I showed up about 15 minutes before closing time. The staff was very curious and I were instructed to take my time. I found a guitar almost immediately and took it up to purchase. They asked me if I wanted to play it first, handed me a cord, pick and tuner. I played it on one of the amps sitting out on display. I finally decided to make the purchase. The salesperson was informative and didn't show any sing of rushing me out the door, although I'm sure they were ready to lock up by the time I left. I felt they did a very good job and made me fell at ease. Now on the downside, the guitar was a bit beat up. This is one of the problems of buying off the rack at any store. I'm sure that at the price point of the guitar I bought, they turn them around quickly. I would recommend coming up with a better way to control customer's abuse to the equipment. All said and done, I'm very pleased with Sam Ash.

I've been going to Sam Ash for quite some time and have always had a great experience. But recently I have been in here QUITE a bit getting various pickups, strings, hardware, etc. for a project guitar I've been working on. Everyone here is super friendly, very knowledgeable, and most importantly...they have not been bothered by me constantly bugging them about this stupid project! Thank you Riley and Grandon for all your help! My awful 25 year old knock-off Strat actually plays, sounds, and looks good now, and it's a respectable guitar again because of all the things I bought from them! (Along with waaay too much work on my part...) I can do basic setups, swap parts, and rewire electronics...but when I have a guitar that is just making me angry, Grandon is always there to save the day when I don't want to deal with working on it. The sales staff are all players, you're not getting a Best Buy style salesperson that knows nothing about what they're selling. If you come in knowing exactly what you want, there is still benefit in talking to them to get their opinions! And if you don't know what you want, they are all able to get you pointed in the right direction. And of course, it goes without saying, they are all super friendly. If I'm ever buying anything guitar-related, I come here first, no question. It's a much better experience than going to Guitar Center, where they tell you things like "yeah that Orange Micro Terror is just not loud enough to keep up with a drummer"...as I'm literally holding in my hands an Orange Micro Terror that I used THAT SAME WEEKEND to play at the Melody Inn downtown. With a drummer. When the volume was like on 3/10. And ironically, that amp was purchased at Sam Ash.

Staff answered some questions I had about guitar pedals and helped me decide what I was looking for. Plenty of staff there to answer your questions which is important. Also a wide variety of affordably priced guitars. I was honestly impressed by pricing of quality equipment. I don't see why I'd go anywhere else to shop for music needs moving forward.

I don’t know the last time I’ve been to this store but wow! It’s huge! They have everything. I had been looking for Spire Studio for a Christmas present and they had one left. It was $100.00 cheaper than Amazon so I rushed over to get it. Talked to “Z” and he held it for me. Great guy and extremely helpful with all my questions on other goodies. I’ll definitely be spending more time at this store. Shout out to “Z”. Thanks for your help!

Great Selection Of Music Equipment New And Used. Fair Deals On Used Items. Very Helpful Staff, I Never Had A Bad Experience In Sam Ash. Definitely One Of My Favorite Music Stores. Peace And Prosperity.

I went in to try out a Seagull or Zaeger guitar - was specifically wanting to try something with a wider nut for my large hands. Zach at the Guitar section was extremely helpful. They did not have Seagull or Zaeger but he was happy to give me several models that did have wider nuts. He also gave me a lot of information on low action, high action, types of guitar strings for acoustic guitars. I came away very happy and I will definitely be taking my Martin to them for restringing with a full service package where they check the tone and other qualities of the guitar.

I really appreciate the staff at Sam Ash, especially in the Woodwind department. I recently purchased a played Saxophone and I was highly satisfied. All the pads seal well and there was little wear for a vintage Saxophone. Vito( really a YAS-23) as they were manufactured by Yamaha. I will definitely make this my music shop as others done cater to a wide variety of musical instruments.

