. dont try to sell me anything and have top notch guitars and amps as well as a grear repair staff. If i could afford a real job i would choose this place. Even though i was taking my guitar back to the Heritage factory in Michigan to get the tailpiece replaced they were extremely helpful in helping me sort out my options.
Tom Crawford
Wow, outstanding collection of instruments for the serious musician. A half dozen pedal steel classics, I've never seen that many in one spot. Row on row of high quality mandolins, banjos b bases and of course guitars. I could spend my entire inheritance in this place.... If I had one.
Shawn Jackson
I've been coming here for years , and I keep coming back because of all the awesome gear and service. I don't know how they do it, but they always have the coolest used guitars, pedals, and amps. And the staff have always been nothing less than friendly and helpful.
Keith Westcott
welcoming inviting and knowledgeable staff!
An asset in the music arts.if your visiting Nashville THIS store should be included on your itinerary,
I give my highest recommendation without hesitation !!!
John Zwicewicz
Iconic guitar store. A must visit in Nashville.
Jon
Hadn't been to Nashville in years so I researched several shops on the net, visited them all and found Carter Vintage the best. Purchased a PRS from Beau who I found professional, knowledgeable about gear, and friendly. Would recommend to anyone looking for quality instruments and gear!
Danny K
A wet dream of guitars, amps, pedals, mandolins. The selection is phenomenal from cheap to coveted instruments. Prices are reasonable.
Typical music store staff. Too busy or uptight to be helpful. Not sales driven, I'm assuming. I was one of ten people in the show room. I wanted to make an amp purchase but subsequently surfed reverb and Ebay and found a comparable deal, because I couldn't get help.
Bradley Layher
This place is incredible. It's also a tad overwhelming at times. Like giving a 5 gallon bucket of ice cream to a 4 yr old. Nevertheless, I was able to overcome my guitar gluttony by remembering I was an full grown adult and just enjoy playing some of the best sounding guitars you will ever hear. Everyone there was really wonderful to talk to and have a great story to share. These people reallllly love what they do.
Craig Arsenault
I worked with Drew for an on-line purchase of the '57 reissue Stratocaster. He was very professional and great to work with. He took the time to explain the condition of guitar and send me additional pictures. When I received the guitar it was exactly as described. I could not be happier with the purchase. Thanks!
Gatheringskies
If you're a guitar maniac as I am, this is one shop you won't wanna miss. From vintage quality stuff to modified old axes and new high end product, this shop got it all (Fender, Airline, Gibson, Nash, Yamaha, etc.).
Plenty of well sound proofed room filled with an assortment of amplifiers (5, 15, 30, 100 Watt) to try out guitars. Welcoming knowledgeable staff and prices in tune with the market. A must if you are a guitar player visiting Nashville.
Fogo Labs
I brought two friends in. Told them to keep their wallets in the car but they didn't listen. No regrets at all but the fleah is weak,,,, and life is good like that.
Billy Burke
Carter Vintage Guitars has a huge inventory of unique and boutique instruments alongside the industry titan's more distinctive offerings. I did not purchase an instrument on my recent visits but I was fully impressed by their comprehensive selection of just about everything they carry. I was shopping for a mandolin but it was hard to not be distracted by all the other guitars surrounding me. If I was going to criticize one thing it would be the lighting. It's definitely a showroom that is framing the instruments as they might appear on a stage. The problem is that, in the case of the high end mandolin rooms it was really hard to to read the logos on the headstock. There was an instrument that I wanted to hear a second time and simply could not find it because I just couldn't see headstocks of the top row of instruments. I didn't have time, nor did I want to handle all the instruments or bother with a sales person at that point.
john freeman
After two days of playing and putting down a 99 Taylor510, I waited to the final possible minute to make the buy decision. The staff was like this is totally a normal occurrence and made the purchasing experience special. Especially Brandon(?) sorry, he played left handed and was really helpful.
One week later I love my new setup.
Dan
Could Carter Vintage be the best musical instrument store in the world? It's certainly in the running. This is not a place to find your first guitar. Or even your second. There's not much in there for less than $1,000, and it's a fun game to try to find the most expensive item: on my last visit there was a 1950s Les Paul played by Waylon Jennings for $31,000, and a 1931 Gibson banjo for $28,500.
