Friendly and knowledgeable staff! I will be beginning a new venture of learning
the viola, and Katie and RJ were very helpful and thorough with getting my viola set up to play.

We looked all over when it was time to upgrade my daughter from her student cello. We had cleaned out southeast Michigan in our price range (took home over a dozen cellos to try). Then we headed north. GRV had an instrument with some play and patina to it that sounded absolutely beautiful, and even brought it down to stay in our budget. Wonderful shop and very professional. No pressure sales. All around great experience.

The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. Their services seemed reasonably priced and the turn around was quick. I was very please with the sound quality they were able to achieve with my cello. If ever I need another tune-up I know where I'm going!!

I was very pleased with my experience at Grand Rapids Violins, LLC. I had quite a bit of work completed on my violin and all of it was done with exceptional care, artful expertise, and excellent customer service in a short period of time. I would highly recommend working with Matt Noykos. My bow re-hairs are the best I have experienced in my career thus far. Matt also gave great advice, guidance, and an insight into his techniques that helped me understand the processes he used to reach optimum sound quality in adjusting my sound post. Wonderful work!

It is not recommended to approach this building uninvited or without an appointment. Maybe it was the way I was dressed. I had come directly from work, a wood shop that specializes in products with a quality and artisanship not unlike their own. So yes, I was covered in sawdust perhaps, in a t-shirt and jeans splattered with dried paint and urethane, most certainly. The door was locked (during business hours) but someone came to let us in, albeit with an air of "who are you to come unannounced?" I should have apologized and left right then but we were invited in. We were interested in purchasing a new violin here, on the recommendation of my son's private lesson instructor and wanted to get some information, check them out. We were in the neighborhood and I hate making phone calls. Why not just pop in and talk to a real person? Well, we received said information but in a very condescending manner. They would not even consider us until we were accompanied by our instructor (which is understandable but in the context of the entire visit felt like a slap in the face). We were handed invisible violins off a shelf twice, told that they were very expensive and that they don't just sell them to whoever walks in the door on a whim. It felt like they were trying to scare us away, that we were trespassing, taking up their valuable time. As it happens, we were very aware of the process and costs, having purchased instruments in the past, and didn't appreciate being treated as if we not only could not afford them but didn't know the process. A little respect goes a long way. If they had just said at the onset that they only speak to people by appointment then I would have gladly made that appointment right then and there, rather than being shown into a back room and schooled about what they won't do for us until we go through the proper channels. I will not be returning to purchase here.