Grandon did an excellent job installing electronics in my acoustic guitar. He recommended the best solution for my guitar, taking the time to educate me. Was friendly, explained everything as he was installing the unit, and most importantly, my guitar can now be plugged in and it sounds great. What's more he adjusted the neck and the action so the guitar plays better than when I brought it in. Well worth the $50 installation charge. Go see Grandon -- he's excellent!

I don’t normally leave reviews for stores like I am right now but, I am new to guitar and I was waiting at the Guitar Center 5 minutes away from this location to spend 10 dollars above retail for a shorter cord than I was originally planning to get. As I waited to talk to someone for about 15 minutes I looked online to see if there were any other stores close and found this place. Sam Ash had the length cord I wanted at retail price (cheaper than the price GC wanted for the shorter cord) and the staff was friendly and helped direct me towards other products I asked about and answered all of my questions. I will definitely be coming back for all of my music needs as I go forward in my guitar journey.

I had a wonderful experience at Sam Ash music store. I stopped in to ask a few questions regarding a trumpet I had purchased elsewhere. In checking out the instrument, the salesman noticed a ring was missing and offered to repair it right then at no cost. They also smoothed my mouthpiece. I ended up purchasing an additional instrument. Very impressed with service, will definitely be back, even though it is an almost 2 hr drive!. Highly recommend!

Called in over the phone to purchase a used instrument. Clerk who first answered the phone was polite and helpful. Quickly transferring me to the proper department, once connected I was able to speak to Riley. Probably the best thing to happen, she was very polite, very knowledgeable and very patient with me as we went through the ordering process. Ordering took a bit longer than expected due to some logistics with shipping to other stores, but Riley was determined to make sure I was able to get through the purchase. Although it was close to their closing time, I was never made to feel rushed or like they did not want to speak on the phone any longer. Holds were very brief. Riley and her Managers on site 9/1/21 were extremely helpful even up to almost 30 minutes after closing! Would recommend this location to any buyer be that in person or over the phone. Thank you. 😊

I have a service plan on my Taylor guitar. Once about every 3 months I take it in for the setup. It just keeps it adjusted and in top playing condition. Humidity, humidity, humidity. It's wintertime in Indiana , monitor your instrument humidity levels, and have it gone through by a professional!!

They were most helpful and friendly. I was looking for a Wooden Frog Music Instrument for my Special- Needs Grand-Daughter, without any luck. The store that I was shopping at in Indianapolis did not have that item. The Manager called a Chicago store, found the Frog and had it shipped to me. It will make my Grand-Daughter's Christmas! She is using her Music Teacher's Frog in her lessons and loves him.

I had a 10 year old Baby Taylor set up from scratch. They fixed the popping frets and installed little leather buttons between the body and the strap attachment points to protect the wood. The action was lowered with a shim and it sounds great for a tiny little guitar. The new Elixer nanoweb strings also make is sound better. I am giving this to my kids so they can start playing around. They keep getting it out of the case, and putting it back gently. It is nice to see the appreciate the guitar and to have it set up for a reasonable price. Thanks Luthier Dude!

He said that he didn’t have it in the store but would check his warehouse that was next door and call me back in a few minutes. He called back and had it went down picked up came home installed it sounds great very happy. Absolutely fabulous experience shopping with Sam Ash. I was shopping on their website for used equipment and found a guitar that I liked. I was able to purchase it completely online. Sam Ash takes the time to provide multiple beautifully detailed photographs of each used item and a detailed description of the item with all used equipment. I took the time to call the store let them know I bought the guitar and they were so nice they went out of their way to make sure the guitar was in good playable condition before they shipped it. and even though the salesman I talked to on the phone was not the one who sold me the guitar, since I bought it online, he took ownership of the sale and then followed up with sending me an email letting me know if there was anything else I needed help with or any concerns with the guitar to feel free to contact him. So the selection was great, customer service was so so. The kid who helped us up was fairly young, teenaged probably and wasn’t super helpful when we had a few questions but I mean he is working for probably min wage (apparently not commission lol) so I can’t completely blame him. I will say the prices were excellent, much cheaper than the same items online. All in all we have bought all of our instruments and accessories at Sam Ash and will probably continue to do so. We will just probably do some research before hand next time and not rely on the expertise of the employees there.