It may be the only store in the world where you can say, "I'm looking for a three-neck pedal steel" and the response is, "What color?" The point being when it comes to country, bluegrass, and blues instruments, they have just a truly fascinating collection.
Even if you're not a professional musician, it's a great place to visit. The staff is helpful and friendly, and you can play most of the instruments. If you're just a tourist and don't need to a pick a Frank Neat banjo made for Ralph Stanley (yep, they have that too, $7500), they've got stickers and knick-knacks.
Great place.
Ben Campbell-Murphy
I had a great time in this shop. The staff are super nice and set me up with everything I wanted to try. Great selection of guitars and amps. So happy with the guitar I bought. Thanks guys.
Ethan Mobley
Carter has an amazing selection of instruments, and it's just chock full of history. The staff are nice, and are happy to let you play most of the instruments (I haven't asked to play any of the Lloyd Loar F-5s or other 6-figure instruments) and answer any questions. The biggest issue, and it really took away from my experience, is that they do not setup or regularly restring the instruments. When looking at instruments of the quality, and price, they sell, it would be very nice to have them playing and sounding their best.
Chris Blankner
Just got a 1946 J-45 delivered by the Carter Shop. Justin, their floor sales associate was fantastic to work with from the day I stepped into the shop. Good people who allow you to fool around with any dream instrument on the wall. I'll be posting a photo of my new dream guitar and sending it on. Without a doubt it was a memorable experience.
Sue Liljenberg
My teen son did not want to leave. It was like he was a little kid in a candy shop. Beautiful instruments and friendly sales staff even on a busy Summer Saturday in Nashville!
Jakub Danielak
I was blown away by the sheer number of guitars up on display that you can just pick up and try. Lots of vintage and restored guitars. I could have spent all day here but my non guitar friends were getting restless so we left. Otherwise I might have talked myself into spending an obscene amount on a vintage guitar. So probably for the best. Anyway, if you're a guitar person, this is your place.
Zach White
Without doubt one of top guitar shops in the country. Eclectic selection without the snooty attitude. I come in at least once a month to get strings picks, setups, repairs, or other gear just to insure I do my part to help keep them around.
Brayden Yonts
Super cool environment with plenty on display. Not just guitars, of course, but may other instruments as well. With practice rooms, a nice environment, and clean facilities Carter Guitars is a guitar lovers dream!
Durelle Leaman
Go see the "Sweet Home Alabama" guitar.
Lots of guitars to pick up and play. Friendly, helpful staff. If you're going to Nashville to buy a guitar, definitely stop in here and have a sniff.
Lucas White
As a former employee I will give it to you straight up. You cant find better instruments and better customer service than provided there. Christie and Walter Carter are two of the smartest and nicest people you will meet in the world. Christie has tons of experience and connections on finding the guitar or any other instrument for you the player, the parent, the student, the collect, and the average day Joe. This is also a place to go listen to different kinds of acoustic music and alternative rock. they have a stage and a sound system, and when christie wants to throw a party she throws it! Go in or call and be happy with your next purchase and investment.
Brett Wolff
After a recent poor experience at a store local to me, I wanted to leave a review of a truly great store. I was in town for work, and I stopped by CVG on my first night in town. I honestly almost teared up when i saw all the incredible instruments OUT TO PLAY. You have to understand that where I am from this is NOT how the high end store is.
Staff person was helpful and friendly and we chatted about tonewoods and makers for a bit. Most of their super high dollar stuff is in the back, but they have a bunch of nice guitars from collings, santa cruz, martin, gibson etc. well up into the $10,000 range out for you to play. Definitely made me want to come back.
Carolina's Barber
A place every guitarist needs to visit at least once. A chance to play some incredible instruments you've only heard about but never held. Great prices, too.
John Slaughter
Spectacular inventory and customer service! Treated my 13 yr old like a king and answered all of our questions and were super patient with us/him. Keith made us feel like we were the most important customers in the store. We're retuning soon to do more shopping...its only 4 hrs away lol
They could get away with being pretentious considering their quality vintage inventory, but everyone, esp Keith, made it feel like a hometown business. Awesome place if you want a killer vintage guitar, amp , etc!! 5 stars all the way!
