Reviews of The Jewish Museum
Nicole Smith
On this repeat visit, I enjoyed two exibits specifically. Jonas Mekas: The Camera Was Always Running and The Hare with Amber Eyes.
The Hare with the Amber Eyes is about the Ephrussi family, and there is a memoir with the same title by Edmund de Waal that you can read to learn more, even if you can't make it to the museum!
This is a relatively small museum, which I love because I can at last wander past each exhibit in a relatively short visit. But the exhibits are always very well done and interesting with lots of information, so you can stay for hours if you want to.
They have a coat check and require backpacks and large bags to be checked.
On Saturday's there is free admission, just go through security and ask for a ticket at the front desk. But note - the gift shop is closed on Sunday.
There are stairs and elevators to take you between the various floors with their exhibits.

They could do a better job including more tangible pieces and not just art pieces that are not particularly relevant or pertinent to Jewish culture. The third floor is great with all the Judaica, I was sort of hoping the rest of the museum would be on par with the third floor, but it wasn't. If it wasn't for the pieces on the third floor, I would not rate it so highly.

It is very nice museum, I especially enjoyed the exhibition in the third floor. I really like the design of the exhibition and easy navigation. Also the museum store is very special.

Nice enough but kind of weird. Not much thematically about Judaism or Jewish history. Mostly just random pieces of art that were made by a Jew, made of a Jew, or sold by a Jewish dealer. The current exhibit about the US in the early 60s had only the most tenuous connection to Judaism. Some of the art was interesting but overall not what I expected. Dinning hall still closed.

We went on a day where admission was free and it was a great way to spend an hour or two. The art exhibits were interesting but small. Would recommend for a short trip on a day when you’re visiting Central Park.

First time going to this museum and it was a great experience! It's a nice 3 floors with different themes. 1st floor is photography, 2nd floor is the exhibit of Freuds daughter Louise Bourgeois, and the 3rd floor is dedicated to Jewish heritage which was very interesting to see and learn. Very nice museum and it's free on Saturdays. Staff is really welcoming and courteous as you come inside.

This place has beautiful art work I went with my daughter and her class they even did some activities.

This place is much smaller than expected and more of an art gallery than a museum. Well-done though, with interesting exhibitions.

Nothing Jewish about this place other than the founder said decades ago being Jewish.
It's a New York 1964-66 period exhibits museum. The art works felt pretty ordinary to me. None of them really appealed.
The good exhibits I liked are...
1. The old TV that plays content from that era is very nice -- shows (JFK interviews), ads (instant coffee etc.), news coverages (moon landing), cartoons (road runner), and more.
2. The video footage of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.
3. A news reel announcing John F Kennedy's assassination truly takes you back in time and relive the feeling.

It was a very interesting place to visit. The new exhibition about the art of the sixties is amazing!
You can learn a lot about the first artists in NYC who used quotidian and rows materials that change the people's point of view about art.