I ordered two used 32lb passive speakers and in a couple days, despite their weight, they arrived in perfect condition due to diligent care in packing and huge amounts of bubble wrap. The speakers were a great deal but the after- sale service was phenomenal. I expect to continue as a customer and will recommend Sam Ash and especially the Indianapolis store to my musician friends.

Generally good guys. Though had a negative experience recently. Was trying out an amp I was interested. I turned it up moderately loud to see how it sounded at stage level (small, 18 watt amp). All the staff were fine with that as I was about the only person in the area. Sales kid comes over and asks me in a rude way if I'm going to buy it. He then starts to turn the volume down without explanation. To answer his question I just said "not now" and left. Perfectly good way to screw up an easy sale. Going to buy the amp online now.

Great store! Great selection! Great staff! Stopped by while on a short trip with son who wanted to make a purchase but wasn't sure what he wanted. He was able to try out multiple instruments, with staff offering assistance all the way, yet giving him space and time. All questions were answered and he had help making the final choice of a beautiful 7-string Jackson. Great pricing - super customer service. Although we are from out of town, we'll be back.

This review is for guitar tech Grandon Westlund - simply THE BEST guitar tech in Indy! I drive from Greenwood (past two GC's, where I've had poor service, and even had to ask for a refund due to that poor service), but finally found Grandon at Sam Ash and now both my acoustics, and electrics are never a concern regarding setup, always perfect, which is important since I gig weekly and do a lot of picking high on the neck, he keeps them perfectly set, making soloing as easy as my electric. He's worth the drive for me, and I guarantee if you're used to using the other store, you'll see a definite improvement in your gear immediately with Grandon! Thank you for your dedication and helpful info about my gear!

I’ve been here many times. Spent more than I ever should’ve probably. I’ve bought a 2018 Gibson SG Special and a Standard from here. Overall great staff. Memphis is usually the guy to go to if you’re looking for some new gear. They pretty much have never let me down there. Staff is pretty interactive which is awesome in my opinion. Nothing like talking gear to another person. If I ever need another guitar or pedals for that matter because they have A LOT. I’m not the biggest pedal user except for sometimes when I use the basics. They set up their guitars almost perfect from their tech guy who I can’t remember the name of right now. Very relaxing place to be at too, doesn’t matter where you start out at on an instrument. Always a treat to visit.

I was in the Indy location yesterday as part of my weekly hunt for the perfect guitar. I bought a Jackson several weeks ago but once home I just wasn’t thrilled with it. I worked with Scott on this guitar and although disappointed to hear of my returned guitar he completely understood and offered to help me continue to look for the right one or possibly two guitars. So four weeks later I show up again yesterday and am working with Shawn who is a guy that has always stopped to visit with me each time I come in for the past four years I have lived here. He is a great guy and even though I only know him from Adam Ash I consider him a friend. Today was the day I spent several hours playing different guitars and worked a deal on two of them with Shawn and Scott. This is a shout out to these guys and the time spent on helping me find the right guitars not just any guitars for a quick sale. I have been in to this store countless times and I have never been treated poorly. I am always welcomed to the store and asked if I need help upon arrival. Shawn has always recognized me and stopped to visit and offer assistance as needed. He is an absolute asset to Sam Ash so don’t lose him! Thanks again guys.