Edit: went back today (7/24/18) to trade a 2017 Gibson SG HP for and older, more vintage one my son fell in love with. Bo/Bow/Boe/Beau/Beaux/Bough was awesome! Understated but cool. Got a decent trade in value ( no $ departed from my pocket!) and allowed me to haggle some. Several employees recognized us from 1 visit from a week ago! Cool atmosphere and we'll definitely travel the 4 hrs for our next acquisition...if I can keep the kid under control! Got free stickers from cool chick at checkout, too...js
Doug Wurster
I am from New Jersy, came down here for a concert, and stumbled upon this great place! Walter and his wife were the nicest, honest, and friendliest down to earth people I've met in a long time. There store is filled with easily accessible and quality gear! I have never felt so comfortable in a guitar shop. When im ready to make my next guitar purchase, i Am placing my order through them PERIOD. Wish i lived in Nashville, so i can go in there EVERYDAY!!!
Teus Kappen
Friendly, patient and just a truckload of great vintage guitars. A but too pleasing though, when waiting for them too build in a pickup in an acoustic guitar, they said it would take about 30 minutes, which was more like two hours. Not a real problem, but some realism may contribute to the experience.
Stephanie Wurster
Amazing array of vintage and new guitars. Employees and owners are a pleasure to talk to. So warm and friendly. Let you play any guitars in their collection. Could spend hours walking around the store
Trip Taylor
Guitar nerd nirvana. Laid back place with some real rarities
Jeff Rodgers
I have no pictures to show because I was too busy picking my jaw off the floor. One of the coolest collection of vintage guitars I have ever seen.
Teddy Van Miller
Wow, what a place! Hundreds of top-quality guitars, lots of accessories, helpful staff. One of the coolest guitar stores I've ever been in.
Richard Bigwood
Guitar Nirvana in the heart of Nashville. Should be on bucket list of any guitar geek.
Jamie Page
Carter is a guitar institution for Nashville. It's absolutely filled to capacity with beautiful, rare, and well-maintained vintage instruments and amps. People come from all over the world to shop this store, and you can fully understand why when you begin browsing the place. If only I had the money to actually shop at Carter!
Adam Thomas
Don't write many reviews, but Lindz in the tech shop really went above and beyond for me, and just for a minor setup job too, not a major money maker. My guitar feels and sounds great - like my best hopes for it.
Aside from doing a bang up job on the setup, he took a good chunk of his time with me (more than was justified by the amount of money I was spending, really); he answered and asked a lot of questions, really spending time with me to get the setup they way I like it and to give me the confidence it was being left in good hands.
I was considering different pickup options and setup options aside from the setup adjustments, so he had me try a few guitars in the shop to get an idea of what I liked compared to what the current state of my guitar was. I was grateful for that, because I ended up liking my own axe more than I realized, actually.
As an added 'above and beyond'... I play 12's and I like a solid D string, which is very uncommon and they didn't have in stock, but he managed to get one for me before doing the setup.
Oh yeah, that in all than less than a 24 hour turnover, which again was above and beyond call of duty.
I only learned after the fact that Lindz is a heavyweight guitar tech for some of the top names in the biz, and makes beautiful custom guitars that look crazy-authentically vintage (it's spooky).
Now I just have to make an annual trip to Nashville for setups, ha!
Aside from being a converted big fan of Lindz, all the staff (Heather at the front desk, and others) were very cool and helpful and seemed content just to let me roam around and try things, but were also helpful asking questions and helping me get set up to play different guitars/pedals etc.
All this, and I wasn't spending thousands of dollars there either. They just treated me kindly and respectfully like any good customer might be treated, which is a rare jewel these days, it seems.
Cheers, Carter Vintage and Lindz! Thank you!
John Hoyt
Wow... Beautiful selection of instruments
Poisoned Pens
Fantastic buying experience from the internet. Personal service, questions quickly answered, speedy shipping and the best packing, bar none, that I have ever seen on a guitar purchase. A pro operation, with a personal touch.
Joseph N
I absolutely loved my expierence here. Buy something if it jumps out at you. I made the mistake of not doing so and the guitar was priced well below fair market value and played great. If reccomend this place to anybody that's into stringed instruments.
Kyla Ball
I love going to this place with my dad. We love looking around at all the beautiful guitars they have there! Everyone there is always so friendly and we always enjoy our time in there!
