We walked in with a twenty year old Fender mandolin, which had been abandoned in our church choir room; we wanted to repair what we had to in order to donate it to a musician or student who needed an instrument. The owner quickly connected it to an amp and ascertained its wiring was fine. He looked at the strings and said that we should reset the action. This adjustment would be at the bridge and was not an issue of the neck, so this too was good. We left in good hands and look forward to picking it up soon, and the cost was very reasonable. The store is a rare treasure trove of CDs all for $3 apiece. I walked out with two rare CDs featuring Clarence White and the Kentucky Colonels! Banjos and acoustic guitars are on the wall. If you're looking for an instrument or for an adjustment/repair, this is the place. Nice ambiance and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

The best little music shop on earth.
Friendly staff, great selection of both modern and vintage equipment. They are a wealth of information and have always helped me get things dialed in. They're even willing to offer luthier advice if you're willing to try fixes on your own.
I've been buying my strings here for a good year now, and stopping in for about the last 6 years. I've always loved the feel and have never been disappointed by selection. I will never shop the big box stores. Picking parlor first, Groth second, and if they don't have it I'll go to sweetwater (I only go to Guitar Center to bang on the acoustics ;D)
I can not wait until they start hosting jams again, I never had the chance to attend one in the past and the acoustics of thier small sitting room are pretty incredible!

A really classic place. I'm sad I didn't know it was there before. Went in for some repair work in a banjo. They had it done in a day and workmanship was fantastic. The guys there are incredibly knowledgeable and even helped me find a couple great books with new music. They took me directly to them, knew their inventory and put great stuff in my hands. Wonderful little shop.

Cozy spot with nice folks and lots of folk instruments!
Mandy Kephart
They were immensely helpful getting my teen son started with his first acoustic guitar. We will definitely be returning for all of our acoustic needs!

I just drove up here from 40 miles away only to find they are closed. I edited the hrs on Google Maps to the correct times, which is 10:00 AM - 5:00 AM Mon. thru Sat.
I will give you guys 5 stars when I'm back to buy a banjo....when you're open. Please update your hrs when they change next time. Thanks!

I took my OM/000 in to address some fret buzz that Twin Town barely tried to fix (saying “all guitars will have some level of buzz to them”). Homestead took a little time to actually get to the guitar because it’s a small shop, but they easily fixed it. My new go-to place for repairs/setups.

Best acoustic music store in the Twin Cities. This place is a gem. Lots of cool instruments, music, accessories. They have a fantastic staff, and once you purchased your new instrument, they have professionals to teach you how to play it.
John Walker
This is a nice place that focuses on acoustic string folk instruments such as guitars, banjos, dulcimers, ukuleles, and mandolins. They also have lessons and jam sessions. We sat in on one of the bluegrass jam sessions. They were very welcoming.
John Bennett
A rare gem, this folk music store and school is a warm parlor on a snowy night, a cool breeze on a sultry eve. If the personable staff doesn't have what you want, they'll show how to make it, order it or create a workaround. Vinyl, disc, sheet, instruments and lessons.

didnt know this place existed. 4 stars because they have open bluegrass jams among other types. something that needs to be offereded in more places! lots of bluegrass and folk music. however it could use a lot of organizing and cleaning the place up. looks like it hasnt been renovated in years
Dave Gus
Great place to buy, trade, repair or learn to play an acoustic instrument. Lots of jams for all kinds of instruments (even a monthly dulcimer jam) and ability levels.
Mark Christman
A 40 year-old labor of love, advertisements inside toute The Great supremacy of CDs as an audio format. Lots of printed music for various skill levels, as well as new and used instruments They seem to know their stuff and were very helpful.
Matt Leeder (Dirty)
It's definitely a different place. I stayed there for about 20min then I went back out to my friends car. It's definitely a tiny place. If you're into Bluegrass music and the instruments, this could be the place for you.
Chuck Leyda
One of the few family owned music stores left. It's a gem of a place with friendly knowledgeable staff and lots of interesting musical stuff including acoustic music by local musicians that you won't find anywhere else.