The store has a very large selection of instruments, most new, some used: guitars, electric basses, amplifiers, and more as well as percussion, horns, and recording equipment. My wife and I bought a new Strat, amplifier, and accessories for our grandson for his college graduation. The young man who helped us was knowledgeable, pleasant, and patient. Excellent! What more can I say?! 10-13-21......I visited to sell a guitar and whereas I did not receive as much as I had hoped for, the overall experience was great. People were very nice to work with...the kind of experience that makes you want to go back. 12-04-21.....have had repair work done on my SG this week.....really enjoy working with Grandon, your extremely knowledgeable and helpful guitar tech. This has been a 5-star experience! 12-09-21.....Picked up my guitar again today after my 2nd repair was complete. Took it home and was I ever impressed! SG is now a beast after complete electrical overhaul.....I swear I could blow the walls down! And, the sound is tremendous......on 12-10-21 I picked up the phone, called Grandon to thank him for his excellent work. As I explained to him, so many of us in business never get thanked and I could not let this good work go unrecognized. Thanks again! 7-08-22...Picked up guitar yesterday....had Grandon install bridge pickup on my SG. It has now been totally overhauled since I purchased it 7 years ago. Calling it a beast does not fully describe it. Once again, Grandon did an excellent job and I can't believe how well it plays!

Service was good, except they could not find the item I ordered in their backroom, had to wait about 30 minutes before they could come up with it. Also noticed prices were higher, had I not been pressed for time I would have went a couple blocks down the street to Guitar Center. Plus, they want to charge $10 for a box to ship a guitar! What kind of service is that?

I took my taylor in for a tune up and neck reset. I was told it would take 10 to 14 days (which was totally expected) 8 days later the luthier called me to tell me it was done and what all he did. It plays like a dream! Price was good and service was great.

Awesome customer service! Colin was patient, experienced, informative, and took the time to show the available instruments and needed accessories. Will definitely return to Sam Ash for future purchases. Prior to going to Sam Ash, I had visited another local music store that was recommended by my instructor. The staff at the unmentioned store were very rude, I waited over twenty minutes in their store before I was even acknowledged, and when I asked questions about different instrument sounds and finishes I was told "Oh, they are all the same". Needless to say, I will never return there. Sam Ash will be my first and only choice for music stores.

Sam Ash customer service is Awesome! We’ve bought two instruments for our daughter there over the last two years, including a marimba and the team there helped us above and beyond through the whole process. They researched the best instruments for the price, matched other retailers pricing, and George even came in on his day off to put the marimba together. He took the time to show our family how to take care of the instrument over time, transport it, and went over techniques our daughter could use when playing this model. He even helped load it into our vehicle. You can really tell how much knowledge George had about the instrument and how much he cared. We had a similar experience purchasing an acoustic guitar there last year. Being family owned and the team they’ve put together, you can tell Sam Ash cares about it’s customers. To top it off the management is 10,000x more personable than the guitar center nearby. Amp selection is hit and miss, most all of it will be used. Their return policy is solid, I've had to use it with no problems and they ship replacement parts to your house for free if another isn't on hand. ++

I was in the middle of mixing some vocals of a most amazing singer I am recording for my album when one of my studio monitors blew up. I went to Sam Ash and was greeted by Cameron Robertson who showed me some incredible Samson speakers that were head and shoulders above my old Alesis speakers. They were floor models and he made it worth my while. His manner was incredibly cheerful and confidence building as I was a bit dubious about not being able to purchase brand name speakers at a reasonable price. But when I got home, BAM, that chicks vocals shined and my violin sparkled through those speakers in a way I had never experienced. Just yesterday I was in the kitchen preparing dinner and swore she was singing along with the track, but it was the Samsons replicating her sweet voice so perfectly. These guys are not ones who are trying to push sales at the cost of a poor experience. I've been here a couple of times over the past few weeks and each time then gave genuinely wanted to listen to my needs, give me advice, and have me try some things out in the store - as long as I want - until I make a decision. This experience is wildly different than their main competitor up the road who frankly gives off the impression of not caring about their customers at all and adopting a Wal Mart type of business model, which is sad. Super impressed with customer service! Walked in for guitar strings and a torque key for my drums. The guy over in acoustics went with me to the drum room after getting me my strings and helped me find the torque key. Note, this guy was clearly super busy working on another guitar when I walked in and asked where stuff was, but he dropped everything to help me. When my key broke 2 days later, they replaced it for FREE with no questions asked. I will definitely be shopping here more often now and I would recommend it to anyone who plays instruments or sings as a place for supplies! Blows Guitar Center's customer service out of the water entirely. Well worth the drive too.

