I live in Ohio and l was in the market for a harp. Vermont Violins came through. The selection is good and the customer service even better. They have top quality harps to choose from and they answered all my questions, quickly. Vermont Violins walked me through the entire process. I will be buying from them again!

Oliver was fantastic. Saw me right away and took care of my violin. Grateful for this shop and wish them all the best!

Great customer service and prices! When the violin case I chose as a gift was out of stock and shipping was delayed as with so many other things right now, Oliver kept me posted about the delays, and offered alternative suggestions about cases if we didn't want to wait. The case actually arrived sooner than they predicted. Will definitely shop here again.

I went to Vermont Violins with the original intention of dropping my bow off for a rehair. Since I live about three hours away, I decided that "while I'm here, I may as well have a look around." I tried a couple of violins, one which I absolutely fell in love with and ended up taking home. I dealt with Kathy and Oliver, and I found them both to be very friendly and helpful. Even though I am very much a beginner, Kathy was very encouraging and even gave me a couple of contacts in my area for people I might be able to learn from. Overall very impressed and very happy that I made the trip!

"We've been part of the instrument rental program with Vermont Violins for more than 8 years, and we've been so pleased with the instruments, the customer service, and the value. Our daughter rented her first viola from Vermont Violins at age 7. As she grew, the staff at Vermont Violins helped ensure she had the right instrument for her size and playing level. We live in Savannah, Georgia, but the distance was not an obstacle. We even had to utilize the insurance program once (whoops!) and the experience was hassle-free. One of the best aspects of the program is that you build equity with each rental payment. Now that we are ready to purchase an instrument for our daughter, we have substantial equity to apply toward a purchase. I have nothing but good things to say about the people and the products at Vermont Violins and I highly recommend their rental program."

Just visited their West Lebanon location and had a really great experience. Oren was thoroughly helpful and kind, even after I described myself as “whatever the term is for a novice who’s never even touched the instrument”. Advised me on my options and got me set up with a rental in no time. Thank you.

We rented a viola for one of my children and was impressed with not only the quality but also the excellent service by Oren, Kathy, and Oliver. I would highly recommend them!

I find staff always friendly and attentive at Vermont Violins. They even deliver bows and violins to try out way down south to Concord! They allow you plenty of time and space to try any new purchases under consideration, and are supportive and informative. I highly recommend this store for any string player. I have also had extensive repairs done on older violins and a bow, with excellent results.

It couldn't have been any easier. The staff at Vermont Violins was extremely helpful with the purchase of an electric violin. They went above and beyond to place our order and overnight the instrument to our home. The price, it was unmatched by any on-line retailer. Kathy and Oren were pleasant and extremely helpful. Will definitely do business with Vermont Violins in the future.

I have only been to the shop to make minor purchases...strings, music books, and today I made my largest purchas and bought a shoulder rest. Different folks...different times...all of them cordial and warm and oh so willing to answer questions and help me in any way they could. It's a very special place and I love my moments there... thank you

The staff have been consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and generous. Prices are very reasonable and it is clear that their priority is helping you do your musical best. For example, they're not afraid to be honest with you if the cheaper of two rosins is actually of better quality than the more expensive one. Very refreshing to find a store with these values in today's world. If you're an ex-high school-violinst like me and are looking to get back into it, give them a visit.

Went to the Montpelier store this morning with a violin I picked up. The guy there was extremely helpful, and gave me a list of people to call for lessons. He pointed out the repairs my violin needed (It has a few cracks, and the bow needs to be re-haired) He also told me that my violin looked like it was from the late 18th century, and that it was probably worth between 3-4 grand. Since I am brand new to the world of violin, I figured I could make some money off the violin, and buy something a little less valuable in the process that I could learn on. I called the Burlington store and explained what I was told, and they told me they would take a look. The man on the phone was very kind, and I had no reservations making the 50+ mile drive, despite the bad reviews I read on this page.
When I got there, the woman who I assume was the owner informed me she was not interested in the violin. This was fine. I own and operate and high end antique business, and a rejected sale is no big deal to me (It happens all the time) I also had absolutely no hard feelings toward the guy in Montpelier, who might have misinformed me, because he was very accommodating while I was on site.
What did upset me is that the owner would offer NO information about my violin, the possible value (even a ballpark figure), or even if it was worth fixing unless I paid $35. In all honesty, I was prepared to walk out of the store with a new violin if she told me mine was junk, but she wouldn’t give me a straight answer. She did tell me how much it would cost to fix, but without even knowing what I have, I would be hesitant to go that route blindly.
I have an appointment with Marc Gregoire, a Luither in Barre Vermont tomorrow. He has promised to tell me exactly what I have for free, fix it if it’s worth it, or sell me a new instrument if it’s not.
I am disappointed in Vermont Violin since I drove so far for nothing, but I can say the first two people I dealt with were decent. I wont give them 1 star, because 50% of my experience was decent, but I suggest they change their policy, and be just a little bit more customer service oriented.

I love this store - atmosphere, selection, people - everything. They are sort of like string music evangelists in the community, doing much to promote great music in many ways. At the shop one can learn about concerts, music camps, orchestra opportunities, etc. The people are so friendly and eager to answer my many questions, completely and patiently. Recently one of the luthiers let me watch while he was working on my bridge. He wasn't doing anything fancy, but I'm new to string playing and try to learn all I can. It was fascinating!

Had my bow rehaired. The price was fair and they did good work. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Pretty nice little shop to peruse if you play or are just interested in looking. The staff are usually helpful, but you can run into some pretentiousness depending on who's at the counter.
Nancy Hale
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and they have a great stock of fine instruments and accessories on hand.

I have rented the violins from Vermont Violin Shop for 4 years. First for my daughter, now for my son. I really love their service. They are very nice and thoughtful. They have best-in-class services. Last week, for some reason, the bow needed rehairing and my son had to stop the practice. I called them to ask what I should do because I knew nothing about violin. I was afraid that the expense would have been expensive since we live at Potsdam, NY, far away from them and I didn't know when my son could restart the practice again. When I told them what I was worried about, they decided to send me a good bow immediately and only charge me the shipping fee. When I received the good bow, I could use the package that they sent to me to send the damaged bow back. It is really convenient to me. I really appreciate it!

My friend bought an upright bass there and I was with him when he did. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.

They did an unbelievably amazing job of repairing my cello. It has never looked or sounded as beautiful.

They were very helpful. It was just so hot in the store. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
Smadar B
A cute little shop but prices are a tad on the higher side.