Paul Abell
My favorite guitar store in Nashville, hands down... Always top end vintage instruments and a vibe that fits the city. A must for any musician, local or visiting.
Patrick Neve
And impressive, almost daunting collection of acoustics and electrics. Prices range from beginner axe to straight-up collector status, but it's all out there on the floor side by side. Very inviting and friendly place.
Cameron Dyals
Best music store I've ever been in. Accidentally bought a Gibson ES-339. Staff was super nice. Hopefully will be back sometime to make another impulse purchase.
Paul Mulcahy
Beautiful store with beautiful instruments.I felt the store assistant I worked with could have been a little more forthcoming which made me think he didnt know or he didnt want to deal with me at that moment.
Blake Hanson
Never have I seen such a sea of quality vintage and just awesome guitars in one place. Go here before Guitar Center or...anywhere else if possible. Great selection of percussion as well.
Craig Larson
Hands down, the BEST guitar shop in town. I often hear of a couple other names thrown out as being great that I, myself, even used to go to often. One is on a "corner"... cough cough... Another starts with a G and then continues with RUhN (just take out the H)...
All jokes aside, the owner of Carters is a super nice guy. You can tell he has trained his employees to provide service and be friendly. Not be smug, rude, condescending, etc. Other stores are not only rude often, but they just dont have the same kind of amazing gear. This feels, AND IS, a players shop. Others are too stuck on theirselves and snide. Much too "retail," and "dont-touch-without-me-handing-it" type. This is THE PLACE TO GO.
Jonathan Carroll
Full of instruments I'll buy as soon as I win Powerball! Great inventory and helpful, friendly staff
Johannes Setiabudi
One of the best place to find rare and vintage guitars. Lots of gems and awesome guitars, bass, etc. I had to remove myself from the store ... or else I can spend all day in there.
Bruce Dickey
My favorite music store. Friendly, knowledgeable, and great selection of vintage gear. This place is one of my favorite spots in Nashville. Dig!
vwbeetle72jellybeen
This is a musician's Mecca! To hold these antique instruments and actually be encouraged to play them by the staff is a dream come true! Ancient "The Gibson," mandolins, gut-wrenching bass coming from an old Martin D28, and my daughter picking up a 60's era Stratocaster and jamming with me in the testing room was priceless! The staff, the inventory, and the choices are just what music city needs and has cherished for years.
Justin Weaver
The selection of guitars here varies from good to bad, but if you’re looking for vintage instruments you’ll love this place.
Dean Lutz (Groove Master)
I love this place. What an amazing Selection of Vintage Guitars.
Freddie W
Come and admire the guitars - they are breathtaking!
Jennifer Davidson
I don't play guitar but this is a place of beauty. The staff was so nice. They knew I was just there to take it all in and they welcomed me.
MT C
Im a drummer and really enjoyed checking out this shop. Huge showroom filled with beautiful instruments. Must see for any music lover who plays.
William Kitchens
Wonderful atmosphere and super friendly staff. The history of these vintage instruments and amps are respected but presented for what they are.. tools to be held and played.
daniel savage
Got some bucks burning a hole in your pocket? They have the vintage guitar you've been coveting since high school. And probably more than one. But these are more likely vintage than used. Plus, go on a weekday and they will set you up with the proper vintage amp in a separate room. And play just about anything in the shop. You know you need it.
Ward Starbird
Cool inventory and helpful staff.
Jacob Pawelczyk
Wide selection of very interesting and unique guitars and other instruments. Very fun to visit and shop for some unique pieces, or just to see what they have in inventory at any given time
Mike Z
A must visit when in Nashville..
Great selection of new and pre owned vintage guitars and amps.. very knowledgeable and friendly staff.. Excellent repairs of all equipment
Sam Elliott II
Very nice vintage music store. Great selection of Bluegrass instruments. Friendly, and helpful staff. Many other genre instruments available too.
karen c
I bought a banjo yesterday from Carter Guitars and took it home but found that it just wasnt quite the sound I was hearing in my head. I called them the next day and let them know. I wasnt sure what to expect but they never gave me even a hint of the "sorry...too late" routine. They had another banjo ready to go when I showed up. Walter even put 2 new railroad spikes in for me at no charge. I love my new banjo! And I am very glad I purchased it from CVG. Will definitely be back!