The AshRock experience is exceptional. This is where they place you in a band and have a professional musician facilitate the bands practice and gigs. They provide the practice facility and the majority of the gear. Preston Nash is the Sam Ash employee that drives this program. He does an exceptional job and is great to work with. Hard place to review just because of the fact that there are two extremes to this place. I walk in and they have everything that I could possibly need so very well-stocked music equipment and books I found an associate and asked for information which they quickly gave me found the book I needed got to the register and then ended up waiting 10 minutes should be checked out. So they're anxious to help you and stocked with everything you need but not so quick to let you leave. So all in all if you got a few minutes to spare definitely recommend this place if you're in a hurry you might want to pop somewhere else

So it's a nice place. It's a good feeling to still find a music store. Just one complaint guys. I have easily been in there a good 15 times the past 2 months. When they are busy it's pretty hard to get any help, which is understandable. The last three times I was in there though there was literally nobody in there. I walked around for like 10 minutes with several items in my hands searching for someone to check me out in a huge store with nobody in it they couldn't even get me checked out. I had to damn-near begassociate to check me out. I was with my father at the time it made him mad I'll still come back but they need to work on this

In Indy we have a Sam Ash and a Guitar Center more or less right next to each other. On more than one occasion I have visited both on the same day. At GC it seems like no one is interested in helping you. And if you can get someone flagged down, usually what you're looking for is out of stock. On the other hand, at Sam Ash, every time I walk in someone greets me at the door and helps me find what I'm looking for. And the sales people are friendly. No guitar snobs(you know the type). I have never walked into a Sam Ash looking for something specific and left without it. My only complaint(and it's a minor one) is that it's hard to find supplies for left handed guitar players(thumb picks, nuts, etc.) but that could be applied to any music store. Sam Ash is where I go if I need music gear nowadays. I don't even bother with GC anymore.

Never had a problem here, in the 7 years I've known about the store. They have band/orchestra instruments as well, somewhat rare in Indianapolis, but there is my problem. The violins are just about all Chinese in origin with Italian and German names as the manufacturers. Similar products can be found across the board which makes me wonder about their guitars, percussion, etc. I love the music selection as, once again, it contains more than just "rock band" instrument selections.

New guitar tech Grandon did an AMAZING job setting up my custom-built guitar. Full set-up including re-crowning compound radius frets and shimming neck, this guitar plays better than it ever has before! He also discovered an issue with the electronics that were improperly configured when I had new pickups installed at the local GC, which caused obvious sound issues that should have been caught by GC. Great to have a tech that really knows what he is doing and does top-quality work.

Went in looking for a particular Takamine (GD51CE-NAT)...they didnt have it in stock so I rolled the dice and had it ordered in. It arrived in PERFECT shape, needed tuned but that was it. BIG hats off to James!! The guitar is finished impecably, neck was perfect ( for me, anyway), the fit and finish is superb. I ran it thru the paces, both plugged in and unpluged. The sitka spruce top and black walnut sides and back result in very well balanced tone, and is just beautiful! I cant recommend Sam Ash enough in general, and James in acoustic guitars in particular....This store has a customer for life!

I went in to SA and Memphis spelled it out like the Pro that he is and sent me on my way with the Fishman Aura.Memphis knows I’m not real techy and said to go w something simple. I used it that same night at a festival and I was blown away. He hit it out of the park. It was plug and play and the sound engineer commented on how great my Hummingbird sounded. I will say the Gibson Hummingbird already has a great pickup in it but I never loved what I heard in my wedge but now, WOW! The Fishman Aura blew me away. Memphis freaking nailed it.