Steve c

When you enter the store it is overwhelming... But, in a fantastic way! It was my first time there. It is worth checking out even if you don't need anything
James Wilson
Great service and really friendly staff. Found exactly the pedal I was looking for. Cant wait to go back.
Bill Burke
Fun store. Lots a strats and Les Pauls. Lots of acoutsics. You'll be there a while! You can play. Sales people are great. Also have picks, pedals, strings, t shirts. Near downtown Nashville, TN.
Cade Johnson
The selection of guitars is just absolutely stunning. I highly recommend this store. So, so impressed! Thank you Carters!
grogers333
My previous trip to Nashville, my friend and I went to Gruhn's and each bought vintage Gibsons. This trip we discovered Carters. I didn't think Gruhn's could be beaten. Now I am not so sure. Every aspect of the experience at Carters was outstanding. Never did I feel pressure from a salesman but I always knew they were nearby. I'll be back!
Did I mention we each walked out, Gary got another Gibson, mine was a Martin this time. What can I say, the guitars insisted.
Arthur Fredericks
Awesome collection, great place to check out various stringed instruments, particularly vintage ones. They have drums as well, staff were friendly and helpful.
Matthew Ryan
It is like a candy store for guitarists, mandolin and banjo players. Friendly staff encourages you to play these fine instruments. What a joy.
Kahna Wentzel
On a scale of 1 to 10, I seriously put this at a 10. The selection is remarkable, gorgeous pieces, wonderful people. I will be back to visit this musicians paradise very soon! Greetings from Houston!!!
Molly Wallen
Impressive selection, great staff. Be sure to check out the smaller room in the corner for some truly amazing vintage guitars.
Kate Bredbenner
This place has a MASSIVE collection of guitars. Some of the most beautiful instruments I've seen. Plus you can touch and play them all regardless of price.
Karen Swenson
Top notch service and repair for reasonable pricesr, excellent staff. Cannot comment on instruments for sale, but Carter's has a far-reaching top notch reputation among professional musicians.
Andrew Cushen
Great selection of vintage guitars, pedal steels, mandolins, amps etc. Was much more impressed by the inventory here at Carter than at George Gruhn's, though that may partly be luck
robert beymer
Amazing store along with amazing staff! Very low key with the best collection of guitars I have ever seen.
Laurie McClain
Love my vintage Gibson guitar, my main guitar now... Walter & Kristi and everyone who works for them are very kind and knowledgeable, laid back... Authentic music loving vibes abound.
Scott Wenthe
I bought a vintage telecaster here on my way through town. I found a few issues with it once I got it home but I might buy another guitar from them in future.
Laura Ewen
Seriously going to give Gruhn's Guitars a run for the money. Seems to be a younger, professional crowd in here. Beautiful inventory and really nice people to talk shop with.
Pius Jungblut
I was looking for a Telecaster, made in the US. Paul looked at me 2 seconds and picked out the perfect guitar for me. Thank you for the great service and advice!

Howard Gotfryd
Amazing selection of vintage and new stringed instruments. Everyone there is pleasant as a spring day and happy to talk guitars, banjos, mandolins, at your pleasure.
Kay Tribble
Didn't buy anything but they do have some cool vintage items...Skynard guitar, 1953 Fender amp, and a gift from Hank Williams.
Ryan Knowles
Classic place, great vintage guitars and amps, and they will actually let you play them rather than hanging them fourteen feet up on the wall.
Gilbert Segovia
If you're a fan of vintage guitars, a trip to Nashville must include a visit to this place. A great selection of accessories, too.
DeeJay Bundst
I felt like a kid on a candy store except the candy was expensive and full of history. I can't really think of an apt candy metaphor for when you get to play one of the guitars...after all, you can't just sample a candy and put it back...
Tony Cochran
A staple guitar shop on Nashville a must visit for pickers. Great place and very nice staff.
Allan Jenkins
Great selection of guitars; busy during lunch time!

Extraordinary selection of vintage guitars and effects. I really liked how many guitars there weren't just the generic Fender/Gibson/Gretsch collection you at at similar stores
Jim Thornton
Very cool place. I would give it 5 stars, but I was hoping to run into Peter Frampton there and I didn't. Awesome stuff. New and vintage.
